Pray for the Bushi in Mayotte
Jotchra project presents unreached to the day as we travel to Mayot Island off the coast of Madagascar to pray for the 87,000 bushy people. The bushy people move there in the latter half of the 19th century and these immigrants and plantation workers still live there today. The older generations live according to their traditional ways, such as following the Islamic calendar and structuring their day around their five daily prayer times. However, the younger generations who've been educated in the French secular system now question some of the group's traditions and seek for things of the West such as material wealth, elastic moral code, and a different manner of dress. Nevertheless, they proudly identify as Islamic. Most of them, however, still look more to spirits to help with everyday needs or problems. To change one's religion is to change one's identity, which is painful, especially in a culture that focuses on the group. Christians who are open to God working through power encounters could help facilitate a new understanding of the spirit world. Would you please pray that this people group considers their ways as the prophet Haggai recommends and turn to the Lord. Unfortunately, few follow Jesus today among the bushy people, pray that they would find each other for needed instruction in the faith. Thanks, I'm Mark Gordon.
