You don't stop, right through them, and I'll meet you by their rock. So, Paul, you've heard my voice about I've brought two friends along. Today is National One Hit Wonder Day. One Hit Wonders. It can happen in every aspect of life, but today it's all about the music. Now, everyone has their own list of their top one hit wonders. Yeah, we did a great thing of them, so we made up our own list. Now, we're going to play clips of our top 10 one hit wonders throughout the show. As you can tell, we start off at number 10 with "Rapper's Delight" by Sugar Hill Gang. Alright, now let's go see what happened in entertainment in the world in 1975 on September the 25th. The number one album was "Between the Lines" by Janice Ian. David Bowie had the number one song with fame. [music] Ronnie Mills sat back at the number one country song with daydreams about night things. [music] The number one book was "Rag Time" by E. El Dorro, and the top movie today in 1975 was "Three Days of the Condor." A CIA agent, he finds his co-workers all dead. Now he has to outsmart those who didn't until he knows who he can trust. Stars Robert Redward, Redford, Fade Dunaway, Cliff Robertson, and Mack von Seydrum. [music] Our number nine one hit wonder, "Stacey's Mom" by "Fountains of Wayne." Alright, what happened in the world on September the 25th? 1513, Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez di Balboa, he landed on the Atlantic side of Panama. Now, Balboa and 190 of his men decided to take a hike. Today, after 25 days of hiking through jungle and swamps and crossing rivers, became the first Europeans to see the Pacific Ocean. So out of Balboa, nowhere to cross where the distance between the Atlantic and the Pacific was the shortest, communication error. See, when Balboa and his men started hiking, they had some native guides. They wanted them to show them where they could find gold. The guides thought they wanted to show them how they could cross the land bridge. In 1690 in Boston, Brinjeman Harris, he published the first newspaper in the American colonies, called it the public occurrence. Now, after that first issue hit the straits, the governor of Massachusetts, he didn't like it at all. He didn't want anybody writing about what he was doing. So he had that paper shut down. So Benjamin Harris, not only did he have the first newspaper, he had the first one that got shut down too. I guess he had that, right? 1789, the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution was submitted to the state's ratification, came back two years later, stratified. 1844, Canada beat the United States by 23 runs on that first North American cricket match. United States decided cricket was a stupid sport and we haven't played a sense. 1878, a British doctor named Charles Drysdale, he had a letter printed in the London Times newspaper. It was the first time ever that anybody warned it got the health benefits or the health trouble with smoking. Yeah, nobody believed the guy. World War I in 1915 in France, the battle of Loose was fought. Great Britain, they responded to Germany when Germany used chemical weapons. So Great Britain, they launched a bunch of chlorine gas. But the wind blew the chlorine back onto the British trips, resulted in 59,000 British casualties and 26,000 German casualties. 1919, US President Woodrow Wilson, he suffered a physical breakdown in Pueblo, Colorado, basically had a stroke. His health never recovered at all, but his wife hid it for the rest of his term. 1981, Sandra Day O'Connor, she was sworn in as the first woman United States Supreme Court justice. 1983, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher is Bob Forsch. He threw a no hitter against the Montreal Expos. That was payback for that cricket game. [MUSIC] How many of you actually know that tub thumping is actually the name of that Chumba Womison? Well, we have it at number eight. All right, let's go do some birthdays. [MUSIC] All righty, who I was born on September the 25th. Well, we'll start off with Barbara Walters. She was born in Boston in 1929. 1976, she became the first woman to anchor a network newscast. Barbara though, she's most known for all her TV specials. She interviewed everybody, politicians, heads of state, entertainers, athletes, any public figure. Her most watched special was in 1999 when she interviewed Monica Lewinsky. Now that is still the most watched interview in TV history. 74 million people watched it. Now after 65 years of groundbreaking journalism, Barbara, nope, she ruined it all. Yeah, she created a TV show called The View. Barbara, she had one daughter from her second husband. She married her third husband twice, but neither one of them stuck. She barbed out in 2022 at 93 years old. Actor Michael Douglas, he's 80 years old. He was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1944. His dad was famous actor Kirk Douglas. Michael made a name for himself though when he produced the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Yeah, I got a best picture Oscar for it. He won a best acting Oscar for Wall Street. He's not slowing down either. No, he's actually starring in a movie called Blood Knot that's being filmed right now. Douglas, he had one son from his first wife, married his second wife in 2000. They have a son and a daughter. She is actress Katherine Zeta-Jones, who is 55 years old today. Yeah, she was born on September the 25th also, but in 1969 and in Swansea, Wales. Now, she won her Oscar for the movie Chicago. She really hit in the movie Mask of Zorro, then Entrapment, traffic, America's Sweet Arts, Ocean's 12th. Now, you can tell that she's just a cool girl though. Before she got married to Michael, it was around 1995. The British tabloids, they were just following her around relentlessly. So finally, she came up publicly and just said, "I drink, I swear, and I like sex. What else do you want from me?" Well, that was the end of the story. Now, if you're wondering how two actors, 25 years apart in age, got together, well, they were introduced by Danny DeVito. Cheryl Tiggs, she's 77. She was born in Breckenridge, Minnesota in 1947. She's considered America's first supermodel, her blue bikini poster back in 1978. It was a worldwide bestseller. She was the first model on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. She's on the first two covers, actually. Cheryl, she's divorced four times. She had a son from her third husband and twin boys from her fourth husband. Now, she is a very successful businesswoman. Back in 1980, she was the first model to go retail. She lost a signature line of clothing and accessory. Throughout the '80s, it sold $1 billion worth of goods. They could not come up with any anti-war lyrics. Donnie one day was at a store and he met a girl named Leah, ended up writing a one-hit wonder about Leah instead of anti-war. After Mark Hamill, he was born in Oakland, California in 1951. He's 73. Mark hit very big in his very first movie. He played Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Had a pretty good run playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise. He was also in the movie as Corvette Summer and Big Red One. He has currently filming a Stephen King Horror movie. They think it was from a bad reaction to a medicine that they were giving him. I thought Soft Cell and Tainted Love was too high for number four, but I lost. But I did get the number one song, so I got that coming up. Heather Locklear, she was born in Los Angeles in 1961. She's 63. Best known for TV, first started out on Dynasty, then TJ Hooker, Spin City, Melrose Play. Heather, she loves those rockers. Her first husband was Tommy Lee, the drummer from Motley Crew. Second husband was Richie Sambora, the guitarist for Bon Jovi. They had a daughter. Now Heather, she says she is currently sober. We hope so. She's at a hard time of it. She has received treatment for alcohol and drug addiction 20 times, so hopefully it takes this time. (Music) In 1979, my "Shirona" was the number one song of the year. Now we have the nack at number three for Top One Hit Wonders. Rapper actor Will Smith is 56. He is born in Philadelphia in 1968. First got known as a rapper. Nope, I couldn't do it. I think there is only one song that every person on the planet knows by the first four words. "I like big butts and I cannot lie. You other brothers can't deny. I want a girl walks in with an innie-bitty waist and a round thing in your face. You get sprung. Wanna pull up? 'Cause you notice that bubble stuck, beefing a genie she's wearing. I'm hooked and I can't stop staring at all. Baby, I want to get whipped up and take your picture. I hope boys try not to warn me, but that butt you got makes me so horny." At number one, one hit wonder of all time, Sir Mix-a-Class baby got back. Now I'm sure most you're probably going to disagree with are less. You shouldn't, but I get it.
