Doug Houlton welcome into the show everyone glad you're with us here on Tiger Talk over time on a Thursday night and we certainly have a lot to talk about tonight what a mess I guess that's a good way to put it I'm not going to lie to you as far as Auburn football right now nobody expected us to lose two out of the first four games and have the situation that we have at quarterback and turnovers and all of that issue freeze right that is simply a matter of not turning the ball over and this team will win or is it more complicated than that we'll certainly get into that tonight with Brian Brinsfield and Kevin Fickner in just a couple of minutes we'll talk some football and the Oklahoma game coming up as you heard last hour Saturday at two thirty in Jordan hair stadium also later in the show Logan Fowler of 1819 news and the Auburn Plainsman joins us to give us his perspective he is close there on the Auburn campus and so we'll talk to Logan a little bit and also as always do Donald will join us to talk football and get his unique perspective on the Tigers and also he'll give us his tailgating tip in the last segment tonight here on Tiger Talk over time here's the good news pro day for the Auburn basketball team this week and practice started for coach Bruce Pearl and the Tigers so basketball is not far away right around the corner and things getting started a little earlier than they used to with it used to be practice on October 18th as coach Pearl reminded us this week but anyway an optimistic slant for the Tigers this season as it usually is or has been under coach Pearl and a number of new faces coming into the lineup and coach Pearl talked about one of those especially earlier this week to hot metaphor was a guy that was absolutely going to come in and I was only going to play him off the ball and through his own personal development he looks like he can also play point and handle the load of learning three positions because the two and three are identical positions one's just on one side of the floor the other side floor and the enormous responsibility of the one where you need to know every position and he's demonstrated to me that he can handle a couple rotations at point guard so you give some of those dynamics along with bringing in five new guys and it's uh there's I'm going to learn a lot more about my team the next three or four weeks okay we'll be following coach Pearl and the basketball team all the way through until March Madness and as far as football is concerned coach you freeze at the mic you heard him uh last hour as well right here on FM talk 106 5 but at the mic earlier this week trying to stay positive as Auburn heads into a big battle an SEC battle at Jordan hair stadium this weekend with the Oklahoma centers I think there is improvement believe it or not you know but certainly we've got to improve um getting off the field in third and long particularly when offensively we're moving the ball consistently but unfortunately turning it over um half the possessions that we have it um them getting off the field on those third and downs gives us a few more chances to not turn it over because we did effectively move the football we just uh obviously uh losing seven points on the run on the fumble in the end zone is a big big swing and then in the in the uh field goal range to other the the turnover so um just um you know we can't turn the football over and obviously we've got to coach the quarterbacks better um and running backs better in ball security and decision making um to be able to to be an effective offense and so we'll look at every aspect of that and um with Kent um Jesse and myself we're working with the quarterbacks this week we want to welcome in a couple of Auburn Tigers former Tiger Brian Brinsfield and Nashville Tennessee or thereabouts and Kevin Fickner is in Auburn guys uh welcome to the show and War Eagle the thing I see about Auburn after uh this past week is as I was telling uh Kevin a second ago is I think there's a big question mark over Auburn now and coach freeze which we didn't maybe have a week ago that was maybe starting but um you know the question mark is are we on the right path right now and uh Brian take that one a little bit for us and give us your thoughts on last week and and this week and and where we're going here so I get to go first um uh I'll be put on the hot seat first uh no we're not on the right path um we don't have a quarterback uh and and I'm you know this is it's hard for me to say because it's gonna sound like I'm critiquing Auburn football players I'm not critiquing young men it's incredibly hard to play college football you're put out there in front of 85, 90,000 people and and and ask to do things that not many people on earth can do um makes split second decisions with 300 pound 220 pound you know people coming at you um so let me say that off the bat it's I struggle when I hear commentators um you know critique uh college athletes and even pro athletes it's incredibly hard to do what they do however that said we're not on the right path and I put that on the coach not really on the players but on the coach um and and part of being the coach and in in these times is getting the right players to play the right positions and to do the right things and it just doesn't seem like we're there we're behind everybody else in my opinion um again that's not a slam on the kids but that's that's a reality of where we are we don't have a guy that can stand back there and and make decisions and and throw it to the right people and and let's be honest we don't we miss some balls there were there were some balls that hit hands last week that were dropped they weren't dropped they were just missed um and then we had and then our second you know our defense um made had some blunders too so no we're not we're not anywhere near where we need to be where we want to be I think is as Auburn fans um and uh you know having two losses three losses what is it two two losses yeah um and lost count already we have lost count but and to teams that probably we shouldn't have lost to um to be questions so yeah Kevin Fakner give us a little sense of uh Auburn Alabama the atmosphere there the feeling uh on the planes as we head into Oklahoma this weekend another 230 game on ABC it's tough dog you know the fans want to support a good product and we're not getting a good product it's tough to pay these season tickets as opposed to that's tough to have all the hype and excitement and we're two and two four home games our last home game for about a month and a half and we're playing Oklahoma you know it's gonna it's probably our best biggest home game of the year but we had expectations of being undefeated maybe four and one after this game but here we are two and two staring down at two and three or three and two you know we both have uh quarterback issues they switched their quarterback at uh second half last week against Tennessee and and maybe we have a chance because we're both in a struggle bus of a quarterback situations but I think we should ground and pound it if we're struggling with our quarterback let's let's give our running backs more opportunities even though they've had a fumble light it's a little bit let's keep pounding it their average in seven eight yards a carry let's just grind it a little bit make it a a short game by running that clock and if we got to pass on third and eight let's do it but let's run that ball let's establish a ground game is that the solution we'll talk about it more and figure out if it's more complex than that or not more with Brian and Kevin as we continue on Tiger Talk Overtime on a Thursday night glad you're with us here to talk Auburn football and more stay here we'll be right back in just a minute welcome back to Tiger Talk Overtime presented by will to number one in quality and safe work for industry to be a part of the show called the Morgan Bradley Alpha Insurance Tiger Line now 3 4 3 0 1 0 6 now back to Don Colton and welcome back to the show everyone talking to Auburn football tonight as we get ready for Auburn in Oklahoma Brian Brentsfield and Kevin Fickner with us to talk about that right now later Logan Fowler will join us on the Horizon Financial Half-Time Report and then later on Stu Donald joins us to talk some football as well as tailgating but back to the conversation at hand we were talking a little bit about Auburn running the football this week and during the break a little bit about coach freeze in his comments this week about if we played Arkansas nine more times we beat him nine times and I'm not sure exactly why he made that comment but he did and we were talking about the turnovers as well of course and the fact that half of our turnovers Brian I think or not just a result of somebody making a good play defensively or stripping the ball away from a running back but their decision turnovers and I'm not sure exactly how you solve that problem quickly in the middle of a season I think I saw a stat correct me y'all correct me if I'm wrong that we were either dead last or second to last in FBS in turnovers yeah and and that just can't happen and to Kevin's point listen we had this is one of the greatest places to play in college football and we had so many fans out there especially the students they were out in droves for the first four games and you could see on their faces kind of as the the games went on those four games just kind of okay I'm here I want to see it what do we do but yeah the turnovers are a big big problem you cannot score without the football you can't you're giving it to the other team and they're going to score with it um but but I was thinking last night how do you correct that it's down the fundamentals Kevin you might be right that we and Doug and I've talked about this it goes back to maybe 80s football you shrink you shrink the the field down and run the football between the boxes get people in the box this is what and I I bring up saving just about every week he shrunk the box with the backs he had and then that's when he expanded it by throwing the ball and he did what Doug and I talked yesterday he didn't have just Heisman caliber quarterbacks we're talking about average quarterbacks that manage the football game but he but but when they had to load the box and and uh and and tackle a TJ yielding or who's who's the guy that was up here in Tennessee uh Henry Derek Henry right Trent all those guys are interested in all these guys then it opens the field up and it looks like we're trying to throw first and we don't have a quarterback that can do it um unfortunately and to your point we've got three I think good backs and one it's an all SEC preseason all SEC back let's run the football put two tight ends in there and an F maybe and run the football great point yeah seven yards of crack you can't really argue with that I'm not sure how doable that is for Auburn or in the SEC or in college football now but and the other point you got to get to is the quarterback situation and after two losses people start to you know think well we can't do what we wanted to do this season and uh how is recruiting going and are these guys that we recruited a receiver and elsewhere gonna stick around next year and did Hugh Fries make a blunder there when he didn't go out in the in the off season and get a quarterback Kevin what are people thinking about that yeah we've had this conversation a lot I mean this with our friends with media I mean we've got these receivers but all summer we kept waiting for a portal signing but we never got it so we're like okay well I guess Hugh has his guy or you know Peyton whoever it might have been Hank you know Wapper White but as we're finding out you know you got to have a quarterback to throw to these guys and deep down I really hope that these guys can stay because they're looking down the road and seeing Ryan Williams catching balls getting the ball to him we have Kim Coleman you know we have Perry Thompson and they're not seeing the ball a lot what are we going to do with the quarterback situation we put Peyton back in last week it didn't go well you know Waker White he has four gangs we can use on him if we can possibly see what he's made up I don't know if you throw him in or not but you know someone mentioned this week Sam Jackson this finds somebody that can get the ball in short space to our wide receivers keep running the ball and see what can happen but Peyton may not be that solution Hank is still young he's a freshman I don't know what to do because we have all SEC games and it only gets tougher because we start the road games next week yeah and I think it starts to look like last season where we never had a definitive quarterback we had Robbie and Peyton and it continued all season it just it was want you know one would do okay or and then then mess up he would pull him he put the other one in and it was that way pushed and pulled the whole season long I mean until game 11 or whatever you know till the last game of the season and I don't want to see that and I don't think Auburn fans want to see it because that's just uncertainty you have to have a quarterback that's a leader and and if you don't it's trouble for your offense yeah and I think what Kevin mentioned with Sam Jackson it was an interesting point to me do you try something off the wall at this point with at quarterback or do you pull the red shirt off a walker white and try that or what do you think Brian is that is that possible or is he free he's going to go back to his base and and just say Peyton is the best practice player what I think he's going to do is that I think it's going to be Peyton and Hank all year but but why not at this point what do we have to lose we're two you know we're we're two and two like Kevin said we're it's it's all SEC it's all appeal I mean Oklahoma's coming in and you're right they've got a untested quarterback but but he's a great athlete he played they played Tennessee hard then it goes to Georgia but but we do have to keep this is part of the game these days we have to keep the receivers that we have around that's just unfortunately part of the game yeah absolutely uh Kevin uh what do you see uh as far as Oklahoma coming up this weekend we talked a little bit about that and and as Brian mentioned the the student section when I've been at the games every game this year home games has been phenomenal they've been there early they're loud the whole thing is full but uh you know how do you how do you keep from this thing falling apart um and I don't know my gut feeling going into this weekend is that Auburn is gonna bounce back a little bit and play a decent game and have a chance to win this what do you think that's possible I think we said the same thing last week you know and in Arkansas our first SEC game they're not as strong as we think they are and we lose um as far as Oklahoma I think they they have a good defense when they held a high-powered Tennessee offense to under 30 points so I would imagine this would be a lower scoring game um but you know like you said the student experience the game day experience is great we do great things to get people in the game and get them all hyped up the product has to keep them coming back though you know you know it has to keep them coming back so let's do something you know you know like uh like Brian said you got to keep those receivers happy what's wrong with a little five-yard out screen pass or a jet sweep get them more touches let them do things in space they they have speed they have skills that not too many people have and you got to feed them or else they might be looking elsewhere if the state of the goes downhill you know I'm worried about that fans are worried about that yeah and I know Brian you mentioned that before about the jets reaps and you got to get these guys hands on the football and that's what you do when you have a quarterback the struggling you do run the slants you do run the quick now screens you do run the jets but but even that guys last week I watched it two nights ago um again on ESPN and we couldn't hit that we couldn't hit the hitches we couldn't hit the slants we couldn't catch the slant um so what do you do there and it is just it's just baffling it really is baffling and and Doug you said it yesterday our defenses is rallying to the ball they are playing hard football now not sound football but hard Auburn football you know they they've made some mistakes and boy it flashed me back to six games ago the uh the Alabama game that third and long getting behind us um but but they're playing good football we've got to score we've got to score points yeah and it made me think of uh some of the glaring holes that the quarterback ran through last week for Arkansas made me think of the the young kid that Oklahoma has coming in yeah this week as a traveler yeah yeah we can't let that happen this week right no yeah I also heard um you know fourth and 31 last in the iron ball last year we sent three guys on the line I think I heard the same thing against Arkansas on a long third down play this past week we sent three guys come on send six send an extra we got a blitz if they burn us they burn us but if we give them all day they're gonna scramble somebody we'll get open what's blitz we cannot keep making these same mistakes seems like it seems like a no-brainer yeah and that's in the house again again that's it may be it may be the case of a kid not doing what he's coached to do but that's coaching on my it's a me you don't let a center fielder uh the the back end of an eight a drop eight the that person never gets the beat the there's never his back is never to the quarterback he's always facing the quarterback so he knows where the ball is and it happened it happened to us again and I just don't understand how that happens it shouldn't happen um at a d3 school and it's happening to an SEC team that's won multiple national championships and should have more than more than two exactly and we lost uh champ last week back there as well so that won't help this weekend but guys appreciate you being with us uh we'll watch it this weekend and hopefully the Tigers can come up with a a good performance and get a W uh thanks for being with us in War Eagle we're still going to root them on War Eagle Doug all right Kevin Fickner and Brian Brentsfield joining us in the last couple of segments talking some Auburn football what should Auburn do this weekend how do they come out on offense and who will be under center for the Tigers some interesting questions there um certainly have been successful to a point in running the football so far this year seven yards a crack for uh Jarquez Hunter and Damari Austin and the crew and we'll see how they do this weekend what kind of philosophy coach freeze and the coaching staff Kent Austin and Nick's and others come up with against the Oklahoma Center should be a great battle again Saturday 230 on ABC and you can listen to the game right here on FM Talk 1065 when we come back to Horizon Financial Half-Time Report we're going to chat a little bit with Logan Fowler of 1819 News and the Auburn Plainsman get his close-up perspective from Auburn Alabama in just a minute say well this will be right back after a short time out welcome back to Tiger Talk over time presented by will to number one in quality and safe work for industry to be a part of the show call the Morgan Bradley Alpha Insurance Tiger Line now 343 0106 now back to Don Colton all right welcome back to everyone's time now for the Horizon Financial Half-Time Report brought to you by Horizon Financial come with us and experience the Horizon difference go by and see Henry Hardy and his great staff in Daphne right at the entrance of Timber Creek this week all right joining us on the halftime show this week is Logan Fowler who is a beat writer in Auburn he's a student at Auburn he's got a podcast going so a lot of things on the table for Logan Fowler Logan appreciate you being with us and tell us a little bit of what you do on the Plains this season yeah so I just recently started on the Auburn beat covering Auburn football have a little bit of basketball coverage baseball when they get here so I started that with 1819 news at a Birmingham and then I do a little bit of student riding for the Auburn Plains win I'm a sports reporter there at the Auburn Plains win so got a little bit of content coming in out of there so that's really all but also I've got a got a podcast going with another guy on the beat it's live from the Plains we have a couple shows every week we talk and dissect Auburn football so yeah I mean it's uh it's been a busy semester so far a bit of busy football season but it's uh it's all fun and I enjoy it yeah interesting times on the Plains for sure after last weekend then the loss to cow and then the loss um also last weekend to Arkansas I just wanted to get your your feel your take as to what people are thinking at Auburn obviously you're around these guys a little bit you're around the coaches and the press conferences and that type of thing what's the mood in Auburn what are people thinking after last weekend and you know the people I talked to are kind of kind of down that uh we may not have a chance to do to do what we wanted to do this year yeah I mean obviously the Auburn fans um they're down right now this is not the the start they wanted the seasons not start that the coach is one of the season but uh the feeling around the program is that they they believe that in what they're doing uh you know we heard that from freeze um if you go look at at the statistics from the offense thus far if you take away the turnovers this is one of the best offenses in the country yeah they've had no no problem moving the ball down the field um it's just just you know obviously those turnovers you're you're looking at 10 turnovers being the difference in two and two and four and out um so I mean the feeling around the program is that that they can get those cleaned up they can move on from that and they can they can succeed the rest of the season obviously it doesn't get any easier for freeze uh from here on out this is probably his biggest challenge coming out with Oklahoma this week you uh you know obviously he made the statement on a tiger talk the other night talking about you know uh the if they play Arkansas nine more times he thinks they beat them nine more times which what I've said that probably not but hey uh whatever he believes um but but to go along with that you know you look at Cal and you look at Arkansas they were both inferior opponents to Auburn um from a talent perspective at least and uh like like I like I'm saying it doesn't get any easier from here um so so get back to your question the vibes around the program they're they're up they're positive um but the vibes in the city of Auburn with the fans um are they're not as as high as they are in the uh football facility that's for sure yeah the question I mean of course everybody heard that comment that you freeze made about Arkansas and beating them nine times out of nine and I was trying to figure out to myself what exactly does that is that true could that be true or what exactly does that mean and why did he say that I you know I I really don't know I don't I'm not I mean I get where he's coming from it I believe that what he was trying to say obviously is um we're the more talented team and you know if if if Auburn doesn't turn the ball over like I said five times in that game then he believes that that they win it um why he said it I'm not sure because you know you you played them that's the only time your game's over and they beat you so you know that doesn't your comments don't really add up to what happened on the field um but so the problem I have Logan is half of those turnovers are coming in the passing game which I see as I mean when you read coach freeze's comments it seems like that's an easy thing to fix but the way I think about it is it's not quite as easy as he makes it sound because it seems like to me it's a decision-making problem and uh I don't know I don't know how you fix that in the short term yeah I mean obviously he thinks that that's something they can get cleaned up um I actually heard a an interview with Peyton Thorne today he was kind of talking about some of those those interceptions that he's thrown and he pointed out us you know three or four of them that um you know he thought we're just inches or just a couple you know feet away from being bang or positive plays for Auburn instead of um negative plays but I mean how do you fix that in the middle of the season I don't know that's gotta be it's gotta be something that the coaches take on um you know Ken Austin coach freeze uh they're the QB whispers so this is I mean they've got it they've got to get it fixed um freeze the first thing he said in his press conference when he got hired at Auburn was um you know he believes he's a pretty good developer of quarterbacks um up until this point he's not proving that at Auburn so yeah I'm not sure that that's the that's an issue you get fixed in the middle of the season but you obviously can't go any go any uh get any worse from here I want to take a minute to tell you about Henry Hardy and Horizon Financial a company built on knowledge personal service and integrity Henry Hardy has over 32 years in financial services Henry Hardy is a smart vester chatting again on the Horizon Financial Half Time report with Logan Fowler of 1819 news in the Auburn Plainsman as well as his podcast and Logan great to have you with us again uh this week on the show I wanted to ask you a little bit more about the quarterbacks you see these guys again up close uh around the program in the locker room you know on the practice field do you have faith in Peyton Thorne to lead this Auburn football team this weekend and the rest of the way and and do you think other people have have faith in him to do that do other people have faith in Peyton Thorne absolutely not um do I have faith in Peyton Thorne I do I mean I believe that he can get the job done I'm not going to sit here and say that I think he's uh you know top five quarterback in the SEC that's just not who he is um but you know with the with the talent that he's got around him he's a he's a fifth year starter the guys played a lot of football he's someone a lot of passes he's seen a lot of defenses he knows he prepares um handles himself very well um I do like the way he carries himself around that facility um so I think he can get the job done obviously um you know when we go out to practice and we get to watch that very very limited amount of time but even the pre-season when we're allowed a little bit more time you know he looks good um and and freeze said that a couple weeks ago after he pulled him he said you know Peyton's Peyton won the job because he's been the best in practice um so I've got faith that he can get the job done but there's got to be a lot of improvements made on the field because I did watch um after the cow game I watched Aaron Murray's film breakdown he did on YouTube um and so when I went back and watched that you know in the in when I was watching the game um I'm thinking well you know there's a lot of factors going into this offensive line play receiver play all these things um but then after watching that film breakdown it was very discouraging for Auburn fans I would say um lots of plays where he's missing wide open receivers down the field lots of miss timing um miscommunication with his receivers so that's definitely not something you want to see from your fifth year starting quarterback but I mean we've seen him do it before so I do think that he can get it done again yeah and the other factor I guess when you talk about uh the quarterbacks you know a lot of people talk about should we have gone to get another quarterback in the offseason that's water under the bridge now but with the quarterbacks we have now and the receiving core we have now which is pretty good after the guys we brought in if they're not getting the ball and our offense isn't clicking uh what's happening to those guys postseason and what happens to recruiting during the season at postseason right well I mean it's obviously it's going to be it's going to be tough to keep that that uh top five recruiting class that you've got together um you know obviously these guys believe in a message that you freeze has given them uh they can see that obviously Auburn needs the help they need all the help they can get um with the guys that are already on your roster you know I won't say that that nothing can't happen obviously with the crazy news that broke this morning with uh the UNLV quarterback I will never rule anything out in college football nowadays yeah but I think some of the guys on the roster your younger receivers know that it's going to take a little time for them to come in and develop and see the field um so I mean I don't think there'll be a whole lot of roster shake up roster turnover from a young player perspective for next year um but obviously if you're freeze and then you've got to put some product on the field for this upcoming recruiting class to see and build off of yeah talking with Logan Fowler a little bit about Auburn football tonight and glad you're with us the Auburn game against Oklahoma 230 on Saturday at Jordan Harris Stadium I think we're ESPN this week is that right I think it's ABC ABC ABC yeah um my gut feeling Logan is that Auburn comes out and plays a pretty good football team this weekend a pretty good football game this weekend against Oklahoma and has a chance to win it uh maybe they do win it in the end what what's your what's your gut going in um after seeing what I've seen on the field for the first four weeks I'm not very confident this uh that this Auburn team is going to go in there and get a win this is like I said earlier their biggest test of the season um something coming into Auburn's favor is definitely you know Oklahoma is still struggling to find that offensive identity um they just uh can't I don't know the guy's name off the top of my head but the freshman quarterback they've got something in for Jackson Arnold you know that's uh he's an athletic guy but something that's you know falling into Auburn's favor there um I wouldn't expect Auburn to go in there and turn the ball over five times I just don't I just don't see that happen anymore if you know if if there's another turnover problem this weekend then you've got some serious serious questions um about about this season so I don't want to expect Auburn to win but I do expect Auburn to come out there and play a pretty good game yeah if you do have Jack West or Damari turn the ball over do you do you give it to Cobb do you put him in the game I don't see why not yeah I mean if if if you're not going to get that cleaned up give it to somebody who who will yeah fantastic we'll appreciate you visiting with us uh Logan this week on the show and tell people again how they can read your stuff and hear your podcast and that kind of thing yeah absolutely you can find my written work with 1819news.com obviously I write a little bit for the student newspaper here at Auburn with the Auburn Plainsman you can follow me on X or Twitter at Logan F. Fowler and uh I've got a got a podcast live from the Plains it comes out usually every Sunday and every Thursday so you can follow that on Spotify on YouTube perfect again appreciate you being with us and uh good luck to the Tigers this week in and worry them yes sir I appreciate you having me on. When we come back it'll tiger talk over time we'll visit with Stu Donald get his thoughts on the Tigers and tailgated in just a minute stay here. Welcome back to tiger talk over time presented by will to number one in quality and safe work for industry to be a part of the show call the Morgan Bradley Alpha Insurance Tiger line now 3430106 now back to Don Colton all right welcome back everyone final segment here on tiger talk over time Thursday night and glad to welcome in once again Stu Donald of the sipping chew with Mike and Stu show and Stu it's great to have you with us I guess to talk some Auburn football here I know we're not in the best of moods and we kind of choked on that pork sandwich last week but we've got a little chance to redeem ourselves this week what are you thinking? I'm thinking this is supposed to be fun and it isn't right now yeah well tell me uh your thoughts on last weekend in the Arkansas game obviously we made a lot of mistakes and we can get a lot better probably did some things well but not enough to win the football game and a lot of turnovers mixed in there yeah you know I brought up the stat last week in the last six games we were two and four well now in the last seven games were two and five yeah with five of those losses being among the most embarrassing and programmed history that's that's who we are right now that's what this staff has us at and how do we get that turned around do you think is is there a quick fix or not at this point I don't know I just just I'm not demanding anybody be fired but if this ends up being six wins or less I think Hughes should consider stepping down because his promise was he turns programs around he turns around quickly he promised he was a quarterback guru and he always develops quarterbacks and so far we haven't seen any evidence of that and if you look back his entire career hangs on two wins against Nick Saban that were largely luck yeah and then the rest of his his college coaching career has been yeah yeah he did well against nobody did did pretty well at Liberty we're giving that he had a pretty successful record there yeah name was successful at Ole Miss but both of those are second tier program well Liberty's a third tier I mean when he got there they only played football for one year yeah yeah and for some people maybe that's it maybe Ole Miss is his cap it appears to be Lane's cap I mean Lane was at Southern Cal and he was as big a wreck as this has been so far yeah and I and I've said that several times I know on the show so far this year is that what you said you freeze came in and said we can do this we've got a history of doing this flipping the thing fast and then after that first recruiting class the first portal class which kind of was a bust they started to say we're going to build this thing right it's going to take some time so yeah but what I can understand is Cal got better this year and Arkansas got better this year and we got worse yeah apparently with more talent I mean he he's you know all we heard last year is the talent's not here yet and I know that we don't have Georgia talent or Alabama talent but we have better than Vanderbilt talent we had better talent than Arkansas or Cal have yeah I mean good Lord Cal lost to Florida State well I thought we were pretty close in talent with Arkansas realistically probably probably had a little bit better in some spots yeah but but you're right and you know I keep thinking about you mentioned Q phrase being a quarterback guy and that's that's his MO how much is that going to come back to haunt him getting the four receivers or more than four receivers that we got this year and putting his trust in Peyton Thorne and not going out and getting a quarterback in the offseason yeah and you know we've got a four-star quarterback that's been dying to commit here for a month now and every time he shows up on campus the offense lays an egg yeah and it's all right if we handle our business with Cal and beat them the way our talent should have beaten them I think do Snights already on the the watch list but I don't blame him for having doubts about the coaching ability because I know I do I have my doubts about it now and a lot of back and forth in the last week or two weeks between Hugh Freeze and Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss that seems to be the main two schools when we're talking about Deuce Knight and maybe some other recruits now you know Lane talking about how Hugh Freeze as a coach always throws his players under the bus and how Lane Kiffin treats them better and that kind of thing so not sure that's totally correct the way he praises it but what do you think about that our little battle inside battle with Ole Miss right now well Hugh does not need to try and out Twitter Lane Kiffin because if there's one thing he is good at it's being a Twitter troll Lane Kiffin is a first grade troll yeah and he's very good at it may not be the greatest coach in the world not a bad coach mind you but you know certainly not a top tier coach he's proven that so far but he is top tier being a troll yeah I know I noticed the I saw his ex-page the other day just by chance and he was sitting there watching his daughter put on her makeup and having a conversation which I thought was a little bizarre but well that's Lane yeah anyway Kiffin going to Kiffin all right we got one more home game at Jordan Hare here before the the spurt on the road and what do we got cooking this weekend for for tailgating well I got a recipe that works great for tailgating because everybody loves buffalo wings but if you're doing buffalo wings at a tailgate you're doing a lot of work if you're frying them you're cooking them I often will bake the wings instead in fact I like them baked better than fried most of the time uh-huh but even that's a lot of work so what I've got is something you can make the day before I'm not a big fan of chicken salad and I had a restaurant where they asked me to come up with a chicken salad and I just don't like it so I came up with one that I would like and that's a buffalo chicken salad and it's just real easy if you want to do shredded chicken like you do when you do chicken salad by all means I usually do diced I prefer the texture the shredded is part of the reason I don't like chicken salad I think it's weird but I do half mayonnaise and half ranch dressing and then you add your uh Frank's red hot sauce to it to get it to the flavor and the heat that you want add your chicken into it and then in addition I put shredded carrots and finely diced celery so you've got that whole carrot and celery thing going on with a buffalo wings let it all mix up let it sit over the night next day you can do it in sandwiches you can do it with crackers chips however you want to do it I like to garnish mine with blue cheese crumbles and then another little drizzle of the Frank's red hot across the top and save the leaves from the celery stalk because those are herbs just take the leaves and sprinkle them on top it'll look pretty and it will punch up that celery that aromatic feel that you get from celery and you could put it in celery too or not yeah I don't see why you could yeah leave the diced celery out and just stuff celery stalks with it with the shredded carrot maybe as a garnish would be good too which get all those flavors and uh we used to do it at Lucky when I was there they wanted a chicken salad nuts I'd come up with it before but that's where I put it on the menu and people thought it was fantastic and every now and then they'd ask us to put it in the oven and then it turned into a buffalo chicken dip gotcha sounds good on a sandwich on crackers on celery what ever uh hopefully some chicken salad sooner rather than later this weekend ha ha ha I like what you did there you know it's funny where boomers sooner came from is the Oklahoma land rush the land boom and they were supposed to start I think it at 6 a.m. like on a Friday everyone's lined up in a row and you know we've all seen images from it if you've seen movies where all the wagons take off well a bunch of people decided they'd go sneak out there the night before and go ahead and put their steaks on land and they got there sooner and that's where it comes right it basically we cheated and that's what we call our team not that Oklahoma cheats and they suspense will tell you they cheat I saw the uh was at the 2004 Red River rivalry and uh the cotton bolt uh-huh your Auburn should have played for the national championship I went to the game of the buddy of mine and every single time there was a five-yard penalty for false start or something against Oklahoma the Texas fans go cheaters cheaters stoops your cheating ways are coming back to haunt you it was ridiculous all right no cheating this weekend lots of chicken salad let's get a win the Auburn Tigers 230 ABC right here on FM Talk 1 on 6-5 that's all the time we have for this week on Tiger Talk Overtime enjoy the game everybody until next week Doug Halton warring go!
