(music) Good morning and welcome in to the Captain J. Hood Morning Show. On ESPN 1000, and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. We got Albert Breer coming away at 8.35, but first shot and no shot. Here's Shane Orling, Shane. Good morning boys on a Tuesday. How are we feeling? I like my Monday Night Football, a staggered double header, okay? I like the East Coast, West Coast, double header. I prefer that, Cap. We have double header again next week. We do. Do you remember when the double headers first? This is a Harry Tynewitz idea from years and years ago. We always thought the Monday Night Football should be a double header, out East and out West. This was staggered a little bit. I love it. You watch the Jaguars and just like, okay, that'll be all because the Bills were fantastic. But in Washington was the second game and Washington and the Bengals. I'd rather be the Bears at 1 and 2 trying to get better than be any 0 and 3 team. Because usually that is the end. That is awful. Like the Bengals. And the, what do you call it? The football. No, the Jaguars. They're a train wreck. Train wreck. And they got their quarterback locked up for 260 million. More on them in 20 minutes. Wow, I'm going to news tease. All right, what else do we have here on VBM? Here's Shane Orling, Shane. All right. Oh, that in 20 minutes. All the vibes were great at training camp for the Chicago Bears. So we had players telling us how good this team is. Guy like Cole Comette. He's never seen anything like this in his time in Chicago. He was excited and he knew how short his window was. Cole Comette yesterday sounded like a guy who is becoming more aware by the moment. How short his window is. He talked about the urgency this offense has to have. They need to start finishing drives, punching the ball in and scoring points. And he added, quote, that is not a game that we should have lost about the Colts. You can add this commentary to other players like Coleman Shelton, who ostensibly are taking shots at the offensive coordinator and the coaching staff for some of the decision making. Shot or no shot. This locker room is teetering on being lost. And no shot. I do not see how they lose the locker room. Now you tell me they lose to the Rams and the Panthers. I'll revisit the conversation. Lose the locker room. No. Too many good professionals in there. Coleman Shelton. No option on, you know, obviously wasn't the greatest look to run that. To be honest, I was blocking so I didn't see what happened outside. You know, sometimes it's hard to look back at one play and get to say that's the play that did it. But honestly, I couldn't tell you what really happened. We'll look at the film and we'll try to grow from it. You know, obviously when you hear a play, you focus on what your responsibility is for set play and you're not thinking of any other thing of, you know, you just go out there and try to do your job. So the play didn't work out and we'll get back to the drawing board and hopefully we have a better play next time than whatever it is. My question is if I told you that Olin Kruitz, Dermaty Dawson, the late Mike Webster, Creed Humphrey, like an elite Hall of Fame level center or one of the better ones on Jason Kelsey. If they were at center for us, does that front get identified better or did Coleman identify the front? But as Caleb said, play clock was running down, man. I just ran what they asked me to run and then Iberfus would not say to us. I asked him directly at your urging, do you allow Caleb to audible? We just have to execute better. And that what he said? He did. It's about execution. That's the whole buzzword up there. The answer is as a no shot as far as the fraying of the locker room. I don't think that that is the case. I would just say that moving forward, if he keeps going in this direction, it's natural for a locker room to start pointing fingers. Correct. It's just common sense that when things are not going the right way, people start wondering. There's already like quotables from the Cowboys after their loss on Sunday, like three or four key guys having big bold opinions and quotes about their loss last Sunday with the bears at one and two. I don't think that's the case. One thing about Iberfus and his locker room, they've been together through the thick and the thin, the three wins that do the seven wins. Correct. In this direction, especially with all this talent and all this hype and conversation around the team and they underachieve, there will be conversation. Well, if they end up not getting much better than this, and you look up and you're like, wow, six wins, five, whatever the number is, there will be a coaching change. No question. That's an automatic. Shay. All right, nobody so far, at least is placing the blame on Kayla Williams, at least not player wise. I've heard that an NFL executive is placing blame for Kayla Williams on the coaching staff. Speaking to Mike Sando of the athletic in an article yesterday about how the Packers and Vikings coaches have made the NFC North the best division in football and executive set of the bears. The offensive line is the biggest problem, but Shane Waldron is clearly the fourth play caller in the division and Matt Iberfus is clearly the fourth coach in the division shot or no shot. Matt Iberfus is already failing Kayla Williams shot. I mean, look at the play call and play designs inside the five yard line. I had laid it out to you at our last segment, what, 35 minutes ago? Yeah. Rochelle, pick up fourth and inches. All right. Get out. We're going wildcat. Wildcat. Speed option. You just heard the center say that wasn't the best play call. I mean, what are we doing it? Time out. Are we going for two or one? You got an assistant coach standing next to him. Go watch the tape because I did one one. There's eight minutes left you moron. You got to get it to a three point game. Yes. All right. Take a time out. We needed the time out. Yes. What a waste. That's a calamity on the sidelines. That's for sure. Terrible. Most of these play calls cap, we know what's happening to make sure it's very clear. Shane Waldron is the head coach of the offense. Correct. Now, there's a head coach of the team, of course, as that he reflues. But one thing that you reflues cannot do is hold Waldron's hand for every play call. He cannot. He cannot. He can just, he can see a tendency that's happening in the game. And as you told the story before, you know, if a head coach on his head said like wants that used to do, just kind of say, hey, man, we need to run the football here, he can be able to veto. Yeah. He could be. Yeah, he could do that. You can, you can say that's not what we're going to do. Correct. But here's the thing. Waldron is the head coach of the offense. Ebert Flus is standing the sidelines. He's watching us like we're watching what's happening in the game. All he can do is make corrections Monday through Saturday to make sure that the Tennessee we saw the week before doesn't happen this week. That's all he can do. You can do the adjustment thing at the halftime and say, hey, what the hell are we doing here? I mean, can't we run the football more? No, we have that in the game play. Let's do that. But as far as like game like play to play quarter to quarter, Ebert Flus is standing on the sidelines like everybody else watching. Is that fair? That's fair. I mean, I'm just telling you, like he can't, he can't call the plays and be the head coach too, because that's not what he does. But if he's the DC of nothing else, he did not have Waldron, Kerry, Joseph, Ryan, Griff, anybody that works on that offense, if he did not have them in his office yesterday at seven a.m., get your coffee and get in here. Okay. I'm tired of being embarrassed by what we're doing offensively enough with the speed options and the wildcat and this cute bowl. You know what that we're running. I want to hit people in the mouth and I want to run downhill and if we can't get four yards in four plays, I'll address that and we'll fix that problem. But I'm going to take the creativity somewhat out of your playback. You got it? Get out. Yes. And it should be that sense of urgency because Ebert Flus's job is on the line. It should be that way. It is. Waddle said yesterday and Tommy's listening right now, and he just texted us this. He said on his show with what, with Sylvie. Fourth best line, fourth best, uh, D line, fourth best running back, fourth best head coach, fourth best play caller. Those are all fourth best. And we're trying to overcome that by trying to get into the playoffs this year based on the talent that's been put on the, on the team. Correct. If I said to you, a Kevin O'Connell, we can have him a trade for Ebert Flus. Would you take him? Yes. Okay. If I told you Dan Campbell, you could have Dan Campbell. Of course. Okay. Straight up. Duh. Okay. Yes. And they would be the fourth best in all those categories as well with this offensive line. Here's Shane Norley. Wow. All right. I'm just saying, like we can fall in love with names, but again, it's about the infrastructure. That matters too. Hold on a second. I'll push. No, because I'm going to push back at you. You cannot tell me coaching doesn't matter. It does. If you brought the right people in here, it would look better because I'm looking around at different teams that have markedly better coaches. They're not taking time out to figure out that we run for a two point conversion or not. The coaching could be better, but as far as the players that's on the field, like we question this offensive line, we have, but what are we supposed to do when you get the ball back with a chance to win the game? And Caleb has no chance because for whatever reason, you've got Cole commit blocking his blind side one on one against Leiatu Latu. What are we supposed to do? It's never going to work. And if you're going to do it, at least have a running back in there to come up and ship or full support coaching and talent goes hand to hand. It does. But great coaching puts you in a position to win. That's your job as a coach. That's why I was always taught. It's our job to put them in a position to win. But players are the ones that make the plays coaches could diagram all they want. But we're being failed by our coaching staff. What's the point of making? Do we think Matt LaFluor would ever ask a tight end solo block, the best pass rush on an opposing team? You would not. Come on. No, not. Who would you rather have? Malik Willis or Caleb Williams? Caleb. Okay. Matt LaFluor took Malik Willis. People in the league were laughing. What are the Packers doing? Trading for Malik Willis? That guy's terrible. Really? Because last time looked, he filled in for Jordan Love and looked really good and won both games. One on the road. How about Malik Willis? What's the point behind this line? He dealt with a B on his head. He'd be killed. And that's the whole point of it. That's the whole point of the conversation. From my side of the desk, that's the point of the conversation. We can love all these coaches because they are coaches that can tighten the screws and be better coach. Of course, those are better coaches, Cap. Of course, they are. But those coaches having the coach Coleman Shelton and Nate Davis, they'll say, "Well, how come we can't get to where we need to be?" Because our quarterback is running all over the place where he's getting just drilled into the ground because the offensive line is not holding up their end of the market or because you have a rookie quarterback that can't get the ball out soon enough on occasion. So it's all encompassing of the conversation. Yes, we are fourth in all those things that Tommy talked about. And I think that yes, these coaches will be able to make those adjustments that even flusiness coaching staff isn't doing for the first three games. Yeah. And he said, "I didn't mean D-Line. I meant O-Line." Yeah. But that all said, Jon, if you look at our team and you look at Ebert Flus having two unsuccessful challenges a week ago, I can excuse the pick six challenge because it was late in game chain. But the other one, Ray Charles wouldn't have challenged that play. That's horrible. And that's on the coaches. The communication sucks. Are we going for two? No, coach. We're going for what? No, we're going for it. Take a time out. That's on the coaching staff. We don't look well coached. Put on the tape and watch some of these other teams. Dan Gwen's team looked really well coached last night. Yup. Really well coached. They're the joke. They're the commanders. Yeah. Well, they commanded our ass. Let me tell you that right now. Speaking of commanding ass, here's Shane Orland. You're not kidding because last night the Washington commanders got an all-time performance from a rookie QB who completed 91% of his passes for over 200 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing touchdown in a 38-33 statement win time time on the road over the Bengals. Sean or no shot, Caleb Williams woke up this morning wishing he were a commander. That's a no shot. That's a no shot because that's not what it's about. He's a Chicago bear. He's a number one pick in the draft. And so he wanted to be a Chicago bear. That's what he is. He's going to make something out of his tie with Chicago. The hope is, is that it'll be a Super Bowl at some point in his career. This whole thing is now we're regressing in conversation when we talk about this. Are we going to also talk about how his dad want to have a piece of the bears? Okay. We do talk about that. Can we talk about Caleb? Because he's from Washington DC. He pines to be in the District of Columbia. Let's not do that. Correct. Let's not regress in the conversation. Correct. We're trying to move past it. Yeah. I was kidding with you guys. Yeah, he wants to play behind that line and not get hit as many times as he is. He loves being a bear. People who I know who are tight with him since dude, he loves it here. He loves the vibe. He loves everything about this. He just wants to win, man. Shout out no shot with he'd rather have Cliff Kingsbury as an OC, possibly. Maybe. Yeah. They can go with that. I just say that Shane has not worked with a rookie before to this magnitude. He's got to figure it out. It doesn't mean that this is what it is, Cap. I'm saying that they got to work on it. Everyone's got to work on it to get better. If it doesn't look markedly different this week against a banged up Rams Club, then I'm going to question not just Shane. What in the hell is his boss doing? Right. If you don't can't get control of him and say, okay, I'm done being cute. I'm done being fancy. We're going to smash them in the mouth. We're going to hit the ball going downhill, make plays in the passing game. And I want the creativity side of things to quote you. Yeah. In the freakin garbage because right now through three weeks, you're the worst offensive coordinator in football. I would say it. That's for sure. The shaking hands of Shane Waldron. Get out. All right. But around the NFL, uh, don't be surprised if the addition of around the NFL, that's next to the NFL. It's time to go around the NFL right here on the Captain Jacob Morning Show on ESPN 1,000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app around the NFL with Shane Orling. It's Tuesday hoodie, so it's don't be surprised if they and I could say this was the most difficult addition left yet because we're living in NFL Bizarro land. I got an email this morning. One of my survivor pools ended yesterday, and then guy Peter ended survivor pool over in week three. They're trying to restart it for week four. Yeah, my brother and I got knocked out week one. We had the bangles to beat the freakin Patriots in Cincinnati. I just think that's amazing that it's like, yes, week four, let's start this thing again. That's how wild the NFL is and that is the wet dream of Roger Goodell to have the unpredictability of the NFL. And it has been through the first three weeks, that's usually believable. So what knocked everybody out? Was that Cincinnati losing last night? I saw Cincinnati at like 30% of circus survivor last night. So Cincinnati took out 40% of the circus survivor the first week. And now they took 30% of them last night. I mean, the first read on that is like, Cincinnati's always a slow starter, but my God, I want three. They're really slow start. Zack Taylor could get fired. He's a good coach. All right, Shay, don't be surprised if Justin Fields is the starter all year in Pittsburgh. He has yet to truly win them a game, but more importantly, he has yet to be the reason they lose a game. And until he is, I don't think Mike Tomlin will even risk upsetting the room by putting that whack job Russell Wilson in. Can I ask you something? Yes. Have you ever seen a player who is inactive? Be on the sideline in shoulder pads? I've seen from time to time, but not in his position. No. What is he? Every week he's on the sideline holding his helmet with shoulder pads on fully dressed. You're inactive. Yeah. Well, as far as I don't be surprised if we're Justin Fields, I hope that he plays every game and he stays healthy. I hope he does because the way the Steelers do things every time, every year, people want to knock out Mike Tomlin. This is the year. It's not going to make the playoffs is the year that man finds a way threatens players. He does. Scares him. He does. It's a scared straight program. That's what the Pittsburgh Steelers are. Three and all cap with Justin Fields and Justin, as pedestrian as he usually is, gives you a touchdown, makes them spectacular plays, splash plays here or there, but the defense gets the job done every year for the Steelers. 100%. They've only had three offensive touchdowns all season long, but you're right. He has not lost them a game and he's played well. Give him credit. It's very, it's steady. So what happens if Russell Wilson walks in today? All right. I'm good. I Justin Fields, the starter, I think. But what you think? What is Tomlin thing? How can you upset the room? How can you like, how can you make the change when you're three and all with a quarterback who hasn't made mistakes, who's not losing you games? Let me see. Hey, Russell, our doctor said that you're good. Yeah. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to go, man. Go Steelers. I'm ready to go. What's your strongest hand? Oh, yeah. It's my right hand. I'll put in those six weeks, listen back up. That's how that works. He's backing up Justin. You get the old hammer out and then that'll be all for Russell. Is this casino in the back room? Yes. Kyle Allen. Kyle Allen. Got it. So that's what that's what Tom will do. Another six, seven weeks. Smash his hand like casino. Do you think he's still doing lunges on the team plane? Bet that's annoying. Dude, you're inactive. Sit down. Yes. Eat the inflate meal. Stop. I think Justin feels it's like Derek Rose of the All-Star game just looks at Russell and just like, what are you doing? Everyone, the other guys are dancing. They'll brine all those guys and poo's over on the side just like, I don't dance, bro. I think that's how Justin looks at Russell Wilson. Like, you're doing lunges, bro. Good night. I've never seen anything like it. He's fully dressed on the sideline. He's inactive. If a meteor hits the stadium, stadium's on fire and Russell Wilson's the only player left who can get in the game. He can't get in the game. He's inactive. I know. Why is he dressed? He is the ultimate. Look at me. He's been that way for a long time. Is he dressed because he's been doing workout pregame workouts? He's going through all of it. The whole thing. He's throwing passes. Like a starter. Yeah. All of it. He's inactive. All of them are Russell Wilson. Wow. Don't be surprised if I'm moving up the timeline on somebody. Doug Peterson doesn't make it to Halloween. James and Phil just committed a massive amount of money to their quarterback. Hoodie, it's easier to fire the coach than it is to fire the player, especially when you're paying them what they're paying Trevor Lawrence, but they're sitting at 0 and 3 and he looks horrible. Okay. Tony Kahn and Sean Kahn are not firing Doug Peterson by Halloween. That's enough of that. They're the cons are not doing that. Stop. Thanks. Give it. Oh, thank you. Very well. I mean, you know, very quietly on Thanksgiving. Everyone's concerned about the other three games all of a sudden quietly. Peterson out. Um, no, that's not happening. Cap. Cap. I don't know. Halloween. They've lost eight of nine games. No shot. No shot. Eight of their last nine games are losses. I wish I could say it's on Lawrence. But Peterson is the, the offensive genius there. That thing is just not working. It is not. It is certainly somewhat on Lawrence. The turnovers are horrible. The overthrow yesterday that tomorrow Hamlin intercepted was horrible. He's not without blame, but you can't fire the player. You fire the coach. By the way, I got to go back to something you said. My buddy Phil just texted me, Russell is designated as the emergency quarterback. He can come into the game if there's an injury, so he has to be driving. He's inactive. Right. But he can come in. If the first two go down, the inactive guy can come into the game. There may be, it's not heard at all. And Tomlin's just keeping him on the injury report like, now you're hit. You're a lunatic. There you go. We're not going to play. That's a good point, Shay. That's legit. Doug Peterson. If he can come in as the emergency guy, maybe he's not heard as bad as we thought. I'm telling you, like on the injured report with insane. No, he's got a toe, he's got an arm, he's got a shoulder, he's out with insane listed out. Everyone hates him. Right. We like our guys with the injury report. Someone's got an ankle. Someone's got a knee. Right. And someone has got insane, right? I told you he transferred from NC State to Wisconsin, right? They had an event for all the varsity athletes, Boynton, male and female, right? And a player on another sport who I friends with said, dude, we had to go to this event, this guy just transferred in. It's August, they're in training camp. And he said, 20 of us are around goes, who's the new dude from the football team? What a D bag. He said, we met him for five minutes. The worst. Russell Wilson. Right. Yep. I'm surprised if the 49ers missed the playoffs. Okay. That'll be all. Oh my God. Listen, they do not possess the depth to overcome the level of injury bug that they are being bitten with right now. Kittle did not play Sunday. McCaffrey now on a plane to Germany to get his Achilles tendonitis looked at by some specialist. He couldn't find in America. Yes. It was a suggestion from Magliar Donias, I believe. Number that worked because there's medicine here that are there. That treatments that we don't allow the FDA hasn't allowed it here. Hey, here's hoping it works from McCaffrey because Debo Samuel also could miss multiple weeks and watch out. John Hargrave, who had a sack on Sunday, done for the year with a torn tricep. Oh God. But the injury nightmare in San Francisco might just be too much to overcome. But Brock Purdy will save the day. They play the Patriots coming up. What do you think? I thought it'd be a win. Where's that at? That's in San Francisco. Okay. That'll be a win. For the Patriots. If the Niner's lose to the Patriots, shut the lights off. They're done. Oh wow. Patriots Cardinals Seahawks are the next ones for the Patriots. Cardinals Seahawks. They'll go one and two. He's playing through a sore back right now, like everybody's hurt. What about Ricky Pearson? Got shot. Oh, sorry. That's right. With a shot, a bullet. This guy hears out because he's insane. He's got a leg. Pop. David. Russell. David. Russell Wilson. Out. Everyone hates him. Ricky Pearson, out. Gun shot wound. Siobhan Hargrave, torn tricep. Done for the year. Like I, this is crazy injury bug that they're getting bitten with. And they invest so heavily in their starting lineup, they just don't have the depth. He's sneaking one more. Yeah, I want to double down on something and the two of you can talk me out of it. Don't be surprised if the Giants make a comeback from their 0 and 2 start. They have found something with Malik Neighbors, who is, I believe, the first receiver in history to have 20 catches and 200 yards in the first three weeks as a rookie. They can run the football with Devin Singletary. They've gone over 100 yards in consecutive games. They're getting Dallas on a short week in MetLife this week. What can't Dallas do, hoodie? Stop, stop the run. Yeah. They can't do it. Devin Singletary's been good. The O line's been better and watch out because Daniel Jones for two weeks has actually looked good. Surprise. Surprise. All right, Kayla. I'm smoking. Sorry. That's ridiculous. Kat, did you hear what he said? I did. Giants back. Okay. We're in the Bizarro NFL where the Malik Willis Packers can dog walk the Titans on the road and the Vikings are beating the Niners. That's ridiculous. But here's the thing. You want to do that. You want to take care of the Cowboys and put a bullet in them? Okay. If the Giants beat the Cowboys, oh, my God, that's three in a row, but the Cowboys. We are giant schedule. Let's go through this real quick here. The john, the giant, as you would say, the Giants have hmm, what the Cowboys in a short week on Thursday. Home with Dallas at Seattle. Home with Cincinnati, home with the Eagles at Pittsburgh, home with Washington, home with Carolina and home with Tampa. That that's a pretty good run, man. They got a chance. Oh, I wanted you to talk me out of this. Oh, my God. Oh, the Bengals are dead. I think I'm going to bet it. Oh, my God. No, the Giants are dead. Okay. One win in their back. Think about it, Kat. One win. They're back. They're back. Okay. They're not back. Thank you, Francesa. I mean, they're not back, cap. I'm going to look it up at the break. Yeah. One win. What? They're one and two. They're trending up. We've got we're in a league hoodie where where teams that are getting six points or more as underdogs are like 10 and six straight up. I don't know what's going on. We are in the bizarro NFL. Anything can happen. I can't host this show in the Giants be good. Do you imagine if the Giants won the division? Oh, God. That's good say, but you know what? Shay is right. Why? You know why she's right? Because it is an upside down world in the NFL. It is. Who knows what's going to happen? But the one thing that's true, Kansas City is still alive. Still the team to beat. There. No matter what Buffalo is doing, I'll never bet against Kansas City again. Buffalo is good, man. The home state warriors and cleats, so they are, Cap. You just never know because of Patrick Holmes. It may not look pretty. It never looks pretty every year. They find a way in the playoffs, don't they? All right, we will hear from Albert Breer. That's coming up next on Cap and Jay Hood. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN 1000. Cap and Jay Hood are back on ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. Hello? Football on ESPN 1000. Hello, Bert. Albert Breer. Hey, Bert, senior NFL writer for SI.com joins Cap and Jay Hood. Bert's it? What? You're it, Bert. On ESPN 1000. What do you mean I'm it? We see, that's the game. I just tag you and you're it until you tag somebody else. Albert Breer. No, no, I'm not playing a game, I'm reading, and I'm not it. Okay. On Chicago's home for sports. What bird is it? Albert Breer joins us here on the Cap and Jay Hood show every Tuesday from Money Money Quarterback at SI.com and on Amazon Prime, and he joins us on the Hotline. CarX, starting out a hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Don't worry, call the carX name. Good morning, Albert. How are you? Good. How are you doing? Good. We already know that you've had your, you've got to get you off the air here. I know you've got to call with friends, Cecil, the breakdown, the giants and cowboys. Oh, I'm sure, no, no, you guys are my friend, but you know that we know that that's going to be good. But hey, you know what we, there's a lot of issues here with this bears team. Yeah, we're struggling, Albert, big time offensive line looks terrible and the offensive coordinator looks worse. Yeah, you know, it's, it's interesting because, you know, like I, I really felt like they were going to hit the ground running based on all the work they did and how they creatively got, you've got more time with Caleb, I would say in March and April and May and June to ramp him up and, you know, part of the reality of it is like the governing of the NFL, there's an adjustment and I think he's going through that adjustment and how he comes out of that adjustment will be, will be interesting. But I, you know, like that Colts game, like that's one where I think he should have probably played a little bit better, you know, when you're playing against the, the Titans and the opener, there are unscatted looks, it's a new coaching staff. I think everybody knows the Texans are a really good team, you know, notwithstanding what happened on Sunday. So this is the one like where you would hope that he'd turn the corner a little bit more than he did. I think some of that criticism's fair. The offensive line too, I mean, I, you know, Dan, like you sort of wonder if some of the bets they made on some of these guys are going to pay off, you know, so really, you know, it's going to be about like, you know, their ability to continue to develop those positions. Don't flash. Yeah, Albert. So can you kind of rewind the tape on Shane Waldron? I know this has to be the first time he's worked this long with a Ricky quarterback. And so we're just wondering just your thoughts on Waldron, if it's an adjustment for him to work with Caleb and trying to go through the process. Sure. I mean, there's like a little bit of a difference, I would say. You know, I, you know, what, where he was in Seattle and what he didn't see at all. I think it was pretty impressive being part of that group that, you know, really resurrected you know, Smith's career and it was like really no fault of his own that he wound up out there. It's just coaching change that, you know, wasn't about him, you know, it was just about the organization turning the page in the peak Carol era and then Mike McDonald wants to bring in his own people, which happens all the time. So like I think people in Seattle would tell you like he did a really good job, you know, the last couple of years with, you know, Smith and, you know, even a lot, even, even at the end with Russell Wilson and handling the transition. So, you know, like you said, like that's a little different, right? Like, so like you got a Russell Wilson who's who's 30s. You got, you know, Smith who's in his 30s and handling those guys and building an office for those, for those guys is a lot different than building an office for a rookie quarterback. You know, you are much more able to kind of run what you run when it is a guy who's been in the league for a while, you know, and, you know, obviously this is a little bit different, you know, with, with the rookie coming in and the guy who's coming in from an air raid offense. So, you know, I think that they've, they've, they've spent a lot of time figuring that out. And yeah, I wouldn't, I wouldn't turn the page on anything that bears are doing yet. It's only the three weeks. It's only been three weeks, but two weeks ago you had two unsuccessful coaches challenges. One of them Ray Charles wouldn't have challenged. I mean, it was, it was ridiculous. It was absolutely ridiculous to watch that. And then this week, you're down 11. There's eight minutes to go in the game approximately, and you get a touchdown and one assisted coach is putting up one finger. Eber Flus is putting up two fingers. They got to take a time out which they needed at the end of the game. And he said to us yesterday here on the show, he was with us. Yeah, that's directly on the coaches. Our communication has to be better. At some point Albert, this is going to fall back on him. Isn't it? Yeah, it is. I mean, I, I look like here's the deal, right? Like, and I think we know the sport here, and I think, I think, you know, Flus knows the score. I think everybody in the building knows the score. They've got the prize possession of a first overall pick the quarterback. They've got a new team president, you know, like the guys who've been there have been there for, you know, I've been there for three years now. So, you know, like now this is their show, and how this looks is reflective of them, and where they have the program going. And you know, I think everything when you draft a quarterback first overall, it seemed to the lens of that, of that quarterback's development. So yeah, I mean, that's part of the deal, you know, and, you know, I don't think, I don't think Flus or anybody else would run from that. And I'm not saying the McCaskys are making a decision now at the end of September, but, you know, like, you know, I think, you know, just the juncture they're at in the team building process, you know, and, and, and then I think the question on everybody to get it right with the young quarterback, like, you know, over the course of the year, what you want to see if you're the owner or the team president is, you know, a program that's buttoned up and three years in looks like it's got everybody moving in the right direction, and it's like, you know, first and foremost, creating the right environment for your young quarterback. So it's on those, on those guys to create that and I think they will tell you the exact same thing. Albert, the Bears will be playing the Rams coming up, both teams coming in one and two. What stands out most about the Rams as of late? I would say, I mean, I would say the, the, the guts that they showed against the Niners, right? It didn't go the way they wanted the first two weeks. There's no question about that, but I mean, when you start to, like, dig through what they were missing on Sunday, I think it was a credit to the Niners, too, for, for playing his short-handed as they did. And I think we saw some stuff on Brock Purdy that we hadn't seen before, just as far as the ability to carry a team in a, in a, in a, in a critical, critical game. But I thought Sunday for the Rams was a real program when they were without three starting offensive linemen, right? John Opum was out, Steve Ovila was out, Jonah Jackson was out. They were without Cooper Cup. They were without Puke Nokua. They were relying on guys, you know, like two, two, two out well, you know, and they were relying on guys like Kyron Williams, who's the fifth round pick, who's now in his third year, to play bigger roles. And those guys stepped up and played bigger roles. Matthew Stafford answered the bell. And then their defensive line, you know, like with all of these young guys, he was able to get the upper hand in the Niners, you know, that's Byron Young and Brady Fisk and, you know, and Kobe Turner and, uh, and, and, and, and Jared verse, you know, and like so, you know, he's just, and like the first three weeks have been not great for them. You know, like I don't think the expectation was they were going to lose the Cardinals and take it on the chin the way they did in the Cardinals the week before, but to come back off of that with all the injuries that they had. You know, I think this shows it's going to be a team that's going to hang in there and be there at the end. That's what I took from it. And like the look, the bears are going to be facing the same sort of short-handed group this week. You know, so can the bears take advantage of it? It's going to say, all right, we have more with Albert. We got to talk about some of the other things going on the league and he's as tapped in as anybody more with Albert Breyer here on Kappa J. Love the brother next to you. All right, more with the great Albert Breyer, SI.com, Monday morning quarterback, Amazon Thursday night football. So let's talk about what's going on with the Cowboys. Because all of a sudden you start thinking, wow, you lose to the Giants this week is Mike McCarthy in trouble. Zach Taylor, another good coach, is 0 and 3. So what, is there anybody in any danger here early in the season? Zach Taylor, I'd say no. I mean, all you have to do is look at the Bengals history, the history of the Brown family, how patient they've been. You know, they knew they had a good thing with Marvin Lewis, even when things got tough, they stuck with them. I think, I want to say Marvin was there for what was it, 16 years, something like that, right? Yep. So we've seen them stick by guys in the past and the guy who brought them to the Super Bowl three years ago did more than Marvin Lewis ever did, right? Like so I can't imagine that Zach Taylor's in any sort of trouble there. They're going through a little transition in the coaching staff with Brian Callahan gone now. And, you know, I think the defense has to pick it up, but Burrow played well, I think the last two weeks. I think Chase has found his stride. I think they'll be okay. McCarthy's situation is a little different because he is in a contract year. And you know, I think you see some leaks now on the defense side of the ball, which Mike Zimmer was, you know, was his hire coming in and so, you know, what does it all look like in a month? You know, their team is sort of leveraged to win right now. And you know, they have obviously back under contract now, they've got TD Lamb under contract now. God knows what Michael Parsons is going to cost to resign, but they've waited the extra year with him, which means he's not going to come cheap next offseason. I mean, you may be looking at $40 million per year, you know, and Jerry isn't getting any younger. And there's a certain legendary coach that has six rings that sit in there on the sideline who has a personal relationship with the Jones family. So, you know, like I think it's just natural, like the, you know, Mike McCarthy in a contract year and it being the Cowboys, those narratives are going to ramp up if they continue to struggle. And, you know, certainly I think that McCarthy's got a win to keep his job. Albert, I'm happy for Dan Quinn to get another opportunity to be a head coach. Thank you. The only head coach in the league that still has his hat turned backwards like a coordinator and coaches, which I think is kind of cool and different. So what, what stands out for you for the Washington commanders, a two and one start and they look really good against the bingles yesterday, offensively. Yeah, I'm, I actually like that too. Like, I was wondering if DQ is sick to his guns there because he, the backward hat thing kind of started when, you know, he jumped in the Cowboys staff and sure enough, he's not, he's not backing down, but I think you can see like the buy in, you know, I, I think like it's like one of those things, it's like hard to quantify, but watch football for long enough. You guys can see it, right? Like when a team's playing with real energy, you know, and a team is like playing fast and believing in what they're being taught. And I think that that's been apparent through three weeks with Dan Quinn and his team. And I, what I really like is like how weak of a league, they seem to be getting better, right? Like so, for example, last week they played pretty well offensively against the Giants, they just couldn't punch it in the end zone. Was that a problem yesterday? No, no, right. Like so, like you're seeing little things like where they're just getting better. And that's a team that still has some like pretty serious roster holes. Like they need to get better off into tackle, no question. They're Ed Drushers after having traded Montez Sweatt and Chase Young out of there, aren't very good. The corner position is still a big question mark. And those are premium positions and they've been able to coach around that stuff effectively. And God does Jaden Daniels look like a star too. I don't want to pour salt in the wound there and she's got to go like the way the first couple of weeks have gone. But you know, the one more that I thought of when I saw Jaden in the summer, they're training camp was smooth, right? Like everything was natural and smooth. And I think one thing you have to remember when you're talking about somebody like him versus, you know, Kale or Drake May when he plays is that Jaden was in college for five years. You know, so he has just the volume of things he's seen, that's not playing NFL football, but you know, he was a starting quarterback at two major programs and two different major conferences. And I think it really shows with how comfortable he looks out there. You know, he's just seen a lot of stuff and saw a lot of stuff in college. And so it's just about the prettiest people I've seen of anyone coming into the league for a while and really can run too. So I think you give them credit for building an office that works for Jaden. Jaden looks super comfortable, and they've been able to coach around some pretty significant holes of their roster. I got a couple of things for you, but the first and foremost is the Green Bay Packers have Malik Willis winning football games, which shows you how good a coach Matt Leflure is. What's the viability of getting Jordan Loveback this week because he is their guy? I think it's on the table like I like look like last, you know, even like the week before this one, he was, they kept him alive the whole week, like he wants to play, right? And then last week, I think he got closer, obviously had some more time and practice. Um, yeah, I think he's going to try like hell to play this week, guys. And I am so impressed with what they did the last two weeks, I mean, four hundred and forty nine yards rushing. Like if you're either the teams that played them, right? But if you're the cola class with the Titans this week, what's the one thing you're trying to do when you know Malik Willis can be the quarterback and Jordan Love probably won't be, right? What's the one thing you're going to try to stop is the run, right? And somehow they're still able to churn out four hundred and forty nine yards rushing in the two weeks. It's just mind blowing. And, um, you know, I don't think Matt Leflure has gotten the card he deserves. I don't think he's got the X's and those down, he knows how to push the right buttons of this team. I mean, the people skills, he exhibited and managing the Rogers thing. When Rogers really clash at the front office, I thought was super impressive. Um, over the, you know, three, uh, four years, the four years that he and Rogers were together. Um, I'm just impressed all the way around Leflure and, um, and they should, and look at it. They should be better, um, coming out of, you know, what they've done in the last couple of, uh, out of coming out of what they've done in the last couple of weeks where we've had to learn to play without Jordan Love. I think oftentimes when you have to play left, you develop sort of a new muscle, um, that can serve you when you get somebody so important like Jordan Love back. Hey, man. Have a good rest of your week. We'll be watching you Thursday. Talk to you next week. I don't want to thank you guys. Have a good one. See you. There he is.
