The Dodgers beat the Rockies in an effective bullpen game. We got an update on Clayton Kershaw. Tyler Glass now spoke to the media for the first time since being shut down for the rest of the season. We're talking about this post-season bullpen. Who is on the bubble? Who might not make it? That's coming up next on The Dodgers Nation post-game show. (upbeat music) (crowd cheering) - Well, what is up Dodgers Nation? Welcome to the Dodgers Nation post-game show. My name is Doug McCain. You can follow me on exit Instagram @DMAC_LA. Thanks for joining us after the Dodgers get the win. They beat the Rockies at home. The final homestand of the season by a final score of six to four. The Dodgers are now tied with the Phillies for the best record in baseball and the magic number after the Padres found a way to beat the White Sox. The Padres win by a final score of three to two. So that magic number is down to five on the season. But your Los Angeles Dodgers continue to stack wins. They still have a lot of work to do to wrap up this division to finish with the best record in baseball, potentially. And right now 92 in 62, 92 in 62, and they're tied with the Phillies for best record in baseball. Two games up on the New York Yankees and the division. Four games up on the Padres. The Padres did take seven of 10 from the Dodgers this series. They have one more series to play starting next week. But you have to look at that really as a three game lead. But welcome to another episode where we're talking to Shohei Otani. Because after having one of, if not, the best game that we've ever seen from any player in the history of the universe, Shohei Otani, he does it again. Another great performance by Shohei. He goes three for four, had two RBIs, he stole a base. He hit a home run. He was using his speed, using his power. An incredible game for Shohei Otani. And it was a very meaningful home run for Shohei who put the Dodgers on top with his go ahead bomb tonight. And then also, Tauska Hernandez and Andy Paz also hit solo home runs. The Dodgers used eight relievers tonight. Not all of them pitching as good as the next. Joe Kelly had a rocky inning. 29 pitches coming in for Ryan Brazier. Pitches, 12 pitches could have probably stayed out there, but Joe Kelly threw 29 pitches there in the second inning. But he's managed to kind of limit the damage. So we'll talk about the bullpen. We'll talk about Tyler Glassen. We'll talk about an update on Clayton Kershaw. Things are definitely trending in the right direction for Clayton Kershaw. But first and foremost, one, let me know where you're representing Dodgers Nation from. And also, give me your biggest takeaway from tonight's win. Because I think one of them could be did Andy Paz has strengthened his case to make the postseason roster. I think that he absolutely did. So we're going to talk about Andy Paz as well. With some shots of the Padres, the J-cam DMACC is Shohei's 50 home run ball gonna be worth $1 million. Look, there was a report that came out today that the ball is apparently worth $500,000. And that's just right now. You've got multiple offers apparently. And then also there was a story that came out that said that the Dodgers had offered $300,000 for the ball. So it's definitely going to fetch a lot. It's definitely gonna fetch a lot. The question is, does you wanna pay it? Apparently it's a 50 year old man that ended up with the baseball and he was in talks. He was negotiating with the Dodgers, but he decided to leave the stadium and it's fully authenticated. So yeah, I mean, he's gonna get paid for that. But at least 300,000, that's what we know. But he's certainly gonna possibly get more than that. And yeah, it's definitely a nice piece of history. I think too, what takes it to a whole nother level, it's not just the first 50-50. By the way, people keep saying the 50-50 club, he ended the 50-50 club. No, he created, he's the founder of the 50-50 club, right? And what makes it more special is not only did he start that club yesterday in Miami by hitting three home runs and hitting his 50th home run of the season. Well, it was also one of, if not the best game that we've ever seen from any player in the history for the major league baseball. So I think that adds to its value as well. We got longest add of all time, David Mm-hay, man. Marcos, Gallegos, how about everyone contributing to another strong win? We could have had a letdown game representing the 505 Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dodgers and the Albuquerque Dukes. I like to shout out to the Albuquerque Dukes. Shot in time, it was sort of a shout out to the gang. Jay Kelly is a horrible reliever. Got some thoughts on Joe Kelly in a second. He definitely did not have his best appearance. He did manage to limit the damage. So you kind of got to give him some credit for that. We'll talk some Joe Kelly. And he's someone who could be on the bubble. I mean, I think we look at his history, his pedigree, the upside and the way he's capable of pitching. I think he does have a decent shot of ultimately making this postseason roster. But it doesn't matter if you throw 98 and your stuff's nasty. If you don't have to command that fastball, it definitely limits your chances and puts this puts this team really in a tough spot. But thankfully tonight he was able to get out of it. And really kind of show what he has. I mean, that's what you want in the postseason. So you know, kind of start right there. Top of the first inning, by the way, Blackman, he flies to right. It looks like it's possibly to go off the wall. Could be a home run. And Mookie Betz goes crashing into the wall. You had book and great defensive plays tonight by Marcus Lynn Betz. One in the first inning, one later to end the game after Michael Copac came in to close it out later. But a really great job there for sure. We got Daniel Clark. D-Mac is the Shohei Otani of social media personality. Daniel Clark appreciates you that a little bit. Hey, D-Mac Mookie and Freddie are slumping at the end of the season again. We'll talk about that. Juice Narrow says Honeywell over Joe Kelly for playoffs. It's a hot take. You fear of the turtleneck. D-Mac, what's the matter with us? Only six runs tonight, bruh. I know, right? I mean, geez, I want another football score. I wanted, I mean, the 20 yesterday, I wanted at least double digits against this Rockies team. But hey, you're flying East Coast to the West Coast. You had some champagne. You come home, you got to run some errands. You go to the ballpark. It's a Rockies team that's got Freeland on the mound there. It's their World Series. So yeah, I mean, you got to just feel good about the fact they did win this game. If Otani was a OK, too true blue, that's a bro right there. Braveheart says Sucks to see Tyler Glass now being out of the postseason. We could have had Oppenheimer and the Japanese. We got, hey, D-Mac Mookie, Freddie are slumping again. Yeah, we'll talk about that. Kenny Chung, Hudson or Kelly needs to go on the IL. Bring up Edgardo Henrique's already. Yeah, we'll talk about that as a possibility. It just doesn't feel like it's so late in the season that's a little unrealistic. There's no doubt about that. We got to Octani incoming from Javier Mora. So you went to cover the show. Oh, Tani is one home run behind Judge for the MLB lead. Yeah, I mean, Aaron Judge has gone on a really long slump. I mean, there was a point in time where he'd gone 70 plate appearances without hitting a home run. It was the longest of his career. So a big drought for Judge, that allowed Shouhei Otani to catch up and Shouhei is just one home run shy of him at 52. So you got to give him a ton of credit for that. Can this man go 60-60 from 199 from Lakers running it down mid? I mean, anything's possible with Shouhei Otani. Obviously, you look at how many games are left, the plate appearances, Ned Kledi, former Dodgers. General Manager was on ESPN radio. And he threw it out there as a possibility. It's pretty unlikely. I mean, especially if you kind of look at where he's at right now in the pace that he's on. I mean, sure, if they don't get to do it, it's him. He just goes on a tear and you see more multiple home run games, I mean, for sure. But right now, if you look at his pace, Shouhei's on pace to 55 home runs and steal 55 bases. And you look at the remaining schedule for the Dodgers after tonight. You have two more games. This episode is brought to you by Progressive Insurance, fiscally responsible, financial geniuses, monetary magicians. Granger, for the ones who get it done. Colorado. And then you have three more against the Padres at home. And then you finish the season at Colorado. So yeah, I mean, if there's one place where if you're close enough and you're playing at Mile High, which, to me, Mile High, always say it's like bowling with the bumpers on, right? It's definitely a place where you can have some inflated statistics. And I think it depends, too. Do you want to give them some rest if they're not playing for any seating at that point? But yeah, he's on pace for $55.55. So he definitely would have to crank it up. C. Stella Ria says, who's pitching tomorrow? Tomorrow, you have someone who's really turned their season around as far as kind of the role he could have for this team of the postseason. Just how he's looked of late. But tomorrow, you're going to see Walker Bueller on the bump going up against Cal Quantrill. So yeah, you got Quantrill over his Bueller on Saturday. Then you got Antonio Centazela against Yoshinobi Amamoto on Sunday, a 1-10 start tomorrow, a 6-10 start. But let's continue to break this one down. Because we've got lots to get into on this one. Because we're talking this game. We're also talking about stuff we heard earlier. And I think tonight we've got some meat on the bone. As far as it relates to the postseason roster. And I think when you look at tonight, and what can you take away from a game like this? And what can these guys still prove at this point? Well, guess what? You still have to win the division. And you're in a position to finish with the best record in baseball. And really, for the first part of the game, I mean, Freeland was dealing. He had four shutout innings, really doing nothing. I mean, Pajas was able to get a single in the second. And he didn't really have very much offense going in. That's after Joe Kelly really kind of roughed it up. It was not sharp at all. He just did not have his command tonight. And that's how Joe Kelly is. Sometimes he looks like he's an elite reliever. Sometimes it looks like he wouldn't trust him to valet park your car outside of Dodger Stadium. Now, I think the Dodgers are banking on the possibility of him looking like that postseason reliever we've seen in the past in 2018, when he was dominant just because the way his stuff plays. But he just didn't have from a command standpoint in the second inning. He comes in after Ryan Brager pitched a 12 pitch first frame. And he walks Rogers. And then Talia, he doubled to center. It went right off the top of the wall. It looked like it was going to be a home run. It bounces back in to play. And that set up the Rockies as runners on first and on second and third with no outs. And the next batter, he walked Hilliard on four pitches. So bases loaded, no outs. Next batter, Goodman, O2 count. He grounds to third, and Rogers ends up scoring on the play. That put the Rockies at 1-0 early. But then this is where you see bad Joe Kelly, good Joe Kelly. It's the good, the bad, and the ugly. The ugly was the lead off walk. The ugly was the four-pitch walk. The bad, you give up a double, and then also you bounce back and you strike out cave swinging. That's the good. Nasty knuckle curve down the zone was pumping 97-98 on the go with the four seam. And then the also bad, he hit Beck with a pitch to load the bases once again. But hey, a tight rope act. The next batter, two outs, bases loaded. Blackman at the plate, he strikes him out swinging. So he escapes that jam. Does throw 29 pitches, but a Houdini act for Joe Kelly. Now, the question is, does he make this postseason bullpen? Because, I mean, I think that he ultimately will, just because of the way his stuff plays. And it definitely has the ability to miss bats. And he still has the horizontal movement that really is elite on his slider. And the fastball velocity is up there in elite territory. I think if you look at the bullpen right now, I think the starting pitchers that ultimately make it are going to be, of course, Jack Flaherty, Yamamoto, Walker Bueller, Clayton Kershaw, if everything goes well, we'll see. That's a big if, but he did throw a 30 pitch bullpen today that went well. But I think Landon Nack's going to make it. And outside of the starters, Michael Copec, Evan Phillips, Blake Trine, and Bruce Dargradar all very sharp tonight for Bruce Dargar. We'll talk about him in a second. Then Ryan Brazier, Alex Vesia, Daniel Hudson. So at that point, you're at 12 pitchers. And the bubble guys, I do think Joe Kelly, Anthony Bonda, who could be back to get some regular season action, he has missed some time with the hairline fracture. He broke his hand after he struck a hard object and the hard object won. And then Brent Honeywell is another option as well. I think that if you had to kind of pick between Kelly and Honeywell, I know there's people out there trying to push for Honeywell, but I like to kind of tell you what I think this organization is going to do. And that's what they should do sometimes. And should they have Joe Kelly? Maybe not. I do think ultimately he does make this postseason bullpen unless you see a couple more appearances from him and he just doesn't have that command. And Anthony Bonda comes back in pitch as well, because Anthony Bonda is someone who's been one of the best and most dependable relievers for this team all season long. So I would definitely welcome Anthony Bonda making it over Joe Kelly, potentially. But if you do get a good version of Joe Kelly, he's someone that can be a weapon. I know that the command's been off this season, but a lot of the kind of underlying stats kind of will point to a better version of him. So yeah, I just think that ultimately, with his experience, he might get the nod. DMACC, do some toe touches for 52-52 from Pocket through Boyf 199. With my back is right now, that would not be a good idea. Phillip Subia, 55-55. I love all the Otani. Glazing, yo DMACC. Otani seems like he's hungry and is not messing around. Neil, before, I think that's a great point, because watching the ovation that he got, I think, was something that really kind of speaks to who he is. And it almost felt like he's just so humble. I don't want to say he was embarrassed by it, but I do kind of get the feeling of he's like, okay, I'm a baseball machine. Let me go back to being a baseball machine. And he definitely soaked it in. I mean, I thought it was cool. All of his teammates came out of the dugout. You saw Clayton Kershaw. You saw all of his teammates applauding him. The fans were there early to really give him the ovation that he deserved. And that's just kind of who he is. I mean, I think that for Shohei, it was a great moment, but it's almost very Kobe job not finished. And never forget that Shohei definitely saw that video from Kobe when he was being recruited to sign with this team. And I definitely kind of got that feeling. Yeah, it's an awesome individual accomplishment, but he ultimately wants to win. He came to this organization because he wants to win multiple World Series titles. He knows that that ultimately is going to be what takes his legacy to the next level is if he can win and perform in October. But we've seen a lot of cool stuff from Shohei, Otani. In the last couple of days, I thought it was really cool to see him address his teammates. And he had the champagne in his hand after hitting that 50 first home run and making history. And what does he say? He said, hey, we made it the postseason. We clinched a postseason berth. Let's keep things going. And Shohei had the longest streak as far as active players, as far as games played without a postseason appearance. So he wants to play in the postseason. I got that vibe from him tonight. I also thought it was really cool if you saw that story that Rob Lowe told. He was on a talk show. And Rob Lowe told this story about him going to meet Shohei, Otani, in the clubhouse and telling him that he was such a big fan of his. And he asked if he could get a picture. And at this time, Shohei was not wearing his uniform. He was just kind of in his pregame workout gear. And Shohei says, yeah, just give me a second. He gets on his full uniform, stirrups, socks, pants, jersey, hat, just to take the picture. And then after, Rob Lowe was hanging out in one of the first couple of rows at Dodger Stadium. And he gets a text. He was hanging out with a Dodger's executive. And that executive gets a text from Otani to ask Rob Lowe if it's OK that he posts that picture. So my point is, I think, Shohei's embracing this Hollywood lifestyle, this Hollywood limelight that we know certain players that don't get named here because they hate baseball. Look at you, Anthony, you're a don't like and don't thrive in. So I think that's one thing we've learned from this is that he can thrive in a major market. The angels aren't a major market. They're not Los Angeles. They're a small market team, OK? Don't the Los Angeles label on the angels? No, no, that's the smallest market there is, OK? It's the most irrelevant team in baseball right now. So he's proven that under the bright lights of LA, with the historic franchise like the Dodgers, not only can he perform, he can do historic things. So I think that's something that's going to translate to him in the postseason. I truly do believe that. Anthony Kean, I'm lining candles burning sage for that 60/60. Oh, yeah, you guys are never happy. I love that, though. Give me 70/70. Who cares? I love that. Giveaway, definitely comment. Giveaway down below. We're in our next Giveaway action. Copec is human. He gave up a run. Yeah, I think with Michael Copec, yeah, we'll talk about it a little bit, but it happens. I mean, he's been really good. They're going to rely heavily on him. J-cam, DMACC, Shohei is definitely getting hot at the right time, but will one week of rest affect him and the rest of the team? So that's one question I'm going to ask Dave Robertson, people within this organization in the next couple of days. It's just kind of how is that one week layoff going to be different this year versus years in the past? Because it's affected Mookie, and it's affected Freddie Freeman. So it's definitely going to be a storyline to follow very closely. What are they going to do differently? I mean, you've heard all kinds of stuff. Should you scrimmage a AAA team? Have the Dodgers AAA all-stars or the Dodgers, Meyer League all-stars go against the Dodgers and have fans in the stands and charge $5 or something, give it a charity or something like that. Have it independently, go in there and play them. I mean, these are all things that I think are interesting, for sure. DMACC looks like he's ready for a torto. What do you think, chat? Michael Negretti? Yeah, hey, I definitely am pretty hungry. I can go for a torto. Maybe after this show is a great truck up my street. I'm here in Hollywood that I always go to. So I might have to have an eight yet. So I think I might have to hit that up after. So thank you. Jose, show me the home run. Next, we Shuhu Umi the World Series Trophy. I like that. Show Omi the-- OK, let me redo that for you. I see what you did right there. Show Omi the home run. Next, show Omi the World Series Trophy. Yeah, absolutely. Yours says Kelly has no control whatsoever. Wild pitches and hitting batters, not a good mix. Yeah, those are all recipes for disaster when it comes to-- when it comes to relief pitchers. Michael Hoffer, a 4.99 super chat. Shohei is going to be the second best player. Jim Rice, 1978, since 1959 to get 400 total bases who wasn't either a rocky or a player suspected of steroids. We'll come up with the show. Michael Hoffer, I appreciate that. Love that. We got any update on Gonslin pitching this season, just from Jeremy on YouTube. The update on Gonslin is that he's going to be giving it going his third rehab start. It's going to be tomorrow for OKC. And if that goes well, I expect him to possibly get a start next week. I truly do. I truly do. Let's go get Rosemary in the chat. Kelly-- This episode is brought to you by Progressive Insurance. Fiscally responsible, financial geniuses, monetary magicians. And now this year, they're 2930. I mean, they're 2930 in road attendance. Let me think about that. Think about that. It's insane. They are irrelevant. I mean, it's not a take. It's not like a shot or anything. It's a fact. D-Mac, you deserve Flowers Man. Love what you do. And the team you got around you thinks. Yagamil33 appreciate that. D-Mac Dodgers pitchers gave a few home runs tonight, but they were missing a lot of bats. Yeah, that's a great point. You bring up a fantastic point. And one, it's a bullpen game. And two, you're using eight different pitchers tonight. Sure, it's the Colorado Rockies, a 59 win team on the season. But still, I mean, 15 total strikeouts. You had 15 total strikeouts tonight by the Dodgers pitchers. And that's definitely very promising. Brazier had a strikeout. Kelly had two strikeouts. Brewsdar Graterol, who we might as well dive into Brewsdar's tonight, I mean, this is one of the big time positive developments for this team is Brewsdar Graterol coming back after what looked to be a season-ending Grade 3 hamstring strain. And all of a sudden, he looks like he's one of the best relievers on the team again. Last year at a 120 ERA, him, Ryan Brazier, and Evan Phillips were the three best relievers on this team. And he stepped into that role. He looks fantastic. And he looks like he's going to be a big weapon for this team. And he comes in to pitch the third inning. He gets Tovar to ground to second. First pitch, soft contact. Then gets McMahon swinging on a slider down the zone. The use that slider for him down the zone, getting swing and miss, that's huge for him. Then he gets Rodgers to ground out to short. So 1, 2, 3 in the third, comes back out to pitch. The fourth gets the UCLA Bruin. Tolia, he strikes him out on a slider down in the zone. Then he gets Hilliard to ground to first. Another use of that slider to induce soft contact. And then he gets Goodman swinging another on that slider. So that's the big development for me with Bruisdard Grattaro. Yes, you see him pump 97, 98, 99 with that two-seamer that can induce soft contact and miss bats. It has that downward little bite to it. But the slider, that's how you can work it down in the zone. And get that chase. Get that swing and miss that's going to take him to the next level. So he's really my dodger dog in the game, man. He's definitely dodger dog of the game for me. At least one of them, especially out of the bullpen, just because he's made it back, he's looked really good, and he's fresh. He's got a lot left in the tank. He's going to factor in heavily for this team. And then on top of the fifth inning, Daniel Hudson comes in, strikes out Cave, strikes out Beck. And that's another positive sign too. Because Huddy, his strikeout numbers had really just cratered in the last couple of weeks when he started his slump. So to get a couple of strikeouts, that's definitely a positive. The negative, of course, is the next batter 1-1 count to Blackman. He crushes a change up to center 420 feet to give the Rockies another run to go up 2-0. And the next batter, Tovar, he reached on an infield single. He had an error there by Kike Hernandez, some sloppy defense. So Tovar reaches, and yeah, Tovar was safe at second. So he's a runner at second that Hudson had to deal with. And then he buckles down. He gets McMahon to pop to short. So they get one run on two hits. And the big inning, really the defining inning that you need to know about is the bottom of the fifth inning. So bottom of the fifth inning, Dodgers down 2-1. Andy Pah has 1-1 count. He crushes a solo shot to left 407 feet. That gives the Dodgers their first run of the night. Freeland had the four scoreless innings to start the game. And it was Pah has 11th home run of the game of the season. And right there, then and there, it's like, OK, let's get some runs. Let's find a way to go on top. And this is the Rockies. Like they remember they were the Rockies at this point. Next batter, Rojas strikes out looking. Then after a one-out strikeout there by Rojas, Max Muncie, 3-2 count, he doubled to center. To give the Dodgers a runner on second. Couple batters later, Shohei Otani, he's up in the count 2-0. Then takes a couple of strikes, one looking, one swinging. Then you got a full count, six pitchy to the bat. And of course, Shohei Otani, he knew everyone bought those tickets early in the week because they were hoping to see 50-50. They were hoping to see history. And guess what? He gave him something to appreciate. Another show bomb for Otani. The payoff pitch. Yes, McNair, center field, center field, center field. Can't be stopped. Just absolutely unstoppable, absolutely unstoppable. And what blew my mind, what blew my mind about this home run, is one, it's as a guy who must be exhausted from yesterday. I mean, he put up enough numbers yesterday that most guys would take in a whole month. Some a whole two months. And as far as the power numbers, right, the home runs and the doubles and the RBIs, right? And he's probably exhausted. And he still was able to go yard and just look at that pitch. How do you pitch to this guy when he's going to swing at pitches that are up in the zone, that are out of the zone and still find a way to make something happen? I mean, just look at where this pitch was. Look at where this pitch was. I mean, it's up out of the zone right there. Up out of the zone. Let me check this out. Just up out of the zone. And he just crushes it. I mean, look at this. Up out of the zone. Boom! Three, two count. To dead center. Shade a little to left center there. He's unreal. He's unreal. He's not from this galaxy. It's just-- it's something we've never seen before. And you think that you're used to something. And then just another night, it's something else. But I've heard people say, oh, I'm sick of the home runs when they're down or they're up. And it's not-- no, no, no. This is a home run where the Dodgers were down two to one. And it was a two run shot to put them up three to two. And again, they ultimately won. And then the top of the sixth inning. Alex Vessia on the bump. He strikes out Rodgers looking, strikes out to Leah. Then another home run given up. So the home run ball definitely was a problem for the Dodgers. Relievers tonight. Hilliard, homers to right center. That tied things up at three. Just left the four seam fastball out over the plate. Hilliard took full advantage. And the Rockies get one run on one hit there in this sixth inning. Then the Dodgers, they get it right back there in the bottom of the six. This won't make a lot of headlines. But Towsker Hernandez goes up there. 1-0 count. He crushes his 30th home run of the season. 398 foot blast to left. And just like that, the Dodgers, they take the lead at four to three. So they retake the lead there on that Towsker Hernandez home run. And he had teams exchanging home runs. And great to see. Towsker Hernandez hit that 29th home run before. And then get that 30 home run tonight. That's already a high for the Dodgers, of course, his first year. But I mean, he's a couple home runs away from his career high. He had 32 home runs in 2021. So yeah, I mean, I'm hoping that that's him setting his Dodgers high. And if they consider potentially bringing him back on the right deal, we've got a $20 Super Chat from Martine and Rike Ruelas. Get ready to celebrate division title versus the Padres. Yeah, I'm going to be there. I wonder if we're going to celebrate in the clubhouse. And I don't know. We'll get some, some, I don't know, some, some modellos, some Budlights on me. I don't know. I'm looking forward to it though. We get D-Mac best of the business. Appreciate you. Kenny Chung, Bazooka. Look calm, cool and collected to comment up the show. The Angels have been big since Enrico Palazzo. Hi D-Mac. Hi, Diane Schroeder. How you doing these days? The fairy godmother of the Dodgers Nation post game show. Our live streams. We appreciate that. Larry Mullen throwing out a contract offered. You like his deal. Teo, four years, $80 million. Mario Land of Verde says only time Angels Stadium gets packed is when they play the Dodgers. Yeah. Absolutely. Outside of that, it's a spirit Halloween superstore, right? That's what it is. And without Shohio Tani, that's all it is. And I mean, their tickets are $5. It's bad. They have bad ownership. They have potential. Definitely have potential. We get to Diane Schroeder smash that like button for show. Yeah. Smash that like button for show. Hey, also for the show really supports the channel helps us do a lot of things. Elijah Cruz is DMACC. Do you think Otani will pitch in the postseason? I've talked about this a couple of times. Andrew Friedman is pretty adamant that they're still basically in January is what he's calling it as far as a buildup process thinking that if this was a normal off season, he'd be in January mode coming off his second major arm surgery. I don't think it's something that they necessarily want to do. They want to protect that $700 million investment. But if you do suffer more injuries, you're deeper in the postseason, Shohio Tani wants to do it. Look, until they say it's 100% no, there's still a chance. Is it likely? No, but it's not a 100% no. So we'll see. I think to be honest with you, if the Dodgers don't use Shohio Tani, it really is probably a good thing because it means their bullpen was fine. It means their starting pitching was fine. And you could focus on being the best DH on the planet this season. So I think when you look at that and you kind of consider all that, I think that's kind of where I'm at with that is if you have to go to Shohio Tani, that means certain things have not gone right. And sure, if it's the World Series and you get close enough and he can help you, I'm for it. I'm for it. Because think about this. The World Series this year, I mean, we'll be fine this time next year, as long as you win next year, as long as you win it this year, next year, yeah, we'd like to win multiple World Series titles for sure. But if he gets you over the hump in year one, you'll take whatever happens next year to get a full 162 game World Series plus parade. You get the whole whammy there. So I, like I said, they got some decisions to make. Brews are going to become a star in the postseason. Love that take. I mean, that's one of the biggest takeaways from this game. It's our grads are all showing out looking good. And then you jump to, so after the tasker home run, he had some, is it Will Smith got a one out single, Pa has grounded to an infield, fielder's choice, the third, Rojas lined out. They get one run on two hits in that inning. And then in the seventh inning, they tacked on some more runs, Edmund, he drew a one out walk. He steals second, then Otani, he reached on an infield single. So what I love about Shohei is yes, what he does is incredible, right? It's not just the power. It's the speed. It's how he can impact the game in so many different ways. And he's flying down the base paths and he was able to get on base and get that infield single. So you love the hustle right there. Whatever Manny Machado is and has, he's the opposite is the opposite. And that's what makes Shohei Otani so spectacular. I mean, if you look at, well, basically the steals this season, 52 steals this season in 56 attempts, right? That's the third highest stolen base percentage in a 50 steel season. That's only Max Carey in 1922 and Jacob Ellsberry in 2013 had a higher stolen base percentage. So he does it with efficiency. He also uses speed to get on base in it after he reached on that infield single. He steals second and then it led to a run because Mookie Betts hit a sack fly to center to score Edmund to give the Dodgers another run to put him ahead five to three and the next batter, Tauska Hernandez, O two count. He reaches on an infield single to score Shohei to put the Dodgers up six to three and clearly they needed these runs because they were dealing with some home run issues in this one. So yeah, that's just on display. Shohei Otani. I mean, the dude's not real. I mean, well, I've said everything that I can possibly say about this guy. I'm running out of things to say about this guy. It's how good he is. And then I thought, I thought really trying to look really good too. I mean, try and swing and miss man. That stuff, that that sinker, it just, it does move more than a military family. It truly does. It looks like it's witchcraft, man. It doesn't look real. Sometimes the late depth on it, he struck out tow bar swinging with a sinker that just had that run inside and he struck out McMahon looking with the sinker up in the zone. Then he got Rogers to ground to first. So what you love about Blake trying, it's not just the swing and miss. It's also inducing soft contact. So I thought he had a really strong appearance tonight. Then top of the ninth, Michael Copec has really been the golden boy for this Dodgers bullpen. One of the best impact trades of the deadline. And he'd been phenomenal since being traded to the Dodgers. And look, at some point he's going to give the home run and happen in this one top of the ninth one, two count to Talia. He homered to right, 374 feet to make it six to four and the Rockies pull within two after the solo shot. But look, he did a nice job bouncing back. I mean, he got a Hilliard swinging on three pitches. He saw a hundred up in the zone, got Goodman to foul to first and he got cave to fly to right to end the game on another really, really nice play by Mookie Betts. I mean, I almost feel bad because Mookie Betts, he's just, he's most players show Hey O'Tani as far as guy can, they can do a lot of different things as a superstar. And yeah, it wasn't the best night for, for Mookie Betts at the plate. He goes, Oh, for three, he did have an RBI thinks that sack fly, but he really impacted the game with his defense. And it's a really, it's really reassuring to see Mookie be able to impact the game defensively once again. He's certainly doing that in right field. And he did it tonight. And remember in 2020, the Dodgers, they do not come back down three, one against the Braves unless Mookie makes that shoe strings catch and catches, Oh, Zuna, leaving third early to get that out at home plate. And he also made some incredible catches in left field. Some catches at the wall, just Mookie's defense in the right field, the way he can throw and gun guys out, the way he can make plays, it impacts the game wasn't doing that. It's short stop, but could he do it at second base? Now I've been saying on the show for a couple of months now, when we, every time we bring up the postseason roster is tight, Andy Pajez really look good. Pajez goes two for four had an RBI, had the home run his 11th of the season. So far for the month, he hadn't been great. He wasn't tearing it up since the September call up this month heading into today as 739 OPS 286 batting average. That's not bad though. The OPS certainly is going to go up after tonight hitting that home run. I think that Andy Pajez deserves to make this postseason roster. And I've given out this scenario a couple of different times on this show when you guys have asked him about the postseason roster, Gavin Lux has been struggling against left these all season long. He is in a slump at the moment and he, if you're facing a lefty, whether it be a reliever later in the game in a key spot or a lefty starter, well, if you have that second base, you don't want him to be a dead bat. I think that, you know, I'm his biggest fan as far as supporting for this team, but as far as just having the options and Andy Pajas gives you an option of playing him in right field and playing mookie bets at second base. So you have that covered there against lefties. That's their best potential line up against a lefty. Then I think that, look, Chris Taylor hasn't been great, but it does feel like they're leaning towards Chris Taylor and you're seeing less Kevin Kiermaier. So I'm starting to wonder if Kevin Kiermaier's spot on this team is starting to be in question at this point. It's something that I'm kind of starting to to worry about. So we're the big takeaways on this one. One, Shohei Otani, the dude is Superman and baseball cleats, just unreal, goes three for four, two RBI stolen base, a home run. He's Mr. 52 52. Every time he does anything, he's the first guy to do that. I mean, the authenticators are authenticating everything. They're authenticating more bases. So that's a big takeaway. But also Tauska Hernandez, getting a home run, hitting his 30th home run for the Dodgers, getting another infield hit later in the game. He's going to be the X factor for this team in the postseason. And offensively, I truly believe that the Andy Pahas solo home run, really making his case to make this postseason roster and bruised our grader all to scoreless 123 innings. And I just really think that it's one of the, yes, this team, everyone will talk about the injuries and cry about the injuries. I understand and they'll blame the training staff and all the stuff. But let's talk about a big break that they did get. And so far, Yamamoto getting him back and pitching the way he has. It's a big break, bruised our grader all looks to be another big break as well. He went two innings, had three strikeouts, very efficient, 22 pitches, 16 for strikes, using that slider down the zone to get that swing in mid. So that was my other biggest takeaway as well. But now let's talk to you guys. Some more comments guys. DMACC, the Dodgers have scored 43 runs in the last four games. Wow, that's insane. It's insane when you put it like that, man. Some of those runs for the NLDS plays save some of those runs for the NLDS because that mean I would love to score 10 runs per game. That'd be fantastic history, man, L8 28 wildcard series is the first around division series, the second round. I haven't corrected people all the time on this one. We got four years for Teo was too long. The Padres team is spicier than Habanero sauce on a torta two AM to fire take. Yeah. So couple of those I want to also get into is Clayton Kershaw. Dave Vassay, he reported that to Clayton Kershaw pitched a 30 pitch bullpen session. And that's big because if he can contribute in any way, you could look at a potential piggyback type of start with Kersh with Gonslin, Nack could be in that mix as well. You could use an opener like we saw tonight and then have some form of a piggyback start to cover innings. So you'd need as many healthy arms as you can get. And I know there's naysayers. There's the haters out there that think he's not going to come through. But look, the truth is his arm looked good. His surgically repaired arm looked good. It looked like pre injury Kershaw last year, so as long as the toe is healthy, I certainly think he deserves a spot in this postseason roster in some capacity, right? He's not going to be built up for a long, long innings or anything like that to give you a normal starter's loan. You're not seeing six and 90 from Kersh, but still, I mean, he has the experience. And I think in the right situation, he can help this team and I definitely want to see him in more of a piggyback style role with possibly an opener. We doesn't have to face the top of the lineup to start the game because that's the last you want is in giving up a home run to like Manny Machado like we saw in 2022 in the NLDs. So that's a big story. That's definitely a major positive for the Dodgers that you got to love. And then Tyler Glass now, so Tyler Glass now, he spoke for the first time today, since being shut down for the rest of the season in glass now, he told reporters, it's extremely frustrated. I wanted to come here to win a World Series and pitch in the postseason. He said that he could just tell when he was about to have that sim game in Atlanta that quote, something was just not right in my arm. He said, I just knew it would have been dumb to keep throwing on it. I'm just trying to figure out something to get my arm to a good spot to try and relieve some of the tension in my elbow. I guess I'm just trying to figure it all out and implement it through the off season and next season. So he said he's probably not going to need surgery, but we'll see how that goes. He's going to start throwing in a month. So I mean, basically it's completely shut down and it's a sprained. All he knows is it's a elbow sprained and he was talking about how his extension to the plate is he has one of the longest extensions in baseball as far as his extension to the plate is the 99th percentile six, eight big dude and kind of being more efficient with his mechanics and cleaning up those mechanics. That takes some stress off of his elbow. So we'll see. I mean, the Dodgers, they pretty much already do a six man rotation. It's not official, a six man rotation, but the way they maneuver it. I mean, they're right at the top of the league when it comes to how many days of rest they give their pitchers. Believe it or not, it's the truth. And we'll see. I mean, maybe go to a, go to a 12 man rotation, right? Go to 10 man rotation. I mean, but it may be seen, how are you going to optimize him next season? I think do you have clean up those mechanics and feel better about it because kind of looking back on it, I will say that even with kind of the extra rest, it's more about just the overall innings and the stress of those innings because even though Glass now said that he was ready to pitch and to maybe he told us on the show, he wanted to make as many starts as he ever has. He wanted to pitch as many innings. He kind of had to save the pitcher and the player from themselves. I mean, a guy who just blew past his career high goes 135 plus innings. Previous high was 120 goes passes career high and starts. I mean, I think that you really could have potentially saved him better than you did and looking back. I mean, hindsight is 20 20, but who knows do you start him later in the year? Do you start him in June? So he's ready for October. I'd rather have that right than the other way around because they're going to have to find a way to get the most in their investment of Tyler Glass now because the first year when he was on the mound, he was the Dodgers best pitcher. He was elite. He was great, but for this contract to be considered a successful contract, he has to have a role and pitch well for this team in the postseason. So year one, you have to say that you have to consider it a a lost year. I wouldn't call it a failure because injuries happen, but you have to consider a lost year and for us to look back on that 136 and a half million dollar extension, you're going to need to see more from Tyler Glass now. So that's definitely unfortunate, but a couple more here guys. We got, we got, we'll be back tomorrow, we'll be back tomorrow and we'll break it all down. Mookie's defense does not make up for a subpar offense, not to mention Freddie looks lost. Hey, I mean, there's no doubt about it that Mookie really has been pretty solid since he's been back. I mean, he's been really good to great at time. So, I mean, I'm not overly concerned about that. I mean, he was hot out of the gates. And so far in September, I mean, Mookie hitting, has 847 OPS just a couple of games ago. He was against the Marlins in the first game that series went to for five, had a triple. Yeah. I mean, he's not, he's been fantastic of late and then Freddie Freeman in September. He's been dealing with stuff. He's still dealing with the finger injury in September and 805 OPS. So I'm not worried about Freddie Freeman and Mookie bets. I mean, recent, I mean, Freddie Freeman had a two hit game, a three hit game just a couple days ago. I mean, he was went three for five and he had a one, two, three, four, five game hitting streak. So I'm not worried about those guys. I, I, for me, it's not really what they're doing now. It's just, can you keep those guys fresh? Yes. They had one hit, they went one for 23 combined the last year's DS, but you got to hope the law of averages and also just a little less pressure with show, hey, Otani and Taoska Hernandez in the lineup. They're going to be able to have success. I'm pretty confident that they, they will, but we got, uh, Lux is hitting 70 points higher than Taylor. The math is in hard. We got, uh, David and then what has Lux done lately other than a bunch of errors. So yeah, you guys, uh, kind of on the, the anti-lux train once again, I see, yeah, I mean, he's definitely, I think he's undergoing a little bit of a, they're adjusting to me period in September. Hasn't been a good month. I mean, in August, he was hitting 295 and 884 OPS, September hitting 171 with a 518 OPS. So yeah, he has cooled off. He has cooled off. He did have a hit on Thursday yesterday, like one for three with an RBI. So that's definitely encouraging, but yeah, he's needs to pick it up. There's no doubt about it. He needs to pick it up. No doubt about it. This has to be Kershaw's last year or one more tops, Daniel Clark and DMACC, I'm a bonafide Dodger Homer and even I don't want to see Kershaw. Kershaw is Dunzo DMACC, please Alex Renteria. So yeah, so look, here's the thing guys, this is what I love about the show. We can debate. We can have arguments. For me, it's not, oh, I want Kershaw to be my give him the ball in game four. No, no, it's, this team has dealt with a lot of significant injuries. You want as many options as you can. If I had to pick right now, I mean, Walker Bueller, a guy who struggled throughout the season, it looks like he's a lot to be a game three starter, okay? And we'll see what can Kershaw accomplish from now up until whenever he gets an opportunity in the postseason, but you know that this organization is going to give him a shot. You know that this organization is going to lean towards giving him an opportunity because of his, his track record and yes, he's had his bad starts in the postseason and we can dive into that. I've re-watched all of them way more than I should, right? But the truth of the matter is, is that the alternatives aren't that great. I mean, I think land and knack should be in the conversation to start game three. I truly do. I think land and knack has a case. I'm, I'm team land and knack game three. I truly am. I mean, we'll see how Walker Bueller performs, but I mean, it's a big start tomorrow. I mean, it's the Rockies, but still another opportunity for this team. But yep, guys, cut more, no Gonslin, the postseason, all he doesn't have. Yeah. I mean, you think Kershaw's, he already has bad in the postseason. Gonslin's is 920. I mean, I mean, it's like I said, the alternatives, right? Glass now played a key role in the 2024 Dodgers. Now it's time for Bueller, Kershaw, Gonslin, et cetera, to pick up Slack from here. Yeah. That's a great point. I mean, Glass now still the 130 plus innings. This team wouldn't be where it is without his contributions this season. So let's win for Tyler Glass now, man. Let's get him that ring that he deserves. Jay Bullitt, a six man rotation would have avoided the Gavin and Tyler injuries. Let's do it next year. Next year, you don't really have a choice because you're, here's this pitch. Again, this one guy, this is one guy they're going to get back because it's Shoyo Tani. That's right. The guy who is 52 52 rehabbing from a second major arm surgery, that guy's going to be back on the mound next year and you're going to go six man rotation unofficially, no matter what, delirium nine, maybe we set up it. So Glass now only pitches from July to October for the remainder of his contract or pitch count pitch limit. I mean, they're going to have to figure something out. I think here's the thing. All these are good ideas, but I think that what I learned today from Tyler Glass now is press conference is the biggest issue is he's putting way too much stress on his elbow because of his mechanics because he's going max velocity, max whatever curve ball slider, whatever his pitch of choice is, and you have to clean up those mechanics. And I think that the biomechanics of it all have to be explored on every level to take less stress off, smooth it out, make it more efficient. And whether it be kind of limit the extension or whatever it may be, that's where you have to address because anytime he's on the mound, it can be 50 innings to 120 innings. The violence of his release and his delivery are what lead to these injuries ultimately. The high leverage to the high stuff, the crazy stuff, man. I like this. We just need phrasing with the NLCS MVP, Mookie stop, bowling man, Grayson was up Grayson, Alex Rancheria Kershaw is pitching for his kids now from Diane Schroeder, Otani, extend Edmund. Yeah. Edmund will be back next season. Love him as a player, as a Dodger, I mean, he's pretty much imagine what Kiki and Chris Taylor, what they hope they were going to be, Edmund's the better version of that. He truly is, but yep, guys, that's going to do a couple more here. DMACC, time to put it out on the, okay, guys are really going hard on Kershaw for sure. Kershaw retired four years ago, his brain hasn't realized it yet. Wow. The Christians aren't in the chat tonight, but yep, guys, that's going to do over this episode of the Dodgers Nation post game show. My name is Doug McCain. You can follow me on X and Instagram ad DMACC underscore LA will be back tomorrow, breaking it all down. Any breaking news will be going live, but thanks again, guys, for joining us. I would say that to my son and I mean, come on, man, just go. This isn't CBS. All right. Be quiet for a few seconds. Why would people want to listen to the Sims complete podcast? Well, a couple of things. One, if you like to see sons pick on their father, this might be the place. If you want to see a place where the father just kicks he out of his son, this will be the place. What do you like about it, Matt? Dido. Father, son, dynamic duo talking about the game of football that we love and share and appreciate together. And, you know, hey, it's an extension of what we did, right? Growing up, I was able to watch my father play football, then obviously watch him as a broadcaster. And then he taught me the game of football and share the wisdom that he learned throughout his playing career.
