Rockingham County schools are on a two-hour delay this morning because of road conditions. Rockingham Community College will be opening at 10. Heavy rains closed at least a dozen roads across the county last night. There was a water rescue around 7 at Wolf Island Road off business 29 near Wake Forest Drive, Reedsville. Everyone is OK. 9-1-1 told me multiple agencies responded. Flood warning in effect until 2 today along the Dan River in the Wentworth area causing minor flooding. At 6 this morning, Dan Valley Road and River Road in Madison were closed. Dan Valley was at 19.6 feet and rising. Bankful stage is 18 feet. Flood stage 19 feet. This crest compares to a previous crest of 19.6 feet in February 2003. Here's an exclusive report on last night's Eden City Council meeting. Agreeing with the Planning Board, unanimous approval to rezone approximately 16 acres on the west side of Summit Road owned by Matthew Warren from residential 20th to residential mixed use. It already has city services. Three residents who have a joining property spoke during a public hearing. John Denny, his daughter, Tanya Williams and Patrick Raimi concerned about traffic and what will be built, specifically mentioning opposition to low income housing. Kelly Stolz, Planning and Community Development Director said the property can be used for single family housing, but no subdivision plans have been submitted. A public hearing to annex property at 733 Summit Road continued from last month's meeting was postponed again until October. Trinity Wesleyan Education Center was recognized for 25 years. It opened in September 1999. Under the leadership of Pastor Wayne Johnson, Tara Flint is Director and Assistant Pastor. It's the largest childcare center in Rockingham County. A new building will be opening soon for their after school program. Trinity students led the Pledge of Allegiance at last night's meeting. Lisa Goldsworthy, Friends of Eden Animal Rescue, spoke on behalf of Remember Me Thursday, September 26th, shining a light on orphaned pets waiting to be adopted. Mary Ivey, D.A.R., Daughters of the American Revolution, was recognized for Constitution Week, September 17th through 23rd. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the drafting of the United States Constitution. In other business, Debbie Dyer was appointed to the Community Appearance Commission. Cindy Adams, Eden Marketing and Special Events Manager, had an update on the city's 21st annual signature event Riverfest this week, Friday evening and all day Saturday in uptown Eden. Vendor spaces are sold out more than 150. She's predicting a record turnout 30,000 people. Three shuttle buses are running every 30 minutes from NC 14 and King's Highway. Dyer's plumbing has a new family fund event at Riverfest. It's a rubber duck drop stopped by their booth at Fire Station No. 1 on Henry Street, first place $500 cash, second place $250 gas card, third place $100 cash, tickets only $5 each or $5 for $20. The Food and Drug Administration has given Apple its blessing to employ software in its new AirPods Pro 2, allowing the AirPods to double as both a hearing aid device and a listening device for people without hearing issues. The AirPods Pro 2 qualify as a mobile medical application. The Bores Head Meat Processing Plant in Jarrett, Virginia, linked to the deaths of nine people from Listeria infections, has been closed indefinitely, the company said. The company also faces multiple lawsuits connected to the Listeria outbreak. The Home Depot has settled a lawsuit brought by Los Angeles County, California, claiming the big box retailer has engaged in deceptive pricing. Born September 18th, 1897. He died in 1933. The father of country music. I think I labeled someone else with that yesterday, but he is the father of country music. I want to play this Jimmy Rogers song because of his impact on country music. I had a friend named Ramlin Bob, who used to steal, gamble and rob.
