Got three great segments for you guys. We got my conversation with Philip Slavin of the 10-12 network host of the 10-12 pod. The flagship, the flagship podcast of the 10-12 network. We'll have Mason both of Casey online after this, and then Trace and Christian from Sons of UCF, giving us a great preview of UCF Colorado, weather permitting happening this weekend. So we got a good group. Really because of how long my conversation with Philip Slavin went. I'm not going to end the show with basketball talk. I think on Wednesday, the plan is Wednesday. I will have a basketball kind of preview episode we'll talk. There's basketball schedule in drum tank media availability, and then there was some player media availability. So it will be a little bit kind of old by that point, but I figured, "Hey, we'll give basketball a full episode on Wednesday." Thursday, we will be working to have some sort of Thursday conversation, some sort of guest. The plan right now is to do on Friday case state fan cast around the horn. So have some folks lined up right now. We're trying to finalize the final spot, but you have one representative from the Aggieville alley cats, one from cocaine, Willie. I'm looking to lock in the final spot as well. So that's what we'll have on Friday, and then we'll figure something out for next Monday and Tuesday as we go through five episodes for the bi-week look. It doesn't matter what's going on. We've got five episodes happening all rest of the year. I mean, we'll see what happens in December, but again, that's the plan. Rest of the year, five episodes. So I'm looking forward to it. We'll still have game review on Monday and Q&A on Tuesday and then the following week on Wednesday. We'll start preparing for that Colorado game. So the following week, that is. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it. Getting some good shows planned out. And yeah, so I'm looking forward to it. Before we get into the segments, we do have some press availability from Connor Riley and Joe Clanderman before we'll get to all of our friends. Before we get there, we'll give a shout out to our friends over lots of friends. I guess is my favorite word for this episode. But our sponsors, Charlie Hustle, they're absolutely amazing. I'm wearing something from their Crown Town collection right now as Kane City Baseball might be back in the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade. As long as they just absolutely don't collapse in the final three games and as long as the twins don't go undefeated in their final four as of time of recording. So I'm pumped off. I'm rocking some of them from their baseball collection. I have stuff from their Kansas City football collection. I have official licensed stuff with K-State. I have NIL shirts. Just about everything you can imagine from Charlie Hustle. I own it. It doesn't matter. That's going to probably be like 82 at kickoff. I'm rocking a Charlie Hustle crew neck sweatshirt to the game because it's comfortable. It's like my own little security blanket as I will be nervous as all hell comes Saturday at 11 AM. So it's like my own little Linus security blanket. My Charlie Hustle crew neck sweatshirts. They look good. They feel good. They're comfortable. They're stylish. They are absolutely amazing. Go check them out. Like I said, it isn't just K-State. Officially licensed gear with all the big 12. They got some of those schools down in Texas. North Texas, Texas State, SMU. They got Arkansas, Missouri. I hate those schools, but they have them. Iowa, Nebraska. Like I said, the entire big 12. Do you want a new bomber jacket? Boom, they got you covered. T-shirts. You know it. Crew necks. Hoodies. All of it. Get over to Charlie Hustle today. Charlie Hustle. Vintage made fresh. All right. We're starting with Connor Riley. He opened it up. Riley's saying, hey, you don't want to discredit BYU's defense. Credit to their fans in that environment, but we beat ourselves. He talked about eight penalties, five of which are in the red zone. And he just said, hey, like we had the mistakes on ourselves. Like ourselves. Talking about 0-3 in the red zone when you're going for touchdowns. That's not going to win you games again. This is all stuff we've talked about. He realizes that, again, these coaches aren't dumb. They might make mistakes. And he does elaborate on some of the play calls later. If you want to listen to the whole thing, it is on YouTube. But they realize that the mistakes were made. And again, he talked about how there were some positives. And sometimes when it all goes as bad as it did, you have to search a little harder for those positives. But he realizes that a lot of that's on the offense. Now Joe Clanderman tried to take some blame on defense. We heard Chris Clime and do that during his availability earlier this week as well. Obviously, they're not pointing fingers at each other, but we all saw the collapse. And some of it was individual players. And again, I'm sure things could have been coached better as well. But he was pointing out that it was a game full of mistakes, especially on the offensive end. He said that they're getting closer on the passing game. It's moving forward. Some of them need to continue to work on. But he feels like it is continuing to progress. I think it was Parker Evans on Twitter. I can't remember who had it. I'm probably going to butcher the stats. But it basically was pointing out that a lot of the success in the passing game so far has come when we're in play action. And I think like about 40% of the pass has been play action. 60% pure drop back and the success rate much higher on play action. No interceptions play action. More touchdowns out of play action. And that's where the success has been. And I think a lot of that does come down to how good we've been on offense. Again, I said during the Q and A, I want to see more play action. I want to see more roll outs. I don't want to be stuck in this drop back passing game. And hopefully we do see some more of that on Saturday. And they aren't deciding to have a big package of just drop back. Now, just a fan with a microphone. So maybe they'll figure it out. But that's what I'm hoping for. I'm hoping to see that progress a little bit. Because I have a feeling, you know, Oklahoma State is going to pack the box pretty deep. He was asked specifically, Connor is asked specifically about that first drive after the penalty that negated the Keegan Johnson touchdown was 39. He said the plan was because they anticipated BYU sitting back and really protecting the end zone and that first down marker. The plan was to get a big chunk with DJ, then go for it on fourth down. Go from, you know, third and nine down to fourth and two, fourth and three. Obviously, they only picked up three yards with fourth and six. And that's why they kicked the field goal. That was the thinking behind that. He did say he didn't say who the two players were. He said that there was a miss by two of the players heard the wrong call. It was down near their student section said that isn't a excuse. They need to be better. But that's what happened that he was asked specifically about that third and nine play in the handoff to DJ. The final thing they took away, he really appreciated how Avery's been in practice, how he's responded. Then he also said it's not just Avery who struggled in that game, especially in the final few minutes of the first half. Everyone had some problems there and he said it's not just on Avery. We need all of our best players and all of our most experienced players to play better. I will be interested to see how the offense does. Again, something we talked about on Wednesday would have been on Wednesday. I think we're going to know everything we need to know about both the offense and defense after the first two drives on Saturday. And I'm hoping, you know, I'm sitting there in section seven thing myself. All right, they're ready to respond versus. Oh, they're still shook up. Joe Clanderman talking about what happened on Saturday said that they had some bad tackling and also bad exchanges on man defense need to be better. He talks about it a little later. I'm jumping around a little bit, but he talked about how the struggles have come mainly in man defense. And it's been not technique, but it's not trusting the eyes and lack of communication. And again, I thought that was solved after the two lane game. Obviously, it was not again, hoping they have a big bounce back. He talked a lot about Presley for Oklahoma State and said that he's really, you know, hurt us a few times over the last handful of years and said that, you know, when you're going up against all the Gordon and you're going up against, you know, RPO type of team that Oklahoma state is. You have to do a lot of man on man. He said, Hey, we trust our secondary guys, you know, if they put themselves in a situation be competitive, they can make plays. It's about making sure that you are, you know, assigned sound and communicating to get in those situations. Said that when you look at Oklahoma State, they're going to go blazing fast out of their script. They know what they want to exploit from you. They know what you don't do well early, says that they're going to have to really master that chess game early. Says, Hey, they're entrenched in what they do on offense. They're in their own RPO world. We need to disrupt that. And that's going to be the key for them. And let's see. It says that, Hey, nothing that happened versus two lane or BYU was new to them. No excuses for any of the miscommunication by the secondary. Again, they really answered the bell versus Arizona. I'm hoping we see the same versus Oklahoma State on Saturday. So that's all I took away. Again, if you want to watch both press conferences in their entirety and over to the case, it sports YouTube page. I believe case it online and go Para Cat also has that up on YouTube as well. That's all you have. You'll hear from me here in a bit my conversations and extended conversation with Philip Slavin getting the Oklahoma State point of view on Saturday. So that's going to come after Mason, who you will hear next. And then we'll end, like I said, with our guys Trace and Christian from Sons of UCF, giving us a big 12 game of the week primer. So, with that said, you know, definitely be back Monday. Hopefully it's a lot more fun show on Monday and Tuesday. But until then, we love you guys and go Cats. Just search the Nat Kum Show on your podcast platform of choice. As my favorite rapper and only rapper that I know once said, guess who's back again? Mason's back, Telefren. That's right, another primer, a second of the season. Once again, Scott's having to go to the bullpen, and he needs a reliable arm. And he says, oh my gosh, Brandon Maurer, you suck. Who else was back there? Willie Peralta in 2018, you also suck. So what did he have to do? So dig deep. He had to bring in the Lucas Ursig, the Joaquin story at 1.0. Brad Keller, as a rookie coming out of the bullpen, lights out, got himself a job in the rotation. I'm back to help deliver a win to the Wildcats as they get ready to take on Oklahoma State. And they need it in a big way because it was not a fun time in Provo, Utah, once the game actually kicked off. Everything not related to the scoreboard and the play on the field was awesome about Provo. I don't have enough nice things to say about it, like I just, it could go all day. It's a beautiful place, beautiful people. They were really nice, awesome game environment. And that is one of those that is probably now the number one destination for people. It should be in terms of going to a big 12 road game. But K-State sits at three and one now. They already have one loss in the big 12 column, which is not very good because there are nine games. I think seven and two is probably based on the way things are shaping up, going to get you into the conference championship. But that means that the margin for air is very limited now for K-State. And there's a scenario where eight and one really is the only way to certainly guarantee yourself a spot there. And now they have to run the table to do so. There can be some questions about if they're polished enough to make that happen. Overall, though, I'm not going to change the way that I view what this season can be until they get that second loss in league play, especially depending on when it comes. I'm still thinking that this team is the second best in the big 12 long term in terms of what they look like against Utah currently. Because it's pretty simple to look at the BYU game and chalk it up to being a little flooky. DJ Giddens fumbles the football something he'd never done at K-State. And unlike K-State's situation, where K-State has only recovered one fumble this season. They have forced four fumbles. They've only recovered. One of them, now it turned out, that it was Jack Faber's touchdown that he had. But on four fumbles, one recovery. And meanwhile, BYU, DJ Giddens fumbles first time, scoots right to him. They take it back for a touchdown. They get a 10-6 lead. And then at that point, there are some issues and breakdowns on the screen interception that Avery Johnson was trying to throw to Dylan Edwards. The next interception in the second half, that ended up being just a young guy not knowing that it's okay to eat the ball and not force things and try and make a play. So things kind of snowballed. It's a little flooky with the way things played out in Provo. K-State was in control of that game early until a couple of errors didn't go their way. And there was just no chance that they were going to be able to make it up with the way that things were going on Saturday night. One really not good thing to come out of Provo, Utah, aside from all the pre-snap penalties and wiping away good plays, which is something K-State had done in the three games prior to it, is Braden Lofton's injury. He was walking around at halftime of the game, heading back to the locker room, wasn't really doing a whole lot with his right leg, was keeping it pretty straight. And Chris Klimann said it's a lower body injury right now, doesn't seem like he's going to play, and we know how important all three tight ends have been to K-State this season. That includes Garrett Oakley, who was banged up going into the game with BYU. So the tight ends are starting to take some hits, and they're necessary because the wide receivers have not done anything for K-State currently, which is why I think when we're talking about guys that need to step up on each side of the ball for K-State, offensively, any receiver. I don't care who you are, what you do, what it looks like. If you are listed as a receiver, just one of you step up and make some plays in this game against Oklahoma State, because the Oklahoma State defense, they are prone to giving up some plays through the air. On the season, Oklahoma State allows over 100 yards more passing a game than they do on the ground, and they're not good in either of those categories when we're talking total yardage. They're giving up 281 yards per game in the air to their opponent 180 on the ground, so receivers have to be ready to step up, make some plays again. Don't care who it is. I think Chase Brown and Keegan Johnson have shown enough to this point this season where they're clearly the number two's. I have some trust in Keegan Johnson that wasn't there after the first couple of games. You need a number three to step up. We'll see who ends up cashing in on that this weekend. The other offensive key for K-State this week, player-wise, is going to be Avery Johnson. He proved that he could get right after some early struggles against UT Martin, and then two lanes. That second half of two lane was a lot better, and then Arizona, he played a really strong game. Now it's about bouncing back from the worst game of his college career, and also starting to develop a little bit more of that. Okay, the ball should go here, not the ball is ready to go here. I think that's been one of the issues with his passing game is he doesn't have that full trust yet to throw some balls where a guy isn't quite in position, and they're going to go do it. Now that's hard to do because of the receiver situation for K-State right now. I'm fully aware of that, and I think the scary thing would be is that he tried to be trusting of Dylan Edwards being in that spot on that screen pass he threw, and Dylan Edwards wasn't there for whatever reason, whether it was miscommunication on their part, or I know that the offensive line, there were some tanglings that happened there, but hopefully that doesn't derail him trying to move forward and improve on that side of things. Defensively for K-State, Oklahoma State's offensive line has been talked about a decent amount this offseason, and then the way the season has started. In the off season, the conversation was, man, look at all these guys they bring back, they're going to be really good, and as the season's got going, I think people have started to talk down on them a little bit more. Their pass blocking is still phenomenal, they've only allowed one sack this season so far, and when you look at how things end up playing out for them, you know, PFF, not the gospel in any way, but I think when Ollie Gordon has struggled, people are like, "Well, you know, that offensive line's not really doing a ton either." They still grade out really well in the passing area, and actually overall they're grading out better than they did at any point last year, so if you take the average of this year versus 2023, they're better this year. But the pass blocking is key, and Brendan Mott is playing like a stud through the first four games, he needs to do it in game five, set the table for all those edge-reshers, because the other thing to know is that Alan Bowman is going to get the ball out very quick. The Oklahoma State offense, they're going to put the ball in the air a ton of times, and they're going to give him easy throws that he can make quickly and try and get some pops off of that. He's a lot worse when he has to throw it down field, so if you're going to try and get pressure on Alan Bowman, you've got to get there pretty quick, got to make some impressive moves, so you need Brendan Mott there. Then we've got to move back in the defense for who I'm calling out number two, Keenan Garber, he's going to have to lead the way, he's shown probably the best ball-hocking skills of any of the DB's that are seeing the field. So far this season, he's going to have to kind of lead this group to try and force some turnovers. They didn't force any against BYU, he had the big pick against Arizona, and Alan Bowman comes in as a guy that's already throwing four picks this season. He led the big 12 in interceptions last year with 14. He is not the best when it comes to making certain decisions, put him in a tough spot, got to try to turn him over, something K-State did not do last year in Stillwater. A common theme that all these losses have in common is that yes, the offense has had struggles at times, but the defense has certainly done them no favors in some of these games that they've lost over the last handful of years because they're not forcing turnovers. So that is probably where I go on the player side of things. In terms of what I think the key for a K-State win is going to be, basically what I just said right there, try to make some pressure to make Alan Bowman uncomfortable, that is a hard thing to do. So if you're not going to do it defensively, you're going to have to have these DBs really step up. It's time to look and find the ball when it's in the air. Don't just stand there and let the receivers come down to make plays because Oklahoma State has a handful of guys that if they come down with it, they can make a lot happen after the catch. That is very, very important. And I think on the other side of things is you got to start fast and punch in touchdowns when you get the opportunity. K-State was able to do it against Arizona where they went down first drive touchdown. They were able to get the punt return then, so they scored touchdowns pretty quick in that game to get the lead take control and the defense was able to go from there. A little bit different story against Tulane where they struggled initially, they had to settle for that field goal. The Tulane and BYU games play out wildly differently if K-State is able to just go and punch in touchdowns early because then that other team already feels like they're at a disadvantage. The defense has played well enough to start these games to give you a chance. The offense has to actually cash in and take advantage of them. So settling for field goals, this means that Avery Johnson has to be better. The offensive line has to be better. Connor Riley has to be better. And at some point, they're going to have to start deciding what sacrifices do you make on that offensive line. How much are you going to penalize some of the players that keep making these pre-snap mistakes that are taking things off the board from you? And Connor Riley, again, that falls at his feet because that is his group right there. Something's got to be figured out. Something's got to give. All right. Now, in terms of what I think Oklahoma State might do in this game that would kind of give me some PBGBs, I'm not overly scared of Oklahoma State right now. They've not played very well this year. They probably should have lost it home to a not very good Arkansas team. Last week, you got Utah without their starting quarterback, Cam Rising, which has been the key to a lot of their success. And you weren't able to really be in that game. You made it somewhat interesting at the end, but Utah was still able to get a massively 22 to 3. The only thing that concerns me is something that hasn't happened yet this season. And it's the fact that Ollie Gordon is a sleeping giant right now. Everybody knows what he did last year, over 1600 yards, 6.3 a carry. Through four games this season, though, he's still under 260 yards, only averaging three and a half yards in attempt. And he hasn't scored a touchdown in the last two games. Another really interesting note, and this comes from PFF, 83% of Ollie Gordon's yardage this season is coming after contact. That's 23% worse than last year. We're only 60% of his yards came after contact. The Oklahoma State run game is not the same as it was over the last nine games of last season. Well, nine regular season games. The concern would be is that last year, K-State was kind of the breakout game for Ollie Gordon. He had a really good one in Iowa State the week before, and then he went off for 160 plus against K-State. That's my biggest concern is that this is the game that Ollie Gordon wakes up, and if Ollie Gordon wakes up, I don't know that there's anything K-State can do to stop it. That's why they're going to have to be so good everywhere else. But I'm pretty confident in Joe Clanderman, this defense, and how things have been going with both of these teams. K-State being at home is mighty helpful. I feel good about this one for K-State. That's probably the wrong thing to say and do, but I think the cats end up getting the win in this game, and I'm going to take K-State by the score of 31 to Oklahoma State with 13. I think that's probably the scenario that we sit in. Who knows? We saw 48-nothing two years ago when these teams got together. I certainly won't rule that one out either, but that's where I go. We saw 13 cats this weekend. I just don't think Oklahoma State's very good right now. I think K-State's a good team that had an awful game last week with a lot of things that didn't go their way. So many of the things that went wrong are not replicable. The only things that are are some of those pre-snap penalties, and for the most part, K-State was probably going to overcome those if it wasn't for some wild, wacky stuff that happened over the latter half of the first half and into the second half. That's where I sit. We'll see how the cats look this weekend. If you want more of me or probably more of my co-workers, Derek Young and Drew Galloway, go to on three, become a member of K-State online. So that will do it for me today. Thanks for having me again, Scott. I always enjoy coming on and firing up the boys. I don't know that I've ever lost a primer, except for maybe the sugar bowl, but screw Nick Saban for having a good culture where he's the only coach of an SEC school not in the culture playoff over the last 10 years to have all of his guys say, "Actually, I want to keep playing coach. I want to keep playing for my school." Screw loyalty for the big dogs. That's only meant to be for the medium dogs, like us at K-State. ♪♪♪ Alright, thank you to Mason. At least the plan is Mason to send me a K-State primer. I trust him. He hasn't come through yet, but I trust it's going to be there. And instead of just having this guy record something and send it to me, I want it to talk to him. He is the head honcho of the 10-12 network. He is the host of the flagship show the 10-12 podcast. Sometimes he makes me mad and I text him angry thoughts while I'm walking Chauncey listening to his show. And sometimes he gets really bad reviews based on guests that have come on. I don't think that's ever been me, but I haven't gone back and checked. It's Phillip Slavin of the 10-12 network and the 10-12 pod. Welcome back to Bosca's voice to talk about. There needs to be some sort of name for this. I've called it the land-grant gauntlet or the land-grant grapple. I think back in 2021 of our COVID shows, I came up with a rivalry name for everyone in the conference at the time, only nine other teams. I think that's what I landed on with that. Should this have a rivalry name? Should there be a trophy? Should it be embraced more? Is it just like, hey, we've been playing forever and it's a football game? So two thoughts here, number one. That's how I've gotten it all out at you. I have gotten a review about you and it was a five-star positive where they wanted me to bring you on more. And I'm still convinced that you wrote the review. So that's a positive. No, I know you didn't. I don't like myself. I am way too self-loathing to ever do that. As for the rivalry, everyone's like, you can't force a rivalry. You can't force a rivalry. I'm not trying to force rivalries, but there's nothing wrong with having more fun trophies in college football. There's nothing wrong with having silly things that we can enjoy as the game continues to change in ways that make it look less like it has forever. Then one of the fun things is silly trophies that we can poke fun at. Everyone makes fun of the civil conflict trophy, right? Was it UConn and US stuff? And I'm like, what's wrong with that? It's fun. Like we make jokes about it. We enjoy it. It's become part of the fabric of football. It's why I made a fake trophy for Arizona Kansas State called The Scratching Post, which I think is hilarious. And so did a lot of other people. And I'm just like, let's have fun trophies. For me, Geddon needs a real trophy. Kansas State, Oklahoma State. Yeah, I think the land grant makes a lot of sense. I think it's a fun name for it. There's nothing. And especially now that you have four technically five, but four teams from the big eight who have been in this conference the whole time and haven't left again. Colorado's back. We can include them in this if we want. But like, they're a little trophy for the four teams if they all play each other. I mean, it's just like, like, let's have fun. Let's have fun with these things. Oklahoma State and Texas Tech should be a rivalry. Like, it's just, it should. Farmageddon is a real thing. And then you try and pitch stuff and people are like, we're like, we're like, y'all, y'all. I'm not sitting here having to tell you that this game has to be, like, your number one rival important. I'm just saying, let's have fun. And I always love when I make jokes about that. And then you get the fan bases who get angry and are like, if it's not a game, if it's not a rivalry, why are you so antsy about it? Why are you so agitated by it? Why do you dislike them so much? I don't understand that. So it's fine. It's fine. It's fine. Texas Tech and Cincinnati play this week. So Tommy Tuberville Bowl loser has to have him back on their staff, okay, as an analyst. So there you go. I love it. Well, let's get a little insight into Oklahoma State. Sitting at three and one, you guys also took a loss to a Utah Big 12 school last year. It seems almost like a maybe not an elimination game, but hey, you go back to the base of Mount Everest and you have to make sure a lot of folks die trying to climb up to the peak, the peak being Arlington for you to have a shot to get there for both themes. I was a little surprised, because again, I'm not inside the Oklahoma State fan base. I saw a tweet. I think it was announcing when the game time was from the Oklahoma State Twitter account. I was just like, all right, let's read some of the replies. It was far more depressing and far more down than I anticipated from Oklahoma State fans. So what's the psyche amongst the fan base through the four games and coming off of that game versus Utah? It's not really good right now. Now, granted, it's, we're recording this on Thursday. So, you know, by Thursday, you're far enough removed from the first loss that fans are starting to buy back in, right? You got to buy back in. You have to. For your own mental health sake, you have to start trying to find some optimism, but there's plenty of things that are frustrating about this season and why fans are frustrated. You had it set up perfect for you last weekend against Utah. Isaac Wilson's not great. Like the Utah offense didn't do much. You got your best performance under defensive coordinator, Brian Nardo, the best the secondary has looked in his tenure. And the offense did nothing. You're like, well, the defense gave up 22 points. The defense was on the field for nearly three times as long as the offense was. If you're going to be on the field that long, you're going to give up some points and they had a couple of mental lapses that the last touchdown Utah got. There was a run earlier in the game where five guys chose to just try to hit Michael Bernard as opposed to actually wrapping him up and tackling him or that or he was covered in in grease and butter and just like, Oh, can you catch me? But other than that, the defense did its job. Like they're not giving up 22 points if they're on the field for half the game and not three quarters of it, two thirds of it. Right. So the offense was awful. And it comes down to the fact that all off season, I forget which publication it was. There was one that said Oklahoma State had the best offensive line in the country coming this season. I was just like, no, like, no, I get it. There, this is the most experienced offensive line in college football history. You've never had an offensive line with as many snaps as this one. And they're great against the pass. They're great for pass. The pass protection is is very, very good. The can't run. This team cannot run the ball. And the loaded box argument, like, there's some stats to say that's not really that bad. There's some other people who are arguing with, with semantics and stuff and that's fine. Teams have loaded the box. They absolutely have. But this team can't run block. They cannot, it's not Ollie Gordon's fault that he can't run the ball. Last year, Ollie, before contact, Ollie got 2.5 yards per carry before contact last year. This year it's 0.6. It's nearly two yards less. You say, well, he should still, you don't have a chance to get going. You're not going to make anybody miss when you're getting hit at or behind the line of scrimmage. Like, the fact that he's still averaging, like, 2.0 yards per carry. Like, he's still getting 2.0 with the stats, like 2.6 yards after contact. He's still gaining yardage after contact. He's just the contacts coming so early. He can't make as many guys miss. It's not Ollie Gordon's fault. I don't care who you are. They cannot run block. You have an offensive coordinator in Casey Dunn, who people have not been the biggest fan of. And look, no one ever likes their offensive coordinator. You love him or you hate him. And that varies week by week. Not been the biggest fan of him. You have an offensive line coach, former from Kansas State, who's been doing this forever. And this is awful. The fact that Mike Gundy has complained about the offensive coaching 3 times this season already, which means he's basically said something negative in regards or relation or around his fishing buddy Casey Dunn who's been on this for what feels like 100 years is really not a good sign of where things are, because that makes it come across as they don't know what the problem is and they don't know how to fix it. With as much experience as there is on this offensive line, with as much experience as there is in this coaching staff, that's bad. That's bad. That is absolutely atrociously bad. And so you can understand why fans are like, it all falls on Alan Bowman. And so, and no offense element. He was awful last week. So, so that brings me to it. Is Gundy doing like quarterback carousel or was it like, hey, we're looking for a spark in this individual game. Bowman doesn't have it for this game. Backup didn't have it for this game and the anticipation is Bowman will play the entire game in Manhattan. Yeah, so they, they, they binged Bowman at half. And Gundy's argument was that he wasn't injured. He just needed to catch his breath and calm down and they want to see if they could get a spark from Garrett Rangel, which I mean, that way about as well as I figured it would. I'm a florist. If you're going to go, if you're going to try to do a spark, go with the young guy. He hasn't had enough snaps with the first team to feel confident. Like, yeah, okay. Garrett Rangel has planted plenty of snaps and I just, I don't, I don't know, like, we can talk about Oklahoma State quarterback situation in the off season, but I'm not thrilled about it. Hey, and they brought it up in poor. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'm poor. Bring him back. Yeah, there we go. And he is, though. Then they brought Bowman back in and things got going. Part of it was based on if you test the defense, getting a little bit like. Bend a break. And born it was like it just took a while to figure things out. But the moment the guy started going forward and it was the most, I mean, everybody has called out like, that was one of the dumbest decisions we ever seen to make that call as opposed to letting Bowman come out in the second half having to have time to talk and think. And just play the second half, because it was kind of like the Arkansas game. Bowman was bad in the first half. And then the second half, they made adjustments. They figured it out. He came out and he was a much better quarterback. And so to bench him for Rangel because you needed a spark. I just, they knew what the defense was going to be. It's like, but then they acted like they had, it's just the offensive coaching and play calling and all of it was bad. I mean, Gundy said, like we ran one drive where we did all these different things and they worked and then we didn't do them again. Why didn't we do that? He is complaining about the offensive coaching. He is complaining publicly about the coaching. Gundy doesn't typically do that kind of stuff. There is an obvious frustration internally about the offense, the lack of the ability to get Ollie Gordon the ball and get him going. And the amount of pressure you're putting on Alan Bowman, who's done as good a job as he can. He's had a great game against Tulsa, a great second half against Arkansas, a bad half against Arkansas and a bad game against Utah. And then he played fine against South Dakota State. But that's like, okay, that's what you expect from a guy when you have no runs. That's the Alan Bowman experience right there. But then again, you don't have any runsport. You can't run the ball. You cannot run the ball. You cannot run the ball. Mike Harris on Twitter at the Mike Harris had this one. They're averaging 96.3 yards per game on the ground, which is not the worst in the FBS all note that is. Now it's 96.2. It's 115th in the country. TCU is worse. Colorado is worse. So, you know, in the big 12 has a. It's not only bad, it might be historically bad because it barely outpaces the worst ever game rushing average, which was since 1956. So since 1956, the worst rushing yards per game was 93.6 in 2001. It's 96.2 right now. This is so immensely unacceptable with the experience that you have brought back on the offensive line with all the Gordon with everything you brought back. This is what you're doing. This is. I feel like we're sending ourselves up the exact same way we did last year. You get super fresh and then yeah, kind of put it on K state. So I'm going to try to move on so you don't. So that's it. The difference last year. The difference last year was the quarterback carousel nonsense, right? Like it was like we're trying to hold back. We're doing this quarterback. We're doing this goofy thing that we're doing. And then they completely changed everything in the by week, the idle week before Kansas state. They changed things up. They shifted the offensive game plan a bit for that week off. There's no week off this week. There's no week off this week. You're not at home. You're on the road the week after getting thumped by Utah. And I mean embarrassed by Utah. They only scored 22 points. I don't care what the final score was. You got embarrassed. That game was not as close to the final score indicates Utah won that game and it never felt close. I don't care. And I did not buy into the end of it. Oh, they're scoring. No, no, it's not going to happen. Which, again, last year, what happened most of the games they won. They got down there and turned the third quarter and they found ways to come back. They did it against Arkansas. They tried to do it against Utah, but it was too, too little, too late. Why does it take three quarters for you to get stuff figured out for the last year plus? Why do you, why can't you not figure out what's wrong with your on the game? Why did it take you three games to go with the quarterback last year? We all knew you were going to go back with in the fourth place. Why do you have the super experienced offensive line? This isn't like, okay, well, we have this player. This one's not working out here. This is no, no. You don't get to like, you want to play. Well, the players aren't executing. There they are the most experienced offensive line in college football history. The excuse of blaming the players. This falls on coaching. An old offensive line coach, an old offensive line coach. I don't care how long he's been doing it. Experience doesn't always guarantee success off into line. Now, an offensive coordinator who's basically put out some of the worst offenses of the Mike Gundy era. I get to keep his job because he's a really good wide receiver coach and he's my Gundy's friend. Coaching consistency is great. It's awesome. You would love to be able to retain coaches and keep them around and keep that consistency for your, your, to build your. I can't think of continuity. Hot nudity is great. Your, your, your program is personality. Okay. Identity? Is that what you're going for? Yeah. Yes. Sure. I'm just still a word I'm trying to, oh, she calls it cowboy culture, whatever your culture, your culture. Thank you. But just like players, we're talking about returning production, right? Returning production is only as good as returning production is good. Like, it's great to have a turning production. It doesn't mean anything if it's everybody sucks. Right? Like, great. They all suck last year and they're all back. Well, that's not going to make things good. Continuity from coaching is great. If they're good coaches. And I don't think they're bad coaches in Oklahoma State, but I definitely think it's time to make some changes because this is embarrassing. All right. So getting into this game, there was a couple of random Twitter accounts claiming that Pressy was going to be out this game. I couldn't find anything on that. Is there any injury news? Is that just some random burner account trying to get traffic to their Twitter account? What's, what's going on with injuries with Oklahoma State right now? I haven't heard anything in that regard. I haven't had a chance to listen to feels like 45 yet. It's a Oklahoma State show of the network. So maybe they maybe they'll drop a hint or something in there. But I haven't heard or seen anything. I haven't seen these tweets a lot. If there was something to that. Some widespread. There would be more of a conversation about it. Figured I would ask on there. So obviously things are going to get going. Who is an individual player to on each side of the ball that needs to step up if things are going to course correct on Saturday for Oklahoma State. On the offensive side of the ball, I'd love to say it's only Gordon, but again, it's not his fault. I'd love to say the offensive line, but they are what they are at this point. I'm going to say, Brendan, I'm going to say your shadow is on the offensive side of the ball. Shadow is going to get going, and he has. He's had great games. And I think this is a really good offensive law or wide receiver unit. We've seen everybody kind of do their part and step up in various spots in different games. I think it's a very versatile and deep wide receiver room and it's potential is dependent entirely upon Alan Bowman's success and consistency. But I think if a shadow and could really get going against this Kansas State secondary, that'll be a big for Oklahoma State because you're going to have to pass the ball. You're going to have to throw it a lot. You're already throwing a lot. I think that the OSU is running on like 36% of the snaps now because they can't. So why do you why try and run if you can't run? So they're going to throw the ball a lot. And so I think Rashad Owens is going to have to be the guy who's really going to have to get, he's going to get a lot of man on man, and he's going to have to beat his defender in the secondary and makes some big plays for Oklahoma State if they're going to have a shot to win. I think Brendan Pressley can have a day. I think if you're winning this game Rashad Owens is your wide receiver one in this game and he's putting up. He's putting up some yards and a couple touchdowns. What about on defense? Who are you looking to step up there? Because again, on paper looks like it was a decent game versus Utah. Good game versus Tulsa, but it does seem like you guys are giving up a few more rushing yards this year than in the past. So knock on wood for me. I'm hoping we have a big rushing day, but who could be the guy who steps up to slow down the rush at Utah. I'm going to cheat a little bit. I just the defensive line had its best performance of the season last week against Utah. And that was the biggest question mark on this defense was the defensive line. They can take that performance and replicate it on the road, which means limit the run, which they do. They do a really good job later as the games go on of adjusting to run schemes. Brynardo, they're not always great with the game starts, but Brynardo is really, really good at making adjustments defensively, especially at halftime in games. And so if the defensive line can do its job and apply pressure on Avery Johnson and try and see if you can get him into making a few mistakes and limit the run. They're going to give up some runs. Give up some big plays. Can you put pressure on the Kansas State offense and the offensive line in this game, the defensive line to me is going to discuss. You're going to give up some big runs. You're going to give up some deep passes. You're going to give up some explosive plays. Not just defense just does. They absolutely do. And especially earlier in games. But if the defensive line can do its job and replicate what it did last week coming on the road to Kansas State, that will determine, I think, more than anything else, whether or not Oklahoma State has a good day in Manhattan. Before we get to the money question, you know, we share a sponsor the entire network has Charlie Hustle, but I want to talk about Manhattan Brewing Company with you because I know how big of a fan you are of Manhattan Brewing Company. Folks, they're opening up at 10 a.m. in case you're not going to go to the game down in Wichita, their new location, the Manhattan Brewing Company lounge. You can watch it down there. If you're in Manhattan, you can watch it at the brewery. But of course, pick up some four packs, pick up some growlers wherever you are so you can bring it to your tailgates. Do a little beer moses if you want. You can, you know, just have a nice crisp, delicious beer before it gets too hot. Manhattan Brewing Company, truly the best brewery in the state of Kansas, crack open a couple this weekend because Phillip can't because he doesn't live in the great state of Kansas and Jake and all the boys at the brewery want me to tell you, they say hello. So shout out to Manhattan Brewing Company. I love those guys. They really are the best. We got to do another beer pairing. We talked about last time we were together. I think Halloween candy and beer. Well, so if I, if I had more like hindsight, we should have what we should have done is get beer and juice pairings for beer moses since this is an 11 a.m. game and paired those on your guys YouTube channel. But again, they're busy. I didn't get back until super late on Sunday. So maybe that might be maybe, you know, next August, you know, something in the future. But I think the Halloween candy might be one that we have to make happen in October. That would be good. Alright, so I will ask the money question before I do. Just give me like your one biggest key if Oklahoma State's going to win the game. What is that key and then what is your score prediction for the game. Um, you've got to make Avery Johnson look like he did improv. I got it. You're going to give up big plays. And you're going to give yards in the ground. But if Avery Johnson could be forced into making mistakes and turnovers again. It's a big part of why OSU was able to come back against Arkansas was Arkansas kept turning the ball over kept making mistakes. They forced turnovers from Isaac Wilson last week. It didn't matter because the offense couldn't do anything. The defense is then again going to have to step up because you just don't know what the offense is actually going to be able to do. So the defense is going to put that much more pressure on them. It's like 2021 all over again. Like the defense is going to have to be the ones to probably win these games and hope that the offense at least does its part. So if you can put Avery Johnson and continue to make him look mortal. Then Oklahoma State's got a shot at winning this game by keeping in a close game where OSU has a shot in the second half to either come back and take a lead or maintain a close leads that they can get this win. As far as final score. The home team has covered in this series the last six times in a row and covered I think comfortably. I have zero reason to think Oklahoma State's going to go on the road and suddenly look better again. There's no no idle week last week. This isn't in still water on a Friday night. It's you played Utah. Now you've got to go to Manhattan and play Kansas State who's coming off of a butt whooping so they're going to be itching and angry like everything about this sets up poorly for OSU Kansas State's going to win their car. Well I hope you're right Phillip. Where can folks find you on social media and find the show if they want to give good reviews no more bad reviews. So where can folks find all the good stuff you're doing for yourself and for the network. Scott let me just say as always it's a pleasure to come on the show can't say fans I love you I think there is at least one fan of every school in the Big 12 that thinks I hate their school which means that I have officially succeeded as a big 12 podcast host is everyone thinks that I hate their school or unbiased towards their rival so that's awesome so shout out Kansas State fans you know I love you all. You guys are so much fun. You and Scott again I don't think we could have picked a better I know we couldn't have picked a better Kansas State show to be in this network like just at all. There we go. Alright, so we will be going from our conversation with Philip to the boys over at us sons of UCF for our big 12 game of the week primer where we will hear their take their preview on the UCF don't call us golden nights versus Colorado and coach prime as long as the hurricane holds off Fox big noon kickoff will be there for the not big noon game. So it's afternoon kickoff so you guys can watch that after case state Oklahoma state so let's kick it over to one of my favorite if not my favorite shows in the network this sons of UCF so Philip thank you and let's go to the boys of sons of UCF let's dig into this matchup UCF and Colorado hosted in the bounce house Saturday showcase at 330 Eastern on Fox. Let's get into this a little bit more let's talk UCF offense for a moment. The game plan you heard it from RJ Harvey during the Monday media availability running back to the night saying we're going to run run and run and Colorado so far has shown an inability to run the ball or to stop the run. Yeah, I mean it's interesting because and I don't know how close you're following the random musings of Colorado Twitter accounts but several Colorado accounts got very angry today and pointed out that no they actually do stop the run well and that if you cut out it doesn't get easier than this as far as what your game plan is an offense you have RJ you can keep him fresh by subbing in miles and penny you know what KJ can do I mean we talk about the run game where where Colorado's really been hurt is they cannot contain a mobile quarterback and KJ has shown for those first three games he's not the JRP guy where he's gonna race down the field in half a second and then you know try to truck a linebacker anything like that but he is if he sees an opening he will take it he will take that seven or eight yards and I that's that's really all UCF needs to do throw enough to keep him honest but this is a run first offense against a team that can't defend the run. You know KJ started off a little shaky against New Hampshire and got better as the game went along but that's sort of crystallized in fans minds that they were concerned about him but he's been pretty steady since right and I know we've been talked about this how many passes do you want to see him throw I don't think we want to see him throw more than 25 or that means they're in some sort of shootout situation. I think that right now if you're time traveling and you see a box go with 25 plus pass attempts for KJ that means UCF lost the game. I mean I don't know a situation where if you're in control you want to do that and yeah I don't know the new Hampshire thing was scary and this is the thing about college football there's 12 games right so every game happens it's one game and that becomes your entire world of what the season is is what you've seen and you get a second game and it's a little more and the New Hampshire thing was overblown he looked solid against Sam Houston he gained my trust in that second half against TCU because when the game was on the line he did what he had to do and yeah I mean I think that you want him to throw the ball enough to keep Colorado honest honest and maybe avoid Dion Sanders claim that they're going to load the box and pray but I don't know how you I don't know how it is a game plan. Yeah you're doing something right when the opposing coach is saying he's praying that they can stop you but I don't know how you want to end up in a situation where he's throwing 30 passes and it doesn't mean disaster for UCF. You know who could have a big game in this one is tight end Randy Pittman Jr he's taking some pressure off of Kobe Hudson and you know Kobe Hudson's going to be covered. So we'll see what Randy does. I'd say though when you see a double digit point spread in this one UCF favored and when it came out I was like what 11 and a half and it continues to climb. We're going to have a pause on defense nights with one sack through three games and that is against a New Hampshire team Sam Houston. You know so give Shador Sanders some time he may find a wide receiver or two. Yeah this is not this is just not the game to not be able to get pressure on the quarterback UCF's minus 15 right now that's how high the line is climbed. I think I think UCF is going to win I'm predicting UCF when I just have a hard time with the way the defense is looked and with the tools that Colorado has on offense because listen we talk all the time about Shador Sanders. It's not just Shador Sanders it's Travis Hunter obviously receiver it's Jimmy Hornet receiver I mean they have they have problems as a team but skill time is not one of those problems and I just, if you can't get to Shador and can't get him early if you're letting him have all the time he needs to throw. I put a point I unless you're just while Dion's praying to live the box you're praying for rain from the hurricane that's like your only chance other than just getting him out of rhythm. Well you you bring up an intangible right a 330 game post hurricane a Saturday in late September it's still going to be very humid very hot that could be an advantage Colorado looking to get in a couple days earlier ahead of the storm. But Colorado heat far different from Florida heat that humidity could wear them down we saw it was Stanford a few years back we saw it with Pittsburgh. These teams wilted as the game went along and you know the game plan is going to be run at them and wear them down so that could be an expect you're here for the nights. Yeah, let me tell you something right now and not to take credit away from the bounce house atmosphere. I think one of the hottest times I've ever been in my life was at that four worth game against TCU I've, I, I, I, it was such an uncomfortable experience for the sun to go down in the heat to remain so I didn't like that but that's not the heat in Colorado I think you're right the I think Stanford is Stanford's the roadmap they're right we saw how gas they got and I just if you can keep running the ball, tire them out that humidity that he it's going to take a toll now that doesn't mean they're going to lose the game but it's an advantage that you want to press absolutely. Well I really thought having a bye week to prepare was a good thing until our friend Adam Eaton from the sons of UCF said that the nights are one and two coming out of a bye week under Gus falls on and I did not know that stat I did not like that stat have had time to prepare. We know what the game plan is can you execute the game plan. It is the most anticipated home game on the schedule for the nights and a great deal of buzz. New in Saturday from Fox on campus there's going to be thousands and thousands of students and fans out there full day of tailgating already for that 330 Eastern game on Fox should be fun nights have a real opportunity here on a national stage Christian. Yeah without a doubt I this is this is the I mean it's like we just said on around the kingdom this is the most buzz around a regular season game for UCF and some time both not just from the internal fan base of UCF and how am to they are but just from a national perspective I mean I just more than anything whatever happens in UCF is loading up recruits the brand of this game they're bringing in all their big targets I mean this is you never want to call a game a must win and I think that's always a ridiculous thing to say in game for the season but the rewards if you went on this stage are dramatic for getting UCF's brand back on track for national interest for hyping up the families going to Florida I just, there's a lot to like about winning this game there's this isn't one you want to see them lose. Who to thunk Colorado UCF a premier matchup in the big 12 going to be a fun one on Saturday. Hail to the purple, Hail to the white, Wildcat in spirit, Wildcat in fight, Hail Alma Mater from C to C.
