What time is it? It's Dayard Thursday. Thursday. Tom Thayer. Thayer. 1985 Super Bowl champion and football analyst for the Chicago Bears. Heat to win the division, win the division, get into a playoffs. Former offensive lineman. Do they need to get better? Do they need to give up less sacks? Yes. Of course. Tom Thayer. Tom Thayer. It's Dayard Thursday. On Captain Jay Hood. ESPN Chicago. Good morning Chicago and welcome in to the cap and Jay Hood Morning Show. On ESPN 1000 and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. We've got Jack and we've got Jay Moore. We have you here on this day or Thursday and Tom is on the hotline. That would be the Car X Tire about a hotline. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom, boom. Don't worry. Tom Thayer brought to you by the village of Rosemont located just outside the city. Rosemont. It is your one stop shop destination for fun. Rosemont. It's all here. Good morning to you, Tom. How are you? Good morning, Jay Hood. How are you doing? We're doing great. Are you kidding me? One in one. Getting ready to take on Indianapolis Colts. We're ready to go. Yeah. You know, I mean, it kind of what we thought at the beginning of the season. If you got out of the first two games and you were one on one, you know, what could one and one? What could you do in this third game in Indianapolis? They have a young inexperienced quarterback and the Bears have a young inexperienced quarterback themselves. But what defensive team can go out there and play the most physical destructive game of football against the opponent's offense? Tom, let's talk about the offensive line with Uberfluze coming out yesterday and saying, yeah, I don't anticipate any changes of everyone's healthy. I just want continuity. Yet the offensive line, Nate Davis, especially when I watch the tape and I don't have your trained eye, obviously, but boy, that's second half. He looked disinterested and awful. What would you do? Well, if everyone's healthy and at the injury report yesterday, two of them, both of the offensive guards are on the injury report and Kevin Jenkins didn't participate in practice. So I always felt that I would keep Matt Pryor in the rotation at offensive guard and he gives you a much bigger body. He gives you a much bigger point of attack strength point. If you had those third ones or even on a fourth down that they went for and I think it would increase the urgency of everybody to stay at the top of their game, get better and give Chris Morgan more options on the offensive line. And I think even in the case of Coleman Shelton, I would have to kind of investigate where where's my my center? The Hinsdale kid. A camera. Oh, yeah, Kramer. Kramer from Illinois, Doug Kramer. So you know, Doug Kramer has been around a couple of years. He's invested time in the weight room. He's invested time in the cafeteria. He's a bigger body. He's got a nice step to him. So if I do need to increase the competition, maybe I do give a little bit of a rotation to see how these guys can, you know, kind of increase the performance of the offensive line. Would you send a message? Because Kevin, I've talked about it. Look, Nate Davis has been raked over the coals a lot. The offensive line has, but definitely Nate Davis, and you mentioned Pryor, we've been talking about it. I have no problem with Pryor being the starter and Nate Davis being a rotation guy coming in because you have to send a message that the way that they played was not good enough. The whole offense in general, as far as trying to get multiple, you know, multiple scores in the end zone. Yeah. You know, Jay Hood, one thing about the offensive line in the running game. When I'm talking about a play that I call in the interior of the offensive line, that's from the shoulder of the inside shoulder, the right tackle to the inside shoulder, the left tackle. And there's a high percentage of plays that there's the point of attack inside that area. What I'm going to ask my running backs not to do is not to pick and choose. I'm going to ask them to hit the hole called in the huddle. And then that puts your offensive line on a kind of organized blocking scheme of how they're going to go from level one to level two. And we're not asking for that running play to be a touchdown every time they call it. I'm asking my offensive line to give me a two and a half or three yard impact zone inside that defense, have the running back lower its shoulder and try to get that to four to five yard carry. And then I'm going to better understanding if I have a deficiency on the offensive line because sometimes, and there's a couple times in that game the other night, that they're running back was choosing their own point of attack and by the time the offensive guards were getting to the second level, the linebackers were running in an opposite, unpredicted decision where the offensive lines thought they should be in setting up their block. So if I have to do anything that's going to tell me a lot about offensive line performance and running back decision, it's going to say, look guys, when you were running an interior play, stay to the point of attack outside, it's up to the running back, you're going to have to see those outside zone plays like where you think your biggest crease is being created and then you run accordingly. But interior, I think you'll learn a lot more about your team if you ask them to stick to the point of attack. So you would say that based on the offensive lines performance, it hurt more with the running game more than the passing, correct? Well, I do only because your running game is very specific and that's immediate response. Point of attack, get your running back full head of steam and run accordingly. On the pass protection from the, we are eight stories above the field. And so when you're looking down and you're looking at the down a distance and you count the available blockers that the bears have and then you look at how many bodies are at or near the line of scrimmage. So you take the guys that are at the line of scrimmage, you count them out, okay, there's one for everybody and including the running back. And then you look at that sixth or seventh guy and you say, okay, he is about two and a half yards off the line of scrimmage and he can come as much or he will come as much as any of those down linemen. And so that's where the deficiency to me that I think put Caleb in a bad position is putting a lot of responsibility on his head to understand the vulnerabilities of the protection and making sure you know exactly where the hot read is going to be and then pull off everything accordingly with the dysfunctional snap count because of the crowd noise. I just think it, you know, you put these guys in the most difficult position possible. 29 years, the voice of the bears, the great Tom Thayer, a Super Bowl champion. I want to read you something, Caleb Williams and a clean pocket versus Houston hoodie and I discussed this earlier, 76% completion rate, 141 passing yards, zero interceptions. But when you look at him under pressure, 33% completion percentage, 33 yards, two picks. So do we have to be careful that we, I believe you got to stay wedded to the downhill running game, smash people in the mouth and then let him play action off that or take a shot if they bring too many up in the box and quit trying to run against with silent count, trying to get the stretch plays with DeAndre Swift. Let's run between the tackles behind the guards. Let's try and smash somebody in the mouth. When you hear those numbers concerning you are not a surprise. They are concerning to me because you're talking about going to play a team on an indoor stadium and I don't know how supportive the Indianapolis crowd is going to be or there's going to be a nice travel of bears fans to go to Indianapolis. But because it is a copycat league and all these defensive coordinators look at the amount of tape they have available to them right now, they're going to look at what created the most troubles for the bears offense at that point, both first, second and third down and they're going to follow that plan until the bears show the ability to overcome that. 29.2% of the runs so far have been runstuffs for negative yards. I think they only have nine rushing first downs and DeAndre Swift only has one rushing first down. If you want to incorporate that running game, that power running game that you're talking about, Cap, that I'm a big fan of as well, it is about going to what I say, making sure that you put the offensive lineman to have that pre-predicted position of success to help the running back get the most amount of yards. So if they get three yards on first down, four yards on second down, whatever the case is, then you're talking about putting your offense in a makeable scenario in terms of that time of protection needed to provide a clean pocket for Caleb. I think if you're getting into unrealistic down in distances, now you're really stressing the length of the protection, the time needed for the receivers to get in a makeable first down position, it's not getting them beyond the first down marker, then making the completion. Can you throw it in an anticipated run after a catch type of position? And so all the little things that they can do to help themselves the most can put their offense in a position to succeed and if the defense keeps on playing as well as they're playing, then you may provide an extra series or two for yourself to go out and try to get the extra points you need. So Tom and I did a charity volleyball tournament two weeks ago, hoodie. We were at North Avenue Beach for Jules 125th anniversary. We had a great time. The mayor came by, there was a bunch of people raised money for charitable cause the whole deal, but I learned some things about how you got to hear this. Tom Thayer does not own a clothes dryer. You don't own a clothes dryer. I have a line that I hang the clothes on outdoors just because you live in Will County doesn't make you a hillbilly. No, you know what happens, we had rain in the basement a couple of maybe six or seven years ago in a room, they're dryer, so I took it out of the basement and I've never got it replaced. And I said, I know the people that act, I said, I'll get you a dryer and he goes, don't want one. Tom, you're better than that. I mean, what kind of endomorphic human being are you? You're still, I mean, what are you in? West Memphis, Arkansas, you can get yourself a damn dryer. You're Tom Thayer. In the winter, he hangs the clothes in the basement, right? Yeah, my dad made a couple racks to hang down the basement. Listen, I come from a family that my mom and dad were depression, depression, air, kids. And so it's live as cheaply as possible. When my mom passed away, I took like 36 bags of stored clothes out of the basement and brought them to Goodwill because my mom was that type of person. So it was, and then my dad used to have the phrase because my dad was a lineman for Commonwealth Edison for 46 years and he used to, I also grew up in a house that we don't have air conditioning. And my dad used to say, look, I, I work at ComEd, I don't own it for, so shut the fan off. Wow. Yeah, just the way, listen, man, I love my mom and dad the way we were raised, but it's on, you know, they put some of those ideas in our head as well. Tom, times change. He has no cable. Tom, is that right? You don't have cable? Yeah. Well, I don't have all the channels that you guys talk about when you talk about all the, like everybody says, Hey, have you been watching this on this, you know, cable deal that you have to have? And I don't, I don't have any of those. So I don't watch like CBS two. You don't have that. Did you have that? Is there a CBS two? Is there, is there really? Yes. Oh, man, I did not know that I did not, I swear to God, I did not know that hoodie. He is zero social media. I believe that. He has a need. Don't you want to follow, like, chefter? He's like, no, I'll find out. Yeah. Right. He's got, he's got Johnny act for that. He doesn't need social media. Jeff will tell him. Oh, man. Cap, you're throwing me other boss. I thought it was a problem. I thought it was a private conversation. It was so nice. I thought I came home. I told my wife, she's like, that's a man after my own heart, simple life. He loves football and he's just a good guy. Oh, you're awesome. I just want you to, I just want you to understand time. I mean, Tom, you're on a lot of different TV channels and you don't even get them. I know. I know. Like I said, Jay Hood, I honestly didn't, I don't know if you're telling me the truth or pulling my leg about CBS too. I did not know that. So channel two, like you grow. Oh, yeah. I thought you met. There's like another CBS channel, like a second. Listen, I went on, so we all two, five, seven, nine, yeah, 32, 44, 26, and channel 11. That was it. That's what we got. That's what we got. Sunday morning professional wrestling. Yes. Yes. Gilligan's Island at three 30 after school. Yeah. Come on. We're the same age. What was the main sponsor of the wrestling on Sunday morning? What was it that car? Was it the car place, the singing, the singing Ford man that's very schmuller. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was Ben Zotto sales. Okay. Ben Zotto sales. Ben over backwards. Thank you. Well, I remember the schmuller, the singing Ford man. Harry Schmuller. You're going to have to buy your baby. Yeah. I'm Harry Schmuller. What are you? Schmuller is on again. And moving on. Yeah. You had one stop. You're the best time. We love you. You guys are awesome as well. Tommy, do you remember? Lastly, do you remember your time taking on the Baltimore or Indianapolis Colts? Because there's a overtime loss against the Colts in Baltimore in 83. That was Mike Pagel was the quarterback for the Colts. I don't know if Jim McMahon got knocked out because I see McMahon and Vince Evans play in that game in 83. It looks like they both did. Okay. That's I was so I was finishing up my USFL time in that game, but I hear a lot of stories about it because after they came in the locker room, Ditka was so mad that he was reaming the guys out and he punched the equipment locker. And he said, all right, everybody say a prayer doctor come to the training room with me because he broke his hand in the next week. He had a cast on his hand. Oh, my God. Wow. Yeah. After that loss against Baltimore, then you went on a run like the teams that you were on, Tom, you you won over Indianapolis and 85 88 and 91. Yeah. I think the 85 game, it was really, really crappy weather and Ditka told us before the game and he says, Hey, you guys, I'm not going to throw the ball very much today. So you got it. We're going to run it majority of the time. And I think we ended up running like the first 22 plays of the game. And we didn't win by very much and the weather was awful and we got yelled at for only winning by a small margin. Yeah. I want to say it was like it's 15, a 16, nothing, something like that. Something like that. Yeah. Yeah. And I December 8th, 1985, 17, 10. That's what it was. 17, 10, I know it wasn't a big score and Ditka wasn't happy with us. And then what was our record at that point? Your record at that point was 13 and one. Oh, 13 and one after that game. Yeah. Okay. And rushing yards, Chicago, 44 carries for 191. Yeah. Peyton carried it 25 times 111 yards. Matt Suey had 17 Calvin Thomas. I love Calvin Thomas. Yeah. I love Cal had 27. So yeah, that's a Mike Paygo against Jimmy McMahon game right there. Yeah. Yeah. That was awesome times. Yeah. Yeah. It was ran a football a ton. That's true. Awesome. Hey, man. Have a great day and a great trip down to Indy and I hope you like the trip cocktail at Saint Omos. Grote. Go Bears. Go Bears. See you boys. See you. He's the best. That guy. Truly. He's one of my favorite people because he's a wonderful person. He laid it out about the offensive line. He talked about the running game. He's echoing what we've all said. He was more disappointed in the running game and the offensive line not opening the holes within the passing game. And by the way, as you laid out those numbers about how Caleb was able to complete passes, it's because when he didn't have pressure, he was able to matriculate the ball down the field. That's why I'm very, very confident that if it's not this week or the week, it's coming. It will get there. All right. Coming up, we'll get your reaction to what Tom there had to say and your expectations for the Bears and Colts. If you're on hold, you will be on the air on the cap and J-hood morning show. It's coming. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. The cap and J-hood are back on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. It's a cap and J-hood morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With the cap on J-hood, we've got Greenie coming up at 10 o'clock. Then Carmen and Yurco from 93 Octa and Brewery in St. Charles, Wadland Sylvie will broadcast live from Hallows Hall. Bears weekly with Jeff and Tom at 6.30 and then Black Nubdala at 7.30 right here. Are you home for the Chicago Bears and White Sox, ESPN 1000, 3.1.2.3.2.3.2.3.7.6 is our telephone number. Yeah. Maddie Raflu said when it comes to the offensive line, he preaches continuity. Yeah, I mean, we're looking for continuity and consistency and communication and getting better. That's what we're focused on. So I just think like I go back to my original comment, it's fundamentals, it's basics, you know, and it's important that we get that down as a group. And so we're going back to that. That's what win football games. Right. We're working. Yeah, we're working. You know, so it's we're working and guys are working in fundamentals and we're figuring out what we do. Well, you know, it's a second game in our offense, right, you know, so we're going to figure it out. You know, I believe that we got better last week, you know, in terms of rhythm, timing, passing, distributing the ball to the skill. Okay. Now we're working, run game, all the other things that come off of that. And like I said, we're working progress. And I believe in the coaches and I believe in the players and the guys are working to get that done. Love the brother. Next to you. Cash a question. Yes, sir. Dragon Slayer. Yeah, sure question for a guy who has what I would consider a top five defense before it's all squared away the bears. Do you think that he was ever wonders why he doesn't get a lot of questions about the defense that he built? You think that you're these press conferences like I do every week 98% of the questions about the offense. Yeah, because the defense is good because when the defense was scuffling before they got Montez sweat last year, he got questions about it. You're still going to call the defenses. Why are you not getting home to the quarterback blah, blah, blah, blah. Why is the run? Why are they running on you? Now it's good. Hmm. I mean, every press conference, no one's asking about why the defense is so good because people want to go right to the questions, want to go goes to the question marks about the team. Yeah, I mean, if I'm the one that's really architect of it and it's it's stellar, it's singing cap that defense and no one ever asked me about it. That's it. That just said, just think that's interesting because it's good. Why is your coach? What? I mean, we'll talk to you about 47 points this weekend, you're going to get plenty of defensive questions. No question. But I think also some flowers should be thrown at his feet as well about how good his defense has been. We asked, who is this going to rush to the quarterback besides Montez sweat? And we got some answers so far. Did it first couple of weeks? Do we not? We did. He's here. He's here. Billings looks great. Montez is getting double sometimes double and chipped. I mean, he's getting hit a lot, but that means other guys got to get home. Yeah. I just wonder about that. I wanted to in his minds eyes thinking and our defense is pretty stout here. We're opportunistic. We're in turnovers. No one's asked me about that. Anyway, when I asked me about my good defense, my stellar defense, anybody anybody? If he be he wanted to be funny, if they want, obviously not a loss and not at the podium after the game, that's more serious, but he comes back and meets with you on Monday. Bears win 31 seven. Coach got asked you about Caleb, you know, this or whatever it was. Nobody wants to talk defense about my defense. I would say that. That'd be funny. It would be a sidebar, may I approach brought to you by Incan law, three, one, two, six million for the great Howard, so my ball. So we talked about the overexaggeration about DJ Moore and his body language towards Tyson Beijing about what's going to happening with the offense. And it's like, uh, we had an opportunity to score and, you know, people rake DJ more over the coals about it. How about CJ Stroud, another overexaggeration, all in the same game, by the way, CJ Stroud on NFL films was caught saying this to Caleb Williams. Good job out there, bro. Yeah. Yeah. All right. All right. All right. Look, come here. All for those mistakes and everything that you got, bro, is in you already, bro. You're going to be held the player in this league. All right, boy. So I loved it. I thought it was a classy move. There. I mean, two young players. Amen. Don't take those hits. You look good out there. Same age. We're good, man. All right. You know, stay healthy. See you next time. Nothing wrong with that. No, no, no cap. Is this not two young players talking to one another, encouraging one another, or definitely CJ Stroud because he's been the playoffs and Caleb was not in this first year, is that encouraging cap? Nope. Gotta read into it. People thought that CJ Stroud was big brothering, Caleb Williams. Because people are stupid. All right. We move on to the next thing. Don't you think? Three one, huh? You think people are stupid out there, like he wasn't big growing him. He was being classy at a buddy of mine. He works in the industry. What's his name, cap? David Hall. He said he thought he did that because the mic was on him like, are you out of your mind? Was a classy move. What was David Hall free hot? What was it? I don't know if that happened recently or? No, he thought that that was CJ Stroud only did it because he knew the camera was on him. Oh, Hall said that. Yes. Did he write that in the column or? He said it to me. Oh. I'm sure he said it out of his forms, but I'm like, I'm like, what, come on. What did Molly say? He cackled. Of course. Well, of course he did. CJ Stroud, my giddy aunt, CJ Stroud had to talk about it to the press in Houston. I was talking to him, he knows it, and I told him I was expecting that, but I had so many guys coming to me after games, I scared him. That meant the world, meant the world to me that those guys even thought about getting me advice. So I just tried to get back to what the game was getting for me. I wish him the best man. I want him to do amazing in his league. I think he will. I think that he'll get his groove. Once you get your rhythm, I didn't give my rhythm until like week three before, I could see him, his game picking up from here, and so, and you know, I don't think he was trying to like, you know, be any towards my agents, I would say that they lost, totally understand. So I would have to respect that guy, man. I want him to do extremely well just like any other guy until we play on that day, you know what I mean? After the game, we can be cool, you know what I mean, but I'm definitely, you know, rooting for him. We want to see him do extremely well. Why does CJ Stroud have to explain that? It's just, again, we should put on the pole what is more dumb, the idea that, you know, you have the quarter, the wide receiver for the Bears, DJ Moore, having to somewhat apologize to Caleb Williams for his body language in a loss, or CJ Stroud, who's just trying to just kind of just elevate and try to encourage his rookie quarterback, Caleb Williams, that's in this league. And people accuse him a little, bro, and yeah, that was just, dumb, dumb, you know, people are like, well, he did say he bears, he did not say they shouldn't draft Caleb. He said they should stick with Justin Fields, because that's one of his best friends. Yes. They were together in Ohio State, what's it supposed to do? Say, yeah, I'd get rid of Justin, not gonna say that. God, come on, people. I mean, and then if you don't address it, then you're an a-hole, right, we're not talking about that. In the next game, if you're CJ Stroud, right, we're on the Minnesota. That's who they play. So I guess. And then, you know, if he says that now, now that's a problem. Man, do you have to be able to address every little thing that comes from social media? I don't think that that was written in Houston Chronicle, he needs it in the Chronicle that you open up the paper. Oh, CJ Stroud, little brothers, Caleb Williams, oh, that's a, that's not in the paper. Absolutely not. That's probably is today, just dumb, all the keyboard warriors out there. So now, Jay Moore, you understand, you can't encourage and you also cannot have a reaction, a visceral reaction when there's failure on the team, on the football field. You understand that now, right? Yeah. So, so that means, like, if you want to come to the circle and, like, say, hey, good game, can't do that either because the microphones are on, can't do that. Right. It's just a little ball, man. All of it is, is, is a little ball. All of it. Just nonsense. It gets stupid. Dion Sanders spoke on how college athletes are treated. Why he thinks some people are jealous and more of your phone calls coming up, 3, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. Cap and Jay Hood, weekday morning, 7 to 10. Cap, what's the temperature in this room? Would you set it to? I didn't talk to it. 69. I'm seeing a 71 over here. 69. 70. Right there. Okay. Why? Well, it's a little warm in here. I could turn it down for you. I never touch it today. I always ask. You know that. I think sometimes you try to smoke me out of here. Yeah. I think that's what it is. Wear them down. Cap wants as close to Tampa, Florida as possible in the studio at all times. All right, I have it at 64 right now. Wow. We'll be out of here soon. You won't be frozen out. Correct. Sometimes he likes to do this around like Tampa, something like that, something like the keys. He likes it that warm in here every day because he tries to wear me down, but it's never going to happen. Wow. He likes to just get me down on, you know, make sure that I'm worn down. That'll be all. Yeah. Take it out of here on the cart. That's what he wants. No shot. Cap, you were talking earlier off the air about something that Dion Sanders said that stood out to you most. So Dion was talking to the media in his Dion style and he talked about, you guys would never criticize college athletes, guys and gals in the media. He would never criticize the college athlete. And now because they're making money and making a lot more in all of you, you're jealous. All right. Let's hear from Colorado coach Dion Sanders. When I say I genuinely love these kids, I genuinely really do. It's not about what they can do for me on the football field is about what I can help them with in life. Landscape has changed in football. Once upon a time, you guys never attacked college players. Now they're making more money than y'all. And some of y'all are envious and jealous about that. So you're on the tech. It was hands off a college player because he's an amateur. Remember that, guys? Not his hands on. Go at him. Any kind of way you want. They're making more money than me. They got it. When you attack them, attack them, attack them, these guys are sensitive. They've never been attacked. They hadn't gone through what a grown man, what I've been going through with y'all for years. They haven't done that. So it is what it is. I know you're going to do your job and what you must do, but your job does not say attack. The personal stuff, leave it to be personal because we start flipping the script on y'all. You won't like it. That's easy. Thank you, Lord, for stopping me to that there. Oh, that was almost a good one. That would have went viral. That would have went viral. You know, is there ever going to be about the football team with Coach Brian? I mean, because they're not good. I guess that's the reason. This is the meat shield. This is the era for Deion Sanders to go after the media almost every week about something. A banning of CBS, an issue about what's being written. And now the media is jealous because players are making more money than the media. That would have went viral. I understand that. But is there ever going to be about the football? You know, it's not going to be about the football cap is because they're not going to win the big 12. That's one. That's one. Two, once your door Sanders goes to the pros, whenever that's going to be or a hunter is going to go to the pros, that'll be all for Colorado. See, whatever, all the glitters is not gold. For our generation cap, Deion Sanders, wow, the kind of guy that Deion Sanders was on the front of Sports Illustrated, all the sports periodicals. Look at a guy that played two sports, baseball and football. We've been watching him since he was 19 years old and he was flashy then. Must be the money. Guy had a big smile, but he could back it up because he was a shut down corner. I know that that's becomes like a fancy phrase for a podcast or our sports pundits use shut down corner all the time. Let me tell you something. Michael Parsons, not even in the same zip code as the Deion Sanders in his prime. When I don't use that phrase all the time, shut down corner, that was a shut down corner. Deion Sanders, you weren't even throwing his way cap. That guy was the best cover corner I've ever watched. I'm sure there's others that are at that level in the Hall of Fame. That guy was amazing. But is it ever going to be about, hey, we be Colorado State and we beat him handily actually. And now we play Baylor. Like every other coach can't do it though because it's always about something else which tells me cap that as much as I think that it's cool that Deion Sanders is giving back by being a head coach and kids want to play for Deion, someone want to play for Deion definitely, it's never about how they can get better. It's about everything else. And it's a meat shield for what's really going on in Colorado and we don't know now, but we will know. We will. And when he's out of there, I don't know where he'll go next. Some people say he'll get the Cowboys job. I don't agree. Why would the Cowboys hire him? No, I've heard Florida State too and again, it's about one lost record. You can come in here as a barnstormer like, hey man, I'm coach prime, players want to play for me. But here's the thing cap, it's not like he's got a million all Americans on that team. He said last year at the end of the last year's you recall, he said, get us now because we're going to be good next year. Get us now. You know, we lose games. That's fine. But next year. Okay. Well, next year is now. And all I keep hearing is meat shields and complaints about other things. How about the football team? That matter? Or no? Just saying, yeah, you're valid, all valid. I'm not jealous that college football players are making more money than me. I couldn't care less. This is something we've been talking about for 30 years on the radio or more about whether we're going to get a time where there'd be more than just a stipend for college athletes. We've talked about this for years. It will never happen, never happen. All of a sudden the floodgates open and there is just no checks and balances. There's no czar to stop it. And so why would I be jealous of a college athlete making millions of dollars? I'm not. I think it's cool. I'm happy for them. I think it's gotten a lot of control. But God bless them. Let me ask you a question. If he's a 20 year old kid, whether he's getting paid or not, do we not have the right to criticize the quarterback of pick the team, Michigan? If he screws up, we can't criticize him because he's a kid. It's not like I'm picking on the sophomore quarterback at Providence Newlettics. Right. You're playing in the big 10. You're a year away from going to the NFL and I'm not supposed to say be honest. I'm not talking about personal attacks here. Right. I disagree with him. Here's what I would tell Coach Prime if you sit right between us. I would tell him, Coach Prime, you're right. The way things were written back in the day about college athletes, we'd go after the coach and the coaching staff first, the program. This quarterback's not getting the job done. Well, what are you doing to tutor them because college was there, was put in place after high school to still learn. You learn in the high school level, you learn on the college level, and then you get to the pros if you're fortunate, right? Yep. Okay. So look at college athletics now, isn't that close to the pros than ever before? Because the money that's doled out to these athletes, that's when the conversation changed. It did. That's when the conversation changed. Look how much money that they're making. And if we look at Quinn Ears and just say, you had a bad game, does that make me a bad guy? Right. If you come on the air, you're covering Texas football and you go, what Quinn Ears was horrible today. He killed us, turn it over three times. Now if you come out and go Quinn Ears is a horrible human being. That's different. Yeah. But you're being honest about their performance, it's like I walked in a wriggly one day. This is years ago when I was doing the Cubs. And one of the players said, dude, I thought we were cool. I said, we are cool. What happened? You killed me on the post game show yesterday. I said, I did. What did I say? You ripped me because I was 0 for 4 with four strikeouts. Oh yeah. You were 0 for 4 with four strikeouts. You left the bases loaded. You killed us. It happens all the time. I'm just reading the stats. Yeah. Happens all the time. Me and Mark Burley got into it. Burley sent someone at the same station. I'm never going to listen to that guy. I'm never coming on the show again. Had to go to the locker room the next day. Mark is our problem? Yeah. I heard what you were railing on me. You guys lost 9 to 1. I wasn't railing on you. I was just telling you, telling the facts that it was not a good game for your team. Yeah. So I said, whatever you heard, understand that it's not personal. Do you understand? And like we got, we were better after that, but just the idea that I'm mad because you told the facts. Right. We just read the facts. So, but Mark Burley and I did not come to blows. Good. Because you know who would have won that? Mark Burley. Yes. Come on. Tracy Butler with the latest on the weekend weather. This next on Captain Jhood. You're listening to Captain Jhood. Follow the show on Instagram at the Catman and at IGJhood. This is ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. Not time for the Captain Jhood cut of the day. It's brought to you by Chicago Cut Steakhouse, another gorgeous day. Tracy Butler is valedictorian of the weather forecast. Go to Chicago Cut, sit down in the patio, cheat more. Yes, it's boring, but it's a sport. Oh, whatever. It's not boring. Okay. Then you're boring. All right. Cut. Shame. What doesn't want the nickname anymore. I'm giving it to you. First take Jack. I mean, come on, man. What are we doing? How many more games can win games already close? How many more games can he play like he already has and still win rookie of the year? Four more? Five? Look at that. Joe Flacco was on his couch at Thanksgiving and he won Comeback Player of the Year. Stop. Please, I'm begging you. Well, that's why he won Comeback Player of the Year. Just let it play out, man. All right, God, his window is already closing. Guys, stop. Please. Anytime you hear that music, you're getting AEI Jack, he's getting revved up. You hear him? He's getting mad now. I'm sorry, Jack. Don't get him upset because when he gets upset, the music starts. See his back right there? See Jack's back? It's lit up. Oh, man. Look at the buttons. System overload. System overload. Oh, hello. Jay Moore, please help him. Oh, God. He's getting... See, you pissed him off, man. Now you pissed Jack off for part of the expression. And that's all. Don't... The Captain Jacob Cut of the Day. Brought to you by Chicago Cut takeoffs. It's on the south and north side of the Chicago River. David Flomnetmore is great spot. Let's go to the newsroom. Okay. ABC7I with his news. Tracy Butler is here. No. To give us the weekend weather, brought to you by ComEdSolar, go to ComEd.com/Solar. Good morning, Tracy. Good morning, buddy. You do not need a shawl. You're a sweater. No. Just yet. Gorgeous. Beautiful. You are like summa cum laude. Wow. Yeah. Wow. Tracy, you ever... You might fail your boards in about a month, but... Tracy, you ever... You ever think about working in San Diego because that's what you've been doing the last three weeks. It's... It's sunshine. Again. Yes, I know your lawn is... It's another beautiful day. Yes. I know. It's been like July and September. Without the humidity, though, I mean, the humidity levels have been fairly low, but we are definitely parched. We've had four hundreds of an inch of rain this whole month and the last time, I mean, in the past 30 days, we've had a little over a half of an inch of rain. So definitely dry, definitely we'll be getting the new drought index in today. I would think most of us are probably officially in the drought now. Sounds good. Okay. Yeah. I want to ask you about the... Was it the weeds and the grass and the molds? The pollen counts. How's that going? So the ragweed is starting to come down. That's some good news. But in order to get rid of all of this, we kind of need some cold. Mm-hmm. And because I know I've been struggling, right? As recently as Monday, the ragweed was in the high category, along with mold and the weed pollen, too. So certainly not appreciated. How about this weed? Is that appreciated or? No. It's not? No. Okay. Oh my gosh. I guess that weed is still high. Oh, gosh. Okay. I hope my parents aren't listening. Okay. It's been another... They'll probably have no clue what we're talking about. Hey, this weekend, though, okay. So I think we have some promising chances of some rain coming our way here Sunday evening into the day on Monday. Still going to be really warm. You're 90 today, and you're 90 tomorrow, maybe a few little stray showers tomorrow. But Saturday is the last full day of summer on our calendar. Still going to feel very summer-like fall officially arrives at Tummo Equinox 743 AM on Sunday. So we're looking at an adiabatic process coming, like a thermodynamic change in the state of our system, right? Who did... What's he hidden? Adiabatic. What's he hidden? Adiabatic. Adiabatic process. Adiabatic. An adiabatic change of state of a system, which there's no transfer of heater mass compression. Okay. Would you like to fill in for me on the 11, and I'll get out of here? Don, I'll do it. Okay. That'll be awful. Yeah, because I throw around the word adiabatic, like every day. You know what it means. I do, but seriously, he's just looking up the glossary from the National Weather Service. That's what I do. Wait, wait. That's what he does. It'll be weather weather. Hey, I'm playing golf Saturday in a minute tournament. Oh, my good. Where? Here? Yeah. Of course, she just gave you the weekend weather. She said there's a chance of rain. It's incredible. It was Sunday night. Thank you, buddy. It's incredible. We thank you for listening and calling in. And being part of the show, we're on camera. I never said that again. I never said that again. I never said that again. I think it's a jack, and I think it's a shame on the other side. The glass. He's not even listening to the clothes. It's amazing. But the check does clear. That's why it doesn't matter. How? How? To the base? Tracy, thank you. We'll talk to you tomorrow. So long, everybody. We love you, Tracy. Take that. From Chicago. Oh, it's sweating.
