[MUSIC PLAYING] It's the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. Did I hear you're shopping for a car? Because I've been at it for ages. Such a time-suck, right? Not really. I bought it on Carvana, super convenient. Oh, then comes all the financing, research, am I right? Well, you can, but I got pre-qualified for a Carvana auto loan in, like, two minutes. Yeah, but then all the number crunching in terms, right? Nope, I saw real numbers as I shopped, found my dream car, and got it in a couple of days. Wait, like, you already have it? Yep. Go to Carvana.com to finance your car the convenient way. Is Illinois for real? I got a big test in Happy Valley. We may have the answer to that question for you here. Plus, how about Minnesota and Michigan? They got to grind it and run it out? Plus, the Buckeye still look flawless. Let's talk about it. It's time for the Big Ten Squad. You're talking ball with the Big Ten Squad. From USC to Ohio State, from Michigan to Oregon, from Nebraska to Washington, it's the local expert that's a locked-on podcast network, bringing you scoops, breakdowns, and the most comprehensive preview of the upcoming Big Ten weekend. No hurt feelings and thin skin allowed. Squad up, you're part of the Big Ten Squad. All right, welcome to the lockdown Big Ten Squad. Just sit back, relax. Let's talk some football. We'll shoot the breeze going into Week Five of the college football season. I'm Craig Scheeman, the host of lockdown Big Ten. And today's episode is brought to you by FanDuel. Of course, FanDuel, you can place your first $5 bet and you'll get started with $200 in bonus bets. Guaranteed, visit FanDuel.com and get started. Let's introduce you to the squad here today. Of course, we have Sonny Burma from lockdown online. I believe making his first appearance on the squad and why not, therefore, no, Sonny, welcome aboard. Good to have you on. Appreciate you guys having me on. Yeah, last couple weeks, the show's been on my feed and the comments are always like, hey, they all picked against the alignment again. So I figured I'd come show my face while I can and while I still have that zero in the lost column. All right, well, we'll talk about that. We'll get there. We've got Zach Anderson, Yoxheimer from lockdown UCLA. Good first half against LSU. Jay Stevens, everything's on cruise control with lockdown Buckeyes. Jacob Goins from lockdown to Hoosiers as well. Their porno is well getting ready to take on Maryland and Roman Tomo Shaw from lockdown Huskies. We want to talk about them as well. They got some Friday night lights going across the country to Rockers. But gentlemen, before we start, I have something I want to share with you. This is from Matt Sheehan from lockdown. Spartans who could not be here today. This is directed at you, Jay, of course, the lockdown Buckeyes. Oh, gosh. From the offices of lockdown Spartans, I regret I am not able to attend tonight's chat with you, marvelous gentlemen. I am here to get ahead of Jay Stevens, the golden voice of lockdown Buckeyes, asking if I and Michigan State are ready for our butt kicking. The answer is, yes, I am. I am numb to all 30 plus point defeats against Ohio State, thanks to the last four years. But the joke's on Jay. This game being on Peacock means only six people outside of Michigan State and Ohio State. We'll even know about it. And odds are they'll switch to binging on below deck episodes before it truly gets out of hand. So, ha, Jay, I'll let you respond to Matt who is not here. I mean, it is kind of nice for the Spartans fans that the game was on the Peacock. So they don't have to be embarrassed by the nation. It's just more people that are making sure they got the Peacock in. They can figure out how to pay for it to find it. I'm ready for this game. I know Matt's ready for a beat down once again. Ohio State's really owned Michigan State of late. And I think it's gonna be the same thing as coming Saturday. Ryan Day's not happy. Yes, Ohio State won big once again on Saturday, but he's not happy with the way the defense played. There was no defensive player of the game for the game this past weekend because Jim Knowles said nobody really showed and played like they were. They were what they called the silver bullet of the game. So I do expect Michigan State to not only get beat, but to get beat bad because the players are gonna try to get that award because nobody got it last week. You know, you know things are going well when they find something to complain about over there at Ohio State. You guys look good to me. Yeah, we complain about a lot of stuff. I did a show recently actually on Tuesday about the defense and just really kind of talking about some things that were kind of exposed against Marshall, but stuff that has been the same song and dance over and over. Will Howard said, when you win 49 to 14, no one's really going to complain. That's what we do in Columbus. We find things to complain about and we're doing it right now because it's not just beating teams bad. It's winning a national championship in this season. So prediction 30 plus point win for you guys over Michigan. Michigan State likes to turn the ball over a lot. Charles throws a lot of interceptions. Yeah, I would say 30 plus. I haven't really got that far to put a score prediction down. I think 30 plus is easy for this game. All right, Sonny, let's talk to you. The finding a line like 4-0 ranked going into Beaver Stadium. Did I see the point spread today? He's like 17 points on that thing. Still no respect for the finding a line on it. You know, last year or sorry, last week, I think the kickoff, it was Nebraska minus nine. I was surprised. I figured the spread would open up anywhere from 10 to 13. Seeing that 17 and a half number, again, we're just going to have to go into, you know, Penn State and try to win back some respect. The crowd just doesn't want to give it to us yet. Can they do it though? Can they do it? Can they? Can they make it respectable? Let me put it that way. I think they can make it respectable. Nebraska is different in the sense where I had that as a coin flip game. I know a lot of people, including everyone here, except for Jacob, but I did watch last week, had Nebraska winning. I thought Illinois would compete. I knew Brett would have the team ready. Penn State's just kind of on a different level. They're a tier above. And so I'm not sure if Illinois can go into a hostile environment two weeks in a row and, you know, shock the world. Was it personal, Sonny? I promise. Was it personal, man? It's truly. Yeah, we got both games wrong, but we really don't need to get into that. If our reasons were simple, I had no reason. And so if I'm wrong, it's not that big of a deal. It's not the end of the world. For what it's worth, I think Illinois can compete with Penn State, honestly, because I just don't trust Penn State, because it's Penn State that until they prove to me they can beat quality teams. And I think Illinois is a quality team right now. No, I'm not. I think Penn State will probably win, but I think Illinois can compete. Yeah, no doubt. Well, that's where I'm pretty much at. But again, you know, I don't think we're going to get blown out. I think 17 and 1/2 is kind of a ridiculous number. I'm just saying my expectation isn't necessarily that we're going to go in there. And all of a sudden, surprise them just like Nebraska. I think that we're going to have a competitive game, unlike what a lot of Nebraska fans, or sorry, Penn State fans and Las Vegas things. Well, I think Luke Altmer, I used to call him the most underrated quarterback in the Big Ten, but he was just named the co-office of player of the week. So he's not underrated anymore. And the secondary for the Penn State defense is not as elite as it has been. They struggled against Bowling Green. I think two receivers got over 100 yards. I think there's something to be had there for Illinois in this game. They're not going to go in there and get their doors blown off. I don't think. You know, and they discovered their running game a little bit last week against Nebraska, too. I was doing an episode where we talked about the PF grades for Luke Altmer. And basically, every time he has a clean pocket, he's nailing the wide receiver right on target, nine out of 10 throws, which is second in the entire country. Give him time, give him a clean pocket. He'll make the right throw. And he's got two wide receivers that are going to be playing on Sundays next week. So again, you know, the talent level is there. They were kind of, we were under the radar a lot. Illinois, we weren't very like a sexy team as they like to say, but they're performing. 4-0 is 4-0. Zach, how are the Huskies feeling about traveling all the way across the country, going to Piscataway and taking on a Rutgers team that's better than people think? Zach, do you want to take that? That's, that's fine to me. If you want to. Oh, I'm sorry. I've got to talk to UCLA man. Actually, that's my bet. Yeah, Roman, I answered the question. No, I'll tell you something, Roman. Happy to see that. That's why I wore my Friday night like shirt this week. Very excited about that, that matchup. This isn't the first time Washington has actually had to make this trip. It's been a very long time. It was about four head coaches to go at this point because that was Chris Peterson in 2017. But actually, we talked to Jonah Coleman today. And one of the things that he said was I play my best games on the road. You go back and you look at it. And yeah, you know, it really nice game at USC last year, dominated Colorado on the ground. I mean, not that that's hard to do, but you know, different thing there. I scored three touchdowns at Washington State last year as well. So that's something where Rutgers is giving up 161 yards per game on the ground. So if Washington is going to win this game, it's going to be in the trenches. I have reservations. This is a really well coached unit. I love what Greg Shiano is doing. Kyle Managay is so much fun to watch. But I really think this is going to be a hard fought battle. I know our friends at Fandil have Rutgers minus two and a half right now. So, you know, neutral field, that's basically a push. And I'm really curious to see how this game plays out. Our poor friend Zack has us spoken since Craig blasted him in the open saying UCLA played a good first half. I mean, nobody, I mean, we all just left that slot. He was just like, yeah, a good first half. And then he moved on. The Huskies though, you know, good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's all right, Zack. That's it. That's a great point. Real quick. One more thing on the Huskies. This game is going to be over in about two and a half hours because both teams just run the ball. The two great running backs going at it. You mentioned Kalmanungai for Rutgers. So I think it's going to be a lot of rushing yards in this one. Don't you think? Yeah. And you know what? That's fine by me as, you know, I'm not going to be able to travel for that game, which I'm not personally complaining about. But yeah, you know, quick and easy, because you get on here to a reaction show all that sort of stuff. I'm not complaining about a fast game time this week. Yeah. All right. Now, Zack, UCLA, let's talk about yes after the Indiana beat down. You guys got to the film room and fix some things. At least that game was tied at the half at LSU's your thoughts on what happened in the second half before we look ahead to what's coming up here against Oregon. I'll just throw this one to Jacob. Indiana Bear than LSU. I mean, if you look at the tape, how about that? What about that? Maybe if you go by scar comparison, but looking what they did to LSU. I think UCLA came out with a better game plan. LSU is a little bit overrated, but the Bruins, most importantly, just didn't drop the first ball of the game. They didn't just drop the first play. And even though they gave up a touchdown for the third straight game on the opening drive, they responded well, did good things. I thought Brian Kelly had a terrible fourth and seven call to go for it at midfield to give UCLA a chance early. But then LSU is just, they're so strong in the trenches, that's UCLA's weakness. And after being beaten down physically by Indiana and worn down on a hot human day in Louisiana, let me tell you I was there. It was very hot. It was doable, at least for me, but it was a hot human day. The Bruins just don't have the strength on the offensive and defensive line to hang with more physical teams and win those games just yet. All right. And yeah, I heard people were dropping like flies out there. All right. Now the game of the century, now I'm just kidding, but Jacob, well, you know, we love our Hoosiers. Going against Maryland this weekend. What are your thoughts on this one? Going to the game. 40. Yeah. 4 and 0. And after, you know, an impressive performance against Charlotte, Kurt Signetty was not overly impressed that he wasn't impressed by the defensive line play, says that can improve. Curtis Roarch doing his thing. The offense is chugging right along another 50 point performance, but he is cautiously nervous. I think for, for this Maryland game, I would check and fan throughout the week, a seven point favorite right around in there for Indiana, which seems weird, but we are at home at Memorial Stadium. So I feel good about it, but I do think we should be, you know, a little cautious. And I think Signetty will have the boys ready to go. All right. We're just warming up here on the squad. I want to do a deeper dive on the Illinois Penn State game with the rest of the guys. I know we heard Sonny's take on it as well. USC after the loss to Michigan is hosting Wisconsin, a couple of other interesting games. And as we alluded to, of course, UCLA and Oregon, a former Pac 12 matchup now, a big 10 matchup, all that coming up as the squad continues. Hey NFL fans, you could start the season with a big return on fan dual America's number one sports book. That's all at fan dual.com fan dual.com America's favorite sports book Thursday night action Cowboys. Cowboys and giants. I actually like the giants plus four and a half. It sounds insane. Baseball Tigers take them over the race and the twins over the Marlins. I like the underscore on the Padres and Dodgers for Thursday night. It is all on fan dual go to fan dual dot com. Did I hear you're shopping for a car because I've been at it for ages. Such a time suck. Right? Not really. I bought it on Carvana. Super convenient. Oh, then comes all the financing research. Am I right? Well, you can, but I got pre-qualified for a Carvana auto loan in like two minutes. Yeah, but then all the number crunching in terms, right? Nope. I saw real numbers as I shopped found my dream car and got it in a couple of days. Wait, like you already have it? Yep. Go to Carvana dot com to finance your car the convenient way. All right, let's continue with the lockdown big 10 squad looking into week five couple of matchups here. I want to get all of your thoughts on Southern Cal coming off that loss to Michigan. I've done some podcasts on a lockdown big 10. I think Lincoln Riley blew it with the plate calling in the first half. I don't know why he was trying to run up the middle on Michigan. That's the one thing you don't do. That's the one strike Michigan still has. He wasted an entire half. That game shouldn't have been as close. Now they lick their chops. They're going to come back home here and lick their wounds rather and come back home and take out a Wisconsin team that was beaten badly by Alabama. They got a quarterback change because Tyler Van Dyke has hurt. Do the Badgers have any chance against the USC team that may not be as good as people thought. I don't know. We'll start at the top. Sunny, what do you think about this matchup? I think USC is going to get ready to go. I think they feel cheated. I know their fan base does. I think they feel like they were slighted with some of the officiating that went on and I think they're going to put on an onslaught if they can. They're not going to put the foot to the throat and go for it. Zach, how about you? Is USC as good as we thought or did Michigan expose them? Is Wisconsin have any chance in this one? I mean, I think I was part of this panel that we all picked USC. We thought there's no chance Michigan could have won that game. They go down 89 yards practically run the ball down their throats the whole game and win it. After seeing that, you know, I don't think USC will lose at home to Wisconsin, but Wisconsin finds running game. Just dive up the middle. Sweep left. Do something. I do think USC will win this one, but you know, it was fun to see Michigan beat USC. Let me just say that. Jay probably doesn't agree with you on that last assessment, but go ahead, Jay. What did you think about USC moving forward as they take out Wisconsin Craig? You know me very well, seeing that team win and beat USC. It didn't sit well with me and I think USC, I'm going to get in the home field advantage. I want to go with USC at this one because they're at home. I think if they were in camp, Randall, it'd be another one of those moments where you're going to the Midwest, a team that and it's a tough place to play. Just like the big house is I just don't know about the tackling because it's definitely seemed like if you look at that last drive or just throughout the game, USC's tackling was bad and so I think USC will win, but I still don't think some of their issues defensively will still show themselves up and really they kind of get exposed and kind of embarrass themselves still like you want to show some bad spots and still win was conscious. Not what I thought was possible was going to be this year. So that's kind of another reason why I'm going with the Trojans on in this game. Jacob, what do you think about this match up out West? Look, USC offensively is still a really good team. I'm with Jay. I think defensively they have a lot of holes and exposures, but do we really believe Wisconsin's the team to show all of that? I don't. I just don't think they have that. You know what I'm saying? So like I just I don't think they have the the threats on the outside a quarterback anything on that side of the football. Other teams do but not Wisconsin. I got USC big covering up 15 16 points spread right now with Fandall. Yeah. Give me USC to cover. All right. What's your thought on this? My back, Craig. No, go ahead. No, I would Jacob there too. But if Wisconsin had those weapons, we would have seen it against Alabama, like that would have been one of those things where that would have showed up and would have been very, very evident who those who those guys are, who they go to weapons were. We didn't see that. So that's another reason I didn't really say like point spread, but I could say USC when and by at least 10 points at least because Wisconsin doesn't really have those weapons at all to make this road trip successful. Yeah. I think I echo everything you guys said where with both that where we would have seen those weapons earlier on. I think the Tyler Van Dyke loss certainly is going to be very prominent in this and at the same time, I think that USC kind of got exposed a little bit where Craig, as you said, the play calling was not great. And even with the skills that just the skill players that USC does have, it wasn't nearly what we thought it was from that first month. And while they're going to win this game, I certainly came away from this feeling worse than I did about USC than really any other takeaway outside of. I feel a little better about Washington's chances against Michigan now. We're just Alex Orgy that whole quarterback situation there has done nothing to impress me either. Let's go round, Robin backers, Roman, go ahead because I know we talked a lot with Sonny at the beginning about this Illinois Penn State matchup. But do you have any thoughts on this game on Saturday night under the lights? I guess it's going to be a white out 2.0. They're going to do all that fanfare that they like to do up there. But, you know, that's always fun. I'm trying to get out there for the white out in November. So that'd be fantastic as well. But my biggest thing with this game is it all comes down to Jurraller where I feel that's going to be what Penn State's entire season is going to just be at the very end where yeah, there are questions that they need to answer defensively. I think they'll get those figured out. But if Jurraller can really achieve his full potential, I feel like that's a lot I've been saying about this team all year, then they're going to be really solid. They're going to be one of the better teams in this conference. But if he continues to be erratic and inaccurate and just kind of Josh Allen, Wyoming, Messi, I don't know, I've got them in this game, but I think it's going to be a close one. Jacob, give me a prediction on that Illinois Penn State game. It's no offense to Sonny. I just think this is going to be a really gross top 25 game, like very, very slow, very low scoring. Just, I mean, who gets the football last and decides they want to score? That's where I have it. 47, 48 is the total depending on where you look. It could go under legitimately. It could go under 47 points. I'm going to take Penn State to win because I guess because they're the favorite. I don't like to be in favor by as much as they are. I think that's kind of disrespectful, but I'll take Penn State to win in a disgusting game. Jay, who's winning the ratings on this one? NBC Big 10 Saturday night's going against Alabama and Georgia. It's NBC's not getting this one right now because Ohio State was out playing at this time. I would be locked in on ABC myself. Penn State though is going to win this game. The whiteout is one of those one of those environments. I think every sports fan, not just color football, but every sports fan, these two enjoy needs to go out there. Drew Aller's impressed me at times this year in a way that I didn't expect him to do at all. I really, after last year, I was off the Drew Aller train. I was like, hey, he's not the guy. He has shown that he has taken strides in the right direction to improve. And I think he's going to do some good things this weekend. So I do have Penn State in this one. I do think it'll be a little scoring as well. I don't think they'll blow Illinois out at all. I think Brett Bielama adding some bullet-to-bore material is going to fuel Penn State, but also fuel Illinois as well, which is going to keep the game close. Yeah. Zach, what are your thoughts on the game? I've seen a couple of things in social media. One, the battle between which team's quarterback is better. I know Drew Aller has the hype, but is it actually true? Will he live up to the promise? I think that's a funny debate we could all have and talk about that for a while. And the other quote I've seen, whiteout energy. We're talking whiteout. Not the official whiteout, whiteout energy. I think that's going to spell doom for Illinois, which is an underrated good team that we gave no shot to mostly last week against Nebraska for no reason. But they have come out and they've gotten some big wins this year. I can't choose Illinois this week because if it's whiteout energy, I'm not picking against the nitty lines unless they're playing Ohio State. That's probably smart. Wow. You know what, Zach? I'll tell you what, since Spencer didn't bawler to show today, I'll give it. Take your shot. The floor is yours. What do you have to say about Spencer and his ducks this week? Well if their offensive line plays as poorly as they did in the beginning part of the season, UCLA might get their first sack since week one here in a week four or week five. If that is not the case, then Oregon might run all over them. But if they come out, they show a little blitz, maybe we'll have some big 10 after dark and have some fun. All right. That sounds great. All right. We will continue. Gotta do some cleaning up here, some other games that may grab your interest, maybe some upsets in the big 10 this weekend. That's all coming up next as the lockdown big 10 squad continues. Let me tell you about price picks. This is fun. All right. How were you so strong in letting go of your car? Well, I already made up my mind and Karvana is so easy. Oh, yeah. True. And sold. Go to Karvana.com to sell your car the convenient way. All right, as we continue with lockdown Big Ten, the squad here again, this last segment seems to boil down to basketball powerhouses, Illinois, UCLA and Indiana. I'm dying for a final four and practice starts pretty soon. We'll get to that soon enough. Guys, we've talked a lot of games here so far today. I was just wondering if there was another game on the schedule that kind of jumps out at you and we talked about a lot of interesting ones. But Jacob, let's talk about the Hoosiers for a minute because you mentioned the cautious optimism or maybe not so cautious. Maryland's a good team, they got that wide receiver, Felton, who catches like 20 balls of game. I mean, I used to have to shut him down, but boy, this is a big statement game coming up this weekend. Yeah, it's huge. I mean, it's a chance to go 5-0 before you go on the road to Northwestern, which I don't think a whole lot of us are too worried about them. Indiana still has to play well in that game. We'll get to that as we go. But in this game, I think Indiana's proven if we show up and play clean, powerful football, we can win against Maryland. We can beat Northwestern. We can beat the teams on our schedule, you know, outside of some, some realistic, you know, I guess some realistic expectations of Ohio State and things like that. That's on the road at Columbus. But you started looking at the schedule and it's not that bad and it really is like it was last week or I guess it gets UCLA. Same thing this week and pretty much same thing every week. It's about Indiana. I don't really care that it's Maryland. I don't care that Maryland can score if they want to. I'm just thinking if Indiana plays clean, does what they do, can score 40 or 50 points, they've proven that. And the defense is playing nasty right now, Craig. It's about Indiana. We've got another big home opportunity. It's an early kick, 11 Eastern, noon central on the Big Ten network. Nobody will pay attention to it, but that's okay. We will and I have Indiana winning and we can cover a seven point spread. Will it happen? We'll have to find out. We absolutely can. You know, there's another interesting game on the board, Minnesota at Michigan. Look, we all, I think Michigan's a lot better than Minnesota, but they both kind of do the same thing. They don't like to run the ball. They both like to play some defense. I don't know if Michigan takes a little breath and maybe a little bit of a letdown. I'm not suggesting I'd like, I think Michigan's winning this game, Sonny, but two similar styles in a way. Is there any way that this game is close with maybe a letdown factor for Michigan? I don't think so. All I know is Minnesota is going to throw everything that they have against Michigan because their season is kind of wavering at this point. The fan base I've already started hearing the mention of buyouts and what flex buyout is. And so it's like it's going to basically game plan the heck out of this game going all out because they need it. Otherwise, Minnesota, at this point, you take a look at the rest of their schedule. You know, they could finish in the bottom three or four in the conference and we may not see PJ in the maroon and gold mix. Wow. No more rowing the boat. I can't imagine. All right. Zach, I'll give you the final word whether you want to talk about Michigan or Minnesota or maybe another game jumping out at you, but go ahead. One I'll say Jacob, you sound like Kurt Signetty with all those quotes. It's about Indiana. That's Kurt Signetty. Junior. It's true. It's true. He's he is rubbing off on me. There's no doubt about it. So as long as nobody steals them, we're fine. Yeah. I am interested in Indiana because the better they look, the less work the I don't feel as bad about UCLA getting blown out. So the better they look, I don't feel as bad. Michigan, Minnesota. Well, let's think about Minnesota. I believe they lost to North Carolina right opening night and then North Carolina just gave up 70 to James Madison. Okay. I wonder about that Minnesota offense then that's that's not exactly the same thing. But I do think that Michigan, Minnesota game could be close because Michigan hasn't proven to go just throw the ball down the field. So if you can't prove that any game could be a letdown and a very close game, I still am very confident. Michigan to win. I don't think if you see me in person, I'm very confident Michigan will win. I was very confident they lose last week. So take my word with a grain of salt whenever it is. But I do think they'll beat Minnesota a team who couldn't beat North Carolina that just lost 70 to 50 to James Madison. That's a lot of translations there, but I just think it's not looking likely. You know, to extrapolate that further, Jacob, I mean, James Madison is Indiana. So don't predict that he left the cupboard full if he took 13 players and all your coaches from James Madison and they still had enough firepower to beat North Carolina by 70. This segmenting guys also, I didn't think it was possible to leave anybody else behind in James Madison. But apparently they did. I mean, 70 points, 50, what three in the first half is that what it was? I mean, he obviously left somebody over there because yeah, that was. That was embarrassing for North Carolina, but it's no secret that Signeti brought a lot of people with him, coaches, players, whoever wanted to come over to Bloomington, but seems to be working. He's he's a winner. He's won everywhere he's been. And that's the mentality they have this week as well. Zach, any chance that UCLA pulls it off against Oregon though? I mean, come on, come on, UCLA will maybe cover, maybe cover, love it. On that note, nice job, guys. Thank you very much.
