Carolina Panthers Should TRADE Bryce Young, Steelers-Dolphins Russell Wilson Deal & Best NFL Rookie

The Carolina Panthers look to be sticking with Andy Dalton and they should be looking for trade partners for Bryce Young. The Los Angeles Rams and New York Jets make a ton of sense as suitors. The Pittsburgh Steelers moved to 3-0 with Justin Fields at quarterback and the Miami Dolphins quarterback situation is a mess. The two teams should partner for a Russell Wilson trade. Finally, Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels have been incredibly impressive, but Luke & Tyler disagree on which has been MORE impressive through three weeks.

Luke, it was a crazy upset filled week three in the NFL and the biggest upset might have been the Carolina Panthers going from one of the worst looking teams in the NFL to a dominant performance led by Andy Dalton, the red rifle is back on the range and it looks like Bryce Young's time in Carolina is done. I may not be the only person that thinks that. Let's hear from Julian Council from locked on Panthers. Short of Dalton going on a tear for now, blah, blah, blah. Diana Rucini had it right when she wrote this, it's over. No matter what Carolina says, rest assured, it's over. This is an experiment. This isn't an experiment. Excuse me. This isn't a Ross and Rachel break. I'm told that's from friends. I'm black. I've never seen friends. This is Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston over. That's what she wrote. She was the only one to come out and say flat out like this. This is not happening. And everyone around the league understands that's why the Panthers have received trade requests from four teams being offered as high as a fourth round pick according to Jonathan Jones CBS sports. Everyone knows it's over. And the players themselves showed you on Sunday, they don't want Bryce. They want Andy. They want Andy. All right. Well, I'm just going to throw this out here. I mean, Andy Dalton looked great, 68% completion percentage, 319 yards, three touchdowns. Now we do got to say here, this was against the Las Vegas Raiders who may not be the best team in the NFL also. At the end of the day, the Panthers are supposed to be the worst. Right. Exactly. That anywhere is. Yeah, we got to give them their credit where it's due. But I think the reality here and the big story here is that Bryce Young's time in Carolina does appear to be over. And of course, the report from Diana Rossini that Julian referenced tells us that as well. To me, that makes me think forward of if the Panthers are done with Bryce Young and I think Bryce Young may feel like he's done with the Panthers, that may be something he doesn't want to go back to. Who would be a team that makes sense to trade for them? And Luke, we're going to we're going to give the people a peek behind the curtain here. We had an idea to try to go to some people and say, Hey, what would you give up for Bryce Young? And the answer was we don't want him. And I get that maybe some of our hosts from lockdown would not be interested because of the way that things have seemed, but teams out there are going to be savvy. They're going to find market inefficiencies. They're going to take a chance on a guy and give up a low risk pick here. But the question is which team would do it. And I have some options here for you. Let's just rapid fire. A number one team that comes up to me. I just want to clarify, every single lockdown host you talk to was like, no, every single unanimous. Nobody wants this guy. It's a list about five or six, but it does not appear than anybody was lining up to do it. But I think there are some teams that would make this trade if the price was right. And then you need to Debbie QB three is the Los Angeles Rams. You have Matthew Stafford. He's 35 years old. The Rams did get a big win against San Francisco with Sean McDay over Kyle Shanahan is just kind of the way this thing works. But the Rams have a team that's kind of falling apart at the seams with all the injuries despite the big comeback win that they had. Matthew Stafford, obviously towards the end of his career, Bryce Young would have no pressure to play and pairing him with Sean McDay might give him an opportunity to revive his career. Quick fire. Do you think the Rams should trade a low round pick and maybe get Bryce Young in the building? If they want that to be their Debbie guy, then I suppose they can go for it. If the Rams want to once again go back to having a young quarterback, I kind of wonder if like less needed and Sean McVay are just going to go turn to whatever like veteran is available. They would sooner start calling it Cowboys about Dak or something like that than kind of saying here's our reclamation project, especially not in the middle of the season. This is going to be the barrier with all of this. It's really hard to do this in the middle of the year and it's probably like if the whole point is, okay, he's broken now, but I can develop him, hey, let's toss a new playbook at him in the middle of a season with no camp or anything. And hope you don't have to play kid, but he doesn't have to play. He's the Debbie QB three. That's until someone gets hurt. Right. Right. I trust Sean McVay. I trust Sean McVay to get the best out of Bryce Young if it's possible. That's really how I'm looking at this is who can actually fix this guy? And I think that Sean McVay is high on that list. I think you need somebody who is definitely not going to turn to him even next year. And that might be the Rams. Sure. If you think you got one more year of Stafford in you, if he stays healthy, they're too good. They're too good to be high enough to get a high end quarterback in the draft. I think that they're going to be competitive at certain competitive enough. So you just might be in a young quarterback. Yeah, the Rams aren't going for a first runner and having Bryce Young on your roster shouldn't stop you if you do end up with a good pick Rams. So I don't. So I think that's neither here nor there. Yeah, I think it could make sense, but you have to really trust Matt Stafford. He has to never get hurt for two years and you have to never think you're going to move on from him kind of feels a little bit like the, it would have to be like the, the Gino Smith giant sabbatical kind of situation where he's backing somebody up or a Sam Donald in San Francisco, which is something that you know a little bit about. But without the Carolina thing first, it has to be like, okay, you are here and we aren't going to talk to you for two years. Everybody is just going to like block your number for a little bit and we're going to forget about you until you have to show up on Thursday night football because someone's in the concussion protocol. Very true. Now this isn't as good as the Rams fit in my opinion, but the New York Jets, the New York Jets have Aaron Rodgers, 40 years old. You let Bryce Young learn from Aaron Rodgers. I don't trust Nathaniel Hackett like I trust Sean McBae, but I'm just looking at teams that are going to be too competitive this year to get a young quarterback who also have an old guy they could look for a successor. So what would you think about the Jets fit? The money is going to be I think a little bit interesting with the Jets because who knows what happens to Aaron Rodgers. Right. If he goes and plays another year next year, then sure, and it's kind of a good point. But if he doesn't, you've got like guaranteed salary and stuff and you got to deal with that. And the other thing you got to remember about Bryce Young is that he is carrying 10 or 12 million dollar cap pits or I guess it would be, um, that's why the draft, it would have to be very low. I'm thinking six seventh round compensatory, yeah, seven or nine or something like that. Yeah. It would have to be a low draft pick for sure. And I don't think the Carolina Panthers get to demand anything higher than that, but with that money transferring over, you have to make sure that that fits. And are we doing that for a guy that is probably entering your roster as QB three. And he's going to be like inactive on game days, but dressed as the emergency QB. Is that going to be worth it for that sort of outside chance that I say, you know, oh, I can fix him, but he's just so radioactive right now that I also think the Panthers maybe would be wiser to wait until like free agency next, next March to, to trade him where you kind of have him a little bit where you're not just immediately pressing the panic button or the draft or the team inevitably doesn't get a young quarterback that they were interested in you Josh rose in this and get a third. Yeah. Right. Exactly. Well, that's not the only quarterback trade that we are going to ponder on today's show. Should the Steelers trade Russell Wilson now that Justin Fields clearly looks like the best option in the building. We're going to talk about that. Who's the best NFL rookie so far through three weeks? A lot more coming on the lockdown NFL podcast. It's locked on your team every day. Today's episode is brought to you by fan dual sports book. Go to fandoor.com. All right, Luke, let's continue today's edition of the lockdown NFL podcast. We talked about some potential price young trades, some teams that it would make sense for, whether it would make sense whatsoever. But now we got to talk about another quarterback situation that has been interesting to watch honestly throughout the entire all season. And that is over in Pittsburgh. Now, the Steelers have moved to three and O on the season led by Justin Fields and the buzz is there in Pittsburgh at this time. Let's go to Chris Carter locked on Steelers. I can't help but look at the upside for the offense and think that could be the most exciting part of the team because we kind of knew about the defense. But if this offense does take steps forward, that makes this team a whole different level of competitor. Yeah, I mean, I think if, you know, the thought was if they could be a great defense and an average offense and you get a playoff team. And I think, you know, we're starting to see signs of that come along. You know, I don't think no one stones writing any ballads about 20 points against the Los Angeles Chargers. But I think you're just seeing solid progress. And I think that's that's rightfully got some people excited. I mean, I think that while the Steelers may not ever have one of the best offenses in the NFL, I think that they can improve. I think that they can get better. And I think that while it's been a little shaky early on, I think that they can absolutely be an average offense and maybe even a little bit above average with Justin Fields. Am I crazy to think that? I mean, is that not what they're doing so far? I mean, like, kind of. It's so unbelievably funny to me that it doesn't matter who you are, you will play your worst football in Chicago. It's just this this like trope of everything like Chicago just brings out through multiple regimes. It just keeps happening to them. Fields kind of balling out. Meanwhile, Caleb Williams is sort of sputtering to get off the ground has just just another kick to the nuts. But I don't want to go too crazy on the Steelers because I know Justin Fields and I know that there are limits to what that offense can do. It doesn't threaten every blade of grass on the field. Getting him out in space and getting him on the run and especially getting him scrambled and on design runs and stuff is great stuff that helps especially in like third and short and kind of high leverage situations can sort of shorten the sticks for you. That's great. But there will come a time where a defense figures out exactly what they do and don't have to respect and that he's going to have to try to create something that isn't free and that we'll see what happens when the Steelers get there. But I also know better than to look at the Steelers who are always always always always have a better record than they're supposed to and be like, "Ah, surely that'll crash back down to earth." It never does. They'll be the sixth seed. They're going to lose in the wild card round. It's just the way that that God works. I don't know. Yeah, the football gods definitely want the Steelers in for one reason or no. But one thing that I have continued to say is I think that while the offense is going to be limited, I agree with you there. I think that in those limitations Justin Fields still gives them higher upside than Russell Wilson, which leads me to my next point. I feel like Lawrence Taylor and the water boy right now. Why keep Russell Wilson? And Russell Wilson, who we know, who we know wants to play. That's the whole reason that he came. He signed a low, low deal for veteran minimum to come to play. He didn't sign a veteran minimum deal to be Justin Fields backup. So I would not be surprised if behind the scenes, Russell Wilson would be interested in a trade. And if Russell Wilson were to get traded, I think there is a clean fit out them out there for him with a team that has a lot of quarterback uncertainty down on South Beach, the Miami Dolphins. Let's hear it from Kyle Graz about that. Just the whole thing was very disjointed. And if you're going to call a game based on timing, and if you're going to call a game based on precision on the road with the player who's in the system that goes back to some of the things that we had the reaction on the post game show that I'm not going to get back into here. But if he's not capable of doing that, and that's how you want to call a game, then you can't keep doing that. And that includes the player who's executing as well. This should be Tyler Huntley territory, in my opinion. Now Mike McDaniel is speaking as I am recording this right now, and said there's a lot of stuff, quote, there's a lot of stuff on the table as far as Skyler Thompson's help. Regardless of whether he could play or not, I don't know how you can make that choice to go back there. Tyler Huntley forces you to do something different now. I agree with Kyle. Tyler Huntley definitely makes you call the offense differently than you would with Skyler Thompson because it wouldn't make sense to not use Tyler Huntley's mobility. And obviously he's got more mobility than a guy like Skyler Thompson. But you want to do something different in Miami with the announcement coming that Tua is going to meet with an independent neurologist who knows whether he's going to be back this year with him being on IR. Right. True. Why wouldn't the dolphins go out and make an easy trade for a little money? It's not complicated like Bryce show. It's why would that mean it's it's negligible. Exactly. Go out and make a trade for Russell Wilson who maybe you disagree Luke, but Russell Wilson is a better quarterback than Tyler Huntley or Skyler Thompson or Tim Boyle or whatever options that they have. Miami is not a team in a position to just tank the season because we don't know what's going on with Tua. They need to go compete right away. I think the Miami Dolphins should go trade for Russell Wilson and see what happens. I kind of do disagree. I think I'd rather have Tyler Huntley from Miami. What if Russell Wilson could actually do stuff with his legs still? That's like what Tommy is to me. They both have these major. It's sort of similar to fields. There are these like major deficiencies on what they can and can't do. You cannot run your full complement of playbook with Russell Wilson of stuff over the middle. Just feels I can say issues so the Steelers can't really solve their problem. The thing about it too, at the end of the day, the Miami Dolphins brought in Tyler Huntley for this and this specifically or Skyler Thompson or whoever they decide there to just start looking around and going grabbing whatever floats by would sort of imply that those other moves were more random than they ever are. If they don't go with Skyler Thompson, if they don't continue with Skyler Thompson, they'll go with Tyler Huntley and that's going to be it for that. I think the Steelers, a great reason not to do this is Justin Fields is still young. Russell Wilson is also still hurt so you can't pass a physical right now. That's going to put a damper on any trades. Will he be able to pass a physical before the deadline anyways? Well, the Dolphins at least have this week. They play the Titans on Monday night football. They're going to go to two and two so they don't have to worry about this week. It doesn't matter. They could play no quarterback. Oh my goodness. What a quarterback on the other team is going to make sure that they win the game. So the Dolphins don't need a quarterback for this week, which gives them a little bit more time to see if Russell Wilson is healthy. Yeah, has a team ever been outscored by the other team's defense twice in a year? Because that might happen. I mean, it could happen every week in Tennessee, but that's a story for another time. Another time. Yeah. Boy, what a clunker of money to football matchup, but it might be Tyler Huntley. If I'm Miami, I would go with Tyler Huntley. I think he's proven more and he's exactly for this. That's what he was for in Baltimore for so long. Like he is precisely for this. I don't think Russell Wilson brings you any further. And if I'm Pittsburgh, I like Russell Wilson in the building still as a veteran presence that isn't here on a gigantic contract that's and getting his own office in the building and larger than life, right? Like he's here now as a veteran. That is where I disagree with you though, Luke. I think that would you think the vibe is like that? I think Russell Wilson has been known as a malcontent. I think he's a type of guy who isn't well liked by all of his teammates. And I think that it Russell Wilson could be a problem in the locker room. If he's healthy and isn't the starter, not a non issue. I actually think that good. Then I'm trading him to the Patriots just to sabotage them. Fair enough there. Fair enough. But hey, we'll see what the dolphins do. A lot of uncertainty there. I think that could be an option for him though, but it will be interesting to see how Tyler Huntley performs. I forget in his first win of the season against the Tennessee Titans on Monday night football. He is a pro baller after all, Luke. But with that being said, speaking of the pro ball, Jayden Daniels, Malik neighbors, who has been the best rookie so far in the NFL, we will debate on the last segment of lockdown NFL. All right, Luke, let's cap off today's edition of the Lockdown NFL podcast. We talked about Bryce Young potentially getting traded in some options. We talked about the uncertainty at the quarterback position with the dolphins and how the Steelers now with Justin Fields leading them to an undefeated record could fill that dolphins need with a Russell Wilson trade. But now we're going to shift gears. Talk about some of these rookie performances from the weekend because they were absolutely fantastic. Before, I do want to let you know that Tony Wiggins is going to be in the barbershop later for the afternoon edition of Lockdown NFL. Make sure that you check that out at your team every day here on the Lockdown podcast network. But Jane Daniels went absolutely insane against the Cincinnati Bengals. Talked about it a little bit on yesterday's show. Tony Wiggins spoke about it as well, but I mean, a phenomenal performance, 254 yards passing, two touchdowns, ran the ball as well, absolutely phenomenal. And we're going to hear from my guy David Harrison of Lockdown Commanders about that. It was supposed to be the Cincinnati Bengals get right game. Instead, it turned out to be Jane Daniels coming out party. This is David Harrison of the Lockdown Commanders podcast. 38 to 33. The final score in week three. Monday night football, the Washington commanders come into Paycore Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio and go home to and one. Meanwhile, Cincinnati Bengals are 0 and 3. Jayden Daniels, two touchdown passes, one touchdown running Brian Robinson, Austin Echler, another touchdown run themselves. And perhaps the biggest story, Terry McClure, and getting his first touchdown catch of the year, 100 yards on four catches total for the night, including a 55 yard touchdown bomb from Jane Daniels to seal the win. And of course, wide receiver one Trent Scott offensive tackle, getting his first career touchdown pass. He and Jane got to figure out how to split up that touchdown ball, because it's each of their first touchdown passes of their NFL careers. For more on this and everything, Washington commanders, check out the Lockdown Commanders podcast. Five days a week, part of the Lockdown podcast network, your team every day. If you hear the emergency vehicles in the background of David's clip there, it's just the Cincinnati police and medical staff coming to revive this bangles team who is absolutely on live support. But I mean, Jane Daniels has been absolutely fantastic loop, no doubt about it. But there's another rookie in the NFL right now making waves and it's Malik neighbors, 23 catches, 271 yards, three touchdowns. But it may have been a play where he didn't make a catch that has endeared him most to his teammates. Patricia Trainor from Lockdown Giants explained that. But you know what's interesting about Malik neighbors and the game that he had against the Browns, it was the one play that you won't see in the box score that really, you know, tells you all you need to know about the show man. All right, so I'm referencing the play in which Daniel Jones, I think his arm got hit and the ball came in of his hand kind of funny. And it went it was it was close to being an interception. It was it was actually a contested ball. And the Browns defender almost came down with it, except Malik neighbors had enough common sense to turn himself into a defensive bat and swat the ball away. Therefore, or thereby preventing an interception that might have been run back for a touchdown, it might have been a pitch six. So Malik neighbors bailed out his quarterback. I don't know about you, Luke, but Patricia's voice is incredibly calming to me. That was like NFL, ASMR right there. And fans need that. They do they do such a common maybe they don't. I don't know. They won who knows. Patricia is the go. I mean, in New York City, I think it's okay to have something that relaxes you and brings you some ease here and there. But the point is Malik neighbors has been incredible. And a guy that young, one of the things you hear heard about Malik neighbors coming in is, you know, is he going to be able to be good off the field? He's a guy who liked to have fun at LSU going to New York City. He's a real young prospect as well. But for him to make a heady play like that and to prove to his teammates that, you know, he's really locked into the game and not just getting his own, which some people were worried about coming into the draft and after some of his comments about Daniel Jones, I wanted to play that clip because I think it's incredibly impressive that, you know, he's a guy making smart plays out there, not just making wow plays with the ball in his hands. But if you had to say who has been the more impressive rookie early on, Jayden Daniels from Malik neighbors, who would you go with? Probably neighbors because he's done it every game. He was the only functional thing on the Giants offense in week one when I was watching him. He was, and he continued to make those kind of wow plays. Jayden Daniels got us a little start to the season first couple games. And this one on Monday Night Football, very much a coming out party, very much the thing of the hour, but he does have to keep doing it. He's got to stack these now. And I think he will. For me, Jayden Daniels was my favorite QB in the draft. If I had the first overall pick, I would have picked him one overall. I said it on this show. So I'm not, I think he's gonna, I think that, you know, a couple of tough games to start as you adjust and then you get the most fast asleep defense in the league in the Cincinnati Bengals and you get a little bit of rhythm and maybe that can get you going. David called it a get right. It was a get right game for Jayden Daniels. Um, so I believe in that, but Malik neighbors doesn't have you asking that question because he's done it now for a few weeks. And you know that that's going to, like when you see that kind of performance once, maybe you just had a hot game. You see it three times in a row. It's really hard to keep explaining that away. So that's, that's, I guess where I'm at, but also Jayden Daniels's job is harder. Like quarterback's just harder than receiver. I think most receivers would even would, would even admit that. And, and, and that's a great jump off point because I'd go with Jayden Daniels and especially to me, it's highlighted by the fact that all of these young quarterbacks around the NFL are struggling so bad. Jayden Daniels may have lost in week one, but he didn't have an interception. So you go to week two, 23 for 29, 226 yards, adds 44 yards, rushing another game, no interceptions. Despite the fact that he got sacked five times and some of that may have to do with his style of play as well as Sacks aren't all on offense alignment. He brings it on him. Yeah. Complete 80% of your passes, not turn over the ball, lead your team to a victory and then follow it up with that performance on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals in prime time. I mean, to me, with the difficulty of the quarterback position and how bad some of these other young quarterbacks are struggling around the league, I am, while I, I really do like Malik neighbors and I think that he deserves all of his credit in the world, I would lead with Jayden Daniels as the more, more impressive rookie so far throughout three weeks. He talked to me in 10 days after I've, you know, we've seen one more game and had a little bit of time to chew on it. And I can very easily see myself being there, but it's just like in this particular juncture, it's hard. It's, the NFL has trained me to not overreact to single games. Yep. So I'm trying to be really careful about that. But I mean, it does match my priors on him. I thought he was the dude coming out and he looked like the dude on Monday Night Football. Not me, Luke. That's why they call me the madman. I watched the one game. He was great. He's great forever. You know how it works here. I'll make a responsible analyst out of you yet. One day, one day the brain will rub all on me. But with that being said, that is going to do it for us here on today's edition of locked on NFL. Again, make sure that you tune in this afternoon for Tony Wiggins in the barbershop for the afternoon version of locked on NFL. I am Tyler Roland, the madman here with the brain himself, Luke Braun.
