welcome into time out Thursday night football here on the fired up network Gerald Bentley Alex Campbell joining you you can check us out if you have sports time TV or you can download that true TV plus app you can get anywhere you get your TV apps and Alex Thursday night football it's usually divisional games and this divisional game has a lot more impact than we would have thought coming into the beginning of the season Dallas despite being the game of the week the big game on Fox Sports NFL coverage the first three weeks the only game actually until this week that Tom Brady will have done a broadcast for as the number one broadcaster they're one and two and in a death spiral you got Dak Prescott who should be about that happy as guy in the world right he's got his sleep number bad he's got his 60 million a year guaranteed and he's got a star wide receiver and CD lamb but instead they're screaming at each other screaming at the fans one in two an embarrassing fashion losing the two games after son in his big contract and yeah there's a lot of talk that I'm hearing that Dallas picked the wrong guy to keep on the coaching staff what do you think captains here in Metlai stadium in the big Apple New York Giants taking on the Dallas Cowboys this is a game the Giants can actually win which is stunning to say yeah there's a lot of like up is down this week I think if you look across the board but I mean starting with this game look yeah this is a game that I think the Giants can win like you said Dallas is absolutely spiraling they're just not playing complimentary football I think I've hammered that run game a little too much already but that's the reality of it they can't run at all they can't move the ball they're so CD lamb dependent that whole offense is stairs CD down you can just rename it that basically and that's that's what every NFL defense is trying to do is make you one-dimensional they come they come out that way and and that's just not any time that defense can eat you in that spot you typically are down and the other thing is that is that the Cowboys and Dak have never been a come from behind team in the first place so the defense needs to play a better you know better better football as well as a unit I mean they just they're not establishing the pass rush they did before they're not covering in the back and as well as they did before the line and there's tackling issues you know it's the defense is also struggling as well as the offense and and really that's all indicative goes right back to that run game because as you know that can keep you on rhythm keep your defense off the field keep the legs fresh on the defensive side and and so when you can't do that and you and you can't move the ball that really just exacerbates with the issues RDR you see Mike a Parsons basically moving all over the field so against the Giants here look the Giants have done a pretty good job rebuilding that offensive line I mean the offensive line is actually performed pretty well this year they've got a legitimate number one receiver right now in neighbors I think they finally found one Daniel Jones has a guy that I mean he can stare down now I mean they have to be you know looking at themselves is maybe needing a change in their front office when you're watching Saquon Barkley tear it up right now for the Eagles but outside of that massive blunder and letting him walk I think this is a game that the Giants actually could win because because of where the Cowboys are McCarthy also not a strong leader when when the chips are down we saw that in Green Bay so so Dak is a good front runner McCarthy's a good front runner but now they're both behind and I don't see it going anywhere well and I don't think Mike Zimmer is exactly a motivator of men either which Dan Quinn to his defense is and yeah you know you've got a question here Saquon Barkley his presence looms large in the NFC east because Jerry Jones has made more news for saying yeah we couldn't afford him of course you could have you sure you could have yeah I mean the only teams that are running into trouble with the salary cap and the NFL now are the teams that are incompetently managed they can take those contracts defer them out till doomsday you can restructure and you can turn it into a workout bonus you can kick the money down the road they absolutely could have had him and if they have him they're probably the overwhelming favorites to win the division because City Lamb is a really good receiver Dak Prescott's a not the best quarterback in liquid he's a good quarterback Brandon Cook's is a server to receive you know Brandon Cook's fine they're going out there with Rico Daudel as their top running back I mean how do you do that yeah and it's it's reprehensible especially when you knew it was coming all offseason and did nothing to stop it you know I mean it just is and you know the thing is is that this always happens with really with that Prescott and with Dallas and I think last year the success they had it was actually a mirage in the end and they got hammered by Detroit they got hammered by Green Bay they got hammered by the 49ers every team that they faced that was legit contender in the NFC absolutely obliterated them last year even when they were having the best year that Dax ever had the best coaching play calling year that Mike McCarthy's ever had and the issue the bottom line I think is is that the roster just is not good enough when you look across their skill positions I think I think a lot of people tend to think of the Cowboys is like automatically a really talented team they're really not again they have they have very little talent in the running back room they have one legit number one receiver cooks is okay as a number two Ferguson is a is a is a relatively unknown with upside it tied in not completely but he's a nice player but he's not an elite tight end they don't have a lot of playmakers on the offensive side and Dak himself is not and has never really been a playmaker and again he's not a come from behind Guy and so you coupled out with the fact that they don't have a lot of playmakers in the secondary right now one area that Dallas classically loaded you know we think it got about guys like Terrence Newman for years and Dion Sanders and you know I mean even Pac-Man Jones when they had the baby said I'm like they have there that's one thing like Jerry Jones loves his homegrown talent but the one area that he's been willing to go outside of that homegrown talent and the guys that he actually drafts calling himself the best GM in history when it comes to the drafts is the secondary and you have not seen Jerry Jones go out and get a guy in the secondary in what seems like over a decade now yeah they've they've kind of set pat and said hey we're good enough we just need a couple of pieces but you know you're going against the trend now because here the reality is and we've talked about it for a couple of years now explosive plays are down big offensive days are generally down and you're seeing the teams are sitting in too high deep defenses they're daring you to run the ball because it's now been I mean I think definitively proven that if you're gonna win an NFL game you better get to 350 yards of offense or you're not winning so if you can run the ball for 150 hey good for you we're gonna stop your pass and the Cowboys are going in there with Rico Dodel and two guys who you have to see if you have a fork around to check if they're done with the Ezekiel Elliott and Dalvin Cook I mean they're they're done they're their expiration states passed and I think that's just a reality except for the very few super elite running backs you get to about 30 you're done because there's such hitting so much violence that positions just so physically demanding you're just but it exactly and then we see guys like Alvin Camara having like a resurgence in his career and he's one of those rare guys that can do that you look across the like there's look that doesn't this era is gone there's no 30 carry a game running back out there not really there may be like one or two or three in the entire league even the best one Christian McCaffrey sure as heck isn't a 30 a carry a game guy he's he gets no 15 yeah we're not gonna see him until week nine or ten the Chiefs were committing to 20 carries a game for Isaiah Pacheco okay well he's out about the same time as McCaffrey now with the broken Fibia and it hasn't been publicized a whole lot but Latham had damaged in his ankle so you know maybe week 10 so you know a great guy he's gonna get hurt even like Joe Nixon for the Texans already got hurt and he's a he was a guy that I mean for for the last decade plus you could say he was a 30 a potential 30 carry guy you know and those over the years have gotten more and more rare Derek Henry clearly isn't but I mean just a transition on the Cowboys last game Derek Henry you know I mean and their inability on defense to stop the run for God's sakes and they could not stop the that is a death now when you can't run the baller stop the run it's over bro it is over and and and the score was closer than the game really was I mean they they had a flurry of points in garbage time in the fourth quarter but the Ravens absolutely smoked the Cowboys in the trenches yeah the Ravens played a physical brand of football and Dallas so far has it but so taking a closer look at this game the Giants they come in at one and two their one win is against a Cleveland Browns team that's utterly dysfunctional they replaced say Quan Barkley with former Bills running back Devin single Terry who's okay I mean he's a guy I had Devin single Terry on fantasy teams every year for four years saying okay this is the year he's gonna do I didn't you know never does it but you know he's gonna get 50 60 yards a game he's he's okay can Daniel Jones and Malik neighbors be the answer to this Dallas defense and if the Giants win and go to two and two is this the end of the Mike McCarthy era could we see the first coach to lose his job in the season because man the seats got to be getting awfully hot there was lots of talk that the Cowboys were interested in just elevating Dan Quinn at the end of last year yeah and maybe they should have right and maybe they should have I mean two guys that are very hot right now Dan Quinn Dan Campbell and they're very similar type of leaders and you see you see their teams succeed because they win first in the locker room and that's really important that culture aspect is really important and it creates a strong buy-in and that's one thing that I think New York thought they were getting with Dave all that I think has been a little underwhelming is they did they thought maybe they were getting a good mix of that schematic and kind of the locker room guy and so I think it's been a little underwhelming I put I also think that's because the front-off is committed a max contract basically if we're talking NBA terms to an underwhelming talent they give him like an Allen Houston deal to Daniel Jones it just made no sense and he's been nothing but underwhelming since then can they can they beat Dallas yeah they can beat Dallas because they're an NFL football team and again they've they've they've done the offer they've rebuilt the offensive line pretty well Dallas is reeling right now and again they cannot stop the run or run the ball these aren't fixable issues in my opinion they're just not there there's not they're not a quick they're not a quick roster fix away they're not a coaching change away that they're an off season or two away at this point and and that is a stark I think you know reality for Dallas and Dallas fans to deal with but the writing was really on the wall last year I know you won 12 games but look who you won the 12 games against and who you struggled against especially in the moments when it mattered look at Jerry Jones at the at this offseason when he was asked why he didn't extend McCarthy he had one answer green Bay yeah I'll tell you all you need to know right there but I don't think he's a dead man a lot I don't think he's smart to fire him mid-season not our shot because you're doing it because that's another issue that you're creating that's where you're gonna elevate like Sam right and and the problem with exactly and the problem with that is is that when you do that it they tend to rally around the new guy everybody wants to do good for the assistant teacher he comes in you win three or four games and the fan base wants him and now you're locked in another bad hire for four years so I think I think if I'm the Cowboys and I'm Jerry Jones this is too much of an ask it won't happen but you hire a competent coach in the off season and then you turn the keys over to him and not make the decisions that also won't happen so I really have little hope for the Cowboys going forward that's crazy talk so this game Dallas a six point favorite the over under 45.5 I'm gonna say Dallas pulls out an ugly win they win in advance the Mike McCarthy death watch goes one more week what do you say yeah Dallas does love to beat up on bad teams that's the one thing if you look over especially the McCarthy area era that they do they are an absolute machine against bad teams New York still is definitely a bad team could the Giants win yes but I don't think they do I agree with you it could get ugly I could also just eat Dallas winning by you know 25 points I would run away from this one from a spread standpoint yeah I wouldn't bet on this one it's prime time Thursday night on Amazon so there you go there's your start to the NFL week week for the New York football Giants taken on the Dallas Cowboys in that life stadium for Alex Campbell I'm Gerald Bentley thanks for joining us here on fire it up
