They defeated the Angels yesterday by a score of three to two. A terrific pitching duel, but led by Cannon. I watched his shows many years. Cannon chasing the bad guys and look at 'em now. Starting pitcher for the White Sox. - William Conrad, this is really a cannon. Not William Conrad, the portly, rather. He wasn't obese, but he was totally not in shape to be a detective. But he would always solve the case at the end. - I don't know. That big guy was running after the guy. I don't know how he was doing it, he was running after him. Yeah, he was running after the criminals. You recall this, right? - I do. - What do I do? - I do with the Molo Mustache. (laughing) - Tan Raincoat to the East. But nonetheless, the Sox win three to two cap and eight. - This was a real cannon, Jonathan Cannon. He was outstanding. Outstanding, we had a zero, zero ball game. And then the Angels take a two-nothing lead. Bottom eight. Bottom eight. And I'm listening to Len and DJ. And I wanted to hear, what's he gonna say? - Right. - I had the TV going and I had the radio on in my Beats AirPods. - Mm-hmm. - I'm like, I gotta hear the two calls. Our guy, John Shriffon and Len Casper. - Yeah. - What are they gonna say? And all of a sudden, there's a double by Deloach. There's a double by Ramos. Oh, it's two to one. They got men out of two outs. Luis Robert up. Pop damn up on the infield. Gonna get out of it. And the clown second baseman misses the ball. - Yes. - It was like divine intervention. Hey, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, guess what? - Another night in the city. - That's right. Go home. That's exactly right. Go back to the hotel. And you know, because of the rain that we had earlier, you know, then we got the windy conditions, the swirling winds. - Correct. - So I was happy to see that, Cap. Again, even as a Sox fan that seen the worst season of my lifetime, it was good to see the Sox rally. Now here's the thing. The atmosphere was set. It says and announced 17,000 were there to be able to see what they thought was gonna be history. But you know what, the Sox fan was still bitter and they wanted to have Jerry here. If Jerry was there, he heard the fans say sell the team. Sell the team. You heard tripping and stone kind of lay out more times than not because what are you gonna say? The team's horrible. - Horrible. - It's not much conversation you could have, but when they laid out, you heard, when the Angels scored, a lot of sell the team. And it was loud in there. Sell the team. - I thought John had a good call. - Trippet had a good call at the end where he said for another night, it's gonna have to, history will have to wait. I keep acknowledged it. - We all know. - Like he didn't try to sell you. - Hey, that's a big win. - No, it's actually not. - Yeah. - Like it's gonna happen. They're not winning six in a row. And they've already got their spot in history 'cause they've tied the 62 Mets. It's not like they're at 119 trying to avoid it. - Yes. - But look, I'm gonna watch the game. We've got an event tonight up at few bourbon. All the boys are gonna get together. - Okay, but looking at this 37 and 120 ball club cap. - That is breathtaking. - Just understand, but I mean, we're used to it now because this has been the worst season of my life as a Chicago sports fan. And just watching this, the Evan Florida game, I watch every night, but this one you're locked in because you wanna see how they're gonna make history. And just, if you haven't watched Sox baseball season, you watched last night because you were curious. A morose strange curiosity to see a team lose 121 games. Just the scuffle, the inability to just get runners over or just swing at the first pitch. There's just no rhyme or reason. This is what happens when you've lost 120 games cap. The struggle is scoring out. The angels are not very good either, clearly. They're like fourth or fifth from the bottom as far as some of the offensive numbers that we've seen. But my God, I mean, you look at that lineup that still has Robert and Ben and Tendi and Vaughn in it and Sheets in it. And still to struggle to scuffling, just trying to get runs. - Right. - I just, I look at that game and I look at the games I've seen, I go, how's that gonna change next year? It'll be the same way. - The pitching will be better. Guys got some experience. Cannon, if true Thorpe is healthy. They got some experience. - Yeah. - But offensively? - It's a, it's a, it's a, it's really a struggle, boy. Man, this team could barely score three runs or four runs on a regular basis. But the thing, again, I look at, what taking the emotion out of it cap is when you look at a roster, it's kind of like anything else we look at when we review Chicago sports. We talked about the Bears a couple of years ago looking at that roster. You can't win by osmosis. You can't win just by luck. You just can't win just by coaching. At some point you have to have talent on the field of play. Same thing with this White Sox team. You might like a veteran or you might like a young player, but cap, when it comes down to it, if you don't have multiple guys, difference makers, on a nightly basis, then get on base, they can score runs, that can pitch the ball, they can close out. Man, you're just not gonna win ball games. And, and so no matter, we look at this roster and say, well, there'll be changes next year. It'll be a lot of the same. It's gonna be allowed the same for a while. Look at the teams that have clinched across Major League Baseball that we've seen. Fair. Seven, eight, nine guys on the roster that every night brings it. It's about, you know, 0 for 4, but someone else can pick up the slack. Who are the guys that are gonna pick up the slack on this roster right here in front of us? You don't have anyone to say, you know what? You're 0 for 4, I'll pick you up. Correct. Bad starting pitching, that's okay. We got a bullpen that'll keep you in it. That's okay. We'll come back in the ball. You don't have that. Like look at the Phillies. They go, oh, Harper's down for three days 'cause he's got a tight back or a hamster or whatever it is. Huh. We got Castellanos, Rio Muto, Trae Turner, Kyle Schwarber. We got really good starting pitching. We got a really good closer. Like, look into your Padres. My Padres. The San Diego Padres go, oh, Tati says down. Oh, okay. Well, we've got Manny Machado. We've got Xander Bogart's. We've got Dylan Sees on the hill. We got Suarez throwing 100 miles an hour at the back end. We got the new Tony Gwen in a rise. Right. At the top of the lineup, who rarely strikes out. Right, the first week of May. We need another bat. Okay, I'll go get you one. Here's the best hitter in the National League, Luis Arise. There's a batting champ. There you go. Play him a second. Yeah, Jackson Merrill, who can't legally drink yet. And he's going to be the rookie of the year. Yeah. Like, how does San Diego have all those stars? San Diego. This isn't the Mets with Steve Cohen, the Yankees. This isn't the Dodgers. San Diego. Name me one star in Chicago baseball. Give me one of a position player. Like, I think Justin Steele is the best pitcher in Chicago. He's a stud. Imanago would like to have a word. Yeah, but he's got to follow this up with another year. Because Justin Steele was, I don't know what, third, fourth. Oh, I know. And Sy Young last year, and he had a good year this year. But you got a guy, though. Like Imanaga, I know what you're saying. I know you're completely fair. It's a stud, but he's going to get traded. It's fair for you to say, show me again, when it comes to Imanaga. Yes. I get it. I think that is built to last. I think it is. I know. But give me one position player star in Chicago baseball. I'm talking star in Haps had a nice year. Suzuki is their best offensive player. Give me one, though, that you go. Oh, wow. They got a star. Now we're talking about two teams, right? I'm giving you two teams. You give me Cubs and White Sox. And there is not one star between the two teams. And then every night, I'm watching my Padres. And I'm watching Arise and Tatisse and Profar and Machado and Merrill and Bogart and on and on and on. And I got Dylan Sees in the starting rotation. Like, I mean, go to the Rangers, brother. Dallas is in a better market than us, whether it's Simeon for $175 million or Corey Seager. I mean, just keep looking at the guys they bring out there. I mean, come on. And they're not even a good team this year. Go to the Brewers, freaking Milwaukee. Yeah. Finding a way. Yellich, I know he's hurt. Jackson Churia, like, they're finding a way every day. And then Cubs reliever, they picked up Paredis. Yeah. No relation. I don't believe to our third baseman, Itza. He said, we got-- we'll let go by the Brewers. We picked them up. And I said, we yeah, because I'm a Cubs fan. He said, the reason the Brewers win, the energy in that room is unbelievable. The energy. Well, I don't see that energy in Chicago. I do not. We're talking about isolated cities. Like San Diego, that is the attraction, because they don't-- I mean, they don't have football there anymore. So the Padres are the attraction. And the ownership said, we will do whatever it is. We will overspend, because we have to compete against the Dodgers. Who do we have in Chicago sports right now? Do you understand my point? The reason-- well, I'm answering your question. You say, how come we don't have that? Because certain markets have to be able to overspend because they've got a rivalry in the same market. San Diego wants to compete with Los Angeles, because LA gets all the stars. They got all the money. And San Diego says, no, we're in Southern California, too. We're a draw, and we're going to be the playoffs, and we've got to beat you to be able to take over South, you know, Southern Cal. Right, because the Angels are nothing. Fair. Yeah. But who in Chicago sports do you go? That's a real star. Can we want-- OK, Connor Bedard, he's a star. OK, Jalen Johnson's an all-pro with the Bears. Beyond those two, we think Caleb might become a star. DJ Moore's a star. Give me who else is a star. Angel Reese. Oh, Angel Reese. She's not a star. She's a star personality. She's not a star player. You don't think so? No, absolutely not. Really? No. Absolutely not. She's a star personality. Super cool. Good rebounder. Can't score. I would also take a step back on Bedard, because-- here's why. Even though that he's a crown prince and everyone said, look at this teenager and look what he's doing, he also has to grow as a player. We have to wait to see how the Blackhawks build around him. I think that he's going to be a fine player, but he cannot really realize how great he can be until the Blackhawks score around him. OK. He can't do it by himself. OK, so he's got to take a step. Angel Reese, she scored 13 points a game. She shot 39% from the floor. Elite rebounder, 13.1 rebounds a game. So what's the difference between her and did is Rodman? Dennis Rodman's in the Hall of Fame now. He did that for-- She plays similar to him. Similar, she could get there. But I mean, this girl's 22. She got to be better than she's been. She does. Now, if you tell me in 15 years, she's got the numbers Rodman does, I'll tip my cap and say she's a star. You got to win 15 years, huh? [LAUGHTER] 10 years? 10 years? I worked 10 times as hard to get five times a credit. I mean-- Wow. When you shoot 39% and you're not a three-point shooter, and you average 13 a game to one year, she's on her way. I mean, she is one of the stars of the WNBA cap. She is. She's got a great persona. Great persona, but she's not a star athlete yet. And you make a valid point about Connor Badard. One year, the team was terrible. Looks like he's going. No question. But he's not there yet either. So who do we really have in this great city of sports? Not their persona. Who do we have that you go, wow, that's a star. Caleb's not there yet. No, you don't have that guy. When you fly into O'Hare, and you say, this is the city that-- and there's a blank there, then go back to Jordan and Ditka. Yeah, Jalen Johnson is the only elite-level performer in our city. Elite. And unfortunately for him, he's on defense. Right. He's a cornerback. Because no one on first take is talking about Jalen Johnson and how elite he is defensively. Right. They're talking about Caleb Williams, because everything is so offensive-minded. Because the person with the ball in his hands, the lion's shear at the time, that's the person that gets all the attention. How could Caleb get there? Could Angel Reese get there? Maybe. Could Connor Bedard get there? Maybe. Yeah. I think the city is flat when it comes to all that cap. And that's that star power. That's true. In this town? Yeah. That is pathetic. Yes. But you know, one thing for sure that we do have cap. We may not have the star power, but we do have. Ken! Here he comes. Wow. The portly detective getting out of his granada. There he is, cap, going after the good, after the people. And he's got himself a ham sandwich in one hand, a pork chop in the other, and Ken, finding a way. Starring William Conrad. There he is. The 25-year-olds that are listening going, who? No, google.com. Just think of a fat detective. All right, you don't have to say it like that. This is the truth. All right, leave him alone. He was effective. Tweet the criminal go. I can't get in my driveway! But we've got canon, if nothing else. My guy! Wow. He found a way cap, in a full suit. Dead. To get the criminals. I had to tie up from the best. Wow. Anyway. The White Sox avoided making history yesterday, but GM Chris Getz also spoke before the game. All of some comments from Chris Getz. [MUSIC PLAYING] So, Chris Getz, the general manager of the Chicago White Sox gets a chance to speak to the press before the game. [MUSIC PLAYING] I had these times when general manager speak. It's just very odd, like, why yesterday? I don't know. He spoke yesterday. I know they had a day off on Monday. It was the first game of this home stand, the closing home stand here. So, he spoke before the game. So, Chris Getz had a lot of things to say. How about this? How about this opening statement, Kev? Let's listen. I certainly want to acknowledge, you know, the record that we're up against right now. And I think it's really important to do a heartfelt thanks to our fans that have been with us through this very difficult, painful season. They don't deserve this. It's been very trying for me personally and our staff and everyone in this organization. Our fans certainly don't deserve to go through anything like this. I know that they pay money to come to games and watch games. They look to watch the Chicago White Sox as a positive outlet and we haven't been able to provide, you know, too many positive outcomes throughout the season. So, it's certainly my job and others now to, you know, focus more so on the future, learn from the past, and start building towards where the White Sox deserve to be for our fans and everyone that works here. Start building toward that, Kev. Start building, so where do you think the building blocks are right now? If you're building a home, where do you think of the process and the building is right now? I think they're surveying the land. Haven't even bought the land, the soil to make sure that it's OK to put a home on. It's not contaminated. Like they haven't put the foundation in yet. They haven't even graded the ground. Exactly. See, this is my issue that I keep telling you about. You have nothing to build on. I mean, some bad teams that we've known over the years, Kev, say, we got this kid, we believe in this veteran, we'll be fine. This will be our foundation. Look at the bears. Mike, they wanted to. Yeah, they hope they can win Sunday and take a step. But you go, oh, we got our quarterback. Yep. Now, five years from now, he may not be the guy. We don't know. We think he is. They got their quarterback. They got a couple of good receivers. Wow. Defense looks really good. Like they've got pieces. Could they use a new left tackle? Damn right. Could they use a new right guard? Damn right. Could they use a new center? Yeah. But the house is-- oh, wow, there's the framework of the house. How about that? It's coming together. It's got that Tyvex sighting or that insulation in there. Wow. Looking good. Coming together, right? It's coming together. Yeah. But then you get this, Kev. You get this, any regrets on building this year's team? You know, those decisions that we made, whether it be an air embumber trade or a dillancy's trade, obviously very talented players, the players that were acquired, were not directly brought in to make us that much better. In 2024, it was more 25 and beyond. It was to build our prospect capital, to eventually be more successful at the Major League Law Club. Kev, again, through the minor league system, you would think if the Sox had any gems, they'd already beat up here in September. Like, oh, hey, watch these guys now. In the future, there's going to be the next whites-- you got nobody. There are no cornerstones, you say, boy, I can't wait, man. I can't-- we don't have that. We don't have it ed Howard in the system, like you do. We don't have that. Have you seen the ball club? See, he talks about building blocks, all these trades they made with really good players, you know, again, trading off, dillancy's, and others. Well, I thought your minor league system was in the middle of the pack. Why are you worried about minor league talent now, don't you? What about Chris Getz fostering the next generation of white Sox before we became the GM? Where are those players? There's not much coming, and we heard the other day, I said, Colson Montgomery, he's starting to have his long-term prognosis not be so good. He's not that good. What? What do you mean? You see what I mean? He's not that good. See? I thought he was your hot shot prospect. That's a disaster. If that is-- if that's just going to be a long-term problem that doesn't fully bear its fruit. I mean, that's-- think how much Colson Montgomery consternation there's been the last two-plus years or so. Remember his hitting streak? That was the guy that was being sold to you as future white Sox, you know, reason for optimism. I mean, that's a disaster if he's just not going to be healthy. Charlie, I just don't know how, as an owner, you can sit there. Someone who loves baseball so much, he has got all the memorabilia going back to Jackie Robinson and all the stuff. I love baseball like cap loves baseball. But it's just no way, no way in hell that I could just sit there and allow this to happen. You're letting your home rot. That's what you've done. A beautiful home that you've had for you. Your home was a home that was admired by many owners across Major League Baseball. Your home is got paint chips. The concrete has cracked. You got bad lighting in there. You got musty rugs, shag, carpeting. Your home is rotted on the south side. And you allowed it to happen if you're Jerry Rhysdorf. You allowed it to happen. So my whole thing cap is that when I tell you that this is not going to get turned anytime soon, that's not just hyperboleed. I mean, I believe that is the case because you have to have a commitment. One way or the other, the commitment has to come from cash, actually paying for players, or being able to develop a minor league system in which you have kids that are coming through the system. With the orders have gone through it, the Tigers have gone through it, a lot of bad teams have gone through it, and come out on the other side as a playoff team, or much better. What about this outfit? - Oh God, I mean, come on, man. But if they had not, like so we had an interesting point yesterday. He said they announced what they're 10%. They're going to lower the prices. Isn't that what they said? - Yeah, saw that. - But they're also going to cut the payroll by like 35 to 40%. - Well, what are you cutting? - The Sylvie's point was, why don't you announce we're cutting the ticket price by the same amount we're cutting the payroll by? - Okay, we're going to cut 35% off the payroll. I'm also lowering the tickets by 35%. - To watch this? - Yes. So ultimately they're saying, you think this is bad? Wait until next year. - Right. - You think this is bad? This is going to really hurt. - Yeah. - That's amazing. And then Chris gets, I swear. He must be tough on as well. Striding to the microphones, telling everybody, hey, by the way, I know that this sucks and we're going to lap the 62 Mets. But I just want you to know, we're not going to go really deep in the free agency next year. Just ancillary moves here and there, but you're going to get some of the same next year. - Hey. - Thank you. (laughing) - What? Really? I think that people I really, really admire and adore and like over there. You know some of them in the front office? - Yes. - Like there are good people over there. Good people that work super hard, that have done a great job for that organization. They're not on the field. They're not in baseball ops. They show up every day and they give you a really good day's work. Whether it's creating a milkshake or working in socks charities like Christina O'Reilly, who's awesome or the people that sell sponsorships, all of it. And then you look over and you go, that, that side of the building sucks. Like how do you let it get to this level? - Just the temerity to step to a microphone and just let you know, yeah, you think this is bad? Drink our milkshake next year. - Right. - And it comes back in the day with just lie to you. At least they lie to you. They're just like, we're not gonna be competitive. We're not gonna tell cap. - Correct. - Like, yeah, we got this veteran here and this veteran, Ed Lynch would just tell you, yeah. - Yeah, we're working on it. - Yeah, let's say it's low. They're slow to remember. - Come to baseball, we're working on it. What? Working on it. Jesus, what a middle figure to the cub fan. Ed Lynch said, who cares about you? You're gonna come to ballpark away. 40,000 people, sunshine, beers cold. We're working on it. - Yeah. (laughing) ♪ My machine brings out a voice to the god ♪ - But this thing, I mean, holy. That's a good resume there. - You gotta squeeze out 55 more. What? - And we've run out of season. - You can play till Christmas, you wouldn't. (laughing) - Oh, doctor. That's why I'm a proud Padres fan today, Cap. You see him wearing the shirt? - Yep. - Proud. Full coverage all day Sunday right here on the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000. All right, Charlie, you ready? Jay Moore, you ready? We're ready for five burning questions. Let's start it off. - Number one. - Cap. - Gerald Everett or DeAndre Swift. Which player has become more of a detriment through the first three weeks of the season to the Bears? - Wow, I'm gonna say Gerald Everett. I think there's more there on a DeAndre Swift. Talked to DJ Maury yesterday, he's like, "Dude, he's gonna be really good for us." Really good. - Well, he hasn't been. He said, "Trust me, he's gonna be really good." Gerald Everett, I don't know if you needed to make that signing. Rather than spend, would he get 15 million? Seven and a half a year, something like that. I would rather have added an offensive lineman. - You know what that was though, as you well know, that's someone that the offensive coordinator knows. Waldron knows who Gerald Everett is and what he can do. - Probably he's on the ball club. - Probably. - As a suggestion. - Probably. But I would rather have taken that money and added, who was the center that we were talking about? You guys, Tyler Beattersch? - Yeah. - I mean, there were guys out there to be had. Like I was having this debate with Tommy and Olin yesterday about Olin would have taken it a little fishano at number nine, not Rome. And Rome went to his school. He said, "I love Rome." - I would have taken the left tackle personally. - Sure. - But I think you could have done both. You could have traded back into the first round. You got a lot of picks. You could have signed somebody in free agent. Seven guys went after the Bears in the first round on the offensive line. You could have done both. You absolutely could have done both. - You don't get a dunesé and you shore up one part of your offensive line. And now it's DJ Moore and the Morettes. - Correct. It's DJ Moore, Tyler, Scott, DeAndre Carter. It doesn't look so good. - It does not. - And I don't believe Keenan Allen's here next year. - Rome is here because Keenan Allen may not be here next year. - Yes. - Now if Keenan Allen is banged up and they get him on a one year deal, okay, two year deal. They're not giving him the $25 million a year deal. They're not. - And just make sure as we get ready for number two, I just want to say say, DeAndre Carter was not on our bingo card to even get targets. - And he's getting a lot of targets. - That wasn't in the game plan. - Yeah. - I mean, listen. - And he's looking good. - Let me just say that maybe it wasn't in our game plan. Maybe it was in the Bears. I just think that our focus was on the cold commit, DJ Moore, Rome dunesé and Keenan Allen getting the football. Well, Tyler, Scott was pulling up the rear. We just didn't expect for a car to be in the passing game as often. - Correct. - All right, so I got you down for the Andre Swift. More of a detriment? - No, you got me down for Gerald Everett. - Gerald Everett, I'll circle here. Gerald Everett, all right. - Now that could change, but right now I would say Gerald Everett. - All right, next. - Number two. - Cap. Should Roshan Johnson be the starter against the Rams and why? - I would still start the Andre Swift 'cause I think it's a chance to get him healthy in terms of the run game. His body's healthy, but his stats are not. If you can't run a ball against this team, it's never gonna happen. So I would try and get him going this week, but Roshan would be on speed dial real quick. - Real quick. - So that's your second back that you're utilizing. - Correct. - You know, back in the day, the running backs, would it be a thunder and lightning, two different type of styles of running the football? - And I think that's what this is. Roshan's much more of a punishing run-up between the tackles back of the group they have. Waddle made a good point yesterday, said that Khalil Herbert is shiftier so far through three weeks than DeAndre Swift. - That's correct. - And I don't disagree with that analysis 'cause I watched the tape like he did and you see it. Like, what are you doing? I'm watching him run into the back of Matt Proling. Dude, bounce it to the right. There's actually a little bit of a hole that you're gonna take on a safety, but make it miss, try and run over him. Pick up three, four, five yards. What are you doing? - For the amount of money that he was paid, he's not here to be a full back, to give me one or two yards. - Correct, that's not right. - So that's why I would start him again and see if I can get him going, 'cause I need him. - But if not a cap, you gotta make that quick switch because Roshan Johnson was getting the job done. I'm not saying it was great, but it was better than Swift, which is, you know, the tallest dwarf. - Correct. - Quite frankly, when you look at the numbers. - Correct, I'd have all three of them ready to go, but I'd give Swift a start. - Of all the conversations about the bears, and we heard a lot of it on TV and these clips we see on social media, the majority of the people that played the game or analyze the bears say, yeah, the bears just need to have more of a running game and that'll open up the whole world for a Caleb Williams, 'cause everyone sees when he's not sacked, when he's upright, how efficient he is throwing the football. And so, everyone pretty much to a man and woman are saying, what's the running game starts? What's it opens up when the offensive line opens the holes? It'll get the offense really going, but right now it's just constipated. - Correct. - Just is. So, he needs to continue to play good football when he gets clean pocket and he's got to minimize turnovers. He speaks today. I want him at the podium to acknowledge, hey, we put up some good numbers, but guess what? Not good enough. I have to take better care of the football. I cannot throw those interceptions. - Right. - I gotta look. I got the Andre Swift over any other side of the field, open on a checkdown who would have picked up a first down, but I tried to fit it into Rome. The one I tried to go deep early, remember that before the 56-yard field goal attempt, he overthrew Rome in the end zone, he could have run for seven, eight, nine yards. All of a sudden it's a makeable chip shot field goal for Cairo Santos, instead, you're trying to get him to make the longest kick of his career. - It's that in between though, when you're a rookie cap, it doesn't, again, it doesn't work for everybody. Yes, he should have run. Yes, he needs to be able to connect to his receivers more. Baldinger did a great breakdown. I'm sure you saw it, of these overthrows by Caleb. What kind of throw is it? And make sure that you're on the same page, because if you're throwing in a certain area, why is it 10 yards over the guy's head on the sidelines? - Correct. - 'Cause there's a disconnect there of communication of exactly what kind of throw it's supposed to be. And so, we're in the middle of five burning questions. We have more on the other side, here on the cap and Jhood Morning Show. Welcome back. - Welcome. - Welcome back to Captain Jhood on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. - It's five, five burning questions on cap and Jhood, ESPN triple. - We're with you till 10 o'clock, then Mike Greenberg comes in at 10, followed by Carmen and Yurko at 12. Could they surpass the 62 Mets for futility and baseball? Find out tonight at 6 o'clock. Oh boy. In the middle of five burning questions, here on the cap and Jhood Morning Show, let's go to the next one. - Number three. - Number three, cap. Okay. The LA Rams are this Sunday. You hear the game right here on ESPN with all the Bears games. All coverage all day Sunday. The Rams, the Carolina Panthers, the Jacksonville Jaguars. What could be the Bears record at the buy? - Rams, Panthers, and then the Jags in London. We going? - I don't know. - I don't think we are. - I've not heard anything. - Correct. - Use that, get the information from you first. - Correct. Hey, get your passport, we're going to London. - Yeah. - Rams, Panthers, Jags. I'm gonna make a bold prediction. - Oh, God. Bears win all three. - Charlie? - I like that. I think I actually really like them this weekend against the Rams. - Yeah, that's my best bet of the weekend. - It's a huge let down spot for the Rams. The Bears put some things together against Indianapolis and then Jacksonville is a complete disaster. - Yeah, the Bears minus, what is it, two and a half? - I, somebody called and said three. I saw it at two and a half, but it's moving around. I think it opened at one or one and a half. I would, or bet the money line if you'd want to protect yourself. I do, again, I'll make, I'll be proven wrong and that would suck. But I would tell you, I believe the Bears, I don't see a scenario short of a catastrophic injury. I don't see a scenario the Bears lose this weekend. - So, Cap, when I ask you about the Rams, Panthers in Jacksonville and what could be the Bears' record at the buy? You're saying the Bears are going to be four and two at the buy. - Correct, correct, correct. - You're in good shape then. - Oh, doctor. - And you get a buy week, get healthy. Guys are going to go, you know, wherever. Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, relax. We're good. Come back, reinvigorated and you're four and two. Let's go. - Thank goodness, the first, the next couple of games are at home, the other one is a neutral site for, I guess, a Jaguars, but the Panther game, that'll be Red Rifle coming in. - Coming in. - Correct. - Oh, God. - Yeah. - You don't think he's going to want to throw over 300 yards? I mean, he can't against this defense, he cannot. - No. - I'm just saying, though, don't you think he's going to want to be able to light it up against? - 100%. - Now that's a different Carolina team with him with his experience out there. Couldn't be Bryce Young, huh? That'd be awesome. - Nope. - If it was Bryce Young, that would... Well, first of all, before the season, we had that as a win anyway. - Correct. - So... - So, I'm excited for this Sunday's game. I really am. I'm not telling you they're going to score 47 points, like Mitch did with Tampa Bay. Do you remember that? - I do. - That was you or I, we're not together yet. Danny was just chastising me all morning. You're a guy, Mitch. You're a guy. I said, "Yeah, what are you going to do if he puts up 47 points?" And Danny, in the Jayhawk's inimitable style, said, "Good morning, everyone!" - Is that what he said? - No, he said, "I'll buy, "I'll cook, I'll cook breakfast for the entire station." - Bringing a bunch of eggs. - If he does. - He did. - And... Mitch threw six-touch drowns of bears scored 47 on the nose, and he gave me $100 that I'm buying out, can I buy out of the bet? - Oh, no. - And he gave me a $100 bill. - I do recall him at the griddle upstairs, though. He was. - I think he had. - Yeah. - Like Todd Steiner. Somebody come in. Yeah. - He was the short-order cook. That's what happened there with him. - Unbelievable. - All right, what's next? - Number four. What is your letter grade for Matt Ira Flus as head coach? - Career this season. - This season. - So you got to balance everything, Cap. One and two. I'd give him a D. Caleb is progressing. I'm seeing him take steps. He's the head coach. You'll get credit there. - Wow. Hold on a second now. Two weeks ago, we lost both challenges. I had excused a pick six one. Game-changing play late. You need it against the Texas. They didn't get it. Okay, the other one? I told you. Like, Ray Charles is up in the booth in his ear. I just thought you'd grade on a curve with a defense. His defense. - No. - No? - No. - So he gets no credit for the defense? - I didn't say that. But they're one and two. They lost to an indie team that stinks. - Wow. - Yeah. - Okay. - I'd give him a D. - Jeez. That's a heavy offensive grade you just gave him. 'Cause your animus is about the defense. That's your issue. - Okay, I'm gonna give him a D plus. - No, I'm just saying. Like, you got to give him credit. Some credit for the defense is good as it is, right? Is that productive? - Yeah, no question. - So C minus? - Okay. C minus D plus, what's the difference? It sucks. C minus, I passed a lot of grades with C minus D, not so much. And lastly-- - I always thought D was for dandy. Number five. - Or in my house, dumb ass. - Yeah. (laughing) - That would be too. (laughing) - Number five, Cap. Lastly, how many positions on the Bears need to improve for this team to be playoff worthy? - One, two, three, four, five. Six, seven, seven. Running back, all five offensive line is six. The other edge opposite sweat is seven. - Seven. - So three. - What? - So three. They're running back position, someone on the defensive line, and you said-- - All five offensive linemen. - The offensive line. - Not one dude out there earning his pay, not one. - Damn. - All right. So that's, so if it's seven, Cap, it's a long way. - No question. - A lot of improvement. - That's happened. - Back at work today. They're already in the building now. Shout out no shot in two minutes on Captain Jay Hood. Hannah.
