Living Roots Wine & Co. is a winery in both the Finger Lakes Region of New York (Hammondsport, Keuka Lake, Steuben County) and the Adelaide Hills region of South Australia. “Sixth generation winemaker and Adelaide native Sebastian and Rochester native Colleen Hardy make wines with regional and varietal expression, minimal inputs, and maximum quality. A new Tasting Room debuted one year ago with an incredible view of Keuka Lake and is located on the family’s Shale Creek Vineyard with an urban Tasting Room in Rochester.” Proprietress Colleen Hardy joins us to uncork all that is Living Roots Wine & Co.

“Love & Salt in Manhattan Beach is a story that begins with Cafe Pierre, a restaurant birthed by Guy Gabriele in 1977 to bring a taste of France to Los Angeles’ South Bay. While Cafe Pierre was a beloved part of the community for nearly 37 years, in 2014, Guy and his daughter Sylvie Gabriele, now the owner of Love & Salt, closed the restaurant to bring new life to the iconic space.” Executive Chef Chris Feldmeier (ex- Bar Moruno) has just returned to Love & Salt to oversee the menu. It’s full circle as he was previously cooking there in 2018. Chef Chris is one of the noteworthy chefs (25 different high-profile chefs for each night) for the upcoming Manhattan Beach Food & Wine Festival in Manhattan Village set for the evenings of Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th. We reel in Chef Chris from his busy kitchens to join us.

“The Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA) brings back its always anticipated Tastemakers of Orange County fundraising event on Thursday, October 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. More than two dozen local chefs will celebrate the Asian and Pacific Islander community and culture by providing guests the opportunity to indulge in one-of-a-kind Asian and Pacific Island-inspired tapas dishes in an all-you-can-eat setting. Proceeds from tickets sold for this event go to support OCAPICA's numerous programs and services in mental health and health, youth development, housing assistance, policy education and combating anti-Asian racism.” More than two dozen area celebrity chefs will be participating ranging from Executive Chef Rich Mead of Farmhouse at Rogers Garden to Chef/Restauranteur Amar Santana of Vaca. OCAPICA’s Board Chair, Sora Park Tanjasiri, and participating chef & baker Tarit Tanjasiri of Crema Cafe (Seal Beach) and Crema Artisan Bakers (Irvine) join us with all the enticing details.

Our own Chef Andrew Gruel, the menu-maker behind the full-service Calico Fish House (in the Sunset Beach area of Huntington Beach) provides another timely and informative “Ask the Chef” segment where he responds to listeners’ thoughtful inquiries. First, finishing the discussion of the cost of health care as it relates to Federal Income Taxes from last week. From there New York state is proposing the elimination of coal fired and wood fired pizza ovens. Are these really a major contributor to air pollution? Pizzaiolo Chef Andrew hand-stretches the dough on this one.

All of this and heaping helpings of extra deliciousness on this week’s not-to-miss show!

Good morning Southern California and welcome if your food obsessed you've come to the right place. Join us for the next two hours and you won't go away hungry. One of the first American culinary icons Julia Child said people who love to eat are always the best people. We agree. Live from the AMA 30K LAA studios at Angel Stadium and Anaheim, The SoCal Restaurant Show is on the air. And welcome back. It is The SoCal Restaurant Show and happily we're here with you every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until 12 noon right here on AMA 30K LAA the home of Angels Baseball 2024 and believe it or not it is the final weekend of the baseball season for the halos. Fan appreciation night tonight so there's some going to be some good goodies dispensed and it's the second game in a three game set against the Texas Rangers and the halos are hoping to even up the series tonight. But again this is the final weekend. You can also always catch us on the AMA 30K LAA Angels app. Easy way to tune in. I'm Andy Harris, the executive producer and co-host to the show. Glad to have you out there. We do appreciate you sharing part of your Saturday mornings with us. Please do keep it up. Also happy to say that we have Tony back in technical excellence with us this morning after a couple week hiatus. I think he found some better opportunities out there but we are glad to have him back. My colleague Chef Andrew Grull of his various restaurant empires particularly Calico seafood which is in the Sunset Beach area of Huntington Beach on Pacific Coast Highway. We'll be joining us a little later in the show with his usual Ask the Chef segment and this morning we're going to have a little fun. I mean we generally always do have fun with Chef Andrew getting the benefit of his expertise as a professional chef and a restaurateur with a lot of years of experience particularly with an excellence in seafood. But he also is quite knowledgeable about all areas of pizza. I grew up in New Jersey but the state of New York is added again. There are still a few legacy pizza restaurants in and around New York City that make their pizza bake their pizza in coal fired ovens. Yes coal fired. Chef Andrew will explain to us about why that's so special but the unfortunate part about this is is there some legislation that may be taking effect soon in New York State which will outlaw wood fired and coal burning pizza ovens and honestly ladies and gentlemen that would be a tragedy if it happens. But we will be talking about it a little later in the show. To keep up with us on social medium what we try to do there is connect Saturdays give you a little added pros but also the visuals particularly on Facebook or Instagram. We think we do a pretty good job painting a word portrait every week of the restaurants and menu items we talk about gourmet specialty food products too but having that added visual of still pictures and video just gives it an added dimension and if you're not hungry by the time we finish here at noon every Saturday morning we're not doing our job. So websites easy it's so cal restaurant show.com Facebook is so cal restaurant show. Send us a tweet or an X or whatever it is and many of you still do at so cal restaurant and as we love to say for the very best and provocative food imagery Instagram to at so cal restaurant show and if you actually look at our Facebook feed right now you will see a little video of this incredible French pastry chef who now during the day at Mr. T in Hollywood is doing his whole panorama of French pastries that are available for breakfast and lunch along with their specialty coffees. I mean his croissants are out of this world but that's not the only thing he does and he has his own some very own special selections to and this is a journeyman French pastry chef who now happens to reside in Los Angeles among his credits in Paris are fashion so again this guy definitely know his way around the pastry kitchen so be looking there full show today is is always we're gonna kind of be out and about but it is starting the fall food festival season most of which are benefiting worthy charities and we always like to highlight those when we can so we're gonna be talking about a couple this morning one that I always look forward to every year that generally is in October he is put on by Ocapeka that is the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance this is a benefit for them but it is called tastemakers of Orange County it's happening Thursday October 10th in the evening at the Plaza at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and Costa Mesa and it's a particularly wonderful event because all the chefs that are there really understand what the cause is and want to be there and have fun and in general most of the restaurants that are represented there their executive chef or owner is there so you can have a chance to interact with them and you know chefs are competitive animals if you didn't really know and even though it's all very friendly a tastemakers of Orange County each chef is looking to while the guests with what their taste is so again that is a tastemakers of Orange County coming up Thursday October 10th and we'll be talking with one of the participating chefs as well as the executive director for Ocapeka that being the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance hard to say without taking a breath there but we start out in the Finger Lakes which I was delighted to be at for about seven days earlier this month for the annual convention of the International Food Wine and Travel Writers Association kind of a full immersion in the food and wine of the Finger Lakes which is really a wonderful emerging wine region the distill quite rural which you know that really impresses particularly coming from Southern California these days where there's very little open space left and even little farming and definitely not a lot of grape vines and they tend to be in the Finger Lakes clustered around the network of lakes they have there particularly Cucalake and Seneca Lake so we'll be chatting with the proprietress of Living Roots Wine and Company which their address is Hammond Sport but they are right on Cucalake in Steuben County in the Finger Lakes and what's so special about them is is not only is it a state wine but with the husband and wife team she grew up in Rochester he grew up in Adelaide Hills South Australia so they have wines both from the Finger Lakes and from Adelaide Hills South Australia very unusual combination it's the two plus two equals five wonderful people will have a chance to meet Colleen Hardy who just you know in terms of her knowledge and personality that was a great experience visiting their winery twice then we will be chatting with no stranger to the SoCal restaurant show Chris Feldmeyer Chris is now back is the executive chef at Love Unsalt in Manhattan Beach and he is one of the 50 chefs that's participating in the upcoming Manhattan Beach Food and Wine Festival that's on the evenings of October 11th and October 12th at Manhattan Village and will be catching up with Chris wonderful chef and wonderful food so as always a lot on our plate this morning that's the way we like it it is the SoCal restaurant show when we return Living Roots Wine and Company Cucalake Finger Lakes were proudly presented by Melissa's World Variety produce and West Coast Prime Meats give us a minute we'll be back
