Monday, September 23rd, 2024, ahead of Monday night football on a game day in and around the nation's capital. We're Grant and Danny coming your way on the fan and we are thrilled to let you know that we are currently just down the road from Pekor Stadium where the Bengals are hosting the commanders tonight. We started our day in Kentucky. Yep. We spent some time in Cincinnati and we are currently at the Hollywood Casino Sports Book or as we're going to call it Thumbs Watch Bar in Lawrenceburg, Indiana where we will be broadcasting live today and tomorrow ahead of the commanders and the Bengals. This trip's been amazing already and oh by the way, there's a football game tonight. The boys, the local 53 whose names you change immediately play Cincinnati in prime time. Prime time is not been kind to Washington, Monday night football especially. They're three in a trillion in their last handful of games, numbers approximate. But the entire point of all of this GP is with new ownership and actual GM that's a guy that's in charge of football operations. That's not one of the buddies of the owner who ends up being a scapegoat, a general manager who has football qualifications who has people in his employ that do smart things. The idea is this is all supposed to be different now and Jay Daniels is here to hopefully make this different now. No more prime time embarrassments, no more tomfoolery, no more ballet who, no more embarrassments on national television. You're hoping that this is a different time and it starts tonight. We're ready for football. Now we just got to wait another six hours and 15 minutes or so. But we will get you covered ahead of kickoff better than anybody here on Grant and Danny in the hours ahead. Jay Gruden will join the show at five o'clock to help us preview commanders, Bengals, Logan Paulson stops by. We will break down the X's the o's of this game with Logan at six o'clock before we hit the road. No, he said jokingly we're in Indiana. We were in Kentucky. We've been in Cincinnati. So the way it works in this tri-state area. Everything's about 20 minutes apart. We wanted to come hang with Tommy. He's got this incredible sports book we're sitting in. By the way, there's a robot that delivers people's food. I want to order food for two reasons. One, I'm hungry. I'd like to eat second. I need that robot. So do we know that we get the robot or do we have to do anything special to get the robot? Well, we know Thoms. I'm imagining he'll hook the robot. Okay. What I want to do is oh, and one more thing. Like, I don't want to order everything together. So the robot comes once. I want the robot to make several trips. I just want to see the robot deliver the food. Well, the robot has a name. I don't think it was Dora. It was something like that. The Explorer. But he told us that last week the robot bumped into one of their other machines. They've got arcade games and pop a shot and a bunch of stuff here. And there was a pretty serious collision. Oh, no. With this, I would imagine very expensive robot. But if you get a burger, I think a robot's going to bring it to you. This is what I want. So I'm excited about that. Well, when we get Tommy on in a little bit, we'll have to, that's going to be the, we haven't seen him in years. Yeah, we're just going to end up locking in on the robot. Hey, man. How are you? That's great. The robot. Right. Tell us about the robot. But I'm excited to get to the bottom of that. But there's been so many things, man. So last night we were surprised. We're out here with our guys, a Condorian Murad, who sponsor our show. You guys hear about them every day, the law firm who makes the show possible and keeps the lights on for us at the station. And they do this road trip every year where they get the boys, their family, you know, together from the law firm and they hit the road. And this year, they were going to Cincinnati and they said, we want you guys to come with us. So they've set everything up, beautiful tell, amazing accommodations, flew us out here. We were kicking it. And what was the equivalent way I would describe it, Danny, would be like the suite you would hang out in all day before a wedding with all of your buddies. Yes. That's where we watched the four o'clock games yesterday with those guys. And then knowing you're a big pickleball guy, the leader of the trip was Seymour Rod. He said, Hey, I got a surprise for you guys. One of the biggest pickleball venues in America was like 20 minutes away. So at nine p.m. last night, we drove there and played pickleball for a couple of hours. It was awesome. That venue, I forget what it's called. It's like pickle palace or pickled kingdom, whatever it is, enormous. I think it was actually like pickleville, right? I'm not even kidding. I think it's something like that. It's the biggest pickleball venue I've ever seen certainly. The courts were like professional caliber courts. It was fantastic. I've got to say this. Right up front, I'm a little annoyed by this, but it's true. I have to give you your flowers. Grant's a little bit of a natural pickleball player. I don't know about that. I do know about that. You're better than you should have been in my mind. Okay. So I don't know if you would take guys in an insult. That's kind of a little bit of, that's not a foreign to compliments, but of a backhanded compliment. Right. But pretty natural doing it. The shot of the night, belonged to you. Thank you. Several games were played good times were had, etc. But it's going to sound bad at first, but it's not. There was a ball lofted over granted. We're not going to break down pickleball points. I promise you, we know the team plays the game tonight and there's football to discuss. But the ball left it over. Grant said he kind of left his feet, tried to slam it down, swung and missed. Not one of those like, Oh my God, he's swung and missed what a loser kind of plays. But it's like the only way he's going to get it is to try to jump up and get it and it went over his paddle. So he lands, turns around and is surprised to see the ball that has bounced up right by his stomach in this kind of spin around move. The other team had stopped playing because the point was over, but it wasn't. Grant over his head hits it with some English on it. Some, actually lands on the end line of the other court and bounces off for a winner. It's one of the 10 greatest shots I've ever seen in the history of pickleball. And it's all I can think about. I was laying in my bed last night in my comfortable hotel bed at the hotel coming to North, not the regular one, the hotel North coming to so comfortable. As I shut my little eyes, I thought about that shot. Yeah, I felt good about that. You should feel good about it. I pride myself on my sneaky athleticism. I believe what that's what they say when you're very portly and on the athletic level. You got good hands, man. But I appreciate that. I will, before we move on from pickleball, I will just tell people that the Danny Rugay pickleball experience was everything that I anticipated. Now, to your credit, even though you take pickleball unbelievably seriously, and to some, I'm not going to say to all, but probably the most way too seriously, you were very complimentary. You were trying to give everyone pointers and tips, which was very nice. One thing happened though, where Danny as the game went on would get more and more into it and would really start getting upset if you hit a ball into the net or missed, there were loud, my teammates would do stuff. I would, I didn't curse you. Not me. Oh, when I would, yes, if I didn't hit a ball into the net, when you would hit a ball that didn't go where you wanted it to or the spin wasn't just so, you would curse it yourself very loudly. You would apologize to me as if I cared even a little bit. I was too busy trying to see if Kirk and the Falcons were making their way down the field on my cell phone, but you're like, dude, I'm so sorry about that. I should have had that. As if I cared even in an Iota, but I had a blast. I have to tell you, as much as I Jones, I had a lot of fun. Sorry about it. Sorry about it. The most fun sport there is, but here's my kind of favorite thing that's happened so far. So I flew out earlier than you and Daris. We were all supposed to fly together at about noon, one o'clockish yesterday. I didn't want to be in the air during an NFL Sunday. We only get 18 of them. They're so precious. They mean so much to me. So I moved my flight up in the morning to make sure that I landed so I could either come to Tom's Watch Bar or somewhere else to watch games. Well, I ended up talking to a listener who was seated across for me the entire flight. We're just chopping it up, talking to DC sports, whatever. And when we landed, I told him I was headed to the hotel. He said, oh, I'm going to the Reds game today. I had no idea the Reds were home. When I travel, this is my normal thing. I look and see as the baseball team in that city home. It's the first thing I do. This is to tell you, though, how locked in on the NFL Sunday that I was and just finding a bar, which I'd already located some places with Sunday ticket. I didn't even look to see if the Reds were home. Not a big deal. Final home game of the season. Not a particularly good team. I said, oh, who they playing? He goes, well, they're playing the Pirates. And immediately the radar starts going off in my head. I go, there's no way Paul schemes. It's like, I wonder if so I asked the guy, I'm like, who's pitching? He's like, oh, I have no idea. And I was like, okay. So I'm walk, I'm not even off the plane yet. I'm deep planning, MLB.com, Pirates Reds. And they're on my phone. That mustachioed man. Paul schemes is looking me in the face against Hunter Green. Ever heard of them? Just two of the best pitchers in baseball. Come by and fast, well, velocity is over 200 miles an hour. Right. Right. Right then I said, I can't not go. I'm gonna go. So I hit my wife up. I'm like, you have no idea what's happening. Six blocks from my hotel today. I tell her it's schemes on her green and she's like, you got to go. And I'm like, yeah, but I already got these plans to go to the bar. I got football. I got my fantasy lineup. She's like, if you don't go, I'll be disappointed in you because you're going to whine about it for months. So I went there's a lady that knows her husband. Five innings. I only I rolled out when schemes rolled out. Five innings, nine punches, couple of hits, just unbelievable. He was awesome. Saw Hunter Green. He was nasty early. They only let him throw three innings was coming back from an I Elston. But I walked right across the bar to a sports book sat there in the shadows of the ballpark. Watch football all day. I met up with other listeners who had a private room at this place that they had set up with food and drinks. It's just been a wild couple of days. It's been a blast. We got to think everyone involved, but I got to tell you, Danny, it all culminates. The reason we're here, this is a business trip. I hope you brought a sports jacket and a tie. We're not here for titling winks and fun. This is a business trip for a football game to be played tonight. That's right. This is one of those the opportunity we always hear about this. Like when when it's the only game in town, it's the only game on TV, even though tonight there too, but still in it's prime time and there's something special, the mystique of that Monday night football, right? This is one of those opportunities to change the perception. Everybody wants Washington fans have won for years and some of it's justified to be honest with you about the league wide perception about how everybody always picks Washington to be 31st in their power rank before the season starts or this is going to work or this is a failure. A lot of times it doesn't work out, but even when things are good or happening, nobody gives your credit for it. It feels like everybody's against you. You can't get your own players who have been excellent into the hall of fame because the reputation has been so bad. There's a lot of that stuff. Here's how you change the perception. One time when the football and sporting world is watching, not a red zone highlight, not a little bit here and there with the with the seventh team on Fox, this is the country is watching you play football. You don't embarrass yourself. You don't go down their leg. You actually look the part and dare I say, when a football game look good doing it. Be there in prime time and showcase yourself. That's how you build a couple of those. You stack a few. You change the perception of the organization. They're working hard. Locally, we kind of know it's different than it was before. That's obvious, but if you're in, say, Cincinnati, Ohio, you're not really plugged into the latest with Josh Harris and Nick Rails. You're not really that concerned with Adam Peters and Company. That's Washington. You know, they're always a tire fire. Don't be that. Come out and do something special and people start to believe in you. Well, that's one thing that I have noticed being on the road and I forgot this because I have not traveled to games and so long when I was on the beat and I was at every game, but the amount of zoning you deal with, and it's very playful because I will say everybody here has been so nice. Like, it's just really honestly cool to be in a place where everyone just wants to have a conversation and say hello to you, but the ribbing when someone sees commander's gear or Redskins gear or finds out that you're here for the football game, what a laughing stock this organization is to your point around the country. And I knew that already, but it's a little bit jarring. I thought maybe, you know, a year of deposits in the bank without dance night or assaulting or harassing allegedly anybody or losing football games maybe would have done them some good, but they still got some work to do clearly to get their balance sheet totally back to zero. But to that point, one of the ways that you can fix that is just win in football games and competing and actually looking competent. And I was joking about the, you know, watching the Falcons and the Chiefs where we were playing pickleball last night Atlanta lost the game at home to Kansas City. Very respectable performance, right? But just regular football things. Exactly. Yeah, underdog team had the ball laid. If a PI penalty is called, it's a different game, maybe who knows, but you win, you lose all the time as football. Yes, that's not what this team does. This team plays the Eagles and Donovan McNabb has 11 touchdowns or Michael Vick wins the MVP award in one night and they score on an 88 yard touchdown because your safety gets torched after you got into a pregame fight with the guy that torched him. Like it's always so embarrassing and so bad. And over the years, I would say it is trended a little bit more professional in prime time, but only when it is like there are still those Mulligan games you want back like the 56 14 to the Cowboys Thursday night football with the Bears last year was just a curb stomping that was disgusting. There's enough of those still that it's no wonder that people in these other markets laugh about you because the one or two times a year they see you, you're losing by 20. That's my point is there's no hiding here. So that can be good and bad. And my point always, when the schedule comes out and I covetch about prime time games, I don't think we're ready. I don't think that's that was been my feeling for a while, right? I don't think we're ready to show the house yet. It's it's there's still some renovations to be done. There's still some dust and still some great theaters will never be ready. I disagree with that. I'd like I'd like a like six months of good football play first and I go hey now we can do that. Like if I've got a 10 win team on my hands, let's play on prime time and get someone that's just okay. My fascination tonight Danny is twofold along what we're talking about and are we ready as a market is this team ready as a club to just get a little respect. I have two areas of this game where I am just completely fixated. Number one is obviously Jaden Daniels. His first chance on prime time on Monday night on this stage to be a star. Yeah, mega deposit towards rookie of the year type stuff tonight. Absolutely. You go out and you combine for three touchdowns in a win. You take a massive leap toward being the offensive rookie of the year. The discussion about you in the next six, seven weeks is going to benefit from this one night of work over three hours of football, but also just having a guy which they haven't in a long time who is capable of being an equalizer. Denzel Washington style right. Being a fixer just oh everything went bad on that play. Don't worry I just got you 11 because I ran around the corner faster than everybody else. Like maybe this is a coming out party kind of night for Daniels. I'll leave that open as a possibility. The other thing is I am fascinated by the secondary and how they're going to scheme up some way to slow the Bengals wide receivers down. Because if you just line up and cover them you will get torched all night long. There's not a corner in the room Benjamin St. Juice being the best of them that can cover Jamar Chase. There's not a corner in the room probably that could lock up T Higgins although because of his length and size I actually kind of like the St. Juice Higgins match up a little bit. But this has to be a Joe Whit Jr. Dan Quingay. You've got to figure out a way within furrier personnel to not be exploited and taken advantage of and I think that's going to be really really intriguing. Yeah because through the first couple of weeks it hadn't been good in that spot and now on paper you've got you know the best receiving cord that you've played here right. Again who knows what Higgins is going to be without having all the you know sea legs underneath them and you know Jamar Chase hasn't gotten going yet but there's some pelts on the wall there for for Chase where you know he's good and the breakout is coming. They haven't turned in very good work through a couple of games. I'm with you on the under-talented spot but even still you know concoct something so you're not the worst concoct something so that it's just okay or you at least make it somewhat challenging for your opponent who's going to get theirs anyway but it can't be that easy like it's been through a couple of games. You can't have Malik neighbors going you know 10 for 160 were available he did last week and it should have been even more. Find some way to challenge these guys and I don't know what that is. I don't know you know we were talking about this years ago with like the Nationals bullpen when what a couple guys were hurt nobody was effective like no matter who Davey Martinez picks up the phone to ask to warm up it's not a good option. There are no good options right now in that secondary we're arguing this thing where we're trying to find the least bad. Get the ball out of the quarterback's hands. You gotta try that. Yeah exactly. You have them quick game. Seriously do something else because what's what's going on through two games ain't it. He's Danny I'm Grant you're listening to the fan we got Jay Gruden on the show today to break the matchup down at five we'll go around the NFL from week three with him as well and then at six o'clock we'll really dive deep into the X's and the O's with Logan Paulson who's going to stop by ahead of kickoff tonight. It's a Monday night matchup between the commanders and the Bengals. Next let's get into this Washington was the biggest underdog in the entire league in this week of football in this slate of games. Why do you think that is? Why is the line so crooked? Are they that bad or the Bengals that good despite their own two record and what do you think the odds makers the experts so to speak are suggesting with such a lopsided line. We'll get into that next on Grant and Danny here on the fan. Grant and Danny coming your way live on the fan we will be at the Bengals and the commanders in Cincinnati tonight. We're in Lawrenceburg Indiana right now at Thoms Watchbar a sports book at the Hollywood casino friendly accommodations watching Bella the robot deliver food around the bar which we're excited about and we are here thanks to our friends Condoria and Murad they sponsor our show every single day and they brought us with them on the road they'll help you update your last will and testament set up a trust for you your family schedule a free consultation with their estate planning attorneys today by visiting kmlawyers.com be sure to tell them the G&D sent you so that you can get a discount that's kmlawyers.com Danny I mentioned yesterday I landed found out the Reds were playing the pirates and Paul Skeens was pitching so the whole day got audible to go over and watch baseball at Great American ballpark I had not been there since the all-star game in 2015. I think that's when it was about nine years ago just such an immaculate gorgeous ball bar this morning we were surprised by our gracious host and what Seam told us hey we got a little surprise for everyone we're going over to GAB we got a private tour so we went downstairs we went on the field in the dugout walked the whole ballpark saw all the wrist off or it is so nice it was built in 2003 shortest porch in all of baseball in right field they call it Great American Small Park but got a nice history of baseball and Cincinnati as well we were hanging out in the Hall of Fame which outside of Cooperstown they have the most impressive baseball Hall of Fame for any team Daris and I were like sitting in this exhibit where we were calling play-by-play over highlights and we were at a desk doing highlights like we were sports center anchors I mean it was a blast that ballpark is great there's a number of things that are really cool there's a lot of attention to detail a lot of little small things that you wouldn't know unless you knew right the dimensions for example the you know the original field that the the red stockings played on like 115 years ago one of the straightaway left field depths is because of that center field is because of what River River front stadium was and all these little cool little kitschy things the nod to history because there's so much depth and history with this organization in Cincinnati they kind of made sure to take care of that I mean several iterations of great teams you know I of course remember vividly the 1990 team that beat the Oakland A's they were awesome but the big red machine of course and I mean there's all sorts of things that are here for example the last bat that Chula Show Jackson used which looks like a chair leg because it was that the style of the time and the last ball that he hit worth five million dollars millions of dollars at least on open auction are there but just phenomenal man a really really cool tour and that was neat and there's there's so many more thoughtful designs and things that you can do I thought that then that's Park has you know just to kind of compare and contrast it to where it's like for example you're you're in the stadium you go I'm a little hot you know what I'm going to do I'm going to go to this club section that you could just go to not if you have club tickets but you can just pay a little bit and and go to town and and get kind of the same club experience well before we even went into the ballpark yeah there were so many things to do for kids and frankly just families like when you get into the park before the seating in the concourse area with you know slides that kids could go down batting cages and whistle ball field a little errand and you were saying there it's like oh boy now I could see why people say Nat's Park is a little bit basic yeah yeah as a as a stadium guy is Ryan knows me being the stadium guy of the show the resident stadium guy that'd be correct on the program yes it's just I always see these lists where Nat's Park kind of ranks somewhere between say 20 to 20 to 30 and it's always disappointing I'm like I like Nat's Park that's Park's fine now I see why the amount of things that you could do at Great American Ball Park was just unbelievable we were just talking about the Hall of Fame that we went into the guy that was giving us the tour there's probably like I don't know 80 plaques of different Hall of Famers and he's like you guys pick one and we're like Pete Rose he picks Pete Rose Pete Rose's plaque lights up the room dims and then it plays this video around the entire room every player you ever want on the red believable experience and one of the cool things just to jump in on that is they had Reds history obviously because it's a Reds museum but they also had like a jersey of you know Carl Jostremski from the World Series that they you know a game that they lost or they had a an Oakland A's jersey from a World Series that they lost in the in the in the 70s and the Orioles Jersey that they lost in the 70s all these kinds of different things where they go this happened this is the history of the ball club there's some of it's not that great we won plenty obviously the big red machine but we also lost some of these games here are some artifacts from that just stuff like that I just thought was really cool really well done yeah the tour it was outstanding and it was just I'm a ballpark tour mark I've done Wrigley and Fenwen most of those like bigger historical iconic ballparks went to AT&T out in San Francisco but to get to see the behind the scenes was really neat and was particularly funny today was the Reds fired their manager David Bell yesterday yes so their general manager Nick Kroll not to be confused with committee Nick Kroll Nick Kroll who's funny they're not a manager but Nick Kroll was doing a press conference that we walk past we're like all shtick it up and being loud and someone's like shush shush and all the media are asking him questions right next to us because David Bell's next door like packing up his boxes probably in the managerial office where he got fired and one thing I will say is that no member of this show has ever disrupted a baseball press conference that's never happened don't look it up am I bothering you guys bawling you guys am I bawling you bawling you this was the second time in a second market with a second person at the mic yep that that is now happened which is crazy but we'll be sprinkling in some of the fun we're having here in Cincinnati as we go but let's get back to football the commanders and the bangles tonight kickoff is a little under six hours away now at paycore I'm just going to call it Paul Brown because the naming rights thing it's just too hard to keep up with and also it doesn't sound right and it's about me right isn't it or no yeah okay it's about your experience I think for me it's too much like and also there's a company that I'm familiar with called Paycom yeah I don't know who's better I'm not here to tell you about different companies this isn't like a stock market show but I want to call it paycom so bad that's I've heard of that and it's not it so now I can't I just can't do it well actually one more thing on on the stadiums I am jealous of and this I think relates to DC and and you guys back home pretty immensely when we talk all the time about what the next stadium's gonna be and where it's gonna be there is something awesome about something we'll never have in DC which is just everything being next to each other like we go across this bridge from Kentucky into Cincinnati it's actually the first suspension bridge ever built in America interestingly enough we found that out from Bob on our tour that's right uh I think the I think the inventor was a guy named Jim's suspension a lot of people don't know that Bob may have invented it actually he was certainly around God when it got invented Bob Kechel had a shrapnel Bob's not young but damn Bob was so good to us why are you doing Bob is a nice man he really is I'm just saying he remembers when that big bridge it was like I remember I just turned 19 and the bridge uh I will tell you though the one that one bit of shake about Bob I know we have so much talk made the drive across that bridge to his retirement party on its first day I use my Flintstones card to get there but the what was so funny is like the tours happening it's like a bunch of different guys Bob knew he didn't move that fast he did so when he was done talking about the specific thing he was already a hundred feet down the hallway shuffling to the next thing while we looked at knowing that we were going to catch up for the next stop just strategic yeah Bob knew his apartment Bob but anyway uh right there on the banks of the Ohio River I'm going to assume you've got the ballpark and right across basically this nice little park is the Bengal stadium you can hit a golf ball from one to the other with a couple of swings probably and it's just gorgeous it's there's nothing but bars and restaurants and it's really nice downtown vibe people were already starting to tailgate when we left that area today yep at around 11 30 to come out to broadcast they were already setting up shop so just a really cool vibe and something to think about as we get closer to finding out how the commanders are going to align DC for their stadium or wherever it is that they end up but what's your take on why they are such heavy underdogs today and why they've gotten so little chance to actually impress surprise and knock off the Bengals so I think it's a couple of reasons one I think there's a perception because Cincinnati has a pattern of this right where they've started off very poorly and gotten right now it's usually taking them a little bit longer to get right but I think I think you know object makers were pretty encouraged by what Cincinnati put on film this past weekend Kansas City taking the defending Super Bowl champ probably the best team in the NFL are close to it right to the end having a chance to win that game you know PI call goes their way maybe they do right so I think that's a big part of it is Cincinnati now kind of the sleeping giant ready to be one of the contenders one of the powers in the AFC I think the second part is the view of the odds makers whether you agree or disagree but I think this is what they think uh is that what Washington did as progressive as as a growth moment or look how much better they looked in week number two than week number one is fraudulent because the giants are garbage now I know the giants that played well this past weekend so how much does that hold but I think the view was that defensively the giants are so atrocious that they let Washington do an awful lot and that's not going to be the case on a week in week out basis and they don't take Washington who's under talented a lot of spots is really ready to compete with one of the teams that might be a power in the AFC I think that's I think that's the formula yeah I'm going to contradict myself a little bit here actually Danny because I know that what I'm about to say is silly because this is such a week to week matchup driven league that you really shouldn't care that much about what has previously happened like the example is the Broncos in the bucks yesterday that's the one Denver dominated Tampa Bay destroyed and pummeled survivor pools I'll give you uh Vikings even though they've been playing really well great defense darndles balling out o'connells in his bag they're three and oh but they destroyed the Texans there were matchups that got exploited like this is unpredictable and I understand that and you could say well the Bengals what they've done over the first two weeks since T Higgins is not going to be relevant today maybe I just know that in week one as the biggest favorite at home in all the football they laid a complete egg in the Patriots beat them I know that in week two they did some pretty good things they all you know they almost beat the Chiefs so did the Falcons last night who lost two offensive linemen during the game I don't know how good the Chiefs have been so far if that makes sense I know what their record is I know they're three and oh but if you're asking me like on a one to ten scale how impressed am I by the Bengals through two games it's a three you know or two yeah so to just give them that credit of oh well you're going to Cincinnati you mean the place the Patriots just wanted a couple weeks ago with Jacobi Brissette at quarterback you're going narrow you're you got no shot it's not about Washington for me maybe it should be maybe I'm not taking into account enough how bad the commander secondary is and how bad the matchup is for them but it's about the Bengals I just I don't think they've done anything to warrant an endorsement or some big vote of confidence yet that the expectation they haven't yet this year but the expectation seems like this is the night where they have their get right game they're coming out party burrow throws for three bills Higgins goes for 80 chase goes for 120 and if that happens I'll come in tomorrow and be like yeah I'm dumb sorry guys I was wrong and it very well might by the way I'm not saying it can but that is the expectation and I don't know what you've seen so far to think that they're on the precipice of getting it right well again it's different years where they've done this right and I'm agreeing with you this year they have not turned in the work yet okay they have it and I think that's indisable but there are pelts on the wall from years past where they've started off kind of sluggish kind of slow and been a real threat you know the non-borrow injury division right this is an AFC championship caliber team that's done it a couple of times and they you know start off they play much better football as the year progresses a lot of this still I think is also our preseason expectations versus you know reality confirmation bias all those things that usually go into these sorts of deals when a team plays well that we expect to be good we go yeah it's because they're good when a team plays well that we don't think it's good we go it's a fluke or it's weird like we were doing with Tampa Bay after a couple weeks now no one's really sure what to think but we're also jumbled up it's so muddled early on I think this is this is a deference to what since that he has done in previous years with larger the same contingent versus what they've done this year because you're a hundred percent right what they've done this year does not say this is a juggernaut that can't be beat there is something to Higgins maybe being the the key to unlocking the whole thing I want to talk to Logan about this later in the show but it is very obvious that teams have just said Jamar Chase is not you yeah they have doubled him they haven't bracketed him they've sent me you watch it play after play after play he never gets man coverage it's going to be a lot harder to do that tonight with T Higgins now maybe you do that anyway because he's faster and more explosive but if you do then T Higgins should be able to go catch seven eight nine balls at 12 to 15 yards a pop and have you know a big game in his own right so maybe Higgins is just the key to getting the whole thing locked in for Washington why do you guys think they are such big underdogs and what kind of a chance do you give them tonight how do you feel about the commanders as you get ready for Monday night football we'll open up the MGM national harbor listener lines at 800-636-1067 next that's 800-636-1067 on Grant and Danny on the fan we're all taking out our phones like show hey Otani is here she's here ladies and gentlemen Bella the robot is making her way over to us with our food Tommy with a special delivery thank you Bella uh Darris will get a video for us I'll have to post it in a little bit we'll let you know where you could check out Bella the robot who's hanging out with us today at the Hollywood casino here thumbs watch bar in Lawrenceburg we're Grant and Danny you're listed into the fan it's a Monday ahead of Monday night football a burgundy and gold game day presented by rude is your cooling system letting you down score a touchdown with rude and experience pick performance dominate the season with unmatched cooling power and visit ruud.com if it ain't rude it ain't right you heard the Derek Henry highlight coming into the segment before we hit the phones here just wanted to point out yesterday in the division Danny two in one the teams in the NFC East with the loan loss coming by the Dallas Cowboys to the Baltimore Ravens in that game the Cowboys despite a mad scramble to get back into things that was amazing made it a contest 28-25 final they scored the last three uh scores of the game it was 28-6 at one point they gave up 151 to Henry who they chose not to sign and wanted to play in Dallas 87 on the ground of Lamar Jackson they just got ran all over yes they did they got pushed around uh in that one we uh one of the dudes on the strip was friends with uh our buddies Condorion Morad is a a Cowboys fan and uh very nice guy but generally just sort of as the typical inseparable Cowboys fan where every negative play that happens is the end of the world every positive play we're winning the Super Bowl and the wild fluctuations therein but that was a wild ride last night when Dallas got the outside kick and was coming back etc but for 90 percent of that game they were just dominated by a Baltimore team that was 10,000 times more physical the Giants beat the Cleveland Browns actually really I thought beat them in a submission early and then they ended up just hanging on it was a 21-15 final but Malik neighbors is the real deal absolutely loved the guy I'm obsessed with the former LSU Tiger this is Jaden Daniels running mate last year as Daniels had the 50 touchdown four-pick season at LSU neighbors 12 targets eight grabs 78 yards and two touchdowns for the Giants and maybe the luckiest winner certainly in the division and perhaps in football the Eagles stunned the Saints in New Orleans 15 to 12 I say that because New Orleans took the lead with two minutes to play on a Chris Olave a 13-yard touchdown the Eagles on their subsequent drive had a third and 16 and on that play two Saints ran into each other against a mesh concept leaving not that fast Dallas got her to rumble for almost 70 yards he looked real comfortable just flying down the football field set up the game winning touchdown for Saquon Barkley from four yards out with under a minute to go Derek Carr got the ball back through an interception final score 15-12 so the Eagles are two and one the Giants are one and two so are the Cowboys if Washington can beat the Bengals tonight they would be tied with Philly at two and one but they would have the tiebreaker by way of a division win I know you love this bit Danny they would be the first place commanders going into week they would be first place in the division I will tell you that again this is what's so funny about this league is you know that none of the divisions are lining up the way we thought they were as of a few weeks ago I suppose Buffalo being at the top was pretty reasonable but how many people were picking Pittsburgh how many people were picking Seattle to be three and oh and you know San Francisco to be one and two in last place in the NFC West the NFC South New Orleans after that hard luck loss that you just referenced Minnesota's in first place so it is topsy turvey here early on he's Danny I'm Grant you're listening into the fan all right let's get to the phones 806361067 as they come in on tonight's commander's Bengals game we'll start with Carlos in Tacoma Park Los G&D Carlos what do you make of tonight's matchup hey guys it's actually Carlos from sfer to park but it's fine I can play understand um I uh what record does Joe burrow have or this Jamal Chase have for tonight that needs to be broken that could be broken because I was having flashbacks yeah when Drew Brees brought the record in one quarter yeah and uh that's just how I feel but now Carlos are you saying that because we traveled the last time as a show we were on the road for a Monday night game was for that New Orleans game I think that's what he said and they got completely embarrassed their pants pulled down and breeze through for 19 million yards no no I'm I'm saying that because we're just the cousins of the NFL team of NFL teams when it comes to practice I mean but I have a question for Grant somebody for Danny or Danny yesterday night when they revealed the Arthur blank mamua uh you know ring of fame when he was walking out the field and I think you wanted to do some Arthur blank yeah I smelled a bit I'm gonna tip my cap regardless I don't know where he was going with it but uh we got through it I think you're okay Arthur blank got honored last night yeah but he's fine right it's it's embarrassing um everyone should treat it like that but I'll be fine I still have a you know a breakfast this morning uh you know I went on a ball park tour I'm going to the game tonight like I ought to stop my life but I can acknowledge when something is pathetic and ridiculous and that is Bell and the robot showed up you've got your meal I'm set now I am this is not for radio but I am gonna ask you one favor what's that I would love one potato skin oh my god really yeah absolutely not but that's a great question you have five yep with your sandwich yep with your onion rings yep I would like one potato skin please no thank you no problem I'm happy to help top of the hour which commander's player will break out tonight who's going to have a big game you're listening to Grant and Danny we are on the road getting ready for Monday Night Football on the fence. On their defense Singletary has a hole tries to make up some ground and gets another ball comes out as he crossed the first down marker he went one way and the ball went the other way that Washington has it another Benjamin St. Jude's takeaway might be just what the doctor ordered for the commanders tonight welcome back Grant and Danny on the fan Monday Night Football this evening in fact a Monday Night Double header game one chargers excuse me the bills playing host to the Jacksonville Jaguars and in game two Washington at Cincinnati that is why we are in the tri-state area we're staying in Kentucky we're going to the game in Cincinnati and right now we're broadcasting a Tom's watch bar in Indian Indiana Lawrenceburg is where we are at the sports book at the Hollywood casino by the way we're eating and join a lovely meal right now oh it's fantastic these wings are phenomenal they were brought to me I haven't mentioned this yet by a robot a robot brings you your food at this establishment it's like a generation one transformer this is a cool little spot Tommy's found himself a little quarter the universe operating yeah it's very very cool the sports book we're in one of the only books in the tri-state area to feature games on peacock at Amazon uh Amazon Prime ESPN plus they got great food so you're already having I know you're having this because you won't let me have any right the potato skins yeah or what is that chicken sandwich you're working with that is a fried chicken sandwich uh it's got uh they're I forget what the dressing on it is but it's very good little tomato uh there's like a little bit of a hint of kind of like a green pepper sort of relish a little run me a lot kind of a word but like it's fancy words so it's not just a boring fried chicken sandwich it's like she got something to it it's very very good it wants some beer butter on your rings daris and I are all in on attending the football game yeah Danny could probably could be convinced to stay how about a three dollar burger during the game tonight that's that's a little bit of a show that's a bit of a show wings down under a buck as well good situation here at thumbs look at spot watch bar we got to get thaw me on next hour to say hello to the people and to uh chat with real ones no as they say that's right one of the og's of the grant and danny radio program coming up in just a bit here on the fan you heard the benjamin st juiced play being made on the way into the segment though he's an answer to this question pretty clearly phone lines open at eight hundred six three six one oh six seven who do we think breaks out tonight who's going to have a big game for washington so i'm gonna start on the offensive side if it happens i could see this being that no a brown how about this story no a brown also to Ohio state coming back to where he uh his roots he was the highest high his touted recruiting uh member the recruiting class of uh urban miers group that includes multiple nfl players right he could have a huge huge huge game if a lot of attention is being paid underneath the arts and echlear and maklorin and brian robinson in company maybe no brown catches that home run ball maybe he gets loose in the secondary with a little freight train or or a shimmy shingle and getting himself down the football field for a long touchdown i could see no a brown having a big one yeah i could see that as well because we saw at the very end of the second game of the season his season debut going back to uh the home game and the win against the giants now on eight days ago no a brown became the guy that jadon daniels was confident in feeding on those in breakers in the second half the game so why not go back to him with his size especially if the bangles plan like we've seen over the last couple of weeks is to make sure that terry maklorin doesn't get going if you're trying to take him away which i think the giants largely did the only way he was really involved at all was underneath at or around the line of scrimmage behind the line of scrimmage then that means someone should come free and i think no a brown could be that guy right so number one i would say i'm with you on no a brown because i've already seen him start to emerge i'll throw out a bit of a wild card where's the army brown bin we saw him have a couple of nice catches on screens early against the giants set up a first down i think both of his grabs were on the first two drives of the game remember when the army brown was a big thing in the preseason he was the most targeted player that the leader with catches in terms of their first team offense this is a annual tradition now where he has these great training camps he has these impressive pre-seasons we're told this time's going to be different and then the regular season starts and he doesn't really do much there's really no reason for it this year there's nobody that's been blocking him and maybe he gets supplanted by brown on the depth chart but if they're going to line up and spread to help protect their offensive line a little bit to help ID some things for jadon daniel so who knows where pressure is coming from and they're going to screen people to death and throw the ball around the line of scrimmage which daniels has done it about a four to one rate over the average NFL quarterback on targets of wide receivers behind the line of scrimmage how is the army brown not more involved that is something that he does pretty well yeah i think the you already said it i think he's been supplanted already i was looking trying to look up just now what his snap counts were from weeks one to weeks two and my guess is that you know he's now at six to three percent give or take on the field second to guys like mccorn and company but i bet you that's trending downwards where it comes to certain packages and you know maybe three receiver looks of of different kinds of varieties a lot of these guys are interchangeable but don't you agree that with him it takes one play to impact the game i mean he runs a lot of vertical stuff he does like he had the 75 yard touchdown catch in his breakout game that was never replicated again with with Carson wansey and two catches for 30 plus two touchdowns like it he doesn't have to run 40 plays me just do something where are you yeah do you i mean do you i always i mean i joke about this but i sort of think there's some truth to it i think he just has the rep is a deep threat because that's what he did at north carolina i don't know that he's actually that great of a deep threat you know i think they probably think we've got a better version of that because you know obviously you saw him in the preseason win vertically and make that great catch on the on the jadon daniel's audible at the line but i don't know i i don't know that they view him that way like i the analogy i always use and i know people are sick of it if they've ever listened to the show but i forget i was running around the track upstairs during juby's basketball practice and tom penders stopped the practice and said to this one guy i don't know who told you you were a shooter but shooters make shots you're just a guy that takes shots you have to do something else in order to play for me right and that's what i think of where we just say jell me around the deep threat well i know we caught that deep past that time but maybe he's got got to do better it's other stuff maybe it's as a blocker maybe it's as a a guy that you're talking about with some screens or uh some some shorter things got to improve that part of his game to maybe get on the field i don't know just a thought i don't mean to pick on the analogy because i know you know that's not the point but i think it kind of makes my point shooting is not dependent you just shoot and you make the shatter you don't the army brown catching a deep past takes so much and i think that's where it's complicated right yeah of course it is we don't know how often he gets open how often he runs the perfect route how often they should have thrown it to him and they elected not to how often he's been open and was targeted and for whatever reason the ball didn't get there yep how often he wasn't targeted so i think the the questions really good i don't have a good answer for you i think the point though and in all the matters is it doesn't matter if he is or is not a deep threat if he's not catching passes and we could say is he good at it is he not at it maybe he's the best at it when you have done it once ever it doesn't really matter you could be the best at something i want to they have not found a way for that to translate to games but i'm not saying it has to be a home run i just would like to see him do something tonight that benefits them that helps them because again we heard something all off-season you know he had this hour-long youtube that he put out the the open of it is like rick snider talking about him for like 15 seconds and some production team made this like hour-long feature on him there was just so much hype just a couple weeks ago and now a guy who's been here for three hours it was cut by the texans it has moved ahead of him on the depth chart and i'm watching jameson crowder and alamadeza keis you know out target him i just i'm i'm curious where he is uh the running backs have both broken out already so you can't say that they're going to have a bigger night than they have in the case of brian robinson and austin echler anybody else though outside of the two receivers you and i have chosen to say tonight could be the night we've seen almost nothing from ben senate he's mostly been used as a blocker if irks is healthy you know he's going to be featured i think he'll be there leading targeted past catcher their leader and catches probably again tonight that the offense seems to go through him especially down the field but what about somebody else in it or otherwise look macaphere's the name that comes to mind right as a guy that we saw last week hey he's been open a bunch and that's not anecdotal that is according to you know next-gen stats and pro football folks and people that chart these sorts of things i bet you that the really smart folks that that you know are running things here notice that too right whether it was a daniels problem a kingsbury problem whether it was you know a particular pitcher whoever along the line wasn't necessarily saying hey we should target this player and i don't know if daniels mr mate times i don't know if we we won't know right what the director was not the same we have no idea all quarterback's coach we have no idea if it was hey look for this if it's not there do x so we don't know but i think that goes that gets noticed when a guy is winning and doesn't get targeted where you go well maybe we should target him sometimes give him a chance because he is winning he is doing uh what we're asking him to do and we haven't gotten the football yet maybe that's an advantage maybe that's a way to open other things up as well so that could be somebody that goes from having not much to a few targets defensive side of the ball commanders bangles tonight given some thoughts and players that we think have a chance to break out for washington pending this matchup and base maybe on you know who's on the field on the other side of the ball you can call us at eight hundred six three six one oh six seven you want to hop in on the m gm national harbor listener lines it's about time that john alan or deron pain do something now i am not gonna sit here and pretend like they haven't been playing hard and playing well they both got chipped a lot doubled a lot last week it seemed like the plan for the giants was let's not let washington's interior rush beat us let's make their edges get home and mostly cleal and feral despite two sacks through two games has not really mounted much of a pass rush at all both of those sacks were huge plays by pain where the quarterback kind of tried to avoid him and ran into feral haven't noticed on tape valor much jimmy davis wasn't even active last week so clearly the edge has been a problem but i do think it's time and and i don't mean like where you guys add as much as there's a a number that they're going to get to and it's kind of almost like a regression of the mean positively in this case i think it's time that we see a sack for alan or pain or a couple of big time pressures some tfl's like those guys are playing at a decent enough level that being blanked on the statute other than tackles just isn't going to sustain so i would not be surprised at all if they combine tonight like a sack and a half couple tfl's there's only a matter of time before they start to put up some numbers i would agree with that yeah i mean that it's we always think about pass rush in terms of sacks and and you know some of the quantifiable stats we've got now but i always view it as waves crashing on the shore it's not one wave that made the sander road right it's not one wave that that you know got rid of the beach town it's that constant pressure that process of pressure that eventually leads to the good results right and you know there were years and i i point this out all the bleep and time especially when it comes to john alan every metric other than sacks he had a great season end up i think it was two and a half sacks one year and everyone went what's wrong with john alan and i said beat the strum if you replay that season with those same metrics he would have eight or nine sacks and he had nine sacks the following season because that's who he is we're in that with the valley moment right now for him right where he's going to keep crashing on the shore he'll have his two sack game he'll have his one and a half and a tfl and uh you know a pass patted down something like that two bit of a player not to make an impact and they haven't made a statistical counting impact yet both talking about alan and pain i do think that's coming i and i hope it's tonight yeah the metrics you're referencing are like the the precursors right like in baseball if you're not allowed to see someone's home runs the best thing you could probably do is to say okay i want to look at their exit velocity and launch angles they give me a hard hit percentage launch angle everything else and i go i i bet you've entered this dude home how often do you hit a rocket in the air i got a pretty good way now to determine how many home runs you have and i'm not going to get it to the number obviously but you know you can get into vicinity and when you look at alan and pain their pass rush win rates are really good even this year last week the story was man the giants really paid a lot of attention to these guys i don't know if that's an alan or pain thing or if that's an nfl thing i think teams are getting smarter we've talked so much about the changes in the league over the first couple weeks although it did seem like yesterday the things opened up a little numbers got back up with four three hundred yard passors i think we had eight or nine guys go for two fifty or more through the air so that was definitely a more traditional passing weekend around the uh having said that i do think on the other side with like dtackles if i'm a coordinator calling plays i right now i'm probably prioritizing keeping everything clean in front of my quarterback on the interior then the edges because quarterbacks are getting so athletic so many of them can run so many of them can get out of the pocket there's only a few guys that are immobile and you know where they're going to be all the time i can run away from that pressure that comes from the side when you come right at me my first step is backwards now i'm panicking in the pocket and doing my you know breaking down the next thing you know i'm getting swallowed up like a surfer in a wave right i think that's what happened with the giants maybe it's that they just thought allen and pain are so much better than everyone else we got to pay them attention there's probably some of it because that's definitely the strength of washington's defense but i really do think this is something that's going to happen every week it's just the way the league is trending yeah i mean you could you could pick your sport the let's try not to let the best player beat us that's pretty tried and true that's the thing you know we're always trying to look that way so if i'm an offensive coordinator i don't know of john allen and andra and pain are as good as you know you pick decks or lorence or you know what how good erin donald was or a number of those guys and that's not the point the point is they're better than klutland fairl they're better than donte fowler they're better than javante john back piece so that's where i'll focus my attention right if i if i've got to have a plan where i need to caution against something that's who i'm going to take care of first and second one and one a are those two guys once that's done i'll leave someone on an island against john vaptiste i'll leave somewhere an island against jam and davis if he's if he's active right i mean to me this is pretty standard and i do i'm with you i think we're going to expect it all season long we're live all over dc on one o six seven we're live in richmond on a m nine ten fm one o five one of course wherever you're at on the odyssey app and you can stream our show on video even out on the road as we're at thoms watch bar here we are streaming on youtube on the one o six seven the fan youtube channel i'm looking in the youtube chat here first of all somebody loves your shirt danny yes that is the old john alan on the junkies tired of this bleep shirt yes yes it is uh million though on the youtube chat says alan and pain needed this disrupt joe burrow tonight needed disrupt the bangles they just can't keep saying we're getting double teamed find a way there's something to that i agree with that you know like it's a little bit tough guy talk but at the same time like sorry that's what i struggle with though i hate the tough guy routine i hate that stick because it is it's not an excuse it is a reason it is not an excuse it is an explanation they're not tj watt i'm sorry they're not miles Garrett so if your retort is well tj watt miles Garrett get doubled yeah they're the best in the world they win dp oiowards these guys don't they're just pro bowlers they're just pretty good they're just very very solid but i also get that from a fan where you're going hey man i'm sorry about the occasional double team that you deal with as a several million dollar a year player who's the best player on my team but i lose if you can't do more so i need you to find a way to do more yeah and and i don't think the expectation is three sacks a week nobody's saying set an all-time record but you can't have zero like get someone hit a quarterback yeah where's my tip pass like you get double teamed where where are two paws in the air i mean they're on pain one them again last you're doing that thing against atlanta they probably should lose if he doesn't get his right pinky on a football for an interception at the goal line right i mean my point is where is my impact at all i'm with that so i i know again i i can't stand the like the the sentiment behind you might 20 million bucks a year dominate okay i i understand why we're not getting that but at the same time you make 20 million bucks a year man you could do something give me some impact if the point is i'd like to notice you right i'd like to see you change the game on one play doesn't have to be a pick doesn't have to be a sack fumble but you should be able to end a drive with a pressure where you're at burrows feet any rushes any throws an incompletion that doesn't look like a big deal but you force the point like give me one or two of those just be present and make it loud be part of the equation they definitely need those guys to do that tonight jadon daniel's first game in prime time next let's get into what we're expecting from the rookie former Heisman trophy winner last year at lsu as he makes his monday night football debut will predict jadon daniel's stat line next on grant and danny here on the fan i mean special obviously uh be able to play one this early um just coming off my first actual game the first home opener now first monday night game so it's gonna be special but at the end of days another game um he's just playing later on the week it's a good mindset to keep yourself grounded to keep yourself from getting overly anxious if you're jadon daniels welcome back to grant and danny on the fan and dc and enrichment on the odyssey app and streaming via video on the one oh six seven the fan youtube page 23 year old jadon daniels will turn 24 just before christmas game number three for him he comes into this contest danny i love that answer i played my first game yep nervous about that i'm sure then i played my first home game first opportunity to play in front of the home crowd now it's my first monday game there's always going to be first for him he's just got to try it's like a who's your scene man try to tell yourself it's the same game that's a ten foot ram 94 fourth court the whole deal tonight there's going to be a few more eyeballs watching him which is normally meant big things in his career so i'm going to give you his lines in his first two games and i want to try to predict what we think he's going to do tonight in a week one at tampa the big story was how much he ran you'll remember 16 attempts like he was a featured tailback 88 yards and two rushing touchdowns he fumbled three times in that game he threw 17 of 24 through the air 71 184 yards week two against the giants toned down the rushing a little bit 10 carries 44 yards they kept him in check he was 23 of 29 passing they opened things up big time in the second half really the second half i thought he was pretty dynamic there on the football 226 yards he does not have a touchdown on the season hopefully that changes tonight he does not have an interception ideally that doesn't change tonight so let's go category by category here what are you thinking for rushing attempts for jaden daniels i think 10 rushing attempts is the kind of the sweet spot the kind of that magic number i think that's handful of scrambles i think a handful of design hopefully they get rid of some of those power middle type runs for him i'd i'd like those for now ripped right out of the playbook but you know you got maybe you got to do it to keep somebody honest but i think right around that nine or ten rushing total i think is the uh is is the right amount i'm going to take the over tonight sometimes that can be based on a perceived like pass rush matchup i don't like i honestly just think it's a let's show the country who i am kind of vibe let's take off and go let's make some plays i'm going to say he runs the ball 13 times tonight i think we split the difference between the first two games how many rushing yards for jaden daniels this evening 36 i think it's going to be a oh so 10 for 36 is a quiet night i think it's going to be mission critical for since and added and they're not dumb i think they're going to say you are not going to be this that way we're going to challenge you whether it's a spy whether it's coverages whether or not going to have many man looks where guys have their heads turned i think people are going to stay disciplined stay in rush lanes do what the rams a few years ago did to kylo murray which is you stay in the pocket and you beat us from there i think it's a 100 rushing yard night for jaden daniels that would be way different than what i'm saying i am going to say 101 rushing yards on 13 attempts i think he mixes in like a 37 yard run or a 39 yard run or something like that some kind of big play again the only script for me to wash it and stay in the game is him playing some Foo Fighters there goes my hero music grid reference and just starting to sprint all over the yard and i kind of envisioned him doing that as the game goes on so i will say you know we saw him go for 88 three fewer carries maybe 12 to 15 more yards a little more efficiency because i think he will have the longest yard run of his season his long so far has been 17 i think he surpasses that tonight how about on the passing front does he throw his first touchdown the night yes yes he does i think it's a check down whether running back makes a play or maybe it's a little swing pass but it's ekla robins and something like that out there on the flat i think he has one touchdown tonight rushing in one passing i'll say hits zackers in the middle of the field for a nine yard touchdown comes free back in the end zone makes a leaping catch gets his feet in jate and annuals has his first passing touchdown in the league so i'm going one touchdown i will say he also gets intercepted for the first time i think so too and i think he has his first interception tonight how about you i do too i am i am with that because again i the way i see the i'm thinking of a game script right that's how i'm sort of leading these predictions and thoughts is since that he's going to say you are throwing the football this is what's going to happen good bad and different that's that's how we're going to deal with it i think they've got some playmakers on the back end that will take it away whether it's an errant pass whether it's a one of these receivers is an opening tries to shoehorn it in there whether it's something tipped i do think a pick comes today which is normal but i do think it finally happens do you think they're good enough stopping the run to have a bunch of success against washing and doing that because i do think that's what they'd like to do and if you look at it so far this season they've been pretty good in that area they're number six against the run but the chiefs got what they wanted to with pacheco then he got hurt week before that they did a really good job on the patriots and that was a similar plan like it's not going to be the run Jacobi bersettes can have to make some plays and they shut the patriots offense down the big difference to me is bersett actually if you look at that game scrambled around a lot yeah i can't actually there's a lot of room for him to run and that's part of why i like the jade and daniel's lines and hammering some overs on his yardage props which we'll get into when we do the fandold over and under is a little later in the show but for the record they are 18th against the run per play they're sixth overall defensively they're fourth against the pass so the bangles have actually done a much better job against the pass where they're top seven interception rate then they've been against the run i think they know they need to stop the run i just think that's easier said than done when you got to go 11 and 11 account for daniels and kingsbury's getting match up problems with numbers based on how he aligns things how he keeps the defense on the field and spreads you out and then brings you back in with like extra tight ends i kind of think washington's going to be able to run the ball so if if they do it's going to go a lot different than i think right i mean to me this is one of those since that is defense is good enough to take something away i think there's three tiers of defense one great defense that you can barely move the ball against there aren't many of those left two good enough above a threshold where we could take something away and force you into a certain kind of style if you've got answers on both ends then we're screwed then there's that terrible defense and we know something about that here in washington but i think since nadi can come up with a game plan enough and i've got enough forces to be able to go we can play slightly differently knowing we were so good on the back end we'll take you away we'll deal with it if you if you have to drop back and throw the ball they're going to sell out i think uh which they haven't done to this point this year i would have done it against new england week one by the way but who knows how real or fraudulent that result was but i think you could say we're going to make it so that you have to pass on second and third down that that is our plan and if you'd like to run it on those downs you're going to run into a brick wall we're going to stack boxes we're going to be a pan of the butt to take away the thing that we know you like doing and are comfortable doing if you could do something that you're uncomfortable doing and have it proved you've done to this point we'll tip our cap at the end of this one all right so then let's do this you're saying run gets stopped they dare you to throw it he was 17 of 24 against the bucks he was 23 of 29 against the giants you kind of see the formula they want to keep him under 30 passes you're now playing a really good opponent you're heavy underdog you might be trailing by a bunch you might throw it a lot does he throw it over 30 times for the first time i don't think so i don't think we quite get there there's going to be a lot of square peg round hole i see it like a 17 for 28 kind of game for about 155 missed opportunities maybe here and there but i don't see the downhill passing immaterials so 155 by the way would be as low as passing total of the season yes and you also have them losing we haven't given your full prediction but i could just tell from this script you're writing you've got them losing sizeably i would say so what's interesting to me about that from a game script standpoint if you're down by a lot i would think his numbers would be higher just because he's throwing in garbage time you still don't even see the garbage time production yeah i the garbage time against Tampa i think was was just that and you know you count it obviously it's on your stat sheet so you think this looks more like that because yes to be clear the first week their passing offense was horrific for three quarters and Daniels throwing the football i don't mean to say like mechanically was bad i'm not talking about like a miss of terry mcclorn but just generally he there was nothing to their pass off that's kind of good we didn't even really try to throw the football just drop back and ran it you think it'll look more like that than week two in the second half where they actually did find something yeah because i i think that's that's a giant's boost i don't think that's coming this week um so to me this is we're going to try to open it up a little bit because we feel like we've built something and since that is going to feast a little bit more that's where i see the turnovers so i see some pressure that's where i see some you know some confusion and you know more incompletions because he's thrown for what is it 70 some odd uh percentage completion percentage that's not sustainable that's when you actually have some more high risk passing which i think since that is going to try to force you to do they're going to be misses they're going to be tip passes there's going to be uh members the secondary driving on balls and and the like you're not just going to roll through with 75 for the entire season i think this is one of those nights where it dips a little bit so i'm going to say it's 20 for 30 for 210 yards and i think that a good majority of of the production like against the Giants will come later in the game probably but i think it is the most passing attempts because i also think they're going to be chasing the game a little bit and i think he's going to have to you know it's it's a lot of austin echler like to me over and receiving yards for austin echler probably a good bit of brian robinson out of the backfield as well but i like him to end up throwing enough in the second half that the numbers end up being pretty respectable in that 20 for 30 range for about 210 yards but it sounds like neither of us are that different on jayden daniel's other than i'm expecting a much bigger night running the football it sounds like than you are yeah i i just don't see the success i again i i think that big week i think it's going to be more like tampa when it comes to running the ball remember robinson was 12 for 40 we weren't singing anybody's praises then right i don't think he's going to run it that great i'm just saying i think daniels now they will play him differently than they played brisette i guess it's possible they just thought brisette would be uh cinder block footed pocket quarterback but when you watch that game and and maybe i'm just thinking too much about that but i went back this week and watched that first game jacobie brisette would pull the ball down and there would be a lot of space and if they're playing the same things then maybe you don't play as much say man against a guy like jayden daniel's gonna play more zone or something because you don't want to turn and burn with your back to him but against the patriots they really clearly didn't care that much about that and they gave a lot of space that could be exploited yeah i i i do i would say maybe there's a little bit too much weight on on you know a week one result that was stunning and shocking and weird but yeah i understand the point there i mean i look at it this way if i'm a smart coach and i'm looking at washington what's going to kill me it's all things running the football that's what i'm concerned with stopping one two and three that includes jayden daniels that includes brian robinson what echoes in the game it includes him so i'm going to sell out to stop that if they beat me with a group of receivers that i think is among the worst in the league if they beat me with the tight end that there's a catch and fall guy at this point in in zack hurts if they're able to get the football down the field by dropping back in the pocket and picking me apart i'll adjust accordingly i suppose but i'm not confident that i don't think so the same way i'm going to week one jacobie brisette running around like he's uh you know uh early two thousands michael vick isn't on my bingo card it happened and they got beat doing that but it wouldn't like to give up a million points i don't know i i just i just maybe i give enough credit here to since daddy going we've got the access to the same game field everyone else does it's pretty clear what their strength is talking about washington's let's make that hard for them whereas the giants didn't have that card in the bag sure they just have to be able to to execute their plan which is hard to do and they've given up the 29th most yards per game in the nfl it's only been two games but about 160 rushing yards per game at this point for the bangles i'll tell you i think he's going to wreck the game ultimately is is uh Trey Hendrickson who is just ryan carrigan reincarnate yep i don't know if anybody's noticed this he wears 91 he is a big strong defensive end you get to come on say the other thing he he looks like ryan carrigan a little bit in in in kind of like what what do you mean uh like his hair they both uh flex aft okay he's white yeah is that what you want me to say he's a white yes it's okay uh but it's okay to say he just looks exact like no there games are similar this is not a speed rusher i think he has a high motor yes he's sneaky athletic oh now you're doing bits okay which by the way are good bits i'm saving the cap to you but he is dk athletic charay he's a hustle player he just constantly he's a gem rat we say that i'm sure no i mean listen but it it's it's the same kind of rush right it's not like carrigan was never going to be the speed rush champion right he's not doing that that knee bend get around the curve type deal and hendrich has got sort of the same um proclivities grant and danny on standing this is unnecessary tom daily ladies and gentlemen return we're at thumbs watch bar enjoying ourselves and thommie is the manager of this year sports book calling the shots he is also providing great hospitality taking good care of his boys today it has been too long sir yeah some would actually call this place a pen play destination but that's just me being a company man uh first of all thanks to you guys for coming out and joining us in this beautiful illustrious part of the country you know it's weird to see that this room isn't full right now because everybody's lining up to come to lorrisburg indiana but um it's nice to have you guys here and um yeah i mean you live in kentucky david bell right yes that's what we want to do david bell bed inspired it's definitely where we led the show so you live in kentucky yeah but work in indiana i work so when you first told me of like when i was like thomm i think we we should come out and be at thomm's watch bar and you're like by the way that's not the official name it is not i think the general manager of the property would disagree that i'm putting my name on this place it's just called the sports book the sports book which sports right yes v1 um so for you like initially was that jarring i mean the idea yesterday that i walked from my hotel to the reds game in two states it's it's not like a virginia marlin thing i don't know why it's so weird though it's just different it's it feels a lot closer and i was trying to explain it to you when when we were talking and setting this up i was saying look you think it's three states but it's really just like 20 minutes you'll be at you'll be in the ballpark in no time and also there's no traffic here no no traffic every every day 25 minutes it doesn't matter what time you leave it's great and and neighbors that that i live with by the way the neighborhood's a whole nother thing we'll have to get into that like okay you guys got nothing going on like a good thing or a bad thing it's literally like it should be a real housewives like it should be all bad the real housewives of valley shannon but but um but nonetheless um i i forgot what i was saying oh someone quit their job in my neighborhood and was telling me that a 22-minute commute was too long and i cannot work at this place anymore 22 minutes adorable isn't it so i was saying this earlier with daris i take the uber from yum we took our uber from the airport to the hotel and the our uber driver bless her heart she's like guys like she's about to let us know that a pet adopt you know you guys were about to hit some traffic she tapped the brake pad once you know like and we slowed down from cruising speed took about you know 30 45 seconds and cruising speed out here is about 90 miles yeah and then we got that going again it was no problem she sighed a few different times it was so apologetic and i'm like you sweet summer baby you have no idea no idea so how have you enjoyed see you for those of you that are newer to the show yes thom was one of the og grant and danny producers he worked with us on our show for better part pre-covid really up until covid for six years it feels longer about i was with the radio station for 12 years yeah so i i was with you guys most of the time i started off with uh you know over time with bill roland guys are somewhere we did that yeah with uh danny and then i went to livar and dukes and then i was on grant and danny till the end so all the way up till covid and then really it's weird when you think about it because we went months without seeing him and dar who were still working the show in the studio we're in our basements basically he comes out to the Cincinnati tri-state area dar ends up during that same time no longer on the show so it was a huge transition period we haven't seen him since coming out here is awesome to get to catch up with you but you get into the sports book game out here i remember talking right away and you were already enjoying like bedding and stuff i don't know if you guys remembered this about me but i am a degenerate okay i guess i can't say that anymore you used to drive yeah before like yeah hollywood casino and then when um a little i'm not not going to say it but one of the companies got on west virginia and i realized if i go to the mcdonald's in harpers ferry and i sit there as long as i have everything prepared i had it down to like a 35-minute run it took an hour to get there but i could get all my bets in for the entire weekend for 35 minutes so yeah it's so funny that it feels like 30 years ago and so much has changed but i still remember that conversation where thumbs like we're all talking about what bets we would put in he's like yeah i got this this and this and i'm like how did you do that what is that and he's like do you want me to i'm going there on saturday morning yeah every saturday what's your book is that mcdonald's so is a natural transition of sort yeah yeah so it was super easy um i did have a semi-retirement when i first moved out here because we moved out here because my wife got a job and i decided to just not work for about eight months and then my dad had to come out here and have the conversation with me of hey bud i think it's time you go back to work and is that a real thing that happened it's 100% true yeah and and then i i go you know what maybe i should go and do something because all i was doing was just sitting out here in my sweatpants and bedding right because indiana it sounds like an amazing life it was any bad it was an easy transition because then instead of going to west virginia i just had to do the same thing and come to indiana so so then i i was like you know maybe you're right i got a job being an hourly employee literally cooking up bets for people and this was back in the day when ohio and kentucky wasn't open so we were the only game in town for a little while and when that happened that the line was out the door it like it was like max capacity from the soon as soon as we opened up all the way to sunday night football wow so it was just working all day long but then you know you just kind of go up so what's the vibe on the bangles around town right now it just seems like everyone's that the fans are like talk about them like we talk about the commanders they're bummed yeah it's it's exactly the same and and people out here identify with commander's fans because they see the struggle the commander's fans are going through and what they used to go through as the bangles so a lot of it like when i'm wearing the jersey every thursday you know sunday monday you wear the jersey here it's part of the deal and people never say anything negative they're always like hey you'll get there someday don't worry if you can see you're looking burgundy gold today is wrecking or uh wrapping the locals yeah so so it's a lot of the same but you know it's just like what you guys are hearing when the commanders are bad yeah people are just they're owing to it's over but there's no quite confidence given like the recent years where they've started off poorly and then when burrow is healthy now that's an F right but they rip through people they're one of the best teams in the league when things are right well you know how it is people are just they're getting inside of themselves as fans so they're overthinking the jamar chase situation yeah they're overthinking t higgins and they're kind of seeing the writing on the wall of well if we don't get these guys and we don't have anybody coming in it's going to be burrow and zach moss and a couple other people a bunch of wide receivers you can't say their last names but they catch touchdowns every week what's that guy's name with an eye but i can't say it he catches a touchdown every week so yeah i got people just get um discouraged just like uh commander says speaking of discouraged i was discouraged by the fact that in dc we don't have the technology apparently you have out here bella yeah the robot who delivers food what in the hell is that about i don't know it was one of these things where you know um the the family recently grew um my wife and i had a child so i i thought i thought thank you it's father i thought we were going to start there but we had to start with david bill um so i come back and there's just a robot that works here now i was off for three months and then i come back and and it's got eyes and it's got a name and it's delivering and it talks by the way it talks to you tells you when it's coming around the corner but i will say there's a couple foosball tables over here and it did it's bella did her best uh Lawrence Taylor impression we she had a tray full of food and she trucked this foosball table about as fast as you could go i mean you could put a jersey on this thing and it could be middle line getting around the edge a little bit we made it one of those in town for a couple of years we did bury the lead but before we let you go we should say congrats four months yeah now being a mother just about yeah pop a thompe yeah never thought i'd see it i'll tell you there there is a huge grown-up leveling up for thompe it the way he was talking about like the exposure of this and the book does that the overlay is just like just a company man and industry guy he's a dad he's a boss yeah thank you love it dude thriving no longer pressing buttons thompe making it happen in the tri-state area i'm gonna go in tri-state it's a tri-state area and also if you're ever trying to watch the bachelor or any football game there will be a wind warning on your local channels all the time and it's the most frustrating thing they wait till the final rose on the bachelor and they'll go whoa whoa whoa whoa like she'll be standing there thinking about it for an hour right and then it'll be right when she's about to say a name wah wah wah and wind warning okay my house isn't gonna blow over okay you're probably okay what am i what a little pigs over here what a minute to go tonight burrow has the football yeah watch it let's see if you can watch it on on channel nine local on local amazing well thank you for having us this has been awesome and you're taking great care of us we appreciate yeah thanks for coming thank you by the way you could tell he's a radio guy because all the the basics are covered he's got the bucket with the waters he knows what to do we had the hard line set up boom if we can get this uh PA work and we'll be perfect yeah so he's even by the way he's got the old we haven't seen one of these probably this is a pre-covid speaker it's been a minute yeah to blur out to the whole bar so we're gonna have that rock and tomorrow as well awesome ladies and gentlemen our buddy thong that's thoms music unofficially we're calling it thoms watch bar but we're enjoying a day with him at his sports book here at hollywood casino grantin danny on the fan we're taking you up to 630 j grewden at five tonight logan paulson at six the commander is trying to shock the world and sense it at he grantin danny on the fan you want to watch the show we are on youtube on the one oh six seven the fan page streaming live even on the road you want to listen to us on the move if you're out of the area the odyssey app's the best way to do so we are all over dc and the dm via one oh six seven our flagship and we are live in richmond on am nine ten fm one oh five one so you can enjoy the program by all kinds of different platforms we appreciate you guys making the show part of your day we're taking you up to 630 tonight j grewden at five and one hour logan paulson at six and two hours as we get you ready for the bangles hosting the commanders on monday night football quick detour for just a second we have not talked about this yet this will get a lot more time probably come wednesday on the show we have been uh majoring as we should in the commanders ahead of a significant game tonight with the bangles but over the weekend cj abrams was sent to the minor leagues by the washington nationals not because of where he was but because he was out all night long he was seen leaving a casino in chicago at about eight in the morning reportedly the allegation was that he essentially walked out of the casino in the morning and then by way of when you would normally get to a day game one oh five local time game basically went straight to wrigglyfield that became public it was just a tweet that had circulated online nobody really knew if it was true or not everyone kind of forgot about it i think as the game was played the next day you wake up and before first pitch the nationals had demoted cj abrams option him to the minor leagues very very obviously sending a message to the young man abrams himself at 23 years old and to the team to say not in the big leagues what do you want to be how do you want to proceed forward you have a chance to potentially be a superstar but you've had a really poor second half of the season and in this last year now as a club you're staying out all night before we have a day game which is unheard of at the big league level even as guys burn the candle on both ends let's text them with a couple of current players former players and they said look guys go out they have drinks they're even guys on teams that are party pretty hard during the season you will never hear about somebody being out all night long before a day game it just doesn't happen the nationals decided this was a chance to really try to get cj abrams to fall in line yeah there's and some people ask why not just to spend them for a couple of games or or find them or whatever there's cba rules i'm sure in place that has something to do with it but the i think the message here is incredibly clear this is not how a major league or behaves so we're going to take you away the major leagues away from you right this is not what you're supposed to do this is not what a professional is supposed to do and there are team rules about it and you know this is a clear violation we don't know if this was the first time the only time we don't know uh the only thing that's become public as you said is is that one tweet that we now kind of are led to believe that's exactly how it went down and and what happened or something close to that so uh good for the team honestly i mean there have been a number of things that have frustrated me over the years with them as much as i like to be martinez and a lot of people in this organization where some of the same high school level antics on the field i don't mean like temper tantrums guys throwing their helmets i mean guys getting picked off throwing to the wrong base uh you know getting tagged out or some of these cartoonish and buffoonish ways bad news bear style hasn't been fixed so so much you could do with that you know you practice whatever you can kind of fit it in at the start of a road trip or first day home coming back from the road you you work on stuff here and there but it's harder to correct those sorts of things behavioral stuff like this is controllable fixable you know this is being a professional you saw with louise carcia previously where they had a heart to heart with them they said you got a chance to be a second baseman here for a long time you're out of shape this is not okay your behavior away from the field is affecting what happens here this is a similar situation something controllable from aprons and uh they took a pretty hard stance so i i applaud them for it honestly yeah i was a little surprised and it wasn't a lot of people but by how many people vocally told me they didn't like the nationals doing this uh the argument being made was he's a grown-up when you're not at work your employees should have no control over what you do i kind of thought about that a little bit and i said well i'm normally the guy that says let's not compare pro sports to the the real world but if we're going to do that for a second i have a hard time believing that in most jobs if you rolled into work looking feelings smelling like potentially you know allegedly uh the the night before and your performance was not at the level of expectation that your company would do nothing about that now if he was batting 400 since the all-star break and was on his way to you know a second half that was as good as the first half would this have happened over the weekend maybe not you know probably not but i think there is probably a direct link to this happening and the fact that it hasn't gone very well in the second half the season for an ultra talented player i also and i don't know anything specifically but i don't think the nationals would have sent him to the minor leagues if this was a one-off that shocked them where cj abrams who normally does everything exactly how they want and doesn't burn the candle at both ends it isn't out and about carrying on and this was the first time they'd ever heard about him doing something that they went huh we don't love that i'm just going to assume that their immediate response wouldn't have been to send him to the minor leagues my guess is this was perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back where some lifetime achievement award but 14 percent of people 86 percent said that they thought what the nationals did was perfectly fine 14 percent i posted a poll on twitter with about four thousand votes said that they didn't like it that they don't thought it was an overstep by the nationals and i just disagree i i not only agree with what they did i kind of applaud it me too because they have such a young team in a young clubhouse and i remember danny who would it have been when jason worth kind of ran the clubhouse and they had good guys like uh ryan zimmerman but i remember like anthony rhett and don't and some of the young players at that time brice harper getting called up and you would see how jason worth did things and that's kind of how you did things so years after jason worth it was a really unprofessional at times to deal with for you and i as as just media guys had left anthony rhett was still doing some of the same gimmicks he was still doing some of the same bits that jason worth used to do whereas if you come up in a clubhouse where everybody is just a pro and where the the culture is hey the media has a job to do let's be respectful let's not bang things next to them so that their audio doesn't work or you know curse loudly when they're talking to the guy next to me now let's let's do things the right way in a good clubhouse then maybe they would have operated differently and in this case i think if you just see a guy like oh the best player on our team was kind of the face of our franchise even though he's only 23 years old which newsflash maybe this is a note to ownership that you might want to go sign a veteran or two but he goes out at night he parties this is okay no no no the nats are saying absolutely not and i don't think james water dillon cruiser that kind of guy that's going to be out on it anyway but i just think it's an important message for the team and specifically for cj to say dude you have a golden opportunity you're one of the few guys in the sport who has a chance to hit 30 homers and steal 50 bases at the peak of your powers please prioritize baseball and i think that's what they're trying to get through yeah a couple things just to pick you back number one uh it's a team rule so whether you think it's a good rule a bad rule or anything in between it's a team rule so that to me is an on starter for the what he does away from the field is his own business number two it is pro sports and it's kind of a different animal and what i would say and the story that jumped into my mind was years ago there was an incident ended up everyone was okay but remember former then redskins running back evan roister right local guy went to pen state whatever he was involved in something it was nondescript it wasn't that big a deal there were multiple people involved but what was the story redskins running back evan roister among those dot dot dot right sorry with the recognition of being a washington national being a professional baseball player the people pay money to come see there is an extra layer of responsibility that you know the ability of the municipal worker doesn't have that's part of it that's part of the the the the contract if nobody cared you could live in anonymity you could play typically wicks but you make a lot of money playing professional baseball there is no variety and a level of please don't embarrass us to the franchise even away from the field that i think is a perfectly reasonable responsibility or or or ask of a professional athlete right so that's embarrassing for the nationals right they're not having a great season by by woods and losses you and iron i think pretty pleased it ended up on the bottom line but that's my point is the the look is a bad one it looks unprofessional we can't have that we're not the butter jokes we're trying to build something here so a message needed to be said to me this was a mike rizzo move i mean to me this seemed just from an outside looking in that is a rizzo like i'm sure david got a phone call at some point but that's just rizzo it it reeked of do you remember when our buddy shawn kelly was a great guy yep had that terrible game he got brought in when they were down like 20 runs or something and he gave up a three-run home run maybe they were up by a lot i don't remember they were up by bunch yeah i think that's right i think they were up like 19 runs and he gave up a three-run home run it was like 24 to something and he threw his glove or hat down you know like launched it off the mount and he got brought out of the game and immediately the rumor was him and rizzo got into it in the club house yelling at each other and then he was DFA basically the next day if i remember the story about yeah there have been those along the way where that happens or the perception is that brannon kensler leaked something in a story and he's gone this felt like a i don't tolerate this not up here not at the big league level man this is not a ball this is not college baseball this is not we're going to tell you one more time not to do something it just seemed to me like they said you know what i know you're heating up i know you're getting out of your slump he was hitting 417 with an 11 20 ops in the week before they sent him down so this was not performance based by any means and i'm with you on louis carcia you know one year ago 12 months ago he was in triple a after rizzo at that time went on the junkies and said he needs to lose weight he needs to prepare all the stuff he went through so i just think it was they saw the tweet it crossed their desks one way or the other they did their investigation whether that meant going right to aprons and talking to him or trying to who knows if they did they get a camera i don't i don't know if they confirmed how lady was out but i doubt it was just off of a tweet without talking to anybody clearly they put in the legwork found out it happened and then they sent him down and here's how you know how mad they were there's no games to be played it he didn't go down to play in the minor leagues and continue to play baseball the season's over there was one triple a game left so he reported immediately to west palm beach to their facility where we go to spring training so that they could he could just work out with a bunch of minor league guys in the event that like eight nationals get hurt in the next three days and they need reinforcements so his season is over and they basically just said you don't have to go home but you got to get out of here right you this is not what a major league player does so you were not a major leaker that is a as strong a message you can send does not change how i feel long term about aprons same here by the way i love c_j's game really doesn't change how i feel about him in any way even in the short term other than to say it makes me wonder has baseball always been will it be going into the off season like clearly the number one priority is there some perception with the front office maybe that you know he didn't put enough effort and focus into the game throughout the season i don't know but this is going to go one of two ways we're at a crossroads now he is either going to take this slap in the face like a love tap and realize i got a golden opportunity am i going to be a hundred fifty million two hundred million dollar shortstop signing a mega contract i'm only twenty three i was an all-star and i got a great skill set or am i going to be a year-to-year guy because i never max out i'm just pretty good and people have questions about me so if you take this well and you use it as motivation like carciad who came back and had a career year then it's going to be a great thing for him and the team if he goes poorly and he decides they wronged him they made him look bad publicly it could spoil a relationship that we're all hoping continues with an extension so this is a real crossroads moment for him in his career i think hundred percent correct about that grant i think that's very well said there you know i understand how we got here too by the way because i i think you said it very well and i would echo that it doesn't change how long-term i feel about cj aprons or even right now how i feel uh this is a mistake that's that's what this is if you at handed me in my early 20s the keys to a major league franchise i've already been an all-star i'm the face of this thing and everybody's taken my picture and i'm sounding autographs and kids are telling me how great i am and you know everybody's coming to see me and cheering i might make some bad decisions my head might be a little bit full i might think that this can never go away or that i've already arrived or or or i've done it you might have one of these moments right where you make a poor decision uh which it seems like cj aprons did i don't know how habitual it is or is not you i've heard rumors like everybody else i just would say this this is an opportunity it's going to be he's gonna be mad and be frustrated be ticked off for a little while that's good now what are you going to do about it right you got punched in the nose this is your chance to either come back stronger and have this be remember that moment remember that that crossroads moment or it can be the thing that derails you he's danny i'm grant you're listening to the fan we are broadcasting live in the tri-state area near since an adi today where we're going to the commanders in the bangles tonight we're heading out of here in about two hours game time is about four hours away we're excited four football and we want to start diving into this match up in more detail so let's do that next we will pull up the projections over under totals individually and statistically props for players and we're going to jump on one side or the other play a little commanders over under next on g and d welcome back to grant and danny on the fan where we are broadcasting live ahead of monday night football we're in lorence berg indiana at the sports book hollywood casino if you check out the game if you're in the tri-state area enjoy their sports options all football season long excellent food delivered by a robot i'm looking at it right now more importantly if you are here you got to come tell our guy thami who runs this year's sports book that uh you are listeners the grant and radio program by the way throughout all of their prime time monday football games all year long three dollars for burgers during games and one dollar wings so i don't know if i find myself back and since tonight of this football season but if i do it's always worth it just to come yeah exactly for that uh pretty good but we are enjoying the hospitality here jay groody's on the show at five coming up and a half hour logan paulson stops by at six coming up in 90 minutes on the fan but we'll bring producer daris dameron into the fold because as we do each and every week before football games we're going to go through some of the individual player props play a little over under the way this normally works is daris gives us the projected line for each player danny says they're going to go under that if they're a commander and i often uh go on either side of the fence and uh that's kind of how the segment works that is pretty clear that's pretty much how it goes uh i go over rushing yards from stuff i just said nothing's changed no well i mean i i get most of them right but i i go over and rushing yards uh for this rushing offense but under and throwing yards and again i just hit every one of them with that said dad let's start with the quarterbacks how about it quarter by jaden daniels they have the over underset at 194 and a half passing yards over under boys so we predicted his line earlier today i had him at 210 i liked it i'm kind of in line with the experts on this in a sense i think there's some garbage time production is there down i'm looking at a backdoor cover in this game 20 of 30 for 210 little over seven yards per attempt is what i'm envisioning so i will go over that 190 and change as an under it'd be around 155 160 today i think it'll be a struggle telling the football let's uh let's go to the other quarterback the quarterback on the other side over former former pro bullet joe burrow they have it said a 261 and a half does joe burrow play quarterback in the NFL he does easy playing washington's defense he is the answer is over this is an over situation they can't cover me let alone good players this is an over last week forget baker may feel look like baker manning four touchdowns no picks in week one through for nearly 300 yards mike evance chris godwin got off and then last week with the giants malike neighbors went ham sandwich and he's really really good you give him 16 targets he's gonna make you look bad but daniel jones had one of those get right games yes he did that we're familiar with against washington i think he goes over as well t hiccans is back jamaar chase has been whisper quiet library level volume for him i just don't see how this benjamin st jusled secondary finds the answer to shut those guys down now i will say this is big this is huge oh we don't know if a manual forbs is gonna play or not but he is questionable at this point he certainly is and he's got an injury come on and have a good time and manual forbs does play in this game it changes absolutely nothing as far as i'm concerned as far as washington secondary so that's an over for joey burrow let's continue with the passing game but we're gonna go to the receiving side believe there's a guy that we call wide receiver one his name's terry mccorn he hasn't done much so far but they have his prop set at 51 and a half what do we do our over or under i'm going to say over that since nanny's defense is fine i don't know that their pass rush is going to be great i think and they're going to get three four five sacks whatever but it's not going to be constant harassment it's not like jade daniels will never have time i think henryson will have a couple of sacks i think terry has one of those volume games where it's not a lot of yards which is kind of now what it's been the last couple years but i'll say like seven catches for 59 yards or something like that and he goes over that number how many weeks in a row if you're cliff kingsburg you want to be asked why is terry mcclorin not making more plays why isn't he involved last week everything they threw him was behind the line of scrimmage essentially other than one slant they got to push the ball down the field hell if he catches one ball for like 24 yards on a just a dig in that'll be a season high well not only that but my point is you're halfway to the number so i'm going to go over uh under i do think he goes past his season total in receiving yards which is 39 through two games oh my god to that is my uh quick side i think he goes for about 45 yards i think it's a seven catch 45 yard day for mcclorin for reference the bingles passing game through two weeks is ranked number one only allowing 128 and a half yards per game but of course they did play new england they did that kind of helps uh let's continue with the commander's receiving core zakerts 24 and a half receiving yards over i like to slide over here i think he catches and falls four passes for 32 yards gave me the over for urchts so i hammer this over the mcclorin over i don't feel as nearly as good about as this like i would say terry mcclorin going over i'm leaning that way i wouldn't put money on it urchts this is actually a bet i'll make going into the game he is their number one guy in the passing game it goes through him especially in the middle of the field in that 15 to 20 range he's the only guy daniel says throwing the ball downfield to at all maybe the other thing close to a downfield throw would have been the end of game in route that dig to know a brown but where there was just nobody defending him but otherwise throwing the ball 15 plus 20 yards downfield it's been urchts twice in two games that's it so this isn't over big time for your boy since there's no other receivers that catch passes for the commanders let's do the running backs receiving props got brian robinson over under 11 and a half receiving yards over easy over for me they keep doing this they keep setting it at these tiny paltry totals this is who was going to be catching passes brian robinson austin echler these are the overs this is what i've hit each of the first two weeks i will hit it again in week number three brian robinson will catch two screens for 14 15 yards this is another over i'll say over at this point i think my answer is going to be over on their running back receiving yards every single week um and eventually you know that's not how you win all your bets i just don't see a formula where they don't get those catches it's going to happen but every single week going into the game to me their best path forward one of the things they're going to try to do one of the things jadon daniels is going to be successful at will be getting the ball to echler robinson by design or just checking it down so over for him and i feel even better about an echler over and receiving yards i don't know what that total is well echler's total would be set at 18 and a half so i think we're feeling good about that all around yeah so to me a parlay on irks over 25 and echler over 19 is winter winter chicken dinner that's where your boys feeling really good danny 19 echler oh well over this is an easy one sorry i uh i chimed in earlier and was like that's an easy one that's an over this is what's happening they're throwing the running backs those running backs will go over those totals uh i'm getting late breaking news here there is another receiver prop no we're brown he has a prop set at 18 and a half what do we think that's a trickier one i'm going to say over because that's that's a comically low total i do think he catches three passes for you know 35 yards somewhere in there over for sure uh and i've gone with a lot of overs i'm noticing yeah you're predicting them to win offensive explosion i'm not predicting them to win obviously or to explode on offense only 210 yards but i guess if terry gets 60 and irks gets 50 110 and i've got over for the running backs let's say echler has 41 50 robinson has 30 25 so this all plays out i mean there's no one else that catches passes that's true so i'll say over for no a brown with all the respect yummy brown under uh with all the respect to alamities a quiese under these are the guys that will go over let's try the bingles receivers here they have jamar chase at 79 and a half over this is a first half over he will blow past that total they have no one that can cover him uh he has struggled through two games he will not struggle through three games he's going to have a monster monster energy drink evening 79 and a hook 79 and a hook jamar chase 35 yards last week against the chief 62 yards in week one against the patriots that is a big jump i'll say over as well i think t higgins gets them going higgins being back means you can't bracket and double them all right let's move our way over to the rushing props jane daniels they have this rushing prop set at 48 and a half as a big time over i got him going for twice that tonight under for me i think since nanny's gonna be concerned about it uh and try to limit it and they will be successful doing so i think he runs for right around 35 40 yards since nanny's 31st ranked rushing defense will they be able to stop brian robinson who has a prop set at 55 and a half rushing yards i will oddly say under on this i think part of the reason why i'm going so heavy on the jane daniels rushing is the bingles load up this means that he can't rip anything off he had two 30 plusters last week remember first two of his career at a 40 plus yard run as well we don't see him do that very often i think it's like you know 14 for 46 or something like that and it's the jane daniel show i like a slight under there that's right around the total so it's funny that these professional people that do this for a living have this is right around the number but i thought he'd be just over 50 yards so i'm going to say a slight under here because i think that's the focal point for Cincinnati pardon me that was the 29th ranked rush defense for the bingles uh it'll be 18 and a half rushing yards for austin echler is the prop over again uh he's good people keep sleeping on this austin echler is going to get uh receiving yards and rush yards he'll be over on both counts i will say under on echler and it's basically based on usage i don't have a whole lot of reason to think they're gonna give him many carries i could see it being a three or four carry game for him so i'll say under i think they want to throw them the football for sure but they haven't really shown much of an inclination to involve him with any heavy duty workload on the ground and the bingles have the 31st ranked rushing offense they have zach moss set for 48 and a half rushing yard prop i like the under on that one uh washington when they put their mind to it can actually do decent job against running backs look at week number one held rishad right uh in check in the running game book yerven was more comfortable but anyway rishad right didn't run at grade i think they'll do okay against zach moss and company but they will be shredded by the passing game over they're going to try to compensate for a lack of talent on the back end and try to drop some dbs to help confuse joe burrow and zone him up and i think they get chewed up on the ground with some light boxes as the game goes on plus game script tells me bangles i have the lead he'll get to pound the football so he'll go over that all right that'll do it worse we love it that is a little over or in danny's case under under as it were commander's projections for week three and monday night football against the bangles you're listening to the fan we're taking you up to kick off tonight we got a pregame show when we are done next what will we be saying if washington stuns since an adi what are we going to be saying if they lose and they're sitting at one and two going into next week at arizona this is gnd now i haven't talked on recently um you know i wish him nothing but the best and his success um over insistent adi what he's done so far um what he did for the state of louisiana um so it's big for the whole state of louisiana see both of us um go up against each other on monday night that's jadon daniel's who is ready for his monday night spotlight tonight against joe burrow just a couple of guys who are l_s_u_ tiger high trophy winning elite quarterbacks over the last handful of years the hundred tuddies combined between those guys i know that the biggest reason why the commanders get the monday night spotlight this early in the season is daniels but i gotta think that was the whole idea right it's the just the l_s_u_ bowl the mirror of of seeing this is a one of the great programs in america where the two great quarterbacks have come out of over the last few seasons burrow in some ways whether it was director indirect a mentor of jadon daniels in that sense that's going to be the angle on the broadcast it's got to be what led to this matchup tonight we were driving around today in fact we were we were passing paul brown paycore stadium on one of the bridges downtown in the tri-state area and we're like man how weird is it that washington was chosen to be on monday night football in week three so that people could see them it's such a jadon daniel's thing it's it's a win for them from that perspective but this really is daniels and burrow from a national selling point without a doubt and you can see it right i mean the the and it was from with a different network now but the tom run all these style pregame uh... you know peace right itself here where it's like two different stories two different journeys one destination and then it's like you know highlights intermenal intermingled and everybody's story both guys had to transfer both guys were you know burrow's case was beaten up by somebody else at a different school it took uh... you know second chance to thrive and here they are both Heisman trophy winning quarterback's attorneys more couple of the great college seasons over the last hundred years for the l_s_ you tigers so and here they are meeting on monday night kind of the guy that's done it a pretty damn high level over a few years in the NFL and burrow working back from injury obviously hasn't quite it is uh... strudges yet and a dude that's hoping to walk in his footsteps what will people back home in d_c_ be saying tomorrow when we land if they beat the bangles as opposed to if the commanders lose maybe we could get into whether it matters how they lose if the expectation plays out tonight but we're gonna be at the game in the stadium there are die-hard fans that will get the immediate temperature of right as things are happening where in their burgundy and gold on the road tonight but i want to dive into like the difference in how this team will be viewed so if they win and at that point you're two in one with a shocker of a victory not only because the bangles are better than you you're a huge underdog but it was a prime-time game where over the years it hasn't gone very well i think it's almost regardless of how jadon daniel's plays assuming he's healthy for all four quarters in a win it's the beginning of a celebration in town about daniel's baby first and second nationally the drum starting to be beaten often the distance of him is the rookie of the year like that's where we're gonna start getting the the phrase that comes to mind is it really is different it's not just part-time different it's not just lip service different it's not just hey we're doing a new thing this year where we're trying this out we're gonna take care of customers no no the tide is turning it's a real difference it doesn't mean super bowl this year doesn't mean any crazy you know a lot of the uh the god bless them the crazy fans will just simply say you know the instant they get a first down that this is the year but it just means that you're no longer the embarrassment you're no longer the investigation team you're no longer the the owner of the leg of the committing the crimes team or whatever you're longer the the punching bag of the nfl you are now one of the people that belongs it counts the whole country saw you play well the tide is turning and it's real because a we have a general manager we have an ownership group that gets it and is actively trying to make this hell hole better and you have a quarterback which is again a for real thing and really the the whole way it's the key to being one of these relevant football teams not just for a week or a month but for a while it's big because it changes my eye line of the team yeah how good do i think this team is how capable are they not only in winning any one individual game but just achieving as the year goes on it changes the whole game for me in that regard like specific to um next week at Arizona they're four and a half point dogs on the look ahead line you beat the bangles hey that's going to change that line is going to tighten but i i think why why can't you go to Arizona and beat a cardinals team that just lost to Detroit fairly handily this past week at home i think the same thing about uh the browns game right now that feels like maybe the browns will be favored by a pointer to even in landover maryland but you beat Cincinnati the better team in that division that's going to whoop up on the browns this year and i'm going oh why shouldn't you be expected to win that i think a victory over the bangles you're ahead of schedule i had yet one and two at best some people may have had you know in three you're two and one now you start to say they're going to hit the over on any win projection this year this is not a five six and a half some jeopardy right this isn't a five six win team this is a seven eight win team now you're another win away from starting to dream on nine and competing for the wild card so people will get ahead of themselves more than we should because it's so early but i went over a bangles team that a lot of people think can play for an AFC championship game this year under the lights with everybody watching it just i think it it it is a announcement that you have arrived in a sense as like not being terrible it is a absolutely way to to send the message we're not a pushover this year and this would be the way to do it tonight hundred percent and the opportunity is there it's always there in these prime time games and again washington's come up beyond small such as like they've lost a prime time game it's always something that you've never seen before the greatest offensive game in bears history uh numbers approximate occurs on thursday night football at your expense when the whole country's watching on prime it's it's been the story you know them all you know the embarrassments we don't no need to run through them but those are the things that leave those lasting perceptions for so many fans across the country for us it's another game another loss you're you guys are watching all 17 of them uh as as fans of the club so they don't stick out in the same way to you right but to the country it's like the one glimpse you get at somebody and this is the foible this is the whooply daisy that your experience yeah it's going to leave a mark i think so you change those kinds of perceptions with big-time performances in a game like tonight flip side is i just don't think there's a ton on the line if you lose competitively or just lose respectfully you know if you're if you put forth a respectable effort and our solid in a loss there's really nothing going home that i feel different about you're not really supposed to win it's one of those games there's a lot to be gained there's not a whole lot to lose as long as it's not awful and if it's awful then you feel like it's a little bit of the same old nonsense kind of going back to week one with Tampa that wasn't that long ago how embarrassing and frankly just like disappointing that game was where it just left that awful taste in your mouth if they play really bad they turn the ball over they can't throw the ball um they they give up five sacks you know joe burrow throws for 350 and both receivers go for a hundred and they give up 40 points or whatever then you beat the Giants who aren't any good this is going to be a really long year and we are a long long ways in this town from being able to talk about this team through any lens of wild card right i think that is the reaction fair or not if you lay another egg for the second time in three weeks against a decent team yeah to me it's the egg laying part right i i think how matters a ton for hell i'll view it certainly i think and a lot of fans too right i mean what what a lot of people have said whether it's with their behavior a.k. buying stuff or buying in watching talking to us whatever you get this five there's a lot of wait and see right we we've been promised different people have made the promises but we've been promised how different things are going to be a billion times before and so far you had as you said one pretty embarrassing opening after a lot of off season hype and you beat the Giants without scoring a touchdown it's not as if this has been you know uh some sort of saints like renaissance where you score 45 points a week just killing people through a couple of games you know and there's a feeling of yeah they're not ready yet it's not a particular good team and i'll let you know when i believe in them again well this is how you build belief this is how you build the engagement with a fan base right you you show well even if you don't win the embarrassment part just it makes people check out it makes people disinterested it's not fun you know if you're in a competitive game and you lose shirts thinks it's it's annoying and you hate losing just because you're your fan of sports but you could there's some takeaways there are things to build on when you get destroyed like they did in week one what are we building on you know like what was the day yeah the defense sure as hell can't stop anybody in the offense couldn't pass for three quarters all right so you guys next week that's not exciting so how it happens tonight when lose or draw i think is enormous just again building some credibility let's talk game script with jagrudon next it may be a formula for washington to try to win this game against insonaddy can they replicate new england's plan controlling the football taking the air out of the ball by running a lot of plays long time of possession drives not turning the football over those types of kind of boring but effective strategies we'll talk to jagrudon next logan paulson just over an hour from now on grant and danny burgundy and gold game day presented by rude is your cooling system letting you down score a touchdown with rude and experience peak performance dominate the season with unmatched cooling power and visit ruud.com if it ain't rude it ain't right it's monday night football three hours 20 or so minutes from right now the ball will be kicked in the air and since sennady or the bangles and the commanders are playing we will be there in paul brown stadium now pay core stadium which is beautiful on the water downtown ohio river right across from great american ball park we're broadcasting live right now from lorence berg and indiana visiting our old friend thami they've got a great watch bar and situation here i want to tell you about some of the foods we've been eating in just a few minutes but one of the guys who gave us some solid wrecks when we came out to sennady was our friend jay grewden who joins us now on the bet ql guest hotline on air and on the roj grewden is driven by the temperate automotor group temperate ford and shantillion fairfax you have one fifty headquarters tedbridge in tilly lincoln and tedbridge everland sterling home of tedbert for life lifetime vehicle coverage see and shop them all at tedbert.com jay this place is pretty cool man we uh we're staying in coventon kentucky right across the bridge from the stadium so we walked across yesterday i went to great american uh we actually got a ball park tour this morning and then uh we're getting ready to go to the game tonight but you were here calling plays in this stadium not long ago pretty amazing environment down on the river on game night yeah it's changed a lot it's grown significantly they've done a lot to it down there and it's all for the better it's a great area down there great people a lot of great places to live in sennady too it's kind of spread out you can pick your uh pick whatever type of environment you want and they got something for everybody it's a good family place too big picture tonight jay since that he's obviously pretty hungry 0 and 2 probably should have won last week could he still be one in one what are you expecting from them and and how do you think washington will respond yes they're gonna be tough you know they get uh t higgins back which is huge they did lose a couple defense alignments they're gonna have to do something to stop the run a little bit uh i think that's gonna be the biggest challenge for sennady against washington washington washington a good job running a football gets a very good front for the giant saw the giants didn't the browns yesterday uh so i i expect the washington to run the ball and and try to do what they did last week against the giant that's heat up the clock keep the ball and keep burrow off the field i think that's going to be the key to the game yeah the 29th ranked run defense in terms of yards per game yards per play i think which is maybe a better metric they're 18th or so for senns and sennady but it certainly hasn't been a strength early on so how do you expect washington to try to exploit that on the ground uh very similar the way i've done it you know use formations and then you know if they try to load the box and they'll flip it outside to some uh receiver screens and get positive plays and and just maintain possession of the ball and uh hopefully uh when they do come up maybe get some big plays in the corner tonight let's see him get a couple shots behind the defense and make some big plays but the most part jw patient run when he has to run possessive football and good things will happen jays as a play caller there's that it's you know it's well one part science one part artistry feel and you know there's a million things that go into calling the perfect play at the perfect time you mentioned that occasional shot or something to mccorn i missed one in week number one uh you know overthrow which happens it's the league but when do you feel like there's that right sense go into that description right where you go now's the time i feel it and they're not thinking about it now i'm going to take that shot see if we can hit that home run when is that feeling come yeah it really comes early um you know if you have some success on first down you know run in the football then you might want to take a shot the next first down you get um but yeah it's just a feel for it and i know that they scripted some plays and practice some plays practice some plays early in the week and later in the week and they feel good about three or four shot plays that they want to get off the script but you've got to be patient make sure he sticks with the plan early then pull out some of the humdangers uh early later in the first quarter early in the second quarter make some big plays jay gruden on grant and danny here on the fan one of the things that has come up in town is what is terry mcclaurin really and it's not that anyone's trying to knock him he's a really good football player but danny now we're talking about a week ago yes he needs to be more involved and there's a lot of meat on the bone still that hasn't really been eaten on that front but there was a time a few years ago where i think the consensus was he was a top 15ish wide receiver in football and if you go through the list now it's more like top 25ish i mean is that because of usage lack of production because of bad quarterback play or like where are you on terry as a player it would seem to me he's a guy that boxes dudes out plays bigger than he is makes contested catches but it's not that often he's not like malike neighbors when i watch him like it's not that kind of receiver yeah he's an explosive guy he needs to get the ball of the fans he can run after the catch he can do a lot of different things he's good uh tracking the ball adjustment of the ball making the tough catch he can do a lot of things he's been he's been kind of worn down with a couple quarterbacks are not starting to league anymore last couple years and he's had different coordinators he had a new coordinator now he's got a rookie quarterback now a coordinator trying to find his way with the offense and trying to make it simple for a young quarterback and that's sometimes the more simple you get makes it hard for a marquee receiver to move around and get the looks that he needs to get so yeah i think uh they're trying to just bring jade along at a slow pace and that's gonna inhibit terry a little bit from his usage as far as getting shallow crosses and slants and getting messed up but it's a number two receiver and trips or moving around him or maybe that's just not like cliff karen king's various beliefs he doesn't he believes in leaving a guy in one side of the field and working on that way so a lot of variables go into getting a star receiver the touches and uh unfortunately for terry he hasn't had a good quarterback play and now he's got a rookie quarterback and a rookie uh a play caller call in place for a rookie quarterback trying to make it easy so it's tough for a receiver to get his looks but that's to be clear that i think that's probably it's good to hear for a lot of people you evaluate him as like a legitimate weapon in a like an x you think he's on that pier type level where the passing game can go through him oh yeah for sure for sure and i think he can do a lot more than just play x you know terry or a pier like to be on the ball all the time he didn't like to be off the ball and motion around and doing all that stuff he like to be on the ball as an x and work to go balls in the slants and the curls and all that stuff and the daggers uh terry i think is good enough and smart enough and has football savvy enough to do more you know you know to put him at number two and number three in trips in motion and put him in bunches outside or inside at the point uh whatever it might be in stack formations and that's where terry's really good because he's got good feel for the games get good knowledge he's explosive once he gets a ball in the fans i think he's a very good runner after the catch and like i said before he can have he has a speed to take the top off which you know so i don't really know what his weakness is if you have one let me know what it is well what were your favorite ways of jig gruden with the share i'm great and danny what were your favorite ways if you look up and go my favorite target whoever that happened to be over your years in both sense of that edc otherwise where you go he hasn't gotten going yet what were your favorite ways to get him going i want to be a quick screen right away you know what i mean or you know other other ways you can line them up in stacks and let somebody think top up one more time choice route and option route where you can usually read zone or man and break it off in man or hook it up in zone or break it in it's about five leverage and read leverages those are always easy ways to get in the ball and and be a number two in trip sometimes a good spot to be because if they press number two you can get them on the stomp fades we used to call it you get them on the quick slants with number three running the shallow cross there's a lot of good ways to get uh mark he player of the ball we had aj he had almost 1400 yards by last year with him and obviously the shawn we took our shots with the shawn jordan reed as our main receiver there when he was healthy and obviously want to look for crowder and and Pierre so uh you know there's a lot of times you want the covers to dictate where the balls goes but if you have pure progression type plays you have a mark he receiver you want your best receiver to be progression number one you know sometimes he won't get it if you get progression number one not to go for progression two or three or whatever but you got to get him in this situation where the quarterbacks go look at him first covers takes it away then they'll go off of them but try to get him some looks j grudin with us on grant and danny on the fan we're creeping up on three hours from kick off ahead of monday night football we'll take you up to six thirty tonight and then pre-game right here on the fan so no reason to navigate away from g and d as we get closer and closer to football what about on the flip side with washington on the field defensively it is a petrifying thought to think about this secondary which has had no answers with chase who's ready to break out presumably higgins who's coming back and joe burrow slinging it how would you even begin to try to put together the plan to allow the bangles offense to to not get going through the air yeah i think i would feature a lot of uh too high safeties for milk hyper just to piss him off you know what i mean and make sure for check the goddamn ball down and try to get the pass rush try to get your hands up the balls and then when he does check it down let's come up and be physical and try to get the ball out i don't know if they can play single high covers and play a lot of man-to-man i don't know who's gonna match up with t i don't know who's gonna match up at your bar shouldn't that be a big exact moss game then to j sorry to cut you off but yeah i mean isn't that what we're seeing around the league like if they if they play deep and make milk hyper mat that's where the run game is coming from around the league right now right hundred percent but the bangles have not had a very good run game you know that moss or moss only had like 12 carriers for 30 yards last week you know so it's not like they're uh they're jugging out of running the football between the tackles and i think johnson alan and drawn pain and armstrong they got to step up in feral they have to step up to stop the run with white boxes and i think they have the ability to do that you got bobby wagner who can also play the run pretty well so i think they have the ability to stop the run with white box they didn't do it last week against single terry but i think they can do it they just got to move the front a little bit on some defensive lineman get these guys and disrupt the this is rough the running lanes and force bro to throw on third down and hopefully get some pressure because uh i don't think i don't think washington cover the bangle receivers and single high coverage man-to-man situations jay go go deep into what you've seen from joe burrow so far this year we know when he's right he's one of the best in the game but is he right uh yeah i mean you played better last week obviously the first week is you know i don't know what it is with the bangles are starting out as slow as they do i last year they scored zero points i think and they're too talented offensively to start out like that i don't know if it's a lack of three season work you know last year burrow had the calf and this year maybe he didn't get as many reps as you would like maybe a new offensive lineman working together to get a new right tackle i don't know what it is but they're way too talented uh to have a quarterback who's counted as joe burrow to start out as slow as they are i can't put my finger on it but i imagine um we're going to start putting the pedal to the metal starting right yeah think about this jay these numbers to back up what you just said are pretty crazy so five years of the burrow era for the bangles they've been 0 and 2 four times in those five years that's a really good football team most of that time obviously in week three is kind of traditionally when they've got it together uh in those games they're three oh and one burrow jumps up to 255 passing yards with eight touchdowns two picks a rating of about 97 so like this has been the week almost throughout the entire zach taylor experience where they've started playing football which is fairly inexplicable and strange but there is a trend here i guess yeah it really is and i i can't put my finger on it because they're running the same stuff i think training camp and things that joe burrow's liked over the years the more uh time joe burrow puts in in this offense the more place he's going to call that he likes especially early in the season so it is a head scratcher for me i wish i could have the expert piece to tell you why they struggled so badly in the first two games the last four or five years but i don't but i do know they have a good football team and now that higgins is back and chase is back at full strength and obviously zach moss and chase brown or another goseki he had a good game last week so if they have the weapons for them so we'll see if they can do it but they but they can't do a lot if they're on the bench if that's why washington needs the main fan possession run the ball like they did last week at the giant totally uh you you mentioned higgins a couple times go through like the actual schematics of what he changes by being back for taylor and just another option you know a lot of times if you play for instance a coverage quarter quarter half you want a half usually you play the half sides that your best players not going to play the quarter side to t higgins he can destroy corners he's physical um he can do the jump balls uh obviously the the 50-50 balls he's he's awesome mat he's good after the catch so yeah now it just opens up the whole field now you want to play cover two out opens it up for goseki and you're running back to have a back shield up to run on the ball or check down uh open the middle field for those guys so they have ways to get after you um most teams have one good corner that can match them up with jamaar not many teams have two good corners and i know that the commander's unfortunately don't have probably one let alone two to match up with these guys that's why they're gonna have to play more as well check grinder with the sear on gnd go around i want to jump on him would you see from him last week uh you know not a ton of targets i don't know how many receivers are going to get a ton of targets but seem pretty explosive big and strong role maybe this week going forward what do you see yeah i mean i like big physical guys like that you see what uh the receivers for san frangenians did yesterday with his opportunities going up with debo out he's a very similar type guy the guy very beneficial in a running game that can block and i want to get opportunities catching the ball he makes big plays and those guys are great targets for a young quarterback and just try to get them on curl routes and in routes and slant routes those are big targets big hands and he can make good runs after the catch and it's a great option to have uh you know let tarry take the top off now you got a big target run on the hike for all so yeah i like the fact that he's starting to step into that role as a number two receiver i thought yami brown might do that but or luke macafery but you know who cares who doesn't just have somebody come in and make some plays jay when you were coaching whether it was as a coordinator or as a head coach do you remember guys actually getting wide-eyed from monday football at this level or trying to do too much or or is the monday night thing something more fun for us that players don't really care that much about yeah i've seen coaches get wide-eyed too you know the school nerve-wracking you know sometimes they get a little nervous we're into those coaches named jay yeah maybe try to show their ass a little bit with their creativity and the cool plays that they draw up for you so they get their name on tv you know it's geniuses you know so they got to be careful that but uh not really i think sometimes when the lights do cut on some guys do get nervous and you see um a miss a block or whatever whatever it might be they try to do too much too early that's usually the big thing they try to do things that they're not really capable of doing but for the most part these guys are all pros they play to high level and cause football they're draft picks they play some NFL football and this is their time to really show what they can do monday night football is a great time to play for these guys and they should be all excited jay gruden on grant and danny we never really get to talk to you hours before a game so this is something that i think is interesting for people what is the the lay of the land right now like we see players coming on and off the field doing their routine and walking around with their headphones on what's the actual last few hours before the game like schedule and then also as a coach do you address the team with a speech before every single game obviously it's not some like any given sunday speech every time but like are you always giving some type of pep talk or is it done kind of more by position group like how does that work typically the main talk is a night before the game uh monday nights are a little bit different because typically you have a walk through around 11 o'clock and then they'll have a launch and you have pre-game or pre-game meal you know three four hours before the game then they get there they all warm up and then right before uh after they warm up team warm up they come in and get ready to go and then i talk to them for about five minutes or not even five minutes but a minute maybe tops just to uh few reminders few things that we worked on throughout the course of the week some uh slogan points that we really want to focus on through the week whether it's ball security whatever is penalties lack of penalties uh start fast you know things of that nature things that we worked on throughout the week and just remind them and have some fun and go kick the mask so at this point right for the players they've been waiting around all day that's what's so different for these night games right monday night sunday games and it throws off your routine to a degree is that something that we over-rated as pudgy zilchers on on this side or is that something that actually you guys have to learn how to deal with in terms of the players part of this thing yes tough you know you sit around a hotel all day long that's why you try to get them up and moving for a little walk through in an old meeting for like 25 minutes or an hour maybe walk through the first 15 plays again offensively and defensively make some calls for empty or some empty automatics or maybe you're having coverage uh plays of this three by one we're running this covers two by two run on this and have the mic linebacker communicate it maybe walk through a two-minute drill just to get them up and moving then they go back down and rest for a little bit and uh obviously get to the trainer maybe some guys need some more treatment it's a good time to get extra treatment then they go to the stadium and ready to go jay we appreciate you as always great insight into tonight's matchup thank you and we will chat again next week all right good luck commanders i'll talk to you guys later appreciate you buddy on air and on the road jay groon is driven by the tedford automotive group tedbert ford and chantilly and fair facts are f one fifty headquarters tedbert chantilly lincoln and tedbert cheverland sterling home of tedbert for lifeline time vehicle coverage see and shop them all at tedbert dot com next on grant and danny what are you expecting from jayden daniels tonight what do you think he'll do in monday night football game prime time game number one in his young three-week old career will open up the phones m gm national harbor listen lines eight hundred six three six one oh six seven on that right now what do you expect in from daniels against the bangles eight hundred six three six one oh six seven is the number on g_n_d i mean i'm just trying to do whatever it takes to help get a win um but overall for the team just you know that's a new it's a new team um that we play hard we we play with f or physical um we're not going to back down from nobody logan paulson in 30 minutes we're with you for another hour grant and danny on the fan where we're getting ready for monday night football in since sennady we'll be on our way to the game one hour from right now as we get set for in-person tons of fun danny rue and an nfl stadium watching his beloved washington commanders yeah it looks like it's raining it is raining milton yes i was doing a slight milton it right there well of course the game i decided to go to it pours raid that's going to affect things adversely it will not be raining it doesn't look like it kick out we find literally i'm looking by the hour by hour so here's the deal we're expecting some thunderstorms in and around sennady in the next hour and a half two hours all right it looks like by game time everything will clear up it's going to be humid and it's going to be in the 70s but as the game goes on it's basically a room temperature high humidity football game which stick aside like as players you're not going to do a whole lot better than that assuming it's not raining during the game and there are storms in the area right now uh the thom warning of like weird wind updates is a weird wind update we're getting some of that but it looks like no bad precipitation during the game it's all going to clear out before the game which is ideal that is nice uh yeah you presume the the field conditions will be good um although you know i i don't like washing necessarily would mind a mucked up environment right they're not the political passing team so maybe if we if it turns into a you know a mud bowl or mid dindy's dabraska pushing contest that might benefit them let's go to the phones what do you expect from jayden daniels tonight what do you want to see from the commanders when you turn your tv's on back home other than me and danny smiling in the crowd they're going to give you one of us yeah five k shots where we become a meme like the chargers lady screaming on tv tonight let's go to jamal in dc on grant danny what's up jamal hey what's going on fellas hey buddy um tonight i'm expecting um i think we're going to get jane dang that dang this far um i think he will finally throw a touchdown actually i'm gonna say too we want to throw two touchdowns one to carry the other the equity um i think ron robinson will continue the moment of he started and um we'll get over 100 yards in the ground from him and the score is well however i don't think well when i think they're going to lose the game 28 to 31 because i mean we all see the same defense that's been out there looks like the same welcome last year to be honest with you and um i've just been doing that um joe barrow and gim will you know score more poisonous but we will walk away from the game chilling like the ten completed and we're seeing the progression of jane dang and me as a commander fact this year is not about where's the losses i mean j jane dang is the most better week seven games than he did week one that happened success with people so jamala you know you're reading from the same pages my friend i mean it sounds like you just took the words right out of my mouth or vice versa i cosign everything you just said i'll give you the old verbal retweet i mean for me number one daniels' development is the whole game it's the whole deal it's everything and if he has a big game tonight against the bangles this team that's supposed to beat washing and handily i think that's revealing and telling and that would be really really encouraging so we'll start there but the other thing is and what i really liked about his call is if they lose tight and they play as well offensively as what he's suggesting in any game this year it's a huge win because you can fix the defense you can go get members of your secondary in the draft and in free agency you could throw money at that problem if you have the right quarterback and the playmakers that we're hoping elevate their game start doing that then you're way closer way ahead of it then we think they are right now one hundred percent one hundred percent i mean so to me progress isn't linear this is not a fairytale where and then one thing happened and the next thing happened and the third thing was even better than the first two adversity strikes right you're going on the road national television this is a different animal than a week number one different animal than uh... you know playing a couple of you know that tamper was fine beat the hell out of you and playing a bad team like the giants some bangles team that's got a pretty good pedigree i know they haven't played well this year but that's just this year they they have done some things recently in the past that you're aspiring to get to they're the level that you have simply not been for decades so i think this is one of those tough ones and it's not necessarily about having a tough game that's going to happen happens to the best players ever to play this game it's what you do after that's where's the adjustment where's the uh you know the response where you get knocked to the turf how do you get better what can you do differently that's just for dandels that's for kingsbury that's for everybody under the sun you know they've the fact that they're one and one is kind of masked a lot of the problems remember last year they were two and oh and everyone kind of knew you have to know that's great but they're not that special and we certainly saw that play out over the course of the year i think this is a tough game and that's going to happen it's about what you do afterwards what do you expect to see from jadon daniels tonight is the question and we will take your calls at eight hundred six three six one oh six seven if you want to tweet us or jump into the youtube chat on the one oh six seven the fan stream that works too how's daniels gonna play we talked earlier we predicted his line how about just more anecdotally in terms of like it's not going to be too big for him we know that that's one of the beauties of the whole situation he's had moments of nerves which are normal but whether it was camp a pre-season regular season games he belongs that's obvious i just wonder lu in aroma is no joke the defensive coordinator of this bangles team has fooled a lot of really good quarterbacks over the years he's one of the few guys that gives patrick mohomes fits if daniels and cliff kingsbury can win that match up that's gonna feel like that there's a lot those guys are maybe a little more advanced as a tandem than we think they are but i think in aroma is going to have a plan for a young qb it's not on the line of tot bowls and tampa probably in terms of you know how diverse the looks are and like how much you throw at them but it's closer to that than just a real basic vanilla formula defense well for bowls it's if the solution is blitzing boy does he have a solution for you right and that's what he wants to do is bring pressure this isn't necessarily always about that right it's about uh frustrating you it's about taking things away that they know you like and uh forcing second third and four threes giving their pass rush a chance to get home which it hasn't consistently yet but certainly can as you've seen a guy like trei hindrance and who we're talking about who said i think a 17 and a half stack season uh on his uh resume so yeah in this to me would go if he plays a lot better than i am anticipating tonight and again i'm not upset either way i'm still a big jade daniel's guy i'm i'm usually asked about him being here but but you know at first he's going to strike if it doesn't strike tonight on national television and he holds holds his own and they win or close or they have a chance to that's going to go a long long way in my opinion let's go to pj and rest in on grant and danny here on the fan hey phage was good okay guys happy evening it's a wonderful optimistic evening um so what my goal is this you know if we win icing on the cake uh i'm not saying we don't have a chance to win but since nanny being owned to with joe beryl they're going to really uh i think they're going to score so many points on us um i'm just looking to have jade and have a uh a smart performance um i want to see him kind of get the receivers more more involved and i would like to see somebody besides terry mccorn on the receiver get more than 50 yards so i think uh you know if we lose 30 to 23 but jade in plays well i'll be very happy i'll take that yeah 100 percent hey peach peach yeah appreciate the call dude i would take that right now sine and cine i know that's not popular i know people don't really like to think that way i've got a different more long-term vision in mind if they're losing a one-score game where it's not you know nine to six you know what i mean we're the offense does some stuff and yeah it's the same old crap with the defense i can absolutely live with that when we saw a wide receiver do that last week no a brown on just three targets basically in just a half of football after being elevated had three grabs for 56 yards so if you just want a receiver who can pile up over 50 yards we've seen it danny rue ladies and gentlemen agrees with his beloved favor mascot major tuddy do you guys know this danny and major tuddy see things eye to eye what did that diabetic pig say you've always loved major tuddy what did that overweight goofball say we don't have fat shame a mascot here what do you think you and major tuddy agree on other than everything guess what name stinks no oh major tuddy tweeted at 4 21 today on september 23rd my mom's birthday happy birthday mom hey she's a big fan of the washington outfit washington i tried skyline chili said major tuddy overrated okay now he's right except major tuddy doesn't have teeth all right major tuddy is a stuffed animal or whatever the stupid thing is okay and i hate it but a mascot yeah but he is correct everyone needs to calm down since nanny people have conflated muddled flavor with complication and sophistication cinnamon does not belong in chili nor does dark chocolate settle down it's the 20 it's better than who's your chili which is just beyond it isn't the point of skyline chili it's chili on pasta no that's the three way right the the chili it's supposed to be this like it's so complicated it's such a diverse flavor portal it's not it's sweet and it's stinks i'm thanks i need to tag in our resident chili expert or i should say or since any expert i don't know if he's a chili expert or not uh our guy thompe thompe thompe thompe thompe thompe first of all i'm sure you've tried it have you become a convert to skyline chili there there is a competitor out here named gold star i side with gold star i think that skyline is disgusting but gold star is actually a little okay it's it's pretty much what danny said and off mic you were talking about major tuddy and how he doesn't have teeth you don't need teeth to eat skyline chili that's a great point just kind of it's like sugar soup it's sticks they put it over very plain spaghetti and then they take like a brick of government cheese i don't know if you guys have ever been in an actual like uh skyline establishment but they have a professional cheese grater not like what you would do to grate your cheese at home this guy gets hired comes in hourly employee all he does is shred cheddar cheese start to finish all day long it's a hell of a gig but it seems like something you would like i can't remember you're a chili guy yes i like chili right so with again what they do is they take like uh 74 cent whatever store safe way store brand noodles boil them up and put this sweet sugary chili like substance on top of it kind of sounds good and pretend it's if it's it's i i would rather speak any sauce it does not you know much better spaghetti bologneses than having spaghetti with stupid it's not what we're talking about on it this chili stinks gramp they only they think they're so smart they're brilliant because it's sophisticated it's not it's a muddled confused mess the only way you can actually make it work is if you have a coney which is chili dogs that works but you got it salt and the sweet what is it do you guys call chili dogs they're going to call them troypies out here yeah because that's the midwest of troyp that okay but that's the only way to do it if you go in there and order anything else it's wrong my man knows it's under a 2080 scouting scale it's not even on you're not even sending the scout to the game you know you're not much better can to stay home with burnt ends you're much better that is tommy knows a thing or two about some delicious eats he's got the uh sports book tailgate appetizers here at thumbs watch bar also known as sports booket at hollywood casino where we are enjoying the day in lorenceburg with our old producer tom daily crispy corn fritters you would eat that it's a barbeque pulled pork sliders can i interest you in that yes you can maybe a little salted pretzel bite with beer cheese i almost got that today but i got the potatoeskins that they're not shared with you instead mac and cheese bites with pepper bacon jam that sounds like a sixty as far as i'm concerned i wouldn't know because you wouldn't give them a popcorn chicken with fireball ranch yeah i would do that yeah smoked bourbon barbecue meatballs that's what i'm gonna do tomorrow you're gonna call it the paulson do you have red solo cups on it yeah can we put them in a small cup it's got to be a clear cup oh by rule by rule sure yeah and a dip bar with spinach queso and tortilla chips that sounds like a danny who that's a danny root yeah we're doing all right out here in lorenceburg won't be long before we are on our way to the game you guys want to hop in on the commanders and your expectation for tonight on monday night football 800 six three six one oh six seven this is a potential coming out party and a real opportunity for jade and daniels to show the country what he is all about let's get to a commander spotlight next on the fan got them and picked the spots of me you know obviously we got to get teary the ball but you know at the end of the day you got to spread the ball around defenses are going to keen on terry um respectfully respect to him um because what he did in his league but at the end of the day man when it's it's time and we have a one-on-one matchup um you know sometimes i mean terry's out there you know go let him win um but other than that you know it's just keep playing our game we're going to keep moving forward um and just go from there that's jade and daniels we're grant and danny you are listening to the fan on a burgundy and gold game day presented by rude is your cooling system letting you down score a touchdown with the rude and experience peak performance dominate the season with unmatched cooling power and visit or uud.com if it ain't rude it ain't right we're getting closer to monday night football eight o'clock hour logan paulson joins the show coming up in about 15 minutes right here on the fan we will be getting over to the stadium i will say i saw a lot of burgundy and gold danny over the course of the afternoon yeah um some folks came into the bar obviously everybody dominican ohio stopped by but we saw some people roaming around here in indiana you know 30 minutes or so from the stadium but beyond that downtown we were at great american ball park right next to paker over at paul brown today there were a ton of people rocking burgundy and gold you see folks taking the torches like we were yeah i saw people that obviously drove because they had you know the red skin steamed or commander steamed gear like all over the truck and whatnot so it's one of those trips where you gotta want it several hours but you could drive most people i'm sure flew uh and there's more commander's gear than i thought more often than not still which is interesting you see red skin stuff but there were plenty of people at the block w's i saw some jadon daniel's jerseys so slowly but surely the commander's gear is being purchased it is catching the fan base by storm or something yeah there's it's slow creep just stick aside you're seeing more and more as time goes i think of daniels is a piece you're not gonna have a choice but to write you're gonna have to do it five exactly yeah like my son literally three days ago my wife was at target and wasn't even it was saturday action my wife was at target meeting my sister for something and they got home and my son ran up to me in the basement he goes daddy daddy look he was holding the jadon daniel's number five commander sure now we did not make one commander's purchase as a family and tell that for however many years we didn't really talk about that purchase i think my wife and i both had a plan but my son saw the jersey he knows i talk about jadon daniels all the time he likes jadon daniels he's three and he was like i want that and my wife was like we're gonna we want you to be a football fan of the local team so you gotta do that sort of stuff right we're gonna do that so we now have a commander's item in our household i tried to convince my eldest to see if you'd want some gear uh but he's a busy play for man's city then i don't care self that was a no from him dog let's go to dick in d_c on grant and danny wants to hop in on the mcm national harbor listener lines here on game night what's up dick yeah um i think that daniels will not do as well as they're projecting not because there's anything wrong with him but he's not going to have the time of possession for shirts defense isn't going to allow this offense to get on the field that much 23 or 24 minutes maybe oh if it's that low they're in trouble i think they may be trouble anyhow but that that was a huge problem in week one yeah looked like the plays were on the time of possession battle at times in that game it you can't have the ball you can't make plays yeah i mean to me that's the recipe right that that's the worst case scenario where you're chasing it you're hurrying it feels like you go three and out the game is slipping you're in quicksand since daddy's you know dominate and running up and down the field that's what you're worried about then you get into those bad situations right where it's third to million the quarterback's pressing a little bit they're not built to do a whole bunch of points in a short amount of time very few teams these days are but they're especially not all right let's get to our player to lock in on on grant and danny right now presented by baldinos lock and key you're one stop shop for auto keys and fobs visit baldinos dot com mine tonight is going to be brian robinson who had a career day eight days ago against the giants he's trying to build on 133 yards the most in his career 7.8 per carry because he ripped off a 40 and a 33 yarder both of those were the longest runs in his career i think there was something they found there with the idea of read option the defense avenue account for daniels and getting robinson going downhill i think you'll see a second straight game where he's up over 15 carries if they're able to stay on their plan on script so to speak and they don't fall behind robinson is my player to lock in on john allen for me he's got to be great tonight either him or john pay but i'm picking john allen and i'm wearing his t-shirt that's in honor of him uh no tackles for loss just yet no quarterback sacks just yet only a couple hits to show uh for some pretty decent effort so far a breakout statistically is needed for him tonight if they're gonna have a chance that tip pass interception that uh you know trash at joe burrow's feet throwing a bat they forcing a bad throw he needs to be a factor from the first whistle tonight let's go to the bangles player to lock in on i mentioned in passing earlier tray henryksons a baller i don't love really good edge rushers that fight their butt off down and down out against washington's tackles just yet uh we'll see how much brandon coleman we get on the left side where is there going to be more Cornelius Lucas who actually you look at the the grades via pff and some of the sites that do that kind of thing you know lucas has maybe been a little better in pass pro anyway early on than the rookie but tray henrykson who normally rushes at the right defensive end spot opposite a left tackle is a handful he's got that carrigan like ability to just keep coming you know i'll have two two and half sack games pretty frequently i have a hard time believing there's not going to be a time tonight any when i look over at you and say there he is nine areas again slapping in the ribs another guy to look out for is sam hubbert a little bit more of a run stuffer than an edge rusher typically but he's a giant guy he's impactful he wears number ninety four those are the two defensive lineman up front for the bangles to keep tabs on tonight i got to watch t higgens when he plays when he's consistent he is a thousand yard receiver he didn't last year because he didn't play missed a handful of games but he was on pretty much the exact same pace that he kind of was always on six four two hundred twenty pounds big physical great hands and traffic and a little bit of everything he makes this season debut tonight he couldn't possibly wait another week couldn't possibly have made sure that he was a hundred percent healthy later on no no no had to be tonight against washington there is no better way to get ready for football than to preview the game and dive into the x's and the o's and with our guy logan paulson who's going to join us next live right here on grant and danny on the fan
