The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Gonzaga Bulldogs both avoided upsets on Friday night thanks to their preseason 1st Team All-American big men Armando Bacot and Drew Timme. In the more highly regarded game, Gonzaga fought back to beat Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans on an air craft carrier.
Villanova, Tennessee, and Oregon all fell this weekend. Oregon trailed UC-Irvine by double-digits the entire second half. Tennessee looked really bad against Colorado on Sunday. Villanova is going to have growing pains with Kyle Neptune taking over for Jay Wright and with Justin Moore and Cam Whitmore both out of the lineup.
The Gavitt Games kick off on Monday. The series features the Big Ten vs. the Big East. Curiously, there are only 8 matchups despite each conference having several more teams...and several of the biggest brands are being left out.
