We're bad Watch the show on twitch follow ESPN 1000 Chicago Stream the show on the ESPN Chicago app and on in there 100.3 HD 2 and on ESPN 1000 Chicago now David Kaplan and Jonathan hood good morning everyone bring him out bring him out Oh Welcome in to the cap and jay good morning show on ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app But David Kaplan Jonathan hood with you. We have got Jack. We've got J morn We've got you for a three hour ride on this bears Friday with open full lines for you 3 12 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 our telephone number It'll be the Bears and the Rams on Sunday our coverage starts at 7 a.m. Right here on the home of the Bears ESPN 1000 and cap we can't wait for this game because we've talked a lot about the Bears 1 and 2 coming into this game and Just how there's been plays and there's been points that's been left to the side an Opportunity to win that ballgame against Indianapolis. It didn't happen But you got turned the page now the Bears have some key things that need to really address in order for them to win in front of the Faithful at soldier field So a lot to unpack from your comments from practice yesterday We've got some more injury news with Kevin buyer didn't practice which is concerning and we heard The Keenan Allen has been limited the last couple days that all said This is a massive Massive game if you fall the one in three against a banged-up Rams club after losing to a banged-up lousy Colts club in a game that you basically handed them and then we're hearing that the player leadership committee led by Mercedes-Louis are telling Shane Waldron dude, you got a coach harder quit walking around on eggshells here Mercedes-Louis comment was this isn't pop Warner. We're all men in here coach hard well If we've got a coaching staff that is not coaching them hard enough. This is the NFL. Oh My god, what are we doing? Well anytime that you have a veteran player and you talk about veteran players. I mean Mercedes-Louis is 19 years It's been around up for a long time if you're through three games cap and you have to have a veteran player tell a veteran Office of coordinator that you got to do better or you got a coach harder. That's a problem That is a massive problem which goes back to what I was telling you before about Adjustments and how everything does not work Sonically when you want it to meaning that as much as we'd love for Caleb Williams to throw for those 4,000 yards And for him to be all-world and for him to be rookie of the year and lead the Bears the playoffs It might happen, but it won't happen when you want it to happen Shane Waldron for all he did with Gino Smith and what he did with the Seattle Seahawks again It's an adjustment going to a new program because you're learning all these new people you might have this playbook this playbook of genius of all offensive plays But again, you have to make it all work together So I didn't want the Bears to be one and two, but I knew there'd be an adjustment now hopefully hopefully starting on Sunday We can be able to iron out some issues and get back on the winning track everybody on the same page look That's the hope you're correct, but This is the NFL man. What are we doing coaching up? It goes back to the whole hard knocks We can't show any profanity because we don't want that type of image out there. Come on, man What are we doing here hmm and again? I have friends who like hey, I got to watch it with my kid. That's cool. That's great That better not be permeating into practice in the locker room and in the meetings because that's not reality in the national Football League just ask our teammates who played whether that's york or tommy Coach did go isn't coming in going. Hey guys I got fruit roll-ups over there and there's juice boxes and let's sit down and talk about the opponent. They're good guys to know This is a tough Physical game man. Mm-hmm the men who play that game Those are the toughest guys out there and you got to coach them that way You got to be able to coach for results correctly. I've not seen that so let's go to what we're referencing here If you missed it Marseilles Lewis was talking about the leadership meeting and just trying to get everyone on the same page I think many can just continue to be vocal about the things that he sees and don't you know don't feel like You can't point guys out, you know from the oldest guy in the room Like don't feel like you can't you know coaches. I want to be coach. I want to be great like this is not You know It's just not for play, you know, I mean like this is our job win understand that you know, so high Stressful production based business and we all got to be doing the same things or everybody gets by it, right? so Eagles supposed to be left at the door and then that's what it's about and you know He's very receptive to that and they think obviously, you know coming in we got a bunch of dudes, right? Not just guys on the team or this office. We have dudes dudes that have done it at a high level And so sometimes as the coach company, you know, you know, you're walking on eggshells, and I just kind of put that to Big look at the bed, but it's not nobody sensitive in here. You know, we we want to win game. This is a bad as you do And it's a collaborative and everything. This is not part one. You know, this is we work together shot by side to get things done and Yeah, that's really what my message was Also, Lewis while you're in the locker room. Hey, I'm speaking to the media cut the cut the music Don't sing in the shower Anyway, what I was saying it Knowing him as well as I do right such a good dude, man. I guarantee you got done Yeah, next time they're in here. Would you stop with the music? What are you singing? Anyway? Love the brother next to you. I'm sorry bat. Yes back in the day when Olin was Controlling the locker room, which he did he was the alpha in there which every team needs and I don't know who the alpha is on this team Olin if he didn't like the line of questioning if he thought a media member was not treating a player fairly He'd start to flash the lights like a strobe light. Yes, or you'd hear him yell or he'd crank the music that was Not suitable for air. Mm-hmm Message said OG. Yeah, he knows he was the boss in there But you know what that is cap listening to what Mercedes Lewis said that puts a scarlet letter right on the chest of Shane Waldron now listen any time that one of our teams are not doing well usually goes to the players it goes to the coaches and So it would have been nice for you know The Bears are trying to figure this out and be better offensively, but the majority of the calls that we've had is blaming Shane Waldron for Not getting killer Williams prepared not getting the office prepared, but then you heard what Lewis said Okay, so now it puts even more of the hot seat on Shane Waldron just based on what Lewis said it did No question now listen Lewis has got nothing to lose older player. He seen it seen everything. He's seen the good and the bad but he wasn't necessarily outspoken saying that Lewis that That Shane Waldron is a problem. However, the topic was on Shane Waldron That puts even more pressure on him cap. It's one thing for us to have you know opinions fans having strong opinions about the offense Saying that Shane Waldron needs to be better. That's one thing. We're on the outside But when a guy on the inside says that about Shane Waldron saying hey, no eggshells. We got to be Okay, so more than anything else The big glaring light is on Shane Waldron How about that better be better this weekend? He also I thought Was very honest when he said that playing for down to speed option. I've got to be better and I will Yeah, I would like for him also to baby stay in the ballgame Once his his name is called, how about not a penalty about that? No, no, no, I'm talking about Waldron I'm talking about Marseilles until my Mercedes right I I was talking to him the other day We're doing an interview and I said a big dog. Yeah You jump off side again this week and dinner's on you. He's like, okay fair enough. It won't happen again Because I heard We have fall start 84 offense five yard penalty replay second He's like we're going on silent count. It's not like I can hear the cadence and I tried to look back at the quarterback To see and I got nailed. Yes. Yeah, so I I would say that I think that that was a strong comment And again what that does listening to Lewis talk for those 70 seconds is that that justifies the opinion of many bears fans saying Hey, man, we believe in Caleb the majority of bears fans believe in Caleb But we just don't believe in Waldron. That's they're putting them in the right spot offensive line wise and play call wise That the bears aren't doing enough to be able to support Caleb Williams hat where we've heard this before Justin yes, it's supporting the quarterback, correct Gotta be able to run the football and then give him enough time to get the ball The guys get the ball out among the Quickston League. This is not what we were dealing with a year ago But he's been inaccurate. He's missed some deep throws Rome was open the DeAndre Carter a couple weeks ago open He missed miss communicated with DJ more and Rome on Back shoulder throws so that stuff's got to get cleaned up Got to Almost the entire offense was out of dinner last night Okay, that means nothing for me on Sunday But that's what Jim McMahon did with his offense. Yeah, and that's how they develop Chemistry that is how you develop chemistry. I would imagine that the players would have dinner cap Well together what that's fine. I haven't heard the bears like when that was a huge thing. You're not that old I mean not not you're old enough to remember in the 80s when every Thursday night Jim McMahon and the offense went to dinner. Yes there was involved in all of the ask him next time we talked to him and that is how They built Chemistry how they bonded and that's how they took it moved it forward now Jim had been here for a bit Caleb's in his first year But I got to hear that this week the offense was all on the same page doesn't mean every play's gonna work Gotta be on the same page. Does that dinner equal a victory? I? Think they win this weekend. I'm just saying like we're gonna find out this next two weeks is massive camaraderie and getting along and playing grab ass all those things are great cap But what we talk about and what fans talk about is did my team win did my team lose agree when you're busy with family and Finances and business and faith and all these other things You just want to have three hours plus of watching your favorite team and you just need to know when I'm when I'm gonna invest My time in the Chicago Bears are they're gonna win. Are they gonna lose? Are we good? Are we not good? You're right? That's what people want to know fair like it's good that they're together and they're side-by-side with plates of food But can you win on Sunday? That's all people care about are you gonna be are you better than last year? Are we gonna see you some playoff? Appearances for the Bears this season. That's what people want to know and one of the reasons why that the Bears could get there is The offense Shane Waldron a guy chance to speak to the media yesterday Let's hear from Shane Waldron coming up next in your phone calls three one two three three two ESPN three two three two three seven Seven six are phone number cap and I want to find out from you as AI jackless over the phone lines the Bears will win If fill in the blank the Bears will pay the Rams the Bears will win if This happens on Sunday. Let's fill in that blank and talk to you about the Bears on the home of the Bears ESPN 1000 You know how tight it is Welcome back Welcome back to camping Jay hood on Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago It's a cap and Jay good morning show on a ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app Here's hoping that you can have a great Friday and a great weekend as we get ready for the Bears and Rams full coverage Start to 7 a.m. On Sunday right here on ESPN 1000 and on the ESPN Chicago app The Bears will win if blank against the Rams as we're talking about here on cap and Jay hood so Shane Waldron is the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears cap and Yesterday was his day to speak mm-hmm. So a number of things I know that you want to know like everybody else wants to know about that bad fourth down call Horrible, but I want to know more and I talked to you about this. I believe you opined on it the other day Why you blocking? Tyquan Lewis six three two sixty seven with DeAndre Carter five eight. Yeah, come on, man. You ought to be smarter than that Go we've seen mismatches already several times this year as much as we like think that Cole Komet is a good blocking tight end can be a good blocking tight end when you got a monster on the other side It's impossible. We saw this in the Houston game. Correct. Correct. So same thing here Like even Carter raises arms after that play like why am I out here? Did you see that alone? Yeah, you watch that. What am I doing? Yeah, and if you said look Who was the guy in the middle for the Titans? Sweat to make a sweat. Yeah, okay if he engulfs our offensive line and he's better than we are it is what it is We put our biggest guy there and it didn't work. We got to be better But when you're strategically beaten before the ball is snapped and go back You can find it on my Twitter feed and watch that play. I posted it Monday Dude, we got a five eight guy blocking this animal coming around the end who six three two sixty seven With long arms and he not only engulfs him drives him backwards He drives him right into Khalil Herbert and tackles the two of them I mean that really that's how we design the play Shane Waldron responds I think when you're in the shotgun in the in the low red zone there You obviously present the the option of the quarterback to run it right there You know, I know that when it comes down everyone will want to talk about it and ask about it the fourth down call right there Where it didn't work out after we had some interior runs, you know, I know for me, you know I can't I can't look back at the past and in that negative light I got to look back in the past and live in the press and the present be better for us learn from it and improve there But in terms of being in the gun versus being under center, you know There's different styles are both and I know when you present that extra element because in the low red zone Defense has that extra hat down there quarterback in the gun now presents that that opportunity Acceptable It is not look he started out and obviously he's watched way more football over his life than I have I've watched as a fan He's been an offensive coordinator. I just hate that. What was it seven consecutive plays were in the gun. Yeah When you got the ball to one yard line It was first a goal to four second and goal at the two third and goal to one Why can't we not? Put our guy under center put a guy under center to push it Whatever you got to do to get into the end zone and if we're not good enough at the touch push That's fine. Hand it off or sneak it over the top inside whatever you need to do Can't do that just just get just barrel a hole in their cap so you can get yourself in there for a touchdown Agree more from Waldron I think for us just being able to communicate get to the line of scrimmage a little bit faster right there So we can get you know what we want out of the play and so again all those things start with me I got to be better in that situation. I will moving forward now that is fair He's ready to turn the page and by the way when you're in that spot cap you have to turn the page You can speak to this as a coach if there's something that did not work Yeah, you're you're beating yourself up over it. You're being your players up over it You got the film going but you got get to the next game correct You got him you got to learn from it and then you got to move on you got Wisconsin next cap You can't think think about the game that you have before Give him the flashbacks. You saw the film though. That's enough. Yeah, you'd watch that you'd be like, oh god What we got to clean that? Oh, man, we got a game in two days. That was basketball Yes, and then your coach is coming over to you on the bus Flipping on the dome light and asking you cap. What was that play right and we didn't have try to get some Sledo back then you try to get some sleep correct We didn't have digital back then where you just kind of run it back on your iPad Yeah, I didn't literally take a razor blade and you would cut a piece of tape. All right. Here's a splice the worst When it ran out then you try to thread the projector my kids like what Yeah Play Stop it And that's the end Brutal Brutal Waldron. We haven't lived up to our expectations yet for us as an offense right now And I know we haven't lived up to what what we want to be in our building right now in terms of some of the execution there But the thing that we can rely on is the communication has been great and it's been consistent and it's ever-growing, right? It's changing. There's different guys that have You know different six different experiences within games and communicating to them, you know the reactions or what we're doing You know based on this stat or the next thing in terms of either defensive structure or when we come out Or off of a series and talk through things and so I think we're built the right way the players are built the right way And I think seeing that keep improving as we move forward is something that we'll show so the positive out of this cap Is that you saw Caleb Williams? Yes? He threw it for 52 times 33 for 52 good for 360 three yards He was able to connect to via Dunes A's and the commits and the DJ Moore's And his running backs in the passing game the Andre Carter with three. That's great So the other point of it though on the other side is you're not running the football effectively enough Caleb is turning the ball over. He had two interceptions. It was fewer sacks in this game Against the Colton it was for the Texans. Yes four correct. Yeah four versus seven against the Texas Texans. Correct. Okay So they're working on it. There's no there's no doubt that they're working on trying to get better when we you gave the numbers A couple of days ago about when Caleb has time to throw how sterling those numbers look correct where it looks like oh Looks like a good offense. I know it's never going to be a clean pocket every time cap I understand that there's going to be some misthrows here or there Hell there might be interception with a rookie quarterback, but some of the things that are controllable. You got to control The things are controllable like being able to open a hole to be able to run the football for Dunes 8 to not be 10 yards short of where Caleb's trying to throw 10 yards down the field. Whatever it is These controllables can be fixed Now can you execute? Correct control the controllables. Yeah, but can we just coach our guys hard and let's not make mistakes Let's not beat ourselves That's the worst in sports. That's the worst. You know, I see it on a nightly basis when you beat yourself. Yeah four and five outs in an inning errors You know mistakes and you don't want that for the bears in this game against against the Rams So the bears will win if the bears run for over a hundred yards The rush for a hundred over a hundred yards because 28 out of 63 cap You're 28 carry 63 yards in a game against the Colts You know, we had six bears run the football last Sunday, right? Correct. And you still only got 63 yards out of it against that front Let's see the six were Caleb obviously ran it DeAndre ran it Khalil Herbert ran it Rochon Johnson ran it. That's four Did we run DJ on an end around the end minus six? Yeah, that's five. Who's the other one? You say swift I said swift. Yeah, Johnson Swift Herbert Williams a dunes a oh a dunes a round one for two Yeah, so I mean, so I yeah, you got six guys. You still can't get over 100 yards That's that if we don't get a hundred yards cap is gonna be hard to win agree So I would say that's one thing the other thing is to for the defense to be opportunistic again Like this they always preach team and it's true. It's all about team. I like to have a turnover against Against effort. I like for the second area to get to pick him off a little bit and put some pressure on him because he's a damn Good player sure so so more opportunities for the offense to percolate. Yes, so what's the weather supposed to be like son? I know Tracy you'll be in here at 950 the weather's a key. Mm-hmm weather is absolutely a key So three one two three three two three seven seven six you heard from Shane Waldron Captain are asking the bears will win if fill in that blank for us right here on the home of the bears Southside Tito was the first to call us on ESPN 1000 Tito. Good morning How are you man doing good doing good? Real quick. I'm gonna just say that the bears will win if Shane Waldron figures out the personnel I'll tell you what I mean by that I don't know if you guys also heard in that interview when they asked him or when he said that Kaleel Herbert was a short yardage Back that just threw up a huge red flag for me because I'm like you got Roshan Johnson there your bruiser Because your offensive line isn't getting any push He's the one who runs through people and gets those extra yardage and you're telling me you're putting Kaleel Herbert in there As your short yardage back. He's your vision back. Okay. Let me ask you something. Sorry to interrupt you Let me ask you a question, and I'm not coming at you. I'm coming at him up in the lake forest He said he's the short yardage back yet on fourth and inches at the five who did give the ball to That be roshan johnson roshan johnson They gave they gave one that night the fourth the fourth yard the fourth downplay no no yeah Do you get the first down at the five fourth and inches roshan johnson slammed it in there and got it? Right, so why did you go to go to kaleel herbert then and say he's I don't mean you I mean him why is he the short yardage back when you had to have the first down you gave it to roshan johnson That's exactly my point and then you're on the goal line four times in a row and you don't give it to him So to me, I'm like this guy doesn't know the personnel just like with Cole Kameh He wasn't using him in the beginning and like 48% of the snaps on week one and then all of a sudden this This week he uses them like 70% he has 10 catches for a hundred yards I'm like what is this what is this guy doing here? Yeah, and then also uber flus sitting there saying that in his price conference Oh, we're still trying to figure out our best five. I'm like wait a minute. You had all camp to figure this out I understand you invested in Nate Davis and you want to make good on your investment and make sure you see if he's playing good But he's not man his heads not in the game. I don't know you know the family loss. Maybe you're still getting to him I don't know. I really don't know his head is not in football right now It's not and the fact you know Matt Pryor. He did okay. He didn't do too bad. There was a car outside of a couple of snaps He was not doing he was doing good. Yeah, he was he was acceptable Nate Davis actually was a thanks for the call full Participant practice yesterday. So maybe the message was received. I don't know from a running back standpoint cap I don't think that swift is going to start. I Think that it's makes sense for Roshan Johnson to be the lead back to start the game I think that that's we're gonna see on Sunday. I think that that's where they're leaning because it only makes sense Look we talk about adjustments all the time You might fight feel great about DeAndre Swift and you can look at the money's like well for the money he's making He should start every game and then if he's ineffective, then he has to be able to be the second running back That's just the way it works. Nate Davis had a quote-unquote groin injury as uber flus told us no Nate Davis was ineffective. That's why he put prior in there. That's what happened That's what he did because of his groin Was so much of a problem. Then why was he in there as soon as somebody got hurt Could have anyone else they can lay into the first corner. Here comes Nate Davis Yeah, cuz who tweaked something was it was it Kevin? Yeah, I think it was your mate was darno right had to come out Whoever it was Nate Davis came in and played well these injured so much. What are you doing? There's Bill Murray can put Bill Murray in there. That's active was Bill Murray active last week I mean that because that would have been the choice Nate still stay back. Correct. Come on, man Look I understand there's proud veterans That's making a lot of money cap But are you trying to win or are you trying to appease the guys with the salaries with the big salaries? Come on, man. That's why I believe that the Bears will make the adjustment and Roshan John to will start it off and DeAndre Swift for what he again salary aside. He's better than this He's has to be better than this. I know that a would I prefer an offensive lineman in hindsight other than paying DeAndre Swift? Sure But the bottom line is is that Ryan polls did what he thought was best for the Bears by making sure you have a veteran in that room In the running back room correct, but he if he wanted DeAndre Swift, that's fine You have money left you could have added more. Yeah, they believed in what they have now those guys got to justify that faith Gotta win Sunday cap Sunday's a massive game, man You got them and then Andy Dalton rolling into town the following week You don't think he's gonna want to stick it to the Bears absolutely will he will try to everyone here laughed about Andy Dalton The red rifle he sticks through three touchdown passes last week and the Panthers won big Hey, now now his play is fleeting now Like it don't we don't have any thoughts of him leading the Panthers to the playoffs or even seven or eight wins There's gonna be spurts there where the red rifles feels good and there's gonna be games where he's gonna get killed Because that's his career He's a career backup but on that team added a little spice to the team so Bryce could learn on the sidelines But this this game says a lot about where the Bears are yep Yeah, all this stuff about feel good and same page and all that and clean this up clean that up I just want to see the Bears win enough of the conjecture enough of the nonsense I just want to see the Bears win have a good operation of both sides of football and move forward It says quote unquote the soft part of the schedule Well, is it soft for the Bears or is soft for their opponents against the Bears 3 1 2 3 3 2 PSP and 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 our phone number the Bears will win if fill in that blank for us Also cap and I were at the Sox game yesterday. Oh boy. It fun had some interesting things happen there at that Sox game We'll talk about it as well. Shout out. No shot eight o'clock on the cap and jay hood morning show We are for real the cap and jay hood morning show on a SP in 1000 and streaming on the SP and Chicago app Are with you until 10 o'clock then my green bird comes in at 10 followed by Carmen Yerko 12 to 3 1 on Sylvie three to five Into exciting white Sox baseballs. I take on the Tigers at say five o'clock pregame right here on the home of the white Sox ESPN 1000 You're nervous never Never huh? What do you Caleb? Never nervous? You got to go to Bama this weekend. Yeah, never nervous Georgia at Alabama hoodies Georgia Bulldogs Finally playing somebody of some substance before the playoffs They're all of substance Kentucky was a substance a couple of weeks ago. That was a tough game Found a way to win Now I'm never nervous. You know why because college football has been so bastardized It's like a public toilet everybody can get into the big game now. I mean it was great when it was just the final four I gotta be by you lose the game. All right. You're still good enough get in Stop, it was better. The system was better a few years ago, but we lose against Bama Kissed to a plate. You still went out. No problem. It's always big between a dollar not though, but there's always a respect No trash talk cuz we know it's about family the SEC family. That's it. You know We think of college football. You don't call it college football. We talk about the best you talk about the SEC That's exactly right. Looking for all your big players in the NFL go south pal That's where the best are there you go. You know offensive lineman though. Go to big 10 3 1 2 3 3 2 ESPN 3 2 3 7 7 6 now, and then it's our telephone We're running back occasionally. That's an old joke now. I'm good punter. Yeah, it's an old joke because now it's why so wide open cap There's there's talent everywhere Crazy everywhere. So we'll talk to Jesse Rogers on the Cubs and Sox and everything else MLB coming up at 7 45 We've been talked to you about the Bears and let's go back to the phone lines to talk to you It is Ivan in Glenview on ESPN 1000 Ivan good morning Good morning fellows mayor now. How you guys doing today? We're good brother. How you doing? Great man. Friday can't complain and I believe the Bears will win like how everyone's saying it's Chained wall trying to figure it out. What's the personnel? I do believe it's now or never I know we're about to be a quarterway through the season and I've heard a couple guys on the radio talking about the first, you know quarter of the season kind of to figure it out I would like to see Some more creativity. Maybe some maybe I'm not seeing it correctly, but maybe some 22 seg at both tight ends out there two running backs I don't really like to see our offensive coordinator shaking on the sideline, you know calling plays I would like to see you know, maybe more a little more direct and some authority and you know for Shady Lewis telling us How he's walking on eggshells. I'm not a good sign. I still have faith. I love what I'm seeing out of Caleb and Rome So, you know, bear down. Hopefully we get a victory. Hopefully we can run the ball and Last but not least go socks, baby, and I'll let you guys talk it out and have a good weekend All right, a lot of a lot of shout outs there Ivan. Okay. Appreciate your telephone call The list of socks bears bear down. Okay. I'm Marcia. He's Lewis That's it. We got a laundry list, but he got it all out there on a feel-good Friday He did it's a football Friday We should circle back to one of the things he talked about and again cap Lewis had Marseilles Lewis the tight end for the pair It says every right to be able to speak on what he sees for this football team because he's one of the leaders of the football team He leads the team correct people to you know lead by example Well, he's one of those guys it does that because he's seen everything but man You know what he said there about Shane Waldron really stands out to me a lot But it also speaks about Iberflus Because of Iberflus was I'm not saying you got to be Mike Dica, but if he was Really coaching him hard not wanting to be liked And again, I'm not in that room He wouldn't tolerate an offensive coordinator that apparently is like that Like I love when I watch not our hard knocks But some of the other ones where you see like The dc with the jets back in the day the guy. I don't know if he's still there I got the big like Facial hair not a full beer, but like scruffy and he's yelling at guys God f bombing this guy and that guy about this way he played this play I'm like that's coaching hard because You can yell at a player, but you cannot demean a player It's different You can't say you f and blankety blank, but you can get in their face and go Would you f and set the edge here? Would you please get a wide base? And yell and scream and push and prod that's different J more how cap with the shaky hands man just do nervous He is but he does look nervous 180 You need to do better. That's what right. That's what lewis saw Like shaking the hands of Waldron like jamer you have Wow Makes a cup of coffee nervous does jamer you and I have something in common our kids played college football And I remember my son getting a fall start penalty fall starts 78 offense five yard pay now they got a punt instead of go for it on fourth and inches And he came up and his coach was in his face screaming at him And one of the moms said to my wife You okay with him speaking to your son that way my wife He shouldn't have jumped off side. I go it's called a fall start, but whatever. I love you Uh your son played at a higher level. He was josh allen's Protector. Yes. Did you have a problem if they got in his face or did he? Absolutely not but according to twitch He needs to stop being shaky shane. That's why she stopped being shaky shane The thing should be okay said and of course cap had to be that be that guy to correct his own wife on a call on football I did just had just kind of just let it go She's the emotional and she's you know happy and of course you just had to correct her Just because he had to not off-site. Yeah, fall start. Yeah, and now whatever and I would have punched you in the balls Uh bridge view and joe is on cap and jhood joe. Good morning Hey, how you doing? What's up there buddy house bridge view job. That's awesome. Awesome so I just wanted to say uh You know, I just think coach eva flus is a participation award coach He doesn't uh You know like you won't say nate gave us his bench because he doesn't want to hurt his feelings He'll throw a red flag because the corner back is the corner back is throwing a tantrum on the field Right. He's got eight captains. We need a general. We you know he can't you know, it's not a participation game They need somebody who who says hey, this is the way it is And and that's the way it is You know, I just it drives me nuts that same that same uber flusa holds the players accountable You told me right? Yeah, that's what I told you that's what players said. Yes as I just said Right the players the guy that holds players accountable according to players that what they said, okay But it doesn't sound like shane wall drin does Does not sound that way. Mm-hmm now again you can hold people accountable and you could say to the media nate davis is not starting this week because i'm not pleased with his performance Or he's got a tweak groin and we're probably gonna go in that prop like There's a way to do it. Mm-hmm. I'm not saying you come out here and go. I have yet 64 is a loser. No Nate has not performed at the level we expected when we signed him We love him. We're gonna keep working with him, but he's not starting this week Jesse on the latest on the cubs and socks next on cap and jhood. I really don't have much for you guys Uh, you know, you just gotta you just gotta flush them in If you miss something get the podcast on the espn Chicago app Jeff and jhood are back on chicago's home for sports espn Chicago Now time for jessie rogers right here on the cap and jhood morning shows we talked baseball with jessie And he's on the hotline that would be the car x tire and i don't know hot rattle rattle thunder batter boom boom boom Don't worry call the correct sleigh Good morning jessie. How are you? I am packing for the trite Ah, you we're gonna be done, but the socks just keep on winning pal But this is what I love about baseball who could have predicted detroit would be the center of the baseball universe this week and for Two very different reasons the tigers coming out of nowhere can clinch a spot tonight and of course the white sock stole Looking to clench as john greeberg said to us yesterday. They can't even lose right the white socks can't even lose right so um All you media guys having a pack for the motor city so sad that the media didn't see the loss and the sock said Put it up take it up your your rear end. That's what happened. They just kept winning And the week reminded me stay with me on this analogy of the movie rockey for Where rockey had to win over the crowd in russia when he fought trago kids You need to watch all the rockey movies because the beginning of the week there were boos and sell the team And by the end of the week, they actually were cheering When chris flexen waft off the mound with a with a nice outing and then they won the game and there was cheering No, certainly there were few boos here and there but you guys didn't hear the amount of boos on on tuesday You know where it was really loud and the chance and people getting kicked out by thursday I felt like the socks had won over the crowd. You see that cap there was a heel turn there Like the fans were there to to be pissed at the socks sell the team tell the team And that's what people were there for yesterday But then the socks started winning and then now the fans remember why you're really there to support the team You might not support you might not support jerry jesse, but you can support the guys on the field And I guess I could tell the story because still we already did but the after the game after the game got into the uh elevator From the press box with one jerry ryan's door. It was packed in the elevator And I said kind of loud but right to jerry. I said jerry you saved your best for last And he said well Wish we would have saved our best for first Good response And uh, we went on our way. So uh, you know, it's uh the home seasons come to An end at least on a high note, but uh, I'll tell you what the trite man. I was just looking at hotels I mean they're there's jam. The prices are high I I don't want to relay a quick story from spring training. I don't know another executive mentioned, you know scott harris the young former Basically intern with the cubs used to get coffee for jet and field. He is now running the tigers We call him the boy wonder. He's only 37 years old And someone was telling me scott harris has the best job in baseball I'm like, what are you talking about? Frank cash man. Andrew freepin. He's like, no. No, no Detroit is a baseball town that ownership will spend the fans will show up You know cleveland and minnesota. They're not the baseball towns They used to be and and certainly know the south side's having its issues drawing and and playing well He may not be wrong. Detroit's going to be rocking this weekend. They are to have a traditionally Big-time baseball town. Think about it. Not really a football town in Detroit. They're not a basketball town They really are a baseball town. So I think it's be rocking and you know, it's amazing to run. They're on I mean, I know scott harris well and I talked to him in spring training They're like two years ahead of schedule with this playoff appearance It's it's insane and you know kudos to them. They want on a great run So as you looked at yesterday's game, I had a great time out there stayed right to the end Right to the final pitch and I went down on the stands It's not with some friends from nbc sportscago as that station Goes away. I was hanging with some people that met mean a lot to me and There was a vibe in the stands like wow people were actually standing in the ninth inning Was seven to nothing. It was I thought it was actually a statement about the passion that the white sock fan has I think it's a good observation that brings me full circle as i'm talking about Detroit We know The socks fan base it is a sleeping giant if you provide a winner if you give a good experience That place can rock as much as rigly field, but you need to do these things and you haven't done that It is a sleeping giant on the south side as well with I mean certainly if for with real ownership The socks could absolutely own that division The the whole reason I mentioned that story about Detroit is because the socks have opened uh, you know There's a void there in the in the division in terms of a team being a monolith Because no ownership wants to take you know charged, but the trite will Uh, if they're ready to win and it seems like they're getting closer, but yeah, it can be a fun time on the south side Just haven't seen it in a few years You know, um any intel on on grady size more I mean with this winning streak that the socks are on. I know it's been a horrible season size more is that the reason for it I mean if you're going to put a bet out jesse on who's going to be the next manager where what's the odds on size more Okay, yeah, I will say this and I I downplayed it to sylvian waddle the other day And of course I shouldn't speak so quickly when it comes to the white socks anything is possible I'm certainly a guy that downplayed the hiring of larusso the potential hiring I will say the odds are coming down in his favor meaning if he was a hundred to one Maybe he's 50 to one or 30 to one because of this reason and I don't know if it's enough The players absolutely love him and the and the transition from gefall Who didn't have any leadership skills who the players really didn't like To this guy has been a huge it's a 180 in there. Oh, I got a text from an agent I was on the train home yesterday a text from an agent Uh from a player on the team. They got to hire this guy the players love this guy jesse. I'm telling you they love him Now loving a manager or an inter manager shouldn't be the number one criteria Yeah, chucks in my quality exactly you need respect love and respect helps But I will say maybe he has one box check that the players do like him. That's a start That's a start, but I don't think it's a finish so the odds have come down I don't think gets you know would would say that without at least a little opening meaning what he said the other day reversing course So even though I downplayed it on sylvian waddle just two days ago I got to admit after listening to chris flexin after talking to an agent like, you know, I know the players like them that gets you somewhere at least the Interesting thing as I mentioned my quality the players went to management and said to jim head Got to hire this dude. We love this guy. And then I remember I think it was ryan dumpster But one of them said to me dude as soon as he got named full-time manager. He completely changed Completely changed. Yeah, it can happen So I do think that might happen with a few guys that they go to gets if they haven't already and put in the vote Vote for him, but you know gets it has to do like you read my story two days ago gets has to do what jerry would not do In hiring gets interview everybody learn from the dodgers learn from the astros learn from the race And if size more is the best guy for the job fine But get out there and learn some things and learn about other candidates We asked you to check out jessie's piece jessie with buster only Inside the 2024 white socks road to major league baseball's all-time worst record It's available now at espn.com click white socks and you'll be able to read What was there uh any cubs news? Well, I mean we we have to say goodbye to cal henryx right final start in a cub uniform tomorrow Unless something strange happens in the off season. Oh, he told me that he would play goes. Look. I made my money I'll play for whatever amount of money they want. You don't think they'd bring him back I know I don't think they'll bring him back, but I do think he wants to play and I do think he would even get a minor league invite Yeah, I think he would do I think he's gonna play until they they ripped the jersey off He sure they better be sure they're right because they did this many many years ago to jamey moir And they are from a coaching job. I know i picked for like 15 more years. All right. Let's let's let's talk about jamey moir That's a fact. I don't want to hear about jamey moir was living with a buddy of mine They were roommates and he said to hit the cubs. Hey, they said would you like to be a minor league pitching coach? She's like I feel like I could still pitch. Nah. He's like, let me come on a minor league invitation to spring training If you caught me, I'll coach Not we're good. He took the same invite from the mariners. He was the winningest lefty in the 90s I mean, I think there's a lot of teams that could have interests made Take like the Pittsburgh pirates. They have paul schemes jared jones Wouldn't you maybe bring in a guy like hendrix is a five or even in the bullpen to bring her along or a young staff and yes You know, he may not last the year there who knows he has to pitch, but he'll find a job somewhere I don't think it's with the cubs, but a guy like that. I think we can say it. I don't like to like, you know bring up personal stuff, but Absolutely my favorite player to cover and so any locker room. Yeah, I mean he's the best everyone knows that I don't have to say you guys know it fans know it My favorite player to cover in my whole career that guy fits in any locker room And so I think a contender a non contender would pick him up Then he has to perform, but he can do so much behind the scenes as well So, um, you know, if the sock lose tonight, I get to come back to the hendrix final start tomorrow And I wouldn't mind doing that and by the way, dust and buffalo would like to have a word Jesse is always we appreciate the time Jesse rogers is brought to you by west coast men's health west coast men's health Helping many overcome ed and chronic pain for over five years go to uh west coast men's health dot com Yeah, I'm partying with dusted bufflin and jesse. That's why jesse would probably feel that way Wow, uh two minutes shot or no shot. Here we go
