That's right. Another haul and oats victory Monday on Grant and Danny was a victory Tuesday six days ago, because, you know, when the commanders plan prime time. They deliver their best efforts, but they stayed out West. They stayed on the road. They made it one road trip, and then they went straight to Phoenix to handle their business against the Cardinals. And today, as we convene on Grant and Danny here on the fan, your Washington commanders at three and one are alone in first place in the NFC East. Danny will be in in just a little bit. He had an ill timed doctor's appointment in the afternoon. He wanted to get here to celebrate with us. He will be here in short order. Fear not. But the commanders 42 points, another offensive onslaught, another clinical and textbook day for Cliff Kingsbury, Jaden Daniels, and this now vaunted offense destroyed the Arizona Cardinals as road dogs. They went to Arizona. They leave not only winners, but with sideline laughter, jocularity in the fourth quarter, spin your hat around like your head coach Dan Quinn because you're no longer playing in the game starters. Dominance. And for the second time in one short week here, Monday into a Sunday, the commanders were the talk of the NFL when their game had ended. They've got a quarterback right now that everybody loves in Jaden Daniels, the talk of the league, the front runner for rookie of the year offensively. Hey, you're hearing people around town suggest, should we start talking about the MVP award for Jaden Daniels. Settle down just a little bit, but let's enjoy ourselves right here and right now 42 to 14 Cleveland Browns up next at the artist formerly known as FedEx field going out to land over Maryland for what should be a chance for Washington to get to four and one now. They're favored in the game. And for what will really decide once and for all kind of where I'm going to be with this team. I am uber encouraged. I sit here today thinking they're very good. I sit here today thinking the NFC East is not. I have not been impressed with the Eagles at all at any point this season. They got destroyed by the Bucks and Tampa just like Washington did. I don't think the Cowboys are that good. We know the Giants aren't that good. Why can't this team with an elite offense, a quarterback playing very well. Continue to go out weekend and week out. You know, they're going to have a chance to win because in this league, when you can score and you can move the ball something we don't know anything about in DC over the years. When you have a quarterback who plays at a high level, something we're remembering what it feels like around here the last couple of weeks. You have a chance every single week and they're going to. So why can't this team continue to win? You tell me, is it because the defense isn't good enough? They were a lot better yesterday. Is it because they can't stop the run? They didn't do that yesterday either. But points don't come from the running game. The Cardinals are evidence of that 14 point scored yesterday for Arizona. By the way, Kyler Murray, I thought was awful. Just seeing ghosts holding the football, taking on pressure and contact and sacks in the pocket. I didn't think he was good at all. But give the defense some credit. So I wanted to go through some superlatives here for Washington. Some of the stats that are being thrown around just to get the party started literally and figuratively on Grant and Danny should let you know that we will be joined at five o'clock by Jay Gruden for his weekly Monday appointment on the show. And at three o'clock coming up in one hour, we're going to talk with Luke McCaffrey, the wide receiver who had a monster catch yesterday. Nice catch and run of 17 yards to set up a touchdown. He had a 40 yard catch and run on Monday one week ago today against the Bengals in Cincinnati's coming into his own third round pick was been a big part of this offense early this season. So we'll talk to McCaffrey about Daniels about Kingsbury and one of the great offenses in football right now when he joins us in a little over 55 minutes. But here's what took place yesterday. Number one, the commanders got to three and one. This is the first time Washington has been three and one through four games since 2011. Now that was a Rex Grossman led commanders team by the way. Okay, that was a known week three and one based on schedule some good fortune. I was on that beat. I remember this like it was yesterday. A couple of weeks after that. In fact, Grossman got benched for John Beck. That's how good that team was. There were three and one, but it was full goal. This feels different because when you're three and one based on quarterback play, when you're three and one with an offense that can score. When you're three and one and you've got a rookie under center who looks to be your future a little different than the journeyman veteran who's not playing that well as you're squeaking out victories. But you got to go back 13 years. This is something that should happen every couple of years. Whether you're good or not. You just, you get a schedule that's favorable. You play okay in the first month. Whether you're good or not. You stub your toe into three and one every now and then. Not here. Not where you haven't won 11 games since 1991. Not where you haven't won a playoff game in 19 years, but Washington is three and one. The commanders have scored 30 or more points in consecutive games now. They had not done that since weeks 10 and 11 in 2017. Our guest today at five o'clock, Jay Gruden was the head coach then calling plays for curco cousins. That's how long it's been since this team went back to back scoring 30 points. They get it. They're very excited. First time that Washington has scored 30 plus points in consecutive games and won both of those games since weeks 16 and 17 of 2015. When Gruden cousins in Washington clinched the division, you're going back nine years ago to find the last time the offense was able to put up points like this and wins. Oh, this one was fun. This might have been my favorite stat from yesterday in terms of what this offense is doing and how much they're cooking right now in the lab. Cliff Kingsbury, listen up. You handsome, sharp, jawed, well manicured, bearded, play calling savant. The last time Washington scored at least 38 points in consecutive games. Monday into Sunday, they did that, Bengals Cardinals. Weeks 11 and 12 of the 1991 season, one of the greatest teams of all time, one of the greatest offenses of all time on their way to a Super Bowl. There's one guy in the audience who's not standing up and cheering. What's your problem? Oh, he said he wants some Jaden Daniels superlatives. Don't worry. Audience member. I've got that. Daniels has completed at least 85% of his passes in two consecutive games. The first quarterback in NFL history to have two consecutive games with 85% or higher complete in the history of the league. I like that one. I like what they're seeing. Speaking of Daniels, 82.1 completion percentage, so far through four games, the highest in history by any quarterback since 1950 minimum of 100 attempts. And lastly, what we're seeing from Daniels historic, he's got a passer rating that's been 96 or better and a completion percentage 82 or better. He and Dak Prescott back in 2016 when he took the league by storm, the only rookie quarterbacks in NFL history to have posted those numbers in four straight games. Everything's looking up for the locals. I hope you like the team name because if they keep winning, it ain't going anywhere. Okay. They are three and one and they look legit. But yesterday to me was about their clinical offensive display again. They went nine of 12 on third down. Couple reasons for that. Number one, they stay ahead of the sticks. They have great success on first down. They're a good second down team. They run the ball really, really well. When Daniels keeps the football and scrambles, he steals a couple yards. They're often in third and two, third and four, very manageable down in distances. Nine of 12 on third down, just back breaking to a defense. They racked up 450 yards, 6.7 yards per play yesterday. They did punt. That's bad. Okay. They had not punted in two straight games. We don't believe in punting around here. We find punting to be unacceptable. We demand perfection from our team in the nation's capital. We don't believe in punting. Trustways, a holder is not a punter. One punt in three weeks now, by the way. In fact, the crazy, crazy stat on how often they've been scoring as opposed to punting. Jayden Daniels on the season has fewer incompletions than they have scoring drives. I mean, they can. I understand. They're happy. But seriously, think about that for a second. Now, that's a Daniel stat to an extent. He's been accurate. But really, that is a scheme stat. That is a Kingsbury stat. They're getting receivers open. They are making throws oftentimes very easy. And Daniel's is executing the plan. What blows me away about him is the decision making the poise, the ability to get through everything the way he needs to. But that's staggering. The way they're moving the football. We haven't seen anything like this in years and years and years around here. I don't know about you guys, but I'm on a bunch of text chains with buddies during these games. And they all basically had the same tone in the Bengals game and it carried over to the Cardinals game. The gist during the Bengals game was what is happening? What team is this? How is this happening? Is this my commander's team? Like that was kind of the gist of the text. Those were the vibes on Monday night. Yesterday, the vibes were. Oh my God. Are we good? Like people can't. They don't know what to do with their arms. They're like, wait a second. This is real, right? Is this a dream? Nobody knows what to do because we've never seen. Your boy is 36. Got a few kids. Got a mortgage. Got cars in the driveway that I pay for. They have not moved the ball like this and been in offensive juggernaut like this since I was in diapers. It doesn't happen around here. It is right now. And what's amazing is while there's going to be ebbs and flows, it'll get more complicated and more difficult to move the football. You're not always going to be ahead of the chains. The longer you do something, the more it becomes what you are and just what you do. It becomes the expectation. So last week I sat here and I told you guys, it's going to be really hard to replicate the Bengals game. And I still believe they're not going to have another one like that. But my point in saying that is you don't have games where you don't commit penalties. They did not commit a penalty offensively again until the fourth quarter. When that happens once, it's staggering. It's crazy. It doesn't make sense. You assume it's a fluke. When you do it two straight weeks, you go, well, something that they're doing is obviously helping them in that regard. Maybe it's somewhat sustainable that they just don't commit penalties. Well, they haven't turned the ball over all year. After week two, we're saying they're probably going to go on the road now, tough environment, prime time, turn the ball over. They didn't do it. Now, they did have one turnover yesterday. Jaden Daniels threw his first pick. I don't care at all. I liked him throwing that pick, if we're being honest, because he's pushing the ball down the field into a small window and throwing to a guy that wasn't already open, clapping for the football. That's what the league's about. You're going to have to make those throws. So you make that throw, you see what happens. It works or it doesn't. You recalibrate, you go back to the drawing board. You guys care about interceptions way more than I do. They're not all created equal. So I got no problem with that pick at all. By the way, one turnover best in the NFL right now through four games for the Washington commanders. But after two games of what is a very similar script, moving the football, not punting, scoring on almost every drive, not committing any penalties, never being behind the chains, having early down for a second down success, setting up third and short, moving the sticks on third down, getting receivers, spraying all over the formation, catching footballs on the fly. The feel yesterday was, wait a second, is this something that can actually continue? And I think the answer is yes, I really do. They ran the ball all over the Cardinals, 216 net on the ground. B-Rob 101, I thought he was terrific. I'm glad he's finally getting his roses around the league because he's a good hard runner, thumper, just not a guy that gets the type of respect in my opinion that he deserves. We said all week on this show, and I think everybody did, but we really harped on the Austin Echler loss because he'd been fantastic. I thought it would be a huge loss for Washington, not Echler because of how good he'd been as a pass catcher, number one, in pass protection, second, and as a rusher third. You know what good teams do? They tell Austin Echler, "He'll up. We'll see you next week." And they call on some guy who's not as good, and that guy has a great game. And that's what Washington did. Jeremy McNichols go have a day, six catches, excuse six carries, 68 yards, eight and a half a pop, had a 27 yard touchdown that was perfectly blocked, barely got touched. Think about this, Washington is eating people's lunch, and they're doing it with Terry McClorin and who, catching the football, who's their number two receiver? Is it Luke McCaffrey, who's going to be on the show at three, who has drafted it number 100 and gets targeted a couple times a week? Is it Noah Brown, who they signed three hours before the season started after the Texans said no thank you and cut them? Yesterday was the Alama Day Zacchaeus game from a Virginia product, bounced all over the league. They have Alama Day Zacchaeus and Jeremy McNichols carrying them on drives, who have a combined 15 different stops in the NFL. McNichols has been on a dozen teams at different points, getting signed, getting cut, getting signed, getting cut. And that outfit can't be stopped. What we're seeing is really special in terms of the preparation, the execution, the design, and the players deserve all the credit as well, the way that they're making it all work. Daniels, accurate, composed, stellar under pressure yesterday. One of my big fears about his college portfolio coming in was how's he going to deal with pressure? Yesterday he got a big old sweet check mark. I believe he was pressured 13 times, didn't throw an incompletion, didn't have a sack, got out of the pocket any time he was touched. You can't do better than that, it was 10 of 10 passing. And while I'm making this about the offense, because frankly that's why this team is good and that's why they have a chance to win, moving forward against Cleveland and both more than anybody else they're going to play. The defense was much, much better. And I give credit to Dan Quinn and Joe Wick, because I think they made in-game adjustments. Last week forget, Arizona returns the opening kick to the 40. They're first in 10, they go on a 55 yard drive like they were throwing against air, they walk right down the field, they take a 7-0 lead. Same thing happened against the Bengals by the way. You're on the road, now the Bengals environment was way more hostile and difficult to play in, because it actually looked like that was a home game in Phoenix, based on what I could see on TV. But the offense takes the field already down 7-0, and they go right down the field and tie the game, carbon copy. The difference this time was, instead of just being worked the rest of the game by Burrow and Chase and Higgins and Zach Moss, the defense bowed up, they actually got back to back three and outs at one point. They generated their second takeaway of the season for goodness sake. I thought Frankie Louvoo was a complete monster, just an animal. What a performance. He only had seven tackles, had a half sack, forced fumble, but he flew all over the place, just going on missions where he was blowing up blockers, taking people on so that his teammates could make plays in the backfield. Louvoo was phenomenal, this was the game I envisioned when they signed him. The rookie showed out, Daniels really good, Brandon Coleman played half the snaps, I thought he was sensational at tackle. After he was going to join us coming up in 40 minutes, big catch when he was called upon, sent it some huge blocks. What's not to like? The good guys are three in one. They've got a rookie quarterback on a rookie contract who looks like a baller. And maybe the most fun part of the whole thing, they have one of the most dynamic, prolific, exotic, efficient offenses in football for the first time since when. Everyone goes back to 12. Yes, they were number one in yards per play. Their offense didn't function like this, really, at any point in 12, if we're being honest. They're number one in completing passes, number three in yards per pass attempt. They're the best third down team in the league, they're number three in rushing, they're number second in scoring, number second, I don't think it works that way. They're number one in points per drive, they're number five in overall yards per game. They're fourth in yards per play. They're second in being the hardest team to force three and out in the entire. As I said, the one turnover is the lowest rate in the league. They're EPA offensively per play first. What a blast to watch. This has been amazing. This is the team that you guys normally hate. Watch the team that you have to watch. It's an obligation. You don't have to watch them right now. We get to watch them right now. It's fun again. I want to open up the phones next with game balls and gases. 800-636-1067 on the MGM National Harbor listener lines. 800-636-1067. Danny will be in today. He's coming in a little late. I look forward to hearing how excited he is. But your opportunity to give us a game ball for the best, gasser for the worst, next on GND. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] Beautiful design on the Daniel's keeper around the right edge for his rushing touchdown yesterday. He's got four of those on the season. Welcome back. Grant and Danny on the fan. Cliff Kingsbury calling that play and a bunch of others that worked again. What a job he's done in the early going. If you look at leaders in the NFL right now play calling wise who get their team into third and short most frequently. Washington is second in that quarterback's number of plays run needing one to four yards to get a first down on third down. Jaden Daniels is right at the top of the list. That's how you keep your offense on schedule. It's how you keep out of obvious passing downs. Although I thought Daniels was pretty good in those frankly yesterday as well. Kingsbury's just been brilliant and so far I raised my hand and say whoopsie. I was skeptical, especially after week one. But it is working in a big, big way right now offensively for the Washington commanders. Some of the numbers that are coming out from this offense through a couple of weeks are just eye popping and they are hard to fathom if you've been here the whole time. Because it just has not happened. The last two games they've thrown the ball 53 times they have 47 completions. Six days of football, 47 of 53 through the air. Their expected completion percentage is number one in football, which I think is an important Kingsbury stat right on expectation. Daniels should be at 73%, now he's actually 9% better than that. Completion percentage over expected is one of my favorite stats for quarterback play and he's number two in the league in it by the way. But no team has designed more open, easy throws. 73.4% then Cliff Kingsbury in this Washington offense. It has been a joy to watch. Game balls to the best gasters to the worst. My first game ball without further ado. Cliff Kingsbury second game ball. Let's keep it moving. Jaden Daniels protecting the football. The last two weeks his pull the ball down and run it versus look for receivers in the pocket decisions have been nearly flawless. And this has not been a run show. It eight attempts for 47 yards and a touchdown yesterday, which is really healthy all the way around the threat of him running petrified teams. The threat of him running made their fourth in one that they converted for a long run. Easy taking candy from a baby. Cooking bacon on a skillet couldn't have been easier because if you watch the play, the Cardinals are so nervous. They are so petrified that Daniels is going to keep the ball in one of those fourth and one that they ran early in the year that they just get out of their fits. They played Daniels and McNichols run straight ahead with nobody touching them. You could have driven a golf cart through the hole. Next game ball. The Alameda is a key is game. Just like we all knew they don't need another receiver. They got Alameda is a key is apparently six catches for 85 yards. They don't need another running back game ball time. They have Jeremy McNichols apparently. 12th team, 12th times the charm. That's how the saying goes right. Eight for 68, 27 yard touchdown barely got touched. I mean, Jeremy McNichols are Marshall Falk. Who's better? I couldn't tell. Yesterday, I'll go with Jeremy McNichols. Another day, maybe Marshall Falk. But what's the difference? They're the same guy. Jeremy McNichols or Jim Brown. Who's the better running back? Let's play a game. Call your grandpa. See what he says. I got a news flash. It's Jeremy McNichols. Okay, he's better than they all were. All the greats. Emmett Smith can't hold Jeremy McNichols jock. That's what yesterday looked like. Who's better? Alameda is a key is for Jerry Rice because I couldn't tell the difference. Jayden Daniels or Tom Brady? Tom Brady never did any of this. That's what I'm saying. I have one more. Thank you. Cliff Kingsbury or Bill Walsh? Who's better? Cliff Kingsbury or 1999 Mike Martz? Who you got? Call your shot. You tell me? Rams were the greatest show on earth. Turf. The commanders. The greatest show at Northwest Stadium. You see? And that's where you want to play, right? Northwest Stadium. It's just fun. Everybody's having a good time. 800-6-36-1067. One more game ball. Can we give the offensive line a little bit of love? Who's better? The hogs are this group. I mean, the hogs were fine. Don't get me wrong. They did okay sometimes. But these guys? Tom, move the hogs. Tom, move them. Nobody ever gets close to Jayden Daniels. If we wanted to play a little game of alliteration here, I think we could nickname the commanders right now. This offense, not the greatest show on turf, but the greatest show on earth. What is that? I'm just saying. This is like right off. What does that have to do with alliteration? Oh, that's true. It's just a rhyme. Can we play Ryan's theme music, please? I'm going to throw it to you for that. Just deliver it like you haven't said anything yet. Ryan's got a name for the commander's offense, everybody. He said it has to do with alliteration. Let's see what he's got. Instead of the greatest show on turf, we're going to go with the greatest show on earth. Oh, there we go. That's big. You were so psyched to say that. I was so psyched. I was thinking through it. I was like turf, turf, earth. Clearly, literally. I wish you guys could have seen this. He shoots his hand up like he's in a classroom and he knows the answer. He's looking at me. He's like calling me, calling me big smirk. I'm like, this guy's got something. Let's see. This guy has been waiting all day. What's he got here? I like it, Ryan. The greatest show on earth. The greatest show on earth. Can we jot that down for either later today or at some point tomorrow? What are we going to nickname this offense? How about cliffs? Seven on seven because they move the ball like they're playing seven on seven. We'll workshop it. 800-636-1067. Let's go to JNDC on Grant and Danny. What's up, Jay? What's up, Grant? Yeah, I just wanted to give a shout out to Josh Harris, man. The game ball goes down. Oh, no. You're breaking up. What else you got? Game ball to Josh Harris. Oh, you can't hear me? No, I can't. You're good. Sorry about that. Yeah. I was in my game ball to Josh Harris. The money he spent on the team to go to Arizona and stay there. I was hoping he would get a return on his investment. And they turned it out. And I just loved that. It was no way in the last 25 years. I don't know what to pay for the team to stay out there. And my second game ball goes to the old line. They were nasty. They gave Jayden a bunch of time. And they just finished everything. They just discussed it and you can see it on a TV broadcast. And the Jeremy Chen, people were winning off the field for the first two weeks. But the last two weeks, he's been crushing people. He was so physical yesterday. He was so. Thank you for the call, buddy. The phrase they like to use defensively is arrive violently. That's what he did. He got there and he blew people up. I thought him and Luvu both had pretty signature performances. What it's supposed to look like. That was kind of the vision for Adam Peters in this front office. I bet. But the first point Jay just made was phenomenal. We need to underscore as many times as we can today. How significant it was that they didn't come back home. On a short week from Cincinnati. They didn't settle back in at the park. They didn't get around friends and family and media to tell them how good they were. They stayed out in Phoenix. It was a business trip that cost a lot of money at the nice hotel. Putting the team up, eating and drinking night in and night out. I know billion dollar organization. They spent six bill for it. But trust me, there's owners who wouldn't do that. I'd say about half of the league probably at least. And one that was here for a long time. Because it's not something fans see. It's not something you get credit for necessarily. That was an absolutely critical decision. I give Quinn credit. Peters as well, whoever else was involved in going to Harris and saying let's do this. Let's stay out here all week. Not something that normally happens. And I think Peters based on his time in San Fran where they've had to do that occasionally. Where they fly cross country and they've posted up and played two games before going back. Maybe was a big part of the thinking there. 800-636-1067. Now let's mow through the calls next. Game balls to the best. Gasters for the worst. Grant and Danny on the fan. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] Yeah, I thought Cliff was really over the last few weeks. I thought the connection, the game planning to go. And so yes, he did. And just I've been in that space before. And no, there's some emotion that goes with that of playing somewhere where you put so much into it. And it doesn't go the way that you want. So yeah, he definitely got one today. And there'll be some others as we get back home. But I wasn't going to leave Arizona without presenting one to him. Cliff Kingsbury downplayed the returned Arizona where he was fired as a head coach. He could tell based on his peers, family's going to let you know how important the homecoming is. And when he got that football tossed to him post game by Dan Quinn, the entire locker room, went nuts. Welcome back. Grant and Danny on the fan. The commanders are three and one for the first time in 13 years and they're coming home. And presumably they will get to play the Browns in front of a pretty raucous crowd of fans who are from and around the DC area rooting for their own home team because people are very, very excited as they should be after a third consecutive win for Washington. Gameball on defense. Doran Armstrong, best game as a commander, sack and a half, one, one on one as a pass rusher throughout the game and a big pressure on the second play of the game, forcing Murray out of the pocket, had a nice run stuff two plays later on a Bobby Wagner, TFL, had a great rush and pressure on an incompletion on a throw behind Marvin Harrison, Jr. one right away on a sack from Frankie Louvoo and had a big sack on the fourth down right before the half that I thought changed the whole game. And by the way, I thought that was a terrible play by Murray and maybe a bad decision by the Cardinals. But think about the swing at the end of the game. The seven point game Arizona is driving. They go for a fourth down. They have two receivers open past the sticks. Murray stares at him like he didn't know who they were like, "Which team are you again?" "Why not you?" And just waited, waited, waited until Doran Armstrong got there and got the sack. Okay. Whatever you want to do. Washington took the ball, went and got a field goal and took a ten point lead into the half. Then they got the big PI to start the second half and they were up 17 and they never looked back. I thought Armstrong was awesome. Give me one more game ball. The D-Tackles showed up. You guys wanted more out of Allen and Payne, you got it. They both contributed a sack in the ball game. They were both disruptive up front, not coincidentally in a game where the defense finally got its act together. Let's go to the phones, Joe's in college park. What's up, Joe? Hey, brother, thanks for taking my call. I appreciate it. I originally wanted to give one to Kingsbury. Obviously well deserved, but the more I thought about it, you know, I really want to give it up to those fans that were at the game. I mean, it's so often at FedEx over the years, we've been taking over and the other team's defense, you know, they'll get the crowd hyped. And to watch our team do that this weekend to get our fans hyped in another stadium and actually hear the volume through the TV, it was just remarkable. So I just want to give it up to those people out there. I know we can't get back home, but to see that live, you know, on TV and hear it as the crowd got louder, that felt great, man. Yeah, that was a prideful moment for me and I think a lot of us watching. The Let's Go Red Skins chant that was audible and obvious. This was not one of those, what's the crowd chanting that you can hear? They're yelling something. It was very clearly a Let's Go Red Skins chant in Phoenix. This was after the Cardinals had been booed. By the way, that's two times this week where Washington's on the road curb stomping someone so badly that their crowd is booing them because they just don't have any answers. They're throwing their hands up going, what do you want us to do? We can't stop them. That's Washington that's doing that. The local outfit, the commanders, the football team, the, you know, that team, the burgundy, the gold, those guys, they're doing it. Raised in Baltimore, listening on the Odyssey app. What's up, Ray? Well, no, I'm not listening on the Odyssey app. I'm listening on one of six seven. Well, you know, we just have a big signal, I guess, all the way to Baltimore. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, yeah, I'm in your area right now, but I just want to get a flowers because, listen, I grew up a Skins fan and, you know, I'm happy to see it. Obviously, I believe purple, but I'm just happy to see it and more importantly, you know, I mean, before I land my plane, I'm excited for the young fans. And the parents who stuck with them and they can, you know, become fans of my team or, you know, the Dallas Cowboys. And more importantly, I'm excited that it's balanced. That's about to be formed again in this area because it's been to one side of too long when it comes to just the ratings. And, you know, the game is going to happen in less than two weeks is going to take on a whole new meaning versus an expected, you know what I mean? You know, I mean, Raven's win, but my game wall goes to Brown Robinson because, you know, he knows nothing's been said as far as the running game coming back to the league. And it's not, you know, overwhelming passing, but I'm just excited for the balance is about to take place in the DMV. So, Ray, I got a question for you real quick. Oh, he hung up. I was about to ask him what it's like to have, you know, Brian Robinson light it running back in Derek Henry. And he's having a fine little area to the 87 year touchdown yesterday, but a couple of weeks from now, you're about to find out. Poor man's Jaden Daniels at quarterback Lamar Jackson. You're going to find out a couple of weeks from now. He's right though. Stick aside, the fans that have hung around that have still been calling all these years, still been coming out to the events where in the gear. You've earned it. I mean, you've more than earned it. You've earned this and a lot more. You've earned a playoff run and parades and all kinds of joy that hopefully one day will be given to you, but 19 years without a playoff win is what we're talking about. And if it was just bad football, that's one thing. It's being the butt of the joke. It's an owner who was deplorable. It's an operation that made you have to like whisper who you liked because you were going to get made fun of at the party. It's only a month of decent football and two weeks of great football. Really, it's not even two weeks. It's not like it's been 14 days. It's a calendar week of amazing football. Like think about how much the world has changed around here in seven days. Seven days ago today, we're at the casino in Cincinnati. Washington is one in one. They had played a terrible game against the Bucks. They had played a very average game against a bad Giants team. They probably could have and should have lost. They didn't. They want it. That's all that matters. And they were about to take on the Bengals as heavy underdogs. Two games ago, two wins ago, two offensive masterpieces ago, and a Jaden Daniels primetime jam and really quality outing yesterday ago. Bernie's in Potomac Falls. What's up, Bernie? Thanks, Kevin, my call, Grant. So here's what I found amazing. They scored 80 points, right? So my game ball goes to Jaden Daniels because they didn't have a short field once in that time. And also, you think you score 80 points in two weeks and two games? There is going to be a strip sack return for a fumble. There's going to be a pick six. There's going to be a short field. You know, team fumbles at the 20 yard line. None of that happened. They scored 80 points on offense, not special teams, not anything. And I'll tell you what, it looks repeatable, which gives me hope. It doesn't look like a flash in the pan. And my second game ball goes to Adam Peters because I think like every commander fan was worried when Eclar was out, not, you know, not just for his play, but his leadership too, right? Totally. And they didn't miss a beat. And I think, you know, eventually you're going to lose an offensive lineman to injury. You know, you're going to find out on Sunday. Somebody can't go. I don't think I've ever had more confidence in their depth this year. Yeah, I just, I just think that plug in whoever you want if Maclaurin has a bum ankle, they can, they can win a game or two without their stars. And that's why Peters gets the game ball because they look complete. So they signed a lot of these veterans to these one year, two year deals for that reason, right? Now, they're going to have plenty of contracts coming up this offseason. But to that point, you're going to have a quarterback on a rookie contract. You're becoming a bit of a destination if you continue to win. Players love playing for Dan Quinn, which we've known. If you have a strong season and now people want to come play with Jaden Daniels, you have $100 million to spend maybe the most flexibility coming into free agency this coming year. Like this could be not just fun as you surprise people this year and there's going to be an adjustment from defenses coming, but you'll be able to adjust perhaps to your point on the drives. The touchdown drives netted 70, 93, 70, 70, and 76 yards. And the only, I'll call it cheapy in there if you want to use air quotes was a 23 yard drive when they got 47 on a PI that probably didn't need to be called. But there was clear contact. I just didn't think it was a catchable pass deep into the end zone, but you'll take it. But you're right. It's not like a short field first and goal from the four or a kickoff muff or something crazy. The offense is earning it going on these long time sucking drives. You mentioned Echler, he'll be on the show tomorrow at five o'clock. Jay Gruden today at five o'clock. And next we're expected to join up with Luke McCaffrey as he leaves the building. He's getting a workout in today. He of course had a big catch set up a touchdown for the first place three and one commanders were giving about game balls, gasters to the best and the worst. Gruden Danny on the fan. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] A victory Monday, a winning streak three in a row for the commanders. Welcome back, Grant and Danny on the fan. We are pumped up right now to go to the bet QL guest hotline that's smarter to beat the books, download the bet QL app, visit betql.com, and welcome on to the show the aforementioned Luke McCaffrey. You made that catch there. Of course he had the huge 40 yard catch and run on a fourth down in Cincinnati and he joins us up. I think we just lost Luke. We'll get to him in just one second on G and D. But how about the big catch yesterday as we welcome Danny in studio. We missed our first hour, but he is here now and a Washington win Danny, just like we drew it up. >> Yeah, this is I believe our own Ryan Clary said the greatest show on earth. So I think we are right there. Of course I heard that it was unbelievable. I'm stuck in traffic. I'm gonna do this throughout the show, but huge apologies. I was wrong. I couldn't have been more wrong about so many different things. They are so much better than I thought they would be. What a blast. >> Luke is on the line with us right now. So first of all, Luke, congrats on a hot start. Yeah, man. And a job. Well done. Thanks for a few minutes. >> Yeah. Thank you so much for having me. This is awesome. >> Well, we're fired up to have you on the show. Just to take a few minutes out of your day from just scoring points and kicking ass. >> You got me so tired from doing that. >> This offense cannot be stopped. Tress, wait barely on the team. One punt in three weeks. What do you make of how well you guys have moved the ball? >> No, this has been awesome. I mean, I think it's a lot of guys doing what you're supposed to do and getting their job done. No, I think the special plays come when they present themselves and then it's a lot of just operating. I think everyone can attest to this, but I think it's a lot of guys just having fun out there, playing free, playing fast and enjoying it. I can't wait to bring it back to the DMV and play at home this week. >> So was there a moment? Was there a point in time? Maybe look going back maybe a month or two ago where you go. I think this offense could be pretty good. Like, like, go back to that point versus right now because this is better than, you know, pudgy rubes like myself ever thought. I mean, you guys are scoring 40 a week. And as Grant said, you hate punting so much. You just never do it. When did you get a good feeling? Like, you know what? I actually think this offense could be pretty special. >> Yeah, holy cow. I mean, I don't know exactly how to describe it, but, you know, I think I came here as a rookie and just thought, oh, it's the NFL. Everybody's better, right? And so I don't know if I ever, ever noticed that we were doing, you know, stuff, right? I just assumed that, you know, when you're playing at this high of a level and when you're playing in the NFL, things operate according to plan and you get your job done just like everybody has. And so I think it's been so cool to see just the way that guys come out and compete with intention every single week and every single rep in practice. And I think that goes a long way. Hopefully we can use that to keep growing, right? To keep getting better because you want to peak at the right times in the NFL. And it's great to have momentum now, but hopefully we can, we can build on this and grow. >> Has Jayden Daniels done anything that's really surprised you to this point? >> I'm not sure, you know, playing with him. I think he's been, he's been pretty on it since the jump. I think it was so cool to those to watch how he's gotten comfortable, how he's gained confidence and how he's grown, even just being with him in this, in this short period of time from OTAs to what are we, we five now. And so I think it's just been cool to be able to go along with this journey of his. >> You were a quarterback in college, you know, a lot of guys, I'm sure in the league played quarterback in high school or whatever, but you're more a quarterback than most dudes are. And so I'd imagine your perspective of just the grasp of the offense and whatever he receivers doing, you probably see it through a little bit of that QB lens still. I mean, what do you make of just overall how he's performed and the efficiency with which receivers are getting open and he's moving the chains. You guys have more scoring drives than he's had in completions. >> Yeah, you know, I think I played quarterback for a long time. We have a lot of smart cats on our team, right? We have a lot of receivers, a lot of running backs, a lot of tight ends and even alignment who really understand and love the game of football. And I think that goes a long way to where, you know, it builds a cohesiveness that we all kind of get to play together. We get to play at a high level and we get to, you know, be on the same page. And so I think that's all played into it. Just being able to learn Cliff's scheme, being able to see how he dices it up. And I think he's done such a great job through these first couple of weeks as well. And then, you know, when you have a quarterback that can match and create chemistry with a coordinator and the rest of the team, you know, I think it's cool because a lot of weapons can can attack a defense, you know, whether it's, you know, one player, one game or another player, another game. There's always another option if a team decides to, you know, dedicate themselves to take away a player. And that's been a lot of fun to just see how many guys we have that can hurt other teams. Look, McCaffrey with us here on Grant and Danny, how much more comfortable do you feel now than your first day on campus? You know what I mean? Of being a pro for that first rookie mini camp. Like, how much more confident, comfortable in doing things right now? Yeah, it's a lot of fun. You know, I think it's so cool to see how this coaching staff has been able to just really take in the young guys. We have a really young team in general. And I think just the confidence that they bring and the ability to attack every rep and they learn from every rep has been awesome. So I think they instilled that confidence so early that it's just been a process of getting better and learning. And I think we've all myself most definitely have gotten better since day one, but it's the confidence that they instilled early that allowed us to go out there, take risks and make mistakes and do whatever we can to help grow and learn from us. Luke, I haven't seen the updated numbers since this game, but you went into this game in the top five in the NFL and average, you know, separation score basically like how far you get detached from whoever's covering you. What do you make of a that status that's something you track it all like what do you care about as a receiver, but be just kind of the way things have gone for you because you've been involved from time to time you got seven grabs in these four games you had the big 40 yarder on fourth and two against the Bengals, but you're also open a ton when I go back and watch the last few games I mean you're you just stay open. Yeah, well, well, thank you, you know, I think receivers such a fun position because it's a little bit of an art form right it's a little bit of if you've ever seen Yellowstone it's a little bit like cowboying right it's something that, you know, your best plays aren't always going to be the ones that are your highlights. Sometimes your worst plays end up being your highlights just because you're covered and you make a great catch but what I think is so cool is how we've been able to open the offense up altogether right we've been able to get so many guys open at different times and it's just a matter of you know when and where depending on who clicks right it's so cool to be a part of a team that has such great depth such great character and then a lot of unselfish guys, you know, I think it's so cool. Just especially you know I think one great example is Terry of you know he hadn't gotten a ton of touches and then you watch him in that Bengals game just show why he is so special right and it's stuff that we've all known and we've never questioned because we see in every day of practice and we saw him through fall camp and then you know you get to see that shine at different moments and it's so cool to be a part of an offense where you can genuinely be so happy and joyful for other people and that it makes to success right in the long term and we're going to go out there and compete in battle every single rep. All right put you on the spot all of your teammates who's the John Dutton who's the Rip Wheeler and who's the Casey Dutton. Holy cow that's that's a good question right there. John Dutton I'm gonna go with. Oh I mean I feel like he got to go coaches right there. That's the cue. He said John Dutton Casey Casey I might go with Colson Yankoff he's my roommate he's a good buddy. He's got the mustache he's from Idaho. He sits into that that entire that entire you know enigma and then you know you look at I'm going all rookies here. I love it. I probably forgot a bet but I'm going with T.O. Tyler Owens for for my Rip Wheeler I think he goes out there and just hits people right he's just he's just a force to be reckoned with. And I think when you go out there and if you watch special teams and all holy cow he is. He's putting somebody on the ground every single play he's hitting people just to hit people and he's he's setting the talent for us which is pretty cool. You want to fight somebody fight me that was now awesome. That was a difficult question to answer on the fly and he just it was like he prepared the answer last night. I love it. Serious one though for football wise here here's something I always kind of wonder as as a receiver like you're responsible don't any given play let's say it's a pass route right. So you run your route you've got a guy like Jayden Daniels who is going to extend somebody play sometimes it's a runs that he that he takes on sometimes he's buying some time for you to kind of get back open. What's kind of the go through that internal clock in your head versus kind of also reading things where you go okay this one's probably time for me to block or this is time for me to keep plastering and find some space for him. I love to go through that process for a guy that's so athletic. Yeah I think if you go back to fall camp and anybody who's been around our program just appreciates the smart smartness and the genius of Cliff right. We've been working on scramble drill since OTAs and that's something that not a lot of teams do not a lot of teams I've been a part of at least have really emphasized and so when it comes to that you're always ready and you always have a plan right. So we're obviously you're going to have to improvise you're going to have to make plays and you're going to have to react to whatever's in front of you but it's been so cool to work on that to take that as part of our offense just knowing. Hey we're going to get some looks for there and drop eight right we're going to get some looks where there's three man rush and maybe our concept's not going to work because they got you know a whole bunch of guys out there in coverage. But how can we still make that a play right how can we still create that and do an explosive and then you know especially in the red zone you see so many off target touchdowns and successful plays that I think that's such a vital part of. You know the whole entire game of football now no matter who you are even if you're not necessarily an athletic quarterback like Jaden is but I think it's been so cool to work on that and to put that as as a piece of emphasis. Couple of part question for you and Luke McCaffrey's with us on Grant and Danny's off to a tremendous start as a third round picker in Washington helping out this passing attack 17 yard catch and run acrobatic athletic play middle of the field to set up a touchdown yesterday. On Cliff Kingsbury you just referenced number one did you guys get a sense at all that that was big for him to go back to Arizona or did you just assume it. I saw the reaction in the locker room he downplayed it all week and then second what is it about him or his design that is so unique and so successful because there have been a lot of questions about him. But I kind of love the formations and he had four guys that stacked up in like a quad look with three tight ends and be robbed for a screen like there's just so many different things he's doing that I don't really see a lot. Yeah I think for for starters you know yes about him going back to Arizona and that's probably something that's assumed and I think we built a brotherhood on this team which is really cool that you know we ride or die in the good times and the bad times. You know we know that that we're the group that that fights together and and it's really cool to see you know every single person on on this team and in this organization have success and that was just a cool cool marker for him and then you know when you look at his scheme and the different movements you know there's so many elements that defenses have to keep accountable whether it's you know the power run game whether it's getting outside zone whether it's a zone read. And then you know in the past game he just builds up a lot of really good man beaters and then you know always has an answer for zone and so it's been hard to you know we haven't seen a lot of teams run man against us especially you know you saw Terry have a couple deep shots and and that opens a lot of things up and just allows allows the scheme to play into itself and and I think all of that whether it's mixing personnel's whether it's creating match ups is something that Cliff does really well in combination with building tempo and building a sense of urgency for the offense to where you always feel like you're attacking right and and that's something that we always emphasize as an offense and it's been really fun to to get into that and to to grow and hopefully you know I think we can continue to grow and get better as as we go throughout the season. Is the the lack of man do you think that's because of Jayden's running ability and not basically want to have to turn your back to him? Yeah there's a lot of factors I think that plays into it I think you know having a couple receivers that can win versus man goes into it I think you know our screen game and our running game goes into it and then also you know the NFL is a majority zone scheme league right now and I think that plays into it. It's just not a lot of people's bread and butter and so it kind of plays into all of those. Luke I'm just a dude that loves watching football and watching you guys win has been awesome. I think and this is my unprofessional opinion. I feel like you're a really good blocker. Do you agree with my assessment and be if I'm wrong what am I missing? Thank you yeah you know I think that's something we've emphasized all year again going back to OTA is being able to block being able to get an open station. I think that was one of the things switching from quarterback that was the biggest you know hurdles of trying to learn how to do that and I think I had a lot of help from you know all our coaches here on staff and then from my dad who is a great blocker back when he was playing and so it's been cool to just learn from all these people's experience and to kind of become somebody who takes pride in blocking. I think I'm not as good as I hope that I can be you know one day but I think I've taken a lot of steps which has been cool and fun. Last one for me you mentioned your pops. I loved him as a player. Right when I was like coming in so I'm in my 30s but when I was like becoming a huge NFL fan he was just putting up thousand yard seasons and then awesome Denver team. And then when I hear the stories about him telling you like not to wear jeans on Friday night to make your legs tired or getting IVs getting out of class. Like I'm just like all in on this guy. He is a commander's mark right now. He's like posting the standings. He's getting all in. I'm following him on Twitter now. I guess he's got two favorite teams right because he's got a multitask with your brother in San Francisco. But Ed McCaffrey commander's fan. Let's go. I know somebody somebody gave him a Twitter and we haven't been able to get him to stop typing everything. He's put out probably more tweets than than anyone in the country but but no I love it. His Twitter is actually awesome and I think it's cool to show his personality a little bit. He was always a very stoic player and I think now that he gets to do a couple of things whether it's Twitter or the radio he gets to show the personality that we all know him as and it's a lot of fun to just see him joking around him having a blast and then you know obviously when you win games it makes it even more fun and exciting. You mentioned personality before we let you go a couple frivolous things that do not matter here Luke. You've got your young give him metabolism must be must be a lot of fun. Cheat meal right no one's going to judge you there's no way in coming up you're going to eat whatever you want and then just sort of lounge afterwards. Give me the mail. Yeah my cheat meal I'm going to Texas Roadhouse I'm getting the outlaw ribeye and I'm very specific ribeye. I love that answer. Texas Roadhouse do they still do the really good bread? Yep yep you know it. That's a great item. What are your sides there with your ribeye you're not even worried about that. Oh I get fries yeah fries and then if I have the time I'll go to Chili's and get one of those chocolate malt lava cake. Oh my god one of us is one of us. Chili's chocolate lava cake no exaggeration is my favorite dessert like I will sit that out. Yeah it's always it's always been mine we would go there for birthdays for holidays for everything growing up and so that's a special one to me. The scooped ice cream is like a frozen brick basically that they just drop on there. Oh it's so good. Are you watching anything right now or is Yellowstone like rewatched over and over again for you. I rewatched Yellowstone a lot I just watched better call Saul. So good. Yeah what else I restarted Stranger Things just because it's a good show so kind of in between a lot right now. You pop on that all 22 you'll see a lot of yards and a lot of points from the local football operation. You can watch that all day long like the rest of us will be. This has been a blast in town man. People have been waiting to just see a fun offense for a long time and you guys are delivering the goods. Thanks for three straight wins we appreciate it. Congrats buddy. Yeah awesome thank you it's great hearing the support can't wait to uh can't wait to see everybody at home this week. Yeah it's gonna be great back at home for the Cleveland Browns it's Luke McCaffery on Grant and Danny here on the fan. Yeah audience love that one rightly so. And how could they not. He's like I'm going to Texas Roadhouse and I'm gonna get a ribeye. Texas Roadhouse is a hole by the way. He knows what he's talking to. Alright so Danny has not really gotten to give many his thoughts yet. He is a late arrival today so we will get to the bottom of some of your takeaways game balls and gasters from the game we do have Jay Gruden at five o'clock. Next I want to chop up how real is this how much are you allowing yourself to fully buy in and invest in what's happening. Or is this just a fun calendar week where twice over six days the commander is put on a couple shows you're listening to Grant and Danny. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] Right ahead Brian Robinson of these end of the end zone for a commander's touchdown. Each team scoring a touchdown at his first position. [BLANK_AUDIO] Child's play give them the football they get seven points. That's what happens with the Washington offense. Thanks for Luke McCaffery's time he just stopped by on Grant and Danny. Danny I think what's so amazing to me is that on a day where they didn't have arguably their best offensive player outside of the quarterback position this season in Austin Echler. And we all said they're going to miss him a bunch. They plug in a guy who was on his 12th contract in the NFL with a team. And Jeremy McNichols and he went ham. We've talked all off season about the wider receiver position. Do they have enough talent? Do they have enough weapons? Alamadeza Kias went crazy yesterday. They had receivers open all day long. This is not a slight to Jaden Daniels who was efficient and effective and tremendous again. Made all the right decisions was awesome. Every way that he could be he was phenomenal. Having gone back and watched every throw. There were four throws he made where defenders within a couple of yards of a receiver. There were two throws that I would consider to be in coverage. All game. What they're doing with this group of talent with Cliff Kingsbury right now is astounding. Yeah, they were right and I was wrong. I posted as much at funny to Andy at humor standing on Instagram. I all off season I kind of looked at both the offensive line really specifically the tackle spot. And wide receivers and I go they did this is an unforced error. They needed to do more here to support Jaden Daniels most specifically. I thought what would happen is they might win some games, but it would have to be, you know, Daniel scramble left, Daniel scramble right, Daniel's hero ball and you eke out a couple of wins in the first half of the season as everybody gets their feet wet and you're running in a high risk there. I was wrong about all of that. They're averaging 40 points to game the last two games over the span of a week. Seven days they put up 38 and 42 points. Arizona walked down the field on their open and drive. It was really impressive actually opening script converted to fourth down beautiful throwing catch in the court of the end zone to Marvin Harrison. I go, okay, buckle up. Here we go. It's a shootout, right? Let's go. Let's go play. Let's go see what happens. No, it wasn't. They outscored Arizona from there 42 to 7 when they got the ball back. It was 42 to 7 over the next 55 minutes. What? What in the hell is this? What organization is this? What team is this? I have no idea where this goes and I don't care. They are so much better than I thought they would be. This is so much more fun than I could have ever imagined. I mean, I love Jane Daniels. I want to Jane Daniels. I'm glad they drafted him, right? But I'm going, you know, they'll be some, they'll be, and they're still will be. It's on some hurdles, some setbacks, some adversity. You could punch in the nose. Somebody figures out what you want to do, takes this away, whatever, right? We know some bad stuff is happening. It's sports. It's the league. But it ain't happening right now. What an unbelievably fun, relaxing. I was not stressed for a single second watching the game on Sunday. There's no, here we go again. There's no other shoe dropping, sideline laughter and jocularity as they text that ass out there in Arizona and their fans booed. Not my fans, not the fans of this team that are booing for investigations and impropriety or because, uh, Dan Snyder's wife was on the Jumbo Tron. No, no, no opposing fans getting woodshaded. They booed. Unbelievably fun time. They're just doing so many really good football team things. Like not committing any penalties for three quarters again. They did not commit an offensive penalty that put them behind the sticks for three plus quarters. How is that possible? I don't know. For two straight games, but at some point you just become the thing that you keep doing, right? And they are running the ball well. Now that was the one thing I think we all kind of assumed would be a strength this year. Because when you have a quarterback like Jaden Daniels, who can run and who scares defenses and keeps them up at night, we saw this in 2012. You've seen it with the Ravens for many, many years with Lamar Jackson. It doesn't matter if it's Gus Edwards or Justice Hill or named some reigning running back. They're going to go out and they're going to have a ton of success because you're defending an 11 and 11. You got to be honest to the quarterback. You got to play those read option looks. They were going to run the ball well, but this has been a renaissance of sorts for Brian Robinson. We got a buck yesterday, Eckler looks like he shot out of a cannon every time he touches the ball. He's hurt. Doesn't play yesterday. Jeremy McNichol's averaged eight and a half yards per carry. No, I'm like three carries either eight carries for 70 yards, Danny, hit a 27 yard touchdown, ripped off a couple of 15 plusers. Jeremy McNichols. You mean the Danny and Thomas? Right. I mean, I just, it's amazing what they are doing right now. And quick Kingsbury, think about it, I mean, they're the, I'll leave you, if you caught this on the telecast, but do you remember the play where there's a little bit of misdirection, a lot of window dressing and they just, and Danos flips it out in the flat to Zacchaeus. Who's just jogging in the post? Okay. So this was a, he lined up in the backfield by the way, there was a lot of these kinds of things. Zacchaeus is in the backfield. They make everything look like it's going to the top of the screen left and then they come back to him on a swing pass to the right bottom of the screen if you're watching at home. He had nothing but real estate in front of him. He's like, I guess I'll just keep going really far down the field and it's one of those things where he caught it. You don't see anyone in the frame and then the camera pans and there's still no one. Still no, but he pans again and there's still no one you're like, where is this team? Someone should defend this. Yeah. And it cut to Kingsbury on the sideline. And he's got that, that sort of, I'm on the runway walk with a smirk on his face. You know what I mean? Where it's just like, I'm on such a different level than you guys trying to catch me. Right now, maybe somebody does, maybe somebody figures it out in the years past people have, right? The second half Arizona offenses were worse than the first half and I'm not sitting here to bring the parade. I'm telling you, nobody's figured it out yet. No, he's, he's calling steps ahead at this point, right, where we know what look you're looking for. We're not only we're going to give it to you, but then we're going to change direction and you know what? You have no idea where the next shot's coming from. I think what would scare me is if I'm the other teams on their schedule. This is pretty sustainable, not like all of the things going their way, where Zacchaeus basically falls down, maybe a foot shy of the sticks they call it a first down. The Cardinals don't throw a challenge flag or, you know, did you think that should have been a pass interference on the deep shot to Noah Brown? So context made, I wouldn't have said pass interference. I would have said illegal contact. You can't have the balls in the air. Well, to me, like something, you can't touch the person, like when the balls in the air, you can't do that. So three, what I think what happens 90% of the time there is the refs get together and they say uncatchable, essentially. Like that, that ball was not being caught. He threw it to the back of the letters in the end zone and the contact was like at the, I think they marked the ball at almost the 10, you know what I'm saying, like, having said that, whatever, it was a 55 yard play. It was beautiful. Like so many of these things just don't normally happen for them. They don't get that call. They don't, they aren't first in goal from the 10, then on the ensuing drive after that touchdown to take now a 17 point lead, two of the first three plays, the Cardinals ran were for 10 plus yards and they got penalties on holding calls that came back. It's just happening in a way that never does for Washington, it feels like, but it's almost like when you're a good team and you're playing from in front, good things happen. And we're just not used to being that team either. No, it always usually comes down to if this call goes against us, it's over. Totally. Right. And that's not the case. I still have questions. Any good yet or not? I know he's made all of his kicks. He has not kicked the field go longer than 45 every time they would kick a 52 or 53 or 54 yarder. They're just busy getting the first down. They just get another first down. Yeah. So at some point I'd like to figure out if they have a good kicker or not that they can count on when they need a big kick later in the season beyond 50 yards. I'll wait until we figure that one out. There are some other questions like, I don't know if this is a team that can play from behind the way that they do it, where everything's predicated on running the football, where Daniel's keeping, you know, a lot of it's off play action. And it reminds me of like the Ravens at one point in time, what we talked about. If you're down 10, 12, 13, nobody really comes back from that at a high rate. But if you were able to jump out 21, seven, let's say somehow, some way, I don't know how you would ever do that against this commander's team is what I mean. You stop them at least twice and no one's doing that. But if you were up by two touchdowns, like, what does that look like? There's still things they've got to answer, but the way they run the ball, the way they protect the football, the way they scheme guys open as accurate as Daniel's is, as composed as he seems to be, a lot of that probably isn't going away. Will defenses make adjustments to them? Of course. That's how it works. They're figuring this thing out or not as the cases on the fly. And when they do, Daniel's and Cliffy are going to have to make an adjustment. But right now, they're one step ahead of everything that the defensive coordinators are doing. There is no answer in this moment. And what they're content to do is you start against Cincinnati where, you know, I usually bristle and I can't stand just knee-jerk people that yell about establishing the run. Because there's always has to be a means to an end. There's no one way to run an offense. You could throw it a million times. You could run it a million times. If you're effective, that's all really that matters. But they are content to continue to thump to make you cover it. That's really what I'm seeing from this offense more than anything else is you have to respect blank. So when you add up a number of things that you have to respect, you got to respect Robinson. Well, you got to respect Daniels if he keeps it. Well, then you got to respect, you know, this, this short pass. Well, if you don't do that, then you got to respect Earth's over the middle. If you don't, we respect those four things, then you've got to worry about some of the misdirection and some of the, uh, the jet action. Well, if you don't, if you don't respect all those things, do you have to respect little corn deep and you're now out of respect. Now you're going to get hit by something. And they're always figuring out what thing, what hole in the dam you're plugging and they're going in a different direction and they're going to something else. And even if they aren't, it's to set up the time that they will it's, this is a clinic in offense. It's not, again, it's not just hurry up passing where they're thrown for 500 yards, greatest show on turf style. And you know, you can't stop anybody. This is thumping people, scoring 40 points a game. It's unbelievably awesome. Speaking of greatest show on turf, I've got an idea for what they could name this often. Well, let's brainstorm. What are some ideas? I'll go with some alliteration. Go greatest show on earth, greatest show on earth, alliteration. We do need to do a segment tomorrow, book it. I want this tomorrow. We're naming this offense. Oh, I know you're going to be mad about that. It's going to be too cute for you. We're going to name Cliff Kingsbury's offense. Okay. Okay. They never pun. No, they deserve it. Butless. I have another idea. When Luke McCaffery catches a touchdown, we should do a lunch on the show. The next day on a victory Monday, hopefully, where we do a ribeye from Texas Roadhouse. Yeah. And we do chocolate lava cakes from Chili's. I don't know how we transport those to the studio, but we should just call it the McCaffery. And we should go full McCaffery. Full McCaffery every time he scores. Okay. So, so win Luke Tuddy. And then we get, we get rib eyes and chocolate lava cakes. I think so. Yeah. I mean, that sounds great. Okay. Why not? Oh, no, I don't want to do that. The commanders have the most envied, sorry about offense in the National Football League. It is fun to be a fan of this team again. Dare I say they're a must watch right now when they've got the foot. NBA League past style, except it's the league, you know, but they are great and Danny with you on the fan. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] We will sneak in a double play in a few moments. Grant and Danny welcoming you back on the fan. After B-Rob went for 100, Jaden Daniels threw for 2.30 a touchdown, overcame an interception. Alameda is a Kias lead. All Washington receivers with 85 yards on six catches. Terry McLaurin, Eddie Yeomans, very McLaurin-esque effort. Seven catches for 52 yards, long of 15, a lot of stuff underneath. But he had a big touchdown back in the end zone as well. >> Which was sweet too, man, that was really, really awesome. And lost in all this, again, as we talk about receiving totals, the offensive line blocking things up way better than I thought. Grant of Coleman holding up. >> 50% snap count just about. There were 72 total snaps for the offense. Cornelius Lucas played 37 at left tackle. Brandon Coleman played 35 and Coleman was awesome. >> He was, I thought, really, really good. You saw that slightly slower developing, right? Usually around the goal line that terrifies me, right? Where it's either someone comes loose for a pass rush or there's a potential negative play. But that was totally fine. Alameda survey, McLaurin in breaking route catches right in the back of the end. So that was awesome. >> Let's go to the phones and talk to Alex and Leesburg who's been waiting on G&D. What's up, Alex? >> Hey, what's up, guys? I think it's actually real, man. I was talking to my buddy the other day, well, actually yesterday, about the comparison between RG and Jaden. It's not the same. Jaden 6-4, I think people don't realize out all that dude is. And he's so fast that the difference between him and a lot of the mobile quarterbacks that you see in the league is he can see over the line. And he doesn't use his legs strictly. It's awesome, and I think it's real. And then one thing the defense yesterday was putting hats on people. I saw one of the plays where they ran out right. And you saw Forbes get in there and stick pretty good and pretty bad for law, so yeah, I'm excited, man. I think this is real. I'm very skeptical because this franchise has abused me for years. I'm 46, so I've seen the- >> You're afraid to say that from under the bed, there could be someone lurking out there. Thank you for the call. Now, on Daniel's couple of things. So number one, comparing him to Griffin, I don't even think is really fairer or a good idea at this point. I think he is really far ahead of where Robert was as a passer. I also think that while that offense that they had was the number one offense that year. Daniel's is, I would think running more than Griffin was. Not on design stuff though, he scrambles a lot more than Griffin did on throwing downs on drop backs, so to speak, whereas Griffin Kyle was designing a lot more. Remember, there was like a 12 carry game where there were like 10 design runs. Washington hasn't gotten anything close to that, but I think he's advanced and I'm not gonna sit here and pretend today, like I was Mr. Jayden Daniels. Obviously I was very skeptical about a few things and I'm so hopeful that he continues to deliver the goods and he's the guy for a long, long time. But the one thing we talked a lot about on this show was he was a way better prospect than Griffin was. And I'm not trying to beat up on Robert, that's not what this is at all. Griffin was an immensely talented electric skill set QB, it was also a number two pick and Heisman Trophy winner. But when you look at 50 touchdowns, four picks in the SEC last year versus doing something impressive at Baylor and a bunch of big, 12 shoot outs. When you look at the accuracy and the numbers down the field and some of those things, Daniels, and this is kind of what we were saying during camp. Like where is the excitement? Where is the juice? Where are the phone calls? Where everyone's like, well, Robert Griffin, this is the best quarterback prospect in terms of skill set they've ever had. Now, whether that works or not, we didn't know and we still kind of don't, although it looks pretty damn good. Early returns promising. Yeah. And then there's this is this week, really. I've heard from someone in my friends. I talk about this all the time. This used to be like the group of guys that no matter what was going on, we got together on Sunday to watch the then Redskins. Not only do we not do that anymore because everyone's busy. Everyone's got lives, but I'm the only one that watches the games at all of this group of like, you know, almost 20 different dudes that I grew up with. Now the texts are starting. Now the emails are going back and forth about how exciting and fun this is. Did you see this with Daniels? Did you see this story? You see this comment? It's like it's 25 years ago again, the give a damn factor. So I think what was happening, and I still think this is true to a degree, there was a reticence to just like the call of reference to put your heart on the line. There was a reticence to believe how many times have you been? This is the dude. This is the dude. And you and me trying to tell you, hey, this one's different. It's still just waves crashing on the shore. Fans heard that Sam Howe, that this version of Carson Wentz or this thing, this thing, it was always going to be the thing that fixed it. This is different. And I think people are now kind of, you know, sort of opening up their doors and seeing sunlight for the first time. They basically, though, the fan base you're alluding to has had two opportunities in like 25 years at real legitimate young quarterback answer. And that was Griffin in Cousins, if I'm not misremembering a little bit. Like I liked Jason Campbell fine, but his ceiling was kind of game managing JAG, so to speak, on a rookie contract. But, you know, the Griffin potential hope as a Heisman Trophy winner picks second and then Cousins, which never happens, kind of stumbling into a really good quarterback who your offensive coordinator and coach loved in the fourth round, that's the whole list. So all the other times, while I understand you tried to kick the football and it got pulled out from under you, so to speak, you shouldn't, you shouldn't have tried to kick it. You should have saved the good kick for this guy, you know, for this. This is on paper different. This is the Griffin-esque talent and skill set. But right away, again, I hate going this route because I, like Robert, a lot is a guy and I've gotten to know him over the years and think he's a good human being and root for him now in his next career. But it's so different in terms of the coach being on the same page with the player, the players, you know, family and organizational symmetry. Yeah, just the whole thing is different. Like saying all of the things that he does behind the scenes and all of that stuff is it's just good vibes. Everything is positive and moving in the right direction. To your point, by the way, I've gotten three messages, a couple of them on Instagram and one on Twitter @GrandHPaulson from fans since last night on all the platforms saying they had just bought tickets to the Browns game. So I can't wait to see what the stadium's like. I'll be there on Sunday. Let's go to Tony in Long Island. Hey, Tony, how are you? I'm doing fantastic guys. Pinch yourself. Is this real? Oh my God. Ridiculous. It really is ridiculous. I know we're done with game bowls, but I have to give you something, Grant and Danny. I want, I really would love for you guys to start a little segment, an honorary game ball, but every win that we get under Jaden Daniels, please let that game ball go to Greg Zurline of the New York. You know, he missed a field goal. People do not realize how hard it is to kick in that stadium from 50 plus yards. He missed yesterday by 30 feet in the game. So true. Let me clarify real quick for people that forget. So Washington had taken the lead. Jkovie Brissette takes them down the field. This terrible game against the bad jets team. They're going to beat the jets. Everyone who was correct and understood that all that matters is draft positioning and picking as high as possible was livid. Fans that wanted to squeak out a victory so they could high five their buddy then hoped that the defense got to stop. The rest of us hoped like hell, the jets could get in the field goal range. They did because Washington played 20 yards off the line of scrimmage for some reason and then Greg Zurline hit a 15 five yard field goal. 54 yarders time expired. I remember tweeting out his, uh, his charity that he and his wife run. And I think a bunch of people actually made donations to him. Now at the time we had no idea which quarterback. Yeah, we would know idea which quarterback they'd take. Uh, you know, and, and who knows? I mean, they could have picked third, got another quarterback. But the point is Daniels looks amazing and they got him at number two. And listen, and let me say this guys, this is real. This kid is special in every way that he's the total package. This is exactly what we as football fans, whether you're a Washington fan and any, any team, this is why we wake up on Sunday mornings. This is why we root for our teams so we could have a quarterback like this. These hours, we have the best shiny toy in the neighborhood. And he's now a Washington, whatever you want to call it. Um, we're fighting from the high ground with this guy. You feel it. You know, the Cardinal plate calling yesterday, they were on tilt. They felt that they couldn't stop us. And you saw that plate calling get insanely weird. They were running shotgun on fourth and one when they're running from seven yards a carry like you felt by the way, Tony. The things for the judges always, but why did the Cardinals stop running the ball? Now, I'm glad they did. Why did they do that? They had two short yardage opportunities where they threw down the field. They could have run for seven yards. They proved it every time they ran. Did you notice that they just completely stopped running the football before the game got out of hand? I did. When they were down a couple of scores, right? No, this was even it was a 14 seven before the half. They're moving down the, you know, it was like, what are you doing? That fourth in one where Tyler Murray had two wide open receivers, four yards from the line of scrimmage and stared at both of them and then took a terrible sack and Washington got the ball back and made it a great sack. It was so good. Great play. What do you think of him yesterday? That was not good. I mean, he looked lost in the pocket and he had looked. That's, that was like end of Kingsbury, bad juju, sort of Kyle Murray where everything was a struggle. He'd been playing pretty damn well up until this point. Cliff credit for that too, that he went over to Joe Witz office and told him how to mess with Kyle Murray. I guess, listen, maybe, maybe some emails were exchanged. Maybe a couple of Hey, by the way, a couple of sticky notes on the defensive plan because lost in all this. And we should be talking about the offense and Jay Daniels until we're blue in the face, but defensively, I quite frankly did not think they had that performance in them. Yeah, that was out of nowhere. Again, opening script, opening drive where Arizona has to their credit been spectacular over this season and even in years beyond. So from that point, one touchdown allowed in at a point in time, it didn't matter. I'm going to open up the today is not the day drawer real quick. Okay, I'm going to open this drawer up today is not the day drawer. I'm going to see what's in here. Cliff Kingsbury is looking like a pretty damn good head coach. Whoa, whoa, this is what this is. Why your boy hates hiring defensive mind and head coaches. Not today is not the day, but his agent is starting to put together a little list. It's got a real little list of teams. Do you ever close that drawer up? Okay. Close that drawer right up. All right, close it up. By the way, I hope he goes full Ben Johnson. Just tells people while they're on their way flying out to meet him with a super deep voice, not today. Maybe he just loves Dan Quinn in this culture so much. The Jaden Daniels is his Jared Goff and he just can't quit him. Hopefully it just stays here. The other, you want one more from the, from the drawer, a couple more wins and commanders are going to start sticking a little more. Damn it. I knew it. People have a churping on that one. Commander Danny. Never. First of all, and Grant Beltway blitz is next. Jay Gruden at five on the fan. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] In one hour when Jay Gruden joins the show for his Monday appointment, we're giving away cap tickets right here on Grant and Danny. Make sure you're listening at five o'clock. We'll take you up to six 30 on the fan. Forget the NFC East standings. How about the conference standings? They are awesome dudes who get it, right? They understand it's not the most fun thing in the world that to do. And they make it as pain free as possible. We'll cover the commanders and the NFL and the blitz. We start on the diamond. The voice of nationals baseball since day one back in DC is Charlie Slows, who alongside Dave Jaggler in the broadcast booth yesterday, put the finishing touches on yet another season of nationals baseball. Charlie, I guess, broad brush here, but how would you describe the 2024 campaign? It's, you know, it's really interesting because there were a lot of good things. I think the improvement in the starting pitching, the young pitching, two pitchers who weren't there when the season started in Mitchell Parker was up quickly because of the injury to Josiah Gray and then DJ hers, when Trevor Williams went down at the end of May. Progression of Jake Urban was terrific in the first half. Maybe leveled off, maybe fatigue late in the year. I think, you know, those are the positives. And then I think really feel good about number one, Mackenzie Gore, with the way he finished the year. I mean, he pitched in his last, particularly his last three or four, but really his last seven starts the way you hoped he would come out of the gate this year. And if that's what he's going to be, now you saw number one, ace type stuff. So I'm really feeling good about the starting pitching door for over next year. You know, position player wise, we kind of knew they were going to struggle with score runs. You know, they hoped they would get more offense and a little more long ball than they did. If then you're transitioning to the young players in wooden crews coming up in the, you know, the second half of the year and more to come. And, you know, Mike Rizzo's talked about now what they need to add. Obviously, he realizes they need a run producing back somewhere where it's a first baseman, a designated hitter, a full-time D.H. or a guy can play, can do both. Those are the, those are the big needs to take that next step forward. The young players progress, the young pitchers progress and the bullpen is good again. You know, you've got a chance to really move forward. Charlie, what's your biggest unanswered question going forward? You kind of reverence it there. I'll give you mine, for example, you can copy it or pick one on your own. Where's Kate Kavali? And I feel like we didn't hear anything. Why didn't we hear anything? He was supposed to come back at some point and that never happened. That's my biggest unanswered question. What's yours? Well, yeah, he, you know, I think he, you know, he was ill in the middle of the year and suffered a dead arm stage and not everybody comes back at the same pace. You know, I think they really thought he was going to, you know, initially he was going to pitch in the second half of the year. And so, you know, he didn't, they hope he's 100% healthy and that he physically feels like he's ready to let it go next year with, with no restrictions and then no qualms about it. But now that he hasn't pitched all year and he missed all of the previous year, I mean, Davey made that statement yesterday. They're going to have to be careful with innings on how much he is able to move forward, how much you can count on him for next year. Charlie, last we saw of CJ Abrams at Wrigley Field, he's playing, went over, we find out he gets sent down. The team never confirmed why, but we know it's because he was out all night and then went straight to the game and they didn't like that very much. When he shows back up, it's obviously going to be a big story, it's spring training. But do you think that there's any kind of lingering effects or is it just kind of clean slate, fresh start, big year for him come spring training? Well, that's what you're open for. I mean, obviously they, they were sending him a message about how they would like their players to conduct themselves and, and that, you know, in this day and age, you know, where you are is always visible to anyone who has a camera and a mobile device that can be put on the internet almost instantly. And so I mean, you have to be real careful about, you know, perception and that kind of thing. So hopefully it isn't a lingering thing and, you know, he's ready to go from day one and you know, message delivered and, you know, he can come out of the gate next year like he did this year where he showed so much improvement initially defensively and offensively because he's an electric player when he's on his game. Charlie, thank you as always. Hopefully get some well deserved going on, buddy. I'm starting right now. Love it. Thank you. My friend. Be well. Hi guys. Hit that NFL sounder, please, Dares. Our pal Nate Davis is going to talk about the NFL with us right now. Nate, let's start with last night Baltimore, a resounding win over Buffalo. What does that mean for both teams? Yeah, Danny, I think you meant more for the Ravens. I think it just kind of shows that they, they're really finding a way to incorporate Derrick Henry in there and that that offense is really just a Swiss army knife that can attack you in several different ways. And I think, you know, I think the rest of the league was kind of put on notice last night and that this team may really be ready to take off. The Chiefs are four and oh, but they're an unimpressive four and oh, if they're such a thing and they lost Rishi Rice yesterday. Now, all they do is win and we know they can flip a switch, come to playoffs, but my home's has not been himself, Kelsey has not been himself, how do you feel about Kansas City? Yeah, I mean, I think, I think they're, they're number one until they're knocked off grand. But I mean, like you're saying, it's a very precarious perch, you know, the average margin of victory, I think is the five points, you know, they had been some good teams in there, but they've also, you know, not looked like necessarily a team that's, that's on the verge of as a three PD or, you know, we'll see if they end up replacing Rishi Rice or if they think they can take care of that internally. I think the thing we lose sight of is that this really kind of has been a defensive driven team for the last, you know, season plus. So, you know, there certainly counts chiefs out, it's, it's a apparel, but, you know, I think, I think it's pretty easy to look at some of these other teams like the Ravens and think that, you know, maybe they, they have a better shot winning this whole thing. I know it ended up being only a two point win that, but, you know, for those of us that were mad, I'm sure, I don't know who Matt is, Nate, who we're watching most of it. Because that was, because I'm like, when I was about Minnesota and I put the M in front of it, I don't know who, but I don't know how I got to Matt. Anyway, Nate, I'm terribly sorry about that. You are Nate. I'll end up being a two point W, but Minnesota was dominant for most of that game before Green Bay's kind of furious comeback, Minnesota to me has been the most impressive kind of given where my expectations were for them before the season, your thoughts on them. You can answer as you or Matt. Yeah, it was kind of like a replay of the Alabama Georgia game with a 28, nothing lead, you know. Give them their credit, right? I mean, they're four and oh, I mean, they're, they're, they're, those are legit wins. You know, the 49ers and the, the Packers among that group blew out the Giants. So, I mean, I mean, the Vikings are, you know, they're, they're not frauds. I mean, it doesn't, you know, I'm not ready to fully buy in and say that there's some real contenders, but I think this is a tribute to Kevin O'Connell, his coaching staff, Brian Flores on the defensive side and, you know, we've seen that they kind of unlocked Sam Darnell here, which is probably going to lead an interesting debate after the season. But yeah, I mean, I, I thought, I saw the team and I thought they were kind of a last place team by default because I thought the rest of the clubs and that, that very good division were, were better, but I'm really curious to see how far they can sustain this. I mean, they're, they're tough on both sides of the ball and, you know, they're, they're showing they can hang in there and Darnell can keep this up. Second time in as many weeks, Nate, we've got two Monday night football games, the Titans and the Dolphins in the AFC tonight at 730 and then about 45 minutes after that, the Seahawks trying to get to four and oh, if they could surprise the Lions in Detroit, are your thoughts on tonight's slate? Well, I'll be watching one of those. I guess I'll have the other one on the, on the second TV on mute kind of monitor it, but I'm really looking forward to that Detroit game. I mean, when these teams get together, it's usually a show, I think the last three meetings between the Seahawks and the Lions, the average score has been 45 to 35. So it should be fun. I mean, I'm curious to see, you know, kind of because it's the first real division one game for the Seahawks, so I'm curious to kind of see how they hold up on the road against, you know, a team that we all think is probably, you know, Super Bowl contender, at least on the NFC side. So looking forward to that, I asked the other one, you know, just, you know, I don't know how we'll take away the Titans or the Dolphins when both those teams having having so many problems right now. But, you know, they also provide a really entertaining game on Monday night football last year. That tends to come back. So, you know, again, I felt you could grow at something that you don't expect, but that definitely afforded the one in Detroit much more tonight. Nate when asked you about bears, they're two and two, which kind of belies what's been going on. They shouldn't have won a week one. They got bailed out by some bad. We'll love a sing. But Kelly Williams hasn't really looked great just yet. I think it's way too early to start asking questions. My question is, when is it okay? When is it on time for us to say, Hey, wait a minute, how sure are we? Yeah, you know, I've got, I've got, I've got, I've got the Bayless Lewis and colleagues. I mean, I, I don't think that there's any reason to be major concern. I mean, two and two is kind of what I thought the bears would be at this point. And I also thought that maybe they started turning a bit of corn yesterday. I mean, I thought yesterday was kind of the, to follow, you know, Kelly Williams was a lot more efficient yesterday than they had their games. VP is increasing the volume, getting more experience in the past, the game, but they all got the out of his foot going. I mean, he had like 165 yards total yesterday, which was more than he had the entire season to my at that point. So I think they're kind of a lot of certain aspects, although they're roster, which we all thought was a pretty good going into the year. And I think this is one of the things really going to have to, like, lean on his defense to really be driving the force of this game and the complimentary office with Caleb and let him kind of grown in his job. But I still think they're capable of getting A-9 wins, maybe that wild car sponsor at the end of the year. I'm a third nade on hold. Thank you for us, Ryan. His phone's breaking up. Nate Davis, USA today. Let's talk commanders. Nick Akridge, PFF helps us to do that. Nick, it wasn't a Bengals game, obviously, I don't know that we'll see another one of those for a while by anybody, but another ultra efficient performance for Jaden Daniels yesterday. Yeah. I mean, he is just, he's not looking like a rookie four games into his career. That's for sure. Yeah. You know, he's just answering any question people had, you know, pre draft and in questions that I had, you know, kind of doing my scouting process and he didn't answer them in four weeks. It's pretty incredible. Why? There's so many ways I could ask this, Nick, but at the end of the day, I'm wondering, how was I so wrong or how was so many people so wrong sort of doubting Cliff Kingsbury? Now, this is a third of the way through the season, not even and teams make adjustments, they'll figure stuff out. But through four games, guys are open. Whatever they want to do, they're able to do pretty much. How is this happening and how would the, how would defenses seem so off guard? Yeah. I mean, I think the biggest thing here is the run game that they're using in it. And I don't, I don't think all of that credit will go to Cliff Kingsbury. I mean, I think that they've done a great job as an offensive staff, you know, kind of using the screens that we've talked so much about with Cliff Kingsbury and that run game to really kind of set stuff up in the past and that run game has been so unique. It's been, it's just so well kind of drawn up where you're getting, you know, Jaden goes out in space, you're kidding Brian Robinson in space and it's just been, it's just been incredible watch. But like you said, you know, teams are going to adjust and it's kind of up to Cliff now to kind of, you know, keep adjusting his own plan so that, you know, defenses unprepared. But right now he's been pretty much flawless. When you guys at PFF put together the grades for this game, who stands out, who were some of the highest graded players on the team? Yeah. The big ones were the two linebackers. Lubu had a 90.3 Bobby Wagner with an 87 and they were just flying everywhere. They played so well together. Frankie Lubu had that force fumbled, but yeah, it's been a long time since linebackers kind of had our defensive grades here for Washington, but they really stood out. It feels like Alan and Payne had their biggest games, you know, maybe something stuff that you guys noticed and other games have stood out, but for the rubes like me, counting stats were there that they were wreaking some havoc in this one. Yeah. From a pass rushing standpoint, they were much better. You know, Jonathan Allen looked like he'd been getting a little bit, you know, back to what we've seen from him in the past, but in the run game, they were still kind of struggling a bit, just kind of not really holding up their gaps, losing too much ground. So it's been a little bit rough from them in terms of, you know, the running game, but it was nice to kind of see that pass rush really, you know, start to impact the quarterback. This thing, they got the Browns on tap next thoughts. I mean, the Browns don't look great. The Sean Watson has been, you know, somewhat unlucky. He's greater, really well with us. There was a pick yesterday that was right in the Mario Cooper's hands and he dropped it that turned into interception, but their offensive line is kind of struggled. I think it's going to be, you know, early in the season before we kind of, you know, got to the last two weeks and the last two wins, it was going to be one that I thought they would kind of struggle with, but you know, you kind of think that they might be favors in that game and look to go to four and one. So I'm pretty excited to see what they do again on offense. But yeah, I think they should be favored in that game. Nick, thank you. It's always brother over here. We have. You guys have a good one. Snick acreage of PFF on Grant and Danny here on the fan. What impressed you most about this team over the last week and let's take inventory on the field for Jayden Daniels, who has been absolutely lights out, looks nothing like a youngster. Tonight, I thought it was really cool to see burgundy and gold in the crowd, behind our bench, and to see that here in Arizona to show up. I felt their presence, and so that was really cool. From the team standpoint, I thought a couple of things. First, I thought it was an important road trip. A lot of sacrifice to go out to Cincinnati Monday night, way from their families to do that. We wanted to make sure that was worth it. That sacrifice worked really hard during the week, getting us ready for this game. They got a number of talented players. I thought the guys coming in late on a Tuesday really put the work in. Last piece, I thought tonight, an example of like complimentary football. Again, why that's so big? First drive down, scoring for us to go answer a big deal. We had an interception. The defense went to go three and out stop. I thought those were the things that I felt, that complimentary ball that I talk about a lot. Last piece, I thought just a quick shout out to the big guys. That was Dan Quinn from yesterday. Welcome back, Grant and Danny on the fan. Just looking through his transcript from talking to the media today. Sounds like Michael Phelps addressed the team out in Arizona. The Olympic gold medalist. That's pretty cool. And champion. I'll read a quick snippet here from his opening statement today. He said, "I thought regarding the trip in the game Saturday morning, we heard a really important message about sacrifice." You heard him say sacrifice a few times there. It was actually from USA Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, who was absolutely a one-of-one competitor. Being on the road for eight days, that's sacrifice. And the sacrifice also leads to a lot of connection on the team. It looks like a whole bunch of things on the field. It looked like Dorins Armstrong competing until the clock hit zero. Alameda is a keyist. The crazy support he had on the sideline for his teammates. And same thing with Jeremy McNichols and the sideline going crazy for special teams tackles for guys like Ben Sennett, Colson Yankoff and Mike Davis. That Stan Quinn to me is like the pointing out of, he uses the word brotherhood all the time. To me, that's where he just loves the game, loves football. He gets so steamed up to know that all those guys are jumping around on the sideline and actually tweeted a video today at Grand H. Paulson of a play that I thought was fantastic defensively, where Frankie Louvoo just goes on a collision course mission. Blows up a blocker. The next guy to blow up another blocker. This is on a wide run around the edge. Coming flying in was Emmanuel Forbes. And he did it the way he's got to do it at 160 pounds. Like Louvoo, I'm taking you down. We're both on down. Forbes basically just went low, dove at somebody's legs. Yeah, body block style. And kind of cut it back inbound, literally diving at someone's feet. But then the tackle, Jeremy Chin came in and destroyed the bulk area. And it was all near the sideline and the sideline went crazy. But if you watch it in real time, it's beautiful. It's like a, it's like a symphony. It's like, bam collision, Louvoo. Bam, cut it back in Forbes. Boom, big time hit by Chin. And the sideline goes crazy. To me, that's Dan Quinn's brotherhood bit. You know what I'm saying? Like that's the whole deal right there. It reminds me of, of, go back to the Greg Williams era here playing defense, right, where everyone does their responsibility quickly and violently and good results happen on defense. That's what it's supposed to look like, right? Danny, the way they play is not for everybody. No. No, no, especially the first three games. But that's not important, Joe. The fourth game. Huh? Arrow trending upwards, big time. That's for me. The way that we live is not for everybody. Okay. It's not. All right. Because we're going to run and put our bodies on people in a violent manner. This game you did. Yeah. Week one was certainly not for me. Week two and three, it ain't not that great either. But week four. Oh, there was some of that stuff in there. Week four was for me. Yeah, I was in. Week one through three, you can have those. Yeah. Nothing's ever been said truer than a defensive coordinator telling you the way we play is not for everybody. No. Because the ball is life. Mm. Two takeaways in four games. Let's start living. I want to live a little. L-I-V-I-N. Let's go. Now, here's the good news. Uh-huh. Ball is life for that offense, too. Yes. That's best in the national football. So you're winning the turnover battle, but not the way you'd expect. The Frankie Louvoo play was awesome. Yes, it was. By the way, stick aside. That's a ball is life play. That is a nothing burger moment. You're up by eight thousand. The Cardinals are doing the run out the clock bit. They're just checking it down a bunch of completion, second half of the game. Louvoo is just a dog running from the other side of the formation. The receivers kind of being held up and he just rips the ball out of his hands because he wanted it more. That was awesome. One thing I noticed, no one's going to care about this. Everyone's going to tell me to just go eat a cookie and that's fine. But I know he has not done much yet and I'm not trying to pretend like he has. When you watch Johnny Newton chase down plays on the all 22, I get so steamed up. Do you care about that kind of thing at all? Go eat a cookie. I'm kidding. Uh-huh. I do. Stick aside. I actually do care. His first suit? Yes. It's almost comical. It is what you, it's teach tape. He doesn't make the play necessarily at the end of the play. But watch him run goes past for like 22 yards. He just turns and holds ass the other direction. Like every single play he's out there. He is just full sprint, 322 pounds, wherever he is, just hauling it. Yeah, treated as a hockey shift. I love that. I'm all about it. I'm out here. You're getting everything I got. Bits aside. It is a, either, this is the thing I've always argued, where it comes to, you know, small stuff that you think has nothing to do with games, seven months later. Like guys skipping OTAs and people defending them or whatever, either things matter or they don't. And if you're on the field, how many reps do you get? Everyone could be your last moment and not to be flipping about it, but the game takes things away from you. It is violent. It is scary. So what you do is you maximize every possible second. If you've got 10 plays, they better be the best 10 plays of your life. And either things matter, all of them, or sometimes that's okay. Well, this was not the big deal. You treat everything with them, with import and you're, yeah, the results up at the end, I'll take my chances. It's how you get the commander tag, Danny. Remember, he got the commander tag. He did before the draft. Yeah. Maybe it'll be a different name tag soon. There's a video that came out that the team put out of them talking about Johnny Newton on draft. John it. Like this is what we want to be. Everything we want to be. I've got to imagine that's part of what they're talking about. It's just a hundred percent hustle. Every single snap. I mean, it is borderline funny. He looks like like Forrest Gump just arms, pump and running after every single play. Now, ideally, there's going to be more plays that are around the line of scrimmage than when they get stopped. So he's not turning and burning. I'm not noticing him as much, but it's the same thing like if it's a run to the other side or something, he's, he just, he gives you what he's got. He's empty in the tank. And I like that from the big fella. How good is this football team? We will go on the record with our thoughts. Next, we'll get yours as well on Grant and Danny on the fan. [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] It's great when you count on others and they count on you. That way, victory is produced by everybody, all right? And that's what tonight was, man, fast physical. We said anybody, anywhere, any month in time. So we did what we came to do, all right? So there'll be a number of game balls that will be issued out. I'm sure tomorrow, but there's one more, there ain't leaving this city without one. [APPLAUSE] What a glow up for Cliff Kingsbury. My hand is up, it's not my left hand, although my left hand up. >> No, what you do that? >> Did not see this one coming. >> I was rolling. >> Cliffy Kingsbury, dialing it up. J. Gruden was outstanding, joined us at the top of the hour if you missed that at five o'clock. On Kingsbury and what he's doing so well, he's got a great game plan. He's mixing in the run in the past. He does a lot of different run concepts, pulling guards, pinning in defensive ends, pulling tackles, and then the zone reads and the RPO is off of that. He's doing a good job keeping the defense off balance. You cannot underscore enough, and this is not to take credit away from him or anybody else, but they've been ahead of the chains. They really haven't had to deal with much adversity because they're executing nearly perfectly. So when first and 10 becomes second and four, and second and four becomes third and two, or a first down, life is pretty good. Cliff Kingsbury, so far, gotta be the assistant coach of the year in the NFL. Has to be. >> To this point, right? I mean, you think about what the offense has been or hasn't been, and to be more direct, in years here. Years, even with, you know, great pedorees, guys come from Andy Reed's tree. Guys come from the, you know, this sort of old school West Coast offense tree, everything in between. This is phenomenal. This is like best in the league type offense type stuff with, frankly, a sort of piece together offensive line with a, with, you know, one holdover that nobody really wanted, one holdover that's good. >> Alameda is a key in the way, and a group of misfit toys as receivers. A guy that was cut at the end of training camp as probably their number two option at this point. So what? A tight end that catches and falls from Arizona. The number three passing offense in the league, number one on third down, they're converting 54% of third down. >> And it feels, that feels like it's low. >> I totally agree with you. It's because when they don't get it on third, they get it on fourth generally. That's the main reason. >> Yeah, yeah. That's a bummer. >> They are number three running the football. They're number two in scoring. They're number one in points per drive. They are fifth overall in yards and fourth in total offense and yards per play. They're number two in terms of being most difficult to get three in out. They don't turn the ball over the number one in that stat. And they are number one in offense of EPA in total, 67.5 points or score on the EPA. Let's go to the phones, 800, 636, 10067. The question is, how good do you think this team is? Danny, your answer? >> Good. Like legitimately good. Like not talking about elite, best of the best Super Bowl type stuff. Nobody's going there. Maybe some people are. >> We're good. >> Like 10 wins playoff. Good. >> That is where they are. >> It is on the table. >> It was not for me. Even, I'd say two weeks ago. It is now. >> Two weeks ago. How about eight days ago? I was joking about this before you got here. The Monday night game was seven days ago today. Exactly seven days ago, we were about to pack up at Thumbs Watch Ball in Cincinnati thinking we were going over to get walloped and watch them get embarrassed. >> And that opening ceremony, whatever you call it, at the Bengals Stadium at Paycore. >> That's true. >> Days ago, two hours from now, right before a kickoff, Danny looked at me and goes, they're going to get curb stomped so loudly and I couldn't hear him because he was right next to me. You remember that, Daris? You were with us. >> It was so loud and crazy. >> Danny said, and I quote, "They're going to get curb stomped." >> I did say mud stomped, but that's either here or there. >> Sorry. >> Well, don't you apologize to me. The thought was that's what it was. I mean, it was like, who can survive this? This desperate team with an MVP candidate a quarterback, like this, they need this one so bad. >> Well, at that point, they played the first game of the season where they were terrible against the Bucks, maybe the worst team in the league. And then the next week, they played a bad half against the Giants and a pretty good half. So we saw one good half of football from Jaden Daniels in the offense, one good half of football really from Kingsbury or anybody at that point. I don't blame you, but Daris, he looked at us and he said they're going to get mud stomped. >> I mean, following all that energy that we felt in that stadium, I kind of understood it. >> And then what proceeded it was, or what followed it was a long mom to the Jamar Chase. So it looked grim. >> Three of the easiest plays ever. I called the Jamar Chase touchdown, by the way, I go look at it, touchdown, Jamar Chase. Single covered. I could make that throw. I couldn't. But like that was obvious. And they're down 7-0. Just like this week, by the way, ho hum, sorry about it. Watch this. >> Return to the 40, easy 55-yard drive, throwing against their 7-0 Cardinals. The bottom's about to fall out. No it's not. >> No it. >> How does Superman go? >> Thank you. >> Who's Superman though? Is it Jaden or Cliff? Both put on their cape. They both came out of the phone booth. Flying around. Let's go to Vick and Akkeke. What's up Vick? >> What's up brothers? >> Hey dude. So, this is a playoff football team. Say it, remember the day, September 30th, no it's September 30th because the mall is my anniversary. That's how I went around the field. >> There you go. Happy anniversary. >> All right. 13 years, right? >> Let's go. >> Let's go. >> Thank you, great. So, this is playoff football team. Anything that I will be disappointed. The reason this is a playoff football team, because coaching, there's coaching and culture matters. So, culture is different, doing things right and getting better as you do things like. The offensive line was being shaky, anxious, we were worried, we were fearful at best. The offensive line is one of the best playing, he weren't playing. Oh, guys, that's something to prove. The culture that's something to prove and the offensive line is something to prove and they're proving it. And I'll leave with this. What I also love is that Jonathan Allen and the Ron Payne were bitched for a series at a half yesterday, because they were not controlling their gaps. As soon as we put madness, and I think it was Johnny Newton in, not only were the gaps controlled, but we started adding the leverage to our different from end to end. We were sitting in the gaps, we were making tackles and we were making tackles in the back field. And coaching matters when you hold people accountable, and you make people do their jobs to get a pay of millions of dollars for. And when they were held accountable, when they got back in, they started competing and playing like they are supposed to play. Leading people in the back field, leading their linebackers because the linebackers in the D-line will marry each other through the through their gaps and meeting in the back field. That's what happens when coaching and accountability is spread throughout your organization. I don't feel more but and I'm thinking to. All right. Well, thank you. I appreciate you. Thank you. I did not notice those guys get benched. I will say now their percentage of plays on the field was much lower, but I did not notice them getting benched in the football game at any point, I wasn't specifically looking for it. I know they came off the field a couple of times. I remember seeing it's a rotational position. So it's possible that on one of the three and outs, let's say they weren't on the field and he's counting that as a drive. I'm not sure I'd have to go back and really dive in on that before I confirm or deny those allegations. I'll tell you they both played better as the game went on and I'll tell you that Allen and Payne were both more disruptive from a pass rushing standpoint yesterday than they have been earlier in the season. They still got major issues in the run game. The long like 20 plus yard run in the second half, which I didn't mind because they were down by a million. So the commanders are probably like, hey, if you're going to run it, you can have it. Enjoy it. But that was with Mathis and Newton in there, but I did like the day we're keeping those guys fresh. And it Allen in like 58% of snaps or something, 60% pain, a little over 60%. Those guys were at 75, 80% of snaps a couple of years ago. Yeah. Even higher in some weeks. You're up by four touchdowns. Go ahead and give them a put their feet up a little bit. Kevin Arlington. You're on G&D. What's up, bro? Hey, guys. So I've been thinking about the historic numbers, right? And this is how I want to answer this question about how good we can be historically. This is the best September we've had since '91. '91 is the best season I believe the franchise has ever had. Now, I'm not putting those expectations on, but let me say a couple of things. There's something else that's historic. Last time we had a number one draft at quarterback with this kind of upside, he was in Texas. His name was Sammy Bond, '37. And Sammy's responsible for two of the five world championships the organizations have. We haven't had a prospect like this in Sammy Revolution, I had to forecast, and Jamie, I'm Jamie. Jamie looks like he's an adult coming out of a lap. I mean, honestly, God, if you took the best of current quarterbacks in the homes and the best of Lamar Jackson, you get James. So here's where I was wrong, because I thought the ceiling was 9 and 8. We stayed healthy. James, who we think he is in the defense wasn't a target. I was worried about the past coverage, but I was also worried about the offensive line. And guys, I was wrongly calling tomato cans. Okay. So what though, Jeff? I'll say this for you. Thank you, buddy. And the secondary is still a problem. That didn't really change yesterday. Number one. Number two, they haven't stopped the run in the defense while it was better for a game. I think got bailed out a little bit by some play calling. And it's a lot easier when you're playing with a big lead too. Team gets one dimensional. You know they're throwing the football. So let's see what happens if you're in a close game like they were against Cincinnati when they couldn't get off the field. There's still a lot to be determined. In fact, that's something worth pivoting to next, like what questions do you still have? Do you have any nerves about areas of this ball club at three and one? Browns are coming to town could be a pretty entertaining game and should be an outstanding atmosphere over at Northwest North Stadium West Stadium listening to the fan.
