Take it's Friday, It's Friday, I'm in love with this Friday Oh yeah, Friday, Thank God it's Friday This is Bear's Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday And due to this Friday, I'm the Captain Jhood Morning Show I'm the ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago ad for David Coppler Jonathan Hood with the We Have Jack We got Jay Moore And we got you, don't forget, we're here from Jesse Rogers with the latest on the Cubs and Sox MLB at 9.15 We got the Friday Boulder at 9.35 But we're talking about the Bears, our last time that we can talk to you about the Bears and the Colts So jump in now, 3.1, 2.3, 3.2, 3.7, 7.6 Will the Bears win this game? I know it's been a lot of sour thoughts from some Bears fans about that loss against the Texans But again, you go back to our predictions cap when we went through the win loss, win loss, win loss And made our official predictions, I think you and I both thought, tough environment, rookie quarterback, big spot It'd be difficult for the Bears to beat the Texans on the road I had them one at one going into this game against the Colts I had the Bears win this game against the Colts Because the Bears defense first The running game second Caleb Williams will find some allies to be able to get his first touchdown I think that's going to happen But as I've been preaching from this side of the desk for many months now There has to be patience with all of this because it's a rookie quarterback and a chained Waldron First time with the Bears Things don't work when you want it to just because they put the cleats on Just because they put the headset on It's going to take time This team to me is going to be a playoff team But one in one is better than one too There's a Colts team there that could be only 3 after all this And their season could be over Look, this is a Bears team that needs this victory They've got to take a step This is a step in the right direction This could show Go on the road Beat a desperate team with a very gifted athletic quarterback They can beat you with his arm and his legs This is an opportunity though to take advantage of a wounded opponent They're wounded Not only with their record with injuries Let's freakin' go Some thoughts here from Kel Blame's a quarterback for the Chicago Bears talks about what got better from the first week I think first and foremost is the communication in and out of the huddle We were actually pretty good with that Especially going to a On a stadium like that Obviously their fans were excited Their first home game I believe And you know they were out there Routing things like that Communication wise in the huddle and all of that I believe we did a good job And then I would say the pass game Pass game Rhythm and things like that Felt good Obviously I had the two stupid mistakes That won't happen again But I think the rhythm pass game Getting the ball to receivers I think I got better with getting the ball out my hands It felt like You know I'm trying to stay in the right range of timing I feel offensive lineman myself And the routes and things like that So I think those are the few spots that I've gotten better Caleb Williams quarterback for the Bears Yeah and if you put on the tape Just go to the NFL game pass And just put on the tape And you can't tell me he doesn't look more comfortable Look he made a couple bad throws under duress No question He had Coleman Shelton in his lap on one of them If that's got to get cleaned up up front Then he's got to take advantage also When he gets a deep shot And he's got a guy open He's got DJ Moore Got to hit him Got to step into the throw And you got to hit him It's got to all work in sync But I do believe the Bears win the football It's hard for fans though To turn a blind out of those seven sacks though cap And that those lack of opportunities In the red zone That's what people are focused on And they don't want it to be a trend And I totally understand that Yes, was it better against the Texans And it was against the Titans, yes But ultimately fans want to be able to look at Caleb Williams and say He's cleaned the pocket They were in the football They found the alleys to be open up in that offensive line And they want to get into the end zone That's only fair cap It is I mean, listen There's nothing wrong with the fans saying I think this sucks because The quarterback that I believe in Has no chance out there He gets sacked seven times Of course It's everything is all encompassing It's the quarterback It's the wide receivers It's the offensive line It's a play calling All that did not work well enough For the Bears to win on Sunday But that all said And you are I don't have any issue with what you said That all said This kid has got to give him time You've got to let him make plays When he doesn't make a play He has to be held responsible as well But we have got to understand Rookie quarterback, you're on the road You're at Houston They're a really good team And you had to ball in your hands With a chance to win at the end You told me they went out and lost 31 to 7 Okay We got some issues They had a chance to win the football game Now they got to take a step This is a big game How about some thoughts from Tommy Waddle Talking about the Bears and our offensive line issues We talk to Tommy every Wednesday On the cap and Jhood Morning Show Teens are going to adjust to what you do Know how are you going to adjust to that So, look, again, it doesn't mean That you can't succeed But if you look at the makeup of your team And now I'm not suggesting you guys are saying this But people are like, oh, now we got to ground it and pound it Oh, really? What you traded a fourth round pick for Keenan Allen You signed a pass catching tight end in Gerald Everett You signed a dual threat running back in the Andre Swift You drafted a quarterback first over on Then you drafted Roman Dunes at eight Your offensive line has a fifth round guy And you traded a fifth rounder for Bates Who's a perennial, you know, fill in guy And you signed, as we said, Coleman Chilton For three million, and you won a ground and pound Like, you have built this team Or you've gone about it in a non-ground and pound way Now, it doesn't mean you can't run the football And it's up to this OC to find a way To get more out of the running game But for everyone now, not saying you guys But for people now, let's just run the Packers offense The Packers offensive line is late years, like, again And then I just go, look, I mean, I can paint you a pretty I can paint you a positive picture There's a lot new here, guys, you've got a new quarterback You've got new players in your huddle You've got a new offensive coordinator You've faced two of the most challenging fronts In football in your first two weeks You've got to let it breed a little bit You're going to get the Colts who ranked 31st in defense this week You're going to get the Rams who ranked 32nd in defense Next week after that You get a couple weeks of solid play, you build some momentum And then we'll look at it Again, that's the Rosie side of it The hard reality is life in the NFL is really difficult It's not good enough for your receivers not to win their battles They've got to catch the ball in the end, so Your quarterback's got to be more accurate He's got to make these throws And the offensive line's got to block somewhat And the coordinator has to find a way to run the football And get his quarterback more comfortable Cap, there's no question about it You've got to be able to run the football effectively And this was Tommy's talking about, right? Tommy's on with us every Wednesday talking about this He said it all has to be able to be together To be able forward to work for the Bears I guess the Colts on Sunday That's correct It's kind of like a banana, John You have to be able to unpeel the banana And then you'll have the delicious snack You try to just eat the banana with the skin on It's not going to work That's how I correlate it to the run game You can't just run to run You've got to set your blocks You've got to run downhill And then attack the seams That's how you can make things happen You can't make that comparison Without clueing the listeners And on what we just saw outside the window I'm not sure what you mean, AI Jack But I think that we take a look at the defense though Defensively, I think the Bears are sound And they can step up even more Against a rookie quarterback in Anthony Richardson Yeah, he really is a rookie Last year he played on a handful of games And he was gone with his shoulder injury So he's still getting his footing You're correct That you've got to pressure this kid And then you've got to harass him And force turnovers AI Jack, just tell the people what we win There was somebody walking around Using a banana as a phone That was standing in front of us Talking to us with a banana in his ear He's probably trying to call him to the show Long distance No question about it 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our full number Did you see that I was not aware of Kevin I was locked in on the Bears talk And I know what you guys are doing But I was locked in Me and Jay Moore Or locked in on the Bears Right So he's got multiple pictures of people With a banana in their ear Who's that? Not really I mean, I think it's just a growing pain And I was just I was sitting here ruminating I say, you know This kind of goes back When we look at Nate Davis If you look at it James Daniels and Nate Davis Are really the same player And if you remember, James Daniels didn't get that contract From the Bears And now he was on the Pittsburgh team And then you look at the Claypool trade I think I mentioned this to you before That we not traded Claypool We would have been in a such situation With that second round pick To have gotten somebody like LaPorta So when we look at the Bears roster Now as it's configured Those are kind of the glam mistakes Suppose, but they're things That he's going to evolve Justin is looking really good In the pre-snap read And another thing that I've noticed Just as a trend in the NFL You really can't have 300 pound guards anymore When you look at guys like Jeffrey Simmons And then you look at these undertackles You've got to kind of go bigger And, you know, guards are basically Tackles now in the NFL And you've got to pay them that way So I hope that this week We can get a prior out there At the right guard And I tend to think And I text you this too I think Larry dorm Should be looked at as a right guard Because they have the mask They have the length And they can put that pressure On that inside running game And once you get the running game The Bears are going to be fine But you can't do it with 300 pound guards That just can't physically impose on The modern defensive tackles in the NFL Yeah, I don't think they're going to start Matt prior It doesn't sound like it Unless Kevin Jenkins can't go Then maybe he's in there Sounds like they're still going to try At least that's what Iber Flus is saying Have continuity along the offensive line Those guys have to play better But they're going to have to get involved In the off season And they're going to have to shop At not the dollar store They're going to have to shop at the top shelf And decide, okay, we're going to buy The best available guard Or we're going to draft players on the offensive line That's the way this thing gets fixed Leon, we appreciate the telephone calling coming up Jesse Rogers, with the latest in the Cubs and Sox Big stories on both sides of town We'll talk to Jesse coming up next Captain Jay Hood, weekday morning seven to ten Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitch At ESPN 1000 Chicago Captain Jay Hood are back On Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago Jesse Rogers is with us here on the cap and Jay Hood morning show Here on ESPN 1000 and Jesse is on the hotline Carc's tired not a hotline, Johnny Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom You feel good? Well, you know what's going on It's an emergency Friday It's a football Friday But there's a lot of stuff going on on both sides of town Yeah, who woke up Craig Council and injected him with some adrenaline I think the Milwaukee Brewers did Clinching their vision so early into September here I mean, it's not that early, but you know what I mean I mean this division's been over for months And so Craig's been holding back on talking about it Until it became sort of official He'll do another round of sort of end of the year stuff When they get eliminated from the wild card But yeah, it was good to hear that that he understands There's a huge gap He knows it better than anyone Because he was there last year and the last six, seven years And helped provide that gap But there's a big one and they need they need to close it We should talk about this cap with Craig Council Here's what he said You may not recognize him Based on this 27 seconds Yeah, I mean, we've got to get better, man Like the team, the team we're chasing is 10 games ahead of us What? I get better And then we should we should try to be building 90 win teams here I mean, you know, like that's that's like what you have to do to You know, that's the playoff standard I mean, that's that's what you got to get to To be safe safely in the playoffs, right? Um, safely in the the the tournament So, um, from that perspective, you know, we got a ways to go He's pissed that his ex is thriving Yeah, but where was that? Where was that during the year? I mean, he doesn't show a lot of emotion I don't know what he was necessarily doing behind the scenes But in talking to players, I don't think he was I'm showing a lot of emotion in that respect cap That's just not his style But but yeah, I I said all along and he was asked this yesterday I'm going to follow up again today if he's held back a little bit because It's been his first year. He didn't really answer it So I need to follow up today on it But that's been my one thing that I I felt like he's been observing more than I thought he would And just to reiterate he has none of his own coaches there He hired Ryan Flaherty the bench coach, but didn't know Ryan Flaherty ahead of time So I think changes are coming suggestions are coming to Jed He mentioned that even though he wouldn't tell us what those were going to be I guess the bottom line is what I've said I think the the fingerprints on this team are coming much more from Craig I think all of us kind of were expecting a little bit earlier But it is what it is But they need to move forward quickly because this is now two years in a row You've been waxed in the division You cannot tell me That Craig council signed up for what he's getting because I'm hearing from people I trust in that room Hey, man. Craig's not happy. This is not what I signed up for. I want to get paid. Yeah, great I didn't come here to go to the golf course on the 30th Well, but that's acting like he doesn't have a hand in this though cap I mean, is it 230 million dollar payroll? I mean how many? Okay. Hold on. Hold on. I'm going to push back for a second Okay, paying 7 million to Trey Mancini. You're paying three and a half to Tucker Barnhart You're paying 5 million to Jason Hayward Hell, they're still paying John Lester on deferred money So that it's not all into the payroll That's one two Jet said we're we can't do anymore. We're out of money, man Look they have a 20 million dollar left field or a 20 million dollar right field or a 25 million dollar short stop a 20 $7 million center field right field. Whatever he is Bellinger I mean they've got enough money invested in this team to at least close the gap The Milwaukee Brewers lost an MVP caliber player this year in christian yellich and haven't missed a beat They have a 20-year-old Batting second and it's as picked up the slacks and shell. It's went down. This is about more than just payroll This is about more than just um craig didn't sign up for this I mean, this is why you were signed up to to take an 83 win team to closer to 90 So craig can't separate himself from this Um, but I I I I don't think he was taking a shot at like rickets or anything when he said he they need to build a 91 team This is internal. He built 90 to 95 win teams with no payroll up in milwaukee So this is this is internal is as much anything. This is to be honest. You know my feeling on this. This is uh Sort of quiting the 40 000 that show up every day and being self-motivated and not just Accepting mediocrity because fans love you win or lose like all that is part of it Um, and maybe they do need a uh disturbing presence in that locker room of john lackey type To take them to another level and they also need a star that helps as well But milwaukee's been doing it without real real big stars. You got to admit that Yeah, I don't want to hear about no money cap and you shouldn't accept it either I know that's what they're saying, but it's unacceptable You want to talk about john lester and trayman seeing these other guys that enjoy the middle because that's what that's where you're going to be I'm just saying that if that's what they're leaning on as a reason or an excuse that enjoy the middle I'm not disagreeing with anything you're saying my point is that crag was not given a closer, right? He he wasn't that's a fact that falls at the feet of his boss So they can tell me they're spending 235 Some of his that some of it is to buy out of crappy moves that jet made but then like to jesse's point Why are the brewers currently in the playoffs? I mean they went through a lot this year cap This is that jesse if i'm not mistaken, we talked about this at the end of the season. This the team is supposed to step back It's it's pat murphy. It's no is no longer council They had there's no more coven burns There's let's take a step back and they are as good as they have ever been in the spot But cap might be on to some because he they didn't get a close he didn't have a real closer Um, and and so maybe that's the answer to everything here that the league has gone to a bullpen league, right? What is milwaukee thrived at under council and now under pat murk they always always have a great bullpen Yeah, now I don't know if that's development is because a development is better or because they're not spending a ton on it But they certainly develop it better and the cubs and this has been jett's mo Have been just kind of put it together by on the fly because it can be so volatile But they went from hater to devan williams to one of the mcgill brothers is you know I don't know what what what the formula is up there But one thing they've had over the cubs is certainly a better bullpen If you look at the entirety of the last six seven years I keep hearing that pat murphy runs it like a football team That's why I keep hearing and from Milwaukee 17 stars and 12 closers For the rules this year 12 12 different guys would saves. I mean hat's off and yell it's down and yell it's down Yeah and a 20 and a 20 year old baking an impact. Um, but again, it's a different market. You know that the demands are different I just feel like, you know, let's compare it to to them But also you're supposed to just compare to yourself as well You need to be better at your job internally and then the results will come and it just it just hasn't happened over the last couple years Now a star or two would push it forward It would absolutely push it forward. You would own you should own that division and one way to do it is Spend on a star or two and they haven't been able to do that in the biggest way How about the white sock story from the athletic from ken rosenthal and others what I mean, I think that over the years jesse We've heard Hey, you know, the white socks are not on the top shelf when it comes to analytics or some of the the amenities that Major league baseball teams need to be able to win or the tools they need to win This was a damning story from Uh, the archaic plane to the lack of analytic weapons that the socks should use like upper echelon teams do Yeah, all of it is an example of something. I've been talking about for two years here And buster only and I have a story coming out next week similar Related story about the white socks when they break the record Just some context like on the plane the plane thing came up on in our reporting as well I will say that players told me there's about six or seven or eight teams that have similar Bad planes and equated planes, but here is the point the point is They operate at less than full capacity and I've said this so many times. Where does it impact them? Everywhere an antiquated plane antiquated player development antiquated Analytic systems Payroll. This is my point when I kept saying they at they operated 70 capacity might be even less But here's the the larger point as we talk about milwaukee or in the white sex case the cleveland guardians When you have an inadequate owner and I mean they won't spend You need that much sharper of a general manager to get around those limitations How does cleveland win how does how is can't the city winning now? I was told specifically they have an antiquated plane, right? So their systems are enough to speed it necessarily when it comes to spending on all these other things But when you have a sharp gm, you can get around things and that is the question mark right now with criscets Candy and I know he's presenting some of these inadequacies to jerry and hopefully jerry will spend to change them But is criscets and his group sharp enough to build a team despite an inadequate owner because other Markets have done that and that's the white sex challenge because jerry's not changing Why do I feel like jesse that today it won't be a meeting because if I was in that in jerry shoes And that this was written I would get my people here go. Are we got to fix all this I would never let it get to that but I would go okay The plane thing get that fixed lee analytics give me put a plan together. Let's get this thing right Let's make everything Why do I get the feeling that they're going to come in the conference room and they're going to spend the lion's share of the meeting Trying to figure out who was talking to rose and thongaroli. Yeah, well They're going to do the same thing next week with a buster to i because we've all sorts of quotes, you know from play Yeah, but here's the same cap if you read passing last week he wrote it They are Examining everything and going to present it to jerry. This is going on now Why didn't go on why didn't it go on under rick and kennie because I think they were just happy with the status quo There was dysfunction there kennie wanted certain things rick wanted certain things I do believe that they did get along Um in in when they were in the same room together, but probably had different thoughts when they left that room Um, so yes, I like the fact that jerry hired one voice That was the right thing to do whether cats can get it done or not I don't know but they are presenting jerry with a bunch of changes But to answer your question is jerry gonna spend money that he and i'm using air quotes doesn't have He doesn't spend money to make money and the way this team is is as sort of lost money through attendance and other means Uh, you know lost money again air quotes I don't know if he's going to spend money on it on a on a more modern plane for example or modern more modern Uh processes and analytics and stuff. I think he'll address some of it But not all of it because he's not going to spend money that he quote again doesn't have Unbelievable and then of course before you even get to the end of the season jesse you get chris get sand Yeah, we won't be a player free agency. Okay. I mean again just just pretend You don't have to put your cards on the table before the season ends Just so you know slocks fans if you thought about, you know, you know having a ticket plan or just having a good day The ballpark don't bother That's what he said. Yeah, we talked about that last week and I I don't disagree with you Um, but I like no one's fooled. They weren't going to change their their free agent Um sort of plan But after losing 120 games. I mean my point is they weren't going to buy it a contender This thing's going to be slow and you've said it's six maybe five to seven years. Who knows? god jesse the story that you have with buster that's going to be on when they Break the record or there's a set date Um, it's it might be Tuesday So that could be record breaking because are they really going to beat the pod race? I mean this weekend. I don't think so So I think it's going to run tuesday or maybe wednesday. It's either tuesday or wednesday So yeah, it's got good stuff some of it. You probably you know the athletic have the same sort of vibe We're going to focus a lot more on this season, but also the lead up to it So it's going to have some different stuff as well jesse is always we appreciate man. There's no question, but the the I just think offensively they left a lot to be desired and also not very great in transition defense The shields the line of the shield's daughter pretty good player Um, but they need to find some shooting they definitely do the rebounding they got down But the transition defense and offensive prowess that's got to be better. They're better than this It better be in in year two for those two twin towers. Yeah, it's a super disappointing way to finish the season super disappointing so Hopefully next year all the jealous cats Around the league for katelyn just go out.
