(upbeat music) - Good morning, Chicago, and welcome in to the Captain Jay good morning show. Howdy, yes, been 1000, and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. For David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you, we've got Shane, we've got Jay Moore, and we've got you. Here on this Tuesday morning, thanks so much for being with us. 312332 ESPN, 33237, seven six star phone number. Watch the show on YouTube, youtube.com, a free ESPN Chicago there, as well as on Twitch, twitch.tv/ESP1000Chicago. Cap, the chairman of the board for the Chicago White Sox, Jerry Reinsor, wrote a letter to White Sox fans. And I read it, and of course, I'm thinking about my partner, thinking about David Kaplan. First guy that pops in my head, and there's a reason, is because Cap has been saying for years now, that when your team grossly under achieves, let me just, 'cause I was gonna say it under achieves, and that's not right, when it grossly under achieves, when you are a playoff team several years ago, and you get to be the worst team in the modern era, arguably the worst team we've ever seen in Chicago sports, you deserve all the slings and arrows, you deserve all the criticism and the garbage at your feet, you deserve it. Because of where you were a couple of years ago at La Russa to where you are right now, the very worst, Jerry Reinsor from the Jesse and Buster piece, from the Rosenthal piece from the Athletic, tells you all you need to know about the Chicago White Sox. We know one thing about Jerry loves his baseball nostalgia, you love nostalgia, here's something nostalgic, who's the worst team in the modern era? You make people forget about the Cleveland spiders based on what we saw this past season. You're the worst. Cap, we've seen it all in this city, you and I, and all the fans. We have, we've seen it all. We've seen underachievement, we've seen bad teams, we've seen teams that had no shot to win. This is the very worst. We just, you can't turn a blind eye to it. We can't glaze over, Sox are bad this year, how it's gonna happen next year. No, we need to just wallow in this for a second. Because my partner said, when you are this bad, you must apologize and make a statement to the fans. Jerry, at this age, maybe not to wear a thaw to be able to stand up and be able to read all this and from the press. But he did write the letter. Some of it, saying that by all measures, our on-field performance this season was a failure. As a leader of this organization, this is my ultimate responsibility. There are no excuses. I'll take that in the first paragraph. I'll take that. There are no excuses. Fair, fair. But as I've said to you, I would never let my team look like that. Never, never. And for him to go to the podium last August, with the core we've got, I expect a much better year. Much better turned into 121 losses. 121 losses is unconscionable. Taking a step back, okay. Then your GM comes out and says, yeah, I don't expect this to be very active in free agency. What? Why would you say that? Like, they keep stepping in it time and time again. Chris gets. I thought we'd probably lose 100, 105, 110. But 120? No, I never saw that. Really? Who says that in an open mic? Correct. It's just awful. Awful. But that's what it happens when you don't have a search for a GM. You do not talk to some of the brightest minds in the game and just get their opinions. Just get their opinions. How when the Bears picked Shane Waldron? Maybe he'll be good. I don't know. They interviewed Cliff Kingsbury 'cause he worked with Caleb. And he understood that. They talked to a number of people. What do you think of Caleb Williams? Because they wanted intel. That's what good organizations do. How would Tom Ricketts hired Theo? He talked to Billy Bean. He ran in a conference room in Oakland and met him out there and spent like four hours and told Billy at the start. I'm not considering you for the job and I know you're not interested. You're happy where you're at. But I need to know what I don't know. You gotta help me here. And Billy said I'd be glad to and gave him a ton of intel. That's what smart people do. They talk to people that know more than they do about a particular situation. How about the White Sox? No, and it's embarrassing. It's pathetic. And the fact that he put a letter out, I'm not gonna waste everyone's time reading this word salad out there. How about going to a microphone? What's the other drop we have? I'm not gonna take any questions. Yeah. No, how about taking questions? It's just, it's sad that people like you, my brother, I have so many good friends, my buddy, Guff, that are die-hard fans. And the loyalty is not shown to the fan base. The loyalty is only shown to the people in his inner sanctum that worked for him. That's great quality. Be great to your employees. How about the people that you're asking to spend their hard-earned money, their time, put their heart into their team? No, F off to the show. You can't say that you're a baseball fan and then run your organization like this. As he says in a statement, whether it's set out loud or in a written statement, words are easy. I understand that we need to show progress through action. And I commit to you that everyone associated with the White Sox is focused on returning this organization to the level of success that we all expect and desire. And above everything else, I'm a fan of baseball, of Chicago and the White Sox. Every loss this season, every blown save, every defensive miscue, every shutout, every sweep hurt. It was a long painful season for us all. We recognize that on a daily basis, that it's our responsibility to earn your trust, attention to time and support. We vow to take that approach daily as we put the work in this offseason to be better. Well, congratulations, Jerry. The general manager already told you that you're not gonna be better. He already told you. He already told the fan base in mid September to check on a get better. So congratulations to Jerry Reinsor for the White Sox. You're the worst team. And it's not getting better anytime soon, Cap. I want you to think about White Sox baseball. What's not? It's just not. You called that one four or five months ago, at least, when you said 2032. That's about when they keep possibly, if they hit everything, get this turn around. And a few friends of mine went, 2032, it's 2024. I said, they're not gonna spend in free agency. They don't have the number one pick for being as pathetic as they are. They're picking 10th. Their system doesn't have any stars in it. - No. - I'm already hearing from somebody in the organization on the baseball side. - He said, yeah, Colson Montgomery is not very good. - Yep, heard the same thing. - That's their top guy. - Doesn't mean it won't turn around. We're just talking about right now. This is what it's being said. - They're down on him. - Yeah, and but you get it, right? - Yeah. - It's not hyperbole cap. And can I just put an asterisk next to that statement I made four or five months ago? Unless there's an ownership change. - That's different. - Yes, unless there's an ownership change because as is, this is good enough. How is it that the concessions, the beer, and the food, and the milkshake, and the great seats, and all of the great times that you have, the world class service at guaranteed rate field, all these things are part of the White Sox experience. And the 10th most important thing about the White Sox is the ball club. - You're correct. - Everything else around it, as far as the fundamentals of the kids, all the everything else that comes with going to guaranteed rate. And then the first pitch happens. Oh God. The other nine things are great. I'm with friends and family. We're BSN, or we out there in the parking lot tailgating. All these things are happening, Cap. - Did we not have fun the other day when we were there? - Yes. - We had a good time. Now we were with friends. We laughed. You got a milkshake. We had fun. And then I went and sat for the last inning and a half down in the seats. And I sat with my friends from NBC Sports Chicago. And we're sitting down there. There was a cool buzz. People were excited. Flexin' got an ovation 'cause he pitched his tail off. And they won. They beat the Tigers. - So, no, it was the Angels. - Who was it? - It was the Angels. We swept the Angels. - Yeah, and it was, we had a good time. But to put that fan base, we're now going forward. Anytime you see that hat, oh, that's a losing it's team in the history of the sport and modern era. - That's right. That's a joke. Cool hat, losing franchise. - Correct. - But, Cap, you gotta understand from a Dr. Bruce standpoint. - That's my brother. - A Ryan McGuffie standpoint, my brother. Just understand, Cap, that all of us as White Sox fans, calm my White Sox brother. - Black. - Neller. - Just understand how embarrassing this is. Embarrassing, it's beyond anger. It's just like you go to the ballpark and you expect to lose because that's the part they put out there. This is a lesson for everybody that watched the Chicago sport and anything else. Look at the roster. Look at the stars. If your roster doesn't have stars on it, then maybe you're gonna underachieve. Maybe you're gonna lose 100 plus ball games, but we should've known in March. Shea said it, but Shea's always says it, right? Like, look at that roster. They're gonna lose 100 games. He should know, he's seen the Tigers. He knows what a lineup looks like when they didn't have stars on it to be able to get over the hump. So, the whole point is, is that when you saw a Nikki Lopez, where you weren't even sure who's going to be the number one star, all this stuff, you just kinda knew, Cap, that this was done. Hey, a fall, that is just amazing. A fall from Grace from a couple of years ago to this. I know he wrote that letter. I know I'm sure that he had some thoughts, some actual thoughts in this letter that he wrote, you know, Jerry Rhinesdorf. But I want him to feel it. I want him to swim in it. I want him to choke on that. That you're part of the worst team that we've ever seen Chicago sports and one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball. Definitely in the modern era. I want him to feel that. It's one thing to be a millionaire. I got money and I've got this and I got that. But there's nothing like being a winner when you're in that spot. There's nothing like it. You can have a generational wealth. But if you don't have a ring or if you're not a someone when you walk through the doors, people look at and say, oh my God, there's a winner right there. I gotta talk to Jerry. We need to have dinner. We need to talk, what owner wants to talk to him? Who wants to talk to him as far as the winnings concerned about making money, sure, but what owner? Especially new owners. Come in, it's like, Jerry, can we just have a dinner? I just want to know how do you get your organization so great at a championship level every year? How do you do that? Nobody's asking him that. No, he comes in dusty. Like when he comes in and people probably respect how long he's been in baseball, been in sports cap. But again, as far as someone like the Braves or the Padres or the new Mets owner, who's stepping in and saying, hey, Jerry, can I see you for a minute? Could you tell me how you keep a championship level? No one will ever do that again, Cap. No one's going to have dinner with him, talking about how to get a ball club to championship level. It'll never happen. Bulls or White Sox, this is it. That's your legacy? You want to go off this earth like that? Yeah, the sad thing will be because he's a good person. The sad thing will be that he will end up leaving Chicago whenever that day is 10 years from now. Whatever. Whatever that is, a pariah. He will be a pariah to the fan base. There will be people, if they ever hear God forbid that he died, that will be happy. Oh, I'm getting my team back now. Like who wants to go out that way? Look, Jett is speaking at 11 o'clock this morning. That would be interesting. Very. And then tomorrow we'll have Jesse on to review and talk about it. Cup fans, and I mean, I'm right there with all of them. Like I interact with hundreds of them. They're furious. The Giants fired Farhan Zadi yesterday. They had a baseball ops. The Cardinals are making a change where Kaim Bloom is now going to be running things with Moselach as a consultant. And the Cubs are going to run the same group back out. And Jett's a good guy. But the Cup fans are furious and they won 83 games. It's not good enough. The White Sox won, what, 39? 41. 41. 41. I mean, they finished 40 games behind the Cubs. Same old, same old. Not going to spend it free agency. Chris has a plan. Love to know what that plan is. Oh, there's no plan out 35th and Beck. There's no plan. Plan. There's no plan you're talking about there. There's no play. He told you in mid September what the plan is. We're going to run it back. I mean, well, guys, we don't even know not hot in the farm system, not hot in the streets. Just guys. Hi, it's Don Fletcher. You listen to ESPN 1000. Don Fletcher, you're part of the future? Really? Come on, Cap. It's a it's a joke. It's an absolute joke. So those there that were surprised that I said that about the White Sox in the future. Don't be so surprised. 'Cause what's your future right now? So I just want to make sure I want to check that box. 'Cause I didn't want Jerry Reiser off to slip that letter past all Sox fans. Well, we're just, you know, just into the bears. I saw it. You saw it. I just want to address it. It sucks. (laughing) - Don Fletcher is going to be 28 next April. - He's five foot six. (laughing) He's the future. - Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. - He had a robust 234 with three bombs and 31 knocked in. Down Fletcher. - And they prop up this starting road to eight. You know what? We're pretty good. You had flex and cannon crush it. Yeah, but they got to throw shutouts every game around this offense. Shutouts. Just saying it's not right. No, it's not right. - The end for NBC Sports Chicago, next on Captain Jay Hood. - Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN1000. Cap and Jay Hood are back on ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. - Captain Jay Hood on ESPN1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With you till 10 o'clock, and then Mike Greenberg comes in at 10, followed by Carmen Iurko at 12, Waddland-Silvia at 2.30, and to Bluck in the Dollar at 6.30. Harbor Broadcast Day, right here on ESPN1000 and on the ESPN Chicago app. So NBC Sports Chicago is sunsetted. That's hard to believe, Cap. - Yeah. Josh Rock, the bear's a reporter. Good dude. - Yeah. - He sent out a tweet this morning and it kind of took my breath away 'cause it was such a big part of my life for so long. And it was a screenshot of the guide and it just said, NBC Sports Chicago, this channel is no longer available. - I saw it. - And it's like, what? Like, it's not like they don't have the games, but they're still programming. It just, they shot it off. - Yeah, they sunset the channel. - Is that the term? - Yeah. It's something, Cap. - Married to a TV executive. (laughing) - Yes. - That's what exactly, right. You think I used that over the years, Cap? - I've never used that term. - But Cap, it's too dramatic to say it's jarring because you know how this business is. - Correct. - We went from Disney to good karma. And so we've seen, you know, I worked at one point for CBS Radio. I have checks stubbed from CBS Radio in my career back in the day, things change in the business. But my God, man, just like Sports Center on ESPN or just like your favorite news channel and NBC Sports Chicago, you just turned it on when you got off of work. You're turning it on, Cap's on there. There's a game on there. And to see that NBC Sports Chicago Plus are just gone. - Gone, it's just, that's amazing. How does that make you feel after all the years that you worked there? - It's sad because of the people that worked there and how hard and how talented they were. And for the Chuck Garfines and the Pat Boyles and everybody that you saw on camera, there was a billion people behind them that without them, the channel doesn't get on the air. I mean, like I went to the going away party Sunday night and it was great to give hugs to a lot of people that I spent 15 years with, that I love. They're great, great people, great. And some are going on to the news station. Others have said they don't wanna be part of the news station. Others have said they're gonna retire. I saw one of my great producers. He said, yeah, I'm retiring. - What? - Wow, yeah, he's in his early 50s. He's like, yeah, we don't have kids. We've saved our money. My wife's gonna work whatever 'til she gets her vested. And he goes, we're just gonna travel and enjoy life. God bless, man. God bless 'cause the hours were tough at times, but the work, it was not work. It was amazing, amazing to be on the ice with Pat Boyles and he's hosting his post-game show after the Hawks won multiple Stanley Cups. It was unbelievable. And then to cover the Cubs, to be there, November 2nd, 2016, to be there with Hollinsworth, the night the Cubs won the pennant. Going to the World Series for the first time at 71 years, and they clinched over Clayton Kershaw, and it was, we did a four-hour post-game show. I mean, it was like amazing stuff, amazing. And to see them turn that channel off, sad, not unexpected, we knew it was coming. I just hope that the people that allowed us the honor and the privilege to come into their home, understand how many people put their heart and soul into it every single day. I just sat in a chair and did what I do, the real heavy lifting, that crew over there. They were amazing. - They're behind the scenes with the cameras and the production and make it at home, right? - Yeah. - And the producers and the crew and the people on the cameras and Linda and Brendan and Steve and Eric, and I don't want to leave any of Jeff. - And all these people that just kept busting their ass every single day. Yeah. - That's just, that's amazing. Now, as an XFINITY person, an XFINITY family, the new channel is not popped up yet. It's not available. - Right, they start, the new channel starts today at five o'clock. And as of right now, I don't get it. - I don't either. - 'Cause I'm XFINITY. - As am I. - And up in our home in Wisconsin, I have YouTube and it's not on there either yet. So I wish them all great success. They've hired some really cool people. - Let's get the Bulls and Hawks on before the regular season, please. - Yes. - I don't want to be like some of these markets where our friends are in like, hadn't seen a nuggets game because of their issues there with root sports or in the past, Dodger Games not being available for everybody. - Dude, Vince Scully told me- - Yeah. - I said, "How much of Dodger baseball are you watching?" 'Cause he was retiring. - Yeah. - He's like, "I don't get the games at my house." - What? - You're Vince Scully. - He said, "Yeah, my cable system doesn't have a deal with the Dodgers." - Pathetic. - Well, here's hoping with my fingers and toes and corns crossed that they'll find a way because this was also the issue at Marquis when it first came about. People wonder, "Can I get market?" And of course, that was not the big splash that it was that it turns into now. But at the beginning, it's like, "Do I get Marquis? "How can I get Marquis? "Can I get it in Iowa?" All this stuff, right? And so my hope is that they could find a way to get it 'cause it's the winter season now, Cap. The fall and winter season. We gotta see the bulls and the Blackhawks. - Correct, I won't watch the games. - I just, you know, I just... This one is hard for me to get past. After today's show, it will be, but just, I saw the same thing that your friends saw going through the guide and realizing that the channel's no longer gonna be there. And I know one can't grieve forever and time moves on, but that was a destination. To watch Cap in the evening, being able to talk to legends, talk to current sports legends and players and coaches and all that, you doing it from Wrigley, you did it from guaranteed rate, United Center. Man, that was the show. Your show was the show. You had to find out what was going on. And then you had this rotation of guest. I was on that show several times. I was not asked back after I said, Jay Cutler would never be a Chicago bear wanting right at Dan Pompey. And Cap said, "That'll be all for this kid." Ow, wow. (laughing) All that same couch. Dan, I know that you're plugged in. But there's no way, the camera right there, no way that their bears are gonna get Jay Cutler. They're not invested. Well, I've been hearing, I don't care what you've been hearing. Never asked back. But that's funny. But something else I thought was interesting, 'cause I was watching toward the end of the channel. Some setting. NBC Sports Chicago did a great job of the parades. Because there was sports guys on there. It wasn't just the news person saying, "Oh, the Cubs won the World Series." I'd sound, but no context. You were just there for the party. - Correct. - NBC Sports Chicago with context. Because sports guys and sports ladies are talking about the sports. What the parade means. Socks parade they showed. Hawks parades they showed. All the celebration cups were, because you went there, 'cause you put on a, and that's gonna guess the other people, but a lot of times as you will know with news, they put the news people out there to cover the parades. Like, you haven't covered it all year. Where are the sports people covering the sports event? So, that's why it was always Just Nation TV. - Yep, and unfortunately, the channel has been stricken from the guide. - Yep. - Stricken from the record, as they like to say in court. - So, sales away indeed, NBC Sports Chicago. And I'd like to also point out that some of the highlights of NBC Sports Chicago, showing the parades of the black hawks and the cubs and the white socks, are not in the replay. Perhaps coverage of the Chicago Sky Championship. Not replayed. Oh God. - Oh God. - I had to host them. - I do recall. Caps coverage not there. - Can you come in and front the sky coverage of the parade? - What? - I'll be there. - Damn. - Great day for the Chicago sky. Kendall? - Yeah, man. So, Candice Parker. Yep. Sky win the championship. Kendall. (laughing) - He hasn't been watching all year. And now just standing over the Kendall deal. - That lady right there. That's Kalia Kofer. - I know Candice Parker. - I watched it. Caps never said. - Last. - He said, it's great for the city. Great day. Have a championship. Kendall. (laughing) And also, I remember. Cap. Right there on Chicago Tribune Live. Always a treat on Fridays, because he'd get you ready for the weekend. And of course, there's always racing coverage there. Auto racing. And Joliet. - Yep. - You'd have your guys, Scott. - Show Joe to 6'30, 6'28. - Here's Scott Patek. - Scott Patek is with us here. Scott, tell us what's going on in Joliet. And of course, that's when you start seeing the names. Go across the screen. - Credit. - I'm gonna have a great time here. All right, Scott. See you next week. Take that. It's all on. (laughing) It's always at the end, 6'28. Just as the show is ending. - Scott's with us. Tell us about the racing. All right. Goodbye. (laughing) Gotta go. Play that time. Sorry, Scott. Take that. - He's the best. (laughing) - So. - And I had my share of run-ins. Matt Forte. - Oh, yeah? - We went at it. - Mm-hmm. - I got into it with Brooklyn Decker. The swimsuit model. Tony Stewart. The car, NASCAR driver. - Yes. - He's a jag. And who else did it? Oh, they wanted me to interview. This is funny. What's the name of the flying tomato? Sean White. - Is that his name? - Yes. - Sarah Lauk, who I love. Sarah calls me and goes, hey, we can get the flying tomato on him. I'm like, who? The flying tomato. I said, who the hell is that? Sean White. Isn't he a... - He's a Olympian. - Yeah, but what was his event? - I don't remember. - Was he like a snowboarder? - I think so. - X-gamer, was he? Go ahead. - He's a star. And I said, I'm not interviewing that guy. No one cares. She's like, cap, he's huge. You gotta have him on. I fought it for three hours. No shots, Sarah Lauk. I'm not having that dude on. Nobody cares. They finally go, you gotta have him. Okay, here's how I started the interview. Oh my goodness, what a pleasure. One of my all-time favorites. Dude, I gotta be your biggest fan. Sean White, the flying tomato joins us here on NBC Sports Chicago. And in my ear, Sarah Lauk, that is F being BS. You don't even know who you're interviewing right now. Wow, I'm doing the interview. - Yeah. - The half pipe snowboarder, Sean White. - There you have it. - Yeah. - Ah, man. And also, Captain, I had a chance to meet Mike Tyson. - I did. - Mm-hmm. - That was amazing. He came in, never met the man in my life. I said, Mike, anything that you don't want to touch at. We just vibed. He goes, brother, you asked me anything you want. We start talking. He's, I said, you look great. You're in great shape. He said, I've lost 80 pounds. You have? Pulls out his iPhone. He starts showing me pictures of him, 300 and whatever pounds. And now he's down to like 219 for a fight. And we start talking and his people commit. Mike, we gotta go. No, I'm talking to my friend. He just met me. Then we did an interview in the green room like for digital. And at the end of it, he's trying to bite my ear. I have that picture. It's the greatest that we go out on the set. And I asked him some like deep questions of jail and all of this stuff. We got done. He just take myself. You come to Vegas. Let's go to dinner. I like you. He's walking out his, he's probably 50 feet behind us. His agent says, he's two boxing gloves that I bought to get him to sign. One for my brother, one for me sitting on my desk. He goes, Mike can't sign those. Okay. He can only sign Mike Tyson branded gloves. He has an exclusive deal. I said, no problem. They're sitting there. Tyson gives me another hug and goes, whose boxing gloves are those? I said, all those are mine. We just have them here in the office. He's like, you want me to sign those, right? And his turn, he turns and goes, Mike, you cannot sign those. You know the exclusive category goes F off. Give me the Sharpie. And I have both boxing gloves. Okay. One of my brother. Yes. See? All because of NBC's for Chicago. All of it. See that? All of it. As we say, goodbye to NBC's for Chicago and onto another channel. And by the way, you can get yourself one of those digital antennas and hook it up to your TV. Yeah. Plugged right into like your outlet and then HDMI cable right into the back of your cable box. Or your back of your TV action. Yeah. So that's the deal. Ten bucks. It's a deal for now. Ten bucks. Yeah. So I'm going to probably go get one. Up in Jhood for show. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitch at ESPN 1000 Chicago. Captain Jhood are back on Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago. You are looking live at Satan Lake in Chicago. It's the Captain Jhood morning show on ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Time for a college football. Every week of this time, we give you snorp on here's Shane Orlan Shane. All right. The top 12 teams. What do you I've made an adjustment to the way I'm doing it now that we've flipped the calendar to October. He's going to give I gave him like like a Brett Musburger like quality introduction. And he just rolls right in. No, thank you. Thank you, honey. Like I give him the big chiron, the big, like back in the day of the sports times and college football. You know, but he just rolls in there. No appreciation. You know, it was soils. It's fine. On the announcer front, I will tell you it was great watching Oklahoma Auburn over the weekend. It was Joe Tessator starting the game. He opened it with we've got crimson and cream on the planes. And I'm like, boy, this is exciting. And he said crimson and cream about five times the next five minutes. And I'm like, OK, we've overused the line a bit, Tess. Let's relax. Yep. And the game happened. And was horrible. Yep. I kind of like them both ways. Oh, there you go. Hoodie, I have adjusted how I'm going to rank the 12th team last team last week rather. I had a very difficult time with it. So this week, I didn't even more difficult time and I decided effort. The 12th team will be the group of five team that I expect to make the college football playoff on a week by week basis. This week, the 12th team is the Boise State Broncos, OK, the Ashton Gente in four games has over 850 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns in four games. He's on pace for 2,500 yards and 40 touchdowns. He's going to be in New York, Boise State's 12 Boise State at number 12, you're looking for Boise State cap, check out CBS Sports Network as usually we can find them. Right. Number 11. Utah and Ole Miss fell out of the rankings, by the way, after some really horrible losses. 11's going to be Clemson returning to the top 12. Dabo is out for blood. He wants to win every game by 40 or more. I think that Georgia loss stung in bad and he just wants to beat the brakes off everybody in front of him. This is not last year's Clemson. Remember, they started four and four. This Clemson is not starting slow long term. They lost the opener and they've murdered their opponents since ACC's week. I like Clemson to win it. There's a run the table component that could happen with Clemson. I'm looking forward to the game on November 2nd against Louisville. But I think that Clemson, as I said at the time, Shea, I like their defense against Georgia. It's just that it just collapsed in the second half. They got leaned on. Yeah. So Clemson, 11, 10. 10 is Notre Dame, also returning to the rankings, big top 25 win at home in South Bend over Louisville. NIU loss is in the rear view for now, but Marcus Freeman's job the rest of the way, do not lose another game, because if you do, you're done. How about that cap? Notre Dame, back there in the 10. Yeah, I would not have done there, but that's fine. That's your pump for you. This goes to show how brutal, because cap, I could put the 10th ranked Michigan Wolverines in the top 12 in my power rankings. One problem, they have no pass offense to speak of. Very well could have lost to Minnesota, if not for ridiculous off-sides on an on-site kick. That wasn't even right. And there are road dogs at Washington, who's horrible. How can I possibly put them in the top 12? I didn't ask for Michigan, but Notre Dame, I'm long married. I'll tell you what, 12 team playoff, we're going to have a lot of teams, don't belong there. It's a bi-week and then Stanford on October 12. There you go. All right, number nine, Shay. Number nine's Mizu, nobody won the bi-week like the Tigers, they're short dogs in college station this weekend though, scary spot. Can they do what Notre Dame did? Go in there as road underdogs and win the game. That will very much help the Tigers going down the stretch if they lose. Good night. Apps guy, DrinkWits, setting the waters. My guy. DrinkWits, 4-0. This will be interesting, Shay. I don't know which direction to go with this game against Texas A&M as you laid out. We'll see you as we get close to it. Number eight, Shay. Number eight's going to be Miami with no movement. They survived a very controversial catch call to beat Virginia Tech. Krista Ball avoids a bad result in his first stubbed home moment of the year. Don't have another one. Clemson's coming. If you don't have clear evidence in that spot at the end of the end, at the back of the end zone, Shay, you just have to just kind of call it the way you see it. I mean, that was tough to see whether or not that ball was, is that the fumble? Oh, no, it was at the end zone, was it or was it not a touchdown? That was a question, right? Yeah. In that game. Yes. That was, it was controversial, but Miami comes out on top. Number seven, Shay. Number seven's Penn State going up two spots. The win over Illinois was nowhere near as close as the final score. Penn State had the highest net success rate of all FPS teams last week. That is how successful you were on offense against how successful your opponent was. Penn State had a ton of success. Illinois had almost none. James Franklin, lunatic, fourth down calls in the fourth quarter are the reason that the game didn't look like a blowout at the end. Yeah. So now it's after this is going to be Penn State against UCLA, we're in LA. Um, yeah, so they'll take on UCLA and then thanks to Sean USC, which will be an interesting ball game in Los Angeles on October 12th. All right. Penn State seven, six, Shay, six is Oregon up one. They are continuing to look the part now, just drop the bomb on UCLA who we just mentioned. They get Michigan State on Friday night. My used condom of a football team. They'll have fun with them and toss them in the garbage. Say that. Of course I can. It's my team. Nobody's going to watch some peacock or it'll beat us by 50 and nobody will be watching. It's great. Yeah, we'd hit the dump button. Can't say that. Sure. Of course you can. What? I've heard that used before. All right, wow, as we recycle here. Number five shade number five Tennessee volunteers, up one spot off the bye week. Then we get to the top four. You have a brand Tennessee Tennessee could win the title. Oh, stop, they could say about the Alabama game. I don't want to see that one on the 19 Tennessee, Alabama. Where's that at? That's in kneeling. Oh, let's go roll vaults. Let's go. Roll. Okay. Shae, not roll tide roll vaults. Okay. Isn't that their thing? Go vaults. Yes. Rocking top. Let's go. Shae, you have Tennessee at five. Tennessee at five. And number four Georgia down two spots to number four from number two come back with special but hoodie going down 28 nothing and getting worked by mill row in the first half that that's that's eye opening. I'd like to know what draft analysts were thinking in the first half thinking that Carson Beck was a first rounder and then seeing just a just a terrible performance give him credit though. Your offense came back in the second half. I enjoyed that. It was going to be a uphill climb to beat Alabama and Alabama, but I liked the resolve of the team. They could have just laid down like, okay, we're done, but they came back in the game. So hats off to Georgia, but Alabama still with the championship pedigree. Not a surprise. Have it to me so often as a Georgia fan, I know how good they are. So Georgia at four, number three. Number three is Ohio State. No movement. 18 year old wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is an absolute problem. Two one handed catches on one drive, including a ridiculous one handed touchdown catch with my other sideline kid. You gotta watch this. I did. Oh my God. Yeah. What a. He is insane. Yeah. Number two is Texas down one spot. They pulled away from Mississippi State late, but they did not pass the test the way the new number one team did Alabama. 17 year old receiver Ryan Williams might be even more of a problem than Jeremiah Smith. He's unbelievable. Bama beats Georgia at home survives the comeback proves Caitlin DeBore was the right hire and they are once again the best team in America. If I was Kirby smart, I would have playing on a loop. Two guys in the secondary that cannot stop Ryan Williams from scoring that touchdown. I was just having on a loop the whole time. Look like clowns out there. No one could stop him. No one could tackle him. They were all out of position. I could not believe that. I had never seen that before on that type of level, that type of football game that little spit move was like, oh my God, but two guys can't stop him. Hats off. Hats off. Hats off. All right. That is store palm right here on cap and J. Hood. The cap and J. Hood cut of the day is right around the corner on Chicago's home for sports. It's a bad take. Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN 1000. Cap and J. Hood are back on ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. Out time for the cap and J. Hood cut of the day brought to my Chicago cut steakhouse. It is absolutely spectacular. J board. Yes, it's boring, but it's a sport. Whatever. It's not boring. Okay, then you're bored. All right. You tell me you smoke a joint. You're going to get high. Okay. There's a purpose tool whether it's good or bad. You have a purpose. Sure. What does the cigarette do for you? I don't get it. It's a token like a guy who's never ripped a heater. You just don't understand. I've tasted one like a cigarette and I'm like, this is horrible. Like, I don't get it. You're going to tell people how to butt now? I'm not telling them what to do. It's their walk over by a pack of squares. I don't care. That's all up to them. I just I'd like to know what the attraction is. I've never been a cigarette guy either though, so yeah, I don't get what the attraction of it is. You're getting a buzz off it. Yeah, you do. You get a little buzz right at the start and then you build the tolerance up quickly and before you know it, you're hooked. Yeah. And the buzz is gone. Yeah, cool. But at the start, there is a little buzz. Your clothes smell. Who would want to like I dated a girl? My wife made me quit smoking cigarettes and good for her. She's right. And I kissed her and I'm like, oh, this is horrible. It's like kissing an ashtray. Done. I'm out. Yeah. She was. Shout out no shot in two minutes on Captain Jacob breath and get you all folks. The Captain Jacob cut of the day brought to you by David flam and Matt Moore's Chicago cut steak. I was now more side of the Chicago River simply the best. I got a text from Pete McMurray. The great Pete McMurray. Yes. Pete McMurray. Yes. Radio star legend. He said I was on Sports Talk live with you on NBC Sports Chicago and on the panel with him, Stephen A Smith. We had Steve before he went back to ESPN Fox. Yeah. Yeah. And my buddy Dan Philado was in town. He was his producer and he said, hey, we do me a favorite car on cap show. He's like, I mean, came in and he said on the show, done deal LeBron is going to Miami with Bosch and Wade. I'm like, the Bulls are right in there. He's like, no chance. They came to me. They made the deal at the Beijing Olympics. They've agreed to it. It's done. Don't believe any of the other nonsense out there. And of course he was right. And then Duane Wade came in to be on a show. And I said, why you guys keep putting that story out there that you guys were close on Chicago? He goes, we were. They couldn't get a third slot. I go, Stephen A was in here and told me you guys made that deal in a hotel room in Beijing. He's like, that's not true. I said, Steve said it and it happened. I'm going to bet on Steve that he was right. Crazy. I'll give you one another. Isaiah Thomas came in to promote his line of champagne. And then his people are given the rapid op. We got another interview and as he's getting, all right, all right, Isaiah, thanks for coming in. I guess we got to let you go. You've got other interviews. You've got to go do I said, I shake your hand, but I know your deal. You don't shake hands. He's like, what? I said, yeah, when you are ending something, you don't shake people's hands. Cancel the next interview. You want to do this? Let's go. And he sat there for another 20, 25 minutes going at it about why he wouldn't shake Michael Jordan's hand when the bulls eliminated him. Dude, it was one of the most amazing interviews I've ever been a part of. Right there on NBC Sports, Chicago. What did you say? Cancel the next interview. You want to do this? Let's go. And we went at it. Incredible. Incredible. Twitch is asking a salient question here. Coffee breath or cigarette breath, which is worse. Cigarette breath. Are you sure? Yes. What about the heavy coffee though that someone else, if it's just been down in coffee all day, you could smell it. Heavy breath. Worse. What about before them together? Oh, well. Right. Well, that's usually the combination, right? Right. The coffee and the butt. Correct. Yeah. They have the cup of coffee, usually black coffee with the -- that's how they start today. Oh, God. Well, that healthy lifestyle. Wow. Yes. This is exactly true. Absolutely. Today cap is National Taco Day. Wow. Yes. National Taco Day. So what's perfect for a taco this afternoon or this evening? I'm Ashburger Taco, where you take a thing of ground beef about just a little larger than a golf ball, a little bit larger, but not the size of a baseball, that's too big. Put it into a ball, a little spray, a little olive oil spray on the pan, heat it up, put that in there, and you take a press or you can -- if you don't have a press, you could use the bottom of a bottle, whatever. Put your wrap over the top of it. Press it down so it's flat. I pull the wrap off for a minute. I flip the meat, let it cook just a little more. Put it on the wrap, lettuce and pickles, and you can use mustard and ketchup, or you can buy like a sriracha aioli sauce, a little tomato, wrap it up, smash burger taco. You know how tight it is. Yeah, it's got to be tight. It's got to be tight, right? No. It's got to be. I like it tight. Also, National Fire Pup Day. Eric would be good. He'd have a Dalmatian, he'd have a Dalmatian dog, Fire Pup Day. Awesome. That's a good-looking dog. That is. We thank you for listening and calling in and being part of the program here on Captain J. Hood. Our thanks to Shay and J. Moore. We'll do this tomorrow for a Waddle Wednesday. Let's do it. It's a great day with Tom Waddles in your life. Hey, Dad. From Chicago.
