All right, we just heard from Josh Harris. He had a press conference over the weekend. He talked everything from the stadium to the gold pants to the name change. Speaking of that, before we go to the callers, do you want to hear my out-of-the-box idea for the new name? Sure. You guys can mock me if you want. All right, so this is actually a legitimate, it's a legitimate thought, like not Red Wolves. No, no, it's not. All right, go ahead. You're not doing a bit. I'm not doing a bit. Okay, go ahead. This is, you've thought about it, or just came about during the murder break. I think it's actually a really good name. When did you have this epiphany during a poker session? All right, we can talk to somebody. No. All right, it's just introducing the rebranded Washington gold. I thought you always liked it. Usually I don't like the team names that don't end in the ass, but hear me out. All right. The Olympics got you thinking. No, no, it's valuable. It's a powerful name. Burgundy and gold. It's short. You don't want to not call it. It's the one I call it the Washington Burgundy and gold. Too wordy. It's too, just too much. Commanders is already long enough. Shorten it. Washington gold. You hate it? Or last night, the black, Washington black. You hate it or you like it? Hate it. Hate it. Matt, drab. They'd be more. It'd be better if it was Washington Burgundy. Matt, Matt, Mike Maher. Dude, I'm not gonna lie. I was expecting way more. That's just like, you need the prices, right? We're about to have a gold, gold hog. Play that again. Play that again. I actually think it's a great name. It's a great name. For a different team. It's not a great name. Like maybe it's a great name for a new arena. Football team, but not for Washington. Give me a team. Yeah. In any sport. I'm so glad that is just a color. That's just a color. Yeah. Because you're going just green way, actually green way. But it's not really a color, but I mean, brown's a color, but that's not why they name it. Just the color. I think it's a decent name. It might as an ass, which usually wants to absolutely have an S guy. I kind of like that. I like that idea. Well, the reds, JP reds. See, there's plenty of white socks. The blues. You're doing the rainbow here. It's not that crazy. I don't think it's a crazy idea. I think it's actually a pretty good idea. I think it's a might be a decent name, but not for the reds kids because no one honestly, I mean, maybe Billy Kilmer, but nobody thinks of them as gold burgundy and gold. Syracuse, more primary than the gold. You name him after the secondary color. It's actually there. The colors work in tandem. One's not more important than the other burgundy is more prominent burgundy. I agree. Gold though. Gold. He likes the one syllable and the color he likes it. Yeah. I mean, it's a game for like a gaming team or something or, you know, that son and Kayla Friday's brain. You know, it's not resonating with this rule. You know, maybe it was a fun song. I was protected from the song. I was away from the song. Yeah. All right. Let's bang some of these out. I did not go over well. I don't think it's a bad name. I just don't think it's a good name for the redskins. I think of them. Sorry more as a burgundy than I do a gold. If I had to pick one of the two, I don't know the one in front. And by the way, I hate burgundy. I can't wear it with anything matches nothing, but it is their team call. Yeah. We got to keep it. Yeah. All right. Let's go to Andre. Subtray. Okay. Good morning. Somebody send a golden hog. I thought it was hilarious. Yeah. Um, you know, you know, what was meant was that that movie that Kevin recommended just past week. And so I'm a wife. Well, it's not great. But I do think that what five star gave it a five star. Yeah, the darling thing. I went there really excited. Was it terrible? It was like the serial killer deal. I was looking forward to it. I think as well things where I think if you're a movie buff, you can appreciate it. But this was a fan. It's something kind of, at least for me, it just, you know, it wasn't expected more. Oh, now I don't know. I'm not going to see it. That's all it took. Just took one guy to down. All right. Sorry. Go ahead. I used to call you guys all about, um, you know, um, Gangs of London, finding a Netflix. I mean, you'll enjoy it. You watch Gangs of London Netflix. Listen, um, I read this article and I just saw it like yesterday. So I'm not too sure. You know, I could have been a really old article. But, you know, something about the Redskins finally changed the astroturf on in, um, I'd actually, um, I'd read, can spark and it just occurred to me, man, there's so many, you know, things that this team needs to be, you know, very, um, to be a viable team that, you know, ownership needs to change that. Yeah. As a fan, you would like to see the name change because it's, it's very, well, I don't know if it's tangible, but it's right there in your face. But there's so many things behind the scenes. Again, if the team is owning now, we're moving the astroturf from, from FedEx, from Redskins Park, it just screams to me, man, there's so many things they got to do first before the name change that in my mind, you know, we can keep the commanders for another couple of years. Let's get this team into a winning team and hope to be all right. Thank you, Andre. I appreciate the call, buddy. Thank you. Maybe you tweeted about this, but we found out that they changed all the seats. And the reason we never understood why some seats were like burgundy and the rest of them were yellow. Yes, they were just all, they, it just looked like a horrible, you know what they were. Yeah. They'll explain. I said, we learned because I just replaced them like one at a time. His Dan was too cheap. It's that all they did. They were just throwing in, he didn't care. He didn't care what color they were saying. Just get another one. That's why it looked like you thought it was some sort of like stroke, a brilliant, creative, brilliant, just up. No, they're just cheap. That's why there was no pattern. Because there's random random. How ugly is that? Just to have random colors? I thought they were doing it to cover up the lack of people there. That sometimes you might look up and think that those were people. It's been distracted. Right. Because it's not gold. All right. Let's go to Greg. He's arrested. Hey, more than fellas. What's up, Greg? You know, some people hate the word moist. That's how it feels every morning. We have to think every, well, like, you know, everybody has like that word that they hate to hear. That's how it feels every time you even have to say commander. So when you say that, it's kind of over it. So you still hate it. Okay. All right. And you have to like even E.B. earlier in the segment or said, you know, oh, God, I hate think. I do have a hard time saying it, to be honest with you. He's going to say gold. It's not because I can't articulate the word. I know. I'm just telling you. Well, Greg, now, but Greg, my point was that I think most people are kind of just, they get over it. And then when it's brought up again, then they say, oh, yeah, you know what, I do hate that. Exactly. Whenever you're just talking casual about the name, though, it always comes up and you give a little grimace. How do you like gold? I'm not a big fan of gold. I'm not going to lie. I love cakes trying, but yeah. But you would take a swing. I'm curious, Cakes, when exactly if you could think that it popped in your head and just like a we just tell it. Okay. But like, do you remember exactly where you were or anything? I don't know when I had the epiphany. This is really, you know, I just want to know if you then shared it with your wife. Would you share with first? You thought you you stumbled into one. When Josh Harris comes out in three or four years, I said, we're changing the name of the team. It's a lot of market research. And we're going to go with Washington goal. I will have the last laugh. Good luck. I'm just curious, like life, just think back. When you came up with it, you probably shared it with somebody who made your wife. I saved it. This is the first time here. Okay. This is the unbundant. When did you start thinking about that last week? I don't know. South kakalaki. No, probably I was folding hands and one of the tournaments I played this past week. Or you got a hand that was good as gold. He was like, that's good. Exactly. I got paraces. Gold cakes. Yes. This is apropos. Yes. So it's not just a gratuitous plug. Okay. Yes. Eric dash, pickle dash three. Ben says three bucks. Tell cakes that was trash. Okay. Yes. Andrew. I actually think this is a good one. I know what the answer will be, but I would love this if they did. I actually would like like this. I would embrace it. I think Andrew five bucks. Can we go back to the original name, the Braves? You love Washington Braves? Well, there's like a better than gold. I like it. Yeah. And the commanders. Yeah. Like I like that. Don't like it. You're naming yourself after a Nat's uh, NL East rival. That's a terrible idea. No, it's actually their original name. That's fine. Doesn't mean I don't know, though, gonna say we don't want any Native American imagery. Well, that's just stupid. I mean, I think Braves, I mean, nobody could say there's a negative connotation to being brave. Then you're gonna have to be really, you're gonna have tomahawk chopping. That's the key of arms. I don't understand. Are you drawing, is it a moniker for the Native Americans or just being brave in general? Uh, I mean, I'm sure it's a reference to Native Americans, but who cares? It's a positive attribute. Of course, it's a reference to it. Brave. The only reason he's bringing it up is he got a Venmo. What? Then it would be brave. You don't understand. You don't know that they're trying to change Atlanta Braves name every year? No, I know. I've heard it, but I've heard. But who can't? You know what? I'm glad they have it. It's impossible that they're gonna name the brave, the Washington Braves. That's never gonna happen. Maybe brave. But it's better. It's better than, um, brave, billions. That's worse. The gold. If they're just, no, original name without an S, you're going to call them the Washington brave. I'd rather have, I'd rather have the Braves. That's a terrible name than just the brave. Their original name. Go back to their original name. It has a pot. Who can say anything negative about being a party? Who's something negative? Just that the Atlanta team has it in their division rival. I think it's noted that. Who cares? There's a million cares. I can't do it. There's a million. I mean, who cares? You know what? I don't care. I know you don't. I literally don't care. I, I, I, I'm, I'm team braised. I'm good. All right. I'm, I'm trying. I'm telling the team braves. Somebody sent Eric five bucks so we can get a better. I know from him. It's all about his family. Yeah. All right. Let's go to Ray. If someone sends you 20, you will like that more. Possibly. What's up, you guys? What's up, man? Hey, how are you doing? Hey, you look, number one, let's just start with this. The day that they announced the name changed, I felt like I got pulled off my dad's lap watch in the Super Bowl 91. Like we lost everything when the name changed. No, you didn't, you didn't lose that. You didn't lose that. Yeah. But the reality of it is if you compare the word commanders objectively to other stupid NFL names, like Giants and Buccaneers and Patriots, the word is no different than any of them. The mistake that this team made was by parading Josh Harrison and Ron Rivera out to say, hey, fans, we're going to let you name this team. And now every single person feels entitled to say, well, I'm the one that should have chosen the name and the name that I chose should be the one. It's like when you have kids and you tell them, hey, we're going to have whatever you want for dinner tonight. And one kid wants pizza and one kid wants spaghetti and everyone. Now everyone's mad that no one's happy. As opposed to just saying, hey, kid, do you know us for dinner night? Yeah. Pizza's for dinner night. Yeah. My event might have been better. They can't do focus groups. They can't ask for fan input. It wasn't part of the name change, by the way. Yeah, he meant Jason, right? It was fake fan input. We even had Ron on here the day before. And he's basically one of the guys credited with, you know, being behind. He told us he didn't know the name. I still to this day, it's the most. He could have just said, I know the name. I just can't tell you. Why wouldn't you say that? I only think they would make Eric Moore mad. It's a generous moment in the history of the show. The only thing that would make the more matters if Eric I'll say it, buffoon. Sorry. Let's go to Larry. Annapolis Larry. What's up? Larry, Larry. Not a whole lot. Good morning, fellas. Happy Monday. What's up, man? First of all, let me say cakes. I don't hate it. The Washington gold kind of has a little bit of a ring for it. I like it for some other team, but go ahead. Imagine if we get, you know, Jonathan Allen and them going and we call it the gold rush or, you know, I mean, potential. I like it. Telling you. This is my guy. All right. Team cakes, team cakes. All right. Thank you, buddy. There aren't many of you. There's not many of us. He's very unpopular. I like TV show, right? Gold Rush. Yeah. It's my fantasy football team named Gold Rush. Is it? Yeah. Nice. Gold Rush popular. All right. I'm getting a Charlie horse. Can we go to break that? We're going to get a Charlie horse from my, I don't know, the inactivity, lethargy. No, no, I've been sedentary lifestyle. I walked 18 holes, carried my bag, did sauna, and I didn't, I'm not hydrated enough. We're getting hamstrings, brother. Huh? I know I am coming up at nine o'clock. Nikki Jevoff and the Washington Post joins us as we talk commanders as they close out their preseason. We're two weeks away from the start of the NFL regular season here in DC. Don't go anywhere. Be a bitch of Finley one, oh, six, seven, the fan in moments we're going to be joined by commanders head coach Dan Quinn. Be a bitch. Very magn, magn manious magnanimous. What's that? Mag magnanimous. I believe is a word to start with. Very magnanimous of you. Are you setting your fan up to blow on Dan Quinn? Yeah, not stupid. You know what? That's your, I better do the same. You got your blowing. We'll tell you where else you, you go high. I'll go low. Um, there we go. Make sure we keep him cool. Nice and cool in this year tent. There he is. The man of the hour. How you doing, man? How are you doing? Good. We good. We got fans from every angle, dude. Keep you cool, man. You're from Louisiana. Hey, I was used to the heat. I've been gone from Louisiana for 34 years right now. Joining us now, commanders head coach Dan Quinn live in the tent. We were talking about this earlier. I think almost every day of camp, you've gone long sleeves, long pants. Is that a sun thing or just your, what you're used to? A little bit of both. A little bit of both. So yeah, my fair Irish skin doesn't always do so good. So it's had a couple of holes taken out. So I am definitely more mindful, but no, it's all good, man. Cool. Camp is over. I believe even kind of the ancillary stuff built out for media and press conferences and stuff, all this is coming down. Like the season's here. Yeah. How ready are you for the season? Yeah, we're ready, man. And the guys have thrown a good camp, you know, all the way through. We said it was going to be a tough camp and it was to make sure we brought the rookies in early. We had about five days early with them to kind of make sure they had, you know, like level playing field. And there's one advantage in your first year that the rookies aren't that far behind from a learning standpoint to the veterans, you know, and been in a system for, you know, three or four or five years. So, you know, they were ready to compete almost to the same space in terms of the learning, like the physical side, and that was different. But from the learn two days, those were like two of the big markers that we were hoping to get out of camp. You've been involved this thing a long time and all camps are different. Yeah. You know, how was this this one like I will say going how you wanted to go compared to some others? Yeah, that's cool. It is different. And my first one here to go through it. And so wanted to make sure because of the run game, one of the guys made padded work as we could. So in a lot of those practices, we did a bunch of like, you know, runs and play passes to go. And then the one thing I was pleased about, we did some type of situations in every practice. So there was not a day that we didn't do two minute or four minute or last plays or something that was going to help us at the end of the game. So going into those were the things that were like some big markers for me, the line of scrimmage on both sides and some situation ball. As you kind of keep going here, you don't want to make too much out of a veteran getting added after roster cuts. But Noah Brown comes to Washington with, you know, eleven other yards over the last two seasons. He's a player that has really produced when he's been healthy. What made you guys want to target Noah? And what are your expectations for him? Yeah, one we're pumped to have him here. This is a real competitor. That's how he's built man. And like he absolutely goes for it. He's very well respected both offensively and on the team side of things. So to add another guy of that caliber and we'll feature him in all the right ways to let him do his thing. But yeah, we're pumped to have him here, man. You need those kind of glue guys on your team that are about it. You talked about competition since you first stepped into this building. Yep. And I think competition is going to bring out the best of people. As you look forward to this season, what's that? That I would say the trying to think of this word, the mindset or the type of team you want to have up there. Yeah, I think when you and the fans watch us play, they're going to say, man, like these guys are absolutely bringing it. You feel their speed. You feel their physicality like when we watch us play. And so those are the things that if we can get the play style right first, Brian, then the scheme can come into, but you can't put one before the other. You have to have the play style and the attitude to play tough and to play physical. That doesn't get tacked on these to see in terms of what that's going to take for these guys for these guys. Brandon Coleman, rookie left tackle ideally of the future, shared some good news with us yesterday. He expects to be full go of practice today. How excited are you to maybe get to see perhaps you're starting offensive live for the first time? Maybe all can't. Yeah, it's been cool to have like he's been kind of chomping at the bit to get going. But we did him a little bit last week, worked him into practice, worked him in individual. So for him to get team reps yesterday and today, that's a big deal. Like he is absolutely, you know, worked his butt off to put himself in a spot to go compete to do that. So now we get to, you know, this week and in the next week and, you know, let them do a do's thing. When you have a young guy like that, that is really, really anxious and eager to go, even though you're working him back from an injury. How difficult or delicate do you have to be in wanting that passion, that fire, but like, no, man, you got to chill. Yeah, a lot. Because that's what you would rather have in Brownlee. This is way better to say slow down than hurry up. And what's your confidence a rather common fool and resurrect the corpse? You got that. You know, that's the attitude that you want. And there's a number of guys in Brandon's class that are really pushing it. But that's our job to make sure when to pull back, when to let them go and do their thing. But he's really put in the work. He's very intentional about how he practices about the things that he does. So some of these guys who've had more experience, they've been in some more college games. They're really coming into the NFL with more experience. And, you know, we're looking forward to leaning on that experience. One of the friendly one of the six seven of the family talking to coach Dan Queen, head coach, otherwise the commanders coach, you brought some guys in here like Wagner and Echler and all those guys. You want to build a certain culture. Yep. But then you drafted a guy in the first round, the guy in the second round, and and Jaden and also Mikey Sander is still two young guys that I would think are not normal. Yeah, they think a lot differently. And when you see that, you understand, okay, I got these guys that but you look at what the future could be having these guys lead the way, how impressed were you by them and happy that you chose those who got. Yeah, we really are. And so like talking to stainless steel first to Mikey, he's ready to leak. And that's pretty rare, Brian, in ways, but like other players are now looking to him like, yeah, what do you want to do? I saw that early. Yeah, I did too. And I had heard it, but yeah, like as a coach, you still need to feel it, but he has got absolutely the whole thing together as a ballplayer and as a man. And so when you put those two things together and people are ready to do that, he's got respect early from his teammates and he's ready to lead. And we'll push him into that spot to go. Jaden was somebody I said, and you don't have to lead, just play your position great and be an excellent teammate, but he in his own right has led. And so I didn't want him to have to come in and be somewhat different. I wanted that to happen organically in his own way, but to see the connections already happen with the veteran players and him. And he's got a hell of a mentor with Mario to there too. And they've got a pretty cool relationship. So I doubt you're aware of this, but I actually complimented you on this. And I really, it made a lot of sense to me when you explained, we don't want anybody to have to be in a role where they have to be yes. And one of the reasons behind, not necessarily, when you draft a kid number two overall, and he just won the Heisman, he's probably gonna start everybody could see the writing on the wall, but you didn't want to immediately thrust him into that because you didn't want him to have to pretend to be some rah rah guy that he felt pressure towards or something. And was that a strategic decision, or was that a gut reaction? Did you just think, let's slow play the same? Because I really think that made a lot of sense. And for me, it's in hindsight, seeing how this all worked out. Like, oh man, that probably took some pressure off of Jayden of having to like pretend to Terry, who's an established NFL vet like, all right, man, I'm the guy, let's go. Yeah, it was intentional. And we knew this day would come, you know, with Jayden, and we were excited to see the how, and the how has been remarkable for him. But he earned that respect because coming in, being in command, making the right checks, making the right calls, like in Brian, I'll tell you, any veteran, they're watching, man. Can this guy help us win? Can this guy help us? And so, when they see Jayden being in charge, and I see Mike being in charge, and I see McCaffrey, when they see Coleman, like just absolutely going for it. Okay, well, I see that again tomorrow. Well, I see that again tomorrow. And pretty soon, that's just who they are. And as a teammate, that's what you're looking for. And so these guys, it shouldn't be given to them. Of course, I've always had the mindset where I tell people it's easy to get drafted. It's hard to stay. Yeah, that's right. When Jayden was being asked questions every week about starting, he said, well, once I become a star, I'm not going to stop working. Yes. Has that been your message to the guys to where this competition doesn't stop because we had the initial 53 as you said? That's correct. And I think it is important to say that because the roster is fluid, you know, as this weekend and into next week, and even after the first week, just some changes happen. There's different rules and guidelines that the NFL has put in that you'll want to make sure, maneuver it to the very best of your ability to go compete to put a good crew together. But that's what we're looking for, man, like guys who don't stop competing. And you kind of saw the first day, how somebody going to be early on a rookie camp and that it stayed consistent. And for the players that stay in that pocket of just competing and going for it, that there's usually good things behind that. Yeah. Well, it's funny because Sam are still, yesterday, we were talking about changing his number, and he said something that he spoke to Darryl Green and that Darryl Green told him to treat every day like it's your first day. And I think, and Brian, maybe you can even speak to this more than me, certainly. But it seems like you have really tried to embrace the history of this organization and the the the wants greatness of this organization. It was that something that you came to DC and you're like, Hey, you know, I was at Salisbury, like I grew up watching NFC East games. I know what this thing can be. Or was that a larger organizational decision? How did you arrive at trying to get the alumni, the the great more vault? Yeah, I think two things. One, to know where you want to go, you better know where you've been, you know, to say what has worked? Why was the team, you know, so successful in their own right? And coming here, there was a lot of people that said, well, that's tricky to connect the past and the present. And I didn't see that way at all. I kind of thought just the opposite, like to see some of the players like Brian or Sean Taylor or Darryl or any of the guys be celebrated like they should, you know, and so to be a part of that and get to be like they're deserving of that. And so to me, that's a really cool thing to be a part of. And I leaned in the other way to say like, Oh man, there is an excellent history here between the team, the city, and like, I want all in on it. And I can tell you the guys respected, you know, I've heard of guys that was so happy. Doug mentioned that you had wanted guys to come in and talk to you. And I think it makes a difference because like when I played always, my mindset was, is my team just like it's a coaches team. Yep. And I feel the same way about this team. This team made me into a man, gave me my life. And I think, ultimately, you want to see it get back there. So anything I'm sure any one of us can do, we're willing to help you. Well, we appreciate that, man, because it does take a whole, you know, crew of people and knowing the history and knowing the people that made this what it can be. Like, we want more. And so like, we're not going to back off anything. Commanders, head coach, Dan Quinn, joining us now live on B. Mitch Finley. I want to do some non football stuff. Got it. You've been here about six months now? Seven. Yeah, I don't know where you got to count. February. February is a blur. I've been here. Yeah. Um, what do you love about the DMV? And what maybe drives you nuts? What do I love about the DMV? I would say, I love how important football is here. And so to, you know, work at an organization where the team's really important, like, that's what you want as a coach, man, like to make sure like you're at a place that matters. And this team matters and his big deal. And so like, knowing that you get to be a part of that to recapture what we need to recapture and recalibrate it. Like, that's a really cool things. I'd say that's front and center for me. How they would be traffic, but he said his building most of the day. Yeah. You might be getting up early enough to avoid it. Yeah, there's traffic. Yeah, that part, I'm good. Have you found any restaurants really like? Yeah, there's, I don't go out a lot. Obviously, we've got good meals here. But I haven't been out as much. I would say that might be a good thing for me for next off season. Like this off season, honestly, I didn't. And what's your typical date? Like, I got to go through Georgetown basketball game. I thought that was really cool. I saw the photos. That was cool. You know, so I love basketball. And so, you know, like in the spring and in the winter, I certainly look forward to, you know, being a part of some of those this year. You get to go to a wiz game, man? Not yet. I know a guy. You need to take a second. I got a couple guys. He's a coach of a team. Yeah. And one last game. And so that was cool. And I spent some time there and enjoyed that. But there's a lot to learn from other coaches. And like, I've always enjoyed that from, you know, my friends who, you know, coach in other sports. And those are, you know, like things that I enjoy doing when we're down in Miami had a chance to visit with the heat staff while we were there for four days. So, very cool. The C SPO and Chris Quinn and those guys and just talk team building, talk, you know, the habits that we need to play well. And we obviously talked a lot about the Olympics, but I'm looking forward to getting to know, you know, the coaches here in the area. It's funny. And this predates you, but Brian and I were down in Miami. This is, this was 2019 when Jay just got in fire at the Callahan win that almost was a loss. Fitz comes in the second half. I don't know if you remember that game. But that Saturday night, Brian and I were at a hotel and we ended up having a couple drinks smoking a cigar with a lonzo morning right on who was on the heat staff. And his biggest thing was it's about developing players. Yes. And listening to you and Adam yesterday, it seems like you guys are there too, even for you, development from week one to week 17, 100%. We just had a meeting on that today where we reset it again to say what's the one or two things that you're now working on. So we set some time before practice and after practice. And quite honestly, like the NBA is done a good job in developing. They have a good plan. And I would say over the years, probably better than we have in the NFL. So that's why I dug in hard on my friends at in the NBA to say, what does that look like? And how did that happen before practice and after practice and making sure we don't have a G league. And so how are we going to find space for these guys to improve and go? Because it's not just for the rookie or the first year player, like you can keep working your skills to get it sharper and sharper and sharper as it's going. As I tell people, Michael Jordan is the best in basketball. But in his last year, he was trying to improve. Yes. And I think every player needs understand. You don't just improve as a rookie. No, you never stop improving because somebody's coming along. That may be better than you. And you got to make sure you keep that little level, that space in between. And that's the cool part because like all of them are a little different. And so knowing some of your teammates, if I was Brian's teammate and he was wanting me to watch one certain thing, I'll watch his back and have that. And those are things that you just need extra time at man. And so it matters. But it doesn't have to be an hour, but it has to be intentional practice time on this skill. And if you keep working that, you'd be surprised, man, like I did 30 minutes this week at a 30. And then halfway through the season, I put five or six hours in on this one skill, like I'm ready to do this. It's funny you and I were watching the DB drills with your boy Simmons, working the DBs on identifying the ball coming in. And Brian and I were both like, I've never seen that drill. I've watched a lot of practice. And it was just a flash. It was cool. It was packed to the ball. And then so when it comes, how can I go and the receivers throwing late hands to go get the catch and playing through them? So like those are the smallest of details, but they really matter. And you have to be intentional about how you do the practice and what you're looking for. I imagine you've caught a million punts in your day and all kinds of wind and all kinds of weather and how to track it. See the tip of the ball. How do I go get silver? My feet aren't moving. And so that takes work, you know, and you got to put it in day after day. And if you keep working at it, then you know, you can kind of build your whole game around that. There's like this one thing I can do better to most anybody. Now I keep building around that. And before you know it, man, you got a couple things that like makes you hard to leave the building. Yeah, there you go. War you can do. Dan, thank you for the time. I know you got a football team to go coach. How about you? How about this March or April? I'll take you to a Terps basketball game. I'm definitely down for that. I like that. Thank you. Thank you so much for the time. Really appreciate it. Thanks guys. Good afternoon. Commander's head coach Dan Quinn right there. Appreciate his time. We'll be right back. I'll be a bit. I say their first roster because that's what this is. A lot of times we make so much out of who made it and who didn't. And in 24 hours, it could look different, let alone in a week when they get ready to take on the Tampa Bay Bucks. But there's a full list of players released. You're going to check it out on my Twitter account at Grand H. Paulson. We just went through almost every position group as to who made the roster. But we saved the defensive backs for last Danny because that was where there was great consternation and debate as to who was going to be in, who was going to be out. They ultimately kept 11 players. And one of the things that you and I kept saying was is Derek forced really going to get cut? It's got to be him or Jeremy Reeves probably. Well, what if you just say, yeah, maybe it's a lot at one position, but let's keep our best football players. We'll figure the rest out later. That's what they did. So at corner, Mike San restello, they just drafted in the second round. Emmanuel Forbes last year's first round pick was probably going to start Noah Igbonogany, who's going to back up Sandra still in the nickel at a great camp. Michael Davis, who they brought in the former L. A. Charger as a veteran who plays outside on the boundary was graded as one of the most physical corners in the league. Last year, along with Benjamin St. Juice, who was also clearly kept in on the roster. Those are the five traditional corners that were retained. Then you've got what is basically six safeties. And there's some guys who were versatile and multiple could do a couple things. But Jeremy Chin, who's going to start at safety? You've got Quan Martin, who was drafted in the second round at a Illinois last year by the Rivera group. Derek Forrest out of Cincinnati now in year four made the roster. The former all pro special team with Jeremy Chin at a South Alabama still on the team. Percy Butler, who was a mid round pick at Louisiana. I thought early in camp, maybe he'd be in a little trouble, but they clearly liked what they saw with his speed and physicality. And then the last guy in the 11th DB, undrafted free agent out of Texas tech, Tyler Rowan's. If you can feel it, chase it. That dude flies around the football field and he's fun. So the minimum special team is probably a rookie six, two, two, 10, and some of the best athletic scores and just crazy combine metrics you're ever going to find at the position. He was like an inch away from a world record in the long jump or something crazy like that. Yeah, I would take my chances there, right? To see if I could develop somebody like that. But so just I was talking to someone just moments ago about this very thing here, GP. And this is kind of when you just mentioned it, we're going to keep our best football players quote unquote, right? And that's the idea. So if you hire Dan Quinn to be your head coach and you give a lot of power to Joe Whit, you're going to see an elevated emphasis on what they've done best over the years. What's Dan Quinn known for? What's Joe Whit known for? Guys in the secondary making place, intercepting balls, lead you in a boom. That's sort of Dan Quinn's calling card. So that stands to reason why I'm just going to make it up some numbers. If you've got a safety that's a five out of 10 and a lineman that's a five out of 10 or receiver that's a five out of 10, there's a there's an affinity extra that maybe puts the safety over the top. It's insane to keep six safeties really seven. If you count down many captain, which I do, that's a lot of safeties. Two, maybe three on the field at once. Maybe you get crazy and go four. I mean, who knows? But you see where the affinity lies. And again, it's not a criticism. Just sort of the reality. If you hire a former wide receiver to be your head coach like Kyle Shanahan, you might see an extra receiver to when it's a tie break time or something of that effect. When you give a huge seat at the table to somebody that's made their bones, doing it a certain way, we shouldn't be surprised by these kind of results where there's more defensive backs than any other position on the roster. How about two thirds of the roster being new? You do the quick math. It's about 63 percent. I came up with 33 out of 53. The number would have been higher if Jordan McGee wasn't on IR to start the season. And we haven't even started, Danny, the season after this staff left. Yeah. I mean, there's times where a staff could leave and you could still have, you know, 50 to 60 percent of that roster a couple years later. We are down to barely 30 percent of the roster being retained. Maybe 20 players before the season even begins. That number could be 15 by midway through the year, which is just so staggering. I don't know that we need to spend any more time beating up on the old regime today. We've done a lot of that deservedly so. I'm not suggesting they don't deserve it. But with the roster formed, I suppose we can look ahead. I'm noticing something and I want to know if Daris is catching this and Ryan is catching this. If you guys don't mind. Now, you guys went and saw Twisters with me and we ate some popcorn and had some tendies, my kid calls candy. And we just had a good old time. We had a lot of fun. We were all sitting there, just high five in. I think we took our shirts off at one point. It was really, really good, right? Danny didn't come. Unfortunately, which means Danny hasn't seen Twisters yet. I think every time I say if you feel it, chase it, he hates it a little. I'm waiting for it to be over. So, yeah, I mean, you despise it. Yeah. Because I could see it in your face. People on the 106/7, the fan YouTube stream can see the Tyler Owens bit does not play with you and you just can't stand it. Get that. It's just strong. You hate it. No, no, I don't care for it. You it bothers you for some reason. Not bothered. No, um, you actually have a little bothered. Yeah, you know what it is? It's I would say bothered. I have no interest in it. No affinity for it. And it's just sort of like, I can't wait for it to be over so we can go ahead. Would you still hate it? Yeah, okay. I have no interest in that. It's Glenn Powell's character. I'm sure it is. It's fun in the movie. It's kind of a funny, sticky thing where they're all like scientists chasing storms. He's just a guy on YouTube was like a storm wrangler. It just like a pointed himself as a good looking badass. And his catchphrase that dummies like love, you know, they put on a t-shirt, you know, how dumb everyone is. Sure, of course. People are so stupid. Yeah. You know, everyone's so dumb. So they just see this catchphrase and it's like, if you feel it, chase it. And he's like got all these YouTube followers and subscribers. Yeah, I believe you. And so it's Tyler Owens. Sure. And now I just show up at training camp. And one of the big stories is this guy named Tyler Owens, like 39,000, I saw the movie. If you feel it, chase it, what do you think out? But I think, um, yeah, I wish you would go away. And I wish I wish like Tyler Owens, the football player wasn't conflated with a character in a movie. Daris, as the season goes on, if Tyler Owens gets to play a little bit, maybe makes a play, I think we got to do it. If you feel it, chase it. I think so too. And plus by then, I would imagine in the next week or so, the movie's going to be out on DVD. Won't be long. And yeah. DVD. Listen to this. Yeah, on digital and streaming. There we go. I actually don't know if I have I have DVDs still at home because it's hard for me to get rid of them. Of course you do. I don't know if I could play them on anything. Oh, no chance. Maybe my PS five would do it. But I, but I have the digital one. Have you ever owned a DVD? Oh, of course. Yeah. I used to have a DVD player back in the day. Did you ever burn a DVD? I'd never burn a DVD. Could you watch a DVD tonight if you needed, like if I gave you a movie and someone wanted to watch a movie with you and they said, let's watch what GP gave you. Could you even find a way to do that? No, because I don't have like a PS4 or PS5 or PS is out there. I have no DVD player at the Clary household. If you feel it, chase it. If you feel it, I don't think Danny feels it, by the way. I don't at all. You know what? That's a great point. I don't think he feels it. And that's why you can't chase it. If you don't feel it, hate it. I think that's Danny. Yes. There it is. Put that on a t-shirt. One is except in the van shop. Tyler Owens, bro. That's great. I'm happy. I'm happy for Tyler Owens. This is what we're here for. Grant and Danny on the fan. Let's see what Dan Quinn had to say about the roster being formed. Also some other key storylines in the NFL on cut down day. Some big names now looking for work. We'll get to that on G and D. Time now to head out to the bet QL guest hotline, download the bet QL app or visit bet QL.com. We welcome in the first of three Washington Post staff members. Barry's Verluga is a late booking at 8 20. He's coming on after Nikki Javala and Chelsea James joins us at 9 20. But Nikki Javala, Commanders reporter for the Washington Post joins us now. Good morning, Nikki. How are you? I'm good. Wow. You really take like the worst one first. Geez. No, please. Oh my God. Short sell. You know, he goes up from here. He goes up from here. We appreciate having you on that. I know today is going to be a crazy day for you guys. But by the way, has anything happened yet? I mean, like, what, how do you expect the day to go? Um, I would expect there be a lot of time spent on Twitter. Um, just watching the trickle of news of guys that have been let go. So I would imagine it starts soon if that hasn't already. Um, I think this regime gets things going pretty early as we saw with a K. York trade at around 7 30. So yeah, I would imagine it's underway. Do you do you? Uh, can you remind us that they didn't sign York to a multi year deal, did they? They trained? No, they already had a deal with the browse one year deal. Okay. Okay. So if they do find a better kicker with a better resume, they could conceivably, even though he's, you know, supposedly done nothing. I assume he's made most of these kicks. You know, he obviously went two for two in the game. If they saw somebody markedly better, they could easily swap them out. Oh, absolutely. And like they, they have the number two spot and why we claim order through week, right? Which is huge. And Cade York. That trade, they gave up a conditional seventh. The condition is he has to be on the roster at least two games. So they could carry him through the opener, move on and never give up a thing. Wow. Okay. So that's very possible. Nick, you were discussing this earlier. I'm looking at your column that you share with Sam Fortier, where you projected the 53 man roster. You have the commanders keeping four running backs. You have them, obviously with Brian Robinson and Austin Echler, Jeremy McNichols and Kaz Allen cutting Chris Rodriguez. And Eby was mentioning that that could potentially happen. How's he fallen out of favor with this staff? He's only been there a couple of years now. I don't know. He's falling out of favor. I just don't think he was viewed in the same regard as the previous one. They picked him what in the fifth round I would say they had a third round grade on them, they said. But this app is clearly viewed a lot of their picks much differently. So I think all the moves that happen today are just the start. I think there will be another wave of moves through waiver claims, potential trades. I think there will be multiple iterations of their 53 before we get to the Tampa game. You know, looking back on the Johan Dotson deal, how surprising is it for you heading into camp? Everybody assumed this guy is going to be the number two receiver. Was there something beyond his lack of production in the preseason? I think he just wasn't the great stick for what this organization was looking for, what this regime was looking for, not the same type of player, and they're sort of loaded at slot. So they were getting offers for him and decided to move on. The only surprising part to me honestly was the high that they sent him to Philly. They said they got multiple offers for him, which kind of speaks to the level of offers they were getting if they essentially sent him to a division rival and only upgraded a mid-round pick and got two-sevenths in exchange. That was a surprise for me. On the surface, the moves shouldn't have been the biggest rise. I mean, it's an underperforming undersized receiver who was perhaps overdrafted at the start. Moving on from him isn't that big of a deal ordinarily, but this is a former first round pick. There were high expectations, and then he sent them to one of your biggest rivals. Yeah, it's very strange. So just at the receiver position, McClellan, Brown, Oz, McCaffrey, all right, that's four. I think Crowder will make it because he returns punts. Now, I know they've tried to use other people during the preseason, but I think Crowder will be that guy. That's five. Talk to me about a couple other receivers that you think I have a shot. Does Brian have a shot to make it to the active roster? Or do you think they'll try and stash him on the practice squad? Byron Pringle? No, Bryant. Martebus Bryant. Oh, Martebus Bryant. Yeah. I still think practice squad is probably more likely for him, and I think they bank on the fact that he was out of league for what he's released in May from the Cowboys, didn't play an active game in, and even so nobody picked him up. So maybe they feel like he could clear waivers despite having a fairly productive two games in the preseason. So I think that would be my guess. But they do need a bigger body receiver, and there will be some on the waiver wire. Like one, that came out yesterday, who was expected to be cut, is Tim Patrick from Denver. He's dealt with a number of big injuries, but he is a bigger receiver and sort of a deep threat, he's good, one healthy. So guys like that, I could see them totally looking at it, and I would think that means Brian ends up on practice squad, but we'll see. Where did the Javen Davis do enough? I feel like he did to secure a spot. But then I hear other people feel like there's still some possibility that they're good. You know, maybe he doesn't end up there on the roster. Where do you feel he is? I think he makes it. I think he makes it. The only way I think he doesn't make it is if they decided to trade him. And I do think he could. He definitely has value. I was thinking, I shouldn't say definitely. I would think he has value. I mean, just because of his potential, and that's largely the appeal to this group with him is, you know, here's a sort of a freak athlete. You know, can we mold him into this address? And I thought he did really well, you know, sort of transitioning to the edge and really taking to the teacher. I think what they really like is just how he embraced the transition. Like he really went all in. You could see him after practice working extensively with Ryan Kerrigan and Derapat. So like he really put in the work. And it's, I mean, even by NFL standards, he is pretty rare to find a guy that size with that kind of speed and power. So I would think he has value, but I also think he has a lot of value to this team. And I kind of want to see where it goes. And there's, there's not a whole lot of risk there. I mean, he's on an expiring deal. If he does great, you try to keep him. If not, you move on. Right. You know what struck me? And this is bizarre because it was a third game, and it was a lot of the backups and guys that won't be around playing. But I felt like they were super aggressive defensively. And I'm like, you know what? This is going to be a totally different defense than that sort of passive style that Jack and Ron have had here for the last few years. It was the closest thing that when Greg Williams was here that I can remember, and this is for your preseason, maybe I'm crazy. I'm not an exes and those guy. I couldn't break down any film with you, but I just get the sense that they're going to pressure and they're going to need to because our back end ain't great. Yeah, no, I agree with you. And that's sort of the hallmark of Dan Quinn's defense. It's sort of, it's just attacking style. And even though we saw mostly reserves in preseason, we did see the starters and the joint practices. And it was the same. It was impressive. Like the way the front got after the Jets, I mean, in particular, in the second half of that workout was when they looked the best, I thought. John Allen drawn up front. So yeah, I think I do like how this group does seem to know how to utilize the talent they have. I feel like most coaches say we want to get the best out of our players. We want to tailor the system to our personnel. Not all of them do it. But you can really see that this group is you can see it with the positional chances. It's not just Jamie Davis. It's Dominic Hampton moving from safety to linebacker. It's finding ways to get the most out of Mike Sander, still, who I think could move around all over. I think we could see him outside at corner more. He's played a little bit there, but I think he's capable of playing all over the secondaries. There's safeties. You get chin. I think he could, he's going to be a key player back there. Lulu, who's sort of a hybrid linebacker. So they understand how to maximize the value of these guys. And you see that in the way they play. Nikki, you have two more of Ron's rejects on the offensive line, not making the cuts. Stromberg, Stromberg and Daniels talk about how underwhelming they were and how worried is the front office and the staff about Brandon Coleman being ready for week one, because I know they're counting on him. Yeah, I don't know that anybody really understands the Braden Day knows pick. I mean, didn't understand it when they selected them and still don't understand that. I mean, he, I feel like the struggle to get them on the field even early on in camp when they were scratching the bottom of the death chart at O line. So I don't know that it would be a terribly big surprise that they wouldn't move on from him. He's just, I don't know, they're just not right. I would say it's just sort of a raw player who's not quite there. Stromberg, I wasn't sure how they would view Stromberg just because of, I mean, he dealt with an injury almost the entirety of his rookie season. But I, you know, he too hasn't gotten a ton of time there. They could keep him on as sort of a guard, sort of a guard center. But I think if they do initially, it would be just to get him through the first 24 hours before they see who's available on the wire. And then what was the other one? Oh, Brandon Coleman. Yeah. Brandon Coleman. Yeah. I heard that he could, he, they were expecting him to be ready for week one, but we'll see. I mean, it is for an offensive lineman to be dealing with a shoulder pick, coral type of injury, not great. He missed the entirety of the preseason. And even if he is healthy per week one, do you want to start him right off of that, having not worked against any other opponent and not really doing team drills for the last three weeks? I don't know. But there does seem to be more optimism there than maybe I initially thought. Nicki, can you guess? Because I know they're not showing you guys a lot. And now you're going to see even less, right? Yeah. Yeah. How's this offense going to look? Like I, I'm pretty, pretty confident that Jaden's going to be pretty studly and he's going to do some dynamic things for us. But I mean, like, I feel like they haven't, like they haven't emphasized Echler at all. And if he's just a high ankle sprint, heel away from being last year, you know, two years ago's guy, I mean, we could have a, like one of the best off season pickups, maybe I'm getting carried away here. But I mean, just like two years ago is one considered one of the best, you know, versatile backs in the game. We haven't highlighted him at all. Brian Robinson looks like he's running as good as he's ever run here in Washington. I don't know. Like what kind of offense are we going to employ here? Yeah, I think health is going to be the key for this group no matter what. I mean, because so many of your key pieces have dealt with injuries in the past and their best play has been, you know, a couple of years behind them, Zach Hertz, another one who looks great and camp, Echler's look great and camp, but it always comes with a caveat of can they stay healthy? I think they have a chance to be good. I won't go to far to say great. It would be awesome if they totally surprise me and prove me wrong. But you know, there are some concerns, at least to me. I mean, obviously the line, especially at tackle, both sides, really, because it's not just the starters there. It's the depth. There's not a whole lot there. And that's where you really hope they check out some guys on the wire and just really sort of bolster the group. But I don't know that he has enough skilled players around them, a teariest teary, of course. Again, Zach Hertz looks good when healthy, Echler looks good when healthy. I think Brian Robinson is still sort of underrated in my opinion, just because he has shown to be a really good pass catcher, even in camp and preseason. And I think he can be more versatile than, you know, the team has, you know, the way the team has used them so far. But, you know, we don't really know what they haven't yummy yet, because I think yummy has generally peaked in training camp. You need to see it more consistently in the regular season. And the other receivers behind those two are sort of unknowns, you know, like Luke McCaffrey's still sort of raw. Alameda is looked great. He's a veteran. But in the scheme, we don't know. So you'd like to see them get more size there. So it's, you know, I say this and I hate it because it's vague, but I could see them looking similar to Houston. I could see them being for born 13. You don't know why that doesn't. But this is sort of what this year, they were totally unknown. And I think they kind of like that, that they're a surprise and people don't know what to expect. Right. Nikki, thanks so much for the time. We know you're going to be super busy on Cutdown Day. We do appreciate it. We'll talk to you again soon. Thank you. All right. Thanks, guys. Yep. That's Nikki Jovella. Follow her on Twitter at Nikki Jovella throughout the day for updates. Be Mr. Finley here on one oh six seven the fan or always driven live nationally on the free Odyssey app. It's the youngest in charge. We're willing to know we'll look him alongside the DOC Rick Doc Walker as we take up the two o'clock before we hand things over to Grant and Danny, who are going to be live on location out at Nat's Park for the debut of 2023. Number two overall pick Dylan Cruz. We're talking all things Dylan Cruz coming up at noon. Right now, though, I want to continue to take your calls on what is more important. We heard from the managing partner yesterday of the Washington commanders, Josh Harris. And he mentioned that the team was doing research on a potential name change. He also talked about the desire to get back to the old RFK location as a commanders fan out in 2024. What is more important to you? The Washington commanders undergoing a third rebrand or the team playing their home ball back in the district at the old RFK site. We'll take your calls on that. 1-800-636-1067 is the number. Let's go to Marco in Ohio. Once check it, what's going on Marco? Hello, my mother got out of a curve ball. Yeah, I mean, here's one of those things that you just got. Marco, the bar's bold is like a statue of Socrates for the entire game. Forgetting he has time out left and clock management. What I don't want is the defensive coordinator involved in politics and this and that, the other thing. What I don't want is 25 seconds left of the game, people wandering around and looking and not wondering what to do. I want to see people playing football, not missing tackles. And the last thing I don't want to see on defense is the word miscommunication because 10 years of miscommunication on the back end has caused me to get a great hearing about a time when I should not be getting that. But if I had to pick exactly what I wanted, I got planted RFK would be a good deal. All right. Free said to go, I'm breaking it strong. I think he said the main thing that I've been saying, to keep the main thing, the main thing, winning is ultimately most important. I think we all are on the same accord with that. But in terms of RFK versus a re-brain, what is more important to you? 1-800-636-1067 is the number Pat is in. Potomac, what's going on, Pat? Hey, what's up, guys? Hey, Pat. So I think just like you guys, ultimately, I don't think that we're going to give it back to RFK. I still think it's going to be over in Railjohn. But my thing is, I like when somebody brought up across from National Harbor, just because you look into DC, it's close to the airport, probably a little bit better traffic flow. Ultimately, I just wanted to win, like I think you guys said, but one thing I want to point out about last night, and I know a lot of people probably weren't watching at this time, but at the very end of the game, when Mortavis Bryant caught that touchdown, you saw Adam Peters hugging him on the sideline, and to me, that holds a lot of water with these people and these fans, because you haven't seen anything like that in a very low time out of this organization, and I think it shows progress. So I love the way that looks, and I just want to win the season. That's all I want. I think that's all we all want. Yeah, we appreciate the call. I will say this about what the last call I just mentioned, that being personable, having your executives be out in front, speaking more, being on the sideline, being engaged on a game base, that's the stuff that people like to see. And he gave Martavis Bryant a big fat hug because of the story that Martavis Bryant has. For him to score that touchdown last night, I'll take it even a step further. Juan says a hell of a lot about him. Now, he bodies up a guy that probably is going to be working FedEx in about a week or two, but he scores a touchdown. What I liked about Martavis Bryant last night is his reaction on the Michael Wiley touchdown. He gets a block on the edge that springs that thing loose. He was more excited about that block than he was the touchdown reception. It's a battle. It's about redemption. What this front office is showing is that they're human. And this man has been able to overcome demons and get his life together. Rick Irving is just coming by Trojan, one of my favorite Trojan, just coming by to playing golf. He's got a heck of a golf game going to out here raising money. So that's what I like about him. If this is a story, if this is a story of redemption, it's a good one. It is. You can't get you exactly, Rick. No, no, Rick, Amanda's legend comes over. We go to, this is what happens when you go to class. Do you end up learning how to have occupation? This is what happens when we go through school and then what happens is that I know your fourth and fifth period at USC was film study, the weightlifting, and you guys were off. John Singleton, buddy. You are awesome. I saw you chip right over there. Man, you know what a chip is. You get a lot of power on that chip. Look what we are though. I know. We on that hill and that's only what we can do. That was tough. Yeah, you had the worst lie of the last five groups we've seen come up here because you guys are on top. You're up top going. I'm just saying straight up, that's golf. He don't understand. But we part it though. Yeah. That's what it's all about. It's party. Man, you guys having fun? Heck of a time. I'm having a ball. I don't get to see the young guys as much. He's national now. Yeah. He's kind of outgrown us. A little gas now. Yeah, so he's heard all over the nation. This is you know, man. Time for us. Man, what do you want to be bigger? Right. And the sweet potato pies too. Yeah. Diddy Doug. Maple, lemon, orange, coconut. We gonna strangle you. I'm telling you, what are you gonna track you down like a blood out? No. Do we look like you allergic to anything? Susan, why would you ask a man? You see what I'm saying? You see what I'm saying? Why would you ask a man his size? Ricky, hold on. It's not right, Ricky. Okay. So, so, so, so, don't look at your physical. You are physical. We can have this for the people. Sides me up for the people because you know what I what people say when they see me for the first time. Don't tell people I always 700 pounds. No, I don't know. I say about three. He's not. He's like that. You look like you about about 250. What do you weigh? Ricky. So lane 252. What do you weigh? I'm probably about 280. Oh, for real? Maybe about 275. 275. I might be 265 in the morning to leave anything he just said. Seriously. Uh, I guarantee you right now and I'll put money on it. We put a scale for our old. How much money you want to put on it? I'll give you $20 for every pound that he's under 300. You know what? Stupid. We got to take a quick time out. We talked back as we mentioned the selling. Great day to be live on location out of that. He's down about 35 for the debut. Looking good. Oh, he's going to be really good for the debut of number two, or I'll pick Dylan Cruz. We'll talk about some of the best debuts in DC sports history next over the. But now on to Noah Brown, the wide receiver cut by the Texans signed by the commanders who at one point last season got an opportunity with a bunch of injuries and shined in a good offense, with CJ Stroud feeding him the football. He had a two game stretch last year, where he was the best wide receiver in the league statistically, went six for 153, and then seven grabs for a buck 72 and a touchdown against the bucks and bangles respectively. The rest of the season, he was largely not much of a factor, but he is flashed. He has shown that he is big. And that's the key, I think, to him coming to DC Danny, the size, right? He's going to provide something that is lacking in the receiver room. He could take the lid off the defense. And you and I both think he's going to play very quickly. I do too. Now, how fast he fully gets up to speed and he's integrated into everything. I don't know the answer. I don't, I don't know how hard it is. I don't know if he's got a photographic memory and it's encyclopedic within 24 hours or if it takes him like a normal human being, a little while to learn the brand new language, where to line up and how learn the quarterback that he's going to be playing with, skiing, design, what's asked of the beach and every play. It's probably not fair to say, all right, on Sunday, you're going to get 10 targets. Let's see what happens. That's, that's a tough ask for anybody. But I think this is their second best wide receiver. I don't know if that's inflammatory to people, but I don't think much of that room outside of Terry McCorn. And I think opposite him, this is the perfect, you know, there are obviously, you know, more more key players, bigger stars as number two receivers. But this is the kind by design of player I would try to have opposite McCorn. I would have the big deep threat. The guy that scares you to take the top off the defense to let Terry work where I would want him to work, which is that 20 yards in an, that's where I think he's really, really good. And as a technician, that's what I want. I want the deep threat. Look, no further than a guy that average, what was it? 17 plus yards per catch. Last year, please. And thank you. I don't think it should be controversial at all to say he's their second best wide receiver. I mean, we're a long ways removed from him being a seventh round pick. I don't think that's how he's necessarily viewed anymore. He broke out in Dallas. Remember, this isn't a one trick pony. Yeah, two different stops. Really a one hit wonder, I guess is what I was looking for, where he just suddenly emerged for a couple of games with the Texans. He actually was better the year before, again, climbing a depth chart where he wasn't supposed to be a big deal in Dallas and making over 40 catches for over 550 yards. Then on a new team in a new offense that, to your point, he had to learn pretty quickly with Houston. He was able to emerge and have some huge games. If you look at PFF grading, not gospel, but just part of what I would say is an insight that I want added to every puzzle that we're going to put together here on the show. Terry McClellan's grade last year as a player on offense was 75.1. Noah Browns was 74.3. Terry McClellan's receiving grade last year was 74.5, which is really, really good. Noah Browns was 75, slightly higher graded. Now, they don't take sample size into account. I'm not suggesting he's a better player than Terry McClellan. The Army Brown, if he played 11 plays last year and played them all very well and ran good routes and made a couple nice blocks, would grade out very high as well. My point is just to say, it doesn't really matter what metric you're looking at. He should grade out higher than a guy in the Army Brown who caught 12 balls last season, or Alama de Zacchaeus, who despite having an excellent camp and a terrific preseason. And I feel very good about what he's going to provide in the slot and around the line of scrimmage. Noah Browns been more successful, more of a factor in the league the last couple of years than Alama de Zacchaeus. So I don't think she get any heat for that take at all. That does not seem hot to me. That's not even warm. That's just a, that's just a take. Well, people who are so reverential towards, you know, front offices and they decide that a guy before he's even played NFL down, like a Luke McCaffrey or, you know, because they've seen Byron Pringle or now the Army Brown is going to break out of which I'm not going to hold my breath on. No, no, those are the guys. So if you're, if you're one of those in, fill in the blank executive, we trust automatically, whatever pill they hand you to swallow, maybe you might be offended by that. So I guess maybe that's who I'm referring to when I say that was my, my semi-hot take. But this is how I would design it. Right. If I'm able to sort of, you know, take the names off that I'm doing Madden, create a player. I would go, I'd have one receiver that's quicker, work, you know, again, kind of works that 20 yards and in great hands, toughest nails, does everything asked of him, like, MacLaurin, and then I'd have the deep threat. Right. Now, ideally that guy's got some size as a deep threat as well. And that's what Noah Brown is. So, history's been filled with a number of players that have had lesser roles in stacked rooms. Right. Think Pierre Garson in Indianapolis, for example, you're the number three with Reggie Wayne and some other studs there. Or, you know, a guy that's a running back in some places that he goes to another venue and gets, it gets a better shot. Or a guy that's a part-time starter goes somewhere else and thrives. History is littered with guys where you come from pretty good places, with pretty good rooms. You're, you're capable, but you're just a victim of numbers. You go somewhere else with a larger role and you can thrive. I'm not saying he's a pro baller. I'm not saying he's going to, you know, catch 1200 yards worth of balls. What I am saying is I think he's going to help a lot. Totally. A couple other numbers that I just think are interesting. And I'm only using MacLaurin as the comparison because he's the guy here that we know is really, really good. MacLaurin last year after the catch struggled a little bit to the point where, when we talked to Dan Quinn, we royally, we have not talked today on this show. But when the media talked to Dan Quinn in town, one of the things he said that MacLaurin was really working on all off season going into camp was the ability to make plays after the catch, to extend plays, to break tackles, to do something after he caught the football. Last year, yards after catch per reception for Terry MacLaurin, 4.5 on average. Noah Brown, 6.7. Now, that's two plus yards. It does not sound like a big deal. From an average standpoint, that is massive. Massive do. Now, that speaks to the scheme and the offense and probably how wide open he was and how much separation he got, maybe even ball placement from a quarterback, shroud being better than how well, obviously, there's a lot of things that go into that. But that's not nothing. I mean, this is a guy that was a rumbling big presence after the catch despite his size. You mentioned 17.2 per reception, MacLaurin last year, 12.7 different offense, not as prolific, but he can take the lid off a little bit. Now, flip side of this, an area where he struggled, I thought a tad. Last year, MacLaurin was graded with four drops via PFF in 128 targets in a 79 catch season. Four drops, 128 targets on just 54 targets. Noah Brown dropped five passes last year. They played together at Ohio State. These two guys, they know each other well. They're both Buckeyes. One was drafted in the third round. It looks like should have been drafted, probably in the first or second round in Terry MacLaurin's case, probably the first round. Noah Brown was a seventh round pick. So I'm not pretending like he's coming in here to be AJ Green or something. That's not what he is. But there's some things I really like. So next, let's do this over or under on projections for him. Let's set him at 49 and a half catches and 499 and a half yards. Using his last couple seasons, plus the projected role here, will come up with basically a 50 catch, 500 yard, standard wide receiver two and a not great offense kind of numbers.
