Grant and Danny with you on 106 7 the fan on a Tuesday happy to be with you. Thank you for making the show Part of your day. You are listening live all over the DMV on our flagship 106 7 you can watch us on the grant and Danny live stream right now in high definition on the 106 7 the fan YouTube page we're out at 1757 beautiful golf course out here in Ashburn near the commander's training facility Excellent event benefiting the wounded warriors that we are happy to take part in today. Great cool, man Yeah, it's just one of those nice reminders that the fall day is perfect warming up in the Sun guys right in front of us Just hitting absolute bombs with their driver watching it go all for a good cause a lot of fun Man, you dig days like this. Yeah, it's one of the good ones and it is perfect out here weather wise The one of the days where if you're the commanders you probably wish you were on the practice field I mean that pleasant you'll trade one of the really hot gross rainy days for this because you design this weather in a Laboratory, but there's so much to get into on the show I should let everybody know that the maiden voyage of our weekly segments with our guy Austin Echler today at five o'clock So you will hear him live on Grant and Danny at that time. There are some dignitaries great former Redskins legends Some current commanders roaming around at the facility here today. So we'll try to get some of those fellows on the show as well So we'll be very busy on G&D, but you just get into our traditional Tuesday show I guess we could start with Monday night football last night Even though the Jets lost and got bullied by San Francisco a legitimate Super Bowl contender out of the NFC I think if you're a Jets fan while you can be discouraged with your defense playing an egg Aaron Rogers looked good It was mobile. He moved around. I thought he was able to kind of plant and anchor and throw You know he and Kirk cousins are both coming back from the Achilles injuries last year Rogers happened in week one Cousins was closer to Halloween and if you're comparing the two I thought Rogers looked way further along which makes sense from a calendar standpoint, but if you're a Jets fan today I think you wake up going I got a quarterback I got a shot and that's kind of been the case for the last couple of seasons several seasons really to Dad to that right. I mean if Aaron Rogers is okay, that team's gonna be okay How good they're gonna be? I don't know just as on reddit can ever come back They needed probably a little more pass rush than they had last night. I would say but yeah, you got to be encouraged San Francisco's legit. They are there's a great chance. They're going to the Super Bowl I know you don't do moral victories, but if you're the Jets you're going that was actually a nice step forward How good is that team? They're very good. They did not have Christian McCaffrey Did it matter and we don't know when they found out they weren't gonna have Christian McCaffrey if you believe Friday was it not? Jordan Mason, they're running back He told Lisa Salters on the field he found out Friday night McCaffrey was out Causchnehen said that wasn't the case we found out this afternoon McCaffrey wasn't gonna play meaning on Monday Then Mason came back in his next availability in his press conference and said I'm not talking about that So there was a lot of different moving parts on exactly the timeline on the McCaffrey injury But here's what I know death taxes and a Shanahan running screen scheme Turning a back you've never heard of into a legend overnight I mean, that was the case with Jordan Mason He didn't have as many carries in his college career as he had last evening 28 attempts 147 yards and a touchdown and by the way, that's supposed to be a really good Jets defense that defense is supposed to be a run stuffing dominant physical front like they're supposed to be able to get after people and San Francisco without their MVP and their skill position rooms Cross them they had no answer and the other guy that I want to call attention to for the 49ers Which is just such a joy to watch that team receivers running free so much space around everyone who catches a ball Kyle was putting on a clinic as always Trent Williams man. How much do you miss? That dude they call him silverback Trent Williams Was dominant He did not practice one time. He did not work out with the team one time he was on his couch training on his own doing whatever he was doing for the last couple of months holding out and Then 72 hours before the season kicks off Kyle Shanahan gets on the horn and says amen. We need you. We want you back here. No problem They played his music. He came walking through the door He looked heavier than he normally does last night watching him in pregame and then he didn't allow a single pressure He crushed his assignments all night long one of the greatest tackles that ever ever. He's incredible Um, I do I also think two things are true He might be a little bit to deal with at times, but it's worth the squeeze There may be a day where it's not heavy lies the crown. We have not gotten there yet. That is a bad ass You could be successful. You could have enemies. You could be unsuccessful. You're gonna friends Frank get out of bed and just mush people That's what Trent Williams does. He's here to eat sleep and knock dude stiff What up what an unbelievable player a a as Hall of Fame as Hall of Fame comes, right? Like one of the great players of his generation not just oh, he's a nice tackle He's a good piece here that dude is incredible like moves around like a running back at 300 some odd pounds Couldn't be stronger Age doesn't affect him it affects mortal people not guys like that Just think about not only the age where I think he's now closing in on 40. Yes 37 38 something Not only the age the fact that he didn't prepare all off season. Yeah, the Walter Jones plan, right? Practice he's not in any football shape I got multiple DMS on Instagram at Grand H. Paulson and text from buddies last night early in the game going Trent looks bigger Right like he noticeably has some weight probably to shed 33 past blocking snaps not a single Pressure first time he hasn't even given up a pressure since week three of the 2022 season I mean he was tremendous, but you start thinking about it This guy has been in the league now. This is his 14th season He spent the first nine of them here and because of the way it ended in Washington with the Bruce Allen short regime and all the optics He's not going to be known as or go down as a Redskins or or a Washington guy first Even if he ends up playing seven seasons in San Fran and nine here six versus nine whatever He'll end up being a niner probably which is a shame and that's one of the things truly Danny If I could say this that I hope for this next ownership group, which they've already Proven is also a priority for them. I want better relationships with our great players and the important people in the building I am so tired of Chris Cooley flying out of the DC area landing in Wyoming and now living in a house in the woods not to be heard of or heard from again like Because he he's at odds with the team enough of that the people that bleed and sweat and put their bodies and their lives on the line for you Can we have some decent relationships with some of those folks police? Yeah big picture guys like Trent Williams little picture when Ryan Carrigan comes back for the first time after spending What right around a decade here in Washington? Let's let's have a 30 second video that says welcome back Ryan or thank you Ryan or something and it wasn't because Ryan Carrigan wanted to leave because he was pissed off and wouldn't because he wanted to leave because You know he was like screw this. I want to go somewhere else It's because he was told he wasn't wanted right like after a year as a part-time player We had five and a half sacks Reverrin company moved on which you know in general is not the craziest thing in the world to do a guy that's Who skill set is diminishing who you'd like to go younger bring in your own guys whatever the case? That's not crazy But what is crazy is not saying on a 30 second video montage I mean when when every national that got to it mattes here comes back they get a video they get a standing ovation like they Cured polio and it's unbelievable It's probably too far in that direction about us with you for my liking But I'll air on that side rather than ignoring the fact that the guy at who when he left here was your all-time sack glitter Now there's a statistical anomaly that may or might not be the case But you couldn't bother to have some kind of production was an afterthought for them You've already seen a dramatic improvement in this regard because it's controllable You know think just think of the Darryl Green with Jersey retirement video Outstanding great content perfect. That's the way you treat a legend more of that less of the previous ladies and gentlemen Please turn your attention To the infield where we'll now be playing a special tribute to former infielder Wilmer Defoe Look at the video board. It's Ryan Rayburn and then like that the video Replays are like and it's a basic to center field for Defoe is first as a national and highlight and then it just ends And he like waves and I mean, but it you are you gonna be classy or you're not Yeah, are you going to treat everyone like they were somebody or are you not my point is? The somebody's definitely need to be treated like somebody's and we just around here We haven't seen it and they haven't done it just air on that side, man If you've got a shift for the capitals you get you get a nice little ovation. Come on I'm not down like I was down on the Jets coming into the year So I wasn't surprised to see they were a little rusty It takes time with these quarterbacks who miss so much time in the previous season We've seen that over and over and over again, but also I think they're in a really tough division Mm-hmm now the bills that of sure started one and oh they didn't even play well early in their game We'll go fast as 15 minutes top of the hour at 3 o'clock today and go through every NFL game from Sunday But they were down 17 to 3 and Josh Allen put on the Cape two rushing touchdowns two passing touchdowns Miami similarly Complete egg late at the beginning of that game completely terrible for like three quarters And they still found a way to come back and beat Jacksonville because they've got that strike up the band 70-yard touchdown in their back pocket when they need it So that that division to me. I don't think the Patriots be any good, but they might be frisky It looks like they can play defense. That's the first place doing what Patriots do you sir? Apparently I mean they are going to be physical. I know that they're they're gonna arrive violently to quote Joe Whitt have they found their north they beat the Bengals so I'm I'm looking at that division going always people crowning the Jets with Rogers Very old at a point now coming off of an injury whereas last season wasn't that great? Anyway, I didn't really get it But they'll need a lot more at a brief haul and a lot more out of that defense those will be my two takeaways I actually thought Rogers even though he wasn't great Answered a lot of the important questions that I needed them to so I was a buyer into the Jets Mostly because I think they've had a really good roster for a couple of years where if they had Decent quarterback play they would have been a 10 11 win team and I thought that's what they're gonna get this year So I was disappointed really in in it. I would say in their defense more than anything else I mean San Francisco is just awesome and they're awesome from week one It's not one of those Kansas City situations where they might be ho hum for a couple of months or the Patriots when they were Going to the FC title game and Super Bowl every other year where they might take a September off to really find themselves and then you know October hits they hit them they hit the gas San Francisco is great right now and they're gonna be great all as long as they're healthy pretty much that was unbelievable They they were the best team in week one in my humble opinion I still think the Jets are higher on them than you are to me if Rogers is last year in Green Bay Rogers Let alone approaching MVP level Rogers, which is a lot to expect given the injury in the extra year and everything else But if he's that perfectly fine 26 and 10 4,000 yard guy you've got Weapons you've got What I thought was gonna be a much better defense. I think they're gonna make some noise in that division I think Buffalo has taken a small step back where you know Josh Allen's gonna have to play here all the time I don't trust Miami Basically wants the weather turns sub 50 degrees, but yeah So mixed bag that's it for the Jets in week number one, but but a lot of football left in that division It's gonna be fascinating. That's gonna be an interesting division. It will be he's Danny Ruier I'm Grant Paulson. You're listening to one of six seven the fan One thing I do want to try to do this season with our 5 p.m. Tuesday hits with Austin Echler He's tried to incorporate one listener question at the end of every single segment So I think it'll be a good opportunity to try to We'll go through all the the ways guys get a hold of us during the show So we can dig in the comments on the youtube chat on one o six seven the fans youtube page if you're streaming there Obviously you can tweet us at grand h paulson at funny danny and I'll remind you guys I'm sure danny will as well throughout the show, but uh at the end of all of our conversations with echler Maybe we can ask him our favorite question from the listening audience something We didn't think of but we're very very excited that he's the guy We'll be talking to you this year and someone that according to Dan Quinn at least after game number one He said yesterday They want to incorporate more and they should he led the team with over 50 receiving yards on four catches Prove to be very elusive in the open field He only got two carries which I would have hammered the over on that if that was the number I was given before the game But a total of six touches. I assumed Late last week it was going to be the the 10 to 14 range any given week for him So that was a light workload for echler and i'm hoping after the way he played he earned more playing time Me too. I I just I I understand not wanting to overdo it But we're a long way from overdoing it right if he had 16 carries you go that's probably too much You could get away with that. Why do you pick 16 carries? I just named a named a named a number It's just an interesting number to me. That's interesting, right? I mean like say like it's not 15 It's not 70, but 16 cares if you had that seems very specific slamming between the tackles I go that's that's probably not the greatest use to vos and echler I also know that using that all until the third quarter was not a great use of austin echler Yeah, you know like there's a happy medium there that that 12 to 14 total touches Five six receptions, you know Four five maybe six carries just to keep people honest because you the thing I could never stand And this was even uh jay gruden who comes on with us on monday So I loved his offense because they were always really good It was all right first and second down is over here comes jadie mckesick and it was It was telegraphs you knew it was coming don't do that don't let people know what's coming Austin echler can play on first down. I promise you we can I promise you we can be in there on second and four where now you can hand it off to him or you could run play action There are so many things that people just refuse to do. It's like this is our silo He has our third down back he enters on third down well two of their drives to their credit They didn't have a third down so he didn't play Other drives they went three and out or or didn't look very good. So he didn't play wrong Wrong wrong wrong more austin echler more often Are you going full ck here not eating any of your french fries is that what i'm noticing? No, we started the show So I okay You can do a thing where you eat super quietly and like in between like when you know i'm gonna talk for a second You can get a client. I don't have the way of us to do it Okay, well I don't really do it now that we're on youtube as much but that was definitely my play before but I mean I got I got him right here Yeah, I thought you were going full slacks because our boss does this thing where you hear that right if he gets a Side with a meal he doesn't eat it because he doesn't like food that much Right, so I was thinking maybe the new danny rue may be your auntie french fry No, i'm very pro i've had a bit of a bunch of this was a good serving of fries by the way compliments Also, I don't know what that type of fry is it's my favorite that like crunchy exterior steak cut I've always called it. Is that right? Steak fries to me. I mean, maybe they are steak, but I think the steak is bigger so i'll show But they're I just mean like the crunch to it not even the shape. Uh-huh. It's the you know you really snap down on those I'm gonna get one and see if you can hear it. That's a good french. I'll put it right up to the to the mic here. Let's see if you can hear it I don't think you could hear it. No, we'll try again another time. Uh, let's do this next you mentioned 16 carries That's how many jadon daniel's got it is we got columnists in washington dc coming out of retirement to yell at the coaches about this is there too much being made about jadon daniel's running the ball as much as he did or Is that a problem that he ran the ball 16 times in the first game? We'll get to that next on grant and danny here on the fin Doors take us to summers away Or winter adventures And afternoon getaways Your dedicated fidelity advisor can help you open those doors by working with you on a comprehensive plan to help you reach your wealth's full potential Because doors were meant to be opened Visit fidelity dot com slash wealth investment minimos apply fidelity brokerage services llc member ny se s i p c A beautiful tuesday out and about at 1757 golf course in ashburn Right down the street from the bubble and where the commanders are training where grant and danny You are listening to the fan. It's another game week For the commanders as they get ready for the giants on sunday I was just talking to a listener who was out here hitting golf balls and he said i'm taking my son to his first ever game He's five years old I was strategizing go I take him to the giants game in week two or the panthers game in october And so those are definitely the two to consider You're going to pick two Those pick from those based on week one. You made the right decision. Yeah with those two teams You might want to wait till carolina in october, but you never know what the weather is going to be I think that's your safest commitment if i'm honest But the other thing is because he's like i got to get him a win. I got to get him hooked Early in the season get him out there let him experience a football game in person live And then he's going to want to sit with you and enjoy the the season right he's going to want to watch games But he said you know the one drawback would be if they lose big They may lose this weekend they shouldn't but they may I just can't see him losing big I don't think I don't think the giants have big exactly what I mean like I I think they're so limited and so low ceiling They don't have that club in the bag. We're at a golf range like they don't have 300 yards off the tee They're like all right time to hit the driver and they pick up a pitching wedge like they'll get it there It's going to take a little while though They stink they do it's really important for the commanders. You're at home You're 0-1 after a dud You got to look pretty good in this game against the giant Yeah, the giants have stunk there are stinkies anybody's been in the sport over the last handful of years and yet 8 3-1 against washington over their last 12 matchups even danny devito Yep beat the washington commanders yep if memory serves It's Tuesday If you're new to the show this fall this football season Tuesday is a big day on g&d for a lot of reasons We've already told you austin eckler's going to be our weekly five o'clock guest every tuesday But on tuesday's on this show we've got a staple in the football season. We call it commander's survivor The way this works is you go to facebook every single tuesday facebook.com/grantondanny and we've got a list of players that we start the season with That gets whittled down one by one Each week you vote one player immune and safe going into the next week And you kick one player off the island based on how they played At the end of the season there will be only one commander left or as we call it terry mclar More often than not he john alan kind of are the last two standing, but we'll see what 2020 for holds Danny Why don't you let everybody know what players are competing for the title of the 2024 commander's survivor on offense jade and daniels brian robinson jr austin eckler terry michlorin diambi brown zak or it's brandon colman sam kosby on defense jonathan alan doron pain bobbie Wagner fricki louvoo Benjamin st. jus to manual forms pack your bags quan martin jeremy chan and austin sibert your kicker The way we do this generally is we try to start with eight on offense eight on defense keep it balanced We try to go with guys that are obviously playing well or not normally that's Players in space receivers running backs cornerbacks with lineman. We typically go tackles over interior guys You know on the defensive line. We go with the studs alan and pain Typically you'd want edges as well, but there's just nothing overly notable. No, there's none on the roster at this point And then you got to have a kicker out so luckily for austin sibert He's going to be safe going into week two be a chance to make it He wasn't the guy that missed the two kicks like kade york did this past week So pretty clearly I would say there are plenty of options on the defensive side of the ball who could be At risk of getting sent home after just one game We're light on immunity options maybe jade and daniels austin echler in a decent shape Going into week number two But go vote right now. We'll update this throughout the show and at the very end of the show in our six o'clock segment We will tally up the votes and let you know who's getting sent home And who's getting immunity will do this every tuesday on grant and danny go vote facebook.com Slash grant and danny, but that brings us to the topic you and I wanted open with today Which is jade and daniels run in the football? I saw dann steinberg our old friend at the washington post Who's a great writer and used to run the dc sports bug and now edits a big chunk of that sports department's uh paper He said that Tom Boswell a legendary columnist in town called him last night And it sounds like he was really hot. He was angry Had to get something off his chest And steinberg's like why don't you write about it even though you're retired so Boswell wrote jade and daniels has 16 carries after one game for that the commander's coaches should have their heads examined Otherwise daniels soon will it's pretty powerful headline there from thomas Boswell Now I tweeted this and I made the point that he ran it 16 times 11 of those were scrambles Quite literally there were 11 times where the play was not designed for him to run it and he ended up doing so They did have five design runs two read option plays Two powers that I hated where he got a snap and immediately went downhill into the line of scrimmage between the tackles And then they had one pretty clearly designed to me like play action They could bootleg on a fourth and one to get them to the sideline in space and they get out of bounds But there were five design runs there were 11 other runs from jade and daniels and dan quinn was actually asked about this in the press conference Yesterday by scott abraham of channel seven in town. He was asked basically. Hey 16 runs seems like a lot Is that something you're comfortable with this is what dan quinn had to say about this? Yeah, and certainly not all those are designed quarterback runs So I think that's important to say but yeah, I think he'd be the first to say Um the same thing scott to say This is you know, I had a chance to go rip it to somebody else Sometimes you can see a rush or a pattern break and there's open space and you go But uh, yeah for him create it when it's there You know when you get outside the pocket we'd love to see him remain a passer first Um, and I think it's going to come with more experience scott. Honestly, you know when I can go Extended to throw it when the hey this plays over i'll get rid of it and move on to the next play So I think you'll see that trajectory continue scott as we go Certainly 18 carries is not the model, you know that we're looking for certainly with brian and austin and others here But uh at the end of it. Um, I do think we'll continue to grow in that spot But certainly not by design to have that many So this is at the core of the fundamental disagreement that you and I have And this is the manifestation of my case when you call runs when you Are even willing to to say hey, it's a it's a close player. It's a it's a third and one or it's a must run Or it's something we got to have let's run it. You're telling the player. It's you're enforcing something you're reinforcing the design here The coaching point should be throw throw throw throw throw throw escape to throw run to throw Move out of the pocket to throw escape danger to throw and if nothing else is there There's no big play available guys heads or turns you could scramble for some yards But when running is the paradigm you get a runner So It doesn't surprise me that jaden daniels ran too much Six if we start from the premise that 16 carries is too much Which I think everybody agrees with how we got there to me is the fundamental part of the disagreement that you want to I have and I don't want to hash that out again, but I think at it or If you know the player is going to tuck and run Adjustments have to be made accordingly, right? Somehow some way whatever that means to to keep them safe to keep them upright to keep them from getting your hold Uh, you know bozzes headline I think is right on in the sense that you've got to know this player You're going to know who you're dealing with who's already been hitting the head a couple times That is helmet ripped off a couple times You got to do something about that you've got to save him from himself because you need to know better Yes, so My problem is not the five designed runs although I will say that I would never run that power thing with him. I would tear that right up down hill I think at 200 ish pounds. That's an egregious decision and it just doesn't make sense to me I would also say that they had him running the football Slamming into the line of scrimmage at the goal line in a game that was lost with a minute and half left And I talked about this yesterday and that was to me coaching malpractice. That was ridiculous You're down by almost 25 The game was lost. There's a minute and a half to play 37 14 with a minute left. What are we doing here? But that's kind of the end of my issue with the coaching in game. Now the other Umbridge I would take so to speak with the coaches on this front is That answer where Dan Quinn effectively said was a lot of words. Here's what he said Some of those scrambles should have been passes. Mm-hmm. That's exactly what I heard when I listened to that It's what I saw when I watched the all 22 Some of those scrambles shouldn't have happened He should have gotten out of the pressure and reset and throwing the football or possibly just there were scrambles where he wasn't pressure Where he just pulled the ball down and ran um On those plays you got to just keep stay in the pocket. Let's be calm Let's be comfortable. We're a quarterback. We're a thrower and let's wait and find someone to get open Let's get through our reads and that's going to happen I think more and more as he gets more comfortable as Dan Quinn said But to Boswell's point when you're taking issue with the coaches To say we ran it 16 times the coaches are idiots I used to say this with griffin in the shane of hands to an extent too Although he had way more designed runs. I think early then we saw from jade and dangos in week one It's not the coach's fault if he's scrambling And getting out of the pocket other than if they are not behind the scenes saying hey jade You got to throw this you got to zip this ball in here. You got to this is nfl open This ain't ellis you open, but this is nfl open Stand there set your feet drive this ball to this wide receiver Who hadn't caught a pass and is doing cardio in the third quarter And that's to me where they got to be coaching him if they're doing that behind the scenes Even if he's not going to say it at the podium on tell the truth monday or whatever Find no problem, but the answer to me was an opportunity for him to say yeah We don't want him running 16 times. It's bad And I don't get that sense just like when they were talking about him not sliding It was this like funny thing. Oh, yeah, maybe we'll get the nationals to come out. They didn't there's no sliding when his helmet comes off So funny his helmet doesn't hit, you know, it doesn't fit right and it just fought you know his helmet falls off I need a little more Acknowledgement and urgency that this is a thing Protecting him is important 16 runs is not the script. That's not the plan And I think we got a little bit of that but not that assisiveness Publicly that the definitiveness on how big of a deal that was that I wanted But having said that I just go back to the design runs a handful of times in a game Don't draft him if you're not going to do that that that is the superpower The amount of scrambles though where everyone claps and goes crazy he goes and gets six yards That's cool. Unless you turn down 14 through the air and there were some of those two It's one game so i'm not going to have a big overreaction But you heard Dan Quinn at two different points in his press conference. In fact, dearest grabbed the clip When he was answering nikki's first question at the very beginning of the press conference where he said Um, some of the plays where he wanted jade and daniel's to throw the football like this wasn't even the question And it was one of the first comments he made in the press conference Yesterday on on his tell the truth monday. This is what he said. Yeah, I think it was confirmed Um, I think mostly niki from like the competitor side. I felt that I think if you'd asked him there'll probably be a few throws that he would either you know like to rip or where the progression may have taken him But by and large I felt from the competitor side. That was it Um, those were some of the things I saw even like on some of the runs like we didn't have a lot of design quarterback runs But some of the ones that he did I think if he'd asked him again, he'd probably want to let it rip to one of the guys on some op so Missed opportunities. Those are the hard ones. I think the one to terry to start the second half and saw jumping here Of course, yeah, that's the closest we're going to get I think to him publicly saying But hopefully behind the scenes they're rewatching that play gone. Hey, buddy. Here's here's where we're going Here's where we want you to throw it because they don't want him to scramble 11 times I'd like him to just hear him come out and say yeah 16 is way too many Clearly he's not going to do that. So here's the thing that I want to make sure people understand as well Um There are times. I mean the best pastor of our generation is pat mehomes How many big third and five says he got out of trouble scrambled? First down and shuffled no scrambles big plays great. No problem It is all part of it, but I think there's this and you know, it's it's one of those things where it's a bad shot Unless it goes in and then it's a good shot. You never really know on a given play and it's hard to predict the outcomes But there's a general practice here where if you're scrambling and you're going to end up with a handful of yards That's not that's not the end of the world, but it's also I bet you there was a better opportunity You know, I mean like there was another shot there that could have been a chunk play that could have been a first down that could have been something special Now I don't want to take away a play where nobody's covered He's dancing around for his life in the back escapes a couple different guys tip toes down that left side And on what was that 17 18 20 yards? Uh, I think it was even after a penalty if memory serves. Yeah, um, so that they're long down in distance Oh my god spectacular. Yeah, we've got the thing that everybody wants There is a fine line that comes with experience comes with uh, you know mentorship and learning and and you know Going through it enough times, but the default should be to throw And that's got to enter your point behind the scenes. We don't know what's being said But that's got to be coaching points one through a hundred You're always going to have the running club in the back. You will always have that Hopefully, you know, that lasts forever and you know barring injury But the thing that needs development is that throwing part of it, right? And that's what we have to do should not be a surprise because while he's got those Cool for rookie sure accuracy touch all those things. They're there. We saw it in college As I pointed out, it was a very basic passing offense with unbelievable weapons at lsu It is going to take time. So nobody should be overreacting I think it's a fair conversation to have this week after 16 runs Which is something essentially only Lamar Jackson has done in history. You just do not see that It's a lot and it's more. I think that most of us Thought but I guess to sum it up for me succinctly I'd like him to the scrambles or or god sends occasionally It's set it's something that he is always going to have to do But you want to minor in it not major in it, right? You want to have that back breaking souls grabbing Um scramble for a first down as a secret weapon that you can occasionally tap into every once in a while You don't want it to be the default setting He drops back. It's not there immediately and he runs because then you miss out on too many things aerially And it's just the first game that's important to remember too But what do you guys make of what is becoming a story this week? Not just locally but nationally how much he ran and the seeming Endorsements too strong, but the coaching staff Yeah, the coaching staff not coming out to say hey, that is in no way what we're trying to do here 806361067 is the number if you want to join us on grant and danny on the fan Dores take us to summers away Or winter adventures And afternoon getaways Your dedicated fidelity advisor can help you open those doors By working with you on a comprehensive plan to help you reach your wealth's full potential Because doors were meant to be opened Visit fidelity calm slash wealth investment minimals apply fidelity brokerage services llc member ny se sipc Back out of daniels with the key bet his first touchdown in the national football league jaden daniels Runs it in from two yards out for the touchdown jaden daniels 16 rushing attempts felt like a lot on sunday tom bozwell Was hot came at a retirement to write about the coaches needing their heads examined before daniels needs his looked at Question we've got for you guys is are you concerned? I guess i'd sum it up danny by saying i'm gonna wait another week and see what it looks like I think this could be a nice learning lesson for everybody where Daniels kind of played some hero ball and didn't see something open right away pulled the ball down and took off And my guess is they get back in the film room. They point some things out They coach them up a little bit and it looks a lot different this week. I would guess Single digit maybe eight or nine carries with six of those scrambles two or three design runs They scale it back and they try to get their passing game going So I am concerned. My hope is what you said, right? My hope is that there an adjustment is made but Read between the lines here Always help it fell off. He's a he's a dog though Oh, he doesn't know how to slide maybe maybe we'll get CJ Abrams to come by and help him slide. Nobody did anything Not funny to me. They don't have the trauma that I have they didn't live through 2012 They don't know what it's like to have this golden thing and have it ripped away by one extra scramble one extra cutback one extra read option One extra triple option against Cincinnati. They don't know what it's like to have it ripped away So i'm i'm carrying that baggage with me. This is a me thing and that's all fine and dandy I don't think they have the urgency. I don't get the sense that they're thinking but ah, you know, this will work itself out I don't need to work itself out. I need stop what everyone else is doing and work on this element until it's fixed He's also statistically the most slender running quarterback in history. Yeah, like just body type wise Uh, you look at the guys that are his height and weight at the combine. It's a very minuscule group of players But none of them ran it's like a couple slender wide receivers in league history. It looked like that a lot like he runs So that that part of it is ominous as well. I am actually team jaden daniels running But I think the design runs are done in a way where weirdly enough they actually are more Able to dictate terms where you can run a read option of the short side of the field of the sideline of the boundary You're able to get him into space and let him do the the lunging falling thing that he does more so than the scrambles As we saw that was the scramble was where robert griffin ended up hurting his knee Not not to bring him into this, but I mean those plays are less Pre-determined they're more chaotic. They are more spontaneous and random and and I don't think you can forget that Let's go to jamey and fratrixberg on grant and danny wants to chime in on the fan MGM national harbor listener lines are open. What's up jamey? How's it going guys? Thanks for having me. Hey, buddy, sir. You got it Yeah, uh, so there was far as the 16 attempts go I think the article is a bit simple to just Or is it the the coach and staff should have their heads chopped off? He decided he asked to run 11 times because nobody's open where he just doesn't see a guy I don't really think that's quince fault And I don't think he has to come out in the press conference and say it's a big deal because you don't want to curse the confidence of the rookie You got out there When they get behind closed doors as long as that's addressed that's not a problem for me I am a little worried about the role he does wearing on his shoulder as he goes on It just doesn't look good Yeah, and also just leaves you open for head to head or head to shoulder contact Which you've already seen. Yeah, the throwing shoulder on the helmet where he got dinging the way that he did Because you're you're going head first so to speak. I got a tweet from someone that says Basically, you know, this is being over talked about Their point is he had the same number of carries as lamar jackson and then jackson has had 15 carries a bunch This topic has become overblown lamar at 15 career games where he had at least 16 carries I don't know if that number is true. By the way, that would shock me if it is I doubt it frankly But i'll take his word for it He said he had five such games in his first full season starting Is that the goal here though now which guy is that the i love the player by the way But the guy that's been hurt is throughout his entire career who's missed a lot of time and that's kind of where i'm going Is that the goal? Yes when he's been healthy the two years that he has he's been in mvp There are other years where they to start tyler huntley in a playoff game There are other years where he missed the playoffs because that has started wasn't there in the last three weeks and they got eliminated And oh by the way, I mean The conversation we've been having is that he can throw better than lamar that in college I certainly saw that at lsu compared to lamar at luavill Like I didn't draft him because I want him to be lamar I drafted him because I think he has the lamar running ability and is going to be a really good passer In the nfl so that that's not necessarily like oh lamar does it you're you're overreacting Is i know he's a two-time mvp and if the point is We want him to be lamar okay that that's a conversation we can have But that's not what i'm trying to accomplish in week two I'm trying to develop him and get him throwing the football. Let's go to chuck and resting on grant and danny Who's joining us on the fan? How are you chuck? Hey, i'm doing great great show guys This is not overblown and i'll share with you how egregious it was in mop up time in garbage time You had this kid running. That's a stupidest thing if he had gotten hurt I mean we weren't even in the game Down by 23 with a minute to go. Yeah, 100 right 100 correct. It's the the things that coaches care about Uh because they're week to week they're you know this minute this type thing They don't think long-term the rest of us are burdened with you know I rooted for the previous regime. I root for the next one whenever it comes They don't care in that way they're they're there to try to make things look better than they were They they want to kick that field goal down 40 to avoid the shutout, right? They need something positive They're thinking in that way whereas the short-term juice and squeeze uh Paradigm there is not much value in that second rushing touchdown for jade and daniels other than the score to look as bad And other than maybe you give daniels a bit more confidence But if he's so fragile that he needs confidence from having his helmet come off and diving in to the end zone with 30 seconds left You didn't draft the right guy. I don't I don't believe he needed that. I think he'll be just fine. Either way I thought that was so shortsighted. This is how pitzburg does it It's so annoying. This is a offensively challenged group No russle wilson entered justin field tube, you know did justin fieldsy things a couple plays here and there not consistent as a thrower But there they went six different field goals a dominant defense tj watt might be the best player in the nfl He might be the number one most impactful Just when they have him they're great at the on that side of the ball when they don't their mediocre. He is amazing With erin donald retired now. He is the best defensive player in the league That's for sure. Let's go to buffalo where the bills beat the cardinals 34 to 28 We got our first touchdown return with the new kickoff rules in this game a 96 yard touchdown return By dj dallas of the cardinals, but it was not enough buffalo trailed 17 to 3 at one point in the game josh allen 232 yards two passing touchdowns also ran for 40 yards and two touchdowns a four score game for him rookie debuting keon Coleman for catches for 51 yards as the new number one target in buffalo The bill's offense look different didn't it? Yeah, a little more balanced 19 carries 71 yards for james cook Kyler murray threw for 162 yards ran for 57 in a pretty good outing in a loss for the cardinals who are like the best Bad team in the league. Yeah, they're frisky. I don't have another way to say that. They're not good They're not ready for prime time yet, but they're also not pushovers. I mean last year They were in all so ran. They were just an easy w for whoever was on their schedule for the most part They are not going to be an easy out this year. They are they are improved. Certainly I thought they were the better team for probably I don't know three-fifths of this game overall, but Josh allen put his cape on that's really what this was when they were down 17-3 you touched on it Buffalo went on a two-minute drive and it was just josh allen doing crazy stuff taken Whether it was escaping whether it's design runs where there's bulldozing people these Flying over guys into the end zone just an absolute weapon They're gonna struggle for a little bit on offense because you mentioned it's very balanced There's no easy button restefan digs anymore So they had to spread it around a little bit but buffalo impressive come back in this one bares 24 17 survivors against the titans They move to one and o to start their season and they did it without a single offensive touchdown Caleb william struggled in his first game 14 of 29 passing for 93 yards the bears managed 148 yards of offense in one Figure that out 2.8 yards per play in a victory They scored on special teams punt return touchdown for jonathan oans the husband of samon biles And then on defense they got a touchdown as well A pick six by corner tyreek stevenson on a bad will levis decision So despite william's really scuffling the offense doing next to nothing and injury to roma dunes They would call to pass for 11 yards in his first game. The bears win 24 to 17 This is one of those strange games where nobody should feel good Right chicago shouldn't feel very good at all because their offense as you said was anemic It was beyond disappointing For example king and now it had 11 targets and only four catches for 29 yards They couldn't connect roma dunes. They now was weak to weak with a knee Caleb williams really struggled in this one Chicago's defense did more than enough and now we add in a pick six and a block punt They were for a touchdown, but for tennessee's perspective. They were in control 17 nothing They were the better they were dominating this game and couldn't get out of their own way Couldn't manage little things on offense couldn't just be normal couldn't punt the ball a couple different times That led to a loss. That's a bad loss, but tennessee's I don't think they're any good, but they're not terrible anymore This is one of those that really got away from them. We want should have been a win Yeah, shame. Aldrin's got to find some answers for the bears passing game and do so quickly Let's go to sincinati where the bangles did the bangles thing Yeah, they started a season with a really terrible loss and they looked gross in the process Give the patriots credit though. Nobody thought this team would win this game They knocked probably half of america out and survivor pools already. I know I was one of those people 16 to 10 final new england they win despite 121 passing yards from a fairly ineffective jacobie brassette He did run for 32 yards including a big 16 yard scramble in this game old friend and tony o gibson Had seven carries with a long of eight Of the main back for the patriots is still ramandre stevenson who went for a buck 20 and a touchdown in the win The leading receiver this will tell you a lot about the patriots offense leading receiver for new england in this game Two catches for 31 yards for tight end austin hooper. He caught a ball for 16 caught a ball for 15 and that was his day and he was the leading receiver for the team, but they had a Four sack performance defensively. They harassed joe burrow was held to 164 passing They kept jamart chase to 62 yards receiving 28 of that on one play and the patriots not the bangles Are the team that got to one and oh so to think star of this game is christian gantales He was incredible just absolutely shut down joe mar chase I don't expect that to continue throughout the season. I think chase gets the seed legs underneath them and ends up balling out Looking for a long-term contract in his own right, but you mentioned it. This is now known as the syncydaddy This is what they do. They start off very poorly They look dead in the water through three four maybe even five weeks and then as it bro is healthy They kind of come rip roaring back and beat up everybody Uh, so i'm not counting them out just yet, but that was a dreadful performance, especially on offense Patriots good for them happy for dried mayo that's nice to you know to to be thought of as an afterthought as a pushover You get a week one win on the road. No less good for him and good for them. They're not going anywhere They're not particularly good, but since daddy that's disappointing Yeah, and to the point on mayo he got the gatorade bass From his exciting players at the end of the game. He can tell they really really like playing for him Let's go to indianapolis where the colts had an early lead, but couldn't hang on 29 27 thrilling win for the texans at the colts in a good afc south match up the highlight from this game you'll see Is the Anthony richardson touchdown pass that traveled almost 70 yards in the air Office backfoot right off right after he had slipped in the pocket incredible moving to his left It was one of the craziest throws i've ever seen if you take that out of the equation He was basically eight of 18 for like 150 yards or something I mean, it wasn't a particularly good day, but he's got that in his back pocket He's he's got some physical traits that nobody else has The really good player at quarterback in this game was cj's trowd Who went for 234 and two touchdowns without any turnovers and the revelation here was My goodness the texans running the football show mixing 159 on the ground for joe mixon And it was a well-earned like you think about a guy going for a buck 50 It's probably like a 52 yard run in there or whatever his long was 13 It was just seven eight nine five six. I mean they earned it 30 for 159 for the bell cow joe mixon Nikko carland's building off of a breakout last year six grabs 117 yards and welcome to houston staphon digs he caught six passes and scored two touchdowns Indeed, this was a great game. This was so much fun I want these guys to do this talking about stroud and richardson for the next decade I want that to be the theme I want that to be the new rogers brady or whatever two totally different styles you touched on it richardson You got to live with some bad. You got to live with some overthrows You got to live with some missus you got to live with a couple things that aren't particularly desirable To get some of these incredible highlight plays him barreling through defenses Him trucking people close to the goal line had a rushing touchdown Uh that highlight throw that you mentioned where he slipped and fell and is almost all the way to the ground And throws at 70 yards on a line to to allak pierce Incredible incredible stuff and then cj straddish is the technician just cruel and malicious at times to where does the defenses? You think he got him in the grasp he's rolling out throwing back across his body breaking every rule But he's cool as a cucumber man. He's incredible The maimi dolphins were down 14 to nothing and 17 to 7 at home to the jacksonville jaguars But it was the dolphins getting a 20 to 17 win with a field goal at the horn from 52 yards off the leg Of jason sanders to win the football game Uh, the day started with tyree kill getting arrested outside of the stadium by police officers and it ended With tyree kill catching an 80 yard touchdown from two at tungavialoa to help get them back into the football game But here was really when this game swung jacksonville was up by 10 Late third quarter at the goal line trying to go up 17 and they fumbled into the end zone beautiful played defensively By miami to punch the ball out from travis etn They recovered it in the end zone and then on the ensuing couple of snaps from the 20 yard line that 80 Touchdown to hill and that 14 point swing Was the difference traver lorence just 162 and a touchdown through the air tank bigs b split carries with travis etn very interesting i'd say for fantasy owners bigs b Was better 73 yards etn had 44 did score a touchdown but also lost that fumble But to a 338 and a touchdown after his big contract Hill seven for 130 and a touchdown after getting out of hand cuffs and jalen wattle five for 109 he left the game with an injury Yeah, it was able to return though, right? He went he went out and came back in or was there something later on in that game? But I might have missed but uh, we have miami got off to that sluggish start beyond sluggish Just looked rusty. It looked like they weren't on the same page huge struggle for them down 14 nothing as you mentioned Late second quarter devan han runs in Uh from a yard out got them on the board, but you said at that 14 point swing where etn's gonna It looks like he's walking in looks like he's made done all the hard part All he has to do is kind of hold on and fall into the end zone paul gets punched out Moments later tirey killer 80 yards away that changed everything disappointing loss There for the jaguars kind of nice little gut check though for the dolphins, right? Yeah, I think that was the kind of game honestly there after it happens you're probably better It went that way and glad if you're mike mike daniel, you're happier I should say because you get to prove a point and you win a game totally one team that didn't have to prove any points They just dominated every facet of a game from start to finish was the saints no metal tested in this one They beat the panters 47 to 10 they led 30 to nothing and 37 to 3 before garbage time I don't know where to begin the breakdown. I'll just say with carolina. They looked horrific and brice young looks broken I it's way too early probably to just say he's a bust But he was terrible 13 of 30 for 161 and two interceptions And he was worse than that stat line. Like you're like, oh, he must have played terribly That would be a compliment. I mean he was worse Than the numbers on the other side dara car who had people calling for him to be benched before the season started In complete control for in completions three touchdowns 200 yards passing hit a 70 yard touchdown right off the beginning of the game in that performance He had who caught the receipt she he'd who caught the touchdown from 60 yards. I should say went for 73 Foster morot also caught a touchdown. Uh, the saints alvin camara 15 carries for 83 in a score Jamal williams at a rushing touchdown. It was kind of a you get a score you get a score game Oprah winfrey style just a personal anecdote if I may, uh my freshman year at the george washington university. We had a really fun game against the george mason patriots We won that game 26 to 13 letter runs were scored Everybody in our line. I've had multiple hits except for me. I was 0 for 5 That was the crystal obvious that line that ruined so many fantasy weeks two catches for 11 yards One a team of scores 47 points, but that's my only relative complained about this game The saints got a one double a team in their first week carolina should be relegated. They're not professional They're terrible. They're an embarrassment. I feel bad for a lot of these players They cannot compete at this level this time The Vikings looked really good in their win over the giants 28 to 6 Behind sam darnold who was dynamite 19 of 24 for darnold 208 yards two touchdowns and a pick he cooled off in the second half the game, but the damage was done They were already up big time. They led 21 to 3 in the arid third quarter Aaron jones who came over from green bay gives minnesota a running game Uh, they have 94 rushing yards and a touchdown to thank him for in week one And they got after daniel jones who was god awful I listened to some new york radio from yesterday after the giants game And the questions were is it time to bench daniel jones already? I mean, do they have to go to tommy devito should should they go to the bull pen? Basically, brian dable was getting those questions after the game After jones was intercepted twice including a pick six couldn't get the run game go in devin single terry 3.7 apop malik neighbors in his first ever game just five grabs for 66 yards He was their best player on offense next stop for the giants Northwest stadium in landover maryland. Yes northwest of the city. No, it's east of the city either way Uh, daniel jones had almost a negative point five epa per play that means every time he did something It was almost worth minus half a point for the new york giants in this game. He was terrible Uh, they're terrible and you know, they've got washing here this coming week from minnesota Great beginning for sand the sand darnold there. I I forget exactly what he started was like 15 for 15 or something in that effect I think I saw he maxed out at maybe 14 for 14 close enough ended up Only with five incompletions on the day. The offense looked like it had more in the tank if you wanted to uh, erin jones I thought was workman-like and impressive even the times and uh jostin jefferson four for 59 in the touch Speaking of debuts jim harbaugh is one and oh with the chargers He shows up you win football games and you run the football jk dobbins just ten carries He went for 135 that guys had more serious injuries that have ended seasons and keeps coming back than anybody I know The other former raven at the chargers have run in the football guss edwards also at 11 carries in the game Justin herbert caretaking 144 and a score through the air Lad mcconkey the rookie they drafted at wide receiver caught his first touchdown joey bosa had a sack on defense for the chargers in a 22 to 10 win over the vegas raiders This is a big 10 game. That's what it felt like right just workman-like nothing special happening on offense very low ceiling Having just an herbert play in this offense is like having a core vet that you just ride reverse around the cul-de-sac This is how they're going to do it though If they're going to hand it off to former ravens running backs check it down do a couple, you know Picker receivers on the outside of lad mcconkey work from the slot There's not a high ceiling on this offense But this is how they're going to play they're going to beat you up push you around and make it a pushing contest And they won week one of that against a worse version of that in the raiders Seahawks outlasted the broncos 26 to 20 a come from behind victory in the second half for seattle behind gino smith Gino in this game had a 34 yard russian touchdown Also through for 171 in the score through a touchdown past his zach sharbonay from 30 yards out Denver debuted bo nix e through two interceptions and really struggled yards per attempt minuscule One of just a few quarterbacks in league history to ever throw the ball 42 times and not amass 140 passing yards So they got work to do nix was also their leading rusher with 35 yards at the quarterback position on five attempts Oh, by the way, not a good first game for denver in the nix era with shawn paten in year two But for seattle a win for mike mcdonald who interviewed for the commanders head coaching job. They looked really good I was impressed with them. I mean it ends up being a You know 26 20 games. So it looks closer than it was seattle was by far the better team in this game Dix was running for his life had a couple scrambles here and there They got to have something down field. It's not in the cards right now though 33 17 final in cleveland where the cowboys Whooped up on the browns talk about games that were not as close as the score would indicate Dallas led 27 to 3 in the third and basically stopped playing Glitterally deck Prescott didn't throw it again. Really seedy lamb five for 61 press got got paid in the morning Then went out and threw for 179 in a score Dallas got a 21 yard touchdown from brandon cooks to get started then azical Elliott and his return scored from three yards out Brandon obry their kicker made field goals of 57 50 46 and 40 in the game They got a 60 yard punt return for a touchdown on special teams from kavante turpin I mean it was just a bloodbath the browns were bad and de shawn watson Stunk bad enough that there were callers on cleveland radio Asking about going and getting baker mayfield back and how much better he is then to shawn watson That's where we're at with the browns quarterback situation Yeah, the browns were a disaster in this one. Dallas deserves credit. They were the better team by far. They were dominant They were really really good. They had been a lot of teams Uh on sunday, but cleveland was just a mess The their offense was totally disrupted. They had no answer for mica parsons had no answer for anything Dallas was doing on both sides of the ball I thought cleveland would be more competitive in this to be honest with you I know they were they're weak at qb with watson and his current status But I thought defensively they'd be a lot tougher than than they played that was not a good performance Last game on sunday in our fastest 16 minutes here on grant and danny The rams played well, but it wasn't enough against one of the classes of the nfc The detroit lions win in over time 26 20 with bully ball and eight place 70 yard drive not Where david montgomery ran it right down l.a's throats for a win. He rushed for 91 in a touchdown Jibir gibbs added a score on the ground jameson williams broke out at wide receiver 5 for 121 and a 52 yard catch and run touchdown from jared gough golf through for 217 and that score that's dafford was really good 315 a touchdown Lone pick was in the red zone in the end zone Cooper cup 14 catches for 110 yards in a touchdown in a losing effort For the rams kyron williams scored for l.a rams already beat up man I mean they're going through line men pukinacu is going to be out for a little bit It seems like they were just running guys and that was a fire drill There give him credit though for forcing that game in over time detroit took advantage of a tired beat up group And walked right down the field the win that was as good a game as you're going to find That happens to the rams lot doesn't it always seems to right early in the season 2 it's like them in the chargers Something l.a. We will announce the winner and the loser on commander's survivor for week one In our final segment today speaking of winners and losers at the kicking position Pretty clear loser this week in dc. Kate york He has already been released after missing two field goals kicking a ball out of bounds on a kickoff And having an onside kick go awry the winner in that exchange austin cyber He is the new kicker for the commanders. So I guess what we could dive into now is have they solved this thing Or do we think this is going to be an all season long carousel danny? They had brandon mcmanis who they paid handsomely Allegations came out harassment assault. They said we're done with him Charges have since been dropped, but that ship has sailed it would appear even though he's still out of work Since then they have now run through four different kickers Including austin cybert who showed up yesterday Yeah, so one note on mcmanis the the suit has been refiled with the names of the plaintiffs They were missing the first time so there's so that process is being a new So I don't think anything has really changed from washington's perspective on that, but it's still important to note um Yeah, I don't think it solves at all. I think they traded kdork in for another kdork A guy that doesn't have a lot of kicking experience that's caught on part-time for a couple of teams and sort of that's been that and I think we're going to be doing this for a while They seem to want to find and I get this The next guy they can hang on to and develop and have have you know turn into their dude for a long time And that's all well and good But you got to you know brick a few eggs to make that almond here And that's what it feels like they're doing I don't think you can just cut kickers every couple of weeks who are missing kicks though And I don't think that's their plan and someone could say well They just cut one after one week who missed two field goals. What are you talking about? And I believe that the reason they cut kdork was because if he was on the roster They'd lose a draft pick and they didn't want to lose the seventh round pick Because remember they traded a seventh round pick for him Well, we didn't know until recently and this is sharp by their front office and by adam peters Was that it was a contingent a contingent and a conditional seventh round pick and ultimately They had the ability to pull the ripcord if it wasn't going well after a game And that's exactly what happened and they used their get at a jump free car So I don't think their plan is hey, we're just going to cut kickers every time they miss a couple of kicks That's not a position. I don't think where you could really do that to be frank It's a confidence position It's a you know Not looking over your shoulder or worried that your coach is going to call you into the the special team's office to tell you You're going home every time you do something wrong I don't think it's easy to kick when you feel like your job's on the line every time you take the field My guess is they're going to tell cybert. Hey, this thing's yours Where we're sinking or swimming with you let let's rock and roll and you give them at least Tell halfway through the season and reassess. Now, maybe if it's a complete shabingus Like if this is a debacle of epic proportions, we'll call it a bluit situation Where it's obvious that this person doesn't really belong you never want to go full bluit You can't do that, but if it's just a normal nfo kicker hit some misses some Has plenty of leg then I think they're actually going to let this ride If I had to bet right now today, I'd say cybert finishes the season as their kicker Oh interesting. Yes, so I would bet against that but I because I think it's on the plane that you just described They're not going to cut them next week But not doing a kicker a week and I I think they're too smart for that But I don't think it's solved either, right? This will be a six seven maybe even eight or nine game kind of thing and then then they'll then they'll just go okay We can't I mean he's got to be really bad in my opinion to get cut because like Guys like kade york, which is what he is essentially They miss six seven kicks in a year and teams just kind of gutted out hoping they have a young kicker with a nice leg That's kind of where we're at. I think that's probably The big picture playing with this guys, but let's let him kick even if he misses a few that's fine I'd like to think that that's the case because if you're again, they refuse to say the word rebuild That's what they're doing. They're rebuilding And when you're doing that you should have a young kicker on your roster without a lot of experience Who can grow into the position and grow with you and ultimately turn out to be pretty good Like like david acres in philadelphia years ago or you can sort of pick your guy So That's my hope is that they're patient, but I get the sense You know when when coaches are you know you're turning in the report card And you lose maybe a game or two because of it somebody misses an extra point or forces you into a decision And you're trying so hard to get the real football players to buy into your program And there's not enough positive reinforcement it becomes a symbolic move that that was the classic revere to me when the defense has a terrible game Well, we can't cut all these guys, but we sure as bloop can cut the kicker and we'll show you that it's not acceptable That's an easy sacrificial lamb. It's the kind of in season one other commander's note I want to play some audio on dan quinn discussing using two running backs together From the press conference yesterday. This relates directly to echler our five o'clock guest But you and I talked about how he was probably deserving of more Work and more touches just based on how he performed and it was one of the few answers we got in week one I'd say that now you can put something to bed like I think you and i all offseason kind of said We both thought echler had plenty left in the tank, but it's possible After last season, maybe that he's washed or he doesn't have the same ability he did four or five years ago To me he looked like austin echler this weekend four catches for 52 yards average five yards of carry on his two carries for four and six and The question came up. There were a couple plays where he and robinson were both out there There was a play I remember where he came in like jet action from like the slot And was I candy going one way and they used robinson as a battering ram going off tackle the other way Do they want to do more of that? It certainly sounds like it according to head coach dan quinn. Yeah, I think going into it It's always something you want to do each game will have a little different flavor What you're looking for sometimes to Ben is how do teams match up against that specific look But in order to find those match ups, you got to do them And so yes, I would say that is certainly one of the packages that uh that we really like Now you're on record. You want more austin echler how would you feel about If that means maybe robinson's not off the field It's just echler next to daniels in the gun and they got both of those guys out there It's not how I would do it, but I will trade a lot of things You know, I mean, I'll give up a lot as long as it means austin echler gets more Whatever they got to do We can do that. That's fine by me It's not it's not how I would design it I would just have austin echler on the field and you can hand it off to him one first down and throw to him one first down Or you know because brian robinson has proved he can catch passes adequately out of the back field as well So there's no you're not governed by this is this person's role. This is that person's role I think too many coaches get stuck in those kinds of ruts I just want more echler not overkill. You can't give him 25 30 touches a game. This is not a bell count on his prime This is not uh, you know a two thousand-yard agent peterson It's not that but this is somebody that absolutely needs to touch the football before the end of the third quarter Like it was this past and i'm very much cool with Both of them being on the field because For me my endorsement of echler is not at the expense of an indictment of robinson Which I'd say is more of kind of how you feel. I thought robinson was excellent as a receiver as well Yeah in the game. Um, he had a catch called back that would have gotten him over 60 receiving yards on four catches He had a 32 yard reception where he made a couple guys miss. I think that is something he can do It's a strength of his game. It's part of what he's going to be able to accomplish all season long offensively Is catching balls on those swings out of the back field and then that's not a guy That's fun to tackle in the open field. No, I I don't mean to imply that i don't want robinson to play either I just need more echler. So whatever i have to do to get that i'll do that Great and danny on the fan. We are at 1757 golf course today where there's a great event benefiting the wounded warriors out here in Ashford near the team facility and mark rippin is among some of the great former Red skins in attendance. I believe we're going to catch up with him next which will be a thrill and very very cool You're listening to the fan You Welcome back to the 1757 golf course out here in ashford near the commander's facility grant and danny With you on one oh six seven the fan and we are honored right now to be joined on site by A super bowl mvp super bowl 26 a multi-time pro bowler and one of the great red skins pastors In history the legendary mark rippin is with us on gnd and we are honored to have him On set with us here from this golf event. So mark, thank you for the time. We appreciate you Thanks guys. It's great to be on the show and also to be out here with these veterans what a what a moving experience. I think the cool part about this is that All these guys that are have have served our country and and The ultimate sacrifice, you know that they they give each and every day and to play with matt williams today was our medal of honor recipient and Nick leavenry and and what they mean to all of us and Uh, I think it really sets a stage here where we as as athletes and we play in our sport And we get to become part of the team and you see these guys and and how they were there They're the armed forces for the army navy marine core uh coast guard air force each one of these Armed forces are like a team too and and they have great stories Fun guys good golfers a lot of them and it's just a tremendous to be a part of this and help out What they're trying to do and that's help their families and of servicemen and women that are are doing what they Do for our country heroes and legends event out here benefiting the wounded warriors just an amazing cause you mentioned Stories, I always Having grown up listening to my mom and dad tell me so many stories about this Proud franchise. I love when you and some of your teammates and some of the greats and organizational history get together Because I'd imagine you guys can spin a pretty good yarn too. Uh our fishing stories get bigger and bigger That's right. It's it's great because I live I live on the west coast. I'm in spokan, washington So I only get out here probably four or five times a year in my daughter And her husband was lieutenant colonel marine core Uh, my granddaughter live up in baltimore. I'm rather daughter lives in orlanta So I get on the east coast quite a bit, but I enjoy coming out here and seeing guys like, you know Guy came in to the league with raven called well play seeing him play golf and support this great Movement that we're trying to do here and and to get out here and and watch them and and then see our commanders play everything And we're we're all we're all eager and excited to to see them get back on track and you know, it's a process I think as we all know jade and daniel's is pretty special if we can keep him healthy and And uh, you know, I think that's going to be the main thing. This is it You can't give up four touchdowns a baker mayfield expect to get into the playoff So we've got to tie some loose ends together there and and get back here and on our own home turf and play Well in front of our fans and get our fans and this community who I think was excited coming in here a little bit More excited about uh our football team more crap and with us here on grant and danny So what I want to touch on that mark going back to that post-87 magical run that incredible season Super Bowl there's a bill that has to happen and you I think it came on board 88 if memory serves right 86 Oh, there you go. Yeah, so but you saw kind of that transition to go from Not where you guys wanted to be to exactly where you wanted to be the best team in the NFL. He came in together I just I just told him that I just got done mentioned that raven Yeah, but they're they're kind of in the beginning stages that now coming off It sees that nobody was happy about you got new coaching staff new everything Going to that that where it's you know the light at the end of the tunnel exists You know where that is but getting there is really really hard. Oh, absolutely. The bar was high. Yeah, it was already high You know you had jt that thaisman and and rego that had won a super bowl They that that 82 team was probably the best team in the NFL that didn't win a super bowling and then to um see the The maturation of of those guys in 86 go through a strike here and a lot of us not even knowing if we're going to come back But joe gives uh word of word of a man of his word said, you know, you guys go out together you come back together You know and so we went out that strike here came back together Our replacement team was really really good You know and got us in a good position And then of course dug got hot in the in the playoffs and just rolled through the playoffs And we got darryl green's touchdown against the bears and stopping Darren nelson at the one yard line against the vikings and Those those things I remember like yesterday and I was in a sweater right in place down You know and script in plays and all that and and then do to roll uh denver in the super bowl after being down 10 nothing First quarter and getting that 42 or 35 points a golden quarter of the nfl And so dug was kind of my mentor, you know for the next couple of years and we played off and on together But he's very helpful and and one of the reasons, you know I had a lot of success was because jerry roamed Doug williams joe gibbs a very offensive-minded Head coach, you know and and we had the hogs and we were able to do the things that you want to do and Football anyway, that's run the football and and make plays off play action and that year in 92. We certainly did that. I think we obviously led the league and I don't think anyone's come close in the last 20 years to to making the big plays that we made that year and and we had special players, you know We had gary ricki and art The posse that were you know instrumental and along with earnest binder the hogs and and it was just a great group of guys Super Bowl 26 MVP mark ripping on grant and danny I always wanted to ask you about that season. It was nine sacks given up right all year I mean that's unheard of in any Standard but today, I mean that's just a number that it seems comical How much of of sacks do you say are that was a great line? Everyone knows that But quarterback driven to getting the ball out dropping to the proper depth I mean it seems to me like when there's a sack. It's immediately with a pass protection was bad There's a lot more to it than that obvious a lot more there's receivers running hot routes and running backs running hot routes Getting the ball out when you have to know and you don't have enough guys to block the guys that they're coming with and And then there's other times where they're running they're going to rush more but you got maximum protection and you got One-on-one with your receivers with no one in the middle of the field So all you have to do is get your drop make sure you get your set yourself and and make the throw So there's a lot of components to that, you know most most importantly our guys up front You're only as good as the guys up front our hogs are great Donnie Warren was a special part of that is our you know He's not a big pass catching tight end, but he was the guy in the running game and the passing game was able to block Lawrence Taylor and and uh Reggie white and your own brand. I mean there's there's great football players back then too and we had to have special Special protections against those guys game plan those guys understand when they're coming what they're doing So there's a lot of guys on the same page. We had smart players We had great athletes and the receivers were as big a part as was or in a spiner As far as blitz break-offs and all the things you have to have in order to not take a sack And I I didn't care it was like if my numbers were 57 I could have held on the ball and maybe thrown 70 percent, you know completions That wasn't what we wanted. We didn't want to get ourselves in a bad situation At any any point in time We want to put ourselves in a good third down situation Get rid of the ball if you have to make a play when you need it to and and we are all pretty good at that And so I and plus the fact our defense was so good They've got us in great field position a lot of the time and our our team is as a whole with Wayne severe and special teams Um, you know, richy pedable and run the defensive side and of course joe gibbs and what we did in the offense It was just a special year that year 91 92. So so you you mentioned this I'd forgotten you were drafted in 86, but then you know you played in 88 And it's just a different time now right where the instead of rookie sets foot on case He's the starter has to be and you know the clock has already taken because of the cba and the way contracts are But that adjustment guys don't have that luxury to wait anymore Jayden daniels, what's he going through right now and and just kind of you know related to your own experience and then what you see from him Well, you you want you want jayden danny's to be good last year when he wasn't even here Right. That's like, you know, what can you do for me right now, you know, that's that's the the the the narrative for the league right now I was fortunate. I've had some Questionable injuries my first two years, you know, they still nagging you the still by oh my goodness or you roll out Effect one was above a tire mark. You're supposed to be down. Oh, and then we'll jump back jump back up ready Get in the huddle of this mark. You're supposed to be you know a little hurt. Aren't you oh sore? So is that like IR stuff? Yes, yeah, so yeah, there's some you know some things that we were able to Manipulate a little bit to keep guys on IR and because they didn't have practice squad then so I'm very blessed because of that You know and and was willing to do whatever role that I had do to keep on the football team And then when my time came was was able to watch and that's that's a hard thing now for jade and dan He doesn't get an opportunity to sit there and watch, you know, what's happening how the plays are You know how how fast the game is, you know, what it's going to be like if he was in that situation I had two years to do that So when my time came I was I was more prepared than jade jade and daniels was but this kid's this kid's as gifted as they come I mean he's got more talent on one pinky than I did in my whole body and and uh again I think if we have to be good on defense, you got to get him the football, you know We can't be giving up 30 points, you know to a tap of bay buccaneers nothing against the buccaneers But we got to be better on defense. We've got to have get him the football get him more touches get our players more touches Get our skill players more touches and be good on special teams the special teams has changed now You see where kickoffs are going now I mean Everyone is out into these optics now where they saw what was happening during the preseason They kicked it in the red zone. They got it past the 32 to the 35 They said why not kick it out the back of the end zone. You're going to get it at 30 So that's what kickers are doing now. It's almost a waste of special team talent You know if you got great special team coverage guys They're being wasted by this new rule and and I still don't I don't understand it I don't know nor will I ever understand what are they going to do if it's an on-site kick I mean you're pretty much you have to tell before you have to tell there's no you got to tip your hand Yeah, so it's yeah to me. It's uh, it's kind of a crazy thing I don't know I think the NFL will look at it and see how this year goes But I do know we want to protect you want to protect the players We want to protect players from those massive, you know, 30 yard running down fields and Clyde and helmet to helmets Obviously we want to do that but got to be a different way of doing that What's your take as someone who all your great memories are at RFK stadium We're talking a lot about trying to get the team back to DC and the RFK site as opposed to Maybe something immaculate out by where their current stadium is Do you have a horse in the race or care much where the next stadium is? I care a lot. I mean, I just I'm just so far removed from it that I hope they get it in at RFK I hope they go back to that that site wipe the whole place up and build a brand new stadium there And let's get back to you know being what we were at one point in time You know one of the most dominant franchises in the history of the NFL And I think so if if we can do that and I think that'll also bring back some some memories and some You know a father and their son the son was being maybe 10 years old when we played then now he's 40 years old and his son's coming in the grandson of the The dad who brought his son to the game get them back to that area that place and that special place where Um, you know, we can reminisce and build something again because we're starting over from scratch with his newer management All been a proven winner in their other franchises would be 76ers and the devils and and soccer And so they've they they know they know where the formula is just get get us a stadium now and get get it back There at RFK where RFK site is and and get this fan base excited. I mean I almost it almost You know it almost hurt like 10 years ago to come back to a Cowboys Redskins game and see more cowboys fans in the in the stadium then it's that's embarrassing That's not what we're about and I guess we have to put a product out there We have to put a product that wins weekend and week out and is consistent and and I think I think we got the The people to do it. Now. Let's just get out and do it. We're still trying to get used to the name Is it growing on you at all? Yeah, it never will and never played for the commanders Um, I I absolutely support the commanders and what they're doing now, but I never played for them and you know, it's just The the day and age now that we we have to deal with and I just I just don't hope they don't lose the fact that we were Redskins And that's all why I played for that's all I knew and that's all um You know, we we Remember so, uh, it's this new thing that we're going to support these guys because that's the era We're in it. I was inside a few minutes ago. Danny and someone said that the commanders of legends are out there And who are they I was like, which ones? Yeah I'm not a commander legend. I'm not I'm a red skin legend. Oh, I'm a red skin lover. I'll say you can say we got you I love I love my guys. I love this guy ricki Irvin I mean, he's one of the best people and and all those guys they come back and they they play in our micky steel event We have out in queenstown and we get about 50 of these guys and they're so they mean so so much to us And ricki was a big part of that super bowl team and we love him and and uh, they're all the guys You know, they're just they're just mean a lot Have you had much interaction with josh Harrison company and what's it been like? Yeah, if yeah during uh, you know in kind of when they got the team and there's some stuff that they're doing in vegas I went out there and and got to meet josh and uh his brother and and you know They've invited me up to to new jersey. I've ever got there for devil's game or ever in filley, you know, and um But I just want to I want to support these guys in this team and and get these uh, this commander's football team back to Play in the type of football the redskins played back in our air. So we appreciate the time and uh, Danny, thank you awesome catching up with you and and just great to get to chat with uh the legends that that made this team still What it is now so many years ago. Well, it's fantastic these guys, but it's more it's better to be here with what we're doing here today And that's really really honoring these these veterans, uh, honoring our service men and women Um and making sure our families the families these service men and women Um are remembered and also taken care of and here's that's what this money's for us to help them You What a treat to have mark ripping on the show here on grant and danny just a few minutes ago if you've missed any part of the conversation Make sure you podcast it when we are done at the fan dc.com We're out at 1757 golf course today for a wonderful event good cause the heroes being remembered and the wounded warriors benefiting from many former Legends here in washington sports and football Getting together. What do we need to know about at lanta at washington? Well, I think it's a good thing to point out that the nationals have already won the season series against the braves this year That's the first time they've done that since 2017 Of course at lanta's been the class of this division for the past seven shows seasons The world series ring in there and a lot of division titles But you know, they've gone through a bunch of injuries this year So this isn't the braves team that we've seen Dominate this division over the past couple of years There's still a potent lineup, you know because the gore is going to have his work cut out for him tonight But it's not the same team that has dominated his national team for a while now And they've already won the season division the season series and the braves are now looking Uh to maybe miss the playoff for the first time since 2017 So the nats can kind of place spoilers to someone who has been the class of the nl east for a while now Yeah, you'd certainly hate to see the braves miss the playoffs thinking that during the game Yeah, it'd probably just be the worst i'd be upset all over the place if it was the nationals fault that that were to happen You mentioned mckenzie gore I mean, I'm doing the thing where I peek out taking that there's sunlight Before the invisible force punches me in the nose for the millionth time, but did mckenzie gore turn the corner here? You would hope so and I think a lot of the signs are pointing to that he has His velocity is up. He is mixing his pictures really well I know facing the marlin's is different than you know facing the braves tonight But he did carry a perfect bid Into the sixth inning last time out against the marlin's and an eventual loss that was not his fault He pitched really well against them and he has pushed well against the braves this year I think it's gonna be his fourth time seeing them and he's pitched the quality start. I think I close close enough Uh every single time. So yeah, hopefully he gets back on track finishes in season strong. He's probably got three or four starts remaining in the year Um, like I said the velocities back up on his fastball Um, he's been mixing in all of his pitches his change up looked really good. Um in Miami So maybe that's something to build off of as well Uh, but he does need a strong finish. These last three starts have been very encouraging. Hopefully these next three are just as encouraging Bobby since james would got called up on july 1st He's got 41 batted balls over 105 miles an hour fifth most in the league ninth most in all of baseball He's hitting 561 on those 41 batted balls And he actually leads the national league in his fifth and major league baseball with a 417 on base percentage Since july 27th, what have you made of james woods rookie season? I think he's everything that made him the number one prospect in the sport and um, he's made them You know why the national has made him the crown jewel of that one photo trade now Obviously there are a bunch of pieces that came over. You know, you just talk about mckenzie cj Um, and then a couple of pieces left in the minor leagues But james wood was the number one prospect in that and he's been the top prospect in the sport for over the past year And we're and we're seeing why all those underlying metrics I mean, I think his command of the strike zone has been as been fantastic That was the big worry coming into this season. Can you keep the strikeouts down? I know he has a good amount of strikeouts, but he is still just a rookie Destroy he's walking at a decent pace as well. And we you we talked about too before like how he he's getting kind of punched Out on some tough calls and not getting the right call. I think that he has a great eye In that strike zone. I think he's only going to get better there So, uh, you know top marks for james wood in his third first 60 games plus rather he finishes out the season Bobby. Thank you as always bro Yes, thanks guys. We will see you my friend hit that NFL sounder dares Okay, Benjamin round joins us to talk about the NFL bet I'm going to give you a couple of teams who lost in week one and you tell me if this is Just a fluke in week one or if it's a sign of bad things to come. All right. We're going to start here since sennady So I would say with with the bingles. I know we see the same song at the end of every year I think ever really poor EPA on week one type games Always kind of start off the eye and they fall but in saying that I do kind of feel this underlying tone that this could be different Obviously losing to what I would want the project to be though, you know, the worst team in football in week one Kind of gives up a lot of hope on that, you know, really soft schedule that they had going forward So although I was you know a firm believer in them kind of be spotted in a positive 2024 direction I very much think that you know, this is a pretty detrimental loss as big as you could potentially have in week one And they very much kind of need to figure it out and get together quickly I would say in order to kind of keep pace in the AFC north and the greater AFC at large All right two more Atlanta I also think this is kind of uh, you know, a similar vein of thought where in the point where, you know I think a lot of people are impressed with what they could put forth on paper in some ways everything coming together quickly You know, what's a tall expectation? I know the kids for a few seconds is really good But I think overall only putting up 10 points not a lot of production and any sort of fast to the play I I think the clear indication coming out of week one is that the the buccaneers and the team to beat me And I see self and I very much think that the falcon have a long uphill decline In order to kind of get back into relevancy and potentially even win that division So I think overall they're probably the team that I shift about the most You know going into week one to kind of come in out of week one here and last one cleveland Uh, I think you know Obviously what happens at the quarterback position is very much going to determine their outcome Uh, I I think that again I am kind of buying into what we saw in week one overall at that the defense was a little bit Probably overvalued from a betting market standpoint And there still was this wide question of what Sean Watson could actually be Very much the downside taste for the Sean Watson if that is the case, you know They are uh, you know setting up i would say to be the fourth best team in the AFC north And I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if they end up just finishing in that position Ben would you make of the back Prescott contract on sunday morning? Uh, it was it was in treating timing. I know we had kind of talked last week It was a situation that you know, I felt like if they did resolve Um, you know, it was going to be something that could actually, you know, speak to them actually being that you know having things in the right Uh train of area for you know the 2024 season I think the news and when it came out was kind of weird I think in some ways it was something that maybe was agreed to beforehand And they kind of held it close to the best for a little while But I think overall, you know dominated performance from the dialed cob ways, you know the whole narrative of them You know seemingly being a somewhat disarray I think is you know at least alleviated with both the cd lamb and that Prescott extension It does seem like the continuity aspect of what they're trying to build There's a foundation there and I very much think that they could be the team to beat me at ces because of the fact that they kind of have Uh, you know the long term outlook with both back and cd in place for sure Why were passing numbers down so long week one? It's it's a good question. I I think in some ways, um, you know there were still some explosive plays But overall, I think you know there was really only a few teams with a higher than average a dot I do think just in starting off, you know, especially in the trenches like defense is seem to Um, you know at least be able to kind of just go and create chaos really on the season I think get more refined from an offensive standpoint. I know it's not a trend that we you know See hold year in and year out, but I think overall it does seem like just from a league wide standpoint You know defense started just a little bit ahead of the curve But I think there will be a response, you know happening quickly and week two and I do think we're going to see You know totals and the passing in kind of spike here relatively quickly Benjamin, thank you. We appreciate you. Thanks guys. I'm a good show too, but you got it. Let's talk football locally And to help us talk about the commanders. We got our buddy kevin she and the kevin she and she and show her big takeaway from the offensive performance in week one was Oh man Jaden daniel's mobility not that it was a surprise but that you know Given kind of the game context and the fact that the defense couldn't get off the field, you know He tried to make a lot of plays primarily with his legs and that was exciting Hopefully the rest of it will come around. It was one game Uh, and I really am a big fan of brian robinson jr And i'm looking forward to see what he looking forward to seeing what he can do this year kevin What's your thoughts on this when when mike shanahan and company we're out of football further, you know They're a little sabbatical hiatus. We want to call it They came back with this revolutionary offense and designed this thing for griffin and changed the league to a degree cliff kingsbury is out of football i mean he's in college, but Uh, he comes back and it's the exact same cliff kingsbury offense through week one It seems like that we saw previously with him in arizona It's a lot of i hope the quarterback makes a play for me. What did you make of him in week one? I don't want to overreact, but i'm kind of overreacting Yeah, I mean, I think that's the biggest mistake we make every year is overreacting to the biggest head fake week of the season Which is week one. I mean, you know, you look at what he did in the best season in arizona they were very much reliant on james konner and chase edmunds and You know, it's certainly a quarterback who I would not compare To jade and daniels primarily because of the size. I mean kon america or muri is a little guy that really does Need to move around create passing lanes find spots off schedule Um, i'm confident that they'll come up with something I I think in in hindsight and kind of looking back at sunday And just kind of watching things a little bit more. There weren't a lot of people open Uh, when there were I thought i definitely thought jade and could have pulled the trigger a couple of times Bail the couple of times the second nate early in the third quarter kind of went backwards in the pocket Which was reminiscent of griffin, you know at times which i did not like at all he got hit you fumbled They recovered the fumble and there were definitely people open on that play But I need to give it a couple of weeks here More than a couple just to see what they do. We all kind of had concerns about their skill position players, especially at wide receiver Um, just like we had concerns about corner on defense. So they're gonna have to figure out ways to scheme around it I also would not be surprised if we look back at week one say in week 10 And realize they played a pretty good team, especially defensively Um, but i'm not overly worked up or Were concerned about anything that I saw on sunday I think I would be in the same boat with you in that week one is just the ultimate Misleader, right? It is a deceiving week a lot of the time Uh having said that I do think this was a super disappointing Debut for the quin regime and especially for the defense where you know, danny yesterday We argued about this a little bit, but he's like, oh, well, you know, the defense was the worst in the league last year What do you expect? I mean if you take john allen and doron pain out of the equation There were three guys from last year's defense basically on the field as starters I expected just a little bit more and at least maybe expected's the wrong word But hoped that some of the holdovers with better coaching would get off to a faster start Even though I realize it is just four quarters Yeah, I agree with that. I that was for me And again, it's one week. It's a big head fake week It's a head fake week because they don't do anything in the summer Especially when you have teams that are so brand new and loshies and might be the most brand new team In the league, but grand I agree with you because all off season. I thought, you know You're getting a veteran staff a defensive head coach. You're bringing in veteran players that are familiar With the coaching schemes in many places in many cases, whether it's wagner doron thronger Tower jr And I thought that there was a chance that that would turn around quickly and I still do think there's a chance It'll turn around quickly. You know, I don't know if you guys talked about this, but one of the odd quirky things that happened sunday is they were about the most effective defensive team in the league on first down And then second third down were disasters, but they had uh tamper in nine Second and ten were longers in that game Which is a pretty advantageous down in distance for for second down and yet they were horrible Um on second and third down. It was very disappointing You know, the other thing too is I didn't think that there was this, you know Identity, you know that they talked about the secret sauce that they talked about all summer about You know this this these player traits and what they wanted to be and you can hold us to this I didn't see the energy. I didn't see the you know the finishing You know, maybe chalk it up to a brutally hot day and a lot of confusion defensively certainly um But it's only one game. I'm not you know, there are no referendums for me on one game, especially week one But I do agree that I was expecting and still do expect a defensive turnaround Um that you know doesn't put it in the top 10 necessarily, but you end up with a much different situation than you had last year And yet on sunday, I felt like I was watching last year's defense You can see why we have kevin sheen on right because to be a grant and danny Guess you have to arrive violently know where your north is be where your feet are all of those things and you did it kevin Thank you, buddy. All right, boys Welcome back grant and danny on the fan on one oh six seven the fan We are out and about at 1757 golf course in ashford not far from where the commanders are training over at the facility today Austin echler joins us in a half hour the commanders running back who just made his debut With the team caught four balls for a team high 52 yards in the game Looking forward to catching up with him in about 30 minutes. If you've got a question for echler We're going to take a listener question throw it in the chat on the one oh six seven the fan youtube page or Send us your tweets if you're listening on the odyssey app or on the old school radio, which we love you know the whole thing At grand h paulson At funny danny, I will open up the phones on this 800 636 1067 and the mjm national harbor listener lines are going to be yours, but danny. I want to let you start Who are you most disappointed with from the commander's 17 point season opening loss with king's brain? It's not close for me Um, this is you had time to learn You had time to study you had time to adjust right in his you know supporting role Uh at usc last year wasn't the oc or it was kind of like this, you know special consulting assistant type guy, etc This was the time to study what makes you know your system vulnerable the time to figure out what you can do better What you would do differently you've known it's going to be jadon daniels for a long time What what needs to happen uh to maximize and protect in this office and they didn't do that So to me the the guy that was kind of out now was brought back in who had time to kind of reinvent himself Who's in the inner circles of uh some of the great offensive minds of our time, right? The he's in that cool kids club with mcveigh and the floor and kyle shane hand and and everybody else There's a lot to study there's a lot to pull from and it to me looked like clif king's brain's offense from a few years ago In arizona where tarema corns on one side not open not available because there's no other weapons to worry about so defenses can key on him Can bracket can cloud can do everything to bother him and not and make him ineffective And not much interest in you kind of spread them all around the other playmakers The same complaints i had for years while this offense was terrible if i'm going to be terrible in offense I'm going down feeding tarema corne in my next best playmaker If my office is going to be bad enter week number one I cannot live with myself if deep into the third quarter There are two touches combined between austin echler and tarema corne I can't it's something that drives me crazy if i'm going to lose i'm going down that way They seem to content to not go down that way to hand it off to pryan robinson to thump it in the line of scrimmage I just need my playmakers with the football. He didn't do that So i love that answer it's it's an easy answer for me to think in top of my head He comes to mind first or second i'll go in a couple different directions though Stay in the coaching vein for a moment Dan quin Dan quin so many shades of revera In the game management in my opinion forget that it was a just a fairly listless performance And you were down by 23 at the end of the game and the defense was a disaster Everything i just said sounds like a year ago, right? You couldn't stop a mediocre quarterback Your secondary was getting torched by outside wide receivers. I mean it was all shades of 2023 but One of the things i was really hoping for was that game management stuff would be a lot better And i did not think it was for one game Not going to make a huge deal of it. We're just evaluating the one performance or were we disappointed by Dan quin There was a fourth and three at the 29 yard line early they decided to kick a 40 Yard field goal with a kicker who had a bad You know pre-season enough to not have made a roster and who wasn't kicking in the league last year That's that's a go situation in my opinion fourth and three 29 yard line 2024 the year of our lord. We're going there for that. That's pretty obvious to me intuitive didn't do it Had a situation later in the game. We had a chance to go for a two to cut a deficit to one possession He went from 10 to 9 with an extra point to keep it a two possession game He explained it after the game and talked about why he did that and we can get into the explanation Not a huge deal. I don't think it in and of itself standalone was the worst thing ever But it was just another scenario of kind of passive over aggressive right being just kind of a guy I was gonna let the game come to you rather than taking it to the game I had four years of that. I don't want more of that. I'm sorry. I'm just I'm over it. Um, and there were other situations along the way where Whether it was a fourth down decision or little things here or there. I'm going This feels like the last couple seasons Uh, so Dan quin not to mention and maybe this was where I was being unrealistic I just thought That I would immediately see something different Fun about the defense like how they used guys and move guys and there'd be weird formations that I've never thought of They'd have guys standing up like all 11 guys are just standing over the ball or they're running in a circle before the snap Like the chief's doing offense. Yeah, you know, it's something that I'm doing stick But like I thought we'd see something. Mm-hmm. We were sold all off season Him and wit they're different. They're better and I think they are in fact I know that this coaching staff is better than the last one. I promise I'm we all get that But you wouldn't have known it if you just turned on your tv at 1259 on sunday And I think it's okay to acknowledge This is a process. It's gonna take time No one's saying you had to get it right in week one But if you're asking me who was I disappointed by in the first game? Dan quin? Yeah, it would have been it would have been nice to show some of it In week one nobody's saying it's a finished product again. This is a this is a team I picked to go seven and ten Right the overunder for for vegas is six and a half depends on your book So nobody's predicting a world beater here Everyone understands and it kind of the place and they're on their way and hopefully trying to build something and change culture and Into a lot of those sorts of things But it would have been nice if some of the rhetoric matched the play We are arriving violently and and and we don't want guys that they're not commanders And we've moved on from somebody that did granny didn't help philadelphia Very much in in week number one in jahan dotson But for receiving core that had multiple guys untargeted by the way. Why was no a browning active? We haven't talked about that. I know you know, I mean, it's like I want some of the the promising And I know they're at the podium for a lot of minutes and a lot of questions They're answering a lot of things. I just want some of it to match sometimes Look again, the team I always harken back to gp's not one of the super bowl teams Not who mork rippon was talking with us about but when gibbs came back that first time Or the really for the second time right in 2005 or what it was oh for all the years run together Anyway, that team wasn't one real good But oh my god. They scrapped they thumped they beat you up They the next week you were probably losing because you were limping into the training room for the for the entire week That team grinded and competed and gave every ounce on the field you could tell and again They were limited they weren't great. But give me that if i'm gonna lose I can't be down 37 14 to tampa bay. And now we're pretending that they're uh an elite team in the NFL and it's okay No, no, no, no, no. I can't have that I was perfect. I picked them to lose. I even picked on the confidence points I bet money on it for god 6 that they would lose the game Not like that Not have the doors blown off So the defensive rhetoric when you hire defensive coach who brings his top defensive lieutenant with them Uh from from uh from dallas and they bring in a bunch of defensive players The defensive captain type guys and the bobby wagners the louvers of the world you bring in jeremy chin You wouldn't think it would be that bad. It would just be nice if one time the rhetoric matched the performance. I'll give you one more How about a manual forbs? Now My expectations for forbs were not overly strong or anything I think we mostly know what we're getting But there was a little part of me. You know clary was joking yesterday about this voice in his head Well another voice where the voice in his head was telling him Maybe the commanders are going to be really good like if it works right before kickoff He's like what if they just beat the bucks and jadon's a beast and you know They're on their way to like 11 and six That little voice in my head on a manual forbs was What if a lot of it was the coaching staff and usage? And he just comes out here and picks a pass off and has four pbu's and looks like a different guy What if and he did not do any of those things What he did do was grab a guy's face mask as he ran past him for two penalties on one play For 30 yards worth of penalties on a p.i. And a face mask and got benched and also hurt I'm not trying to beat the guy up. There's enough people doing that, but it's hard not to say i'm disappointed Game one year two new regime I went out to ashburn and watch practices and interviewed him and he talked about last years in the past I'm moving forward. You're going to see a different version of me And I just kind of left that open to possibility and i'm still going to give him a little more time But my goodness was that a bad first impression for year two Yeah, the we talked about this yesterday just to a degree I can only have disappointment when I have expectations So in other words if if I got a kid who makes something but f's and he comes home with another f I'm not happy about it, but i'm not disappointed Right, but my a student who comes home with that with a d minus on the quiz because he didn't read the book or whatever Now i'm disappointed I got no disappointment left for manual forbs. I already gave it the office I last year's my disappointment here that he's not christian gonzales or he's not, you know An offensive player or a lineman or somebody that could have helped him I'm kind of resigned So if he plays well if he does the thing that you're several of prognosticate or even hope for that he's legitimately that he belongs in the nfl That's me he's a bonus and i'll i'll trade it accordingly, but yeah I but I hear that one to ignore the fact that he didn't play well to the point that he got benched for yet again It's hard to ignore that i was just open to see signs of life i get it and i was hoping to see Maybe some growth and improvement beaters came on the show a weeks ago, you know really backed him and said we like the Way he's developed and how much better he's gotten and perhaps we'll see that and it's coming But it certainly didn't against the bucks A question is yours right now on the mgm national harbor listener lines 800-6-3-6-1-0-6-7 who are you most disappointed in after that week one lost by 17 points to tampa Austin echler in 20 minutes grant and danny with you on the fan Grant and danny on the fan welcome back out to the course of 1757 and ashburn off wax pool by where the commanders train We told you there were some dignitaries and celebs roaming around today We just had mark rippin on the show make sure you podcast that at the fan dc.com And right now we are joined by one of the most iconic sports voices in this town's history The guy that made me a wizards fan steve buckets will you be podcasting this as well? We will be yes podcasting Bit our producers setting up youtube right now. Wow. You can see you That's the real deal here. I mean, this is not some rinky dink operation when you join the great You guys don't play around let's go number six market buck. My first job. You could yell further than the signal Was you know, but this is better. It's been too long. You look great. Thank you in the clubs today. How you been? I've been fine. I've been good a lot of fun playing with these guys, you know, the name of the tournament is the heroes and legends and The guy these guys are heroes. You know, I mean what we do is You know knuckleheadedness these guys are real heroes Protecting the country and doing what they do and it's this guy right here killing it Killing it. Are you staying? Okay, great to see you man All these naval academy guys and uh, in fact, he played football his name is forward Higgins He played center for navy. That was the center. That was a center. That's a knowing to me box 70 pounds Yeah, he lost and he showed me pictures of him when he played at navy and he was a big Well, of course he was yeah And you know and then I did navy for seven years on the radio So we were talking about army navy games and how special it is and all of that and it's just these guys are fabulous By the way that game's coming too. That's so weird to say north west stadium Stadium is north west. It's not commander's field anymore. It was until about three weeks ago They got some naming rights Change it every week. Yeah, I'm gonna call it the x uh, danny calls it nubs field nubs field It's just that the stadium. You don't want to be at but it's the yeah exact that games I've been there the pageant tree. It sounds you know cliche to say but no it really is an emotional incredible thing It's unbelievable. I try to go every year now. It's great. It's um, it's hard to explain it to people and and he and I We're talking about it whether for me, uh, you know blessed to broadcast a game But but for him to play in it. I just said to him, you know What is that like where you're literally beating the hell out of each other for three hours? And then you go stand with these guys that you're going to go to battle into battle with in two weeks or whatever and uh to be to do those games Uh the the hair on the back of your neck stands up I mean it is dramatic because you're representing, you know our military both every side of it So it's really a fabulous game to do. What do you make now as a guy that's been around and been so associated with DC sports for so long What are you going to make of our current landscape? Just give me a big 30,000 foot view picture whether it's teams fans engagement the whole nine yards Where are we at right now because I was having a tough time quantifying. Yeah, it is difficult to quantify it because We will always be a transient sports town Because of washington dc. You got people from new york come in here. They come from all over We still have our hardcore fans obviously, but we will always We'll always be in a situation where we go to a Nats game or a wizards game And it's unheard of now to go to a commander's game I say now in the last 15 years and have more fans from the other team there You know when you go to a nats game against the fillies there are more fillies fans there and it sickens me Wizards games whether it was the nicks the lakers the seltics or whatever team the bronze james was playing again Right more of those fans and it nauseate me, you know because I grew up here So it really made me and when I grew up here to dc stadium then rfk stadium That never happened there were never stealer. No, there was never anybody else from the other team there No stealers fans no cowboys fans all of that. So that's always going to be Unfortunately Who we are even though we want a world series. We want a Stanley cup We've won three super bowls and we want an nbh championship It's always going to be that way having that said The football team just makes it so challenging for us because as much as we love the caps who are perennial winners You know the wizards we deal with You know the nats Rebuilding as much as we love all those teams and and the mystics and everybody else This is a red skin town. This is a football town and we are waiting for this thing to turn around and Silly It's been what 20 wins it was 91 was our last super bowl. Yeah 33 years I mean there are having 11 games since there are young people that really that don't know we we had a good football team here once I'm 36 my earliest memory of the football team is 1994. Okay Now again, I got three kids in a mortgage. You know what I'm saying like that we just talked to mark rippin Yeah, I never see mark rippin play. I mean I was a baby in a diaper. Yeah, I don't remember it I've seen the highlights. I mean I know all about mark rippin. Yeah, my mom and dad have told me all about all of it Sure, but I mean it's not like i'm 20, right? I'm I'm almost 40 No, well and and and I am Substantially older than you and covered those teams and was blessed to cover what I call the glory years the joe gibbs years and and ripp and all of those guys and So back then and again, it's hard to explain this to young people But back then not only did you expect to go to the playoffs You you know the the super bowl was a legitimate reality every year and it hasn't been that way since like say for 30 some years and it's hard to explain that to people and What kills me about us and it's not just our our city. It's every city In july in august when we get going, you know with training camp and no tas and all that stuff You you glom on to whatever positive you have a couple of years ago We were supposed to have the best defensive line in football. Well, that didn't happen And then last year, you know guys are picking seven and nine or whatever the you know, we win four games This year we got a new quarterback who's a hystmetrophy winner You got this guy and that guy and this guy and maybe we'll get Better as that's you know season goes along But that game the other day was not anything And it's rebuilt. They're rebuilding totally. Yeah, but it was that was a tough watch Steve buckets on great and danny. I want to sneak in kind of a nerd broadcaster thing here As someone who loves play-by-play and studies it wants to do more and more of it What where do you think we're headed in the industry? I've always said I think radios fairly safe Although during covid some team stopped traveling their broadcasters, which I hated But the local element we're spoiled with some really good groups here including charlie and dave right here on the fan Absolutely every night for the nats, but the local rs n's and the tv's I grew up you and phil were More important for me than most of those wizards teams and the same thing currently still with joe bian locker Yeah, like where are we headed? Do you think and I don't mean in dc, but globally Like 15 20 years from now. Is it a la card on an app? I mean is Our broadcast teams are are we keeping and paying guys that can be around for 30 years? Like how does that gonna work? Well, I I don't know if I can answer the question because I can't see 15 years into the future I don't know what technology is going to be like. I see how it's changed to a certain extent But for the for basically it's the same you have your hometown broadcasters And as you said, we have some of the best really in the country. I mean, there's nobody better than joe bian locker charlie and dave on the radio are fantastic um You know dave johnson doing the wizards games with glenn concert or you know i'm talking radio right now obviously tv with joe bian locker and And the red skins of the commanders are um network guys, but the radio you know with You know, everybody with bram and and those guys is also great We've we've got you've looked at some of the broadcasters that have come out of this area. Oh, yeah, james brown Tim brant tony roberts Uh, I mean I can go on and on scott van pelt. Obviously who was my intern at channel five guss johnson was my intern at channel five Um, we've got some great guys that have that have gone on to do what they do. I don't You're always going to have a tv broadcast. I think I mean, maybe maybe it'll be different But I think you're going to have a tv broadcast and it's going to be on somebody's Network whether it's ted who bought nbc sports washington and it's now monumental sports Or it's massing or whatever there's going to be an outlet for it. I would think on tv somehow And there's always going to be radio. So those guys are always going to be around I just don't know how the the visual medium might change But I think you're always going to have to watch it somehow and listen to it somehow don't you think i think so For sure. I mean, yeah, especially I just don't know how you'll get it like in other words There are now teams where the only way to to watch trying to think of it was the nicks who did this first But basically it's like a la carte You could do a game like six bucks for that game a month for these games and it's more on an app You know rather than a true rsm. I think a baseball where a lot of I can't remember which one of diamond. I think it was Bally. Yeah, they went under so mlb took over and basically streams the games and runs everything through their own Offices. Yeah, it's just it's a changing landscape and I can't help but wonder You know, what's it look like in 10 years? I think what's changed boar in my lifetime has been local sports on tv Um, oh my gosh. Yeah, I mean it's nobody has local sports cast. Well, we do. I mean we have guys You know four uses obviously, you know, but jp and Seven s scott and he's good and and nine now has chick doing what he's going Sort of full circle and coming back to doing what he's doing But back in the day before there was really I mean there was a spn but back in the day I say my day with glen barenner and george michael and frankersog and all the weekend guys You got your sports. You got your redskins coverage from us You didn't get it from espn or some app on your phone You got it from the local guys doing sports at channel four george michael used to get more time than anybody in the country To do sports on a monday after a redskin game And they measure the time in blocks from six to seven. So six fifteen six thirty six forty five He would get the entire final block from six forty five to seven That's unheard of that's 15 minutes. They'd have a commercial in between there That's unheard of glen would get whatever he needed seven eight nine minutes On a monday. It was outrageous. You didn't see that in any other market in this country And of course you don't see it now now guys are getting two minutes. Maybe two and a half whatever one I like I mean, but they're like channel five is going to come they don't have us like sports Right they have like news people read the sport four to the same four use guys from from our you know Comcast sports net right to do stuff Well now our our guy JP. But is right a freelancer who goes in and does exactly exactly it used to be there were departments And that's not a word. Oh, we had a great sports department at channel five And I had so many guys come through there as I mentioned van pelden and and and guss and chick And then all of our producers ernie bower joe yeshroff and frank chryssifoli and larry devol And I'm you know go on and on and on and name these guys and then you know after I left you have You had bret haver for a year or two then dave feldman came, you know guys that are legitimately great sports cars Now our buddies like heather mcdone it does six people's job Right occur when the photographer is like at nine. Hey george's thing. Listen back in those days You know when he had the sports machine You can't do a show like that unless you have the full support luckily they're an nbc. Oh, no They're an owner owned an operated station So if they're going to put on a half hour or an hour show whatever sports machine was You have to have full support of the network. You can't just half acidly do that show You got to have the full support so it was him and wallie brockner and you know scott before that and That was a great show because they produced it the right way So they had some we used to kid, you know george would have like six interns Watching satellites to give him the best video that he could have and I was lucky to have one intern to watch five games You know, but you got you got what you got and then glenn of course was the best I ever saw And in any market and i've been in 30 markets seen 30 markets traveling with the wizards Never seen anybody like glen brenner He was somebody that I would urge our fans if you if you don't know who he is or you haven't seen him or you don't know about him Google him and he had this town You know by the past yeah, you know he he was something and when he passed away We all I mean everybody let every station led the newscast with it It was phenomenal and he was the literally the funniest guy and not trying to be funny He was just naturally funny and when we would go to carlile to cover the red skins They would be out there practicing and all the sports guys would stand on a tarmac and tell jokes But glenn would have you on the ground laughing. He was the funniest dude. I've ever seen on tv Legitimately him and gordon peterson were the absolute best And you'll never see that again in any market. He was the best buck. It was great reminiscing You two guys love listening to you guys. I appreciate you buddy. Mr. Barkley. Nice job That's d buck ham Austin echler of the commanders joins us next on gnd Grant and danny on the fan. Thank you for making this show part of your day means a lot. We appreciate you We're spending the afternoon out at 1757 golf course by the commander's training facility in ashburn Talk to mark rippin a former super bowl mvp today. We're just joined by steve buck ants You can find those interviews at the fan dc.com Podcasted when we are done But as we've been telling you throughout the show all season long on Tuesdays at five o'clock We'll be joined by commanders running back austin echler who joins us right now for his first Appearance of what will be 17 conversations this season. We are so thrilled to have austin as part of our show Great to have you back on the program with gnd mitt here man. How are you? What is going on fellas looking forward to it all year man I'm excited. I like doing these weekly shows because I know I get to build the relationship with you And anyone else you bring on to the show and it's always always been a good time So looking forward to it now. We're pumped man. It's an honor Uh, what's the mood of the other troops here after week number one man? How's everybody feeling? Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, it was not the outcome we wanted Um, you know, we want to see a lot of things improve and that's that's what we'll get back to work doing It's it's also week one Um, so there's a lot to kind of build off folks from things that we need to learn from and I think that's what dq Really hit on and I think that was really important is that this is learning and you have to Treat it like that treated like this is something we're gonna learn from come back and get better from because if you don't then it You know, it doesn't mean anything and you just got your butt kicked for no reason But hey as we continue to learn get stronger The NFL is not getting hot at the right time and what does that mean? That means continue to come back watch the film We call it call but at least um call it um Tell the truth monday right take the coaching take everything that we can and they get back out there and and You know try to fix it for the next week and continue to build into what will be our hopefully our final product at the end of the year Where we're we're on a roll. So Um, I know we have some other questions, but I'd love to get into it. I'm looking forward to yeah I keep talking about week one. It was good stuff. I mean, I can just jump into it if you want, but Um, what else go for it? Yeah, so I I think something because everyone's gonna, you know, I think I don't know how jadon do I think it was all a lot of great things from jadon Um, it was also his first game and just I remember my first game as a rookie And everything kind of went faster and it was like a surreal moment Uh for me, uh, I can't obviously speak for jadon But I think that's one of those things that as a rookie you get into and you're like whoa like this is it and um, it's not that you necessarily try to do too much, but you like Like you're just it's going so fast. These things aren't necessarily clicking like they have been in like practice with things Maybe a little bit slower. You can never simulate the actual game day. So looking forward to him I'm loving what I've seen that man can absolutely fly I'm never I've ever seen a fly like that. You know, I practiced and so to see him really running like that Okay, like this back and run Uh, but I know you know dq came out and said it today You know, like we don't want to live in the world where he's running 16 times a game You know, that's that that's what I get paid to do That would be rapid to pay to do and the receivers and our tight end So looking forward to seeing him come and bounce back and put another week together and the growth in that first one Along those lines, you know, I don't mean jadon specifically, but just kind of broadly austin As fans and media on the outside look we have no idea what to expect going into week one We think we know some things but nobody really knows anything Is it like that at all even in the locker room where you guys are mostly practicing against yourselves? I guess now in these years here in the 2020s you also get some of those joint practices But the preseason is I mean, there's not a lot to it. You're not game planning You might play a driver too. So I guess you get ready to play a first game Do you guys really know your strengths your weaknesses where you're going to get exposed where you're going to dominate or or is it also like a Learn on the fly thing for you guys too I think I think it's both. I think, you know, you as an internal team know, hey, this is what we're good at This is the players that we have Um, and you know, you have to look at kind of the profile of what your team is what's the identity there But at the same time you're also in a new year. So new players can be doing new things Um, like for me instance, when I was a rookie, I was really a special teams guy in my rookie year And then the next year I started playing more offense and then the third year for that I was actually starting for a few games And so like you never know the progression or you know how people have improved or how people have kind of changed So at the off season what you really have to wait and see as we get going into games And one game is definitely not, you know, an identity setter where like, oh, this is how it's going to be because if it was that way Then, you know, you'd be a lot of, you know, bad football in, you know, in my opinion There's a lot of a lot of mistakes that don't happen at the end of the year that are happening at the beginning of the year So a little bit of both I would say Austin and Austin Eckler with this year on Grant and Danny that first catch Where it looks like, you know, it's a check down on third down and you break a couple tackles make some guys miss Bursting forward. I'm going oh, hell yeah, and then you're charted off to the sideline How do I get more Austin Eckler touches or is it something to stick aside, buddy? Is it is it all sincerity where after a little while you might feel comfortable? You know, maybe tug it on a sleeve of cliff Kingsborough. I mean like, uh, you know, I've got some ingredients I would like to cook please. Is there is there any time where you feel like that could happen? Hey, well, you know, after that one I was I was just tired so I needed a break Okay, the thing is look, look, we're getting a rhythm going. We'll see kind of how things play out You know, we got we got some playmakers on the On the field, you know, we want to see some other guys, you know, get the opportunity to make those as well But when they come your way you got to be ready for them and you know on that play in particular Like it's back to you know doing what I do is that's how it made a living in this league, you know First I was with Phillip rivers and so I caught the ton of balls. I I've I've had a you know, 970 or 97 yard season 107 catch season like I've made a living off of just check turning checkdowns into the chunk plays like that So uh one thing you can look forward to is more of that for sure Yeah, that was four catches for 52 yards in the debut on just four targets for austin ekler Maybe we could turn up the faders on those targets a little bit. You're leading receiver going into week two For the washing commanders austin ekler We were actually talking about that today and it's like, yeah, that's great. No, but hey, we got to get we got to get these other guys Accubate I want to carry ripping them, you know, we want to see, you know, earths running down there because Look, it's great and all for us as a running back to right get catches and stuff like that We also run the ball Obviously, but you want your receivers that are going down the field making those plays leading your leading your team in reception So um in receiving yards. So looking forward to seeing these other guys get activated as we keep going here through the season When you came on the show a few weeks back We asked you like who's the the slept on guy fantasy wise and you said, you know, I feel like people are are thinking i'm done Basically, you're like I think i'm gonna have a good season. So we had our grant and danny listener league We had a you know, bunch of listeners 14 listener league come out at a big bar and christen took Austin out because she's like you've got to tell Austin I listened I took him. So christen's got you on the roster She got 9.2 points in the receiving category from you this week score But joking aside, I will say that It seemed to me like on that first catch you answered whatever there were as far as questions like You said basically after last year a lot of people were questioning how much is left or or was it an injury? Was it this was at that to me that was open field elusive evasive Wiggle austen echler you looked like it was six years ago I mean, yeah for sure first. I'm still my 20s now. So everyone needs to calm down here Um, but you know how running back years go like 28 is a running back people act like you're a 40-year-old Senior citizen on arp right though, right? Well, here's the thing in fantasy you're judged off of your past season, right? And so obviously last year high uncle sprain was dealing with that all year and then our team our team Which is not connecting like we thought we were going to so that is now People's last memory of me. And so now it is a new opportunity for me to go paint that hey, okay, Austin can still play It was funny. Actually, I'm gonna discord with washington Fans because I just I love to be around fan communities and they're like hey actually kind of was a little fast out there It's like I guess you still got some speed up like that's crazy like you guys thought of just Like I just tanked and now i'm just an old man out there and can't run anymore Um, but like I said that was the last memory about me. So now it's hey, let's go repaint the picture I've watched you a lot But I never studied as close as I do now that you're on the team that I cover and watch back the all 22 and all the stuff It's fans. We have access to now dude. Is this a common number of walloped hits like you got destroyed a few times It was like you got caught on like in body lane moments I mean it was just like that's not a normal day at the office right that there was some big time hits One thing you'll learn about me is that i'm very compact I'm also very light. Well, not not very light. I'm just lighter than most of the guys that are hitting me Let's say that so being compact and being light is uh, is a tendency to bounce off of things Sometimes the better okay, sometimes not so much Right What's that so my six-year-old sons like that just a lot of is small and compact bounces off a lot of stuff Exactly exactly. So like your son, right? We're we have things in common. So here's what's great about it Is you bounce back up because you know, they think they just you know, you know trucks stick to you and they might have But guess what for you being so compact like you just you felt the fun and got pushed a different direction and you know Ended up falling down on that one. So yeah, it's it's gonna be something You'll see just because of the nature of my my physical makeup But hey as long as I bounce back up no big deal No doubt, but kidding aside Like what does it feel like and I guess after you have two carries and four catches for a guy in your career Who's been a bell callot points? You probably feel like a million bucks But if there is a week where you're getting say 17 carries eight and nine catches in your career I mean are you going up steps that first morning or are you like a sleep on the couch guy like what does that feel like on your body? I was telling my wife like ah like the worst thing in season is flipping stairs because my It's not my upper it's my ankles, man My damn ankles that are like sore every single morning. I gotta do this like little routines stretch them out But then going down the stairs that just so dang sore But all the bumps and bruises in the legs and the shoulders and like right now like my oblique is you know A little bruise or feels like a little funny, but after a couple days they'll go out It'll go away. You kind of get used to it as a football player. I've been playing this sport for like 22 years And so every year in the fall and getting beat up But it's just kind of part of the the toughness part of it. So it's what it is Austin Eckler with the sear on gnd every Tuesday at 5 p.m Austin, it's it's a new everything right like you're new Most of the team is new coaching staffs new gm everything. It's kind of this all brand new deal How long should fans? I mean we're not a patient lot as as fans short for vaticle But when do you feel like hey we're this is when we should be in a rhythm as an offense when it should be second hand When it should be you know comfortable and commonplace and you guys kind of have established yourselves Who you are what you want to do a week in a week out? What's kind of a normal time frame? I wish there was just a black and white answer like oh four weeks and this is why But we have so many new things that yeah It really comes down to us as players and it comes down to us as coaches And look we have a rookie quarterback right that's something that you know he's has he has a lot to learn Like that's just what it is. So some learn faster than others and it depends on us around him too Are we protecting this guy? Are we getting open for him? Are we running the ball effectively like how how quickly is that coming together? And Are we continue to progress? Are people staying healthy? That's another one right? Are we having the same guys on the field building that mesh? And look I honestly can't tell you obviously you want it to be sooner than later, but that's not the reality of football football I think is you go out there. You give your best shot. Sometimes you'll lose a game Sometimes you'll win a game and you didn't even play at your best or play a solid game But it's who can who can sustain the highest level of play and not make the smallest day because how we say in Our room is games are lost not one. So who can sustain right the level of competition and level of play where you did enough not to lose And so because it's really competitive, right? It's the margin of air is so close because there's such a good high level of competition Though it's really hard to tell um, you know good game bag games It might have been a misstep and that made up made you give up a sack and it's like well Is that because you're not meshing well? No, because you're technically so there's so many different factors. So Time will tell I there's no answer to that if there was an answer to that. I would be a head coach right now, you know That'll have to wait Hopefully for a handful of more years austin echler here on grant and danny first of a season's worth of appointments with us At five o'clock on tuesday's i was thinking about this when i was watching the friday night game In brazil and i just wanted to bounce this off you Footing for running back for a skill guy. It was obviously terrible in that particular situation where they were playing an international game But do you handle all that pregame when you run out onto the field and kind of determine what you're going to wear Is it always pretty much the same thing that you default to and then grass versus turf? Like what are your thoughts at this point on on some of those kind of surface debates? Yeah, I think the international games you're going to get obviously more variance in The field play just because they're not like we are over here and where we are focusing So the auto football field being a american football field Which is very different than what we call soccer That type of field and so that's where you're getting the variance that obviously we want the best footing but I understand And I think players kind of understand doesn't mean we like it at all But there's going to be some variance when you go to it, you know somewhere international and you're playing in a different different, you know Um, you know culture and playing on a different field. So it's just one of those things that we kind of have to deal with unfortunately Like I said, it doesn't mean we like it, but then coming back to the states, um Love me some good grass like not just any grass and like oh, this is fine I've definitely played on grass that is not very secure and would not recommend like lambo field during the end of the year Oh my goodness, uh like it is just not great. Um And so playing on good grass like I feel like that is ideal Um turf. I mean, there's so many different things that We don't like about turf. I mean like even just the how your joints feel. I have to wear literally turf tape all over my body So that i'm not just getting skid like my skin skid off every single time I go to the ground Um, and so it's just The little things like that to add up as far as quality life. We're at the We're at the highest level football making a ton of different, you know revenue streams like In my opinion, you'd think we would be putting the best type of you know conditions for our players that they want to play in Um, but we don't always necessarily you know see eye to eye with you know people that are putting you still there So that's what we're dealing with right now All right, Austin last one for you. All right, this is a personal favor for me. Let's say i'm in i'm in a social gather Let's say there's a bunch of people You're in the game Give me something that I can look for so that I can sound really smart I love sounding smart. I'm not so I kind of try to pass off like I know what i'm talking about Like everyone can see when you make a catch and make a wiggle, right? Give me like a hidden thing where i'm gonna go watch what he does on this play. Give me like a secret little tip Ooh, I think different like watch the court. I think something. Uh, maybe this is too obvious I was gonna say like, um, you know if a quarterback looks a certain way and does an audible that way And then if you know the if you know the route That that person just ran you'd be like like la roger's last night. I know he gave like he gave like a little slant or he gave like a little curl to um So number five wilson gare wilson you could be like yeah gare wilson you could be like dang You see roger's give wilson a little curl right there. He got open in that zone You know like things like that where it's like oh, how did you know that but you so you saw him look over there And you saw him give him like a little some type of signal You obviously don't know how it is But then you could watch the route and see what he ran back in he gave like curl around and got open it That was good. That was a good audible. So use that one. That'd be a good one I love it. I like uh two quick things before we let you go first is I saw your wife on instagram gave you an outfit To wear for week one It was so terrible You told her basically no She gave you like a sweater vest and you jones pretty hard. So I don't have to pile on But what was that sweater? I mean if you guys haven't seen this you can check it out on his instagram I'm not a fashion guy But god that was bad Oh, yeah, so yeah, you can see me. I was definitely roasting it I should bring her in here to help her explain herself, but maybe next time But she she had a backup plan, thankfully and that we went the backup plan for that one So look the expectation is high. She did all of my outfits last year So we'll have one of those every single week. She loves to do the content stuff So it'll be a fun little series. We were involved in I love it. Uh, we'll be checking it out and then lastly So as we go forward this season, right as a segment. This is our first one So we're kind of kind of workshop this on the fly Just kind of a little show show meeting here with austin echler So we need an intro song first of all a song that you want played is your walk up song See if it's if you know it off the top of your head That's fine. We could also just get it before next week's a little homework Uh, the other thing is it's your segment, right? So we've got our own stuff. We're gonna do but do you want listener questions? Do you do you want to have guests that we bring on for you or you bring on? Do you want to do anything fantasy like what do you want this to be? I love some listener questions. It's always a good one. I always love recap and Recap in the game. That's low hanging fruit for us as well You know, I'll talk on things that I can't talk on. I always can't talk on anything or and everything anyway Just because it gave us the first 15th trip for next week. Did you know yet already? Right, right, right. So I can't give you that, you know, all the obvious stuff, you know Um, but yeah, I love the listener stuff walk up song, you know, that's you know, we work on that one Um Fantasy, I have actually so I don't have my show anymore with with the office. So my fantasy knowledge has kind of Been lacking a little bit. I've been up to date with as much as I usually am um in that space um So yeah, I mean other than that then I think we're free game and I think we've even made conversation after the game plan Well, we'll get with you before next week for the debut of your walk-up song and we're in a good spot We got a good thing going here. Thanks so much. We're fired up about it. It's gonna be a fun season. Awesome Looking forward to y'all. All right, boy. You got it. Okay. There's Austin Echler on Grant and Danny with us He'll be with us every single Tuesday right at five o'clock. So make note of that. He's a 10 out of 10 He's great gonna be a fun song. You're so good You are listening to the fan speaking of week one and the positive that was Echler out of the backfield Reasons for hope causes for concern after an oh and one start next on Grant and Danny I G&D from 1757 golf club in ashburn Thanks for listening to the program. We've had a fun one today mark rippin stopped by We just had austin echler on the show steve buckance has been a part of the broadcast as well It has been an enjoyable afternoon under the sun out here on a beautiful tuesday in virginia danny. Let's go with some Reasons for hope and some causes for concern coming out of week one for the commanders They lose by 17 to the bucks. They are on to the new york giants in week two Start with a reason for hope a lot of flooky stuff happens in lee in week one of the nfl these days It's a byproduct of how little people play in the preseason and how little we know coming into week ones of the nfl season Things that we thought we knew based on last year. This is a league of turnover a personnel a parody A free agency of changes of draft picks of adjustments So things change from week to week month to month season to season So a lot of things we thought were certain to use certainly aren't a lot of things We think now our ironclad a hundred percent aren't necessarily so it's too early for any kind of panic reason for hope jaden daniels I thought looked like he belonged There are a lot of things he's gonna have to do differently in the weeks and months and frankly years ahead Hopefully over many many years as a passer, but running the football probably too frequently He was the best thing going offensively and in your first game as a drafted quarterback to be Not only the strength of the offense, but essentially the entire offense I think is still a healthy good thing. He was also the best of the three ricky quarterbacks who played on sunday He outperformed kla Williams. He outperformed bonix Reason for hope austin echo's got some burst. I know he's our guest and i'm not just blowing sunshine because he's our guest This is what i'm clamoring for he needs the football more You wouldn't be saying that if he was sluggish averaging 3.3 yards per carry wherever it was he did last year and didn't look like he had it He's got it. He's got that burst. He's a weapon reason for hope their wide receiver room while unproductive in this game Not all by their own doing Still has a chance to grow in the weeks ahead alamadeza kias was playing in his first game with the team Tarin mcclorn and diana brown were playing in their first games in a new offense and no a brown was not active He didn't even play. I think he will play a lot going forward and is going to be a fixture for them Also luke macafrey the rookie i wouldn't have had three targets and three catches for him in his first game Having gone out to training camp and watched practices about two weeks in the practice danny You know the book on him was hasn't really been all that noticeable So for him to have climbed the depth chart the way that he has is a good sign That to me is a reason for hoping a long season reason for hope i thought the offensive line actually held up pretty decent Now tababay is missing some guys. There are some injuries a couple. I think one of their other really good internal defensive lineman non-videva division Wasn't available to them So it wasn't as if you went up against i don't know the 85 bears or you know those giant super ball teams But still i thought week one offensive line that there's some questions certainly but held up very well cause for concern The secondary was every bit as bad as it was last year We had major issues at the corner position Watching a manual forbs who got benched and hurt both in this game. It seemed like Struggle again had a sequence on one play where he had two penalties grabbing a face mask Getting a pass interference didn't go well And while benjamin st. choose did have tight coverage on a touchdown he gave up to a future hall of famer and mike evans He was on the wrong end of multiple touchdowns in this game and mike You san restill who i think will have a productive season and will be a good player I got baptized a little bit in the slot good wide receiver chris godwin did whatever he wanted Uh Cause for concern We're in a third set of offensive coordinators It's only one game here obviously but third set of oc's where the best playmakers on offense Don't get the ball very often and doesn't seem to be a priority to force feed them Cause for concern I thought the pass rush was decent specifically from the interior With john alan and the ron pain pushing the pocket Didn't think noticeably they got much pressure off the edges and they didn't finish This was a problem at times with their group last year And I think this happens a lot of the time danny When the best part of your pass rush is the interior and the quarterback can see it coming Cause they can make that elusive move and evade the rush and kind of squeak out to the edges Well, if you don't have anybody no tj watt forcing them back into the middle or cleaning up the the movement so to speak Then there's no real sacks to be had no game-changing Sequences where you hit them like jade and daniels got hit and the ball came out when he tried to run out of a breaking pocket Uh, so that worries me a little bit. That's something i'm concerned about two of their three second round picks were non-factors One didn't play the other only played Uh, around 10 11 snaps on offense and bent senate mike sander still was on the field from from pretty much chum street And he'll be contributing factor, but not much involved but for your second rounders for a lot of teams and a lot of you know Programs those are starters and there's been a gaping hole in second round picks and contribution here in washington for some time Daniels's default was to run and this was kind of a concern for me not to say that i'm not pro him running I spent a lot of times talking about this off season that that's his superpower and his elite trade at this point And he needs to but certainly not to the tune of 16 carries or 11 scrambles And when you go back and watch all 11 of those scrambles i'd say a third of the time There were better options as a passer and you heard dan quinn say as much in the press conference that he'd like to see him Rip the ball into windows a little more often basically said you know Some of those scrambles didn't need to be scrambles could have been passes And I want to see that number of Scrambles that turns into passes continue to grow as we get further and further removed from his debut We're g&d you're listening to the fan will give our awards to the best players in the nfl from week one next We've also got to give an award to a washington commander for the hardest working player of the game We'll do that in a moment on this tuesday on g&d Taking you up to 615 on the fan we're grant and danny You are listening live all over dc on the 1 0 6 7 our flagship and enrichment on am 9 10 fm I've won of course watch the show streamed live every day on youtube on 1 0 6 7 the fan's youtube page It's time to figure out who the hardest working player of the game was for the commanders presented by miss utility Remember to contact miss utility before you dig every dig. It's the law visit miss utility dot com Or call 8 1 1 visit miss utility dot net or call 8 1 1 Give me brian robins jr. 12 carris 40 yards in a tuddy and three catches from 49 yards probably robbed of I think was stopped at like the 1 millimeter line at one point Other big gain that was wiped away to a degree because of a shaky block in the back He was productive in week number one running hard. Yes. He was he works hard He just is a handful to get to the ground. You know, I would not want to tackle that guy He does everything violently 12 carris for 40 yards a yomens 3.3 a pop And it's like there was a whole lot there right? I mean, they're still feeling their way out I think collectively as a group up front is an offensive line a long of 40 for him Excuse me a long of seven to get to those 40 yards. So those are well-earned tough sledding Yards and any work really are in the receiving game as well. We had 49 on just three grabs on four targets So I like that one your hardest working commander brian robinson in week one speaking of commanders who we want to give attention to You can vote right now at facebook.com/grantondanny. It is survivor tuesday We're going to kick a player off the island. We're going to give a player immunity for week two We're going to do that based on your voting. So get those votes in voting closes in about 12 minutes right at six o'clock On gnd We will announce who gets immunity next week and who is getting sent home coming up in our final segment next hour Danny your quarterback of the week for week one in the nfl was Couple guys to choose from here, but i'm going baker mayfield because he was incredible against washington now Here's the thing he played washington. So everyone looks incredible But he did 289 yards four touchdowns evaded numerous times ruse in the grasp of a defender 24 30 He was 146.4 rated quarterback your highest of the week in the nfl He was simply magnificent and it was great to see he wasn't it fun I'll go with malign starter darrick car in new orleans who had just four in completions To go with three touchdowns and no turnovers through for 200 yards 19 of 23 passing Probably could have gone for 400 if they needed them to they just called off the dogs They didn't need to because they were beating the panthers by one million points already Car was sharp as a tack in week one. You're running back of the week Joe mixon was just astoundingly good in houston now part of that is volume part of that's opportunity The other part is he was really good. He was running top. He was running heavy break it through tackles He was shifty. I thought he was really really impressive 30 carries for a buck 59 for mixon In his texans debut score to touchdown. I'll go with another guy playing in his first game How about jordan mason who ran last night for the san francisco 49ers nobody knew he was gonna play publicly I guess he may have known at least according to what he said on friday But jordan mason 28 rushes for 147 yards and a touchdown last night 5.3 a pop against the really good jets defense best running back in week one for me Who do you give your wide receiver reward to especially given what happened before the game? Tyree kill seven catches 130 yards a touchdown including an 80 yarder in there that changed the game uh that sequence where miami is about to go down by multiple touchdowns again travesty had fumbles moments later He'll was streaking down the sideline as he's done so many times over for a game-changing easy button touchdown That changed everything in week one for miami. I am a volume guy So i'll go kuber cup who had a nfl high 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown for the rams Matt staford's favorite receiver. Yeah for sure Generally, but also how would you know based on the number of targets that he caught just is it that all of the targets and they Moved him in motion. I don't know why motion. They moved him all over the formation got him in stacks. I don't know why Uh daris. I want to play jordan mason telling lisa solters that he found out on friday That he was going to start the game. This was on monday night football on the espn telecast post game Lisa solters asks him you know when is he find out and he answers pretty honestly Uh last night on the broadcast when did you find out that you're going to be starting win not find out maybe Friday Friday night, you know something like that So you can tell he's a little uncomfortable. He kind of pauses. He says friday friday night something like that Okay The problem with that is that nobody knew all day saturday v injury reports or otherwise That christian mccaffrey was out. They list them still as you know questionable or whatever and In a fantasy world where gambling and fantasy matter to the league you got to tell the truth on injuries So kyle shanahan was asked after the game about jordan mason saying that He found out on friday and kyle shanahan Did not agree with the timing that mason had mentioned. I never told jordan he was going to start Um told me he had to be ready a bunch, but i might have been bobby or somebody trying to pump him up But uh, I knew he was going to have to play a lot I told him that he was going to have to wasn't going to be like usual. Oh, he's going to be a number two back That was splitting a lot of the time. Um But now he didn't know he for sure was doing that till the day christian have some sort of setback on friday No, he didn't have a setback. I mean it was it was on and off throughout the week He was able to practice He goes on to talk about mccaffrey not having a setback. We just didn't know he didn't feel great today So somebody's telling a different story. Then you get jordan mason at the podium after kyle had talked and he didn't know what to say anymore When did you find out that you'd be in the starting lineup? That question right there is is why i'm at uh That's why i don't like really talking to media because you say one thing wrong and then you know I don't know just skip that question Just skip it for king man. I mean that sequence of answer. I do feel bad Kyle him poor guy and also now it's a story after your career night should be all about how great you were We're grantin danny. We'll also get you ready for nats baseball pregame is 13 minutes away They've got the braves in town at 6 45 tonight. So if you're making your way down two nationals park Should be a gorgeous night for bay In the nation's capital uh danny one of the biggest stories in football over the weekend and on sunday Had nothing to do with anything going on on the field. It was that as fans were driving to the game They were noticing next to the stadium on the ground Wide receiver tirey kill being cuffed by police officers. We have since now seen video come out of the arrest of tirey kill based on The cameras that are being worn by the police officers who arrested him and here is a snippet of the audio Of what was a longer exchange between the wide receiver of the miami dolphins and the police officers It starts with them going up and tapping on tirey kills window Why don't you have your sickle on why don't you have your sickle on oh what? Hey, keep your window down Okay, keep your window down keep the window down. I'm gonna get you out of the car As a matter of fact get out of the car. Give me that get out of the car get out of the car Get out of the car right now. We're not playing this game. Get out. Get out Get out We'll put a problem to understand I drew I drew I'm getting arrested drew. I'm getting arrested That was hill talking to his agent true rosen house I guess was on the phone as it was put on the ground. Obviously not easy to listen to that That's pretty dramatic and an awful situation for everyone involved including tirey kill Um as you hear that audio here on one oh six seven the fan Um, but what we now know is that at least one of those officers was initially suspended They're looking into this the agent drew rosen house has come out and called for the firing of those police officers since But uh, you've seen the entire video now or at least the three and a half minutes or so that's relevant to the discourse What are your thoughts? So a couple things. Uh, number one thank goodness It didn't escalate much beyond that Thank goodness. There's nothing you know, nothing tragic here um in terms of loss of life or serious injury or or anything else um Number two, you know, there's there's nothing good here Do you know what I mean? There's there's no real great positive to take out if you have A preconceived notion if you've got an agenda or if you've got a world view You saw it there right in in that in that in that specific case And I don't like to ascribe Larger things to you know to be able to champion some cause or some feeling that I've got in general about Uh near anything. I don't like to take everything through a certain lens. I know watching that video. It makes my skin crawl Uh, I don't I don't quite understand How we got there, right on and with with everybody. I don't understand why The window went back up. I that's never something. It's intuitive to me when an officer the law tells me to do something That's I don't I don't get any kind of resistance there on that regard. I also don't get the unbelievable escalation at Uh for certain moments whether it was the second guy or whoever so I don't know all the names everybody involved But there's nothing about it that where I go. Oh, that went fine No, and as the video progresses, you can see another player who's obviously concerned for their teammate coming up and The officers then you know yelling at this guy parading him about his id and this and I'm just going whoa Yeah, whoa, aren't we're still traffic stop, right? But you know, I offer a more grace. Maybe than the average person. I have friends in um In uh in law enforcement on multiple Agencies and nobody feels sorry for them. They sign up to do a really dangerous job But with that part and parcel there are things that have to be done to make sure they're protected the way that they approach A vehicle or enter some a home or different things like that They encounter danger way more often than a regular person is used to and they sign up for that And I understand all that but so again there's a lot to that not much Makes that makes you feel good about it is the way I would say yeah, I mean so I think A lot of times with these situations people want to pick a side Who was wrong the police officer or tirey kill are you team the cops who arrested him or tirey kill who says he was In a wrongfully cuffed and was treated poorly. So I think two things can be true I think we need to work in the gray areas more often than we do in the country Generally, and I think nuance is not only the right way to approach big conversations, but it's necessary So people will hear whatever they want to. I've got two thoughts here. The first thought is I thought that the police officer After watching is absolutely was unnecessarily Way over the top and over zealous and I thought that a calmer demeanor and a better tact if you will Same way I would say with a doctor or nurse or something like some bedside manner would be nice in this situation somebody who is dealing with Someone who just got pulled over I think sometimes like you said the right thing We forget that cops are dealing with bad guys all day long a lot of the time or or criminals or they feel like they are constantly Um Their life is on the line every time they pull someone over which is probably true. I think that that's factual and correct The other side is I know when I get pulled over my heart's beating a million miles an hour I'm very nervous. I am not comfortable in any way. That's not a comfortable situation So I would just ask for a little grace If I'm kind of fumbling with my id or you know what i'm saying like I think both things can be true So to me that officer Watching that is ridiculous for how he acted and I hope he learns a lesson from this But I also do think that I'll just speak for myself. That's all I can do I would not immediately start yelling Don't knock on my window like that when someone taps on my window I wouldn't immediately put my window up when they've asked me not to put my window up Why am I bringing any more? unnecessary strife or Inks to this situation that is already not fun for anybody Um, I'm going to do exactly what I'm told to do show me your id I'm going to try to find my id that wasn't the case get out of the car I'll try to get out of the car as quickly as possible. That wasn't the case. So My point is not to say tirey kill was not mistreated. I think that what happened was fairly ridiculous but I think that There's some both sides to this that We all want to just dispute whatever we disagree with and and confirm our prior if that makes sense And I don't think that that's always the fairest way to go. Yeah, I mean again I don't have a better way to say it. I think you said it very well the You know the desire to make this so microcosm of some sort of larger phenomenon and and you're so you're you know You wait for weeks and months to get a video that proves something I'm not in the business of doing that. You know, I I think the whole thing is unfortunate Um, I don't love drew rosin house kind of coming off the top rope by the way and demanding firings I don't like that creates the thing that we want. What do we want? Ultimately, right? What's our end game? We want this to be to be more adversarial between officers of the law and the community That's not what I hear in general. I think people want the opposite of that I don't think we want it to be as adversarial as it's been at times or has felt at times So when there's a mistake and seems to be there clearly was let's call it that Now now we're firing somebody now you force the police union to step in and they're going to resist that and no one's going to be happy about it Again, it's it's very unfortunate and you know, it doesn't feel good I think that hopefully police officers who see that go. That's not how I would have handled that He shouldn't handle it that way and I'm not going to handle things that way. But similarly, I think if you're the Um member of the community you me Ryan the guy that's not the cop you watch that and you go Here's a lesson. I'm not going to put up my window I'm not going to yell that they tapped on my window too hard And some of the things that you know hill took issue with and I think both of those things can be true Uh daris let's get to commander's survivor on a tuesday on gnd So with the verdict the one producer back in studio today daris damarin has been tabulating the votes What can you tell us what I can tell you is that it was really really close when it came to who was getting voted off I'm just kidding. It's a manual forbs. You have been dismissed It committed two penalties on the way off the island too A manual forbs it took not even One full week of football because I think we already knew that was coming at about half time It felt like so he is getting booted your time here is done Which brings us to immunity for week two no matter how bad they play They can't go home. Thanks to their week one performance who gets immunity your first Oh, sorry, there's no go before you got it. Oh, sorry. So for immunity it actually was relatively close here But it goes to brian robinson be right it was brian robinson jane daniels is a close second But b-rob he gets it the immunity for week one. I'm stunned that it was not jade and daniels Are you no I think the people that saw jade and daniels run or and are excited about it voted I think everyone else the kind of went hey, there's some there was some meat left on the bone there when it comes to throwing the football or Uh some of the other things the helmet coming off. Otherwise recognize the bear robinson at a really good game B-rob will be around in week three everyone else will be playing for their commander's survivor lives In week two. So there you go every tuesday on grant and danny there will only be one commander to win in 2024 It is time for your nationals starting lineups and pitching match-ups Presented by the window man since 1989 the window man's been the educational window company get your free no pressure in home estimate At the window man.com or at their fairfax showroom opposite old friend rinaldo lopez Yes, that rinaldo lopez on the mound is mckenzie gore for your washington nationals leading off my short subsidy Check Abrams batting second left field the james wood batting third doing the catching came bear ruise that is not a misprint batting fourth Your d h andres japarle batting fifth the third base hula 10, yeah Bending six second ace louise car cia betting seven the right field doing crews betting eight the first base joey gallo And betting ninth center field your guy my guy our guy jake pion bad boy jay.
