9/24 7 AM: Jesse Rogers

The guys discuss a potentially history making moment tonight on the South Side of Chicago. Would go to see the White Sox 121st loss? [crunching] Chicago. This is your morning routine. Listen to respect my name. Cap and G hood. That's right. That's right. We're bad. Uh-uh. Watch the show on Twitch. Follow ESPN 1000 Chicago. Stream the show on the ESPN Chicago app. And on in-bank. 100.3 HD2. And on ESPN 1000 Chicago. Now, no, no, no. David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood. Good morning, everyone. Come on! Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Bring 'em out. Whoa. Whoa. Oh. God. Welcome in to the Cap and G hood morning show. On ESPN 1000 and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you, we've got Jay. We've got Jay Moore. We've got you for a three hour ride here on this Tuesday morning. We'll open phone lines for you. 3-1-2-3-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-3-2-3-7-7-6-X-R-Phone number. A lot to get to within the framework of our three hours together, Cap. But first and foremost, there's a lot of traffic around the Dan Ryan. I don't know if you noticed this or not. A lot of traffic already around the Dan Ryan because people cannot wait for 640 tonight because the Chicago White Sox will take on the Los Angeles Angels. Not just because it's just a game in the late September. It's because this could be a record breaker for the team that means the most to me at Chicago. The Chicago White Sox limping in at 36 and 120. Cap. Cap. This could be it tonight. It was that tonight, you know, sometime in the series. But the point is, though, is that this could be the worst team ever in major league baseball history. In the modern era, correct? I think there was a Cleveland spiders team in the 1800s. Other than that, have at it, hoodie. So I've got buddies that have been texting me. Dude, you want to go to the Sox game tonight? Uh, nope. I got a football show I got a host. Yes. Uh, dude, it's going to be history. You could say you were there. The night it happened. I'll pass. Oh, God. Yeah. Shay's going, I think. Shay, you going? Undecided. I had a prior engagement. It's since been moved up to the middle of the day. So now I'm kind of like, you know what? I might go down there and see history tonight. I've had two separate friends independently text me and ask, are you going to the White Sox game to see history tomorrow? Now I think I have to. Jaymore, are you going, kid? Jaymore, you should go to the White Sox game tonight to see history. Uh, I'm going Thursday. Yes. Like all of us, right? Yes, it's not today. He's not going to go tonight, but he's going to go. Yeah. And understandably so. You see, when you're a White Sox fan, and you are, um, irrelevant to many in Chicago, especially based on this 36 and 120 record gap. When you have something like this, if I'm Jerry Ryan's door, thank you, Jerry, for lowering the ticket prices, lowering the concessions. Thank you very much for that. But I think that everyone that comes to the ballpark today should have the hard ticket like it used to be back in the day. Right. Never mind about the scanning on the phone. Yeah, you can't do anything with that. Give me the hard ticket because I want to put this in the scrapbook and put it right there to show the ineptitude of this ball club. How about framing it? Put it right on the wall? Absolutely. Right there. Because I just want to be able to show because it's a great icebreaker parties. It is. You just bring it put there on the wall and you just say, hey, you know what? I was there to see the crappiest White Sox team in the history of the sport. How about that? Johnny, we're having people over this weekend. We are? Yeah, family's coming. I've invited. So we'll have about 30 people at the house. Make sure you get that ticket stub framed and put up on the wall. I want it to be a conversation piece when people show up at the house. It's exactly right. I would love to have that. I can't put my phone on a case or put it in a frame. There you go. There's a ticket stub right there. There he is right there. Why is Johnny's phone framed? Because of an MLB ballpark app. Do you understand what Nightmare this is for me? Do you understand that? Do you understand how bad this is for Dr. Brew? Yeah, my brother. And on all of White Sox fans that you know, this ain't funny. Stop laughing at it. This is it. Thanks, Kenny. This is it, man. I mean, who do you got? You got it. There's humor in it. Come on. You got a laugh. There's humor in it. Oh, really? That's because you guys don't feel like I feel. You think it's funny. It actually is. It's not funny. It's so pathetic. It's funny. No, no, no. If you ever go into a funeral and because of your overcome with grief, you laugh. Some people laugh. But it doesn't mean they're finding it funny. There's a guy. There's never been to a funeral in a Baptist church. No, it's not funny. Actually, have I had to speak at once? Yeah. When you're cracking up? No, because I thought I'd get that. I'd get that. Exactly. Yes, yes. The late Mac Irvin. I had to speak at his funeral. Yeah, so no, it's not funny. 36, thank you very much. That's perfect. Right there, James Ward. Let's just sermonize this 36 and 120 ball club. 53 and a half games behind. Say that record again. No, never mind. It's sad, folks. I just want you to understand. Tonight, we can see history. Tonight, folks, we can see the very worst baseball team in Chicago sports history. Let alone Major League Baseball history. Damn. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a ball club that has Andrew Benantendi. Ah, that big salary of Benantendi. There's a difference maker. Good job, Jerry. You've got a mass unit for a ball club. Mankada. Somehow crept back onto the roster here in late September. Ah, guys like a loy Jimenez. We will never forget a loy. Ah, injured every other game. Not making a difference. Meanwhile, Dylan Cease and Chris Sale and others are thriving in other places. But Chicago, on the south side, we come one come all to see the very worst in Major League Baseball. The drizzling, you know what's the Chicago White Sox. Folks, this is sad. It's sad that people that bring their families to the ballpark, they just want to see a good product. You know what's great cap on the positive side of this? Great food. Ah, great amenities. Where do you kiss the fundamentals? That's always great. The beer's cold. And there's always BS you can have with your friends. Go back and forth. Tell some stories cap. But then you actually have to watch the game. And that's the problem cap. Tailgate's great. Food's great. Beer's great. But then there's the first pitch. And that'll be all from there. So we just ask you right now, put your hands on the radio for a prayer for the Chicago White Sox. Put your hand on the radio. They can get this thing over with. Congratulations, Jerry. You're in your TWA plane that you have the players on. Congratulations, Jerry. You're a substandard product that you put on the field. You want for David Eckstein to be all over the diamond for the Chicago White Sox. Congratulations. You want to be relevant in the newspapers measuring the column inches over the years. How come you're in the White Sox? You're on page three. How come we're not in the back page? You're going to get the back page now, pal. You've always want the attention to the cubs over there. You get the attention to the column inches. You'll get it now, pal. You are an embarrassment. You. You're the face of the White Sox. So congratulations. You got egg all over your face. For Kokta. Wow, he's even dropping hit it. You and your for Kokta ball club. Congratulations. Oh, I love you. You're the greatest. Enjoy. Enjoy, folks. Sox fans are getting their kid ready for school, getting going to the plant, going to the job, shaking their head this morning at the windshield saying this is just the worst. And it is the worst. A White Sox team is always saying, what about me? The Marcia Marcia of Chicago Sports. What about me? It's always about Jan Marcia Marcia. Okay. You want attention? There he is, pal. There's your attention right there. Enjoy. Yep. Right there on a platter. Play to piss right there every night. That's it. Oh, my God. Cannon on the mound tonight for the Chicago White Sox. We'll see what happens. Here's Shay Norley. I had to verify this. They are on the front page of the New York Times. I've always wanted them. This is what I've always wanted. Right below election coverage and horrible things happening in the Middle East. We have one more moment of misery. The Chicago White Sox on the front page of the New York Times. So I bet a buddy of mine, every year, we bet $5 a game Cubs versus Sox. He's a Sox fan. So over the years, you know, it's been both teams stink. We won 72. We won 70. Okay. Here's your 10 bucks. He canceled the bet this year on opening day. Hey, by the way, our team's horrible. We don't have enough pitching bets off. I'm like, oh, coward. We're not that good. He said, you'll finish 30 ahead of us. He was wrong. It's going to be about 50. 50. That's right. And your team's not good. I bet it had $250. He's a smart man. We called it at the time, Cap. They didn't know who was going to be the opening day starter. It was toward the last week of spring training. Remember, they walked up to Gary Crochet. They said yours is a false. You're starting opening day. I am. Me. What was your reaction? I was shocked. Me. Yeah, we got nobody else. We can't even fill out a rotation here. You take the ball. Go ahead. What? Didn't even know who's going to be the opening. And that's one of the things that excites us about baseball, Cap. Ah, opening day. We know we got our race going. Here we go. There was no, here we go. I mean, thank God, Crochet's been really good. But that wasn't in the plan. But then you looked at the roster and you go, this team's going to lose 100 games. No shot, Cap. No. You were right. They're not going to lose 100 games. They're going to lose over 120. Remember, Jim Bowden was on with us a few months ago. He said, I looked at that team in spring training and said, minimum they lose is 110. 110. So all the media that's here at Chicago, give yourself a nice meal, enjoy the city, and sit down and watch what I've watched every night. Horrible baseball on the south side. By the way, I went back did a little research. Do you know what the line was if you'd have bet them at the all-star break? Plus 1200 if you would have bet under 42.5 wins. That was easy cash. What did we do? How did we not bet that? I thought they would turn it. Wow. That gets a 43. They have to. Man, there you have it. What do they have? They got six left. The most they can win is 42, I believe. So there's your cash. Yeah, you won the bet. You already won the bet. You already won the bet. Yeah. 12 to 1. How do we not throw a couple hundred dollars on it and go, hey, I paid for a week in Mexico. Here we go. I just don't know as a show. Well, we'll have next year. Don't worry. We'll do it next year. I was reading something. If you bet against them every single night, you'd be up over three grand on the season. And I'm like, why was I not doing this? All year I knew they were horrible. Well, during their streaks, we should have been able to bet against them every night. To his credit, the poly from Palm Beach, he's a book. Remember, he called us in April and said, bet a hundred dollars against the White Sox. Lay the money line to win a hundred every game. And you will have a nice vacation at the end of the season. How did we not do that? No, I'm kicking myself about it. I'm like, why wasn't I just doing this? Guys, don't worry about it. We go through this next year. You can do it next year. Yeah, but the market will have adjusted a little. They over-under's not going to be sixty-three and sixty-four and a half. Can't? I mean, we... 59. Captain GM of the team went on the broadcast and said we're not going to spend in free agency. We need these players. And he said, I don't like our team. What's the wind total going to be next year? 55 and a half? I don't like our team. Be under that. Because it's like anything else, Cap. Before you put the bet down, you look at the roster and the talent. And you say, is that a 59 or 60-win ball club? And the answer this upcoming season will be no. That's not getting better. I've told you this. They're going to continue to get their ass kicked every single year. For a while now. That ain't getting turned. You can have, like, guys in the minor league system that comes up and gives you, you know, good pitching. You know, someone like that, you know, someone a third baseman. It's short. Cap. But what about the rest of them? Wow. I mean, seriously, you can't win like that. What about mine? Cotta. Got him back. Oh, wait. He'll be a free agent. Damn. We can bring him back for a song. Really? When the GM is quit already. The GM is quit already. Yeah, we're not going to do anything in free agency. Don't worry about season tickets, pal. We're not going to get any better. Stay home. What? This is like Major League 4. Look at how joke is this. Major League 4. Back to the minor league. Seriously. This is a joke. So there you have it, folks. The question we would ask you is, are you going tonight? You want to go see the White Sox? Make history? We both have friends. Jay, Jay, but we all got friends that are buying tickets because they want to see history. Yeah. So I get started $4, by the way. Oh, God. Hey, it's just a fact. That is a fact. You can buy a ticket to the game for four bucks. Do you guys charge for soda in the locker room to the players? Do they have to use money in the machine? Let me check the athletic.com. I'll get back to you. Wait. Jesse's article is dropping this week with Buster. Maybe that's in there. It goes deeper. Yeah. Well, maybe we'll see. And by the way, if it is a pot machine, it's old school seven up. Ne-high. Barks. Yeah. Ne-high. Going out of the Costco, see what they got for the off brand soda for the guys. What is this? Hmm. That's strange. Burners. Hmm. Can's a little dusty. Santa. It says expired 1991, but they've got a special on the grape and orange. Santa. Hmm. Wipe off the top of it. A little dusty when it comes to the thither machine. Because it's old. Jose De Leon had it once upon a time. It's just cola. It just says cola on it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Remember those blue cans? It's just a cola. White Sox baseball brought to you by cola. How about that, DJ? On the ESPN 1000. Hard rock casino. White Sox network. We are back, baby. We are back. We are back. On Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. I don't like our team. I don't like our team. I don't like our team. I don't like our team. Captain Jay Hood on ESPN 1000. And streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Here's hoping that you're going to have a great Tuesday. We'll hear from Jesse Rogers coming up at 750. Shadow no shot coming away at eight o'clock right here on Captain Jay Hood at 312-332-ESP and as our phone number. Are you going to the White Sox game tonight? The Sox take on the Angels. And this could be the record breaker for a futility cap. It's already tied with the expansion Mets. So there's an opportunity for the Sox now to be able to just knock it down that record of being the worst team in the modern era. Snorling, is anybody still alive from the 62 Mets? I will do the research and let you know. I know Mercury Morris passed this weekend. Why do you think they're going to pop champagne like the dolphins? That's what I'm wondering. Like, will there be a group of 62 Mets as old as they might be? But it's like that guy was, I don't know, 22-23. He could be alive somebody. I know Casey Stango and Gil Hodges aren't, but yeah. Maybe they get together, smoke cigars and go, our long running nightmare is over. We're out. Jeez. And that was understandable at the time. Your expansion team, you just slapped together nonsense. You're just starting. Sox been in business for a long time. Long time. Do you realize that I know you do, but people out there. The 19, ever see me, the 20-21 White Sox? The 21 White Sox? 193 games. 93 games. What about now, Cap? They might get the 42 if they win out. I don't want to make predictions, but in this division, it's a core of talent that we have. I would hope that I expect that the next year will be a lot better than this year. But how much better? I don't know, but look at the core of this team. And if we can get them all on the field. And one of the things that we're doing this year, it's a little different. Every year we send players home with a plan. This is what you've got to do. What we're going to add this year is we're going to police these plans. We're going to make sure that the players are following their plans. So when they come to spring training, they're ready. We're not going to take their word that they're doing what they're supposed to be doing. So given the division and given that we have a really good core of players, I would expect next year will be better. Oh, God. It's not, Jerry. You're an embarrassment. He is the six championships in eight years of the Bulls, the one championship. Thank God. I wish my dad was here to see the White Sox win the World Series in 2005. Thank God. We got those championships, but you still run baseball like it's 1979. And this is what you get. You're just desserts. Is that how you want to go out? Is that what you want to go out with? I mean, after all the success that you've had, you want to go out like that, Jerry? That's a sad way to go out. Your organization's filled with cobwebs. Dusty. It's horrendous. Right here in the home of the White Sox, ESPN 1000. 312332 ESPN is our phone number. Ari is in Norwood Park on Captain Jay Hood. Ari, good morning. Good morning, gentlemen. How are you? How are you doing? It's going on. Well, my son and I are Cubs fans. And when he was 10 years old, we were lucky enough to go to game five of the World Series and see them win. And so when he came to me yesterday, now at 18 and said we've got to go to this game because we could see the height of all of baseball and the lowest of all baseball. It was the best of time. It was the worst of the times. It was, you know, the tale of two cities. So we're going just wanted to share that your show. That is awesome. Have fun with your son. Take pictures. And again, it may not be for the best reason for the Sox, but it's cool that you and your son will have experienced a Cubs World Series. And this. Thanks guys. Have a good day. Appreciate you. Thank you. That's super cool. Now to the Bears. And we'll get more of the baseball with Jesse Rogers 750. You know one thing, Cap, that I'm never concerned with. I'm never concerned if you are back in the day when you were dating. And you had someone that you really liked. And you say, you know what? She's the best man. Great conversation. Looks great. We seem to have a real bond. You weren't concerned about what it was perceived to be a nine or ten that just came into the bar or the club that you were in. Correct. Because you're with who you're going to be with. Correct. The idea that people look at sports and say, oh, we love our guy. But then here comes this 10 coming through the bar. You're like, man, I know who I'm with. It's great. But my God, this one here is a smoke show. Right? That's how some Bears fans felt yesterday watching my night football. Watching Jayden Daniels, the quarterback for the commanders. It's one thing to say, we got the number one pick. We're going in the right direction. But if you look at social media, it was just like, it was just completely smoldering with love for the Washington commanders. As if that's something we talk about every day. Correct. Daniels played well. And the commanders are now two in one. The Bears are one and two. But the conversation, it's on our Twitch and YouTube right now. Jayden Daniels, why can't the Bears have Jayden Daniels? Why can't the Bears, you know why? Because you dance with who you brought, right? You dance with Caleb Williams. The idea that Jayden Daniels behind this offensive line, what do you think that would look like Cap? Daniels with this Bears offensive line. He'd be a boob with a Bears cap on. Jayden Daniels. Correct. He'd be a boob with a Bears cap on, Jayden Daniels. Here's another boob with a Bears cap on. The idea, you know why Jayden Daniels looked good? He had time. He was slinging that ball yesterday. I watched it just like you did. He did a really good job, Cap. But again, we talk all the time about infrastructure. You can love Jayden Daniels for what he did and include Kingsbury as the offensive coordinator for Washington. But the idea that, well, I know I love Caleb, but this one here is so much hotter. So I'm going to kick Caleb to the curb. It's nonsense. Are you a Bears fan? Or are you a Jayden Daniels fan? It's a fair, fair question that you bring up the idiocy. You know, if you told me that, oh God. Caleb Williams threw for 76 yards and four interceptions and we got blown out. He threw for 363 yards, 363. Well, did you see what Justin did there three of them? They've scored three offensive touchdowns all season. The Steelers. Their defense is given up eight points a game. Justin had a good day the other day. He did fair 245 yards. Couples, they've scored three offensive touchdowns. One rushing and he threw two passes. That's the other football right there. That's it. So it's not as though Tom Brady landed out there in Pittsburgh. Maybe it's coming. We'll see. We don't know. Jayden Daniels was excellent last night. That throwed a cinch the game as he got drilled and he laid it right in the hands of Terry McLaurin on a deep ball down a right sideline into the end zone. Sensational throw. I'll stick with our guy. Maybe we're going to have these two guys battle their whole career. That would be super cool for two franchises that have been tortured. Chicago and Washington. But stop with the panting at the bar when you're sitting there with your girl going. Did you see that one? Jaymore, you've seen this before. You go into what you think is a dime piece, right? You go in like, yeah, I'll bring my ace to this party. And all of a sudden, there's other women that come into the party and you're just like, now you want to kick the one that you came to the party with to the curb just because someone else is better. It looks better in your eyes. You've seen this before. All the time. But that's not how that works as a Bears fan. Nah. I'm a Bears fan first. I mean, Caleb Williams and his offensive line and the coaching staff have a lot to work on if they want to win this game on Sunday against the Rams. But I love the idea, Captain. Everyone looks through the not hold offense at something else rather than what's in their own backyard. I love that. I can and here's the thing about Justin Fields for our new listeners and viewers. I'm rooting for Justin Fields. I'm rooting for him. He's a good guy. Yes. I'm rooting for Justin Fields. Hoodie, you and I ran him out of town. We had that kind of power. Yeah. Well, let me tell you something. If that is your take out there and many of you on social media, all these lunatics coming at me, then why didn't I go get myself a left tackle? Because I wanted one. Well, here's what I would tell you. Because the one thing I will take away, and I'm not going to cop whether Jayden Daniels have a better career than Caleb Williams yet. But what did Washington do in free agency? They signed a high profile center in Tyler Biotis and they signed a left tackle. Yep. And last night, Jayden Daniels was never pressured. Ever. Always had time. Ever. So, like, we talk a lot about rookie quarterback. There's going to be growing pains. Did he not accept at all? He got sacked a couple of times. And Trey Hendrickson got him. The pressure at the very end of the game, Trey Hendrickson got his first sack. But the pressure rate was nothing. And when he wasn't blitzed, 15 of his 23 pass attempts he wasn't blitzed on. He was pressured four times. He was 15 and 15 for over 200 yards. When not blitzed. So, you look at that and go, why didn't we get a center? Why isn't Tyler Biotis a bear? Well, again, fair. Like, there's talent spread across the league, Shay. There's talent everywhere. But what it comes down to is, from Ryan Polestan point, which talent are you going to get? What is best for the Chicago Bears? And right now, the offensive line is a big story once again. It's actually too often around here about the offensive line and not giving the quarterback time. Why is Justin a Pittsburgh Steelers? That's one of the reasons why is because he did not have time in front of the offensive line in front of them. What I'm saying is this, is that my hope is, is that moving forward, that the offensive line gets better, that Caleb Williams can connect to receivers, not overshoot them by 15 yards. What I'm looking forward to is just symmetry. And it's a surprise to people in Los Angeles who I talked to yesterday, Cap, that covered him at USC. They say, my God, what's happening over there? Like, this guy used to roll out of the pocket and go down the field. He used to be, I said, he's a rookie learning the NFL way. Some of this stuff is not transferrable right away. You go from college to pro. Are you supposed to be the same guy you were in college? He was a better junior than he was a senior. Caleb Williams. I was talking with my brother last night about this, about something Eberflu said to us yesterday. When I asked him a direct question at your urging, because I asked it last year, and he said, Oh, absolutely Justin can audible. He has that ability here. We allow that. Do you allow Caleb Williams to audible out of a play if he sees the front isn't going to work? And remember what he said? We just have to have better execution. He would not commit that he would allow him to change the play. So Caleb yesterday spoke and said, or Sunday spoke and said, here's what happened on that play. We broke the huddle. There was under 10 seconds left. That couldn't make a change because the play clock was running down. Then why didn't you take a time out? You looked at the front. It was not the front you guys thought you were going to get because of what they ran in a previous game when they were victimized by that play. They have digital recording too in Indianapolis. I don't know if people up there are aware of that. Yes. But when you watch tape at Lake Forest and you go, wow, we got to put this play in. You see what it did to them? They saw the same thing too, in case they saw that we got to fix this. And that's exactly what they did. And then our offensive line, have you seen the photo where we got four guys laying on the ground? Yeah. And I heard, I think it was Watto yesterday. It was Sylvie said it would not have mattered if Barry Sanders, the most elusive runner of all time, was in the backfield. Barry Sanders, DeAndre Swift, or you, it wouldn't have mattered. Caleb's about to get crushed. He tosses the ball to Swift. Oh God. There's a state of Indiana coming. -12. -12 yard loss. I just would like to know why on first down it drives me insane. I went back and watched again. I posted the play on third down, but I went back and watched again. So it's fourth and inches at the five. You hand the ball to Roshawn Johnson. He gets it. All right, Roshawn, come on out. Now the yards are the toughest to pick up. We go to our slightest back. Herbert out of a wildcat. Idiacy. Yeah. And that falls at the feet now. People wonder about coaching. That's coaching. It's execution, but it's coaching. I know this is what the buzzword is up there. How about execution? Execution. Okay. How about play calling? Do you ever point the finger at yourself and say we could have been better in that situation? Abraham Flus did say there was a sit down he had with Waldron about a number of things. That's got to get better. 312-332-3776. Our phone number turned to you about the Bears. Jesse Rogers at 750 on the Cubs and the White Sox on Captain Jay Hood. What's up, Nate? Our phone number turned to you about the Bears, and again, Cap, you get a lot of this envy - this football envy, pigskin envy - when you see some Bears fans looking over the other side of the fence and saying, "Well, how come we can't get that? How come we don't have this? We don't have that?" What I would say for you is like, if you think the Justin Fields should be a Chicago bear, get yourself a jersey, go to NFL Shop and get yourself a Fields Sealer jersey. You like what you saw from Jaden Daniels, you want to put on those commander colors? Get yourself a Jaden Daniels jersey. Right. Go right ahead. Yes. My point is that either you are a Bears fan and we hold the Bears accountable, or you are a fan of individual talent that you wish it was on the Chicago Bears. You have your choice. I'm not going to tell you how to fan. All I know is that for me, I'm a Chicago Bears fan, and we're here to hold them accountable for the good and the bad and the questionable that's what we're here for. And that's what we're supposed to do as good fans. I'm not looking at Washington saying, "Oh, he's crossing my legs saying, "Oh, Jaden Daniels. Oh my God. He's so good. Cap. We're Bears fans." Yeah, there's talent all over the world, all over the place in the NFL. Correct. And I pulled up the stats, you know, all these lunatics on Twitter, where it is, go to play. I told you ran Justin out of town. Really? I don't have that kind of power. Wish I did. No. I don't have that kind of power. You, hoodie, Danny Perkins, you guys are evil. You all ran Justin out of town, man. I hope so. Okay. Yeah. I've never run anyone out of town. My boy, Parker was the only one that's out of town. Yeah. Yeah. He went to New York. Pittsburgh for a sixth round pick, maybe turns into a fourth. I noticed the whole league was beating the Bears door down to trade for him. That said, he's off to a really good start. He's led them to all the three offensive touchdowns in three games. Because that's funny. Because that's how the Steelers do it, man. Right. I'm giving up eight points a game. Justin has negotiated the travails of a difficult schedule to three offensive touchdowns. Two he threw the other day and one he ran in. That's it. Same number of touchdowns that Caleb has negotiated. St. Paul, Minnesota, listening on the SP in Chicago app. Here's John on Captain J. Hood. Hey, John. Good morning. Hey, good morning. How you guys doing? What's up, Johnny? Hey, John. I just want to bet that I cannot let you slide because it ain't going to happen all you. It's going to happen all year. He can't run from this. The GM made a decision, no center, no guard. We kept that pick. So no, I'm going to speak for all their fans. The last thing they want to hear is all the offensive lines that ain't cap or J. It ain't good enough. That excuse is not flying anymore. We made the decision. This guy is supposed to make some magic, something special happen. This is going to be all the media is going to you. Everybody's going to be watching. It's going to be Jane and Daniels, Justin Fields, Caleb. Everybody's going to be looking all your long and the offensive line. That excuse. No bears fan wants to hear that because we made a decision to not get a center, not trade the pick, go this route. They were never going to trade the pick and that's the right decision when we all have blocking now. Well, then they don't sign the Andre Swift. Shay was the first guy all over at hoodie was right there with him. Don't sign. Don't sign a running that for a million. I'll just put out the position moves I did not agree with going with Caleb William going to get the Andre Swift when they knew we didn't have a center and needed either a guard or another tackle. What are we doing? Why did you agree with going with Caleb Williams? He's a better quarterback than Justin Fields. We were wasting a year of a top five defense till we just didn't feel it couldn't be three. I would take Tyson Badget right now. Yeah. Here's the thing. See, Tyson Beijing, John, and we appreciate the phone call. Here's the point that you're missing in your synopsis. The point you're missing is if it was Justin Fields, if it was Tyson Beijing, if it's Caleb Williams, it's still the same offensive line, the same slot that we see out there. Correct. I mean, your point is like you wouldn't have had Caleb Williams in number one pick. That's fine. If you want to Justin Fields to stay here, it'd be the same problem that Justin had last year. So, nothing changes there. The issue still is the offensive line. You say that you don't want to hear it, but that's one of the reasons why that the offense is not percolating the way it should is because of the lack of time and how it collapses, like a house of cards. Correct. And, you know, if people want something to blame, I just looked it up. The Andre Swift signed a three year, 24 million dollar deal with the Bears, right? Sixteen million guaranteed. Tyler Beaudish, the center last night for Washington who played so well, free agent acquisition, three year, 29 million would have cost you five more million dollars. You've got 21 million dollars in cap space now. You could have done both if you had to have the Andre Swift, not saying you had you. I agree. I'm just making the point. You walked the instant free agency started. You spent 24 million dollars on a running back, then this center gets signed for 29. It was a position and need. Yeah. How is that not the opening swing? I'll never understand it. I didn't understand it in March. I don't understand it now. John, you say you don't want to hear about the offensive line, but it is an issue. It is a talking point. 100% through the first three games of the season. As I always say, as long as it's not a trend, you go through the growing pains and hopefully it gets better as the season progresses. Just remember what the general manager said in the pregame show before the Bears took on the Colts. He says, it's not about talent. It's about execution. Anytime you have a new center and a quarterback, there's a lot of different things that happen pre-snap that move your offensive line one way or the other, and then there's the execution as well. So, when you really watch the tape, there's bits and pieces in different spaces that need to get cleaned up and our group has been challenged to figure that out. Shane and Chris Morgan have done a good job adapting and changing some things going into this next week to clarify a lot of that communication. And then what I saw too was just there was some technique and fundamentals that need to be cleaned up, and that was addressed too. So the guys worked hard this week to clean that up. At the end of the day, I believe it was a rough performance rather than bad talent, which I think in today's world, he gets thrown out there after one game the second week of the season. So, the groups worked hard, and I'm excited to see them go to work. Jesse Rogers next on "Cap and Jhood." I don't like our team. Follow Chicago's Home for Sports on Twitter at ESPN1000. Cap and Jhood are back on ESPN Chicago, Chicago's Home for Sports. It's a Cap and Jhood morning show on ESPN1000 and streaming on ESPN Chicago app. Jesse Rogers is brought to you by West Coast Men's Health, helping men with ED and chronic pain. For over five years, go to westcoastmen'shealth.com. And Jesse, Cap, is on the hotline. That would be the car ex-tire and auto hotline. Good morning Jesse, how are you? I am good, I'm ready for history, folks. We are ready for history tonight, right? Yeah. So, that piece that you worked on on ESPN.com will be coming out soon regarding the White Sox, correct? Yeah. It's scheduled for tomorrow now. If they win tonight, we might push it a day, but yeah, Buster only and I have a big white Sox piece that kind of just documents this season, also the lead-up to it. It's going to post on ESPN.com in the next 24 to 48 hours. A lot of the dysfunction, you know, a lot of Jerry related stuff, maybe not as much as the athletic last week, but it's what Sox fans may or may not want to read. It's what you'd expect. You know, how did we get here? I was talking to a texting with an executive last night, he stated the obvious for another team, and he said, "Think about it, I mean, think about it, Jesse, if you were covering a team that was about to win, it's 120th game. You'd be in awe in the same way. Do you know how hard it is to win 120 games? It's just as hard to lose 120." And yes, this is on Jerry. Remember what Keenan Middleton said? You know what rose downhill, but I really think in this moment, and I like Chris Katz, but he really underestimated how bad things can go. He really did, turning over the entire pitching staff, not fortifying a little bit more in the lineup, just to be respectable. And so our story is really like how 105 lost team goes to 120. What has to happen to go that bad? And I think, you know, gets us in the cross here is a little bit underestimating it. But again, this last thing, like, at the trade deadline, he said, "Like, if we were just trying to avoid the record, we would not have traded FETI. We would not be ramping down on crocheted pitch counts." So look, he made his bet, he understood what was going on, but you go back to March or February or January, and he just underestimated how bad it could get. So how much attention is this going to get if it's tonight, tomorrow, whenever the inevitable happens and they lose a game this week, how much national attention is it going to get? Yeah, a lot, Cap, a lot, you know, good or bad, attention-wise. The fact that it's not happening on a football weekend helps the attention if that's what you want. If you want to shine a light on this team, the fact that it's going to happen the next day or two helps. I will tell you for me, for Bristol, this is the busiest day of my season. I have a national podcast to do in an hour, I have radio, I have sports center, this is the busiest day of the year. So that's just for me. I can only imagine who else is going to beat the park, the Washington Post, the New York Times, I mean they were all their last home stand, and that was before they broke it. So yes, this will be national news, it will come and go, but certainly it won't leave Jerry Ryan's door, you know, resume, like it's on his for the rest of the time until someone else, you know, loses this many games. So he's got to wear it, I don't know if he'll be available at the park today or tomorrow, who knows? Probably not. You know, they, they all should be available. He's got to be there. They all should wear it. They all should wear it. The way he's got to be there, Jesse, be a leader, a leader is there in good and bad. Hey, man, we got to wear this. I'll be there. I'll be in Scottsdale if you need me. And I said this to you guys, I've said this to you guys before he is, you know, you guys know this. He's steeped in baseball history in lore. I haven't talked to him personally about the loss record, but you know, more than even most owners, I think it's got to hurt him. It's got to hurt him to have his name attached to it. And look, it's going to go to 123, 124, 125. Who knows what this week will bring the Tigers, Chase Tigers, will probably sweep them over the weekend. So this is going to last for a while. And this is not turning around anytime soon, Jesse. I've been saying this for a while, like when you, I have never had a general manager say in September, hey, by the way, if we didn't see, we're not going to, we're going to go for it. But it's just I'm saying from a PR standpoint, it's already bad, Jesse. You just don't say it. You could say it in the winter meetings, but just to say it, it's just so arrogant to me. Listen, it might be the truth is just that something that you don't say out loud in front of people. It's so funny. There's a third type of you throughout the study. I love it. I love it. No, you're not well. First, I'll go back to my texting with the executive, it's like in watching them against the Padres and even going back months and months, it was like, this is a triple A team right now. I mean, that's the bottom line. It's a triple A franchise in all ways. And again, I present that idea of acting less than capacity, you know, that you're just not running like a major league operation. And I know, gets us trying to turn it around. I know he said meetings and meetings and presenting things to Jerry and all these things. But until they actually do, until they spend on payroll and add through free agency and develop and quiet and all the things that the top franchise is to until they get there, we're going to be critical. So I can't argue with you saying it publicly stinks because all 30 teams should always be trying to sign good players. Capo, what did you glean from some of the stuff that Jed had to say about the Cubs? So I'm so tired of hearing, well, we were not going to be in on Soto. We're not going to be in on this guy. Yeah, we've actually we've still are paying John Lester and Jason Hayward and Trey Mancini and Tucker Barnhart and all these guys. Jesse, I'm looking across the diamond last night at a very similar situation. Philly Chicago. This isn't the Yankees. This isn't the Dodgers. This isn't the Mets with Steve Cohen. It's the Phillies. It's the Cubs. And I see Schwabert. I see Trey Turner. I see Bryce Harper. I see Nick Castellanos. I see JT Rio Muto, Aaron Nola, Zach Wheeler. They got a closer named Suarez. I look at that team and I'm like, hang on a second now. How do they keep adding all these dudes? And the Cubs, no stars. Yeah, I mean, I think you're right. I'm glad Jed was there to see another team celebrate again. They clinched the division. Look, that's an aggressive owner in John Middleton. That's an aggressive GM in Dave Dombrowski. For better or worse, the Cubs have a conservative owner and a conservative GM and a conservative president. They're all kind of lined up that way. And look, at some point, Philly is going to fall off the cliff. That payroll is going to look bad and they're going to the Bryce Harper. Who cares? Contrex is going to look old. Who cares? Three years down the line. Meanwhile, they are making playoffs. And look, it is time to put up. I agreed with Jed in this sense. You talk that you can't fast forward success. You can't rush. You can't do it unless you just buy a team outright. The point is they ripped the team apart in 21. We are now heading into 2025. Again, as you always say, this is Chicago. That is plenty of time, plenty of time. You've got to hit the 90 win mark next year. And that means probably taking a big swing. And that's what I've been saying. Like it's time to take a big swing, top the rotation, middle of the order of bat. Easier said than done, but this is the time. The time wasn't 22. Maybe it was before last season, but it certainly is before next season. That's what I'm going to be watching. Jesse, thank you so much for starting your day with us. All right, boys. Enjoy the game tonight. You too, Jess. Have fun. Get a milkshake. [MUSIC] Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Keep it. [MUSIC] Thanks, Kenny. Yeah. Thanks, Kenny. For all of it. Yuck. Garbage. That guy. Shot a no shot in two minutes on Captain J. Hood.
