Mike Moore media in our studios today Jim Burnett executive director of the Eden Chamber of Commerce hey Jim welcome back hey Mike thank you it's a pleasure to be here thank you so much we have our monthly podcast the third Wednesday of the month and yep that's where we are today so bring us up to date on chamber activities well Mike it has been busy a busy month and it's gonna be eat an even busier month this coming month I believe so yeah we've had a lot going on we had our coffee this past coffee at the boys and girls club with United Way Casey Vincent and and Pete hosted that for us over there at the boys and girls club we had a great turnout and I will tell you this too we had I have been talking with a gentleman who actually is working for a company in Charlotte but he has a house in this in the county and he is planning on opening a UPS store and he has he has told he announced to everyone at the coffee that the UPS store will be open anyway but he's going through the back he's I think he's got most everything done except a background check now and the final the UPS franchise company has to okay his location as well so I think he has a location in mind but they have to approve it so it's probably going to be he said probably April before it's open but I think that'll be a great great asset to to our community as well certainly well so UPS store coming to Eden yes yes absolutely first one in the county first one in the county yes absolutely another first yes so so yeah that was a that was a great announcement at our coffee and the next coffee is at Morehead High School Christy Henshey's been working with us and we're excited to go there so that's open to everybody so please come out and learn about more about the high school and what's going on there that's some great things going on so we're pleased to be able to go there yeah when are those coffees Jim the coffees are the second Tuesday of the month at 8 a.m. okay second Tuesday yeah usually they last about 45 to 50 minutes something like we give people an opportunity to the network talk and everything and then we have a little short program and have the businesses make any kind of announcements and that's when he the last one when he made his UPS announcement yeah okay good yeah so yeah and we I think hopefully everyone has seen in the Eden zone journal or somewhere on our website that Walmart is our member of the month Hazel Keith the manager there we got with her and got the picture and done and so our board voted to name them the member of the month for this for the month of September okay congratulations to Walmart yeah yeah and Hazel Keith yeah absolutely we had announced Mike that the the Ridge deli at RCC was going to have a ribbon cutting on September the 9th Jarrett Nockamp who is the the owner of that that business is really focused on opening the one in Eden so he has delayed that ribbon cutting there and he's working diligently to get the ridge at Eden open and we have scheduled a ribbon cutting for that one on October the 1st and that's the old chaney location so again I think people have been wanting something to come there so Jared is going to open that up and initially going to be open I think for breakfast and lunch and maybe something later on too so but we're really excited to have him come in to come into our community as well we certainly are yeah they've already done extensive remodeling and getting that ready it's gonna be very nice yes I think it will like like you and I talked about a little bit early we sort of I sort of peeped in the window to see what was going on he where he was remodeling so it's gonna look great it is yeah so October 1st official opening of the ridge in Eden that's right at 1045 I think he'll be he told me he will do the ribbon cutting at 1045 and he'll be open for business at 11 o'clock all righty so I may see you there for all right that's right that's right right in line absolutely and at the same day at six o'clock in the evening on Washington Street the boardroom 640 is going to have a ribbon cutting they will be officially opening this is Jennifer Clark and she is opening this business for meetings and actually small office space as well someone needs an office space for from time to time or something like that and in and small meetings so that'll be at six o'clock on Washington Street and we're looking forward to that business being joining us as well oh sure that's great and let's see the next one is October the 16th which is the electric vehicle charging station in the city parking lot the city got a grant from a settlement actually from the Volkswagen I think a peep folks company and put that electric vehicle charging station in so please see that coming to yeah you're right October is going to be just with the ribbon cuttings alone just with ribbon go well just wait we've got more coming to so yeah we've got lots of events but you know let me let me mention to that we we've had a couple of past events our grasshoppers events from members that was a great turnout at the stadium in Greensboro for the for the ballpark we were we had the deck over in left field and we had probably about 75 to 80 of our members present and we had fixed a white t-shirt for everyone with it with a chamber logo on it so we had the sea of white over in left field so but it was a great time for family of the family was family oriented and great networking opportunity and we just socialization over there and then you enjoyed the ballgame - sure yeah yeah and they're great fireworks afterward as well so yeah yeah it was a big it was a very very big evening yeah we really enjoyed that okay all right I'd already mentioned the coffee that we had in the past but we also had a call we we had the coffee we're having another coffee next month like I said at at more head but when we had this past month at the roasted bean was a great turnout as well it's not a real large area but it was packed with folks so we had probably 30 35 people in there so great turnout and the carpenia said fix good food for us as well so it was looking forward to having more of those oh sure yeah that's a nice place to yeah yeah let's see also we've got I'll mention something a couple things the city's doing as well but before I get into that I'll mention our temptations in the garden is going to be October the 10th where we will have different restaurant vendors there to have samples of their their their food and so on so everybody can come to those tickets are still available so that's October 10th to be at the farmhouse and so we're looking forward to everyone coming out to that and enjoying that that's a big big event for us and we really appreciate people coming up like they're plenty tickets so please sign up okay all right good now that's a lot of what we've got going on also you know and we heard last night about Riverfest coming up so we Cindy always does a fantastic job with that so we just please that's this coming Friday and Saturday Friday evening and Saturday all day and you and I both heard Cindy say yesterday with with Tabitha Brown there and a lot of interest in that she would not be surprised if we have over 30,000 people but at this event that'll be a record it really will and and you know this is a this event is really one of the well-known ones in the state as well she has done a fantastic job with this with what she does and the boat she brings in and everything so 21 years for this is that what it is 21 21 that is fantastic yeah yeah that is that's good it's just absolutely great and and she has predicted good weather for this too so we're expecting that as well you know the weather is looking perfect for Friday and Saturday for Riverfest yes yes absolutely good temperatures and and the rain will be gone by the that's exactly right yeah we're ready all right and she's also had hosting on October the third the groaning gathered at at Marc Bishish Place at the Merkenau building on the walkway there beside the canal and now unfortunately folks can't get any tickets for that that one's been sold out I think it sells out right away quickly you very quickly so I'm looking forward to attending that one as well so you got your ticket in time I did I did you've got two for those if you don't you're in trouble that's right right okay let me mention two that one of the things that the three chambers in the county does is to put on a political forum so we have invited the candidates that are any state office or county office and other offices within the state to a session at the Advanced Technology Building on at RCC on September the 30th at 6 p.m. Monday September the 30th at 6 p.m. and there'll be a few questions asked of each one and we will group them according to the offices there that they're running for and that the questions will be specific to those offices and that type of thing and moderator is Hannah Jeffries who is from Rockingham County actually from Eden but she is now working for WFW 2 TV 2 oh okay so she's gonna be the moderator for that so we look forward to a very informative session and we'll have some booklets for the public on each of the candidates and what what they what they send in to us to their write up and their explanation of their platforms things like that yeah so that's a great way to be an informed voter it get to that candidates forum right exactly and that is a couple of weeks before the early voting so I think early voting starts October the 17th I believe you're right yeah so yeah so that's that's exactly right come out get this information find out more about the candidates mm-hmm one of the other things excuse me that the three chambers do together is to put on a program called leadership Rockingham and I think I've mentioned this before but this is a program in which folks can sign up for and we spend time introducing them to the leaders and government officials across the county we spend a day in each of the cities yeah and this is something that leadership Rockingham has been going on for a while too it has I have I'm not sure exactly how long but I do have some notebooks back to 1993 in while so I know it's been going on for that long but what I wanted to tell everyone our day in Eden is October the 9th okay that is the second Wednesday of October we're gonna start out at Nestle Purina and see Will Steiner will be there with his plant manager and talk to us about Nestle Purina what they're doing a small tour will be going on with their service breakfast and then we'll move on from there to Duke Energy Site the combined cycle plant and talk with Doug Julie in there then we're going to the high school and talk about the animage table we will go to the city and talk with the leadership there at the city and some of the things that are going on we're gonna sort of try to highlight Cindy and some of her of Cindy Adams some of her events and Ken with Ken White with the Main Street program and from there we're going to visit the hospital and then we'll we talk about reactive health care at the hospital then we're going to see John Dabs and Debbie Dabs in pro therapy at the chiropractic center and talk about proactive health care and what can be done then we'll end up on Washington Street visiting some of the Main Street businesses so we're looking forward to a great day of visiting not only businesses but leaders and helping folks understand more about what's going on in Eden and the businesses that are there that are supporting Eden and of course I'm a retiree of Duke Energy so I'm real excited that we're going to be able to go there as well yes okay leadership Rockingham a lot of people involved in that over the years and we're looking at people getting more involved and learning about what's going on around our county and maybe some future leaders there absolutely absolutely that's that's what we we've envisioned this as is this these are our future leaders so to introduce them to what's going on and and the people that are running everything running is the bad word but leading everything now is is is what we what we strive to do sure yeah okay all right so we've got a lot going on Mike wow you really have so real excited that we'll be able to get people come out talk to each other and socialize a little bit network a little bit and let's let's let's see what's going on yeah collaborating communicating networking absolutely that's the best way to find out you know Facebook and a lot of social media good ways to keep up with things but there's nothing better than talking to someone face-to-face and I really really support that so I understand that completely sure so so again that's what we've got going on this month and coming up so I'm real pleased about that Mike and we always welcome people to to come into the chamber and talk to us we've got two great ladies that work there Deborah Blizzard and Karen Chacon friendly voices friendly faces very very helpful so please come in talk to us if you have any needs any and find out what's going on but also you can go to our website you can sign it for our emails if you haven't already done so and I encourage everyone with our business to be sure and look local first and see what see if we don't have what you need here and so I appreciate the time today Jim Burnett I am the executive director of the Eden Chamber of Commerce and join us at our website at the Eden chamber.com or our Facebook page Mike okay all right now the great pride another great podcast thank you Jim Burnett okay I'll see you at Riverfest absolutely absolutely many times probably yeah yeah I'll be on that stage you'll jump on up with me yes and you know you mentioned just a quick overview there about Tabitha Brown coming back to town and she's gonna be really busy on on Saturday several different events but I know the mayor has a special presentation and some things going on yes on on that Nestle Purina stage at 230 Saturday so don't miss that for sure absolutely not no that's that's gonna be special yeah okay thank you Jim see you there thank you Mike see you there
