It's now been downgraded to a tropical storm as it approaches North Carolina. The worst weather for us mid-morning to early afternoon. A flood watch and a high wind watch are in effect for Rockingham County until tonight. Significant rainfall, flash flooding, winds 40 to 50 miles per hour possible and expect power outages. At 715, there are none in Rockingham County. Buncombe County has almost 65,000 customers without power. Henderson and Mecklenburg both 35,000. Total Duke Energy System outages 858,866. In the western part of our state, Asheville is getting pounded. They're under a flash flood emergency and expecting 70 to 80 miles per hour winds. Good news, the old Leaksville nighttime Christmas parade this year is being organized by Ingrid McCraw and Sandra Meadows. Owners of Rocco is home and Leslie Wyatt, owner of Hive Eden. The group says it plans to revitalize the spirit of the parade and create a magical experience for everyone by working together for an event that reflects the spirit of our community. Funeral services are being held tomorrow for James Leroy Peagram, 95 of Reedsville. The oldest deputy for the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, about 45 years, serving under Sheriff's Carl Axum, Bobby Vernon and Sam Page. He was a lifetime member of Woodmont United Methodist Church, a certified sea captain with a Coast Guard, charter member of the Rescue Squad, and past president of the J.C.'s. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Gloria, who retired after many years in the banking business. Services for Leroy Peagram are Saturday morning, visitation at City Funeral Home this evening. American renters are paying an unaffordable amount of their salary to rent according to government data. Renters are cost burdened if they pay more than thirty percent of income on rent. The majority of renters in most states and the twenty biggest cities and counties are cost burdened under that definition. During the pandemic it was very hard to find a lightly used car under twenty thousand dollars. But a study by automotive website iccars.com shows sub twenty thousand dollar vehicle inventory is up by thirty percent since last year. Giving the budget conscious buyer a lot more choices. What happens when mortgage rates start to fall? The Mortgage Bankers Association reports mortgage applications surged eleven percent in just one week.
