Here's a look at some of the news that's happened across the state in the last couple of days that we've been following for you at KELY. US-95, open again in both directions near per rump, closed much of the day following a crash between two semis, one of which was carrying 31,000 pounds of lithium batteries, except the roadway almost the whole day. Second such an incident involving transportation of lithium batteries in the last couple of months. Now the incident last month saw I-15 South of Las Vegas shuttered for almost two days. Now the Southern Nevada Congressional delegation has introduced legislation, the Thermal Runaway Reduction Act, trying to reduce the potential for thermal runaway during the transportation of lithium ion batteries. The legislation includes requiring impact testing per lithium ion batteries. And it will require the pipeline and hazardous material safety administration to set regulations that mark a maximum charge of 30% per lithium ion battery separate ground transportation. That's pretty much what they also have to do for air transportation. Utility regulators have denied a request by NB Energy to raise the basic service charge, which is Northern Nevada customers by 175% by $28.80 a month according to Amy Alonso at the Nevada Independent. The request would have increased Northern Nevada's basic service charge from $16.50 to $45.30 a month would make it the highest in the US by a considerable margin, that from the state's Bureau of Consumer Protection. Now, NB Energy said it would level out rates. It would simultaneously have to cost customers paper, a kilowatt hour for electricity. They said it would result in no net increase in average customers' opponents. And it would penalize for people who conserve energy or utilize solar. Controversy around the Nevada Democrat Assemblywoman Selena LaRue Hatch, she pushed false claims against school choice in the state, specifically regarding the Opportunity Scholarship Program. That designed a service low income children. In an interview with Channel 2 in Reno, LaRue Hatch claimed she made a mistake while she stated with the KNPR in Las Vegas that the majority of individuals who received opportunity scholarships are from wealthy families. Well, it was fact checked and revealed that families who received these scholarships earn well below the medium income of the state. She said she meant to speak about national school choice. KNPR specifically asked her about Nevada's Opportunity Scholarships. She never mentioned national school choice policies at all in the interview. Now, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has issued a ruling in a case in Arizona that could have a ripple effect on law enforcement in Nevada. Maricopa County was posting mug shots and details on the internet regarding arrests. Ninth Circuit said it was unconstitutional to post those mug shots. Maricopa County appealing. Well, now Sheriff Brad Pope over in Lyon County says he sought legal opinion from the District Attorney's Office. They don't share as much information as Maricopa County did. Still, he said they're not going to do anything with it. We talked to White Pine County Sheriff Scott Henroyd. He said it was the first he'd heard of the decision. They're going to look at it, how it might affect the posting of blotter reports and mug shots. Big week in White Pine County, as it is homecoming, the varsity volleyball team won on Monday against Adleson Academy of Las Vegas 2 to nothing. Tomorrow, Thursday, Girls Golf will be at Elko for a tournament there. Cross country will also be in Elko on Friday. Home games for volleyball, they will be taking on Green Valley Christian, beginning at 2.30 in the gym. And football, be taking on Green Valley Christian. Hopefully, they will get the first win of the season. That'll be a six o'clock contest on Friday night. And on Saturday, the soccer teams will be at home facing West Wendover.
