What time is it? It's Thursday. Thursday. Tom Thayer. Thayer. 1985 Super Bowl Champion and Football Analyst for the Chicago Bears. He threw in the division, win the division, get in the playoffs. Former offensive lineman. They need to get better. Do they need to give up less sacks? Yes, of course. Tom Thayer. Tom Thayer. It's Thayer Thursday on Captain J. Wood. ESPN Chicago. And Tom Thayer is on the hotline. The Kar-X Tyranado Hotline, John. "Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom." "Don't worry, call the Kar-X name." Good morning, Tom. How are you? Good morning, man. How are you guys doing? Good to talk to you, J. Hood. We are fired up for football this weekend. It is my favorite game on the board. I do believe the Bears take a step in the right direction and get a victory over the Rams. My question to you is, are they failing Caleb by not trying to establish the role of the run on the interior rather running a propensity of their offensive plays on the ground to the edge? Well, if you came in here and you kind of look back at a realistic development of a rookie quarterback and they don't have a running game, then they are failing him. And one thing you've got to do in order to incorporate the entirety of an offensive game plan is make sure you have the running game that is connected to every other element of successful offensive football. So if you're asking me the question, yeah, in some terms, in some respects, they are failing Caleb, but I guess they have to improve technically, fundamentally their physical style of play in everything that goes along with that interior running game. Tom is brought to you by the village of Rosemont. When the offense looks good, Tommy, what do you like most about it? When the offense looks right, it's more of the encore. In preparation of the tight end position, Cole Comette and his targets, and the profits from his targets last week, they are resulting first downs. The play action factor that can lead to completions to Rome and DJ, hopefully Keenan Allen at some point and still keeping the tight end position involved. Because the thing about it is this team needs a repetitive first downs. In first downs, lead to touchdowns, first downs lead to time of possession. The first downs lead to time of possession that results into a fresher defense. When you put the ball into the hands of Caleb Williams, but allow the other positions to be incorporated rather than hopefully the offensive line can sustain a two to three second protection to get balls 15 yards or longer downfield, I don't know if you're really doing Caleb a gratitude at that point, I think you're doing him an early development to service. If we come out here on Sunday and the tight end is ignored, they're still trying to sustain protection downfield. Last week, the Rams defensive front, they pressured Purdy 27 times. That's one thing that travels well. Even Caleb, moving forward in a positive direction, and I still have all the faith in the world in Caleb. I'm not going, oh my God, did they make the right choice? It's no, oh my God, how can we support Caleb throughout the beginning of this regular season and this football life to make sure that we put the best player on the field? So we saw Cole come back at 10 catches the other day, Rome at 110 yards receiving. I don't like how they're using DJ Moore. You watch every snap of every game of every practice. Can you explain to me why DJ looks like he is more of an afterthought in this defensive attack through three weeks? You know, because he's identified as the number one receiver for the Bears. So the first attempt of the opponent is to take him out of the game and make Caleb move his eyes the width of the field and try to identify the next opportunity target. If you look, a couple of those play action passes that were big catches for Roman Dusse, it was because of DJ Moore running a deception route, running an interference route to make sure that Rome gets into an open opportunity. So those types of things are going to plague the Bears going forward until they incorporate that next guy up. And hopefully, the continuance of using Cole, the tight end position, incorporate Gerald Everett a little bit more. That will help open up targets for DJ Moore because now the safety and the linebacker position is going to have to face or factor in that underneath coverage a little bit more than following DJ downfield. And then you'll get him heavily involved in the passing game. But we all knew that this was going to happen throughout the offseason. We all talked about it. Who are they going to call the number one receiver for the Bears? And so I DJ Moore's identified as that guy. And now how do you get the other guys involved in moving forward? It's tough for a young quarterback to be able to move his eyes around the field if they don't have sustained positive protection. Tom Thier with us on the Captain Jay Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app, Tom, when it comes to the running game is in particular, I asked Cap about the running game and our five burning questions. I said, should DeAndre Swift start against the Rams or should you give it to Roshan Johnson to start off with? I still believe in thunder and lightning as far as the two running back system. But what's best for the Bears? Roshan ran it well and Swift, he's not making holes in the offensive lines that make it holes for him. So what gives? You know, Jay Hood, I think it's a commitment to the whole called. And I don't want to sound like a broken record. However, when you devise an offensive running game, the block, the positioning, the head placement, the shoulder, the attack, the field, the understanding where the linebackers are going to be by the time the play flows, it's an exact positioning. And I think if you allow the running back freedom on a interior running game to run where he sees, you're doing the offensive running game a disservice. And so make them commit to the interior. Make them on the interior plays commit to the whole called. You know, Caleb said it yesterday in the press conference when he was at the podium. This is a running game that's just looking for four yards of carry. That's exactly right. It's a super intelligent thing said by the young guy because if you can go and repeatedly average four yards per carry and maybe you do it out first and second down, you're talking about third and two. You're talking about so many options open big play threats downfield, just continuing to get those first downs. And so you're not asking to reinvent the bear's offense. You're just asking them to commit to the whole called. And then if they're not, if it's not successfully done, then you're going to know where the concern lies in terms of identifying the offensive blockers who aren't doing their job correctly. If you give the running back a chance to freelance on interior running plays, and they want to cut it back because you're facing a lot of seven, eight man lines, back to an unblocked Olin is emphatic that he would move to Evan Jenkins to right guard and go him and Darnell Wright. That's a power running game on the right side. He goes and that's how I'm fixing things. So Darnell Wright and Kevin Jenkins on the right side. Correct. Okay. What would that look like, Tom? Oh my, you know, I'm not sure that would help things a lot. You know, Matt Pryor is a big body, you know, you talk about putting a six, seven, three hundred and thirty five pound frame up in the line of scrimmage. You should expect more out of your double teams and then have the running back favor that double team and then try to get up to that second level. You know, Kevin, you know, just he's got to play the best brand of football that he can possibly play and we've seen it out of him before. And then I guess, you know, you got, you know, Matt Pryor in there and see how he does week two. And then I think you have to investigate the talents of Karanamikaji and see what determination you make in his practicing where his skills fit best. What you think of the defense overall, Captain, I talked about, you know, Taylor, you know, he's going to run the football and I think he did a good job clearly, especially in spurts, definitely toward the end of the game. They broke that big run. Yeah. So I get, you know, it's fine. So what do you, what do you think of the defense as far as them, they're getting to the quarterback and in the past rush? What stands out most there? You know, Anthony Richardson, you have to respect his athleticism. So it does, you know, interfere with just rush to the point of the drop back. You have to make sure that you have an outside contained rush by the two outside defenders. So that slows the immediate attack process because of his athleticism. I, you know, I thought the defense, I think they're playing a good brand of football. They're having a lot of interchangeable bodies on the defensive line, both on the inside and the outside. But again, you got to be complimented by time of possession by the offense. So you go out there and then you can freshly attack your opponent. I think this week, you know, the first three quarterbacks they play are all second year guys, even though CJ Strouder's rookie of the year. Now you're playing a guy in Matthew Stafford that he's going to be in control of the defense. He's going to know exactly what he sees breaking the huddle. He's going to know what he said in the huddle. He's going to know how everything fits together. So now rather than us just watching a determined rush, we're going to have to pay attention to coverage is both from the linebacker and the defensive back because Matthew Stafford is going to know exactly every single time where he wants to go at the ball as much as you know what defense you're playing. So we had a flus on the other day. We get him the day after every game. And last year, I said to Matt, do you allow Justin Fields to audible? He said, of course we do. He could change anything if he sees something, he wants to change a play absolutely. So I said, well, I got a couple of questions for you, Matt, one third down at the one yard line. Why are you trying to block Tyquan Lewis with the Andre Carter? Why? Because a year ago, you told Waterloo and Sylvia, that's a mistake on me. We won't do that again. We got to go a big on a big. We can't ask a little guy to block a big guy. And as you've seen on the tape, he engulfs the Andre Carter and tackles Cleo Herbert all in one motion. I said, and then on fourth down, from what I was told, there's a check that Caleb has. But because the play clocks running down, Caleb said, I just want to get the play off and then it blows up and you lose 12 years. Can he audible? And he wouldn't answer the question. He just said, we just have to execute better. Can he not change the play? Oh, I'm sure he's got a built-in audible inside the play called. But I think you're really doing yourself a disservice when you're in shotgun on goal line offense. On that third down, when you have a little guy at one of the most important points of attack and you see what happens there, I don't know. To me, I got an extra offensive lineman in on short yardage and goal line. I have multiple uses of all the tight ends I have. And I'm going to be quarterback under center. So when you look at the design of the play, not necessarily in my past, do I agree with it? But if you don't have a built-in audible and you see that the defense has the advantage before the ball has ever snapped, I think that you either have to call it. All the time out or you have to understand that you're in an unrealistic position to win the play and then the play results in 11 yard loss. Yeah. By the way, with the Bears ticking on the Rams, Tommy, what are your memories of ticking on the Rams? I see a lot of wins here. I saw you loss against the Rams. This is when the Rams play at Anaheim Stadium in '83. You call this 2114 Rams beat the Bears and paid through for a touchdown in that game. Yeah, '83, I wasn't there. Again, I didn't come before I was drafted in '83, but I came aboard in '85. And so '85 was the NFC Championship game. And then I think the next time we played the Rams, their kicker hit like a 51 yarder at the end of the game to beat us. So I guess the best of the memories is beating them in the playoffs and the worst of the memories is getting beat at home in a late field goal. Yeah, I remember Dieter Brock when you played against him in the NFC title game. Right. Look at a round goal. Why don't they put a dome on this place? Because the wind was just and they called like this game is over. Done. '86, November 86 Rams Bears, Soldier Field, Bears, the Rams won that 20 to 17. That's the one. Yeah, that was the last second field goal, but man, I used to know that kicker. I can't remember his name now, but yeah. That was not a fun game to lose, especially at home in that game. Mike Lansford. That was a kicker. I know we had butthead and have Mike Lansford listed here. Okay. Well, yeah, that's the guy that's not the name I remember. But yeah, obviously it's got to be if they got them, they got them listed as their kicker. But yeah, he had a big one, like a 51 yard or something to lose the game. Well, it's going to be an interesting game this weekend. The Rams were if they were coming in 0 and 3, I'd be concerned. I do think this is a chance for the Bears to get right. Do you expect Keenan Allen to play? I know he was upgraded a limited yesterday. I only want to play if he's 100% and he's going to be able to be a game day active and be ready to go the whole game. I don't want to get a trial and air guy on game day activation. Yeah. And he's a veteran that knows if he can go or cannot go. And then if it is a Tyler Scott or Colin Johnson or one of those guys, put him in. But you know, Cap, I think of the next two games as really a telltale signs of where the Bears are at and where they're going, because the Rams are good and they got experience at quarterback and then Andy Dalton playing for Carolina. You see what he did in his first start and he's going to be emotionally charged up. So I'm kind of on a little two game slate here to see, you know, to give you a better indicator of where the Bears are at. I think they're getting closer, Cap, offensively. They're getting closer. I think this, again, I said it last Sunday, I thought that was a win of a ball game. You let us look through our fingers. Tommy, I think they should be able to win on Sunday. They should. So a lot of said, he said that they're close to hitting some big ones. Come on, man. I, you know, I agree, but you know, I brought it up the other day. I'm also curious are the Bears in line for an identity change? And is this the era that the Bears have become a passing team or rather than a running team? And so if you allow, allow Caleb to throw it 52 times last week, you know, how many are you going to let him throw this week? And then if that's the case, are all these weapons that we've talked about the Bears bringing aboard, are the Bears going to become that, that passing team that we've always been curious about? By the way, I gave a stat yesterday credit to Brad Biggs. It was his stat since 2015 teams that attempt 50 or more passes the record, 23 and 141. Yeah, I mean, they're always in a catch up mode. And you know, there's not many quarterbacks that you rely upon to throw it 52 times to stay in the game. You know, so yeah, that definitely is a concern. But when you bring in all these past catching weapons and you still, you already have a couple of board, you got to be curious of where your team is going. Yeah. And listen, and it's something for us to talk about. Is it you were flusest way or was it Matt Waldron's way? Because Shane Waldron's way. What did I say? Matt Waldron. Shane Waldron's way. So my whole thought is that is it his way or is it head coach's way? Because you were flus told us he wants to run the football. That's what he said. That's what he said. Tommy. Monday morning. We got to run the ball. As the conditions deteriorate during the NFL season, it's mandatory to be able to run the ball. So, you know, I listen, I'm all for running the ball, but when you talk about the, you know, the roster that they have in place right now and Caleb Williams, you know, where are they going? It's just a question. I mean, I'm not answering anything. I'm just asking the question out loud. We will find out, have a great broadcast, man. We love talking to you. Thank you, Tommy. You guys. How do you hope? Let's see it. Tom Thayer on the hotline. Carks. Diring on a hot. Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Right. The front. Don't worry, call the car. Matt Hebrew flus. The head coach for the Bears spoke to the press yesterday. Some things that were eye opening will get to next on Captain J. Hood on the show. Captain J. Hood are back. Captain J. Hood is a big fan, man. Watch out, fellas. All Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. It's a Captain J. Good morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Our talk with Tom Thayer is always brought to you by the village of Rosemont and we're with you until 10 o'clock. Then Mike Greenberg comes in at 10 followed by Carmen Yurko at 12, White Sox baseball to take on the Angels, a 12 30 pregame right here on the home of the White Sox, ESPN 1000 into waddling Sylvie at 4 30 and then bears weekly with Jeff and Tom at 6 30, black and Abdullah at 7 30 right here on ESPN 1000. Many reflues the head coach for the Bears kind of chance to speak to the press yesterday cap as we get ready for the Bears and Rams don't forget full coverage starts Sunday morning with Jeff Miller and his fantasy football at 7 a.m. and all throughout the day with black and Abdullah and then Sylvie and Lance Briggs and Dion Miller right into Jeff and Tom for the Bears and the Rams. Maddy reflues. A lot of questions about the offensive line. Your impressions of Matt prior, yeah, we thought that prior didn't I shop and you guys all watched the tape, you know, that was firm in the pocket didn't I shot blocking some, you know, at times and had a couple of plays that he wished he had back but for the most part didn't I shot there was the improved since training camp. First of all, his attitude is great. He's a great teammate. He works well with Darnell right next to him. I think those that's a good partnership there that's what we saw and then, you know, learning the offense, you know, and always being firm in the pocket, he's a real good athlete for his size. You know, so I think it's firmness in there is good for the quarterback and also just his run block. You know, he's he can move people on some double teams, some single blocks and I just think he did a really good job improving, you know, and learning the way we do it. Prior to staying right guard just to look at him and right tackle that wall. He's the guy that we have flexibility with, right? He's got some flexibility. So that's what we have to work through, you know, we have to see where we are. That was that was talking about the opener in terms of where we need to flex and move around based on the health of Darnell. Many reflux. So look, he's got a lot of issues. He's got to address like a lot, like what? From offensive line to Waldra wants to throw the ball 52 times and four more were sacks. So 56 pass attempts to his number two wide receiver target, Keenan Allen hasn't gotten on the field. Do you push him out there? They are made a great point. I'm not playing him until I know he's a hundred percent. What if the dude's not a hundred percent for four more weeks? You sit him the whole time. Tom knows that even through week three, no one's a hundred percent close to a hundred percent. Sure. He's probably never going to be right because he's missed so much time in injuries before. We knew that coming through the door cap. We already knew I just he'd be nice to be available on third downs for a rookie quarterback. Yeah, you go. Oh, they got DJ cover rooms not open. There's Keenan or there's Cole. Yeah, there's a lot of opportunities there, a lot. But even if he says a lot on his plate, man, a lot on his plate, not to even mention the rookie quarterback. Yes. Speaking of him or the run game, yes, but the rookie quarterback you asked. Is the work in progress? You know, it's not totally all the way there after after the three games, but it's getting better. It's getting better. I do think that last week was way improved in terms of the whole operation in terms of the protection, in terms of in and out of the huddle, all the things that go along with just basic operation. And that's improved and he's going to continue to improve and you know, we're working through that. And again, we want to see some big improvement this week too. So thoughts from Mattie with loose on Caleb Williams. Yeah. And it is a work in progress. I think you'd agree with that. It is 100%. The numbers are what they are. I mean, but here's the thing. It has to manifest itself into wins. Correct. I mean, through for talk, you take the Hail Mary away. That was 42 yards or whatever. He's still through for over 300 yards. That's not a total that you just laugh at. I see growth. I see progress. Is he there yet? Absolutely not. You cannot throw that pass on the sideline that he threw. You cannot. But they have got to do a better job running downhill in my opinion, not always trying to run a stretch play or getting cute. Like Tom was talking about, why are you not under center at the one yard line? What no one still has answered for me. Well, and I know what Iberfus would say. It's a rotation. No, it's not. The running back situation? Yeah, when you're at the five yard line and it's fourth down, I meant to ask Thayer this one. Tom, if you're listening, text me, five yard line, fourth inches, Roshan Johnson, slamming in there. Get us the first down. He does. All right. Come on to the game. Why? Why am I taking him out? Get a lather up. Let's go. Well, I've given you the answer, but you don't accept the answer. All four plays, he's on the field. Bad coaching. Okay. That's fair enough. Again, some of these topics are not deep. But is that Iberfus? I mean, I know the buck stops with him. Is that Shane Waldron? Whose head coach of the offense? Waldron. Okay. Why do you go toughest yarn? We got to get this first down here, slam it in there, Roshan. Got it. All right. Come on out. We're going to run the wild cap. Why? We're first to go at the four, man. Why don't you have Roshan Johnson for consecutive plays? And if you stop me, God bless you. No, that's not what happened, Cap. Bad coaching. The buck stops with Waldron. Correct. That's it. That's it. Bad choices. Bad execution. And you get nothing out of it. Got a number of those against the Colts, you know, you're driving opportunity to score. Don't score because of bad throws by Caleb Williams or missed the field goal or that choice there at the goal line, you know, bad execution, bad coaching. Now you want to get better from that from the Rams game. It's better. All this stuff is just simple. It's a game you got to have, man. You follow one and three. You got issues. Big. Oh, doctor, come in here Monday. Every line will be lit up before seven because it always is. Yep. They're all waiting. When one hangs up, another jumps in one and three. I think they win. I do. Maybe I'm too optimistic. But one and three. Excuse me. I just say that all that it will be bad. It will be. South Shore. Corey is on cap and J hood. Corey. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, Cap. What's going on, Corey? We love you. We couldn't take his OC, right? That was one of his problems, right? Well, he picked them. He just was bad at it. Right. That's what I mean. You couldn't take his. He's everyone. I'm sad. And this looks like he refused. Because he refused. Right? Shane Walton, right? He did. So, see, I just told my brother this, man. We're going to be real like the Chicago can't get right because we can't get the coaches right for nothing. Let's own the players. You can't even get the coaching, right? So I have a question. How long do you think they will let him pick another OC or what if we don't do good this year? Oh, even versus gone. If they have to change OC, he's gone. If they end or achieve this year, Corey, I would expect a coaching change. It's what I asked for this past offseason. I didn't get it. He did. But here's the thing. You are built to be able to win at least nine games. And I had them nine and eight before the season started. If you can't even reach that and get you one of those last wildcards, then you have to have a change right there at the top. This will be the most crucial hire. If he's gone, the most crucial hire in the history of the franchise in our lifetime. Corey, can we ask you a question, sir? Yes, sir. So earlier this morning, Cap and I were talking about Derek Rose. You hear that he retired? Yes, sir. Okay. Yesterday, actually. Yeah. So I want to get your thoughts on that. So Derek Rose is retired and we asked a question out of all everyone that's from the shy. Where do you place him amongst the best athletes or wants to show you to me? I'm 46 and I got to watch him play a lot. I'm going to because he's from Chicago. He's number one. I mean, I grew up watching Markiplier to be coming, but Derek Rose. Isaiah, Isaiah, I got to ask that about Isaiah. Oh, man, I've got about a week, but between them two, yeah, he rose. I mean, he took to here at the heart of Chicago for years running. He rose. All that. He rose. I love Isaiah Thomas, though, man. I know he won't count. But he rose. Yeah, Isaiah was a better player. Yeah. No doubt. No doubt. All the same was amazing. Yeah. All right, Corey, we appreciate your telephone call. More of your phone calls coming up. Also the white Sox. They won again last night. Could they break the record for a futility this afternoon? We'll talk about it coming up next. Cap and Jay Hood will be there. weekday morning, 7 to 10 and we'll be there. Yeah. Cap and Jay Hood are back. I appreciate your show. I'm an Uber driver and for 7 at 10 every day, I've got you locked in. Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Yeah. That's kind of the good way. This one's going to fall. Talk is round the third coming home and we'll get on and we'll get on white Sox with a win in the fifth state history. There it is. The white Sox defeat the angels and they will play again, Sox and angels today at 1230 right here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. So cap, we could see history. I know that we've had a lot of friends and teammates that have gone to guaranteed rate because they want to see the Sox and their futility, the worst team in the modern era and they just keep winning against the angels. Awesome. Yeah, they came back again. The book was the other night down to nothing in the eighth. They get three last night. They blow a three to two nothing lead and a three to lead and then they do a really good job in the top of the 10th with a man at second. There's another man that on first, bam, double play ball, fly ball inning over and then bad at 10. He delivers again and they win at the bottom of the 10th. So you and I will be there today. We'll see if we see history. It's pretty cool that they just continue to just because it's been a horrible season as we all know at 38 and 120. Correct. That's where they are right now. But cap, what if they win again to close out the season at guaranteed rate? And Jason Benetti has an opportunity to call the futility, the former White Sox broadcaster at Detroit deck. I mean, it's in the cards. Yeah. Could you imagine that? Now, he listen, Jason does not hate the White Sox. I want to make sure that that's very clear. Correct. He's a White Sox fan just like I am. The way it ended at 35th and Vek was not great. It's not great. But imagine the former Sox broadcaster calling the Sox, well, just one loss and they will be surpassing the old Mets team. It might remind me crazy, it reminds me cap because you mentioned the other day. You know me. I like to have retro where if I if if I want someone wants to give me retro where I'll wear it because we work in the morning. So I'll just throw anything on saying Cleveland spiders gear out there because that was the worst team ever, right? Of all time. Me look. I think you told me like that. The modern era is the expansion Mets. Correct. 62. You said Cleveland spiders gear. Let's call it Jersey. Yes. Now that's something I would will be willing to rock that one. Yeah. You can absolutely buy it. Jay Moore, how about that man? Let's get some Cleveland spiders gear. Put that on that while you're DJing at the party. I'm with it. That'd be an icebreaker. Here's a Cleveland spiders t-shirt. That's got to be funny. It's got it's black with a Cleveland and then in the middle 1887 with a big ugly spider and then the word spiders underneath it. That's the worst team. Got to be. Are you rooting for the white Sox today, Cap? Wow. I was taking you so long to answer because I have to think through my answer. Why? I'm just going to be with our teammates. That's how it asked you. Are you rooting for the white Sox today, Cap? I'd like to say I was a history. I hope they get their ass beat. They're not winning six in a row. So they're going to lose. I'd rather be there when it happens. That's sad. You take that with me to the grave. Guess what? I've seen a lot in my life Cubs World Series, Blackhawks championships, White Sox World Series, Bears, six Bulls, and the worst team ever. I was there. You don't care about me at all. That's a lie. You're a Padres fan. Yeah. As in protests of the white. I'm a white Sox fan. Don't do that. Don't do that. You're in protest. Damn right. And I should be. You see this outfit? Yeah. He's wearing a crack. Seattle cracker thing to the game today. Are you? I'm not wearing this to the game. I just wore it. I just threw this on. Oh, you're going to change. Yeah. Anything for the Sox to win. Always. So if I told you that it's a hundred percent, that they're not going to win out the last four, they're going to set the record. Would you rather be there to watch it or have them do it in Detroit? It's painful to see it in person, but either way, I'm going to see it. It's going to happen. It's going to happen, cab. I don't. Again, I am, Jack, I don't necessarily have to see the history in front of me. It's already been a tough season. It's going to happen. Whether it happens today or happens in Detroit, it's going to happen. I'd rather see it. It's like watching your team get no hit or a perfect game thrown against you. You don't want it to happen, but if it's going to happen, you'd rather watch it. Yes. To America's. You don't understand because see, you don't feel the pain, like me and Dr. Brew. Correct. You don't understand what's going on. That is correct. Because keep in mind, you know, cap is only here for the relationships and the phone numbers and the dinners. He doesn't care about the ball club. He laughs at us, laughs at what's happening with the White Sox. I do not. That's not true. It's good for the city when they win. When I'm a cup fan, I don't root against them. Did this man not laugh at the White Sox a couple of days ago? Did he not on the show? You know, he's about the only one. I understand. A lot of people. I mean, it's actually so pathetic, it's humorous. I want you to add on this side of the table. I get it. I'm suffering. I get it. I'm suffering to an extent because at least I'm seeing good baseball in San Diego on a nightly basis. You are. You're getting a playoff run. It just sucks, man. I just hope and this is the thing I can't measure. I don't know if it hurts Jerry, Ryan's door. I hope it does. I hope it's painful for him. Everything that he's done and today could be the day. Hey, Jerry, you're the owner of the worst team in Major League Baseball. Congratulations. Congratulations. You like that? You're a baseball historian. You like that history? Stick that. Stick that history where the sun don't shine. Right here on the home of the White Sox, ESPN 1000. Out of the day next, welcome back to Captain Jhood. You're officially locked in on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN, Chicago. And now all the time for the Captain Jhood classic cut of the day. It's brought to you by the great people at Chicago cut steakhouse, David Flom and Matt Moore's dining jam. It's on the south on the north side of the Chicago River. You have got to try. Yes, it's boring, but it's boring. Whatever. It's not boring. Okay. Then you're bored. All right. So, what's going on with you over there? What I do. We're trying to take a call and conduct business here and then there's a chime on that side of the table. If something went off on my watch, I don't have a setting turned on. I don't know why I did that. My watch was ringing. Do you have a bad fall or no, was your phone call was coming through my watch at my phone at silent? You haven't heard my phone ring at all in months. Why don't you was to watch? How come that ain't silent? It's on silent, but I hurt, but it can't be because we heard it during the call with Paul. What is that? I think that was something Jay Moore played. I don't know why I have it on silent. That's what it was. Okay. Well, thank you very much. And that's all. Thanks. The classic cat ninja cut of the day brought to you by Chicago cut steakhouse on the cell north side of the Chicago River. Try that lobster cell with the champagne immigrant or what I had the other day when I had lunch with hoodie. The tacos are amazing. How good do those look? They look good. So I know what I'm getting next time. Yes. Where do you go? I'll take you. I took it. I had the salad because I need the salad. That's why I had. So you had the steak salad. Yes. And John had the steak salad. I went with the tacos when I was going to get the salad. They got. Oh my God. They were the best tacos I've ever had. Cap. Caitlin Clark was eliminated and the Indiana fever was eliminated by the Connecticut son and the best of three in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. Connecticut wins 87 to 87.81 I believe was the final. Yeah. 87.81. So here's the thing. The Indiana fever with Caitlin Clark was a great story. Caitlin Clark was a great story. Here's the thing. That team's going to get better and she's going to get better. This whole controversy around her has just really been ridiculous all the way around. From the league, from the fans and everything else. It shouldn't be polarizing. You're correct. Let up college basketball. Men and women, quite frankly, but for on both sides because college athletics saw a star. You know how this portal works where people are just going from place to place Caitlin Clark was was Iowa women's basketball and she set college athletics on fire. She goes to the WNBA. Yeah. His, her team wasn't very good, but the point is though is that this whole controversy on that she get too much spotlight to deserve all this. Yes, she does. Yes, she does. Someone has to be the pied piper in a given sport to make sure that everyone else eats and gets a claim and gets, you know, everything that comes to them. Caitlin Clark is leading the WNBA. Every time she's on TV, the numbers go up from a rating standpoint. Social media. People are interested in her story. So these slings and arrows against her are just nonsense and on top of that when you hear her interviewed, never an issue. Always classy. So if there's jealousy or anything that's around her, it should just be us exalting and celebrating someone that has really put the WNBA on the map this year. She's been amazing, amazing. Their team wasn't good enough. So they're out, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching her. I tuned in more to watch her play than any WNBA season other than when the sky won the title. Yeah. So all I'm telling you, Cap, is that there is in everything, there's a yeah, but there is a yeah, but with with Caitlin Clark. She's a first year player in the pros. She had her struggles here and there, but she's a first year player. And so she's only going to be able to continue to put the WNBA on the map. They've got multiple TV deals now, network deals. She's a part of that. Let me tell you something. The way Gino Oriama, he was a great coach, the way he conducted himself. This girl thinking she's going to come in the league in Diana Terrazi and all of them. They should be ashamed of themselves. How they treated this kid. No other women. I mean, again, it's about supporting women's athletics. So support her. She's part of women's athletics. Support her. Why does she just cast aside? That is a must see jealousy to joke girl. First team, all WNBA, by the way, and unanimous rookie of the year. Next team, all WNBA. So all you out there that dotted her, stick it. We thank you for listening and calling and being part of the program here on Cap and Jay Hood. It's a football Friday tomorrow. Thanks, Jack. And thanks, Jay Moore. We'll talk to you tomorrow. So long, everybody. Take that history from Chicago.
