Thank you for making the show part of your day. We got tickets. If you want to go see Kevin Hart when he is in town, a D.A.R. Constitution Hall, you better be listening to this show at four o'clock. What's up, Danny? What a stupid day today is. It's stupid. I'm in a salty mood. I came in here ruining everybody's time. I'm going to get over it because I'm a pro, but it's dumb. It's all hot and stupid. I'm going to cranky mood, but I'll get over it. We got a job to do. That's a bit of a grown up is. You put your crankiness aside and you do what you're supposed to. I got a case of the supposed us. If you guys want to be in Danny Ruye's fantasy football league so that you can hear more of that joy, more whatever that is, we're getting it away about life. I know the Grant and Danny listener league for fantasy football is open and available. Go check my last tweet at Grand H. Paulson. I believe Danny's got a tweet up at funny Danny. If you go check his account as well, you could take a little quiz. The top 10 or so respondents as far as scoring on that quiz are going to get into our listener league. We're going to have a live draft on Tuesday night at Highline rooftop and restaurant over in the Crystal City area. Well, that spot. Very excited about. So get into the league right now by testing your skills, winning your way in with your knowledge of the Grant and Danny radio program. It's one of my favorite things we do every year. Honestly, it's just a cool opportunity. We get together. We eat wings. We have some drinks. We hang out with listeners for a couple hours and we draft a fantasy football team. And I believe Darius this year has taken it upon himself. He told us he is going to be getting us the stickers to basically do the in person 1999 fantasy football draft where you walk up and you put the name on the board so everyone can laugh at you and make fun of the best. So we're not sitting there drafting on a computer. So it's going to take a little longer maybe we'll still get through this thing in a couple hours. So a couple notes that's way more fun to balance with you. It's like the auction is still the most fun thing possible, but that's kind of like a 1A for me. When's the last time you've done a fantasy football draft with the stickers and the big board? It's been a handful of years. I think a Scherzer showdown is the only time I can remember doing it. We used to MC Max Scherzer's fantasy football event in DC every year, which by the way, don't sleep on how cool that was. It was great. It was a great event. Max crushed it and somebody if you're listening with the nationals or the other teams that aren't football in town should take this idea from Scherzer. But basically you bring 10 or 12 players from your team, then people pay a bunch of money for charity to take part in the leagues. And then each league gets a player in the league. And players enjoy being in fantasy. Yeah, they like it. So like your Strasburg and Redone and Bryce and all these guys would be sitting there at a table drafting with 11 people. And you and I were basically the commissioner is like putting the stickers on the board. Yeah, like back in the day, someone's like, Hey, Tanner, do you like Tanner Roar? Do you want to trade? You know, like, I don't remember the quarterbacks in the area, but you know, do you want to trade me Tom Brady for, you know, the bag of donuts and Tanner Roar? No, thank you. Like that was the best. That was so much fun. But my second note is I performed at the Highline a couple of times does stand up there. Really strong menu. The wings are excellent multiple flavors and it's a good burger situation. It is perfect for the old G&D fantasy listener. Like this is me. I don't think I'll do a burger during the fantasy draft. I'm not going to rule it out completely. I normally like small finger foods and lots of them. So I could see like a wings. I don't know if they've got a potato skin or a mozzarella stick. But I'm thinking like two or three appetizers over a couple hours rather than the hearty meal that's going to fill me up. I find Danny that I draft my best when my hunger is still existent yet not overpowering. Okay. I don't want to be full. I want to be wanting more, but it's okay if I don't eat anything else. That's interesting. That's the happy medium for me to find the right player in the perfect ground. I need to be so stuffed. I need to not be able to move. I want to not be able to really communicate with people. And when when folks come up to me and ask me questions on them, like, yeah, but I have a pretzel here. So they're the bites are really good. So that there's not shows that are excellent, which you won't bother with. But they have a jumbo Bavarian pretzel, which is an excellent dipping situation. That's really good. They got the wings, chicken tendies, the whole nine yards. So we can do a Sam Howlin Memorial, we're just going to chicken tenders that nobody eats or something like that, just to just to like a set and empty seat for the guy, you know, somebody asked me, what's Jayden Daniels favorite food? You guys did tendies Tuesdays for Sam Howl last year. We did it so many times. I had to correct them. We didn't really do it. We came up with the idea to do it. The idea was he has to throw for 275 yards in a win. That happened once. Last football season. It was delicious. We had a lot of chicken tenders. We did. I think it was week. It was the Denver game. I think it was that week two. We're like, we're going to be doing this all year. This is the best. And we never got to do it again. So the new noise in fantasy football, by the way, and I'm sure a lot of you guys have been part of this in some way. Initially, just playing the fantasy football was the fun. You got together with your boys. You had a draft, whatever. Then you got in a fantasy league. You won the league. You lost the league. Didn't really matter. The second branch of fantasy football greatness was the punishment for the loser, right? That the loser punishment became the thing that the whole league was known for for a little while. That's very yesterday, though. That is like so five years ago, Danny. You know what the new noise is? It's the fun way to determine your draft order. That's what everybody's doing now. Our buddy Mitch Tischler of monumental does the pod with JP just tweeted me. The Phillies deciding their draft order the other day and the cage. They had a competition where they set up basically laid down some carpet to take out their, you know, brought the golf clubs, take out their irons. And I'm assuming they had to target somewhere in the outfield and closest to the pin basically got so good to pick in that order. But I also saw, I don't remember what team it was. So I apologize for this. But there was a team that had basically targets and they were taking BP swinging like baseball players like they are trying to get as close as they could to the target to determine where they picked. Now we could do it in just a randomized, unfund way. But I actually think we should find a way to come up with some type of order. We don't need anybody pulling ham strings in the parking lot trying to run forties or something crazy. But when we get the number of people that we're going to have 14 people in the league, we're all in the thing, the returning champion. And then everybody else that wins their way in with the quiz. We actually should, there's got to be a way when we're all together at the restaurant before we sit down to determine a draft order that's kind of entertaining. So I don't know why. But the first thing I thought of is remember, remember from the last dance, the game that Jordan and that like security guard guy would play for like hundreds of dollars, right? We throw the quarters, get as close to the wall as you can. Like all of us doing that somehow. But that's too many people. It's 14 dudes, right? I don't hate that. We could. It could be something that simple though, where we're going to be in a area of the restaurant, they're going to, you know, block us off somewhere. Maybe we do our version of bocce ball. We have to roll a quarter and you get closest to, you know, a piece of straw paper or whatever we threw down on the ground. We could do it that way. I was thinking like a a chugging contest of some type. Now it doesn't have to be alcohol, because I know you and others maybe aren't drinking might abstaining, but like, you know, each person's in a challenge and then the winner's bracket moves on or something where it's like, well, you could do water or we could do like diet soda or something. I don't know. But it's like an old school, like beer olympics game, a flip cup or something like that. Yeah. Who knows? Or each person has to eat a buffalo wing and you have to show the bone and then we, you know, hit stop. And in the order that you finished it is the order that we drafted. I think that could be kind of until there's got to be something who's going to just randomly assigning names on a board in order. But I think that's the new noise and fantasy sports. Really, let's be honest, it's just an excuse for grown-up dudes to get together and be bro. And do something stupid. That's all it is. It's the best. It is the best. It's one of the last, I don't even know what that had to say the right way, but it's like, the sophomoric behavior is not only loud, but it's encouraged. And it's like the whole point. It's like just some steam blowing off, harmless, good old-fashioned fun. I'm in. If you guys have any ideas, again, we'll all be in public at a restaurant. There might be a parking lot at our disposal, but I don't want any sprinting and pulled hamstrings, because I don't know what kind of shape are cruising. I know what kind of shape I'm in, and I'm not in shape for that. I could tell you right now, but you could send them our way at Grand H. Paulson at Funnydanny. Again, if you want to participate in the league, there's still time for you to get in. You got to go take the quiz and win your way in. The quiz is available on our Twitter accounts at Grand H. Paulson at Funnydanny or on our Facebook page as a show, facebook.com/grantindanny. The commanders didn't claim anybody today. I don't understand that. I'll be honest with you. I'm not upset. I think that Adam Peters and Lance Newmark in the front office know what they're doing generally. I don't know that there was anybody available that would have changed the wind count this year or would have made them a decidedly better team. Here's what I do know, though. This is what is irrefutable. The Panthers had the number one option on the waiver wire. They've claimed six players already. Six. The commanders had the second spot on the waiver wire. They put in zero claims. They didn't try to add one player who got cut yesterday. The team after them, the New England Patriots successfully claimed four players. Now it's possible that they put in more claims than that, but they got four players. So the Panthers and the Patriots who sandwich Washington on average, both got five players. They combined for 10 new players to their 53 man rosters and yet the commanders smacked up in the middle of the two second in the waiver wire, despite all of the discussion about wide receiver offensive tackle corner. Don't worry. They can still add a player here or there. Zero claims. I'm very surprised by that. What about you? Incredibly so. I don't see it. I don't get it. I know that they're smart. I know Adam Peters is smart. I know Lance Newmark is smart. I know their whole front office has an idea. I also know, given past precedent, when they see an issue, they act on it, right? When they go, this is unacceptable. We are not going to let this stand for another second. Even if it doesn't help us long term, we're going to get Bobby Wagner. We're going to go get Austin Echler for a couple of years. We're going to go get a one-year guy. We're going to go get some of the guys that I'm familiar with from Dallas or whatever to increase the talent level. We are turning this roster over. 33 of the 53 guys were free agent, trade, or draft pick, turning 60 plus percent of the roster over from last year, rightfully so for a bad team. When they see a problem, they fix it. My only conclusion is that they don't see a problem, that they don't see a weakness, or if they do, they don't care about it. They're not concerned with an unproven situation at left tackle for a rookie quarterback. They're not concerned with zero pelts on the wall outside of Tara McClure and in the receiver room, where you combine all of their stats over the previous couple of years, you get a season from a mediocre number two wide receiver on a mediocre offense. You combine everybody's numbers. They don't see a problem. They don't see a problem at corner. That one, I don't say I'm less concerned about, but I would say with the track record of the coaching staff, getting more out of guys that maybe were unheralded. Totally, I get that's maybe a possibility. They like that group maybe more than some might say, hey, we got some potential in here. We'll coach them up and get that done. Fine. And I'm also less concerned, frankly, about that for a team that's in a rebuild that I am things that directly affect their rookie quarterback. They don't see an issue, and I don't see the plan here. I don't quite get it. I don't know that they don't see an issue. I'm not going to say that. They didn't see a fix, obviously, and they chose not to try to address any issues. Now, I saw Nikki's, you'll follow up who does a great job covering the team for the Washington Post, point out something to the effect of it. It didn't make any claims, but it doesn't mean they're not going to act in free agency. They can still sign players. And that is true, except, you know, what I have pushed back on there is the waiver order should have theoretically been way more beneficial to them than free agency. You know, in free agency, you're competing with 31 other teams to sign a guy. In the waiver order, there's only one team that can keep you from any player. Now, obviously, not every player is available on waivers right now. They hadn't been at a camp if they hadn't recently been waived or released. And there are a couple of guys like Noah Brown of the Houston Texans, who I still think would be an outstanding fit. And maybe Noah Brown's the guy they really want, and they knew they didn't have to worry about it on the waiver wire. He was going to be available after the fact, and they're working on a deal with him right now. And I would feel good about that, because at least now you're not sitting this period out. But considering that 22 hours have gone by, since they formed their initial roster, and they have the same 53 players, at least that we know of publicly right now, that they did 22 hours ago, a I'm stunned and be I'm a little disappointed, because one of the caveats to their roster, when it came down yesterday that we gave, and that every person around this football team that's covered them was providing is this probably isn't a finished product. And it isn't. I mean, they're going to make a dozen changes on the back of the roster between now and week three or whatever. And certainly week one, that it's going to look different. I just would have guessed that when that list of players they got claimed today came out, where the Panthers claimed six guys and New England claimed four guys and two tackles. Like those teams have very obvious needs where they're not very good. They threw some waiver claims at those problems. Probably not going to fix them with dudes that just got cut. I understand that. I'm not acting like it's a catch me all fix all situation. I just like the idea of the effort. It's like, the room is messy. I leave. I come back. Are you still sitting there with mess all around you, or is the room a little bit cleaner and you're sweating because you're scrubbing the floor? At least I see that you're working on it. The Patriots are on their hands and knees on the waiver wire, scratching at something on the ground, right? That the Panthers have a duster out and they're rubbing it over top of the vent to make sure that some of that dust comes down. I feel like I've got my legs up and I'm eating Cheezits with my shirt off and crumbs in my chest hair, just looking at the TV. Where's my effort on on waiver wire day? I mean, you get one of these, man. That is the beauty. How many times have we talked about their second in the waiver order, the second in the waiver order? You know, when that doesn't matter when you're not claiming, you don't make any claims. Yeah, again, I don't, I'm looking for a different way to express it. And I can't find one. I just, what frustrates me over the last several years, pre-adults in charge, and there are adults in charge now, and I'm grateful for that. But when there weren't adults in charge, when it was overmatched boobs and their buddies from a place that wasn't, they weren't that really that successful, when I didn't see the vision that meant disaster. When I go, I don't see the plan here. I don't see why this is a good course of action. Whether or not I agreed with something or not, if I can see where you're going, I go, okay, whether or whether I like that or not, I could see it, right? I can, I can hear the case for it. I'm having a hard time with, with this. And again, it's the, the, the, the push and pull is as follows. These are smart folks. I know they are. I know they've got a plan. I just can't see that plan, and that frustrates me. There is some deference. There is some reverence for this group to allow them to, to do what they want to do and shape a team in their vision, and they haven't played a game yet. So I can't call anything a failure. I'm willing to give them a natural benefit of the doubt. Now, I don't do the thing that a lot of people do, the in-run we trust, their professionals, though. So I'll just sit back, because what do I know, though? I make critical thinker. I don't apologize for that. You know, people every now and then will say, why do we question them? They're the pros. Watch Giants hard knocks off season. A lot of these folks are just guessing like the rest of us, man. I mean, Brian Dables, hiring a de-coordinator. And when he's asked why by his GM, he wants this guy, he's citing his rushing yards per game stats from the previous season. You know, he doesn't think we're all figured out either, right? Is he Danny Ryuye and me or is he Brian Dable, the New York Giants? But I'm not sitting here saying Peter's a new work, and those guys aren't way smarter. They are. They are. I unlike Rivera and the Marty's, who I didn't think had proven themselves capable in the jobs they were given. And in fact, thought in the cases where they had done those jobs previously, they proved themselves largely incapable, I was not giving them the benefit of the doubt. This group, I think in Peter's case and Newmark's case, a lot of the front office guys, the people that I trust around the league tell me they're very, very smart. They're very, very good. And so I am much more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, not blank checks, you know, not just unchecked. I'm not going to question anything, you know, unilateral kind of support. But absolutely, I give them the benefit of the doubt. But today's one of those days where I go. The team with the worst record last year made a bunch of claims. The team with the third worst record last year made a bunch of claims team with the second best second worst record rather. No claims that it's almost like you don't think any of those guys that just got cut yesterday can help you. Nobody can help you. You're sure no one that not one person might improve something slightly in your room. Again, I think you said it very well. Not one of these dudes, that's a waiver claim that I don't like. You never know. That's great story could happen. But not any of these guys that are claimed today are going to be the difference maker, right? I was talking to someone earlier. Like, I know everyone's got their pantaloons and a bunch about KJ Henry not making the team. And this is such a colossal mistake. I don't do that. The 51st guy on the roster is not going to make or break you. But when there's a dire need that I'm going, oh, there's a fire and bring the water and they're going, no, we don't need it. The fire will take care of itself. I go, that's a lot of confidence. I noticed that confidence. I'm going to be watching that Cincinnati bangle. KJ Henry to you. But there it is. Yeah. Grant and Danny on the fan. Why do you guys think that Peters and company were not more aggressive over the last 24 hours on the waiver wire? You think they're confident in the roster? You think something else is a foot? 806361067 is the number you want to join us. 806361067. Also, one of the players washed and cut yesterday that everybody thought was coming back on the practice squad. Apparently is not the team will not be. Top three teams in the waiver priority based on how they finished last season, how bad they were going into the off season. Panthers, commanders, patriots, panthers claimed six players got them all. They had the number one pick in the waiver wire. That's how it works. Washington didn't claim anyone in them right after them. New England claimed four that they got. They might have even claimed more than that. But one of those is not like the other. The question we're asking is, why do you think the commanders decided not to? I think they liked their roster for starters. They kept a lot of guys that mostly they brought in. Remember, they also signed way more players in free agency than Carolina certainly, and then New England did as well. I think at a couple of positions, specifically like safety and maybe the D line at D tackle, I think they think they're really deep to the point where they're trying to trade a guy or two. And maybe that's the other part of this. It does seem to me like it's possible that Peter's priority right now. They've got the guys that they like. They kept the most talent. They'll rearrange the roster as need be. You know, cut a guy off the safety pile if they have to in a few days and bring someone else in if they need another offensive lineman, let's say, whatever. But I think right now he's actually just trying to swing a dealer to with a couple of those players for California. Now you should be able to do both. Like you could assign Lance Newmark to be your waiver wire guy. If you're Adam Peters, you just burn the midnight oil, you could get it all done. And I'm quite sure. I mean, he's a grinder. This guy's a worker. Like he's in his office constantly. He could do both. But I do think that his priority, if I had to guess, is what am I doing with Ridgeway and Mathis? And can I get a deal for one of those guys? Like, am I able to make a trade and figure out a player that I like on someone else's roster that might be a better player than someone that just got cut, which is telling as well. But if you're asking me, am I surprised? Absolutely. Not only did I think they definitely would claim someone. I thought they should claim a few guys. I would have bet that they claimed a offensive tackle and a wide receiver and maybe even a corner. Just those three spots, just throw more competition onto the pile going into game week. Not even close. I was way wrong. Same here. Yeah. I think the answer that I the only conclusion I can come to is they're very confident in what they've assembled because again, what I keep pointing to is when they think there's an issue, oh, there's swift action. There is there is a massive turnover and change. Look at, you mentioned the safety position. How different is that room than it was a year ago at this point? Look at the linebacker position. How different is that than it was a year ago? And say, this will not stand. We're not doing that. We are changing that position over 100%. Same with the defensive end spot really when it comes to it, right? I know that you moved on from it wasn't these guys, but they moved on from sweat and chase young. But here are some incumbents. Let's do that. No, all new. It's feral. It's Armstrong. It's John Baptiste. It's Fowler. It's, you know, Jamie Davis, presumably a position switch. Nobody that was in that defensive end room last year is there repeating itself pretty much, right? It's all brand new. When they see something that they want to fix, they fix it. It tells me they don't want to fix this. Either they don't think it's broken. They like what they got, or they're not really concerned about some of the same things that I happen to be. And again, I'm outside. I'm just putts. These guys know what the hell they're doing. And they've got a plan. But I don't, this one's hard for me to say. I don't quite understand the idea. And again, this is it. You're not going to go sign another term of court. Nobody's cutting up a frontline superstar just because at this point, you got the waiver claim priority to go get him. My point is for a team coming off a four and 13 season, we've already turned over more than 60% of the roster. There's not a single player out there that might upgrade your talent level at some point, might provide some security or some depth at one of these vulnerable positions where you've got at best to be kind, unproven players that haven't accomplished a whole lot in this league. When you again, when you're talking about a rookie quarterback and supporting him, just very surprising to me that there's that they don't feel like there's anybody outside of there. That to me says supreme confidence in what they've assembled. There was only three tackles claimed and one wide receiver claim. So it's also a situation of like, who are you upset that they didn't get? Because if if you're upset that they didn't claim anyone, just as an example, well, who's the guy that got away that they should have grabbed? You're not able to not, I mean, you specifically, one is not. No one's not able to tell me there's a receiver that was available that isn't now that they should have claimed. And if you can do that at most positions, right, I think that actually is a endorsement to them not having claimed anyone. I just point to the other teams and what they did that were in the same tier as you, the same bucket as you that were also really bad. And most of them were not only claiming a player, but several players. And you just said, I will figure it out another day. Let's go to the phones. Teon is in DC on Grant and Danny on the fan. What's up? Hey, what's going on? How y'all doing? Good man. Doing well. Good, good. I'm kind of happy that they didn't claim anybody off of waivers. And the reason I'm happy is because that means that they like you said, they have confidence in what they have there. This is this is a rebuild. And they teaching their guys, they brought in not to say that they won't be moves later on, but they're giving them time to grow. And you say you brought in all these teachers to teach and you're going to put your guys in the best position who they are. So if you say all that and then at the end of the day, you go in this, you know, radical way to pick up just for the sake of picking up. That's something that the Snyder area used to do. That's not something the Harris area is doing so far. And I like that. So I appreciate the phone call. I've seen a couple of people, Terminus, whether they're tweeting this or in the YouTube chat, everyone's more than welcome to do so. And saying kind of what he just said, maybe more accusatory. You guys just wanted to claim someone to claim someone. No, I don't. I don't care about the procedural element of claiming somebody. My point is, I see major weaknesses on the roster and one to me that I'm really, or a couple of me that I'm really concerned about because it affects the rookie quarterback, I would say, let's do something there. Let's try to improve that group, right? And if there's nobody out there to improve the group, so be it. Maybe that work should have been done in the off season or before now. But let's get, let's get active. Let's, let's try to. I don't, I don't care about the procedural element of just putting in a waiver claim just to do it because the team after you did or the saints did or the dolphins did. I don't care about that part of it. I go, there's a weakness and they're going, there's not a weakness. That's what I care about. Appreciate the phone call. For me, I do think there is an argument and he just made it, I thought pretty well that this group just went through camp in the preseason, educating every player in the building on their way. And while I don't necessarily think that should be the end all be all, the commander way is going to be a whole lot different than how other teams do it. Like, I'm okay with someone coming in here who did it, the San Francisco 49er way where they win or the Green Bay Packer way where they win or the Pittsburgh Steeler way where they never lose. Yeah, Raven's was pretty good doing that. I like those ways too. But my point is, I also think this could be an acknowledgement again, like the evidence, if we're believing the actions, less the words, but really truly the actions and what they're doing is telling the story, not what they're saying. We're not rebuilding. We're recalibrating. I don't do rebuilds, all that stuff. I think this is another example of them showing that there is no rush. There is some patience here. I'm okay with Javante Jean Baptiste, my seventh round pick developing in my program at the pace that he's going to as a rookie. I don't need to go claim some dude who had three and a half sacks last year on the waiver wire or an offensive tackle. I'm okay with Brandon Coleman Cornelius, Lucas Trent Scott doing it the way we've been coaching them up to do over the last two months rather than going another and grabbing another version of Trent Scott who was just the same guy who was in another building because people will feel a little better that we claim to tackle and they can put their head on their pillow and feel like we're just working to fix the problem. But I think there have been plenty of times really since they're very active free agency where if they were desperate to win one more game or get to nine wins or try to win a wild card or something, you probably make other moves. You go trade for Brandon Ayuk. You do a lot of things they don't do, including probably don't trade. Jahan Dotson who can help you this year for draft picks. Right. Future graphics. Yeah. That's what a team that is thinking about the future does. And so I think this is another example of that where it's pretty clear and Josh Harris just spoke to the media on Sunday at the X and he said, well, they need to have a better record than last year to feel like they're making good progress. It was a terrible year for wins last year. He thinks they will. It's the long game for him. He's thinking about the big picture down the road and this feels like that when you don't claim anyone to just try to improve the edges of your roster, it had to be a little bit better. Let's go to Joe and Reston. What's up, Joe? Hey, guys. Thanks for saying thanks for taking my call. I think in short, yeah, I think that no moves just means like how much better are one of these players going to make our team like our it's not going to equate to wins. But I think if I just reiterate what Grant just said, it's I really feel like I just keep asking myself, what is the goal of the front office? Like, what do they want to get out of this season? And if it's to, you know, win a couple more games or, you know, just show what Jayden can do, but still stay in that range for next year to where we can draft some potential players because, I mean, the turnover has been crazy. And next year, a lot of the guys they sign are might not even be on the team as it is. So I just think they're just looking forward to the future. And this year is what it is. I really don't feel like this team's going to be a good football team. But if they show, you know, that a little bit of improvement, then, you know, that's a success in my eyes. Yeah, it's not what you're cooking there. And again, I'm all I don't I don't know if anybody's more long term than I am. I've always been desperate for people to think that way. I was born and bred in Bain's prison of the Washington Wizards trading away first round picks to try to win one or two more games to stay at that 41 win range. I've done that I've been there building that way is stupid. But this is one of the oldest rosters in the league, right? The guys at the receiver spot are 27, 28, Jameson Crowder is up there. Bryce Byron Pringles up there. I know they got some young kids in McCaffrey and whatever. It's not like McClorn's 22. You look at the the tackle spot. They got a young player in Coleman, but they're they're playing a lot of veterans too. You know what I mean? At spots. And this is just too much about implementing a culture and a way of doing things so that that machine can continue. But it's not as if there are no young players around via waiver wire or free agents or otherwise that they could go snatch up right now this minute. And to that point, while they made two dozen free agent additions this offseason, the vast majority of them are one or two year deals of veterans that are just tied razors as I call them. You know, guys, as you said, that are going to help set the culture, not really long term solutions. So that was where I think there's been a little bit of some confusion on on what the plan in this first year was maybe. But pretty clearly again, they're in no rush. Nor do they need to be. I just want them to do what they can't help Jaden Daniels to thrive. That's my thought. The Steelers have finally named a starting quarterback Danny who would Mike Tomlin give the reins to Russ Wilson or Justin Fields will get into that next plus Dylan Cruz was spraying the ball to all fields in his first major league multi hit game last night. Mike Tomlin today made it official for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I'm not sure how well kept this secret was but Russell Wilson who they gave every opportunity to win the starting job throughout camp in the preseason. Wilson will be their starter Justin Fields will back him up. This was a little bit of fun. I don't think the Steelers are going to be that good. They're going to try to keep Tomlin streak alive without having a losing season as the head coach. But inevitably I think they turn it over to Fields and because neither of them is a great quarterback maybe they just have him run around and try to be the hardest offense to defend possible and that might be with his legs making defenses go eleven and eleven. You had an Arthur Smith to that equation finally updating their offensive coordinator position somewhat from a guy that got some pretty good results frankly out of folks in Tennessee over the years and you've got some bones that are pretty decent right now. I know Jalen Warren's a bit banged up but not as a Harris. I mentioned Warren is a good scot back out of the backfield. George Pickens who's got some talent so it's something that's the cupboards completely bare. To me they're best served as you said a bit more read option play making kind of a poor man's Baltimore doing it doing it that way with the dynamic quarterback and in Justin Fields then you would be with whatever Russell Wilson has left that he's one of the guys that was all time dead wrong about in terms of Wilson I go as bad situation in Seattle he needs to change the scenery he needs a time machine and that also to have a positive effect on his body you can't be Russell Wilson going back in time now he needs to somehow jump back into younger Russell Wilson because that guy's not walking to the door. Well the Steelers are probably built to be offensively like an eight or nine win team their defense is actually good enough that they could be a playoff team it's kind of the same situation they're in most years they've got a defensive player of the year nominee year in and year out and TJ Watt on their defensive line. Cam Hayward who's going to be all a famous still plays at a pro bowl level they got some other guys on that side of the ball like Minka Fitzpatrick like Joey Porter Jr. who are going to be really good for a long time. My problem with Pittsburgh though is the number one and let's say I'm wrong and he actually is that and that's what he becomes they got nobody else at wide receiver Deontae Johnson's in Carolina they traded him. Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin are their starting wide receivers at the beginning of the year with George Pickens. But tight end pet Friar Muth is fine. They drafted Darnell Washington who's proven to be more of a blocker than a receiver so far in the third round is a huge guy. I just don't see good weapons and if you add that to a bad quarter back situation. You get a really bad offense. There's really no way around that with all due respect to Arthur Smith. I mean you are trying to make filet Mignon at a hamburger helper and that is not easy to do. But I think naming Wilson the starter was just inevitable. They'll eventually play fields as well and it's going to be probably a step backwards for them this year. The thing even more of a problem than their personnel those the division. Yeah, but some more. Best division support Cincinnati really good Cleveland very solid three teams all could be in the playoffs. Heck all could make runs to the conference championship game and I don't think it would really surprise anybody that much. So that's the issue for Pittsburgh. No issues last night at Nat's Park Danny for game two of Dylan Cruz. A lot of people show us fun when it was debuting 0 for three drew a walk didn't really flash nearly as much. Last night made a great running career in foul territory also had his first two hits and his first ever stolen base all in one game an impact performance for the Nationals showing off the tools and almost Homer deep to left center field last night in his first at bat ever off Garrett Cole. Now the Senate a long hold clock down to two won the pitch well not deep to left field. Verdugo going back it's over his head and off the base of the wall in play heading to second is Dylan Cruz with a double and his first hit in the major leagues. Baseball man it's unbelievable quick nod to Patrick Corbin who was unbelievable last night of course of course he was against the Yankees probably his best start since 2019 six innings two hits completely had the Yankees off balance. He made Juan Soto look bad at one point he had Aaron judge looking like a fool. I couldn't believe my eyes last season. I just kept going okay there's a misprint something where it's going on but to Cruz specifically the whole the whole thing that you want as a fan and that's all I am you know when I'm at home watching games the same way I'm watching Jaden Daniels in the preseason or the same way I think back to when John Wall got drafted or whatever all you want to see in these early season or meaningless game kind of environments is I just want to see this was the pick and you got to see that in the preseason with Daniels when he checks to the one throw and puts it you know in the one spot that down me Brown could catch it down the sideline you saw it last night with Dylan Cruz all of the tools on display line drive tracer to left field check making a difficult play in the outfield look relatively easy that not only the running catch you mentioned but going back on a ball swiveling his hips dealing with the inside to avoid the tag after you know his little squibber where he makes it a tough play and beats it out all of the tools for Dylan Cruz wrong display last night you saw the thing that's what's so much fun I was gonna say I think you're already kind of seeing where is I say about Dylan Cruz I don't know what he does that's elite I think everything's very solid just good yeah you've seen him make a throw from the outfield at 94 against the barrier and right you've seen him hit a ball off the base of the wall against Garrett Cole you've seen him steal a base he can just help you in a lot of ways and it's why you go second in a draft when you're a winning player like that it's why you are a college world series champion a team captain of the best club in America just about 14 months ago when he was in school but that's what everybody wanted to see hopefully you were in the ballpark dot com wanted to get into some numbers you found Danny from mike clay who provides projections for just about every single individual offensive player in the league and for teams and needless to say he's not very high on the commanders but we wanted to see where maybe he's too low on the locals yeah so i'm i'm a mike clay fan so when you're in this business you're going to get stuff wrong somebody you know exceed something or doesn't come close to it and you're it's right for ridicule but he's using every bit of data for you know trying to account for everything from development to strength of schedule to you know every predictive measure you can come up with to try to give you analysis of how strong or weak a given team or player or kind of his expectations are and it is not very kind for washington i'll just go through a couple of these things Jane Daniels this is his uh... commander's uh... projections ok Daniels uh... three hundred thirty four fifty in terms of yardage fifteen touchdowns fourteen picks sacked forty one times and ends up with five hundred eighty seven rush yards and five touchdowns ooh yeah tough i mean that would be a really bad year i'd say disappointing season Brian Robinson two hundred carries which is what he's been at over the last couple seasons give or take obviously a lot of reasons for that eight hundred forty one yards five touchdowns Austin Echler four hundred eighty on the ground and four thirty four through the air so not even achieving a thousand total yards out of the backfield that i think that would be disappointing for some i don't know where you are on your prognostigations for him but yeah catch totals there he does uh... Robinson thirty five Echler forty nine that's the low end of what i would hope that i think Echler could catch sixty maybe even a jadey mckissick larry centers like seventy balls that's what i think because i think there's not much else so i think he's going to catch the football i think they're going to get that going a lot mcclorn as you'd expect seventy four catches just over a thousand yards one thousand twelve is what he's got with only three touchdowns so mcclorn traditionally doesn't score a lot of touchdowns for whatever reason he's been in that mid-seventies just over a thousand yard thing with with offensive stroke with with bad offenses back quarterbacks whatever so that kind of falls in line and i kind of went and looked at some other data points and it's it's similar for um you know some of the groups that we we would expect to struggle right like the giants have similar type numbers offensively um look at uh you know somebody that's probably better at pittsburgh similar numbers for uh george pickens for example he's talking about clay's projections yes okay right going going through all those and you could go up and down and i won't bore everybody with the rest of the numbers but the second leading receiver he's got luke mccaffrey forty one catches for four hundred eighty two yards down the ground only twenty seven catches the key is only twenty seven catches not much between them so you could you would combine two or three guys and get a number two receiver yeah so and i think that's very plausible honestly we've talked about this i don't necessarily think they've got a receiver on their roster not named mcclorn who's going to catch fifty bowls or go for six hundred plus yards or something like that i would be stunned if Zacchaeus did it i'd be really surprised if brown did it who caught twelve or something in twelve passes the last three years twelve last year that's just not happening i don't think a sixty for six fifty guy or something is walking through that door but it also doesn't have to be that way if hurts is healthy i think he's going to be number two in catches and yards i think he's actually going to have a big year like that's a guy i'd buy stock in fantasy wise to be honest if you're in this area the problem with that is he just never stays healthy but if you were to tell me he played fifteen games i think people will be shocked around the country how frequently they utilize him because king's berry knows him brought him over from Arizona big part of the offense there at one point you saw him catch fifteen balls in a game here years ago at the peak of his powers like that's a guy that's just going to be a volume shooter so to speak but when he gets hurt it's that's really and if he gets hurt hopefully he doesn't but when that is available now what that's where i worry that's a lot of echler some Robinson now it's the Zacchaeus Diami Brown show maybe that's where Luke McCaffery in the slot comes into play providing some size without hurts that's when i start to get a little concerned so by way of reference again just this is i'm just passing on the information everybody he's got them last in the league in offensive touchdown so last in the league and scoring presumably twenty-seventh in yards twenty-seventh in completions the high and right terms of rushing attempts i think he sort of sees what maybe some of us here do where this is how they're gonna they're gonna major in things and try not to put too much on Daniels's plate early on defensively they'll improve some but still be in the in the upper 20s in terms of ranking beyond that he is win probability stat now that's going to change week to week right this is before the season starts this is assuming everybody's health yeah when you start to put more info into the algorithm it's an aj brown because they both you know slipped on an oil slick okay well that's a different outcome potentially right but looking at the win probability as of now they have it above 50% win probability for one game currently on their schedule whereas you look at San Francisco who has 17 you look at uh you know teams that are probably competing for Super Bowls the lowest they'll have is like one game that's more of a toss up right the Jets for example i think have one and that's a week one game um against somebody really good that they play at the outside can't remember where they play but week one yeah the Jets have with the Chiefs yeah just chief that's the only game they're not win probability favorite yeah so to speak right so basically the two games with the Giants one's a toss up and one at home the second game of the year they are of a higher than a coin toss in terms of win probability doesn't mean that you go two and fifteen or whatever i don't think anybody's saying that you are not supposed to win all the time it's the league it's why you line up and play but needless to say not bullish expectations on the old washington football so we're back to Daniel's forming so he had him in the mid three thousand thirty four hundred change that where he had him yes three thousand four hundred fifty yards i don't think that would be overly problematic if he's running for another five to seven hundred because then you're talking about four thousand yards from the quarterback you know numbers with Daniel just to look at passing yards when he does so much with his feet is not fair to the player hmm same as say Lamar or Josh alan or any of these other guys total touchdowns total yards how many rushing touchdowns that he have him for five five hundred eighty seven yards on the ground and five touchdowns so he had twenty total touchdowns and fourteen picks that is the very low end of what i would find to be acceptable so to speak in the sense of i gotta be honest that i'd be disappointed coming out of his rookie year if those are the numbers now as long as he looked the part the process is going to be way more important than the result as long as he's showing that he can do this he's in control of the offense in command of the huddle making good decisions and not every pick is created equal he's got fourteen picks maybe four of them were bounced off someone's hands you know if he's still just not seeing the zoning back or in week 13 that's a whole different story but i think this fan base is in a place where they would be able to deal with that better than maybe in the past where they could say yeah it wasn't great he had fourteen picks he lost four or five fumbles whatever it is there's about twenty touchdowns and you know twenty turnovers but look at the good stuff let's not forget the off season where everyone was raving about them let's not forget this staff thinks he's the real deal let's build this thing up bigger and better in year two let's get him more help on the line because you're saying he's projecting forty plus sacks which is way too many um let's let him help the line he's going to learn he's going to get the ball out faster and let's add another weapon or two and i think that'll be the narrative within the fan base the discourse more than uh oh because that would be a slightly disappointing disaster but it just wouldn't be great so let me offer a couple caveats over the last couple years we've actually seen a a precipitous drop off in terms of touchdown passes league wide this is not you know some flooky thing this has been really ongoing since i would say 2022 the last year we had some really huge prolific passing touchdown totals a number of guys over 30 pat Mahomes at the league that year with 41 last year i only think a couple now we're not that far removed from the passing era where you know uh you had to have 50 something if you wanted to leave the league and you still might not have last year i think it was four quarterbacks like love per Ian gough 36 32 31 and 30 so all of a sudden another two guys at 29 another one at 28 but yeah 30 or more four quarterback and people kind of look at those numbers that go wild that'd be really disappointing and 15 touchdowns at too far moved from being an MVP candidate is only projected by clay to have 20 touchdown passes with 11 picks now you add in his tush push rushing total touchdowns is really going to buoy his overall production but this is a different time i think pat Mahomes the highest touchdown prognostication i saw 33 so it's not as if the the elites the best of the best are going to do 40 something 50 something era rogers coming off MVP seasons where he's going to be two seasons ago at 41 touchdowns and that year both burrow and allen at 35 gino smith was the other guy with 30 cousins gough both had 29 so you were right there at like seven guys having basically 30 touchdowns so i would say last year was a little bit of an outlier honestly in the touchdown discussion because if you go back to 2021 which is only three football seasons ago brady had 43 Stafford had 41 herbert had almost 40 my home's at 37 dak at 37 roger's at 37 allen at 36 burrow at 34 cousins at 33 we're talking about 10 guys with 33 or more but it's so it looks there's a trend line here there's a right to you i don't know if there's a yes there is over two years it's gone down a little bit does that mean that that's what it is now but maybe we're getting off track to even a point that's irrelevant with Daniels because he's going to go back to that which is i don't think just viewing his passing stats because he's a quarterback is the correct way to do this like i want to go back to that we have argued some over how much he should run my answer is as much as he can as much as he wants to i think that is the superpower that's what's going to make him really special like Lamar Jackson won the mvp award last year he threw for 3600 yards and 24 touchdowns Lamar Jackson one time in his career is thrown for more than 26 touchdowns in fact he's had years two of the last three years where it's 16 and 17 through 12 games he was on pace for like 20 touchdowns 21 touchdowns in those years his other mvp season was ridiculously through for 36 touchdowns that year but he has never thrown for 4,000 yards and he actually actually hasn't even been close he won the mvp in 2019 while throwing for 3,100 yards over 15 games that's next to nothing but he was unbelievably efficient led to league in qbr led to league in touchdowns the highest percentage of his passes were scores among all quarterbacks the difference was that year he recreated the position with how he ran the ball while being an efficient passer not prolific statistically but just super efficient so he went out and he ran for 1200 yards and my point is if Jayden Daniels runs for 3,100 with 25 touchdowns we shouldn't be comparing that to Kirk Cousins or Jared Gough for some guys that are just standing in the pocket if he also runs for 975 and 6. Yeah if you're looking at the total offense at the position which was always my point back in the day by the way with regards to Michael Vick the Atlanta Falcons vertical way back in there. Well everybody would go nuts about Vick and the highlights were the highlights were otherworldly they were he never accumulated 4,000 yards total so even with the passing even with the running now he didn't he once he got to Philadelphia he did that much later but everyone was crowning him telling me he was the best and I go well I'm actually would take this pedestrian boring guy that's known for 4,000 yards because Vick's not even creating that he's not even getting to that total when you combine both so I'm all for combining both and we're looking at total offense gained but to me the evolution of him as a passer is the assignment because if you if you if you if he falls into a coma and wakes up in a year he'll still be able to run the ball right that's what needs to be paramount and worked on right is be able to be able to throw the football yeah so now obviously he's got a great arm he's got skill set to be able to do this stuff but to me that development is the most essential thing that a quarterback needs to not just be a gimmick but to actually thrive and be awesome and and be you know sustainable in this league which I don't think anybody would dispute especially people that lived through 2012 and saw the decision Griffin was making where we'll continue to disagree is I don't think you have to not be running to develop as a passer that's what Griffin used to butt heads with the Shanahan's about all the time and I still disagree with it like the idea that you cannot develop as a passer and have your cake and eat it too there's 24 hours in a day if you run 8, 9, 10 times in a game or something there's so much time and energy that can be sunk into the development of the player in the pocket as a QB I think you've seen it with a guy whether it's Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen's a great example who they immediately said let's make you the best weapon you can be right away and what has he done year in and year out he's got a little better and a little better as a passer sought with Jalen Hurts now he regressed last year but anyway to me yes I will agreed it with that point totally how good he is throwing the football is what is eventually going to determine whether or not he's a superstar yeah so to me this would be gravely disappointing and the the interception numbers which would be more than he's kind of short of proclivity too this isn't like a Rex Grossman gunslinger coming out of school kind of guy that's turned the ball over a bunch keeping it out of harm's way was to me what made a lot of things made Griffin special in 2012 but that was probably the biggest one was you're getting some of these highlights whether they're running the ball or you know some of the great throws that he made a loss or you know some of the dimes that he threw without turning it over without doing the rookie mistake thing without doing Peyton Manning did or Troy Eichmann did or a lot of these guys and to me Daniel's taking care of the football sort of seemed would seem to be more of the identity of what they're looking for as they eventually pile more and more responsibility on his plate the 14 picks to that point would be the most disappointing part now I can live with 14 picks prolific yeah if they're opening their offense up and they're just slinging it he's attempting more passes than I expect like 500 some past times same house style and he's got 25 touchdowns to go with it or whatever but to your yeah I think you're 100 percent right the way they're going to do this thing hey man let's manage this let's run the football with Austin Echler Brian Robinson and yourself let's make some explosive plays legs and our arm but let's not turn the rock over and so I'm thinking more like 20 to 22 touchdowns like you are it sounds like but I think with that you want 10 or fewer picks probably right you want 89 interceptions or something fewer and I'm giving you that number because you're a kid you're going to make some bad mistake and stuff happens like tip passes good luck bad luck ball bounces out of one of your not so good receivers hands I guess for me I'm not even talking about actual picks as much as like what should be picked the turnover worthy play model from PFF like you want 10 or fewer if he's throwing the limited amount that I'm expecting in this offense because I do think we're going to see them try to make it as simple as they can not schematically but in terms of what's on his plate early what if they set all off season you don't have to be the hero that you're just part of the process you're just one of the guys you're a piece of the puzzle I think we could keep seeing them seeing them trying to and to send that message with how they call plays if Cliff Kingsbury is on board with that early this season but let's open up the phones wide open right now MGM National Harbor listener lines for you guys at 800-636-1067 that's 800-636-1067 first of all do you think the statistical kind of season here that Mike Clay is looking at is realistic in any way? Danny will give you the numbers again in one second the other question would be if this is how it ends up going that his algorithm is close to correct do you agree with me that the fan base would find a way to make it work that people wouldn't be bailing that it wouldn't be viewed as yeah it's disappointing but it's not alarming yet or do you think people would be alarmed? I think people would be alarmed because I think the expectations are maybe a little bit out of whack at this point just because they you know number two overall pick you better be the savior otherwise it's not worth pursuing so I'm hoping for patience and grace but basically the summary is this kind of offense in the NFL down in the bottom couple with the Giants and a couple other teams that are offensively anemic Daniels throws according to Mike Clay for 3,450 yards 15 touchdowns 14 picks 587 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground overall numbers for for Jayden Daniels Prognosticated by Mike Clay their only win probability game where they're in the positive is week two against the Giants 800-636-1067 Brandon Denny on the fan Doors take us to summers away or winter adventures and afternoon getaways your dedicated fidelity advisor can help you open those doors by working with you on a comprehensive plan to help you reach your wealth's full potential because doors were meant to be opened visit fidelity.com/wealth investment minimums apply Fidelity brokerage services LLC member NYSE SIPC Now at T-Mobile get four 5G phones on us and four lines for $25 a line per month when you switch with eligible trade-ins all on America's largest 5G network minimum of four lines for $25 per line per month without a paid discount using debit or bank account $5 more per line without auto pay plus taxes and fees and $10 device connection charge phones via 24 monthly bill credits for well qualified customers contact us before canceling entire accounts to continue bill credits or credits stop and balance on a required finance agreement to bill credits and if you pay off devices early see T-Mobile.com Hey NFL fans you can start the season with a big return on Fandal America's number one sports book so when you get a hunch in the middle of the game you can check out the latest stats view live play-by-play and so much more on the same page where you place your bets you'll get started with $200 in bonus bets guaranteed when you place your first $5 bet that's Fandal.com/sportsfan never waste a hunch and make every moment more with Fandal, an official sports book partner of the NFL must be 21 plus and present in Colorado first online real money weights are only $10 first deposit required bonus issued is now a throwable bonus bets that expire seven days after receipt restrictions apply see terms at sportsbook.fandal.com gambling problem call 1-800-522-4700 the seasons may be changing but the deals at the sharpest rides are unbeatable as ever hey what's going on it's your girl Tasha Mikia and I need you to join the sharpest rides for their fall into savings event where they're offering incredible prices on their massive inventory that's right everything is on sale now shop from sleek sedans to rugged SUVs and sporty convertibles the sharpest rides has the perfect ride to match your fall adventures plus with their exclusive financing options getting behind the wheel of your dream car has never been easier log on and shop online at the sharpest rides.com right from the palm of your hands or check other massive inventory in person at the sharpest rides located 2250 South Sea home street in Inglewood either way you will fall into savings don't miss out head on over to the sharpest rides.com today and explore the deals that make every season better and tell them that your girl Tasha Mikia sent you the sharpest rides affordable sexy sharp this episode is brought to you by progressive insurance whether you love true crime or comedy celebrity interviews or news you call the shots on what's in your podcast queue and guess what now you can call them on your auto insurance too with the name of your price tool from progressive it works just the way it sounds you tell progressive how much you want to pay for car insurance and they'll show you coverage options that fit your budget get your quote today at progressive.com to join the over 28 million drivers who trust progressive progressive casualty insurance company and affiliates price and coverage match limited by state law . Thanks to Toby for the update Grant and Danny welcome in your back on the fan you can watch us on the 106-7 the fan YouTube page and of course take us with you wherever you go I'm going to pause rewind the show there are so many different ways to check us out at this point in 2024 how about the top of the Nat's lineup tonight Davey Martinez understanding the assignment Danny Dillon Cruz batting lead-off here we go James Wood batting second let's go I don't care what happens this is the dream bottom of the first Nat's park you get to watch those two at bats and if you want to go get your beverage or go to the bathroom or whatever that's fine but let your hot dog whatever else those two guys as much experience as many opportunities as possible Andrew Straparo's going to hit third who hit a home run last night Ian Jose Tano went back to back the two big additions at the trade deadline that are already in the big leagues for Mike Rizzo and the Nationals but the back to back Cruz Wood won two punch with Juan Soto in town just having some fun trying to take a series from the Yankee just having some fun come on now this is what I want I was talking about the buddy last night he said I want the nets to get hot and see if they get to 70 wins or finish strong and I kind of went if that happens great honestly this is this is the part I care about though Dylan Cruz, James Wood, to a further extent Luis Garcia finishing strong CJ Abrams hopefully getting hot Mackenzie Gores on the bump tonight getting right and trying to get the ERA South of four after a couple you know a month plus and maybe not this is why we're here if you end up winning those games delightful if you don't I still care about the first thing we were just talking about the projections for the commanders from ESPN's Mike Clay he's got Jaden Daniels throwing some 20 touchdowns in fact right around 15 with 14 interceptions it just seems like a bearish outlook for Daniels compared to the momentum going into the season if he does put up disappointing offensive numbers if the results in year one aren't there how would the fan base react? that's what we wanted drill down on at 800-636-1067 Tony's in Clinton on GND what's up Tony? a quick question does he have projected attempts with that how many attempts yeah 316 completions with 506 attempts so basically Sam Howell had 600 something last year with 21 and 21 and so I guess give-a-take that's almost the same ratio as Sam Howell asked you trying to tell me that they had the same quarterback in a better system with a better line with better coaches like I foresee a more of a maybe not quite CJ strike like season maybe not five interceptions but nine because I think he's smart enough and getting coached up enough to take care of the football like I mean I think that's going to be the number one thing with nothing to prove like he's not going to have to force plays and force things to try to prove himself like I think Sam Howell did he knows his body is secure so why can't he just settle in and play so I see like twenty and nine so listen you've got two guys that agree with you in studio I guess the devil's advocate conversation we're having though is this guy does a pretty good job and is known for these projections in a hypothetical where this happened okay you're saying I don't see it and for me you're saying I'm going to take care of this. I'll take the over on some of the numbers and the under on some of the bad numbers but if this were to happen what do you think the response would be and could people kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel anyway? >> Yeah you can't that would show that would be such incompetence that would be a total system failure like that's the coordinator that's him that's everything that to be 15 or 15 or 15 or 14 like you can't blame one thing you can't blame everything offensive and I can't see that. >> So maybe that's a glimpse to the response. Maybe it would feel like an indictment against Kingsbury or just kind of the entire operation. >> The whole thing I mean if you're in my camp you're worried about the receiver position for example that goes into the pile. Kingsbury lines up Terra McCorn on the left side only that goes into the pile. The offensive line if there are struggles that goes into the pile. Daniels himself would bear some respect and that's how it ends up going. And I just don't I don't know that this fan base has patience in them in that regard. I think they're going to be patient in terms of record by and large. You're going to see people who obviously want to win every game and you want to be in the playoffs. You'd like the instant gratification but as long as Jayden Daniels looks good and looks the part I think folks can be more patient. If this happens there's probably way more bad than good if it goes that way. I think people be frustrated. This is the worst offense in the sport. I think people would be really angry. Understandably there's no excuse for them to be the worst offense in the sport. If they're the worst offense in the sport that's a huge indictment against Cliff Kingsbury. And by the way Cliff Kingsbury is in a prove it season himself. 100% Cliff Kingsbury has a head coach struggled with the Cardinals but he's never been a coordinator at the NFL level. He ran the Arizona offense. He called their plays as a head coach but they were never a group of players. He was a little bit different than the Arizona offense. He called their plays as a head coach but they were never a great offense. And he is an offensive wizard supposedly but there are plenty of people who take issue with some of the usage things that he does. Like he would line his best receiver DeAndre Hopkins up on one side of the field. Only on the left. Never move him around. He just stood in the same spot. Everyone knew where he was and he ran basically the same couple of routes. There was a lack of diversification to the portfolio. He had a lot of people who didn't have any kind of out of the box thinking at times like that those complaints are out there particularly in the analytics community. A lot of the guys that we get on say they've got questions. So if they were to have a boring offense that statistically was one of the worst in the sport and Daniels would struggle. I think that would be the big conversation maybe going into the off season. I don't think anyone would turn on Daniels right away as much as maybe wait a second. Is the fit right? What do we think of Cliff? How sure are we? Yeah. But again hypothetically if this happens how do you respond as the conversation. I think I speak for both of us when I say I'm expecting better than that. When you say you'd be really disappointed by that, that acknowledges that you don't foresee that as realistic. I suppose it's in the realm of possible. Right? That's the low. I'm not trying to be difficult. But I think that's the bottom end. Like that to me is the worst case where everything breaks wrong. Okay. And then we're going to be more prolific than that in terms of passing. I just I don't think we're going to get. You don't think he's going to throw more than 15 touchdowns. I think we might get a couple more, but I don't think it's going to be. Damn. I mean 15 touchdowns is Alex Smith. Yeah. It's nothing. I think it's going to be fairly paltry in there. Now if he rushes for 10 then okay, who cares. I don't think he's going to throw more than 15 touchdowns. I think we might get a couple more, but I don't think it's going to be. Damn. I mean 15 touchdowns is Alex Smith. Yeah. It's nothing. I think it's going to be a couple more than okay. Who cares. Whatever. But what is his total number of touchdowns going to be? 17 or 18. With rushing. Oh, no. Sorry. I was thinking just passing. 23 24. Okay. I'd live with that. That is that is above disappointing. That's like the lowest of what would excite me. You know, I wanted to be with rushing in and around 25 or like upper 20s, upper half of the 20s. I think 20 passing is very realistic and should happen. And there's no reason he doesn't. He might run for seven or eight, honestly. I could see. Over 25 is kind of what I'm banking on and would also excite me. Let's go to Shane in Virginia. How are you, Shane? Commander, great. How y'all doing today? Come on. I'm good, buddy. Hey, look, look, look at the defensive. They play the first six games. Like the defensive they play is is legit defensive. I'm talking to play off defensive. I'm talking about the defensive they play against. You get to steal like the Ravens. And, you know, the Giants defense through two or three of the years. So, and plus the in-house what we got in our division. No, I see him struggling. I see it not. We got to be patient as fans. This is a Ricky quarterback. You got a rookie coordinator that's in the box that we don't know what's going to happen. We have no receiver court whatsoever. Off the line is still question mark. And plus our defense can put them in batches. I mean, right now we're rebuilding and we need to be patient. I see him by total of like cops, 23 touchdowns. That's counting Russian and throwing. I got him like 18 throwing and about 10 interceptions. I think he's going to protect the ball. I'm not worried about that. I'm just worried about him blasting and staying upside and seeing if the pressure, you know, we have the offensive line going to jail. Well, that's something we haven't thrown up yet. Shane is regardless of the numbers. If he plays a full season, which is part of the projection obviously, not that he was going to be able to get the ball. That's a big deal. I think that's a big deal. Yeah. That's a big deal, which is part of the projection, obviously. Not that he was banking and injuries, but even if he puts up these numbers, but he were to play, let's say 16, 17 games, that'd be a huge deal. That'd be a massive deal. So arguably the biggest long term question he's got to answer is at his size, at that position with his play style, can he last an NFL season and make this work? And he will have answered pretty resoundingly, yes, right away. Indeed. Yeah, especially in a time you're probably most likely to deal with contact as a rookie, right? The older you get, probably the better you are at avoiding some of that stuff, you'd think. But Clay's got built in to most of his prognostications. Guys playing 15 games, 14 games, or even a little bit less. How many do you have for Daniel? 15. He's got him missing, too. Missing, too. Kevin's in Arlington. What's up, Kev? Hey, guys. Yeah. So I'm seeing like a two to one ratio in the passing where he's going to be like twenty five touchdown and eleven or twelve picks. Now, if he isn't, this goes back to the criticism that you've been hearing from Danny and me and others. Look, when you look at our projected offense, it's staggering to me when there's only one first round pitch, and that's changing himself. Okay? You know, on the defensive side, we've got seven former first rounders or more on the roster. And so to think of that, we only have one first round pitch projected to start an SGA. And to me, that's a reflection of just how poorly the roster has been managed. And even -- I'm going to get Adam to benefit from the doubt, but I'm sorry. He left opportunities out there both wide out and tackle, and I hope it doesn't bite him in the butt. I love who he drafted. You know, I love Senate. I love Coleman. I love McCaffrey. I think they're going to be good eventually, but if they're not good and it's not because he's injured, it's because they starved the offense. Appreciate you, buddy. And a lot of us are going to look back at this part of the off season. Certainly those that came before it, specifically for agency, and we'll go, "Why not?" A little more aggression at those spots. And if there's a chance we'll get to talk to Adam Peterson on the show, and that's what we will discuss with them. So, what was the balance of urgency, aggressiveness, and basically in year one, setting the foundation with a lot of veterans that are going to help shape a culture. Grant and Danny on the fan. At the top of the hour, four o'clock, 20 minutes out, we got tickets to see Kevin Hart at D.A.R. Constitution Hall, super hot tickets. Everybody wants. We got him exclusively on this show. We're going to be doing a lot of things. We're going to be doing a lot of things. We're going to be doing a lot of things. We're going to be doing a lot of things. We're going to be doing a lot of things. We're going to be doing a lot of things that come across our desks. We sit down and we talk about it and we think this is the right move for us right now and for the future. Each time, each individual decision is going to be the same thought process. This is the best for our team. That's going to drive our decision-making. For both of you, in terms of the roster, along the same lines, at the end, you mentioned this together with the two under after free agents, how they epitomize the mindset that you guys are trying to accomplish. How do you think about the ultimate goal to, obviously, want talent, but to build that mindset, build an identity, even maybe above the worry about talent in the moment? I think you're on the right track then that you better have an identity and know what you're going to be about and how you get down because if you don't, you'll just kind of hodgepodge it around. I think when you see us play, you've got a glimpse so far of some of speed, of physicality, of going to finish. Those are some of the traits that we admire about a lot of the players on this 70-man roster. And the more we do it, the stronger it's going to get, but that is a really important piece of it. Dan, if you had a chance to talk with the initial 53 and just the fact that they are in that locker room together now, and if so, could you just share what you said? Yeah, we had a team meeting today for the first time, and it's that connection together, I would say, they've connected really strongly chick, which doesn't have always happened right away. But to see a lot of these guys as teammates, what they want to be about, the standard they've set for one another, I think that's one of the really coolest parts when you look back and you watch, and I felt that Sunday night Adam and I were both after the game, just seeing the energy for the players, you know, after a score, after a big kind of going crazy for some people, that's the type of environment that Adam and I both really want to be a part of, like where we know we can work our ass off, but really enjoy it too. And so what I do see from this crew is a crew that does that. And so they're working really hard together to find their edges, but they're also enjoying it together. And so that's why what better compliment than when you release somebody and they text you back really want to be a part of this or that, or when a player is claimed by another team and they're waiting around to visit just because they wanted to, you know, check in with Adam and make sure, you know, to show that gratitude and appreciation, that doesn't happen everywhere, and so to see that, I don't think it could be a better compliment of the people that Adam has brought in that they stand for the right stuff. Adam, you mentioned this is the first time to be in that chair. It's been a lot of fun for us. But now you're in that chair having those conversations one on one with these players, was it different? Did you learn something, was anything surprised about being the guy who's deciding the fate of guys? Yeah, it's harder. It's harder and I would look back and I'd always look at, you know, John Lynch and say, you know, why is he so, you know, has so much turmoil and if he's not sleeping one night, you're fine. And you're sitting in that chair. You realize the totality and the weight of it and, you know, it wears on you and it's, they're hard and they're hard. You know, these are guys that you see out here every day and they're working their tails off and they're going for it. And so when you're having those conversations, you understand, like, how much it means to them and how much it means to you and, you know, you want to keep every one of them because they're all, you know, they're all coming from 2017. So now understand how hard that is and how much it weighs on you and it's tough, you know. Obviously they weren't. Your guys draft picks, but five or seven draft picks from last year were released. How do you kind of balance guys who are on, you know, cheap team control versus upside and talent? Yeah, I think, you know, in regards to the draft picks from last year and I think DQ hit it and, you know, these guys were all commanders and they're all ours. You know, so, and we're thrilled to bring a bunch of them back on the practice squad and, you know, it goes. A lot of them are going to be playing for us this year. And so, and a lot of those guys embody what we're looking for. We just had in our eyes some other guys ahead of them, but that doesn't mean that they're not going to keep getting better and become really good commanders for us. But you're always, you know, we're trying to win and goes back to his press conference. We're recalibrating, so we're not, you know, we're trying to build for the long term and win championships. You know, year in and year out, but we're also trying to win right now. Do you guys anticipate making any major moves now before the season? Define major. It's too easy. I'm trying to think of something funny to say, but I can't. But it's kind of, it's going to give you the same answer. Here's Sam. We're always going to do what we think is best for the team. So if a major move comes across and we look at each other and we talk through it with each other and we think that's best for us for a short and long term, we're going to consider it and we're going to make the move that's best for the team. So we're not averse to any of that, but we're not just going to go make a big splash move just to make a splash move. How do you feel about the supporting cast you've given Jaden specifically in the receiver room? Yeah, we really like those guys, Sam, and that's why we felt we were comfortable with making the moves we made. And the guys that we have now are getting better and better each week and not just the receiver room, but then you have two, really three running backs that can catch the ball out of the backfield and one who's a specialist at it. And Brian Robinson, I think, is underrated at that. And then Jeremy McNichols is a jack of all trades. And then you've got the tight end room where we've got four really good tight ends on the roster and another fifth one on the practice why they can all catch the ball. So that group of eligible receivers we think is really good and have gelled really well with Jaden. Two significant contributors to the team in the last week traded away for basically pick swaps coming back. Was there any consideration trying to get players back or was that always kind of long-term versus short-term considerations? Yeah, I think you look at all the options when you do that and you have conversations back and forth about what you're getting for compensation. And oftentimes I think certainly the Ridgeway was a pick swap. I disagree with you a little bit with Jahan on a pick swap but we got some good value for Jahan. Or picks instead of a player anyway. Yeah, picks, yeah. But yeah, you look in it, if it's players that help your team then you definitely consider that. In our estimation, the trade that we made was the best value for us. And if there was players that we thought could help us in the short long-term we would have considered that too. But in the end we thought this was the best deal. And the long-term mindset makes a ton of sense. You both talked about true north and recalibration. But does that get more difficult as you get closer to the season? And it's like, hey, Tampa's in ten days. Does it change? Or do you have to put blinders on kind of? I think it's a lot harder to get good players at this point in the season than it is in March and really in April. Those are the times where you can really get a lot of good players. And there's just not as many out there right now. They're all on teams for the most part. So you can tweak your roster a little bit at this point for the most part unless you have a big opportunity somewhere. But we're really happy with the guys that we have out there. And we're pumped to go see them and they're going to go out there. And I think really compete their ass off and play it off. And I guess that's a long-wind answer just to say we're happy with the guys we have. And we love to develop on the players, too. So where we are here on August 28th, players are going to also grow and improve with it. And so every good team does that. You're playing your best towards the end. And that's part of developing and growing. And that's a cool thing. Adam, I like some of your predecessors. You're coming into a whole new situation with no institutional knowledge of what happened here. But having seen players around the league, how did that fresh perspective help build this roster for you from the time you started until now? And having a fresh note, no preconceived notions about people who are here? Yeah, it's great to come in. It's also good for me to have a fresh set of eyes. But it's good for the players that were here to have us having a fresh set of eyes on them and allowing them to evaluate them for what we see. And so I think along with the guys that we brought in, I can't be more complimentary of the guys that were already here in the way they bought into what DQ was doing. And really having just kind of a renewed sense of what they're doing. And I could go on and on. But you know, the big names. You get Jonathan Allen. You got Duran Payne. You got Brian Robinson. Sam Cosmey. Terry McLaurin. All those guys bought right into what DQ was doing. So that was really cool to see. Because they, you know, they didn't know us from anything either. Just like we didn't really know them from anything. And they bought right in. And that was cool to see. So we're really, really proud of that. Really happy and thankful to them for that. And Dan, same thing. Well, how cool is it as a coach to almost get a chance to help along with Adam kind of mold a roster in terms of the players you see the scheme fits for? Yeah, there's a lot of excitement. As hard as the last couple of days are, there's also a sense of like excitement to see this puzzle come together and clear it and go. And so when you have that, you can feel why we are so excited for this group. And that's about to go out to practice. There are a group of guys that are absolutely going to go for it. And that's what we're looking for. So it's cool to see this puzzle come to life and see how it all fits together and the pieces fit together. And so like, that's, it's a really cool experience. And you can feel our excitement for it because we know what they can do. How do the two of you approach that practice squad construction? Are you guys looking at it? Like, all right, we want to bring in three running backs, two wide receivers. Are you just looking for the best 17 players that you can add to the roster? Yeah, I think philosophically on practice squad and really just kind of anywhere you're looking for a really good mix of guys that come in and play for you. And that's one of the coolest things that, you know, one of the only good things about COVID is that we're allowed to get a bigger practice squad because of the things that were happening then. And so that allows you to get six veteran players if you want on your practice squad and then you can fill in the rest with younger guys. But so you have a mix of guys that come in and sub in if you have a few entries for a week or two and then you have other guys that you can continue to develop. And like DQ says, even the veterans are still developing at that time. So you want to get guys that can help you right away but and then have another group of guys that can keep developing. So that's what we would look for. But you're always looking to get, you know, the best 17 that you possibly can. So you all have mentioned recalibrating as well as when now. So what does that look like from a season perspective? Do you look at the season of like, hey, we're definitely trying to make the playoffs. Let's try to get at least 10 wins. It's seven. What does it look like? You know, just for you all's perspective right now in current state, what does that look like? Yeah, I think I can answer that one first and I'll kick it over to Adam. The win now is not way down the line. You know, it's not the end of the season and I get that's what a lot of people want to do. But I think we'll miss everything if we do that and look to what's down the line as opposed to like, how do we just go and keep attacking and keep getting better. It's our division, you know, all of that. And so if we do what we're capable of doing and play the way that we want to play, we'll be really proud of those guys. So to say where it's going to be so far down the line, not interested in that. Just want to see how good we can get and then do it again and do it again and do it again. And if we do those over and over, there'll be some really cool things that will come from that. Yeah, that's my answer too. That was really just getting better every day and then the rest will take care of itself. That's Adam Peters with Dan Quinn meeting with the media today. A trade by the commanders. They sent John Ridgeway to the New Orleans Saintsyard. Peter's response to working that deal. What did we make of the return for Ridgeway and some news on a popular offensive lineman in town. It was hoping to get back on the practice field tomorrow. We'll have that for you next on GND. With a guy like John. He did a really good job. He saw how good he did on Sunday night too. With that there's a lot of interest in him. You look at your team and you look at who you have in the building and compare it to what teams are offering. We thought it's a really good opportunity for him to go somewhere and play a little bit more than he probably would have played here and a scheme that probably fits him a little bit more. We were in constant contact with his agent and John to his credit. Probably there's some things swirling around the last few days. He went out there and put some of his best tape out there and really battled for us out here all offseason, all summer, all training camps. We wish the best for him. I know he's going to go and have a really good year in New Orleans. Adam Peters meeting with the media earlier this afternoon discussing John Ridgeway who the commanders traded today to the New Orleans Saints with a seventh round pick for a sixth round pick and a late round pick swap. Ridgeway's 25 years old will be 25 all football season long. He played in 32 games here in Washington in the last couple seasons. He even started six games at defensive tackle. He's played a bunch. I don't think we talked enough earlier Danny though about what a good smart normal football move. Trading John Ridgeway for a draft pick was. I want to go back to that trade because I think we might have even brushed past it too quickly today because you kind of file it into the drawer of that's a minor move. It's a late round pick. It's a guy that's a vacuarost or whatever. This is not the way they've done things for a long time. They haven't been able to trade dudes they were about to cut for draft picks very often. But this is what good GM's do. There's nothing like draft capital, man. It's not meant to be disrespectful. He is a replacement level guy. He is a jag of sorts who they got off the waiver wire. And they got some good football out of. I actually happen to like the player. He's big. He's pretty physical. He's strong. He can help stop the run a little bit. But he is at best. That is very best on a 72 in sunny day when everyone's healthy a detackle. The fourth best defensive tackle in this organization. Behind Alan Payne and Johnny Newton who they just drafted just outside of the first round. To take a guy like that. Who there are plenty of. Fidarian Mathis is comparable. They obviously thought was a little better. Former second round pick out of Alabama. There's ridgeways on a lot of rosters. And to be able to get New Orleans to give up a six for him. He's saying steam, by the way, that might not be good. We had Mike Jones of the athletic on. In the Beltway Blitz and you asked him today at four, which teams could pick in the top five. Who's going to stink? The Saints. The coach with the highest odds to get fired first this year is the head coach in New Orleans, Dennis Allen. It's very possible that could be the seventh pick in the sixth round or something like that. Not to mention a pick swap where in they said late rounds. Maybe it's fifth. Maybe it's seventh. Probably. I don't know. But you can flip picks if you get to move up the board with New Orleans. That's good value for a guy that you could have cut and no one would have thought about it. It would have just been one of 30 some names that came out yesterday and everyone would have moved on. This is good business. This is the type of stuff that winning, well-run, sharp front office led organizations do. And I cannot stress that enough. Agreed. Yeah. It's a blow the radar movie won't think about it once games start, you know, next week. But it's, it's that kind of sharp behavior where you're on all the time. I mean, it's what made somebody that deals Mike Rizzo is made over the year so special, right? You get a guy off the waiver wire. You get a guy off the scrap heap and you turn him into a productive player and then spin that player for profit. They got everything. They got years of good play out of John Ridgeway. Right? And now that wasn't all this for seems doing, by the way. I mean, they didn't acquire John Ridgeway, but he, he, you find him. He plays for you. Does well enough, I suppose. To be a commodity that someone else wants and he became expendable because of the nature of that room at this point. And the guy that you drafted in the second round to, to layer some talent. So when that's the case, when someone's not part of your plans for the long term, you don't do the thing that Washington did for so many years under Dan and Bruce, nobody. And I mean, nobody would hold on to guys more and then be sort of stunned that this is all they could get when they're dealing somebody out of spite, right? Like the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, this isn't a right home and tell your parents, you've seen the greatest trade of all time. Nobody's saying that. A six round or a pick swap is not, is not, you know, the, the over the top difference maker, but it's just a good procedure. It's just, as you said, it's good football acumen. It's playing not only for this year, but having the plan for next year and beyond. It's sharp. I like it. I don't understand why the saints would have traded a six and a pick swap for him. And I'm not pretending like that's some amazing thing. Asset that they packaged for Ridgeway. In fact, it's quite literally not. We know that, but look at their D tackle room. I just pulled up their depth chart. I don't understand why there was a huge urgency for Ridgeway. Maybe he ends up being in the rotation top three, four guys that imagine he will be, but they have. Kaitlyn Saunders, Nathan Shepherd, they just drafted a six round rookie named Christian Boyd who made the team. Brian Brussy, who remember the first round pick a few years ago. Last year, two years ago? Last year. Okay. First rounders. One of four guys is listed as a backup on their depth chart. I mean, they have on their 53 right now, six D tackles, of which Ridgeway is one. So I don't know, unless somebody got hurt or there's something I don't know about. That's just weird to me. You don't see teams trade for guys that might get cut very often, but they have a lot of fun. But maybe it's not like a conditional seventh. You know, it's not a seventh round pick in 26 or something. It's a sixth round pick this year and a pick swap. Like that's a priority that you get that guy. Yeah. You wanted them. Yeah. I think they probably decided they had need for that specific still set, right? The rough and tumble sort of. You know, rough and tumble. Yeah. You know, rough and tumble. You know, run stuff in type do just to deal with whatever maybe is in their division or something like that. Again, I don't quite understand it to be honest with you, but you know, God bless. We'll take the pics. I've got two Ridgeway memories that stand out to me. That's about it. When I do have two and I'll thank him for his services in the nation's capital. The first was a viral picture of him showing up to work. It was like a slow motion Baywatch type video of him in overalls walking through the parking lot. At commander's facility. No undershirt. I don't know why he was dressed like that or when it was what the deal was, but it was just a great video. It's like slow motion of Ridgeway in overalls with his chest hanging out. Just walking up to the facility was hilarious. That's my main memory of him. Okay. The second one is when he body slammed a dude from the Houston. That's my memory is the is the power bomb or the, the, I don't know what they called it, the DDT, a stone cutter. I don't know what it was. I think the street profits have done that to a guy. They have him together. Both of them together. Mm hmm. I remember where I was when John Ridgeway did that. Where were you? New Orleans at Manning's restaurant. Peyton and Archie. Why were you there? Cause Washington was in, who are they, who are they playing? Was that a Houston game? It was the Texans. I'm thinking it was when my wife and I went to the LSU game to go see Jayden Daniels a couple years ago. Oh, it's all you Johnny come lately is like Jayden Daniels. Now I went to Baton Rouge and saw him in the first of his two years at LSU. Okay. Before he was a Heisman trophy winner. Okay. Before it was cool. All you geese now flocking to tell me that Jayden Daniels is the man. I went to Baton Rouge cause I love Jayden Daniels first. We know it's so weird about that. Is this is now? How many years ago was that? So that was two years ago? Two years ago. Three. Four years ago. It's not a competition. Yeah. But I was in North Carolina and I went to a high school game. Really? And I saw, yeah, I saw Drake May play in high school. I'm just saying like I'm not competing with you. I'm just, I'm just telling you that something that happened. Is that interesting? No way. Yeah. Wow. It is North Carolina high school, which there's no need to ask me what the name of it was. It was high school North Carolina. Oh, it was Friday night. I saw Jayden Daniels at San Bernardino high school. Did you really? Yeah. That's so fun. I saw Jayden Daniels at Peewee football. I actually, it's so funny. I know Jay Daniels' parents. No way. I helped. I helped. I introduced them. No way. Yeah. Wow. So like they're like, we're expecting him. Like he's going to be great. I know it, you know, so like I was there from the beginning. I was there. I helped deliver Jayden Daniels dead. Did you really? Yes. That's amazing. You weren't. They needed to help. I was just in the hole. I don't think the timing works there. And they were like, someone need to come into the room. And then I just, I just, I put on scrubs and I ran in and it was just me. I can't top that. Okay. Because that's like time machine type stuff. Yes. I win then. Yeah. You were there first. But yeah, John Ridgeway. He body slammed a guy once. That was the day I tried Ben Yays for the first time. And yes, because I didn't know I know like Ben Yays, I thought it was like some weird French thing. And what it was was basically like a fried Oreo or like a donut. Yeah, it's a fried donut with powdered sugar on it. It was the greatest. If only someone had told you. I was eating Ben Yays while John Ridgeway body slammed a guy because you know I have that thing where I can remember where I am. Yeah. When I'm watching. You remember where you are? I remember where you were. Exactly. I remember where I was. I was eating Ben Yays at Manning's in New Orleans waiting to go to the airport watching. That was a Texans team led by the long neck guy. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Come on. Oh, long neck McGoo. Don't tell me it. Don't tell me it. There's long neck guy. Glenn. Glenn. Not Mike Glenn. Another long neck guy. Davis Mills. Davis Mills. BAM. Davis Mills. I think that was a gross game of memory serves. Oh, it was bad. Was that a big dumb game? Was that after our trip to New Orleans when I gained 17 pounds? Oh, it was way after. Okay. Just a couple of years ago. Yeah. And part of the reason I gained all the weight was the Ben Yays first. Like, I would have a Ben Yay pre-breakfast before we went to Brennan's to have breakfast. Like, that's how you put on that kind of weight. You commit to it and you wouldn't come at Ben Yays with me. I remember that. You're like, nah. I can do that guy. I didn't, I didn't know what they were yet. It's just a word I'd never heard of that sounded bad. There was a place a hundred yards from the front door of the Omni where we stayed just off of Burban that has phenomenal Ben Yays. It's right. It was right there. What, what do we got in the morning? It's a delicious street. I know. Grant and Danny on the fan, the practice squad has been determined. Let's get into who is back and who left flight out of the nest and will play elsewhere this year that we wanted back. Also, the Cowboys made a big splash move in their backfield. Is it going to matter? And Montez sweats chirping a bit about his days with the commanders all coming up on Grant and Danny. [silence] [silence] [silence] That's played a night Yankees in DC to take on the national six forty five first pitch rubber match series on the line between the two this evening, best of three. We'll get you to pregame at six fifteen with Charlie and Dave. We'll get you ready for Nat's baseball with our own little preview coming up in just a few minutes. Top of the hour on Grant and Danny NFL headline John Lynch met with reporters just a few minutes ago. He expects hold in wide receiver Brandon Ayuk to be on the practice field this afternoon. Remember three hour difference so they haven't practiced yet out on the west coast. He was asked what happens if Brandon Ayuk doesn't show up in practice today and he said we'll deal with that. So he's saying they think he's going to be on the field he's supposed to. I'm going to bet that he's not there. Kyle Shanahan would ask something similar said quote, I hope so and quote so seems resolved everything's fine. If they just close their eyes long enough, maybe it'll go away. He doesn't have a whole lot of leverage. I guess he could sit out handful of weeks if you really, really wanted to, but eventually he got to show up to a crew the season. So at some point he's going to walk through that door. I just don't think he's going to on a Super Bowl caliber team with a chance to go have a monster year in that offense and not going to cost yourself money next year by lowering your numbers and really being the malcontent who didn't show for the season to start. It's one thing if you don't want to go to camp you don't want to play in the preseason whatever. Because of today and certainly Monday it's a different ball game. I think that's it because no matter how principled you feel like you might be like you've been wrong. Let's say for the sake of argument that that you're furious and you'll you'll never let it go. You're still not doing you're not getting what you want by, you know, standing fast and living on belling it. You know what I mean? It's just not going to happen for you. So it doesn't mean that you don't earn yourself more without playing good football. The path to get out of there is the dominate there. The Cowboys signed Dalvin Cook. We've poked fun at that running back room a lot and it got younger. Actually, that's a good thank you. I actually love this move for Dalvin Cook because there's not another place in the league where you could sign right now and possibly end up being the lead back at some point in the first half of the season. He's 29. So that's funny. We joke about the age. But he was an 1100 yard back four straight seasons from 19 through 22 in Minnesota went for 1100 1500 1100 1100. They pretty much saw the writing on the wall in that final season of 2022 that maybe he was not as good as some of his numbers. He had a career low 4.4 yards per carry. So he felt a lot of favor. They moved on from him last year is with the jets is bad there and then the Ravens he never got to play there. Two teams averaged a total of 3.2 yards per carry, worst, it's been on 67 attempts and then couldn't get a gig this off season. He's also had some off field trouble, turmoil, some issues he's dealt with as well. But four time pro bowler going to Dallas. I do think he's going to play for them because that's a bad running back situation. Yeah, there's there's no, listen, if this is five years ago, it's the greatest running back situation ever assembled. It's clearly not five years ago, though. They're going to have to do something down there, whether it's rotate guys to keep these guys with a lot of mileage fresh and cook and Elliot. And yeah, I'm really sure what the plan is. Speaking of him being signed to the active roster for the Cowboys. It sounds like Washington is going to get a boost with a player returning as well. Now, this is not someone from outside the organization. Brandon Coleman just told reporters this afternoon he should be full go. No restrictions that the injuries behind him and that the rookie left tackle is going to be on the practice field tomorrow. That's a major deal. This is one of the tipping point picks that makes this off season really, really good or a question mark. This is one of those things where Brandon Coleman is a starter and is able to go and plays at the level that they think is, remember, a lot of the teams are doing their evals had him as a guard. Washington did not. They didn't go out and again in a week free agency class and sign anybody. This was their solution at tackle to move on from a guy that had played for a while in terms of Leno who hasn't caught anywhere else or to have a swing tackle and Lucas start for a short amount of time. They think they got something to Coleman. If they do, we're going to view this whole thing differently before we get to the practice squad that Washington put together and before we talk about Montes sweat taking some shots and his former team here in DC, which we teased and we will get to before we get out of here.
