You guys were able to just put out there. I mean the way we came off the ball I mean that that was the best thing for me Obviously, you know first game of the season. There's a lot of question marks and I think we answer a lot of them I'm really proud of the way that we played tonight and the intensity that we had Talk a little bit about the year off season you played quite a bit a year ago But it looks like you've gotten yourself a little bigger What would you do to get to this stage to to make you a little more? Fizz more physical down there. I think I just the experience of it all you know getting all that experience under my belt Kind of learning how everything goes not getting the jitters much anymore And then over the off season really just working on my pass rush a lot and Just the reps of it all you know over time eventually it all kind of slows down for you and everything makes a little more sense What's it like getting coached by a guy that you know played so well at the NFL? Oh, it's awesome It's awesome. I love it It's the reason I came here and I mean he I couldn't ask for anything more to coach He's amazing We'll talk about the game plan coming in where was there anything that Valpo did on film that you guys were Knew you had to stop if you're gonna be successful. Oh, yeah They were a big power team a big down-down gap scheme type of team So we just knew that we had to come off the ball be ready for that and I think we did so you were a little rude to the quarterback First one how to get my money No, that was good, and you got I think you got you and That's a good start that's it's it's hard to get sacks and congratulations. That's a good effort coming out of there I like his little gem from jewel So yeah, who would talk a little bit who else was recruiting you coming out of high school card? It was really Jeremiah Johnson. He it was during COVID, so Coaches couldn't really come to anything, but we played dyke or small school 1a, so we had them on our schedule That's where Jeremiah lived right and he had a senior foreign exchange student that it was senior night for them So there he was there for the band. He saw me warming up apparently. He was like, hey I've never seen that guy before I mean that's pretty much how that happened, so Well need talk a little bit about academic wise what you're doing what you hope to do in the future after your football career Okay, yeah, so I'm a finance major with specialist in Investments and so I'm thinking I kind of want to be like a financial planner or something along the source of that But you know nothing set in stone yet. Oh good. That sounds good. Well, congratulations. I thought you guys played well tonight I mean 16 yards rushing on 18 carries card. I don't know if you saw that Pretty impressive. I did not know that. Yeah, that's a hell of a start. Yeah. Good job You guys are gonna do some interesting things. It looks like I mean a little we were talking about it Maybe non-traditional you have Christian Boyd who was such a stalwart there in the middle. Yeah, that's a different body than you How can you guys though make that be dynamic for what you guys can do and kind of do it in a different way Still shut people down at a high level, but maybe doing it with what your skill sets are Oh, yeah, you know I mean, I think we're probably gonna be a team that runs a little bit more stonces this year kind of gets the offensive I'm a little bit more confused But I mean we still got that like you got to move us like we're not just gonna roll up and Let us let ourselves get moved So think we're gonna try to keep that same tough nose you and I mentality you guys go want to know how much excitement does And then give to the pep in your step. That's awesome. That's awesome. You can't ask for anything more man That's a great start for Panther football. I like the way you guys went down and sang with the band in this That's the best part of it all. Yeah. Yeah, that's nice to see that That's hope those guys keep coming back to me a long time before you're back in this building car Yeah, yeah, no kidding. Yeah, hopefully the people remember this one and and show up for that next game in here Yeah, a big one next time we're home. Yeah, that's right. You got some big ones in between here and there Carter great job Four tackles sack and a half congrats on the win. We'll talk to you again. Thank you much for sure guys. Thanks Cardi Edwards. Ty thanks for coming up with us. You got your hands full there I like it though anytime anytime one of the most fun spots for a kid to be so glad he's up here too But congrats on that win What stood out to you about what you guys were able to do offensively to have the success that you did out there? Well, we've been emphasizing like running the ball. You can't win a win a football game without having a good run game So we've been emphasizing like hitting the whole hard due to Esther ordinary make your blocks Because they're they are a big blessing team So they always have the open gaps and we have a powerful backfield with me. I'm already be buoy So we like no you try a vintage You guys you're gonna take that old line out to eat this week you think I was I wasn't gonna pay enough I had a good idea. I'll be sure you know all a big Mac No, it was impressive that what you did to tell us a little bit about what you did off-season to prepare You got you had some injuries a little bit a year ago, but when you were healthy We saw some flashes have you gained some weight and gained some speed over the summer time. Oh, yes, sir I've been doing Man, I've been hitting hard and thankful to thankful we have a good workout program with Jed He helps a lot it teaches me new things new method to be more flexible to be more stronger be more faster So I always trust him and like trust the process and like just put in the air to work like we have mandatory workouts I make sure I work out again and if I'm able to have access to a gym at night I work out again like it's I'm just trying to I'll fully commit 24/7 to it paid off tonight You had some really nice runs that showed me a burst of speed that I thought maybe you look faster than you were a year ago Yes, sir. Yeah, who's your biggest fan here? Tell us about this guy. That's my son Kyle and like Kyle Lee Edwards Oh, man. It's my lamenting me. It's my world. Something before him guy gave me a beautiful child He is handsome. No doubt about it. Go ahead JW You look at what you guys can do offensively you do had a first-time starting quarterback in Aiden Dunne What kind of impressed you working out there with him now in the game after you've seen him in camp earned that job What impressed you about his first game out there? I love Aiden. He had a certain swagger that it never it never changed even since last year his swagger never changed like Aiden Dunne like that's my boy. We have a good on like a good boy That's my that's my guy how tough is it because you talked about you got three good backs because you can't leave Harrison out at this point With what you and Amari are doing too, but what's the dynamic got to be when it's not just a series? You know that Amari might come in you break off a big run He's gonna come back and advise Versa how hard is that to stay ready and locked in to go when you know Second down might be him third down to you. Um, we we basically like have like a like a little routine We do like three and out like no matter what the situation is So like we try to take a minute about three plays like I went up You seen in the game where I went out Didn't score that long run out like dang cuz I knew he's about to come in and get it It was like a little friend in competition that makes it fun and coach father He's all about making us stay healthy keeping us fresh and that really helped tonight. I like it like that coach Austin I've been a big influence since you've been here Yes, sir. No, definitely. Um, not just on the field, but definitely like off the field He played like more than that coach role. He taught me a bunch of stuff like about real life situations on off the field That's where I spent in the most Well, tell us a little bit about how you ended up being a panther because you've you've had kind of a different journey to get here Yes, sir. Um, so I started highly recruited out of high school then things didn't go right So I end up going to Georgia military college. That's a jukeo then I had the best friend that I grew up with and he wanted to go Jukeo and I got tired of being like at a military school. So let's go to hutch We ended up getting a natty there at hutch then I ended up utsa things ain't go right So I just prayed on it and first off I made noticed decisions without Asking God first as he don't got me. I feel like if it comes with hesitation, then it's not sent from God But if it kind of a confrontation, then it's definitely like God's route So I always trust God's on work in this process My mom has always say that like trust God I trust the process and since I've been here it's been a good process like I trusted I always put God first like even before the game. I read the bible at halftime I read the bible. I'm just fully committed to God and then it turns out when I like the man I'm gonna come in that's awesome. Hey, Ty, we're glad you're here I'll tell you that you would fun to watch and we look forward to watching you all season congratulations on a great opener Yes, so thank you, sir, but for your high yards career high touchdowns career long now with that 54 That's the longest one. We've got you down. Did I have that right two touchdowns? I didn't find one where you had scored twice in a game before Oh, man. Yes, sir. Yes. There you go Next next stop three right next stop three. All right, Ty. Thanks so much. We'll talk to you again Thanks for joining us and the head coach is going to join us as well after this 35 to 7 win And coach first off congratulations on that going one and oh, you can't start any better than that We were just talking about it though. It doesn't matter who you're playing or what level they come from You can gauge a lot about what your team does by how hard they're playing how physical they're playing Start there. What did you like about the way the intensity with which your team on both sides of the ball attacked what their mission was today? That's my bad. Hang on now start. There you go. That's a fumble. Yeah, that was it. There goes my execution points All right in all seriousness That's it was the attitude that we wanted to demonstrate today because you got to play this game with an attitude and the energy that it takes to be Successful out no matter who you're against and I thought we came out here We did that we did that on particular on offense I think it shows up a lot quicker on offense because I thought we were balanced on offense do what we're doing early And then the running game kind of took over and you saw us wear down the opponent As the game progressed with those two running backs and and our offensive line. So yeah, the execution was good there The tempo was good. The communication was good. The defense was good I was just pleased there was made a bad call on the on the screen over there They caught us in one but and they got away from us. But other than that it was it was a it was a very good day You'll die about it. I I talked a little bit. I thought maybe right before halftime coach you you know as a No lead is completely safe, but you seem to have the game well control I thought maybe you try a little two-minute offense where they done just you know before going into halftime Did you think about that at all we weren't we weren't two-minute? But we didn't I was I was upset about the first because you have to learn in these games too That's why you play right and that was a chance that we had we had two minutes two minutes time out We had two time outs left. We were set up to to work the field But when we didn't complete the first pass Then the clock became a factor and now do you just get a minute and take the lead and don't do something dumb Or try to push the field and score what you would you'd have to win a big game So we need to complete that first pass bottom line So the pass has to be a high percentage pass See if you can make a play out of it and then get up to the line on the second and five and start doing some other stuff But what was disturbing? The supporting was is we had to punt and now you're putting to a good team They had had three more chances at you and in our league. That's that might that might cost you a touchdown in a game So that drive aspect right before half absolutely you want to score that's gonna win you games But you can't do something to put you behind the eight ball and give up People do it and they don't know what they're doing And it costs them games as much as helps you win So if that was a learning experience and we just probably didn't have the we probably had a better play higher percentage pass To keep that thing going and we probably could have been successful at it That's talking to jw through the eye i was impressed with the communication and didn't you didn't get the delay of games You didn't have you know guys You're not knowing the right formation the right personnel All everything seem to go pretty smooth. I thought for you're basically dealing with a Not a new coaches on that offensive side of the football. Oh, there's there's a plethora of Coaches down there that there are a lot of new ones. Okay a lot of new name tags down there But here's what we did is this is probably the fifth game we've played we have been Calling plays that practice more so this camp than ever before We've had game after game where everything is a situational deal. It's we just start the ball We start practice on the 10 yard line drive the field probably spend the first 30 minutes of practice just going against each other just calling plays because you had to learn how to communicate We had to learn who was going to call the place And then who who was the best and it wasn't who was the best person to call the play What was the best combination to use to get the information you need so I can call the play And so phalani called the plays but you listen to folkard and nelson They're the ones that are giving the the ideas on the run of the protection You listen to tinsley Okay, and he's the one that's talking about what they need to do with In the passing game for the quarterback and then the middle man is is your receiver coach And he's kind of he has the conscious of what's going on And he has the ability to listen and communicate with those guys and give them autonomy So That combination has worked really well so far and hope to build off it Ken well talking about you. We all know everybody wants to know about the quarterback and all that we didn't know for sure What we hadn't ate and done what how did you I know you haven't looked at the film yet? but how'd you rate him or grade him in his first start of the He didn't got the start because of his communication and just what you said before It's looked like we were on time. No false starts for the most part. No Jumping offs. No no clock management problems too much time get in get off the field I'm snapping the ball with one two seconds left on the shot clock so I know he's watching the clock That's why he got the start it was that that's what I saw in him That was different than the other quarterbacks was that Element of leadership to make those choices for our team because he's the one that's going to have to make that on the field And he did that tonight and he's got an element of toughness to him that Uh leads to what what you want on your offense. I'll tell you what we talked about it during the broadcast I bet you're pretty glad you got lean prior on your team aren't you? That kid I love watching him block. I mean that was great. He's got good hands He's a good reason but that blocking there was somebody he blocked two guys on this run right down here Every time I mean, I saw him blowing up defensive lineman and put him on there on their backsides Lane who petamized you and I football lane lane is the best person the best player uh, the all-around attitude he has everything you want in a Person representing your school as much as your football team and to make plays free on top fit for him to get he did everything Got the corner catching the end zone. He got the blocks up front. He got the wam block on the tackle I mean, he's he did it all and he does does it all with a smile on his face and the energy that people just kind of you know Go towards him and that's that's what you need man That's I just we just need to build up this kind of energy and each week it'll get a little bit tougher now But this is a good start. I tell you we had two guys that I thought were in present car to you It was our defensive player game. I thought he did a good job for inner and then tie edwards coach It was fun. Those guys are impressive young men just to come up not you know Not only how they played football, but how they reacted with us and and how they carried themselves After the game. Oh, I'm glad to hear that because I got the comment Because you never know. I mean I see all this stuff every day You hope you everybody sees what you see, but the coolest thing that happened tonight for me was one Well, one of those david johnson went out with their deal. So he comes around. No, he's honoric captain. I almost forgot about it I knew I asked him last night that he got a cable or so I got even involved in that and then you saw what he was to us And tie edwards going down that side like kind of look like kind of look like david johnson going down the side like me And then because he had kind of had that pump going on that david always used to have two kind of pumping his shoulders and stuff And then the other cool part was halfway through the quarter somebody grabs these from behind and it was lj fort And lj fort is to the fans. It was it was he played for us. He was a running back that we made in a linebacker Played 12 years in the NFL. He's not retired. He grabs me from behind and he said man You got some good looking guys. I think he was talking about the running Well coach, I mean you start one and oh and like you said everything gets a little more difficult But right now you come out of camp and and you know with the questions that you had and a bunch of different places Whether there's the coaches and the guys you're going to have on defense How does this help you focus now? refocus into a season mode when you go into this next week of practice to prepare for week number two knowing the great things That you did out there in week number one Well, this is by gons after tomorrow, but we will we will watch the tape and enjoy What we did and how they did okay to show them that this is this is what it looks like when you come command they had that element of Preparedness this morning and at lunch. I haven't had those kind of two meals in 10 years And so it just that alone. I was wondering are they ready? I'm gonna have to wait and see but it sure appeared To be getting the right direction at those two meals and then and then they came out here and played And I think it had a lot to do with getting the first home team I mean you should play at home. I mean look what it did for our team right now Going to the next week and you guys have been around for the last 14 years So, you know, you walk away the first one feeling pretty good right now, but Now we got to get back to work on sunday enjoy the moment Knowing that we got to get better because each week the pawn's going to get better But that's why we played this game to get ready for the next and learn but also Build from and get better because each week will be tougher and you It will get exposed more so down than the weeks to come unless we continue to grow as a team I coach great first step congrats on that win want to know and going into a great week. Thanks so much for coming up. All right. Thanks guys
