Thursday’s slate of Sweet 16 games was electric. It started with an overtime thriller between Kansas State and Michigan State (the first OT game of the 2023 NCAA Tournament) during which Markquis Nowell set the NCAA Tournament single game record for assists – 19. The Wildcats move on to Saturday’s Elite 8 round where they will face ninth-seeded FAU who knocked off Tennessee.
The last game of Thursday night was another epic matchup between Gonzaga and UCLA, with the Bulldogs coming back from their biggest deficit of the season to knock off the Bruins. It took some Julian Strawther heroics in the end, mixed with Drew Timme almost outscoring the rest of the Gonzaga roster, but Mark Few’s club pulled it out and will face off against a surging UConn team on Saturday.
