Fine Cut with Alyson: Ellen Birkett Morris

Alyson and Ellen Birkett Morris (Author of Lost Girls, Abide and Surrender) discuss a scene from the White Rock episode of Pamela Adlon’s show, Better Things (Season 2, Episode 9, see a trailer here). Pamela plays Sam, a single mother of three girls. In this episode she takes them to Canada for a magical visit with her aunt and uncle. During the visit secrets are revealed and the youngest daughter, Duke, sees a ghost the locals call, "The Sad Lady.” In the scene we discuss, Duke acknowledges and says good-bye to the ghost. This is a scene Ellen has watched, considered and written about. You can read her Newsweek essay here. At first Ellen wasn’t sure why this episode affected her so deeply but after repeated viewings and reflection she was able to understand it and appreciate it in a new way.

It’s a beautiful scene and conversation, join us.

And she also wrote about it for Newsweek, here.
