Mike Moore Media. Welcome to our monthly podcasts with the Theater Guild of Rockingham County. Christopher Wood is on the line. Hey Christopher, welcome back. How you doing? Doing just fine. How are you today? I'm doing great and ready for this production that's coming up next week and all kinds of good things. So bring us up to date on some things Christopher. Absolutely so you mentioned we've got a production coming up here soon. We're actually kicking off the month of October. Strong with Disney's Descendants. It's a musical about the children of all the beloved Disney characters and villains and they're all in high school and you know are the our villains kids really evil by nature and going to be a really great show. We have half to 60. Wow. What majority of those are students from ages 7 to 17 and we have several families that are involved that have multiple people on stage together so it's it is really a great way for us to kick off this season. Now when you say a cast of 60 that's a that's a bigger than usual isn't it? It is it is a very large cast for us. We have had larger but it's not common by any stretch. We're very fortunate that we're able to do this at the Rockingham County High School where they have a bigger stage and we can can work with more people and then just that we had so many people come out and audition we actually had I want to say like 83 people audition so it's tough decision to figure out who who's going to get in who's not when you have that situation but it's also great to have so much talent and so many people excited about theater here in our community. Sure yeah and as we've said before but this one really really brings it home a lot of family involved in in this production too. Absolutely yeah with it's family affair my kids all grew up on stage they're the reason I've got involved with the guilt we have we have twins one of them backstage and one of them back stage we have a mother and daughters and that are on stage together and they have one group one whole family father mother and daughter it's a it's a great it's a family affair looking back over the years we've had other shows with several families so this one is seems to be even more maybe a part I guess because it's the size of the cast we had more options for that sure but it's always great for people to get bring bring their family with them it takes it to a different level as far as the involvement and the excitement of everything with everyone involved. Oh of course it does yeah yeah so we're talking about Disney's descendants the musical at Rockingham County High School tell us when those performances are coming up. Absolutely so the first weekend in October which is believe it or not not this weekend but the next. We're just a week away opening night is next Friday October 4th and then we have matinee and evening performances on October 5th that Saturday and then we wrap up Sunday with our Sunday matinee. Okay and we can get tickets right now online. There are still tickets available you go online to tgrc-nc.com click on the buy tickets button and walk you right through it. We do still tickets at the door if we still have them available but it's definitely easiest and you get to pick your seats and everything if you go ahead and get them online so we definitely encourage people to do so. musical at Rockingham County Theatre Rockingham County High School Theatre Community Theatre at Rockingham County High School for that for sure okay all right and now you've got a someone you wanted to be a part of their program today so kind of set this up for us yes so as I said it's the children of the Disney the former older older Disney characters you're familiar with one of them has has agreed to say something here today I'll let her introduce yourself okay let's do that right now here we go the evilest of all and the mistress of darkness unless you have bond of being cursed I strongly suggest you'd end Disney's descendants this October 4th through the 6th at Rockingham County High School oh boy I'm getting a little game a little spook just listening to that there Christopher it's very October Halloween coming up a great way to start things off so no one wants to be on my left my left my left my bad side though definitely encourage everyone to come on out and see the show mmm-hmm all right she sounds good right there okay now what else do we need to talk about so at the same time that we have this show going on the same weekend there's actually another event happening one of our sponsors the Kiwanis Club they have their annual golf tournament that Saturday October 5th so you want to spend a whole weekend supporting the community you can go out to the the Greensboro golf course support the Kiwanis Club there and then come out and see a show later that day so definitely want to encourage people to check that out yeah yeah and that's that's the kids kids tournament basically isn't it I think they have a variety of things I think they have a kids thing to have a hole in one contest they have Captain's Choice groups going through and actually playing the green we have a hole that we're sponsoring for example things like that mm-hmm yeah okay yeah and thanks to the Kiwanis Club in Readsville just celebrating last year they're 100th anniversary and still going strong with all of their good work all right very good I believe that's excellent I know it is yeah and you meet you we just kind of mentioning them there but oh my gosh you've got so many people involved in in the community as as sponsors and businesses and maybe this will be a good time if you wanted to mention some of the individuals that helped make this possible well I'm not gonna list names because I will miss somebody I don't want to spend anyone I will say that we have been very blessed I was having dedicated members who come back every year and and are part of the guild and then business sponsors including yourself that support the guild in various ways we we could not as a non-profit we just could not exist without the support financial support and volunteers and everything else that we get from that community yeah yeah so thank you and and there's always room to add more if you are listening and you're a business owner and you'd like to get involved in the good work of community theater right here in Rockingham County the theater guild and their productions and what a what a great opportunity you have here and what's the best way to to right after the sentence that we're gonna need as many hands as we can get for example so please reach out whether you're a business or an individual who's just interested in theater we definitely have room for everybody sure yeah lots of good opportunities for sure all right what's next so I miss finishing the volunteer opportunity everyone loves to see the show and it's always an exciting to add auditions and the rehearsals the show happens and it's just and after the show things don't really stop after the show we have to clean up from the last shows we can get ready for the next one so October 8th and 10th which are the all week right after the senate we're gonna have a couple of warehouse cleanup night invite everyone to come out to the warehouse on Longdale Street and bring and wear your close-toed shoes bring any workloads if you have them and there'll be something for everyone we're gonna be rearranging some items in the warehouse putting them where they go maybe deconstructing part of the set definitely fill in the dumpster with with shrapnel and and things like that so we can clear the space of the next person's next step builder has a room to work when they come in to get ready for a piece of my heart in November Wow okay so what are the times on that eight and ten and we know the dates but what what time thank you yes seven to nine p.m. okay and we will put it on the on the website as well as our socials as well so we'll be trying to spread that word now okay all right so cleaning it cleaning up by cleaning out the warehouse there October 8th and 10th seven and nine of both nights okay that sounds like that would be kind of an interesting thing to do for sure okay all right now speaking of upcoming productions after Disney's descendants the musical yes so yeah October is packed so yeah we have the descendant and then we have cleanup and then we actually have auditions that next weekend the 11th 12th for our next production which is a piece of my heart if this is a drama about six five women who six women who were in the Vietnam War and it's about their their life before at during and after the war it's very touching even it's right around the time of Veterans Day and it's going to be a great great production I'm really excited about it but auditions are October 11th at 6 30 October 12th at 3 o'clock at RCC Rockin Community College and if we have callbacks those will be on Monday the 14th at 6 30 as well okay great good sounds like a good production for sure let's find out a little bit more about that right now hi these women these nurses these pioneers really who went over to help and serve in the Vietnam War that we really don't hear stories about so this is a great opportunity to learn maybe about something you didn't know about something in American history and see a different perspective we can't wait to honor our veterans of the Vietnam War and all of our veterans actually both men and women no matter back from a production I was it okay I got you yeah all right okay so anything else for you and me right here Christopher well yeah so October's not over okay again it's a busy month we've got the first weekend we have auditions the next weekend and then the weekend after that we are participating in the creative trail which is sponsored by the Rockin County Arts Council it'll be up at Mayo State Park there's a short walking trail the people can come and walk and as you're walking you'll come to various stops where there will be some form of art being presented I don't know if there'll be musicians or painters or poets I do know that there will be some people singing songs for the theater guild or have I think three different people or groups that are coming to sing and it's neat because if you walk the trail it when it starts at four o'clock you'll see one performance and if you come back and walk it again at five o'clock you'll be a different performance Wow well they'll rotate through so it's a really creative way to to make sure people are experiencing the art also gets you outside and and maybe into a part of the county that you're not familiar with yeah definitely encourage people to check that out the creative arch trail October 19th 4 to 6 p.m. you know that sounds like a really cool experience for sure so yeah October 1946 at Mayo River State Park that's
