(upbeat music) (upbeat music) - What up everybody, good morning. Welcome to Philly Philly with John Marks on a football Friday. Can we get some other cliches going on here? Tyler Zoule, everybody's working for a weekend. - Thank God it's Friday. Thank God it's Friday. We have another Eagles game on Sunday to get this bad taste out of our mouth from Monday to football. But will we get the bad taste of our out of our mouth? We'll talk about it coming up here. But Philly Philly with John Marks on PH.L.Y. As always, brought to you by Bette Parks, get to the Bette Parks app right now. You will see the Eagles at plus two and a half, two and a half point, rude dogs. We'll talk about it in this opening segment. I have something on the Eagles in this opening segment. I wanted to start here because I feel like that I need to just get it off my chest to say it because I don't know how much more we'll mention it for the rest of the show. So I'm already fatigued with the conversation and I'm sure it's not over. I think everybody needs to take a step back with everything that's going on right now with the 76ers arena thing. I'm just surprised at how loud the opposition is to it. And let me just say this, all right. We're going to get through this together. Tyler Zoule, if we had to put the city on our back and get through the new 76ers arena together, we can do it. I'm here for you, all right. I helped do it with Nick Foles. When Carson Wentz went down, I came on the air at WIP and I said, this team's going to be OK. Nick Foles will win a Super Bowl and I'll get him tattooed on my back when they do it. I helped carry this city. No one's died, just so everybody knows, no one's died. There have been no deaths with the 76ers and the city agreeing to a new arena, all right? Just let's keep it simple. I'm not the smartest guy in the world, never, never, never try to be, never have acted like I am, never has said that I am. I try to keep things simple. I'm a Philadelphia sports fan. The 76ers ownership, the organization, the franchise is going to build a new arena in center city, Philadelphia on Market Street with all the bells and whistles, a state of the art arena where the Sixers are going to play. And we're pissing and moaning and screaming and yelling and complaining to levels. I'm even surprised. I know people don't like change. I can be a part of those people as well that don't like change and this is going to be a change. We're so used to having everything in South Philly at the complex to where you don't need to think, you don't need to do anything, you drive in, you park in the lot, boom, you go home after the game. This complicate things a little bit. It may not be as easy to get into the city. You may not want to take public transportation into the city, but it's okay not to have every one of your arenas or stadiums in South Philly. It's okay, you're going to have to change. We evolve as people. We evolve as Philadelphia sports fans. The 700 level doesn't exist anymore for good reason. You can't have that in 2024, right? We evolve as a city, we revolve as a fan base and this is for the better. It's okay to put an arena downtown. It's okay to put a stadium downtown. Philadelphia is a world-class city. It always bothers me when people that have never been here talk about Philadelphia like it's a dump and it's trashy and everything else. No, Philadelphia is a world-class city, world-class restaurants, world-class bar scene, history, culture, everything else you're looking for. It is up there with New York, Boston, Chicago, all the other great American cities, Philadelphia is right there with them. You know what those cities have? Downtown arenas. It doesn't mean that you have to have a downtown arena but to act like that the 76ers have done something wrong and they want to build, God forbid, build an arena somewhere other than South Philly, they'll have to build something in South Philly. You don't have to put it there. This is a world-class city. Do you know what an arena downtown may look like? Maybe it's actually awesome. Maybe it actually makes Market Street, right now a place that's really struggling. Maybe it does revitalize that. Maybe it becomes an area in the city that is great. I understand the Chinatown stuff and I'm not telling you that there's not concerns. I'm not telling you that you even need to like the idea because even I have said, I don't know if it makes me more likely to go to 76ers' game. It probably doesn't. I'm all about convenience. It's more convenient for me to just drive the South Philly park, boom, go in. I get it. I get it. But this ain't Burger King. It's not about you. It's about the 76ers and where they want to build their new building. They don't want to stay at the Wells Fargo Center. Contrary to popular belief, they don't have to build in South Philly. I saw a lot of people in the comments, "What can't they just stay at the Wells Fargo Center?" It's fine. So if you're renting an apartment and like your apartment's fine, the rents a little bit higher than you would like and it's been fine for the last couple of years. But now you're looking at your life and you're saying, "I'm ready to buy my own place." Tyler Zulu is probably going to be doing the same thing here coming up. He's writing, "You're reading my mind right now? What is happening? Are you in my head?" You get to a point as a person, as a family, as a sports city where you're allowed to evolve past being a renter. You're allowed to evolve past having to stick an arena or a stadium in South Philly. By the way, it's not as cool as you think. It's another thing I've seen from people here on social media. Oh, I hear all the time how awesome it is having the stadiums. I have friends from out of town that are like, "Oh my God, I'm so envious." It ain't that good, people. It's nice, it's convenient. It's okay to have one of the stadiums or arenas elsewhere in downtown Philly. So if you don't wanna go to games and it's less likely you're gonna go to games then don't go to games. That's fine. But something tells me you weren't going to a lot of games anyway to see the 76ers play. So Tyler, we'll get through this together. I know you're starting a young family. You're a newlywed, you're gonna be probably looking to upgrade and move out of one bedroom apartment. It's true. We all do. I bought a house with my then girlfriend who became my fiance. They became my wife when we had two kids. We went from the townhouse to the regular house. You evolve as a family, as people. As Philadelphia sports fans, we need to evolve. It's okay to have, and I'll repeat this, a state-of-the-art new stadium with all the bells and whistles as opposed to the Wells Fargo Center. And I'm gonna be kind to the people at the Wells Fargo Center that is average at best. And is a 30, almost a 30-year-old arena, 30 years old. And they just sunk a ton of money into it. They had to. It needed it badly. I'm actually excited for the Sixers to get a new arena. I think it's great. I don't know why people are so upset about it. So, I think that there are certain arguments about this new arena system that I think are fair. I don't think they're all, there's tears to the fairness of certain arguments. The argument that I think is the worst is the one you brought up where it's like, oh, it's so cool that everybody's, all the stadiums in the arenas are right there. And Flyers and Seven makes a good point. When's the last time you're inside the Wells Fargo Center and you went, yeah, it's really cool. The link's right there. It's really cool that CBP's right there. It's conceptually speaking to be able to say when there is a one o'clock Eagles game that parlays into a eight o'clock Phillies playoff game, like that's pretty dope to be right next to each other. But you know what also it causes? Traffic. A good lock, like just a massive amount of chaos around the area where they're saying park in center city or park, you know, take an Uber down or whatever the case may be. It'd be like the argument for the proximity and the South Philly sports complex, I think is the worst of the arguments. You know, if you want to talk about transportation or you want to talk about uprooting lives and livelihoods in Chinatown, those all have merit to arguments. No doubt about it. The sports complex argument is I think is a silly one. - Yeah, who cares? Right? You can't have, that's the only place you're allowed to put a stadium or an arena. Somebody named Maggie Hart, I just saw this on Twitter. The sixers owners want a downtown arena to get richer. Full stop. It's not about revitalization, economic development or livability, all of which will suffer if the arena gets built. We deserve better than a mayor who caters to the whims of billionaires over the public good. - Like, all right, again, I'm not telling you there's not a conversation about what's going to happen to Chinatown. I'm not like, I know that it's more complex than keep it simple, stupid. John Marks is saying right now. But if you think, and you got to be realistic about this everybody, if you think that the city of Philadelphia was going to allow the 76ers to leave and go to New Jersey, then you're nuts. Mayor Parker wasn't going to do that. Nobody on city council was going to do that. Nobody in the labor unions were going to allow that to happen. The sixers weren't leaving the city. - Hey, by the way, speaking of the sixers, remember back in the radio days we would play the big breaking news sounder? Sixers have some breaking news. Maybe our first breaking news on this show together. - Seriously? - Yes, just in. Shamshiraniya. Joellen Bead has signed a three year $193 million contract extension with a player option for the 2028/2029 season. - Oh, there you go. - You imagine getting almost $200 million for three years? - The NBA is unbelievable. - The contracts are crazy. - It really is. So just, I've never given my opinion on Joellen Bead here on the show, so I'll just do it right now. He's an amazing talent, and I have big time in Bead fatigue. And I'm not trading him. I'm, your best course of action is to try to win with him. I know at the end of every playoff run people get the fatigue and they say, well, what are you really going to do here? I don't think they're ever going to win with Joellen Bead. I hope that they do. Paul George was easily the best move that they could have made. It's a no brainer to lock in Bead up long term because you can trade him anyway. It doesn't matter. He's just locked up longer. It's a no brainer to keep him long term. So it's a good move by the 76ers. He makes a ton of money. He's an amazing talent. He's a draw at the box office. We're sitting here talking about a new downtown arena without Joellen Bead and this team's regular season success over the last few years. I don't know if we're talking about a downtown arena because they're not going to want to put a product out there that is a crappy product. And people are going to say, yeah, I'm not going, I'm not going to eighth in market, seventh in market, ninth in market to the sixers when they suck. So that's actually a point, an interesting point you bring up because I was thinking about the timeline of when this building is supposed to be done construction. I believe they said 2031 is the expected opening date. 2031 to me is the end of Joellen Bead's career. Let me rephrase it. Maybe not the end of his career. He's probably not here. No, he's not. I'll just say he's not here. His prime has passed him at that point. So Tyrese Maxie would then be 30, I think. He's probably here. He's still probably here. Paul George is not going to be here in 2031. You're talking about a very different looking sixers team when that arena opens as opposed to right now. So now on top of having a world-class talent like Joellen Bead and having to, you know, a former superstar who's probably a, is Paul George still a star? Is he, he's not a superstar anymore. He's a star. He's a star and a budding star in Tyrese Maxie maybe closing in on like, you know, that fringe in between star and superstar. On top of having the talent to be a competitive basketball team, I think you have to maximize your results for as long as you can to kind of kick the bad years down the road a little bit, because come 2031, I'm not sure if this team is going to be a super competitive basketball team. We have no idea. Right, it's so long away. It's so far away. So you have to do what you can to place like the next three to five years in an absolute championship window. I don't know if they can, if they're good enough for a championship, but adding Paul George, extending Joellen Bead, having Tyrese Maxie, you have at least done your due diligence on putting the product on the floor that is going to give you an opportunity to succeed, knowing what's coming down the line. Well, on Instagram, Joellen Bead posts the following. The picture is of him, his son Arthur, his, they're not married yet. So it's fiance, I don't know. I don't know the answer. His significant other Josh Harris is there. He's pumping his fist. Joellen Bead is a big smile on his face. And he's looking over the contract. And then there's pictures of him being dribbling the ball and then another family picture of him, his fiance and his son. And he writes, Philadelphia's home. I want to be here for the rest of my career. I love this community and everything you've given me in my family. There's a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship. And I think we're just getting started. Trust the process. I feel like Joellen Bead wants to be here. There was a long time where I didn't feel like he wanted to be here. Where it was only a matter of time where there was failure and more failure and the city was going to turn on him. And he was going to turn on the city and boom. And there's been moments where he kind of flexes muscles and was like, just be careful what you wish for. The reality is that this dude needs to figure out how to be a winner. And if he does that and that may take somebody coming in and I'm not talking about a superstar that shows him how to win, he doesn't know how to win. And I know that that's almost a cliche, but they lose games that they can't lose. He comes up small in games that he can't do that if he wants to be a championship player. Do you think winning a gold medal helps in that regard? I mean, might help in recruiting in terms, well, I think in terms of like understanding what, you know, the greatest scope of what winning a title is. I mean, I think it has to kind of show you a, because you know, it's, it's hard. I understand they put together the best team and they were by far the best team. And it's, you know, full of NBA talent. Yeah, but still, he's still hard to go win a gold medal. You know what I mean? We've seen these teams. I mean, they, they almost lost. I mean, it's not like that they, this was the dream team in 1992 and they're playing in goal. Oh, internationally are really good professional players that play together year round. These international teams are better than they've ever been. Yep. Yeah. I hope so. I like Joelle sometimes. There's other times that he drives me nuts. The flopping. He can be really erratic when he gets off of his game and he gets to worked up. He's all over the place. He's the most talented player that I've ever seen in any sport in the city in my lifetime. Joel Embiid's the most talented player that I've ever seen. He does things on a basketball court that amaze me. He's also a center and he's also injury prone. And it's difficult to win with a guy that can't be overused with the ball in his hand. That's why he needs help. So if you were to ask me, what's the reason why the Sixers haven't been out of the second round of the playoffs during this run under Joel Embiid? I would put it at about 50 50, like 50% the organization for not putting, putting the players around them. 50% for him for having this losers thing about them. I don't know. But like now's the time. Now's the time for Dara Morrie. Now's the time for Joel Embiid. He has Paul George, Tyrese Maxie, turning into a star. I really like Nick Nurse. I think Nick Nurse is a good, is a really good head coach and he's a huge upgrade over Doc Rivers. Now's the time, man. So I will, I will say the early rendition of the Joel Embiid teams, you know, especially, you know, the year they lose to Toronto, listen, the triple, the quadruple Doynk or whatever it was or if you know, bounce and still bouncing around, the Kawhi shot, that with standing. I thought there were like the going out the night, the night of the game and when he was sick and whatnot, I think that-- And sneezing and sneezing and sneezing and sneezing. That, the early portions of those of that Joel Embiid like the getting his diet and health in check and understanding what it takes to be a world-class athlete, I can get your point there. Over the last couple of years, I've watched this guy battle through knee injury, through a foot injury, through getting poked in the eyeball, to having an orbital fracture and continuing to battle through it. Is he 100% Joel Embiid health-wise because of it? He wasn't. And maybe that's detrimental to the success of the Sixers because of the fact that he's your best player and he's not at 100% come playoff time or in the second round. I think that you have to split the Joel Embiid era into, this guy got locked in a couple of years ago and I think for the most part has remained locked in to play through injury, to battle through understanding, he got better against double teams, he became a better passer, he's become an even better defender as he's gotten older. I think that the maturation of Joel Embiid was significant over probably the last like three seasons. He went from being a really, really good player to a great player with a better work ethic and understanding of the game. The fact that they had one team that I felt was a championship level team and it was the year that they brought in Jimmy Butler. - Right, JJ, yeah, that was a great team. - Yeah, that was a great team. - They brought Tobias Harrison. - That was the only team that felt to me like a championship caliber team. That is on the, that's on-- - The organization. - The organization. - And it was on the head coach at the time, Brett Brown clearly needed to be, they needed to replace Brett Brown, there was no doubt about it. And then I felt that they needed to replace Doc Rivers, there was no doubt about it. The outside factors of Ben Simmons and things like that play into factor to it, I think 50/50 is lofty. I think it's actually really lofty. I think it's closer to maybe a 20% because of the early, Embed, the young kind of inexperienced, maybe a little immature Embed. - He's with Jordan. - This Embed is a different man, he's a different player than that guy was in 2019. - Yeah, yes, yeah, he's evolved for sure. But I have to account those years on Embed and put it on Embed. I mean, there was the time when he found out he wasn't winning the MVP and he moped that entire game and he was a practice not talking to anybody, right? So, but I agree, I mean, he has, he's evolved. I don't know if you would have seen the same Instagram post a couple of years ago. - Yeah, I think the maturation process has been huge for him over the last couple of years. - Yep. - And I think that happens with all of us as we become adults. - Of course, right? - Of course. - I was an idiot at 21. - Yeah, but you're also, you're 30 years old, you're married and you're first kids on the way. When I was 30 years old, I was waking up under some, you know, on the floor of some guys, you know, some, my buddy's apartment. - That's fair, understood. - You know, like we all evolved differently. - But that's what I'm, so he's a dad now, right? He is, he is, he understands, he knows how to be a pro, he's a pro's pro and, you know, and he understands how to go about his business as a professional and how to go about his business, not only as a professional, but as a guy with the weight of the world on the shoulders. Because he's, because like you said, he is the best player in this city. - It's, it's, he's, and he's not a guy, like with Iverson, he was always out. With Lindross, you had concerns about that. He was a man about town a little bit, you know what I mean? And beats a loner. I think it's his biggest thing is realizing that everybody on that team in that organization looks to him and they're taking on their personality or really like even during a game, if him beats out there and he's mad and he's moping around, guys, people are walking on eggshells. I haven't seen that. And beat has done pretty much everything that I've been looking for the last few years. So I'm happy. All right, let's, what do we have here first this morning? - Yeah, I guess I should probably do my job, huh? - No, we don't, we have a lot going on. You were doing post game last night. And you're going to update us on the Phillies quickly because I really don't want to spend too much time on that game last night. - Yeah, I don't blame you. - Let's, this is, this is me doing the production side on the fly. Tell you about our friends over at Rite Aid and Shady Reyes. - Let's do it. All right, let's talk about Rite Aid for a second. And Shady, and Shady Reyes? I don't think I've ever talked about Shady Reyes. I'm a big-- - Oh, believe me. - And I can tell you about all about Shady Reyes. I love their product. - All right, well, you can do that. Let's talk about Rite Aid for a second. 'Cause if you have a lot of refills like I do, if you have snotty kids at home, I mean, my youngest is just like yesterday. I'm like, oh my gosh, it's not coming out of her nose or whatever. You need tissues, you need over-the-counter medicine. You need prescriptions when they have the strep throat and the ear infections and everything else. And that's why, like I go to the Rofo Rite Aid, the Rorsherd Rite Aid, they're amazing in there. And I have a My Pharmacy account. Refill your prescriptions, schedule a vaccine. Get everything that you need. And it's right there at Rite Aid. So get started, Riteaid.com/mypharmacy enroll in automated courtesy refills, free and easy. Most of your prescriptions will qualify and ask your pharmacists. Maybe you wanna get to pick up all your medications at once. See, I enjoy the process of going in the pharmacy and picking up everything and saying hi to everything, to everybody. Maybe you don't wanna do that. You just wanna go, hey, I wanna go twice a month. You can seek them to go once a month. Get all your medications at once so you only have to make one trip. Restrictions may apply, transfer and refill your prescriptions, set up medication reminders. You can do it all in the app. So download from the Apple App Store or Google Play, transfer your prescriptions, do whatever you gotta do, but get to Riteaid. Go to Riteaid.com/transfer. Riteaid, carry pharmacist, write it, answer questions and help you stay healthy. Get your prescriptions along with anything at Riteaid you may need over-the-counter medications, household products, cosmetics and more energy drinks, which I often get from Riteaid. - You know. - Just ask your pharmacy team for details, restrictions, apply. These are actually dollar stores. - Oh, you went with the 3D today? - Well, yeah, 'cause they're dollar and a quarter, 'cause the dollar store is a dollar and a quarter for a lot of products. And this is whatever the 3D is, it tastes good. So I will go in with a 20 and I'll buy however many that gets me for a $20 bill. - And math is hard. - Well, we're at it. Let me tell you about our friends over at Shady Rays because John, I don't know if you know this or not or you see me 'cause, you know, it's still kind of, not, it's not fully light out when we come in. - No. - I always have my sunglasses because I am a man that gets headaches very, very easily. I have issues with, there you go. I know we have a pair in there. I have issues with migraines and glare off of cars. And John, we're getting into the winter months and you know what's one of the worst things for me is? Glare off of snow. - Yeah. - It's terrible for me. So that's why I have my Shady Rays and that's why 300,000 people have rated Shady Rays five stars because of their durable frame. And the crystal clear optics, I can't stress enough how important the polarized lenses are for me and my health on just an everyday basis. And if you're, even if you're just looking for a cool pair, they've got hundreds of different options to choose from. So you're gonna find a perfect pair that matches your style. You may be even able to get a style in your favorite team's color scheme. Maybe you wanna get a Joellen bead pair. I'm sure they might have a color scheme that gives you a Sixers look. But I can't stress enough how important your health of your eyes is. And if you have issues with the sun or glare or staring at screens all day, Shady Rays is the way to go. And exclusively for our listeners, Shady Rays is giving out the best deal of the season. If you head on over to Shadyrays.com and use the code PHLY, you will get 35% off a polarized pair of sunglasses. Try it for yourself, the shades that are rated five stars by over 300,000 people, including me. John looks cool with them on there. So that's 300,001. There you go. Shadyrays can't be beat. - These are great, man. These are compared to the sunglasses I have my bag. It like brightens things up along with. - I'm telling you, man, the polarized lenses are the way to go. - Can I steal these? - No, because everybody uses them as a pro. - I know they're a prop, which I don't like putting on if other dirty people put them on, but I, come on, hook a brother up here with some Shadyrays. These are the cost of, all right. So I'll- - 35% off, that's the best deal I've seen. Like, I- - It's amazing. - Listen, we always talk about all of our sponsors. They're all great. You can tell when somebody really means well about the sponsor that they're talking about. - Yeah, they're not just free copy. - Shadyrays to me is that, is that group. The fact that you get like risk free, like not risk free, but like, you know what I mean? Prevention, loss prevention, all that kind of stuff. - Hey, man. - That's important. - Damn right it is. - And you got cool, polarized lenses. You end up looking cool on your morning TV digital radio show. - Listen, I'm gonna wear these to the right, until we stop talking about the Phillies, because I'm too cool to worry about the Phillies right now. So I'm gonna give you four minutes. Let's go to Tyler for what happened last night with the Phillies, because- - Yeah, I- - It was very easy to walk away from that game last night, and then I checked back in. You couldn't do that, 'cause you were doing a watch along, and then a post game on PHL. - Oh my goodness. We would talk about a drag. Yeah, it was pretty ugly yesterday. I think two words that sum up yesterday's game is Taiwan Walker. - Sure. - Gave up two home runs in the first, down to nothing early. Phillies lose this one, 10-6. We talked about it before the show, John. You and I were talking off the air. It just felt like one of those games where the air was just deflated out of the Phillies offensive bag, because the Phillies crawled back a couple of times, tied it up at two, made it four-three, ended up scoring six runs in this one, and it just felt like every time they were trying to call their way back. Taiwan Walker struggled through three and a third. Jose Ruiz did not pitch particularly well on the fourth inning in his cleanup role. Jose Alvarado gave up a run. It was not a particularly strong night for the pitching staff. Five home runs allowed overall for the Phillies pitching against Metz offense, and the magic number stays at four in the National League East. They have still not yet clinched a playoff spot. The only team to clinch a playoff spot so far is the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League. The Yankees have clinched a spot in the American League. The Guardians have won the AL Central as well. But the only team in the National League right now in the playoffs is the Milwaukee Brewers. And John, I think it was a pretty straightforward loss for the Phillies last night. Taiwan Walker was terrible. - Yep, didn't, so I guess the biggest story from last night's game, of course the Taiwan Walker, but as far as strategy was, they sent him back out for the fourth inning. So he'd given up four runs, two in the first, two in the third. The Phillies score two in the third, one in the fourth. And so now it's, it's, they sent him back out for the bottom of the fourth. It's four to three. The way the game started going down, the way they did, it's like four three. Do you send Taiwan Walker back out there? Rob Thompson talked about it after the game. This is courtesy of the NBC Sports Philadelphia. I believe it's Matt Gell that's going back and forth with him. Here's Rob Thompson on the decision to send Walker back out in the fourth. By the way, real quick, the Dodgers also have a playoff spot clenched last night. They did clinch a playoff spot, yes. - Yeah, they won 20 to four last night over the miles. - Does he go back out there for the fourth inning? - I'm not going to burn the bullpen. I think it's just a case by case. Two of our right handers, if we use them tonight, they're down the wall, and it was a down game, the whole game, every time we scored, they answered, so we're constantly down. Your mind wasn't a spot in the fourth inning. - Two of our leverage guys? - No, no, just to get someone else on that. - Who? - I don't know. I mean, you know, I was guys that are low leverage guys. And I don't really want, and we've got a game tomorrow. We've got a game in six days in a row, so you started using all those guys up and what happens tomorrow if you get down. - Like sound thinking, his reasoning behind it isn't crazy. What I didn't hear him saying, I didn't hear the entire exchange when he talked about with Taiwan Walker. What he didn't say was, I thought he was pitching pretty well and I wanted to send him back out there. 'Cause if you're just going to put him out there because you don't want to waste another arm, you're behind a run, that very easily. If you can get out of four now, and it's still four to three, because the offense had showed life and they scored three more runs later on in the game, like if you can keep that at four, three, five, three, that's big. See, I care more about winning that game last night. I'm not telling you that you have to throw in high leverage guys like you was saying, but Tyler Phillips is available to go in the game. Allard's available to go in the game. You were saying Ruiz could have pitched that fourth inning rather than bringing a heated pitch well when he came in. - No, but if you bring him in the fourth inning and he goes one, two, three, or he gets out of that inning, now you're on the fifth and you're only down a run. So just watching the game, when he came back out for the fourth, I felt like that it was over. - Yeah, I think the, like Ruiz pitching poorly with standing, I would have gone to Ruiz to start the inning. So Walker gives you three. It wasn't a particularly strong three, but he had kind of stemmed the tide a little bit, had a one, two, three inning, is sandwiched in there. - Yes, in the three. - You know, you kind of were able to, okay, you got out of some kind of danger with the one run game. It's four, three. You kind of, you take your lumps and you go to the bullpen and I understand not using high leverage guys. If you want to go to Ruiz, like you did, that's totally fine. I would have started the inning with Ruiz in the fourth and seen what you've gotten from there. I understand you're trying to get some length out of Taiwan Walker, but I'm not quite sure extending him into the fourth made a ton of sense in this regard. - And he's done this exact same thing before where he sent him back out and it's worked for him, where he's calmed down or he's lulled guys asleep, 'cause he just, I got it, he stinks. So here's the other thing, he's not getting designated for assignment. - Correct. - A lot of people after the game, including Ryan Lawrence, who used to cover the team for that, I think the Daily News, and I like Ryan, but it's a, it's a motion to say, just get rid of him now, designate him for assignment. You're not gonna do that, it doesn't make any sense. Not that he's any good, but you go into the off season and maybe you can get a team that's desperate for a starter that if you pay 75% of his remaining $36 million on his contract, maybe they take it. Maybe he actually is able to get some of his stuff back. I'm not, that wouldn't bet on that, but crazier things have happened. It just makes more sense. You're not gonna get rid of him right now. You go back into spring training, and if he looks terrible in spring training and you're like, this ain't gonna work, then designate him for assignment. You can still try in the off season to try to figure something else out. - By the way, one more omission in the update. Cleveland has clinched a playoff spot, not the AL Central, they're six and a half up on Kansas City right now with nine to play, but they did clench a playoff spot last night. - You're right though, I think that the conversation about him then moving on from him probably doesn't happen until the off season. And more than likely, probably doesn't happen until a couple of weeks into spring training. You still have what, $36 million left on the books. It's a sunk cost no matter what. You're paying the guy. - You're paying him, so if you release him, you're still paying the same. - Right, you're paying the guy no matter what. The only issue is I think there has to be a separation between, yeah, you're gonna pay the guy no matter what, it's baseball, it's all guaranteed money. And also I don't believe he can make another impact, he cannot, I don't think he can throw another impactful pitch. He might pitch in mop up duty, he might pitch a game. Let's say they clench down the stretch and they split, let's say two or three, right? - We'll start again. - He'll start a game against the Cubs or against Washington and whenever they've decided their fate, he'll probably pitch another game. But I can't in good faith have this guy pitch any more meaningful innings for this team this year. They're still in the thick of a division. They're going to win the division. I firmly still, there's no question in my mind. - I'm not even talking about anything. - But they're still in the thick of trying to get the two-seat, trying to maybe get the one-seat. They're right there with the Dodgers. - They're tied with the Dodgers. They have the tiebreaker with the Dodgers, so the Phillies right now still have the best record in the National League. - I'm not sure you can punt on any more innings pitched with him throwing meaningful innings. - No, you can't, and it would make me very happy if he never pitched another pitch for the Phillies in his career. I'd be perfectly fine with that. It just doesn't make any sense right now to give him. There's not enough time left in the season. I saw Zilecki had him on his playoff roster, I think. He wrote something two days ago that had him on the playoff roster. I mean, I hope he better not pitch an inning in the playoffs unless they're getting crushed. So anyway, well, there you go. That's the field. I can't take any more. I just want to ignore the Phillies until they clench. I don't want to go on day to day with the Phillies right now. I got enough things to be worried about. Like the Philadelphia Eagles. How about that? So check it out. I believe that Nick Sireani over the next two weeks is coaching for his job. Jeffrey Lori's not a knee-jerk reaction owner. Jeffrey Lori is in a fire the guy during the season owner. He's not David Tepper. He's not some of these other owners that get angry. And it's not really the NFL owner's way of doing things. But you know what I mean, right? Like I think ordinarily, Jeffrey Lori, he did bring him back this year. Like he would not fire a guy this early in the season. However, the Eagles in losing the game to Atlanta, one-in-one, two very difficult games on the road in New Orleans, on the road in Tampa. If the Eagles were to lose to the Saints on Sunday, they're underdogs. If they were to lose at the Saints on Sunday, it wouldn't be ridiculous. It wouldn't be observed. Now, the devil's in the details and I reserve the right to be angry after the loss, but you know what I mean? It's Saints have proven to be a good team this year. The Eagles are struggling on defense. If the Eagles lose at the Saints, that's not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about is the manner that they lose. If they come out and they have low energy, they're listless, J.A.L.N. Hertz has bad body language. The guys are kind of on defense being like, man, we're not good enough. If they don't respond in this game, put on the fire alarm like we had during the show the other day, man, that's trouble. And then you go into Tampa Bay where Tampa kicked your ass last year. I guess what I'm saying is if I see a team and we saw this against Atlanta in that second half and given up that last drive, if I see more of what I saw at the end of last season, I'm getting rid of Nick Siriani after the buccaneer game. If they get blown out by the Saints, now it's all my radar. Now I'm saying, you know what? He could be a loss away from getting fired. There's too much talent on this team. I don't know who you would bring in. Bill Belichick doesn't make sense to bring in being that your defense coordinator isn't a Belichick guy. So you'd more or less be saying to Fangio like you're gone too. I don't know if you're gonna, I don't think you would do that now, but there's too much talent on this team to where if it's clear to you, these guys don't believe in Siriani, don't want to deal with Siriani, he's grinded them down to where they're like, this guy, like I don't want to deal with this guy. You don't like showing up to work. That's the feeling I got last year at the end of the season. When the loss has started piling up and piling up and piling up and they couldn't figure it out. To me, it felt like everything was internal. I said it over and over again. This isn't about X as an O's. There's something internally that was going on. I wondered if it was Jalen Hertz in A.J. Brown. The way the guys talked after the season, in particular Fletcher Cox, according to Howard Eskin, and he said Fletcher Cox, Fletcher Cox was not happy with the way that Jalen was behaving on the sideline. We come to learn just a couple of weeks ago that Nick Siriani and Jalen Hertz's relationship was terrible and that's something that they're trying to get back. If this team comes out and gets blown up by the Saints, I am on high alert for Nick Siriani getting fired. They lose the game, they lose the game. It would suck, but like crazier things have happened. They can't get blown out on Sunday. They can't, they can't get blown out on Sunday or this is major, major trouble. Jalen Zulu, do you agree with the sentiment? Is Nick Siriani currently coaching for his job this year? It's closer than I thought it would be after two weeks. And I think you're probably, if you look at it in a vacuum, you go, it's only two weeks, so you're in the week three, but I think you're probably parlaying the last, you know, these three weeks span with the last 10 weeks of the season last year, understanding the relationship strain, understanding the CEO role that Nick Siriani has kind of taken. He's not calling offensive plays. He's not obviously not a defensive minded coach. I think it's closer than I, it should be for a coach who went to the Super Bowl two years ago and is in week three of the, you know what I mean? It's strange to be in that regard. I don't think he's directly coaching for his job in the next two weeks. I will say this, I do believe they're going to lose one of the next two games. I don't know if it's, they win New Orleans and they lose Tampa. They lose New Orleans and win Tampa. I think they're going to split in the next two weeks. It's a matter of the, like you said, it's the fashion in which they lose the game in which they do. - Right. - They lose this game, you know, 33, 30. Hurts looks good. Offences move in the football and the defense just again gets no pass rush. That's a, that's a defensive coordinator thing. That's a defensive schematics thing. That's a decent defensive personnel thing. They lose this game 30 to, you know, 17. You're going to start thinking about, you know, what, what could happen? How does this thing spiral, can this thing spiral out of control? Do I think he's directly coaching for his job right now? I don't. Do I think they're, do I think the seed has gotten warm? I do. - Could it get bad enough? I mean, the real question is could it get bad enough to where they can make a move on him during the season? And the answer to me is absolutely yes. - Yes, I think it can. I think it can get bad enough where they were to make a move. I don't think I'm, I'm not there yet. A step in the wrong direction could certainly, you know, cause like ill will towards Nick Siriani, but I don't think it's, I don't think it's there just yet. - All right, all right. It should be and I do believe it is. Now I also don't think with all this being said, I don't believe that the, that the Eagles are going to be in that situation. But I kept saying the same thing last year. I was just looking at their, at their 20, 23 results. Remember, they started 10 and one, they got blown out by the 49ers. They got absolutely crushed by the 49ers. And it, it, it crushed them for the season. They never really recovered from that. Let me bring it back up here, 20, 23 results. So they get crushed by the 49ers, but you know what, like that's one game, it doesn't matter. But then from there, crushed by the Cowboys, lost to the Seahawks in a game that they just, they had every opportunity to win that game. - That was the ugliest game of the year, I think. Drew Locke leading a game-winning drive down the field. They scored, what they scored, like 17 points and won the game. - 17 points. The Seahawks were begging to lose that game. And the Eagles couldn't, they couldn't figure out a way to win. So even after that, and I think actually that's when, is that when I stopped, I think that's when I was, I wasn't on the air after that game. Let me see. Well, I just remember, I remember being happy. Yeah, that was the last game I was on the air for reacting to. They beat the Giants on Christmas, which was a tougher game than I think a lot of people expected. I don't remember the details of that game, but- - I think Tyrod Taylor started that game. - Tyrod Taylor started that game. The cutlets come in and clean up for 'em. - Or maybe it was the other way around, maybe- - Cutlets, yeah, Tommy Cutlet started the game. - Tyrod Taylor started leading a drive- - Tommy DeVito looked like a non-NFL player, and then Tyrod Taylor came in and started moving 'em. Yeah, that's right, 'cause they scored 22 points in the second half. So, like, you kept saying to yourself, they're not gonna lose this game, they're not gonna lose this game, and they lost to the Cardinals. They lost to the Giants, and then they got smoked by the Buccaneers. So, I'm falling into the trap of saying, they're not gonna lose this game. Now, if they lose this game, fine, then it's a must win against Tampa next week. That's a top spot to be in. So, with all that being said, I'll release my pick for the Eagles this week. What did I give you for a final score? They win by one. I think I have them 24 to 23. - You sent me. - I don't think it's a shootout. I think I said 24, 23 is my official prediction. Let me see. - I think it was, did you say 21, 20? - 21, 20 was the other one. - 21, yeah, 21, 20 is what you sent me. - Definitely an under. I think that the Eagles defense really comes out and responds, Bryce Huff who is getting crushed and deservedly so for being a zero, actually shows up this week. And Fangio comes up. Everybody's maligned on the defensive line. The young guys, really nobody's being spared. And I think they have an inspired effort and they come out. And this is a defensive game that they win. And the Eagles do just enough offensively. So, I actually think they respond. I'll take the two and a half points, but I think the Eagles win 21 to 20. And they beat the Saints. This is a tough matchup. The way the Saints are playing right now. But I can't state this enough. When you have an emotional win on every NFL game really is national TV. If it's a 425 and you have the top guys doing it 'cause so many people are watching it. When you have that game and you beat the Cowboys in the manner on the road they did, with 35 points at halftime, it's hard the next week to not think that you're anything but that team. And not that you think that it's gonna be easy, but in your head it just was so easy for you that you think it's gonna be like that again. You're feeling pretty good about yourself. You're reading the Twitter conversations. You're looking at what they're saying about you on NFL Network and ESPN and First Take or whatever. And the Eagles really have to respond. This is a big time response game for the Eagles. So as much as I'm sitting here saying that Sir Yani could be whacked if they don't respond the next two weeks, they better respond on Sunday and I think they do. - 21 to 20 times. - I think if they do respond, especially in any kind of convincing manner. Even if they, again, if they split these two and they're two and two but you feel good about the response that they put together on Sunday, I think it's gonna go a long way for the confidence of this football team. Again, losing this game is not like detrimental to the course of the season. Losing this game in bad fashion could be. You could lose the locker room really, really quickly. Like I said, I think they're gonna lose one of these next two games. My gut would tell me if they're gonna lose one of these two games, they're gonna lose the game on the road. New Orleans is a tough place to play. I would say if I'm picking one of the two games that they lose, I would say that they lose this weekend. With that being said, I think I have been back and forth on this and you can see me kind of pondering. I genuinely have flip flopped about a hundred times. I think I'm taking the Saints in this one. And I hate to say that because I don't like the Saints as much as what they, their offensive productivity has been in the first two weeks. They've been darn good. I think they scored, what'd you say? 15 consecutive drives at one point. They came away with points. It's really been impressive. Alvin Kamara scares me a lot. Especially with the fact that this team isn't getting pass rush. He is so good in the pass game. - And he's been running the football while the team can't stop the ball. - Right, slipping out of the backfield. He's one of the most dangerous Texas route runners that I've seen in a really long time. I just think he is a matchup nightmare for them. I think they're going to score points. I don't love the Saints defense. I think it's decent. I think they're going to score points. I just think the Saints are going to also score a lot of points. I know you said you're not taking it under. I don't know what the line is, but I think it's going to be a pretty high scoring game. I'm going to take the Saints in this one. I'm going to say they win this game 28, 20, I'm going to go 28, 27 I think. I'm going to take the Saints in this one to win this game. I don't think they cover. I think the Eagles cover the spread, but I'm going to take the Saints to win the game. - All right. There you go. - So you have a Saints cover or no? - No, I'm taking the Eagles plus two and a half. - Okay, Eagles plus two. - But I think they're going to lose the game. - All right. All right, there you go. All right, well, we'll finish up talking more Eagles and also kind of look, give the rest of our game as well. - Is the game against the Bucks on the road? - I thought it was at home. Oh, that's my fault. My apologies. I thought that game was at home. That's my bad. - They have not played well in Tampa over the years. - They have not. See, that changes things from me a little bit, not to say that I think they can still, listen, if they win this game, I'm not going to be stunned. If they lose this game, I'm not going to be stunned. - I agree with you. - That's my apologies. I thought that game was at home. - That's all right. - I still think they beat Tampa. I think they lose to New Orleans. - All right. There you go. We'll give our picks coming up here in a second, listen, let's talk about getting some hair for a second. You don't have to be bald. Yeah, I mean, well, I'm not gonna tell you, I haven't done that. I am not Tyler Zoli@gmail.com. That is not you. That's not me? Okay, I'm good. Well, there is a- It's an imposter. So I will say this. I think this person, I don't know who they are. I've never figured out who it is. There was a person who, I guess you still listen to me on the fanatic and has been in our chats before. And their name is something like not Tyler Zoli or something. Oh, really? You're a superfan. People assumed it was me like playing, like I'm like, why would I, if I had a burner account, why would I put my name in my burner account? Or it's like doing a reverse strategy. No one would ever think that. Maybe, I don't know. Yeah, I guess. Because I actually at one time created a John Marx burner account, but it was a bit. It was a Twitter handle. It's a John Marx burner. And then, so it was like, yes, it's my burner account, but I'm telling you, it's my burner account. And I wasn't putting anything inappropriate out there or whatever, it was right around the time, Colangelo had all the burner accounts. I just said, I'm gonna put my own name on a burner account. I think you should do a burner account and tweet poorly about yourself. Go back and watch the show and like, whatever we messed up. So like, oh, John Marx burner account today. Ha ha ha ha. Tyler's only said the Eagles were at home against the box. What an idiot. Yep. Yep. See, the Tyler, Tyler's really burner account should put out like really, really bad stuff that could get you fired. I would really appreciate if they didn't do that. Don't do that, but that's what they could do. I need this job. That's what they could do is they could just put out inflammatory comments all the time. All right, let's give you our locks for Sunday. And these are all these lines are all via the bet parks app. The only place I would ever use. Check it out right now. Dallas Cowboys minus, minus six. Let me, and let me actually, as I'm talking here, let me pull up the, so I can make sure that these are exactly where they are. 'Cause a lot of times like, we'll put this out on social media and you get people that'll be like, lines down to five and a half. You don't know what you're talking about. All right, well, we're giving these, we're giving these games out on Friday. So yes. Oh my gosh, they're here. They are the, on, on Q. There it is. There is no Tyler. There is only Zulie. That's who it is. I don't know who you are friend. I appreciate you. Just as John said, don't tweet inflammatory stuff about me. There you go. Yeah, don't, don't do that. Tyler Zulie, there is no Tyler Zulie. There's only Zulie. What? Listen, we need, we need, we need fans for everybody on the show, including Herb Herb from Northeast Sully is gonna be here next Thursday, hopefully. All right. So, so the Dallas Cowboys. That was a, that was a, no, that's, that's not even this, this week's pick. I didn't pick Dallas. I was gonna say, I didn't pick Dallas. I stayed away from that game. 'Cause they're playing the freaking Ravens. The Ravens are one point favorites in Dallas. I wanted nothing to do with betting that game. All right, the Detroit Lions, minus three on the road at Arizona. I wasn't surprised that the Lions lost last week to the Bucks. I'd be surprised if the Lions lost this week to the Cardinals. Lions are a good football team. And this is one of these response games after a loss at home. Arizona was impressive last week. No question about it. Surprised me, but ultimately ran out of gas. That offense is pretty good, but the Lions have to win this game. They're not falling to one and two. It's mildly an Arizona line. A strong Lions line would be probably minus five, but I'm gonna take them anyway. I'll take Detroit minus three on the road over the Arizona Cardinals. All right, the Browns and the Giants. And sometimes you get clouded with your hate for other teams. And I hate the Giants, but they also suck. And this defense is really, really bad. And at some point Cleveland's gonna break out of whatever's going on with their offense. This may be the week to do it at home against the bad defense, against the bad offense. I like the Browns defense a lot against Daniel Jones in this offensive line. I'll take the Browns minus six and a half over the New York Giants. All right, the Texans on the road, Minnesota. When we talk about Lions and all right, like what do you like in this game? Minnesota has surprised me this year. Sam Darnold has been good, but that also is, is not gonna last. And this is the first week that Darnold comes crashing down. And the Houston Texans are legit. C.J. Shroud is legit. That talent all offense is legit. And their head coach, Demico Ryan's, in my opinion, is one of the better head coaches in the National Football League. So on the road, I'll take them. Take Houston Texans minus two over the Minnesota Vikings. And I like the Eagles 21 to 20. So take the Eagles plus two and a half points. Tyler Ziroli, what do you got? - Yeah, so this is gonna be the first week that you and I go head to head in a game. And one of two things I think are gonna happen as you laid out. The Lions are gonna come, you know, roaring back after a bet. I wanna say a bad loss. Tampa Bay is a good team. But there were seven and a half point favorites. They didn't, not only did they fail to cover, they failed to win the game. The Bucks win that game. Pretty convincingly, it was a pretty good game by them. But inversely, Arizona put up 41 last night, or last week, on a team that we probably are coming to understand that they're banged up, they're injured, and the Rams maybe just not that good. The Cardinals offense looks like it's going to be a threat for a bulk of the season. I'm just not sure how good their defense actually is. They're getting three points at home, like you made mentioned. They are going up against the Lions. I'm gonna take Arizona with the points at home to cover the spread. Not sure they win. I think this is a close game. Give me the Bucks for the second straight week. I think the Denver Broncos are a mess right now. Bowniks is not a good quarterback. I don't believe he's ever gonna be a good quarterback. In fact, I think I tweeted during the draft, Bowniks is going to get a general manager fired. I just don't think he's any good. Six and a half seems like a pretty convincing Buccaneers line. I just don't think Denver can keep up offensively with the Bucks. I'm gonna take Tampa Bay minus six and a half. I think the same could be said. The same logic could be said for Buffalo on this week against Jacksonville. Jacksonville has struggled offensively. Trevor Lawrence just does not look nearly as sharp as he should. Josh Allen despite losing stuff on digs has been really good. James Cook has been good as well. The bills are minus five at home. I'm not sure Jacksonville is going to be able to keep up with Buffalo. I'm going to take the bills in this one minus five. I looked at that one as well. I like your, I like not the pick we went head to head. The other pick that you had. Oh, you don't like the one that you don't like the one where I disagree with you. I don't blame you. I agree. I agree with the Denver game and you said that he's going to get a GM fired. That GM Sean Payton also the head coach because he ultimately was the one that said I'm going to draft bone X. Yeah. I don't. I had a lot of good games, a lot of good games this weekend when you look at the schedule that that that Baltimore, the Ravens have a chance to fall to 0 and three, which is crazy. They're on the road. They were one of the favorites for the Super Bowl. Everybody no one because no one wants to say the Chiefs three years in a row. So what's the team that people are picking? The Ravens. Sure. They could go to 0 and three. They're one point favorites in Dallas. And listen, there has been a track record of teams struggling to find consistency after losing in a championship game early. And then they figure it right. Like we've seen it happen plenty. They follow and she was standing, but if they follow in three, we're going to see a lot of percentages of this is how many teams started season 0 and three and made the playoffs, made the Super Bowl, made the championship game. So it's almost a must win for them. I'd love to see the Cowboys go to one and two. That would be so awesome. Also the Steelers game, by the way, one team since 2000 has started the year, 0 and three that we already have the playoffs out there right now. Yeah, the Chargers and Steelers, I liked, I don't like Jim Harbaugh. I liked him Harbaugh, the coach and what he brings. And I like what he's done with that team already. And the Steelers are really intriguing with Justin Fields back there to me. Makes it a hell of a lot more interesting just because you do have the potential and the raw and the raw skill that they haven't really had there in the past. So a lot of good games this weekend. We're looking forward to it. So all you diehards out there. Thank you very much for being big diehard, PHLY people. So shout out everybody, have a good weekend, good, you know, good, good red zone viewing day. You have the one o'clock Eagles game and then the four o'clock games, Dauphin Seahawks and Carolina Panthers Raiders, uh, yeah, you'll be focused on the Ravens and the Cowboys at 425 and then the Lions and the Cardinals and the Niners and the Rams. Wow. Chiefs and Falcons Sunday night football and then you have the double Monday night game, Jags, bills, commanders and bagels is the second one, which will be interesting. Like you had said that even at Washington, they won last week with seven field goals, but yeah, but you've had bad football game, bad football game, but you feel like that like they made the right draft pick. They have the, they have their quarterback going forward. It's a matter of him figuring out the league. Bonix doesn't look like he's going to be a good NFL quarterback. Well, I think there was such a reach for quarterbacks after. So I think the right, the first three go quarterback to Williams, Daniels, May or the first three and then tenant panics and Nick's get drafted higher than a Michael panics really kind of changed the complexity of needing a quarterback. I didn't think it made a ton of sense for the Falcons to take him in that spot, especially having signed Kirk cousins and then JJ McCarthy goes to Minnesota and then bonix goes to Denver. You had six quarterbacks go and what the top 15, I think it was something along those lines. And I'm not sure most of them, well, at least the back, the back three are set up for any kind of immediate success. Yeah, agreed. Maybe, maybe panics. All right. He, people have talked me into him being a good NFL quarterback. We'll see. All right. Words, get a win on Sunday and we'll be happy in here on, on Monday morning, lose the game. Look out. It is going to get ugly in this city. Like and subscribe. Everybody out there watching on YouTube, we appreciate you getting involved in the chat. We appreciate you watching.
