- Now. - I don't know who is behind the birds for this, but I don't know when we need him. We need him now. (screaming) - For some reason, cool bars in Hollywood have to be hard to find, have a bad good sign. - This is the cocktail nation. - It is a windy night here in Sydney, and I'm seeing a lot of wind activity out through the main window here in the cocktail nation studio. But it's okay, the building won't blow down. I feel nice and safe. Look, there goes a cow. Some espionage coming away this week, Jason Whitan from Spy Vibe, stopping by, and we take a look at some gigs to attend across the globe, plus I'll tell you an interesting story of a thing that I heard at a coffee shop just this week, as we kick off with Honolulu Transport and Marvelous on the cocktail nation. Reminds me of a thing that happened the other day. I was waiting at a coffee shop. I didn't even buy coffee. I like a nice skim latte. And a police car comes screaming past for the lights and signs. And I hear someone say, looks like something is going on. I think to myself, really? You think so sure like homes? I'm sure they're not doing it for kicks and gals. But thank you, Captain Obvious. (vocalizing) Where am I? You're with Spy Vibe and cocktail nation. (vocalizing) In a recent segment, I talked about the man with a golden gun, the 1974 James Bond adventure, the Captain of the Kung Fu craze. One of the stars fueling this cultural trend was actor Bruce Lee, who had appeared as Cato in the 1960s green house. Sadly, Lee died some late in the summer of 1973, but not before he was able to make his last completed movie, Enter the Dragon. It was the first co-production of a major Kung Fu film between Hong Kong and the United States. And the blend between a traditional revenge tale, a British intelligence mission to infiltrate an evil lair, and a pinch of black's exploitation guaranteed the film's place as one of the great iconic movies of the 70s. Bruce Lee dedicated his life to training, and he apparently liked to work out to music for mission impossible. So it was an extra bonus that Lalo Shiffrin composed the soundtrack to enter the dragon. Shiffrin's approach was to keep an intriguing groove going throughout, dominated by electric bass and guitar. But he also crafted Chinese style cues, performed on a mixture of strings, mandolin, and a cymbalone, which John Berry would use months later in Man with a Golden Gun. One of my favorite tracks is a kind of encapsulation of the story. As Shiffrin invites us into the adventure, introduces intrigue, mystery, and suspense, and then drops us through a climax and into resolution. Check it out. Here's Sulyn the month.
