As much as I hate to say it, this story might be in defense of clutter. On the weekend, I was putting my garage back together, at last, after kitchen renovations. It was full of bins of kitchen stuff, as well as bits of lumber from the Renault, tiles, paint cans, it's been driving me crazy. In order to make room for some of the things I needed to preserve from the Renault, I had to pull stuff out of the rafters, like a box, with nothing to indicate the contents. Turns out it was a doll cradle, a pretty old one. My daughters would have used it, and it would have been old then. Well, I said to my wife, "Time to use this, or get rid of it." So I put it together for my two-year-old granddaughter, who loved it more than I could have imagined. For my five-year-old grandson, there were toy tractors and combines. They'd have been given to my son by his gito, and they'd been gathering dust on a shelf. He played with them all afternoon. Sometimes, as much as I hate to admit it, hanging on to things just in case they'll be handy in 20 years can be worth it.
