This is Mule 2, Ears Edition, your daily dose of Alamo Heights Junior School news, updates and needs to know. From the first bell to the last class, Mule 2, Ears Edition, as you covered from ear to ear. Good morning, Mules. I'm James. And I'm Ginger. Today is October 2nd. First up is Spirit Week next week, so be ready. I'm so excited. Me too. Are there any club meetings coming up? Well, Odyssey of the Mind meanings are forming now, and parent and coaches are needed to guide the students to regionals. State and beyond, please get your paperwork to miss Mule room S-104 ASAP. Good to know. Anything else? There is also a science-EIL park practice that will be on Mondays from 4.15 to 4.45 in room 120. If you have any questions, contact miss Mule. Great. Also, NHS will have its first remaining on Friday in the auditorium during advisory. Be sure to get a pass from Miss Mendoza or Miss Silorn before then. And if you have any questions, ask them. And make sure to check your Google Classroom for service hour opportunities. Cool. Anything else going on? U.I.W. is giving away free tickets to any A.A.H.I.S.D. family night on October 12 at 6 PM to the mod at the U.I.W. Cardinals at the special H.I.S.D. She didn't family and staff generously provided by the U.I.W. athletes. The coronavirus prep squad will be performing at halftime. Wow. That's so kind of dumb. I know. We'll be right back after this break. Hey, did you know that this month is Hispanic Heritage Month? No, I didn't. When does it start? Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 16 to October 15. What is Hispanic Heritage Month? Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the cultural heritage of people from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. And those with ancestors from these regions. Are there any famous people of Hispanic descent? Yes, a lot of people, actually. Can you give me some examples? I'm sure you're familiar with Rita Cola, who is Hispanic. I don't remember who she is. Would you mind telling me about her? Yes, Rita Cola was a wonderful Mexican painter. One of her most famous paintings is called the Two Fritas. She sadly passed away on July 13, 1954. Is there anybody else? Eleanor Choa is another person who should be on the list. She was the first Hispanic woman to go to space. She also played the flute while she was in space, which is pretty cool. That's cool. What are some fun facts about Hispanic Heritage Month? Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson when it was a one week event. President Ronald Reagan expanded it to a 30 day period in 1988. Wow, that's so awesome. Thanks for teaching me all this. No problem. I hope you learned something. And we are back. What's the answer to the rest of your days, Rita? Yesterday's riddle is, "What can you keep after giving to somebody?" The answer was, "Your word." I get it now. And today's riddle is, "I shave every day, but my beard stays the same. What am I?" I have no clue. Well, the answer will be revealed on tomorrow's podcast. Have a great day, mules. And don't forget to be amazing. [Music]
