Patriots Get Embarrassed By Jets on Thursday Night
All right so I don't know if that was the low point of my Patriots fandom. I think last year that game against the LA Chargers, that sixth nothing game. I think it was the beginning of December. I think that was the low point but that was pretty bad Thursday night. That was pretty bad and it just kind of goes to show how much things have changed around here and in the NFL. Patriots lose. They get embarrassed by their rivals and a team that they've had as much as the Patriots have been bad over the past few years, a team that they've had their numbers still. If it wasn't for the Jets, the Patriots would basically have no wins in the post-Tom Brady era outside that you know a couple years outside that first year with Mac Jones. But as bad as the Patriots have been over the past few years, they've pretty much been able to beat the Jets and yeah that's no longer the case. They can no longer rely on getting two free wins from the Jets anymore. The Jets embarrassed them on Thursday night football 24 to 3 and again what I would say is I don't know if it's the low point but it definitely took any glimmer a hope that the first two games would have told you. They were unprepared. They didn't show up. Clearly the coaching staff looked like a rookie coaching staff on a Thursday night which is not usually good. Doesn't usually bode well that spot for the rookie head coaches. Not to mention first-time offensive coordinator. Also you know defensive coordinator who's never had the job before and it was just a bad night all around. I can't think of anything good to say about the game from the Patriots standpoint. Maybe perhaps it was just a bad a bad night and they're closer to what they were the first two weeks but there's still some consistent problems that have happened in all three games. Number one and most important is the offensive line is just a train wreck and you know the passing game isn't good but it's hard to judge the quarterback play when there is no absolutely no time for either quarterback because Drake May gets in at the end of the game there either quarterback to make a play. Jacob Kobe Brissette is basically out there being a sacrificial lamb at this point. Nothing the Patriots really aren't paying him enough to get murdered out there. It's just a matter of time before he gets hurt and you're gonna have to subject your rookie quarterback to playing behind that offensive line and you know what implications that could be. Which it seems like it's gonna happen anyway. It seems like May is earmarked to start week five but yeah I mean between the offensive line these receivers can't get open. These receivers have done absolutely nothing. I mean it's still the same problems they've had over the past few years with there's just not enough separation. They have no athletes in the receiving core. The second round pick that they just made Jalen Polk. He scored a nice touchdown last week but again he really hasn't been much of a factor in any of the three weeks and you're sort of wondering what the ceiling is on him. Obviously just a rookie hard to judge but I haven't seen anything that really stands out to me. He does look slow I will say that. Not exactly explosive speed. DiMario Douglas is the only guy that you can kind of say is okay when that guy gets the ball he's a little bit of a playmaker but he's again he's not good enough to say to be a true number one receiver. He's a third guy at best on on a good team. Yeah so the quarterback play obviously hasn't been great from Jacobi Brissette but hard to really judge him because he's really not the problem out there. He's throwing to a bunch of bums for a lack of a better word. He's got he's got no real talent out there and then his offensive line is trying to get him killed. So I don't really know what they can really get out of this year. It seems like the win against the Bengals really did just that was sort of a cock tease it really was. You know they outplayed they outplayed the Bengals that first week played hard against Seattle last week lost a game that they should have that they should have won ultimately but man did they didn't they didn't show up on Thursday night so the one saving grace was that okay they may not have the most talent but at least they're gonna play hard well that didn't that didn't happen on Thursday and now they're going to San Francisco where they're gonna get their doors blown off and then come back home to play a game against Miami a division opponent an opponent that doesn't have their starting quarterback so sort of vulnerable but I don't know I don't know if this team can take advantage of it. You know it seems like the team is going to be starting Drake May that week but I wouldn't do it I would do it they get Drake May into this game for a few minutes a few minutes at the end of the game that last drive he goes 4 for 8 sort of gets them up the field didn't necessarily look entirely impressive obviously getting thrown in and garbage time you can't really judge him for that but gets sacked twice I believe he took another hit right after he got rid of the ball almost through an interception on the first pit on the first play because he was probably so paranoid that he was going to get pressured but yeah no I would not throw Drake May out there if I were them I don't think it's going to help his development if he's just out there running around like a chicken with his head cut off every single time he snaps the ball he has no real receivers to rely on so he doesn't have the veteran guys that I mean Kendrick Bourne is probably gonna end up coming back so that's somebody that could maybe help in terms of just being the veteran guy in that huddle but I just I don't know I wouldn't start I wouldn't put Drake May I wouldn't subject Drake May to this obviously at some point he's gonna have to learn to deal with it anyway but the offensive line is so bad that you know you it's it's it's it's it's a joke it's not an NFL offensive line the fact that they went into this off see went into the season without a left tackle really on the team is unacceptable you know and the one guy that they signed that Okafor I'm not gonna pronounce his first name I can never really say it's a chakwama Okafor they sign him and move him over to left tackle and now he's after two games he basically leaves the reservation so he's gone so that was their big off season acquisition and he leaves after two games and now you've got a rookie over there they the Vadarian low is hurt so they move a rookie Cade Wallace who they took this past year who's a guard again not a guy that they drafted to be a tackle and it took a couple holding penalties they were it was a complete mess if they weren't given up pressures they were taken holding calls they haven't been able to line up right since the start of preseason it's just it's just a mess all around and it's sort of one thing where it's like you take a kid at number three overall is to be your starter not well to be your future quarterback and you don't think you have to invest any money into the offensive line that should have been the number one priority over the off season should have been get a get a at least functional offensive line didn't have to be great but because really no one has a great offensive line these days except for maybe you know I like the lions I like the Eagles is offensive line Cowboys offense line but other than that though I feel like anytime I turn the game a game on quarterbacks running around everywhere but this is ridiculous I mean Jeko Ybersat was just sitting duck out there and it's just a matter of time before he gets hurt if if they don't bench him before that which it seems like there's a bit of a power struggle going on between the head coach and the offensive coordinator over who is the quarterback it seems like Mayo wants to put May in I think he feels like he's being limit his team is limited by Jeko Ybersat and I don't think the offensive coordinator really trusts Drake May at this point in time and he wants to have him sit and watch and I tend to lean on the side of the offensive coordinator because this is yeah I don't think subjecting Drake May to this is is gonna be beneficial to his development at all the offensive line it play has to at least improve greatly before I throw him out there because otherwise what's this is gonna be there's no point there really is no point you're not gonna know how to judge him when he's out there getting chased around by a defensive lineman all game so yeah I if I were them I'd go out I'd get a veteran quarterback I don't know how they'd be able to make that work because they already have three quarterbacks you probably have to wave Joe Milton to put him on the practice squad or you'd have to wave somebody on the roster so you can you know fit for four quarterbacks on the roster and I just don't know how that's gonna work so it seems like they're in a little bit of a pickle with the quarterback position and with and with the offensive line because they're not gonna be able to really in how much are they really gonna be able to improve the offensive line in the middle of the year but yeah that was that was just terrible game all around nothing nothing really to say anything good about it took and it takes all it takes all the steam out of everything that they did well the first two games to which is such this which such a shame obviously they have a disappointing loss that that second week that really should piss you off as a Patriots fan because I mean as bad as they looked on Thursday they could be they could be two in one if if not for basically blowing the game at the end at the end of the game you know but at least they played hard they dominated in the run game and you know there was at least something to build off of coming off that loss but this this game is absolutely nothing and now they're gonna go out San Francisco and basically be a cream puff layup win for the San Francisco 49ers so I wouldn't even really worry too much about next week's game other than it might be Jokowi bersettes final game as a starting quarterback because it seems like they've got it earmarked that trick may is gonna play week five and I wouldn't subject him to that because because of how bad this offensive line is but I think it that after next week they'll probably be one in three or you've pretty much pencil them in for one in three and I think it's gonna lead to a lot of impatience and perhaps over reaction and I think that in order to get some juice they're gonna put Drake May in and I don't I don't I don't think that's the right decision like I said I would go out there I would get a starting quarterback I would get a veteran quarterback and I would stick with Jokowi bersette until this offensive line can be just a little bit competent and perhaps maybe after Kendrick Borne has gotten back into the lineup and added some veteran leadership or not necessarily save veteran leadership on on the offensive side of the ball but just a veteran that you can rely on because these receivers aren't getting open as well but yeah that was just that was not a good not a good showing on Thursday night nothing really else to talk about other than that so I'll probably follow up after NFL Sun this NFL Sunday see you then
