[MUSIC] Good morning and welcome in to the Captain J. Hood Morning Show on ESPN 1000. And streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan Jonathan Hood with you. Matt Eber flus, the head coach for the Bears joins his day 20. But right now time for a shot or no shot. Here's Shay Norlin, Shay. Good morning, boys on a Bears victory Monday. How are we feeling? Really good. Great football weekend, Saturday and Sunday. A lot of interesting twists and turns. When you think it's going to be one way, it goes the other. Especially in the NFL. I don't know how you guys gambling on a regular basis, man. It's tough. It's tough. Survivor pools are just straight up gambling minutes. You really don't know. Is there one thing that we definitively know in the NFL? No, because the survivor pool that I was in with our friend Peter from Miami, it ended after three weeks. They had a winner. So they restarted it this week. I have two entries with my brother. I took the Jets in one of them. You lost it home to the Broncos? See? What the hell, man? See? Five told you we're going to hold Denver to ten points. Oh, there's a win. I'm advancing. Surviving advance for us. Nope. Another team with a whole bunch of pre-snap penalties. The Jets and then a missed kick at the end. And so that was a kick of the balls to you. Right. Greg zerlin. Greg the leg. 51 yards. Well, that's a chip shot for him. Nope. Wide. I don't know. This league, I have no understanding what's going on. Shea said that last week. He goes, "Honey, I just don't know anymore." It's just so ridiculous. But you know what? We got to get back on the horse again, Shea. That's all you can do. You just power through. Jeez. And understand water will eventually find its level. And these things will balance themselves out. It's crazy. It's unbelievable. Yeah. All right. Let's get started with shot or no shot. We knew that year two was going to be a big opportunity for Gervon Dexter. Bit of an unsung hero. We've talked about the punter. We've talked about Caleb. We've talked about Waldron. Haven't talked a lot about Gervon Dexter. So far this year, he's delivered on the year two leap. Entered yesterday, top six in pass rush win rate among defensive tackles per ESPN, exited yesterday with his third sack in four games and two quarterback hits on Matthew Stafford. Shot or no shot. Gervon Dexter has arrived. Oh, that's a shot. Absolute shot. Three sacks on the season as you set and the hits and the pressures and the passion that he's playing with. And he talked about how hard he worked in the offseason. He called it marathon training and he wanted to trade like a skill position player even though he weighs 300 pounds. Dude, that guy is ripped. He's in amazing shape. Shows you when you commit to a program and you, nothing gets in your way. You could do incredible things. Yeah, all summer we were trying to figure out who else can get to the quarterback besides Montez Sweatt. Yep. Because there was always question marks about, well, we like Billings, but can he get it done? The market's Walker solid veteran on the other side. Pretty good. Gervon Dexter, we always put Dexter and Pickens in the same category because of the same draft, right? So we're just like, okay, so who's going to be able to emerge? Dexter's been that guy. It's a, it's a pleasant surprise. Correct. Like Taylor early in the season. It was just a pleasant surprise. Someone's got to get to the quarterback. And so Dexter, what he's been able to do has been very solid. I like it. And by the way, shout out Shane Norling. Jared versus a monster. He was my draft crush, man. I love that kid. Wow. Awesome. Wow, does he all over the field? He gets after our offensive lineman. Again, we don't have whoever. Jason Kelsey or Lane Johnson or any of those dudes on our offense. Holy cow, that guy's almost unblockable. Yeah. Phenomenal. Shane. All right. DJ Moore said after the game, Shane Waldron was doing a much better job of holding players accountable this week, openly calling out players who weren't doing their job in the first half of the game. We know last week, DJ Moore, Kayla Williams and Mercedes Lewis met with Waldron telling him he needed to coach them harder. Apparently, he took that message to heart, shot or no shot. The Bears offensive leaders meeting with Waldron might have saved the season. That's a shot. Absolutely. Because when I saw we talked about this earlier with Doug Kramer lined up at fullback and three tight ends, a week ago, we're running a speed option that lost 12 yards. We're blocking with DeAndre Carter at the goal line. Like, what are we doing? This was how you play Smash Mouth Football and if they stop you, God bless them. They didn't. It is a shot. It is saving the season because when you have players that want to be coached, that's a good thing because that could be a mutiny too, Shane. We say to go the other way, like whatever coach says, coach is coaching us light. So that means we're going to play light no matter how much money we make. Coach says this. We're just doing because we heard this already in the season. We already heard this. Was this not Kevin Jenkins? Who was that offensive lineman that said we're just doing with the coach told us it was Kevin. Kevin Jenkins, right? Okay. It has to be just more than that. It has to be more than surface level. However, I will ask you this question, sir. So you're a coach and obviously as a player, I want to be able to be at my maximum. I want to be the best that I can be, but I feel like you as a coach is not getting the job done. Like, you are not coaching me hard enough. How do you take that? Because I know that you're in the film room and you're busting your ass as a coach. You're working hard. I know you cap. You're not going to leave any stone unturned. You're going to look for every angle. That's who you are. You still can get, if you said to me, you're my player, coach, can I see you in your office? I've always believed this philosophy. You shout praise. You whisper criticism. You don't embarrass somebody in front of you. I'm not talking about in game or on the practice. I'm talking about, we're going to have a talk. You bring them in your office. Coach, I got to talk to you. I agree with you. We got to do this better. But here's where you got to be better. You've got a coach harder. We can't be running speed options at the goal line. You're getting too cute and I'm giving you my, from the heart, what the guys are feeling. And I'm bringing that to you as a team leader. You've got to be better in this area. I like that. I think that that's a healthy dialogue. I do. Communication is the key to anything. How about the coaching at IU? How does he take that? I was younger. I'm asking. At 24, at 25, that guy. Oh, God. Right. Get up. I remember getting yelled at on the bench by our head, coach. Would you stop? Sorry. I just wonder what, with 25 year old cap, thanks to that. Can we bring you your answer? Right. I bring you years of perspective. Yeah, but that guy, though, how would he take us? These are young guys, coaches, I mean, Walden's still a young guy. He is. And clearly, he's taking it hard. I just want to know how you would handle it in your situation, because I'm thinking while, you know, wild hair cap, I'm not taking it. Hey, I'm looking at film every day to try to make you better. You're coming in here to criticize me. Get out. Take that. And that's why I was so wildly immature that I would get yelled at. So Waldron did a really good job listening to veteran leaders like Mercedes Lewis and DJ Moore, and his quarterback, and Cole Comette, I think those were the four guys that were in there. He did a really good job, and he obviously adjusted, and it worked. It's interesting. It was super cool. Can we do something? Can we do a skit, uh, G Moore of 25 year old cap in that situation? See how that works. Thank you. Wow. I worked in every day to make you better. You criticize me. I think you're 19. The tenure should be with him, honey, young Avery Zetterman, leaving leading a contingent. Oh, God. To call out Kaplan. I like that. I'd like to see how cap battles that you're 10. Get out. All right, I know we just want to talk about going one and oh this next week, but I'm going to make you look ahead a little bit because the bears are about to hit a very comfortable spot in their schedule. The bears next five opponents hoodie are a combined six and 14 on the season, and one of those five teams is responsible for three of those wins. After that, the divisional game start shot or no shot. The bears can go four and one in these next five games. Panthers jags at commanders at Cardinals. Panthers jags by commanders Cardinals, and then Patriots and then Patriots and Patriots. Four and one. That's a no shot. The cardinal game is just going to be a weird one. I think that's going to be a lot of bears fans there. Oh, no question. It's going to be like I just the commander game is all of a sudden very interesting. Yeah. It wasn't when the season started, but boy, that's quite the matchup on CBS on the 27th. That'll be a hell of a game. Oh boy. Yeah. It's like it's the homecoming for Kayla going back to the district and then how well the commanders are played as of late. The conversation about the two young quarterbacks in the same draft, all that all that hello blue. That's an interesting game now. You know what it is? It's a passing of the torch game hoodie where Jaden Daniels will hand off the Oroy to Kayla Williams. Oh, wow. That'd be offensive rookie of the year. Four and one over the next five. I don't know. I just want to get to one and all this week answers question though. It's a shot or no shot. They'll go four and one. The next five. I say no. I'll pass. Come on. You can't pass shot or no shot cap. The Panthers are awful. The Jags will Doug Peterson be coaching that game. Who knows? Yes, he will. Commanders will do what you want. It's coin flip. Arizona, they look dreadful. Don't do that coin flip now with the candidate. Hang on now. But I'm sorry. Cody. I'm selling four and one. Okay. Cardinals look dreadful and the Patriots forget about it. They're the worst team in football. I'll say it's a shot, but again, I want to get to want to know this week. That's all I care about. Get better tomorrow with your therapies. Go back to work. Get ready for Sunday, starting Wednesday and get to want to know. I go one play at a time mentality. And life or just again, just the bears because that's not in life. That's how I live in life. One day at a time, man. Okay. That's it. Fine show. I have indie apples, by the way. Great CBS show. One day at a time. I would say that... Thanks, Schneider. It is... He was Schneider. He always wanted to get on body Franklin, but they just never had. There we go. How does that guy do that? I don't mean the show. How does Jay Moore do that? There's no script for this show. We just go... How does he get one day at a time music within like eight seconds if you say it anyway they want to you? Okay. Did you tell him to have that ready? No. Because you didn't plan on bringing that up? No. It's just excellence, Cap. Jay Moore, that's just dollar man. You know what they say about the greats, Cap? You don't have to get ready. Speed ready. You are ready. You should never be surprised at the excellence of one Jay Moore. I'm never surprised, but then... Wow. You were literally surprised right now. Like when I think about it, I'm like, "Well, that is Jay Moore." But that's amazing. One day at a time. That's it. Find show on CBS. Enjoy the video. This is it. That's it. Straight ahead and rest assured. Valerie Bertinelli in that show. She was. Loved her. That's the only address at the time. Here is... So was I. You were not. You were not. You were an old grizzled man. 78? 78. I was 18 years old. 79? I was 19. Still a little bit shaky there, R. Kelly. We turn now to... Oh my gosh. We turn now to Jay Moore. R. Kelly. [laughter] Whew. There he was. Wow. Jay Moore, outside of the Chevy Blazer, just waiting for Bertinelli to get off. You were there. Ow! Ah. In the closet. She was awesome. What are you doing? Here is Shea Norley now, as we finish up Shotter No Shot. And yesterday on Fox during the Bucks Eagles game, Tom Brady told the story of his recruitment to Tampa Bay. I don't want to always think it's just about the money, but you were showing this this last night. I thought it was so cool. It's how you made your choice. So I brought these... I saw them at the house and I said, "You know, I'm bringing these to ShowKB and there was a lot of reasons to choose Tampa and I made about 18 criteria why." And there was things all the way from a salary, obviously, to the weather, to the facilities, to the... How great the players were. And ultimately, Chicago was a team and I've never told that story before. They were very stealth in their recruitment. I was seriously considering. But in the end, it came down to Tampa and it was close to my son Jack. I love Bruce Arians and the role that he played in offense, and ultimately the great players like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin's that I'm still out there watching today. Wait a minute. Tom Brady almost chose the Bears. Shotter No Shot. If Tom Brady had come to Chicago, he'd have one less ring. That's a shot. That's a shot. Bruce Arians is not Maggie. Yes. No question. Was Gronk coming to ask Gronk on the Fox pregame? Hey, Tom said, "I almost picked the Bears. Would you have gone to Chicago with him?" He's like, "He was going to Tampa." Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. That's Ken Griffey as a white Sox. Yes. That's the end. Yes. There's no question. Yes. Yeah. He would have been a bomb at the end. No offensive line. No way. But also, by the way, Ryan Pols, hats off. You quietly try to get Tom Brady. No. Ryan Pace. Ryan Pace, rather. Yes. Ryan Pace. Yes. Very good. Stealth. Why don't you give him a call? Let's see if he can get more intel on that. I did. And? Oh. They were in there. They were in there. They just weren't getting him. His kid being in Florida was a big thing. You find out how close? They were there and they were the clear number two, but he was going to Tampa. Giselle wasn't moving up here. Sorry. Okay. Just want to make sure that you're aggregated properly. Give a cap of reporting. That's what you just did. Thank you. I just am giving you some background intel. Intel. They work it. It's out there on Twitter now. Thank you. All right. Matt Ehren Flus, the head coach for the Greenburg Con aggregate. He's actually alive. So different. I was going to say the ghost of Greenberg, yes. Rest in peace. Matt Ehren Flus will join us coming up next on the Captain Jhood Morning Show. Keep hope alive. Welcome back to Captain Jhood on Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. It's a Captain Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Hope that you're going to have a great Monday and a great week. We're going to hear from Matt Ehren Flus, the head coach for the Bears momentarily. We're going to hear from Lance Briggs as well coming up at 935 right here on Captain Jhood. Yeah, so interesting cap about Tom Brady. What if you went to the Chicago Bears? What about Baker Mayfield? I think that all of us as a show respects Baker Mayfield for pulling the nose up on his career and that what he was as a Brown is that necessarily how we define him. But he did make some comments that, yeah, he's in there and Brady's not there. And we'll get to that momentarily because I thought that Baker's comments kind of gave a little spark to Tom Brady kind of looked inside his soul a little bit. Boy. Boy, he was intense Brady. He was hit. Yeah. Just hit. Now it's time to hear from the head coach for the Chicago Bears, Matt Ehren Flus. Matt Ehren Flus. Matt Ehren Flus. Hey, cool chop the Chicago Bears. It was really good. I mean, there was a lot of good situations that we had breaking down the Bears and the latest updates all season. All season. You know, there's some really good players on both sides. Can that person function with that match? Matt Ehren Flus with Captain Jaywood on ESPN Chicago. It's a Captain Jaywood morning show on ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Also on YouTube, youtube.com. Look for ESPN Chicago. Time to talk to the coach. I'm a hot line. The car's tiring on a hot line. Rattle, rattle, thunder, clatter, boom, boom, boom. Don't worry, call the correct slam. Good morning, coach. How are you? Doing well. Coach after reviewing the film, what's up most about the win against the Rams yesterday? Yeah, I was just really pleased with the complimentary football that we displayed at the end of the half and also the end of the game. I thought that was really good to see the guys come together on all phases and offense, defense and, you know, and kicking. So it was really good. You know, that was the challenge that we had to have during that game, to win that game. So the guys did it and made some plays at the end of the field deal. Matt, let's talk about the leadership committee, offensive side that met with Shane Waldron this week and we heard stuff going into the game and then after the game. So going into the game, Mercedes Lewis and others said, coach, you got to coach is harder. You got to hold us to a higher standard and here's some things we think we need to do. A little more downhill running with our backs, smash people in the mouth. And then after the game, DJ Moore said, oh, yeah, he held us much more accountable. He was getting after us for pre-sap penalties or miss blocks or whatever the case may be. You're there every day. Please take us inside those meetings and the fallout from them. And then the result. Yeah, just really about communication, you know, and that's really what it is. We're always trying to improve that. We're always trying to get better, you know, so this week's no different, you know, last week was, you know, obviously it was in the public eye a little bit, but we're always looking to get better and we're always looking to improve our communication with coaches, with players, and amongst each other just to improve the product on the field. And, you know, if it's, we've been saying it for the last couple of weeks, we want to run the ball better and come up with some good solutions to be able to do that. And again, we saw the fruits of our labor this last week. Camp, I think that made us all feel good to be able to see the bears run the football effectively. We've been talking about, Coach, we've been talking about it. Trying to find a way to run the football in 131 yards on the ground. That works, right? Oh, Coach, hoodie and I were talking about when you went to three tight ends down at the goal line and I'm like, wait a minute, that's Doug Kramer back there. I like that type of football because it may not be fancy, but good luck to you trying to stop it. God bless you, where did that come up with? Did you have that camp? Was that put in this week? Where did that germinate from? Yeah, we've had that personnel in all the way in camp. You know, we had a couple of plays in there and we added a few more, but that's just our goal line package and the guys did a good job executing there and dubbed it a nice shot of, you know, doing his job too. And I thought the, you know, obviously, Rochon does a really good job of running downhill on those. And we had the right guy doing it. So it was really about what we were doing and who was doing it and the guys did a nice job of execute. Coach, we don't talk enough about the Bears defense. I call this like the Jekyllon Brisker game because he's just all over the field just making plays. What did you like most about what the Bears did defensively? Because there's so many check marks we say that went right and getting interceptions and flipping the field. All these things really worked out in your favor in a lot of ways. Yeah, the defense did a nice job of holding, you know, they had some drives, you know, they had some explosive plays, but they did a nice job of holding in the red zone and getting those takeaways and, you know, timely takeaways and really are punting that a wonderful job at the end of the game. You know, I've put them in pin in that sixty-six yarder to the LA-8 and then he had the one where we, you know, made them use all their timeouts and expire everything out there and they end up having, you know, about a minute to go with no timeouts. But that was a put in pin also to the LA-8. So the guys did a really good job there executing, you know, as a defense and special teams and really good interception at the end by Brisker. Coach, we'll get to Caleb in a minute, but you talked about that punt. What was the rationale? Is that a call from upstairs? Is that a Richard Hightower call? Or is that a your call to take a timeout on the last punt rather than taking the delay a game to let the clock run down and then saving the time out of God forbid they scored out a fluke. You would need that. Yeah. So we took it all the way down to one second. So the time was the time, you know, we took it right there because they can decline that and they more likely were going to and we like exactly where that positioning is right at the forty-five. He likes to hit it from there and he can hit it from a lot of places, but that's a sweet spot for him and he didn't make a shot of a pin in it down there. Matt, he refuses the head coach for the Chicago Bears. He joins us after every Bears game on the cap and Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000 and on the ESPN Chicago app. Coach, we talked also earlier that, you know, you have your set of goals that you have for the football team. It was just driving me crazy seeing the amount of penalties, you know, going backwards behind the sticks cap. We talked about it. You know, first and twenty-five. It's a fall start. It just can't it just can't happen. So coach, as you look at that, I know you want to clean it up. How do you address that here with the team? Yeah, it's got it'll have to get cleaned up. You know, you saw it was, you know, we had a fall start. It was, you know, first and fifteen, you know, it puts you behind, you know, we just got to make sure we clean those things up and looking at those, you know, and some of them are, you know, all the pre snap penalties that we got to make sure we clean those things up. And those are those are all controllable. You know, those are things you can control and we have to do a really good job of correcting that and making that go away in the future because again, you're going to have a couple of them here and there, but we got to make sure that we don't, you got to get it cleaned up for sure. Matt, who do you that we're talking about Caleb? We both agree that last week he threw for three sixty three. This week he didn't throw for half of that, but I thought it was his best game so far this season. The throat to DJ Moore for the touchdown. We went back and watched it on an all twenty two cut and I mean he has like two inches to fit the ball in there and it's a dart and DJ does a great job getting his feet down. The throw to call come at up the middle of first down. That's another dart over a linebacker with a really good catch. Your thoughts on his game yesterday. Yeah, I was really pleased with it. You know, it's raining was one oh six. You know, that's the highest rating of the year and that's really about being efficient. You know, he was efficient, you know, didn't put the ball in hard his way. You know, the number one thing that quarterback has to do is protect the football and he did that. You know, we did, you know, I know he had one sax fumble, but, you know, prior did a wonderful job of getting back on that ball. We end up getting a sax fumble right after that. So that was a big part of the game too. But a nice clean play by the quarterback for sure. Coach, what did you hear about Kevin Jenkins after the game as far as his status? Yeah, I'll get an update on that. I know after the game, it was just a bruised rib, so we'll see where that is. I'll get an update from our trainer today, Andre, and we'll go from there. What's more accurate, Taylor being able to kick the ball the way he does or UT to green on the golf course? Yeah. What was the last part? You to go and tee to green on the golf course or tear or Taylor being accurate as a punter. Oh, what? Taking a hundred percent. You know, I used to have a pretty good handicap when I was a linebacker coach and that one, it got worse when I became a defensive coordinator. It's getting worse when I'm a head coach, so it's not, it's not good, not green anymore. So we go to Taylor, by the way, Kevin, if we want to get a tee to green, correct, Taylor was just with the leg. Scotty Sheffler, as they call him up in the fourth. Exactly. I got to ask you about DJ Moore, the touchdown pass that did not connect down to right sideline. DJ has said after the game that he goes, that's on me, not on Caleb. I slowed down there and that is a mistake by me. It seemed like the ball might have been a little too hard and a little too flat after watching the tape. What did you see? Well, I think it's really just about the chemistry. You know, you guys got to keep building that chemistry, you know, with the route discipline and the route, you know, exactly be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there, but really being, you know, in conjunction together with all the receivers. And again, that's a process that we're going through, you know, so again, you get different coverage contours, different coverages, different players you're playing against, and then you're got the route trees that we run and that's just those guys walking together. And those guys will get, you know, obviously they've made a couple of great connections yesterday. And again, that's going to be more consistent as time goes on right there. So those guys will work to get that done. Coach, we say this, Captain, I talk about this all the time about in sports. It's always good to have a veteran and an old head in there. I know that every roster position and every roster spot is precious. However, to have the kind of veteran leadership you have in there with Lewis and then you're giving him the game ball yesterday, what does he mean to your ball club to have that kind of experience in the room? It's, you can't measure it, you really can't, it's so impactful and the way that the impact he has on all the players and all the coaches, just presence, his wisdom from being in different places and, you know, stuff he can glean and really pull back from and lean on his experiences to really give us a little nugget here and there, he's outstanding that way. It's not only his conversation or his talks he has in front of the team sometimes, but his private conversations that he has with coaches, players throughout the whole building, his leadership is outstanding. Coach, you've got the Panthers next and they have had their ups and downs, but it's Andy Dalton, not Bryce Young, so much more of a calming veteran presence back there. Can you give us something on the challenge that you're facing this week when you try? All you can do is be one and all this week, but it's a one and all you've got to get. Yeah, it's really about us, you know, we're going to look at the team, we've already looked at it as coaches, I've already met with the coordinators and we're going to do a good job of just cleaning things up that we have to clean up and focus on ourselves and our execution and try to improve every single week. And that's been our charge here in the first part of the season where I get better every single week and this is no different. Coach, as always, we appreciate the time, we'll talk to you next week. Okay, thank you. Have a good day. Matt Eberflus. On the car wrecks, tiring on a hop. Rattled, rattled, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. Don't worry, call the correct snare. Cap and Jay Hood, week day morning, seven to ten. Right. If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESP and Chicago app. And Jay Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports, ESP and Chicago. It's a Cap and Jay good morning show on ESP and 1000 and streaming on the ESP and Chicago app. We will hear from Lance Briggs coming up in an hour from now as we talk more bears here on this very victory Monday as it bears to feed the Rams by the score of 24 to 18 baby. By the way, the Packers are saying now that Christian Watson has suffered a high ankle sprain. It could be sideline. Oh, oh, how's that going for you up there? Ben Burrus, the ESP and Milwaukee. I don't want to be mean, but has anybody shocked Christian Watson's heart? No. This is his career. Like, if you told me that like a high ankle sprain is different than he always has a hamstring. Didn't he have in the last two years? Yeah, he leveled out his legs. Did you hear about that? He was like strengthening his right leg because they said it was weaker or like not level in pace with his other leg and it was causing knee problems and hamstring issues. So like if he had another hamstring, I'd be like, okay, this guy's chronically injured. That's more acute. An ankle sprain? High ankle sprain? Good. Jordan Love was not good yesterday. Now again, he's coming back from a knee injury. I get it. But it's rust. Holy cow, those Vikings, man. Viking Scott might be right. Viking Scott's got to enjoy the ride, man, because he's got a good coach and a good team. This all stems from Albert Prayer, by the way, give back to the Bears in just a moment. Just want to just side bar this brought to you by a kid law. Three, one, two, six million for the great heart ankle. It's not my ball. As we take a look at the NFC North, the Vikings are four. You know, the lines two and one and the Packers and Bears are both two and two. It stems back to Albert Prayer. When we asked him to kind of preview the North and we said, you know, if the Bears get to the playoffs, then who takes a step back? He wasn't fast to tell us that it was going to be the Minnesota Vikings. He actually made a case if you call. He said they're a way better team than you guys realize. They got good people up front on both sides of the ball. And he said, and I think Sam Darnell Lunder, Kevin O'Connell, will flourish. He's been right. And that put a pause on the show. We went what? We thought they'd be like five and 12, four and 13. No. Think about that. That's why this is important. That's why every game is important. That's why every game is precious. You know, I had them pegged at nine and eight when we made our final predictions because I just knew ups and downs, Waldron Williams, Hebrew flus, all of that. That was just the witch's brood that I came up with say, hey, man, it's not going to be perfect. There's going to be ups and downs, but this team's going to find this way to the playoffs because that's enough. There are all this non playoff nonsense, three wins, seven wins. This team will find its way to shoehorn themselves into the playoffs. And so two and two is exactly kind of where I had them going through the schedule cap, but just the Colts loss is just the one that's just I had them three and one. I did not think they'd lose the Colts game. Yeah. Did not. That's the thing that's just the odd one. But here you are, Cap, where you're getting better from Sunday. And as we talked to Hebrew flus about, it's still not a finished product. I still am disappointed in some of the penalties because Caleb Williams needs a lot more reps to be in the groove that he wants to be in, but also the penalties, they don't help. You know, Ricky quarterback, you're always behind the sticks. It's always first in 15 or if this has to get better. Now as a thing, as we go along the season, all of us as Bears fans know that there's a problem with the offensive line, you just hope that they can be able to come together somewhat for this young man is not going to be perfect. And if you're still going to be against better teams, what do you think the offensive line is going to look like? Move in chair and move the deck chairs around the Titanic. And if if Kevin is out, I mean, he didn't finish the game yesterday, it was ruled out. It was questionable to return and ruled out. If he can't play, you better go find somebody, man, whether I don't care who that is. Have to. Have to. Have to. Nate Davis. Again, that's starting yesterday. Yep, that I like seeing that. That's a level of accountability, but but then what happened? Well, he had to come in. Got no joy. Two weeks in a row with this, though, right? You're trying to send a message and Nate, you're not going to play today, right? You're not going to play, right? Okay, coach. Injury. Get back in there. Damn. Right. Every time cap. But I would say if loose, he'll never ask us if he ever said any tips for me. Yeah, coach, when you bench Nate Davis, you've already told him he's not starting. So it's not like you're doing something behind his back going to the media. You should not tell the media, well, he's got a groin. So we're starting that prior because as soon as we had an injury a week ago, he went right into the game. So the groin couldn't have been that bad. Just say, look, we're not pleased with how Nate's played. And he's a better player than that. And we demand that he plays at a higher level. We're starting that prior this week and we'll see how Nate develops. That's it. You throw him under the bus. You did not embarrass him. You simply stated a fact. Yeah, it's been good enough, period. That's how I would handle it. Two weeks in a row. But he has, but again, pressed into service. Right. What are you going to do? Tell us your story. You may have to go. That tells a story, cap. Yeah. So not a lot of DeAndre Carter in the passing game. As you've seen in the past, that again is a sea change from what Waldron was doing in the past few weeks. Correct. Again, when Caleb goes through his progressions, he looks and goes, well, that guy's not open it. There's Tommy Waddle. Bam. Hit Tommy Waddle with 13 wing jet. DeAndre Carter is a security blanket type guy. He's not a game breaker. He's got good speed. We didn't see much of Rome yesterday. Did not. But we also ran the football more effectively, which is the key to the victory. How many targets for Joe Everett yesterday, cap? Zippo. Zip. Oh. See. He carries for Khalil Herbert. Zero. Zero. Yep. Bayless Jones active yesterday. I don't think he was. I don't believe so. Shea. Was he active? I never even looked at it. I will double check. I never even looked at those. I was too locked in getting ready for the game and going through my notes and I just asked these questions because cap, that's when you go through a season. Shea, go ahead. Bayless was an active. He's an active. Again. Yeah. Say, I only ask these questions because that's the ebb and flow of a season. And this is also for the offensive coordinator, Waldron's new cap. You have been with them since the spring and the summer through the draft and all that. It doesn't mean that you know exactly what your personnel can do on these, on the whole new different playbook. You don't know everything. You have a notion, but you don't know everything. So I just think that's a whole thing where Waldron's just riding the crest with the rest of the team saying, what if I push this button, what's going to happen? If I push this button, it's going to happen. Well, if I push, that's what's going on right now until he gets a rhythm with his players. Correct. We complained about how Cole Comet should have the ball more and that Everett is getting into it. Well, he was familiar with Everett. He worked with Everett. Correct. It's not working with Everett and look at Cole Comet now, blocking and being able to catch key catches. See, we knew that Waldron didn't know that. But like you think he'd know as a coach, right, because of all the film, but we know as fans that Cole Comet given the opportunity can be a game breaker for you, a game changer for you. Yeah, I'm a big fit. A, the guy, B, the leadership, C, the talent, he a block, he'll give you everything he's got that dude, everything he's got. That's what's so frustrating about a week ago. And I know everything you evolve, you learn. So the mistake you make in whatever walk of life last week, hopefully you learned from to be better this week. That's all. But holy bleep, Khalil Herbert getting the ball three straight plays and then a speed option. One day you want to let that go. I don't know when it's hard because you should have beat that team, but you got to you got to turn the page though. Now you can't you can't get that win back. I agree. You're going to have to turn the page. Agreed. You're right. I'm wrong. I get it. It's just so frustrating. Smash people in the mouth. Let's go. But that's how you learn, Cap. True. Here's the thing to you. Eber Flus knew it. Caleb knew it. There's a little bit. The door was a jar. If you notice from both of these guys, Caleb yesterday, you were flus today. They were all aware of what was being said about them through the press. No question. I mean, Caleb, I mean, you and Caleb's talking about a tough week and all that and just trying to get through it. Eber Flus is the same thing. They're all aware of what was being said. It starts with this show and then it just permeates throughout the week for him for Eber Flus. I'm sure. Correct. We're asking a lot of questions about Shane, right? A lot of questions about Shane, right? And I'm sure that after before or after our conversation last week, I'm sure that he talked to Waldron about we got to open holes for our running game, right? We're running straight ahead. Stop with all this stretch stuff, speed options and this and that. I get it. But that's the adjustment. And I also told you last week that for a quote unquote offensive geniuses, yeah, we won the game, but I don't get a chance to use the stuff I'm trying. Right. It's like, yeah, we won. These offensive coordinators have to let you know how creative and smart they are. No. Yeah. I mean, we had all this stuff that we, the install and we ran the ball. Yeah. Hooray. We won next week. Did you win or did you lose? That's all I care about, man. We put Swift in the, in the passing game, the running game, it had to stuff all set up for a Dunes A and more. Sorry, guys. Yeah. Next week. I had four big time deep throws for Caleb and we didn't get too bad. Yeah. Too bad. We ran the ball. Yes. I'm sure, Shane, the rolling of the odds of Waldron because these guys want to put the air. Hey, can I just tell you, I bet you Waldron was like 52 times in the air. Oh, that's good. Yeah. Oh, God. We just hit a couple. We hit a couple of those boy. By the way, waddle with another lucid great point that now it brought to you by Tom waddle. Okay. He said. The sponsor. When, when Keenan Allen goes to the game and comes back, lesti Andre Carter. That's not a bad thing. Hmm. See? The lucid point, Tommy. See? Lucid, as you've been in a long time. Just the point is that you adjust from week to week personnel wise. Who can you trust? Who can't you trust? Correct. Jay Moore. You know, this Waldron wasn't shaky. He was not. His hand was pretty solid. Hairless. Very solid. Stern. Game wasn't in prime time. Well, that, that very well could be the case also. This is very interesting. I just, I like to see a week to week how he's able to get this done. And again, from the Rams standpoint, not very good. They know we were missing players and not very good in the red zone, the hats off to the bears. Yes. You build on this and to see what happens against Carolina. And by the way, and you know, I love Sean McVay. Like if you said, wow, all 32 head coaches are free ages. You get anywhere you want Sean McVay would be on my shortlist. Love that dude. Yep. Mark Sanchez, who I don't think is very good. He's okay as an analyst. He's okay. I think great Mark Sanchez even said on one of the plays where they hit Stafford. What are you doing trying to block Montes sweat with a rookie wide receiver and a tight end? What are you doing? It's a great observation. Bam. Ball out. Great observation. Yes. I don't know if you know this and not sure. We had two DJs in the booth yesterday, Sanchez and Amin, very good with the ones and twos in the, in the parties. They both can DJ. Very interesting. Adam Amin is so good, so good. Called the, uh, Doug Kramer, a mini fridge. Mm hmm. Dude, that was awesome line. He knows. No, he felt good. Even though he's got to be right down the middle, being in Chicago, calling the Bears game. Yeah. I know he felt good about that. Along with former Bears quarterback Mark Sanchez, we will go around the NFL. Did you take a snap? I don't know. It's coming up next on Kappa Ghood. You're listening to Captain Jhood. Follow the show on Instagram at the Catman and at IGJhood. This is ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. It both sucks. It sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is from. But there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts to come. And it won. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's that so you're looking for all of these things here? Around the NFL. Here's Shane Norling. Shane? All right. Let's get started. Hootie with Over Reaction Monday. Ah, yes. Hootie, I'm afraid I picked the wrong long shot to win the NFC East. It won't be the New York Football Giants. It will be the Washington commanders. Oh, wow. Given up on the Giants already, OK? Dallas still looks like Darren Shambles trouble moving the football and finishing drives on the road New York Thursday night football short week in New York. One in three. Your odds are real short. Philly. Forget it. I mean, Philly. Nick Sirianni. I'm surprised they didn't leave him attached to a dock somewhere in Tampa Bay. Wait for the next hurricane and blow him away. He's not your problem anymore. Shout out to Helene. Darren. They're awful, Philly. Did you see Darius Slay on social media yesterday talking about his career pass breakups and his career interceptions and all that he had to delete the tweet. And then he made his account private because Eagles fans were being so horrible to him, but he's bathing like a clown. Now, Cap, that's a two and two ball club, Eagles. That divisions a disaster. I think the commanders are going to win it. They have the game in hand on everybody. They do. They demolish the Cardinals on the road. They did. Holy smokes. I'm not convinced they're going to win it. I still think the Cowboys will at the end, but we'll see how it was. Yeah. And offense is bad. I don't know what it's what's wrong with it. Maybe Tyron Smith was the straw that stirred the drink in Dallas, but man, a defense like to have a word. The run defense likes to have a word on the help Devin Singletarian check boy, if you're the Giants, you could that's right, but hoodie, that's where I like the Giants on fire. Singletarian run for a hundred yards the previous week. You can't run on the Cowboys. You got problems. Giants not very good. Okay. And one is what? Pack after this. The jet do. Oh, God. Shane, like that's a worse way worse loss. This over reaction, hoodie, I hope I'm putting the snorling stink on this team because I hate them. The Vikings, they're going to play in the NFC title game. This is unbelievable. Sam Darnold leads the NFL and touchdowns and impasse rating. You're undefeated. The defense isn't incredible. I don't want to hear about what the Packers did in the second half yesterday. You go 28, nothing down, not a lot you do after matters to me, especially when Jordan love through three picks early and couldn't get the final score that he needed. I'm good. The Vikings are unreal. I don't know how they're doing this, but they're doing it. So it's what date is it today is the 30th and we're got them in the NFC title game already. It's called over reactions. That's the point. And I hope I put the stink on them. Yes. They're not going to the NFC title game. I hope not. Vikings go to the NFC title game. That means the Bears are not going to be the playoffs. I don't know. Green Bay could finish last. I had division. I don't know that. I don't either. I don't know that love gets healthy. It was fine when he was healthy, right? Yeah. Okay. Lions are the lions in the bear. Tough. It's a hell of a division. I'll take Caleb Williams right now for the rest of his career over Jordan love. Right now. Okay. Today. And you know, I think Jordan loves a good player. Yeah. I said you a year and more go. Pretty good kid. He is. He's a good player. He's obviously being paid. I'll take Caleb right now today and bet on his career versus Jordan love. I love. I love the overreaction of the Vikings winning the NFC. That would be something. He's got the Vikings winning the NFC. He's got our evening playing in the NFC title game. He's got the commanders already winning the NFC East. This is an overreaction Monday. This is Shea Stone Monday. This is outstanding. It was called overreaction. The point is to be outlandish. That's the point. That's the point of it. Yeah. You know, I understand that. Right? I know you do. I'm trying to explain it to Kaplan. Wow. Cap. How about this one? This one might not be lunacy. The Steelers are going to miss the playoffs. Here's their final six games at sincey verse Cleveland at Eagles at Ravens chiefs and then bangles 10 the year. That's a shot that they'll miss the playoffs. Always against the brother. Every single year. Who? Every year. Who? Tomlin? Yes. Every year. I love Tomlin. I'd hire him. But every year since we were together, he's not going to make it. This is the year. This is the brother. Nine and eight. They sneak in. You didn't expect three and oh, did you? Although they're probably going to finish second net. Awful division. Love the brother next to you. By the way, I got an idea. Next time the Bears play the Raiders, we should just take listeners to Vegas to watch the Bears play. Oh, he has pink Cleveland did that back though. You sent me the video of our teammate, Tony Rizzo, addressing the plane with the stewardess's phone. Yes. Hey, Rizz, how'd that trip go get airline attended, by the way. I'm telling you Cleveland. You were 1960 on the pro left call there. Right in the dress. That's not how you do it today, Cap. Airline attended. No, flight attended. Well, certainly the hell is that stewardess about that? It's not stewardess. Take that. Cap's still leaving the address of his hotel on a card and handed it to her on his way off the plane. Yeah, this guy's correcting me and he's and he's got a cigarette and a martini with a newspaper with his black tie in his suit and his little hat. Keep me up, honey. Take that. Hey, sweetheart. How about an old fashioned over here? Nice gams. How do we get the rits? I'm looking up the word stewardess. Oh, come on. All right. Let's go. Bears talk two minutes.
