(upbeat music) Captain Jay Hood on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Here's hoping that you're gonna have a great weekend with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. We've got A.I. Jack and we've got Jay Moore and still a com. We'll open up the Friday folder of things that we didn't get to. That comes your way at 9.35 right here on ESPN 1000. So, Cap, the Bears will win Sunday if and we've got a big blank there. And again, this is the last time that Cap and I will be able to talk to you about the Bears. So, jump in. If you have not called this week and you haven't thought about this game, Cap, you've made this an important game for the Bears. And rightfully so, a big game. The. The. Important game so far. I got, I figured they'd beat Tennessee, maybe not in the fashion they did, but they did beat him. I did not have them beating the Houston Texans, even though they had the ball with a chance to win at the end. I did think they would have a tough game in Indy, but I figured they would win that game and they frittered it away. Careful. This game, this team in this building against that wounded opponent, they're injured. You've got to beat them. There's no excuses here. I don't care how you do it. If you get in that car and go home and you're one in three, you know what we're going to be talking about. Coaching change. - That's exactly right. - One in three with Andy Dalton coming into town and then you got to go to London. And then we haven't played a division game yet. All three division opponents are really good. We're talking about what's Paul's going to do for a coach. So you better beat the freakin' Rams. - They're taking on McVay, the coach for the Rams though. Here's a guy that's been in the playoffs five times in the first seven full seasons as Rams coach. He's got so many different machinations offensively. This is just the right coach for Matt Stafford. Stafford's seen it all, but just the idea that there's always different wrinkles with him. I like to see how the defense is going to be able to get away from being gashed and seeing if they could stop the run. That's a big question as well on the other side. - But he's not playing. - You understand the point though? - Yes, but they're so banged up. - Well look, listen, listen. We thought that the Indianapolis Colts were banged up enough for the Bears to win too. Like this whole thing about the old, the other team doesn't have this and they don't have that. It's about what the Bears have to do, Cap. I know that you and I for a living breakdown match ups. That's why we gamble or we analyze and we bring it to the air. But Cap, damn it, at some point it just has to be about what the Bears can do. Nevermind about the opposition. What are the Bears going to do about it? The Bears have to run the football. The Bears have to limit turnovers. They've got to get turnovers. There has to be a team effort. It has to be that way because it just can't just be one side of the football that's dominating to help the Bears win. Because of how the Bears are right now, rickety, shaky offensively at times, but a defense that can get turnovers, that can get to the quarterback, it just can't be one side, Cap. It has to be a team effort on three phases for the Bears to win. I know that that sounds simple, but for the Bears, because of how they perform the first three games offensively, all hands on deck to win this game. You have to have it. I would love to tell you, Cap, you know, don't worry about it, it's the Rams. They're banked up and, you know, we'll score 40 points and well, what's the Bears? This whole thing with Waldron. I mean, Mercedes-Louis, I don't know if he knows this or not, he's opened up a can. You know that, right? Just one hit, I mean, he's speaking a matter of fact. That's why I like old guys in the locker room like that, Cap. 'Cause a 26-year-old wouldn't have said what Mercedes-Louis said. He would not. 'Cause usually, you know, especially in basketball, the oldest guy is barely 30. You haven't seen everything. Louis has seen everything. But he's opened up, I think, a big talking point about this coaching staff. As much as you'd love to say, it's the players, and yeah, it's the scheme. I mean, he's saying the coaching staff turns to Waldron. Hey, man, you got to coach us. Totally, totally agree. Fair enough. What did Courtney just say in our last half hour? The shakiness of Shane Waldron, a little bit jittery. Everyone has a different personality, I get that. Right. But Cap, if your hand is shaking with the play sheet, we think the players see. Yeah, now, again, are we over? No. Doing it with that? You don't-- your hand doesn't shake when you coach. Absolutely not. It does not. What do you mean we're overdoing it? No. He has to be right about these calls. It matters. This is the NFL, man. It matters. Look at all this talent on this football team. Come on, man, you can't squander it. Can't do it. Yeah, I know. People call in and go, oh, the offensive line stinks. There's enough up there. This team, with Khalil Herbert as the lead back last year, he was averaging five yards a carry behind basically the same offensive line. Basically, the same offensive line. Correct. Except for Coleman Shelton in for Lucas Patrick. And Lucas Patrick went back to being Lucas Patrick after everyone called in here and said, oh, my God. Lucas Patrick's the highest rated guard through two weeks. I think he graded in the '50s last week or '60. Yeah. So they should be better. Is that a Waldron thing? I don't know. Coach him hard. Let's go. And let's see results. Damn right. Tom Theron is on with us every Thursday on the cap and Jhood Morning Show. He gave his thoughts about the Bears against the Rams. You know, the first three quarterbacks they play are all second year guys, even though CJ Stroud is rookie of the year. Now you're playing a guy in Matthew Stafford that he's going to be in control of the defense. He's going to know exactly what he sees breaking the huddle. He's going to know what he said in the huddle. He's going to know how everything fits together. So now rather than us just watching a determined rush, we're going to have to pay attention to coverages, both from the linebacker and the defensive back, because Matthew Stafford is going to know exactly every single time where he wants to go at the ball as much as you know what defense you're playing. It's a factor cap. I know our central focus is on Caleb Williams and the offensive offensive line. They were just laid out for you what the Bears have to expect defensively against the gift Matt Stafford. Yeah. And that is a guy, I know they made fun of him in Detroit. They called him Stat Padford, because they thought he put up numbers, but he was not a winning player. And then he went to an organization that had level of expectation. They had really good players. They won the Super Bowl. That's when the Lions are a bunch of losers who didn't know what they had in Stafford. Correct, that's all it is. That's correct. Now they have a really good program and they got that thing rolling. But this is a game where you're dealing with a veteran who's wily tough, you got to get pressure on him, you got to harass him into a turnover or two, and you got to find a way to win this football game. Somehow, someway, run the dang ball. Tom Waddle, how about Tommy? We talk to him every Wednesday. Yep, Waddle Wednesday, one of my highlights of my week. Tommy, talking about the Bears and Rams matchup. Yeah, I would look first at their defense. They're dead last stopping the run at 177 yards. I think being at home and being able to kind of handle the crowd noise will be easier for it. Something Tom Thayer has pointed out quite a bit. And you know, obviously played in the league for a decade and a half. So he knows, especially as an offensive lineman, being at home, I think, and not having to go on a silent count so much will help a young quarterback and that offense against a defense that really has struggled to stop the run. But on the other side, you know, as much as I've said that the defense kept them in that game Sunday in Indianapolis, I would argue that Anthony Richardson kept them in the game more than anybody kept them in the game. He was just bad. And if you allow some guys to get behind you on third and long the way that they did, and you allow some of the, you know, some of the other issues at times, and again, I'm not, you know, dog kick in the defense 'cause they have been really good this year. But Matthew Stafford can make every throw. And you better get to him because he's not, as we've seen, whether he's with the Lions or now advanced in his career with the Rams, he's not 100% always wanting to stand back there and take a ton of hits. You know, ball will come out quick. He'll take some sacks. So I would think pressure on Stafford is important. I would come after him. I'd blitz him because your back end should be able to hold up against a receiving court that's still pretty good, but doesn't have Nakua or Cooper Cup. So pressure staff, or don't let him sit back there and be comfortable and try to get him to throw when you want him to throw, not when he wants to throw. - As always, we get great analysis here on Captain Jay Hood, but-- - He and Thayer, so good. - But you hear those two guys, we have analysis on the defense 'cause again, there's so much thought about the offense and Caleb Williams, what he is, what he's not in the offensive line, the same thing, Cap, but you heard from Waddle and Thayer. There's concern from both guys about Matthew Stafford and rightfully so. The guy has been a fantastic quarterback for a long time. This will be a test, I think, for the first time for this secondary and for the defensive line. Can you rush a veteran like Stafford? Can you make him throw into mistakes? - I mean, it's one thing for the office to do what they had to do, but defensively, that's a concern, too, the whole operation. - Let me just tell you something right now. This is a game where you have to win. You're in your building, you've got more talent on the field than you've had in years here. This is a winnable football game. I don't wanna hear, well, we had to go up against a veteran quarterback, and I don't wanna hear it. No Cooper Cup, no Puke Nakua, and you're telling me that you didn't beat the Los Angeles Rams? Unacceptable, and I have zero interest in doing shows the rest of the year if you lose this in the next game after that. If you lose this one into Andy Dalton, I have zero interest in coming in every day going, well, who should the next coach be? Do we get an offensive guy? Do we hire an existing head coach? Do we get steel one? Are we gonna spend the money to get a, I have zero interest in doing that. I wanna talk about winning freaking football. It's enough. It is enough to wake up every week and have my son and I sit there watching games and get no winning football enough. Go out there and beat someone's ass. And if you got a coach, guys harder, coach 'em harder. Quit worrying about rufflin' feathers. - Yeah, especially if you're Ibra Flus. You got none to lose. - You got, you're gonna go down. - Yeah. - Don't win this year. If you finish six and 11 or seven, you're getting fired. - Yep. - Let's, I mean, what are we doing here? I wanna ask him that money. Now, obviously if they lose Sunday, it's probably not the time, but I do want you to remind me. I do wanna ask him about Mercedes Lewis comments that they need to be coached harder and Shane Waldron basically falling on a sword. I want answers to that. I think we deserve those answers. We treat the dude with respect. I want something in return. I wanted to answer a direct question. The oldest guy in your locker room who's beloved in there, he's a captain. His teammates voted him a captain for crying out loud. Said you got a coach us harder. This isn't pop-warner. How do you respond? - Love the brother next to you. - Oh my God. - That's the answer. - Wow. - And then we have to run with that. - That's it. - And if he says we have to execute better, I'm gonna jump through the microphone and punch him. - Let's go, Mike. - Come on. He's a good guy, but come on, man. You wanna keep this gig? You wanna live in that beautiful house? You wanna make that money? Start kicking ass and hold people freaking accountable. And if Nate Davis does not wanna play, then put him inactive. I don't care if they put freaking AI Jack out there. Put someone out there that wants to play. This city's a good football city. People wake up every Sunday. They go to the deli. They get bagels. They get doughnuts. They get coffee cake. They cook omelets. They sit down. And you know what they do? They get their freaking heart ripped out. Again. - We don't wanna offend anybody. BS. - Colibe. - It's it. - Love the brother next to you. - Had enough. - Let's go, mate. - Sit. - I understand. Get tired of it. 'Cause we've been doing it for years. This whole thing, this vicious cycle of suck. You've done this for a long time, Cap. - Correct. And if you get asked a question, hey, man, DeAndre Swift basically ran into the back of his own man. He didn't bounce it to the right. I would like one of the coaches, the running back coach, the head coach, the offensive, somebody go, it's unacceptable what we're seeing here. And I'll get to the bottom of it. And if it doesn't work, it's gonna cost me my job. And if I'm going down, I'm gonna make sure those guys are held accountable. - Dragon Slayer. - That's it. - Your phone call is coming up. 31233776, our phone on the Bears will win on Sunday. If. - They let me give them motivational pregame talk. - Take that. - On Cap and Jay Hood. - It's for Friday. Time to get it in for the weekends. Now back to Cap and Jay Hood. ESPN Chicago. - Deep breath by the veteran. Here's a 1-0 to Vaughn. And he hits a line drive into left. It's down for a base hit. Fletcher will score. Here comes Vargas. He will score and it's 2-0. Swing and a line drive right field corner. It's down for a hit. Robert is in. Sosa the second, Vaughn's gonna try to score and he will, the throw coming back in. This both cut off men. And Sosa ends up at third. It's 4-0. Everybody in on the infield, the pitch. And he spots one through the hole into left. That's an RBI single. Sosa's in. 5-0. He goes this time. 3-2 is whacked down a line out into left center. That's gonna split the alleyway. Ramos around third. And the throw to home is late. That's 6-0. - We'll never lose again. The White Sox sweep out Ron Walsh and the Los Angeles Angels. Right there. - Or are they horrible? - Yes, they are. Ron Walsh limping away from Chicago. There it is, Cap. Sox sweep the Angels. Again, just one game away from eclipsing the record. A futility in the modern Major League Baseball. Looking for a lost number 121 in the Sox. And no, it's not gonna happen. They win 3-2-4-3-7-0. Enjoyed being out there with you and our staff at here at ESPN Chicago. It was great to be able to be there for the finale. Cap, as I walked through the parking lot, as I've done many, many times as the White Sox fan, you saw people tailgating, talking, but there was a morass over the parking lot. It wasn't a lot of laughs. - All right, we're here. - 'Cause it means summer's over. - Last game. - And the team is terrible. - But you knew that going in, but when you walk out of there, I was talking to somebody as I was walking out and he said, "Wow, last game of the season, home." That's sad. - Next thing I know is gonna be snow everywhere. - Yes. - That sucks. - It was, there were people having fun in the parking lot as I was walking through, talking to some people, but just that feeling about, okay. But again, what's so funny about it, Cap, is that fans were just ready. I'm sure they had signs ready to go just to give it to Jerry one more time. And the Sox kept pouring it on the Angels. And so that hate, that strong sports hate, or that dismay about this season turned into cheers. Because ultimately, Cap, I know it's difficult for some sports fans, but I do it all the time. You root for the players, even though you might have a problem with the organization. The players, yeah, they're sometimes executed, sometimes they don't. But this group of guys, these cast-offs, these Meyer League talents, these people we never heard of before, ain't their fault. They just don't have enough talent. No, they just don't have enough. I was taught, it was funny, we were in the Skybox, it was great to be with our staff, and thank you Keith, and Danny, and Craig, putting that whole thing together, Maggie. We had a great time. I was there. You didn't put it together. You were just partaking like me. Are you sure? Yes, okay. And I went out in the hallway there, and I was talking to one of the workers. And he's a Sox fan, and we started talking sports, and he works there. And he said, you see that Skybox right there? I said, yeah, he goes, that's where they had their meeting with Manny Machado. I'm like, they did. The empty one? Yeah, oh. He said, right in that big Skybox there, he said, they had food. He said I was working that day. Manny Machado and his people were right there. They couldn't close the deal. I know that those games, again, good for the home folks, Cap. Great for the home folks. The Sox fan that went to the games, and they were able to enjoy the White Sox for the last three games. But when you know it's magical when Chris Flexin wins a game. Yeah, and he got a nice ovation when he came off the mound. Pitch really, really well. They came up with big hits and big spots. They scored seven, I think in the fifth. That was the ball game there. That's it. No one was rooting harder than me. You know that, right? Because I didn't want to see it. I know it's going to happen. I don't want to see it on my watch. For the Cup fan and the people that just want to see a car wreck. Yeah, I can't hear it or see a loss. I'm still a White Sox fan, Cap. I know it's going to happen. I just don't want to see it in person. It just makes me more angry. Like, I know it's going to happen in Detroit. They're going to lose a game. It'd be funny if they never lost again. Oh, God. But I think it's going to happen. But as a Sox fan, you can't ask a Sox fan, hey, you come here to see them lose? No, they've lost over 100 games already. I don't want to see them lose again in person. No, I do not. So I got what I wanted. I was happy as a White Sox fan just for a day to see them win. And they got the job done. You've got Flexin. You've got Gus Farr, Gus, what is it? Gus? Varland. Varland. He got Ally Afraidy afterwards, closing it out. And so a great job by Irriti. Yeah. Ally was the key to the Dylan Seastrate. Ally Afraidy closed it out. And so it was great. And it was great for the White Sox to be able to find a way to win that ball game. It was super cool. It was super cool. Really enjoyed hanging with everybody in the Skybox, our team. It was fun, man. I went down and sat. I told you in the bottom of the eighth, I went and sat in the seats, the scout seats. Didn't partake in anything. Just sat there and soaked in the vibe. And it was cool. People were standing with two outs. I thought it was fun, man. I had a good time. It's because you know that it's here. Like, you won't be able to go to the ballpark again this year. Correct. I went until March. Correct. And it's a long-- it's a long winter. And actually, a colder winter than most, because the Sox aren't doing anything this off season. So if you think this winter's going to be cold, it's going to be even colder when you go back next year. Same kind of cast-offs, same type of philosophy, and just turn the lights on, and guarantee rate. But again, J-more, the food is great, milkshake. Is that all that stuff? And we met a friend yesterday. Yeah, that was pretty cool. Barstool Eddie. Met him yesterday. How about that? I tweeted a picture that Danny must have taken. Yeah. And I retweeted it, and I said, there was hood and moor signed, Kaplan. Yeah, and Miller. Miller? Yep. Barstool Eddie. That's it. Good to meet him. As good a guy as you'll ever find. Yes. Good man. Yes. And he called me by my last name any time he wants. Had no problem with them at all. We talked to you about the Bears here on Cap and J-hood. Thank you. We turn to the phone lines now in Van Wert, Ohio. AP1 on the show is Jason joins us on the ESPN Chicago app. Hey, Jason. Hey, guys, Cap, man. You got me all fired up last segment. That was amazing. Thank you. I can't wait for this weekend. Our Ohio State Buckeyes, Chick-Shay, Nolan, Sparty's Butt, and then on Sunday, we're coming after the Rams. I think as long as Waldron's not cute, defense forces a couple turnovers. I think we should be able to win that game. So have a great weekend. Completely green. Go Buckeyes. I hope you beat Michigan State by a billion. Thank you, Jason. Thank you. Had no thoughts after that. He did not. And instead, we turn to Stephen Elmhurst, who's always got a great thought here on Captain Jay Hood. Hello, Steve. Here we go. What's up, Steve? Good morning, guys. Cap, I understand your sense of urgency and impatience where the bears are concerned. It's been a rough goal for years here. But here's the thing. If you really do have a franchise quarterback, this season, more than winning right now, is about this guy learning and growing into the franchise quarterback. You want him to be. You've got to win. You have to win. Run the ball and do things, you know, and not develop him. Then you're retarding his development. This season is all about him. And that's why I disagreed with you guys when it came to the draft. Everybody was, oh, we've got to have this guy. Romadoune, if they can get him, it's a oh my god. And I agree. The guy is going to be great. I really, truly believe that. But you needed-- to me, I would have used the second of the first round picks on a left tackle and the next pick on a center. And I know they made some good picks elsewhere. But that's not what you needed. You need to protect this guy. So he doesn't get beat up all year. And then he's ruined, maybe. Are you sure, Steve? Are you sure that if they get an offensive lineman, that his offensive line will be better? Because it's more than just one issue. That's just one issue. You know, and you talk about it. You talk about it. OK, go ahead. Steve, you were saying. Oh, it certainly would help. I don't say that all the problems would have been solved if they just would have drafted a tackle in the center. But it would have helped a lot. And it would have made it possible for him to learn and grow at the rate that he was good. Who's he throwing the ball to? Then Keenan Allen hasn't been on the field in two weeks. Did you know Keenan Allen wasn't going to be on the field? I mean, we didn't know that. We knew that. We knew we know by looking at his history that he misses a lot of games every year. OK, that's fair. And they're probably not going to resign him to an extension unless he comes like on a team-friendly deal. So you'd have DJ Moore and no one else. How many top receivers did Tom Brady have? You know, he's got-- Oh, my God. He's telling. Right now, we don't have a good offensive line. OK, give us a second example of that, Steve. Go ahead. Look at Stafford. A lot of years, he didn't have good receivers. But he still did well. And he won nothing. OK, but we're talking about how quarterbacks performed. He had terrible defenses for years, too. But a lot of guys, if they've got good offensive lines, look at the Detroit lines now. I mean, they got a great offensive line, even though now they got an injury at center. But, you know, that that's why they're so good, because the golfs got all kinds of time. And then he can function. He's only got one really-- Well, no, he's got two, because he's a guy that they drafted the last year. Steve, just as a footnote, number one, when it comes to Matt Stafford, there's the reason why they call him Pat Stafford. Again, he did have Megatron. But he did have, again, he got a lot of great stats, but they didn't have a lot around Stafford. He had Megatron. Calvin Johnson was a tremendous wide receiver. Correct. That's one thing. Secondly, you know, Stafford was able to win a championship with the Rams after all those years with the Lions. But he also had OBJ. Yeah. He had Cooper Cup, who I think was the Super Bowl MVP. They had a great line, too, and they had Aaron Donald. They had really good players, good running game. They had all that. But the Lions-- the Lions have a Mon Ross St. Brown top 10. They have Jameson Williams, so they drafted in the top 12. They added Jameer Gibbs. They added David Montgomery. They added Sam Laporta. Like, they got weapons, man. Steve, if you just take a step back, it was just what Cap just mentioned. So you don't have Roma Dunes A. If you don't have Roma Dunes A, you have Kean Allen, who's always hurt. So now, it looks like it was with Justin. You have DJ Moore, and then who? Tyler Scott, DeAndre Carter, who's not even supposed to have as many targets as he's had. You have a tight end, and Cole Comette. You give us the parallel of the New England Patriots. That's how the Patriots did it. Because from a Bell check standpoint, Tom, you do it. We'll just put a mechanic out there, a lawyer, a sanitation worker, whoever it is, it didn't matter. That's the way they ran it. But that's not commonplace in the NFL, where it's like, hey, we have a quarterback that we like, but he used to throw it to anybody. That's not how it works. You supply the quarterback with talent. That's how most of the teams do in the NFL. But the other thing is, we could have done both. I heard the guys in the afternoon talking about this. They're right. You could have added Roman Dunezay, and still either traded back into the first round, or traded it back into the second round 100%. You could have gone and gotten Tyler Beottish to play center, who's playing for the commanders. He was a free agent. You could have signed Connor Williams, who's now at Seattle. You absolutely still have 21 million in cap space. But to be fair, you weren't going to rebuild everything in one off season. However, I would have liked for him to address something that could be a cornerstone for the offensive line for quite some time. We know Shelton is not that. We know Nate Davis is not that. Correct. I mean, again, you can't address everything. The hope is, is that as we get close to the deadline, something that occurs, because Paul sees what we all see. That the offensive line could be better. He says execution, but he sees it. Because otherwise, then why would he pick up Montes Sweat when you know you weren't going to win? Because he understood, amen, for now and for the future, we're going to need a pass rusher. He didn't have to do that. He did that. He's going to do it like most general managers. We're not going to win this year. See you in the off season. He didn't do that. So he sees it, Cap. Correct. So this year, he's going to have three top 40 picks. His own first round pick, wherever that falls. The Panthers first, a second round pick, and the Bears second round pick. You better use two of those on offensive linemen, at least. They put the hot honey in there. It is an amazing, amazing collab. Go to Lou Baumnati's.com and try out the Malnati's meal deals. It's a Friday, Chris Black, Adam Abdullah. Tell me, that's a pizza night. Here's AI Jack. All right, story that broke earlier this week. You guys hit on it a little bit earlier in the week, but the details as they unravel just seem to get weirder and weirder. UNLV quarterback Matthew Sluka. He's leaving the team entering the transfer portal after he says UNLV did not pay him for his NIL money, which was $100,000. UNLV says that his camp is threatening and saying that he's illegally trying to talk them into giving him this NIL money and basically saying he's going to leave if they don't give him the money. The agent says a written deal was never in place, which I don't know how you don't put a written deal in place for that. This situation has gotten a little bit out of hand Sluka, not playing for the undefeated UNLV, who's just outside the AP Top 25. If, and that's a big if, it was a handshake deal, that's bad on Sluka. That's got to be in writing this NIL for God's sakes. I have to know more about this case. So I did some research. It was a promise. If you transfer here, we'll add 100 grand for transferring. No shot. The school says we gave him his NIL money and he says, no, no, no, no, no, you gave me that. But over there, that coach right there, the OC, said if I transfer here, I get 100 grand for transferring and they've never given it to him. Got to get it in writing. There's got to be in writing, though. Correct. But I don't know if that, for what I was told, to entice someone to leave another school, you can't put that in writing. It's got to be, on the side, there's your extra hungry. Because it's technically not a lot, technically. I mean, it happens, but it's not, not supposed to. To it, the way Cap used to do it, an attache case. Put the money in there. I actually used the paper bag. You're a bum. [LAUGHS] What's what, the attache case? It's classier. I told you the one where-- I don't know what, no, we can't sidebar it now. We've got to keep going. I got a call. Give me the money at the barber shop. I'm Kenzie over at Marshall. Nope. I don't have it. I make 4,200 a year. [MUSIC PLAYING] I wanted five grand hoodies and small bills. I didn't have it. That's a stick-up, actually. But we lost him to Cincinnati. Jack? AP reporting so Brett Favre was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in January. He revealed this at a congressional hearing Tuesday as part of his testimony about a welfare miss spending scandal in Mississippi that he was kind of involved in. And so he revealed the diagnosis at that congressional hearing. Five Parkinson specialists told him they believed head trauma played a role in developing the disease. If that is the case, I feel bad for Brett Favre. It doesn't make him any less than a scumbag. First stealing from people from Mississippi, stealing money from people in Mississippi. The Parkinson's obviously a side is tough. But if it is true that he stole money from people in Mississippi, when the poorest states in this country, poverty are written, then he's a bad guy. Yeah, fair. If that's true, again, he's never been convicted. I don't know all the details. I feel bad for him about the Parkinson's stuff. I would hope that we have evolved in terms of head trauma, how we treat it from when he played to now, the helmets, the guardian caps, all that stuff should all play a role. I hope it's time for him to bring it up, though. Jack, wow. I'm just saying, like, that's a separate press conference. You bring Kristina Witsky in, you know, that kind of thing, and just kind of talk about head trauma. But just kind of bring it up-- oh, by the way, I've got Parkinson's. But this whole thing about the money, though, let me just-- Right. It should have been separate. Brett Favre, he deserves that spotlight to talk about that issue. I would also like to know his use of substances and alcohol, what role that played on his body. I mean, diff buck is played where the helmet was basically nothing. It's a plastic thing on your head. That was it. He lived into his 80s. So all right, what else do we have? Vince McMahon documentary came out this week on Netflix. I have not seen it yet, but have you guys? I have seen the first four episodes, and we will have a podcast about Vince McMahon. It's called "Mr. McMahon." And it talks about the good, the bad, and the very evil and unsavory of Vince McMahon and his life. The first part of that documentary cap is going to be available after our show is done. So people go to ESPN Chicago app, go to Captain J. Hood and our podcast, and we'll have coverage of the first half of that podcast available for you to listen to through the weekend. Vince has told people that he is a huge Jonathan Hood fan. His commitment to the wrestling sport has made Vince a fan of Jonathan. Jonathan knows very much about what goes on in the inner workings I can't wait to hear. The podcast with your informed perspective. I put on the radio one day, I was going to get bagels, busted opens on it. Oh my God, that's my partner on there. Then I turn on the good karma wrestling show, my partner again. Your depth of knowledge is impressive and did not escape the eye of Vince McMahon. Or David Capitol apparently, correct. Jack. Teresa Weatherspoon, coach of the Chicago Sky. We hit on this a little bit earlier. She's out after one season. The team was playing pretty well in the first half, but after the Olympic break, Angel Reese went out with the wrist injury three and 13 after that break, fell out of the playoffs and Weatherspoon, relieved of her group, of her duties. Yeah, I've been trying to get some connection here, maybe because maybe it's early, maybe after the show I'll find out more, Cap. But, you know, one thing about Weatherspoon, there was a type of basketball that the sky were playing, as you recall. Tough minded kind of basketball. Weatherspoon is a Hall of Famer for a reason. She was a really tough player defensively. And she tried to impart that on this team. It did not work. You got Cardoso and Reese in the middle. You would think that nothing can get in there. I just think that their transition defense wasn't very good and it wasn't great around the rim. But the rookies though, the rookies. Like, we could treat Caleb or any other rookie. We, I treat them saying, hey, they have to learn. I don't know if there was a disconnect with other players and Weatherspoon in the locker room, but I thought it was shocking. One year and out. If there is a bigger coach that's coming in there, a bigger name, that would be interesting. But if someone like the sky, I don't see that happening. Yeah, they apparently, Emery Vatten-Severe, he was the interim coach when James Waite stepped down. He's interested in the position. He thought he was getting it the last time, and they went with Teresa with her spoon. I don't, you'll know more of the details 'cause you're wired over there. I don't understand what she had done. If your best player is coming out and supportive her, it's surprising to me. And I would not do that if I was, and there's a statement that's out as well. We'll retweet that at XJhood ESPN. A statement has been made by the sky regarding parting ways with Weatherspone. By the way, they gotta get somebody comes in here that can work with Angel offensively 'cause as a rebounder, she's Dennis Rodman-like. I said this to you guys in the skybox yesterday. She's shooting in the 30% range, 30 some percent range. She's got too much talent. She's a better player than that. So she's gotta become more of an offensive force. It'll happen, but she's a rookie. Yeah, we're not. Remember the talent that she was around under Kim Mulkey at LSU? She didn't have to shoot it. She didn't have to be Caitlyn Clark out there offensively with LSU. She was good shooting the ball some. She was good in rebounding and getting put back to LSU. Just remember, that's the reason why they were in the championship level. Now she's the woman at LSU, at the Chicago sky. So she's gonna have to lead. Yeah. And so got to. It'll happen. All right, coming up, we will take a look at the weekend weather. It's been gray gap. Ooh, gray skies, ominous skies. Ooh, well, then the person in charge of the meteorological stuff around here better do her job. Get it, correct it. Oh, really? Yeah. All right, Cheryl Scott. We'll join us coming up next. Oh, wow. On Captain J. Hood. Captain J. Hood are back. And you know this, man. Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. Now it's time for the Captain J. Hood Cut of the Day. Brought to you by Chicago Cut. Steakhouse, J. Moore. Yo. Yes, it's boring, but it's a sport. Oh, whatever. It's not boring. OK, then you're boring. All right, pet. In about ourselves, you know, I saw briefly real quick. ESPN Milwaukee was sending out their show promotion. And their show promotion was, and this is all in all seriousness, are the peckers the best team in the NFC? And who are the packers the best team in the-- Not what you said. You think it said peckers? Do you think it said peckers? You did. Peckers, peckers, peckers. Well, that's fine. That's just a Freudian slip, because we don't like them anyway, right? Right. And that's all, folks. The classic cut of the day brought to you by Chicago Cut Steakhouse. That's right on the sound north side of the Chicago River. It is awesome. Enjoy. Tracy will do her job. They'll be sun out, sit on the patio. Enjoy. We turn now to ABC 7 Night Witness News. And Tracy Butler joins us here to tell us the weekend where they're Tracy, a little overcast and gray. Ooh. I'm out of this. Observe it. Ooh. You know what? I want that to be the toss. J-4. TV. It may be. I want you to say that back to them. J-4, we need the wind. We need the wind machine effects. Do you have those gusty wind sound effects? Because that's what we're going to have today. There we go. There we go. All right, so, Cap, you just told me you're going to a high school football game this evening. I am. I'm going to see Carmel Catholic tonight. Sweet. Do you know that I had a young man on our show this morning who went to Carmel Catholic? Really? He's graduated. He is a student next door at the Art Institute, a Chicago scholar. How about that? His name is Braden Marusic. Nice. An incredible artist. Incredible young man. In fact, his grandma sent cookies. That's where the cookies came from. Oh, super cool. Yeah, super cool. But at that game, and for all the Friday night high school football games, we're probably going to have wind gusts of 40 miles per hour or higher. So that could have an effect on throwing a football. Don't you think? On the kicking game, maybe? The hope that Cap will be blown away. Part of the expression. By the way, you mentioned that kid is a good artist. Do you know that when I was in the eighth grade, I got an F plus in art. And so we got-- remember the report cards? You get little individual cards? I took the art card and dropped it down the sewer so that my parents wouldn't know I got an F. Yes. And you're so-- he's so proud. He's so proud of himself. I am. You're not surprised with the F plus, are you? I'm not shocked. I'm absolutely here in every day. I bet there were many more. Gustave Paws. Gustave Paws was the teacher. Not a fan of that guy. He's probably dead right now. He probably inspired a lot of youngsters. Well, I'm sure. We had a lot of artists come out of my school. F plus means you suck a lot. Yeah, exactly. But not quite as much as anyone who got an F. But suck it nonetheless. Yes. How did we get here? Because his life is about side bars. Yes, you're all right. Yeah. You invented it. OK, so anyway, let's get back. So the windy conditions we're getting today and a little bit of the rain that we get overnight tonight into tomorrow, these are our impacts from the hurricane. This hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast of Florida was so massive. It continues to be massive. If you know anybody in Nashville, Memphis, the Ohio Valley, this weekend, they could be dealing with some flood concerns over the weekend. So if we have any games, you know, Cincinnati, Tennessee, I'm not sure where those teams are playing this weekend, there could be some impact in those areas, is that system is going to kind of sit over the Ohio Valley, much of the weekend. For us on Sunday for the Bears Rams, I think kickoff temperature is probably about 68 degrees, little breezy, a lot of cloud cover. But it will be dry. All right. OK. So doing your job, OK? So what about your Steelers? What's the weather for them? Oh my god. It's a three and oh, sunny forecast. Yeah, how about that Justin Fields? Come on. He's letting them to three whole touchdowns all year. He's being coached. He's leading them. Come on. Three touchdowns. That's all they've scored. What's the same amount as us? Still three, you know. Yeah, because your defense is good and you've got a great coach. We have an incredible defense. Your coach is awesome. Our coach is awesome. I will give you that. Unfortunately, Tracy hasn't watched any of the games because our eyes are covered watching all three games, knowing that Justin Fields is the quarterback. No, that's not true. Scared to death. But what's going to happen when Russell's calf gets all better? This is the big question in Pittsburgh right now. Ross, you're gig. Honey, let me know when the game's over. That's how I watch when my girls play tennis, actually. I like watch through my fingers. Well, that's not me. It's so. Who do the Steelers play this week? Who do we play? I don't even-- I can't even think. Who do they play, buddy? Colts. You take a look at the schedule. And it is the correct, yes. At the Colts. Yeah, we play. That's a win. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It should be. Now, the Steelers will show you how to beat the Colts. Yes. They're going to run the hell out of the football. Justin will throw one touchdown. The defense will get a turnover. And you're going to win 16-10. Perfect. Yeah. Well said. For Bruno, baby. For Justin Fields. Get out of there, Berman. Two African-American quarterback. Well, that's true. Unlaid link. It's birthday fittingly. So there you have it. How about that? How about that? So you know what? What? We're going to hang in there with this weather. You know what? It's so much worse. Yeah. Places elsewhere. Shout-out to the people in the Mid-Atlantic and in the Ohio Valley that you hang in there. In the southeast. Yeah. The ratios come in this weekend, right? None. Maybe just at your house. We'll arrange it. That's the hope. He may feel like-- I better get a call tonight. Don't be at this high school football game. There's a derecho here. We thank you for listening and calling in to being part of the program here. I got it, right? On Captain J. Hood. Carmen and Yerko will be broadcasting live from Buffalo Wild Wings on Taylor Street at 12. Thank you, AI. Thank you, J. Moore. We'll talk to you on Monday for Bears Victory Monday. So long, everybody. Take that from Chicago. I don't like our team.
