You're listening to a Dom and Jeremy podcast, your boys in the morning on Mix 100. When my son turned 21 or 22, somewhere in that, he was early 20s, I realized it's like, you know, your kid has a birthday, you can't really buy him, you know, stuff you bought him when they were 8, 10, 12. So I was like, I want some new tradition for my son's birthday. So I started like every other year, I would take him on a, what I call the magical mystery tour and I have encouraged other parents who have kids who start reaching these ages to do this because I've always had so much fun with it where I would have him meet me at the airport with a bag, carry on bag and he had no idea where we were going and then I would have something planned and he was always involved, like a sporting event and then something else and we would fly to various places and it was just, it was a great bonding adventure. Well since he moved to Hawaii and I moved to the East Coast, it's like, it's been more difficult for us to get together as you might imagine. And then COVID head and so we had all these years where we didn't do any magical mystery tours and he finally called me up a few months ago. He said, look, I'm a fly out there to see you and I'm taking you on one for your birthday. Nice. Yeah, I'm telling, I keep telling Jeremy's like, look, when Reed gets to be a certain age father son trip like that, oh my God, it's such a special, it's such a dude. So all I knew is that we were going to be driving and he plugged in the GPS thing in the car. So I couldn't see the destination, but I saw that was going to take close to eight hours to drive. I was like, what the hell could this be? Where could it be? Where could it be? And if we finally cross the border into Florida, I'm thinking, wait a minute, he can't be taking me to Disney because neither he nor I are really, no, God bless people who love their Disney. That's just not really us. And I was like, would he do that? Would he take me to Disney? Maybe Epcot, I guess, which is fun. Would he do that? It took until we were within 20 miles of our destination before I figured it out. My boy took me to the Kennedy Space Center where all of the launches and, you know, the NASA and SpaceX and Blue Origins and all of those companies, they do all of their launches. And I didn't know that they had like a touristy type of place with all sorts of displays and tours and it was a blast, if you're part in the pond. I mean, it was such a hoot and we spent a couple of days there and got to meet with an astronaut. Look, Jeremy, hold up a picture for you. Let's see. Sign photo from an astronaut. We spent, it was just like eight of us in a room with this astronaut for a while and answered all of our questions and it was just nice. So for people who have sent me a lot of Mindbender club members have written to me say, where'd you go? Where'd you go? Where'd you go? We went to the Kennedy Space Center and if you're a space freak at all, what a fun place to take your kids. Did you get to put a space suit on? We did all sorts of other, we did like a simulation of like launching in a space shuttle. I did not wear a space suit. There is a thing you can do, Jeremy, that's a five hour like astronaut training thing where you spend five hours and they train you to be an astronaut. Well, that's neat. We did not do that one because we were doing some other stuff, but it's so anyway, that was the answer. We went and did that. And on Thursday night, we drove into Orlando, it's about an hour away and we went to a comedy show with C. Gary Goldman. Have you ever seen him live? I have not. Oh my God, it was one of the funniest comedy shows I've ever seen. Dominic had an interesting observation. I wanted to throw this out there to you. We were sitting there about, I don't know, seven rows back center and just laughing. It was a great time and he leaned over to me at one point and he goes, you know, you never want to be too close at a comedian stand up show, like first, second row. He says, because then you almost kind of feel an obligation that you have to be a good audience member because they're looking right at you. So I don't know. Do you have to do like the fake laugh if it's not that funny because they're interacting with you? It's got to be tough to be up on the front row. I thought it was maybe because you become a target at that point, you know, like, and that definitely. You there, the Hawaiian shirt, you there in the space on it, right? I would say the standout thing from the trip, though, by the way, and this is the third time it has happened to me and I would love to know if some of our listeners have ever had this happen to them for the third time in my life. I was part of a hotel evacuation in the middle of the night. This is the third time it's happened. Fire alarms started going off in the hotel at 2 a.m. When the whole hotel had to stumble outside and stand in the parking lot for about an hour as a couple of big fire trucks roared up and it took about an hour before they gave the all clear and went in and that's horrible. You know, what's funny is there in your punderpants here to see people standing around and parking lot in the middle of the night after you've been evacuated from hotels. Okay. So did you know that there are people who wear matching pajamas? Sure there are. Yeah. Absolutely. Is that you? No, but yeah. Yeah. I know. Nick Knack's got like a full suit. She does? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. She'll throw on in the winter, you know. So we've saw three people in the parking lot who had the matching top and bottom PJs. Awesome. And I didn't know I just know like mostly patterned stuff or whatever, but I didn't know anybody more those anymore. It's hilarious. I learned you cannot ask the firefighters what happened because when it was all done and they were packing up, I sawn it over to one of them and I was like, just out of curiosity since we were kicked out of our hotel. Why do you wake me up? What the hell happened? And this firefighter bless his heart, but he was actually pissed that I asked. He was like, sir, I cannot tell you what it was all about. And then he went back to what he was doing. And I'm like, well, that's rude. Okay. Wonder why? I've never heard that. The next morning I went up to the front desk. I was talking to one of the managers just striking up a casual conversation. He goes, well, it was an issue with the hotel and it was not a fire, but it could have been a fire and we have now fixed it. And I had to spend another night in that hotel. And if you don't think that doesn't get into your hair and they're awake, gas leak instantly comes to mind. They're so vague. There's like, well, it wasn't a fire, but it could have been a fire. Huh? Really? What happened? And why don't these things happen at like two in the afternoon? Why do they have to always be at two a.m.? What kind of PJs did you have on? You know what? Listen, I know that I'm going to get the stink eye from a lot of people. But my son and I, like most people, actually took the time to get up, put our jeans on or shorts, put on a t-shirt or whatever. And I put like a baseball cap on, slipped, you know, sandals on or whatever it went outside. We didn't go racing to the door. And right. You took time to put pants on. That's smart move. Smart move. Anyway, three, zero, three, six, nine, one, 16, four, it was another spectacular magical mystery tour. And again, if you've, if you're the parents of like 15, 16, 17 year olds and you're wondering, you're like, Oh, what can I do for them when they get to this age? These mystery trips places. I love it. I love the idea. I love the idea. Much fun. I can't even stand it. (dramatic music)
