A woman who's aiming to complete two laps of the Raad ny Foillan is set to complete her challenge today.

Anjie Rook is the Associate Director of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and has been walking the Island's coastline - 200 miles in total - to mark 200 years of the lifesaving charity.

So far she's raised almost £2,900.

Sir William Hillary, a Douglas resident, founded the RNLI in 1824 after witnessing a number of shipwrecks around the Isle of Man.

Angela has been speaking with Lewis Foster.

2024 is the Arnoldised 200th anniversary and our founder Sir William Hilary, he lived in Douglas the Isle of Man and it was there that he saw so many shipwrecks that he was inspired to write his petition to the nation which ultimately in 1824 saw the life-saving service that we know and love today being formed. I first came on holiday here to this beautiful island back in 2009, 15 years ago and became aware of the rad nepholian, the way of the girl, the beautiful coast path that wraps itself around this island nation and thought if I'm ever working for the Royal National Life but Institution and the lifeboats in 15 years time that's something I'd really like to do to mark the 200th anniversary. Little did I know at that time I'd actually get to lead on the whole of the 200th anniversary for this amazing life-saving charity and so it's my way of both marking the moment but also personally saying thank you to the RNLI for everything that all our life savers have done in those 200 years and I hope I can raise a little bit of funds as well which will help us continue into our third century of life-saving. So many years in the making this journey you've been on, how have you found it so far? Of course you're aiming for 200 miles. Indeed I am at 200 miles for 200 years that's two laps of the Isle of Man because the rad nepholian is 100 miles each way and I have spent a long time thinking about how best to do that. I'm not an extreme athlete, I'm not someone who gets up in the morning and can run a marathon straight away so I've had to prepare and actually I've used quite a lot of our own water safety and education guidance from the lifeboats to be able to work out how best to do that so thinking about my roots planning ahead, making sure not someone knows where I am, making sure I've got the right kit, looking at the weather forecast and of course I've had to think about tide times on this coast path as well because in certain places you can't pass if it's high tide so there's lots and lots of learnings from my work and my experience with the iron alive that I've brought to bear on this incredible journey. And just a reminder Zengie, where abouts you are on the rad nepholian now? At this precise second I am between mackled head and port corn eye and I'm about an hour between each of those. I'm up on a lovely high hill so hopefully you can hear me well. I'm actually looking at the Cumbrian Mountains opposite over across the Irish Sea. We can hear some nice birds, birdsong in the background. What sort of wildlife have you experienced on your journey? What's the nature being like? Oh amazing wildlife and I'm just going to start walking a little bit because you might hear both my footsteps and also the wildlife then. It's been wonderful. The marine life here being a biosphere of course, the UNESCO biosphere is phenomenal. Saw some beautiful seals, baby seals as well, down at the calf of man, down by the Sound Cafe there the other day. I also have seen some incredible wildlife in the fields. I've seen beautiful wild falcons. I think they are certainly birds of prey and then I've seen wonderful farming agriculture as well. Lovely curly horn sheep who are very interested in me for some reason. They all stop and stare so I've seen everything and I've taken lots of photos of the wildlife as well. It's been a real pleasure to be out and about and in this wonderful countryside to see it. Many people compare the countryside to the likes of Scotland. Some people say New Zealand, is it anywhere like you've experienced before? I'm lucky enough to have been to various parts of the world but I can truly say that this coast path stands out for me not just because it's beautiful coastal scenery but the people here are very welcoming. The path is very well maintained and I've got to be say that the weather has been very kind to me the last two weeks and so I have been blessed to be able to see the best of it. You are hoping to finish on Thursday afternoon. Where about are you ending up? Well there is only one place that I can finish this incredible 200 mile walk and that is Douglas Lifeboat Station. Douglas being the home of our founder. I started the walk there. I reached the halfway point there after 100 miles and I will finish there on Thursday afternoon and I'm hoping that I'll be able to see some of the crew and say hello and say thank you to all those incredible volunteers here in the Isle of Man for everything they've done and supported me in making this possible. The R&L is the charity that saves lives at sea. It's 200 years old this year and it is a charity completely funded by public donations and supporters. So this is my my way of saying thank you to the R&L also to raise some funds. You can find out all about my walk you can see daily updates and if you wish to do so donate as well on my just giving site just search Angela Rook 200 just giving. Just to say thank you to everyone in the Isle of Man for all the support that they give the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. It's a wonderful nation and it's incredible that the R&L is here 200 years on and still here helping serve all those communities. Thank you for making it to the end of the Manx Radio Newscast.
