Stories and shows you actually want to listen to. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) - Well, welcome to your weekly calling. My name is Brad, I'm your host and today. We are going to talk about a story that I enjoy because it shows so much fate and I'm all about fate. This story is about Rahab and if you've never heard of Rahab, you're about to hear a little bit about Rahab now. So if you want, you can open your Bible up to Joshua chapter two and we're gonna talk a little bit about Rahab because this story is such a powerful story of obedience. If you don't know Rahab, she's a Canaanite woman and she's a harlot or a prostitute. She's not a reputable woman. She's not someone that society views back then or even today probably as a reputable woman. So Joshua, he's gonna send two spies inside the wall because they wanna know what's going on inside those walls 'cause they're scared, right? These are like, they're scared. They've done all this stuff and then they're gonna send 'em in. So they get in there, the two spies and they go to Rahabs. Now, why would they go to a prostitute's house? It's not for what you think it's for. See, what they did was they went somewhere that had a revolving door so they wouldn't be noticed. Think about the foresight that these two men had. They're like, we're gonna go to a prostitute's house that way. If that way, because she has men coming in and out all hours a day. So these two guys go in with her and they were there hanging out, you know? And in Rahab, it's like, they basically tell Rahab, hey, we need your help. And here comes the important part. Rahab has a choice, right? She has a choice. She can obey them or she can help them, not obey them. She can help them or she can turn them in. And know they'll be murdered. Rahab though, Rahab's an amazing woman because see, she knows what she does is wrong. She doesn't like living as a prostitute. Some of you right now are listening and you're doing a job or you're doing something you don't really like doing. Feel that way at times. Not about my job, I love my job. But there's things I like, why did I do that? I should not have done it. I could do it. Rahab's like, you know what? I'm gonna, I'm gonna trust in God on this. So she says to the man, I'll help you. And you know, she gets them out of the window. Out of the window, windows are important part of women. There's Michael, Michael was dealt with a window, Jezebel with a window. We've got Rahab now with a window, right? And she's letting, she's getting these men to escape. And she says, I want you to show me mercy. Now she has to put all her faith into them, that they're not gonna just go rat her out, right? And they have to put all their faith in her that she's not gonna turn them in. So she says in verse 12, Now promise me by God, I showed you mercy. Now show my family mercy. And give me some tangible proof, a guarantee of life for my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, everyone connected with my family, save our souls from death. Because what these spies are gonna do is, they're gonna send them in, and they're gonna butcher everyone in this town. They're gonna kill them all. And she's saying, when you come into kill, promise me you won't kill my family. Our lives for years said to men. But don't tell anyone our business, when God turns this land over to us, we'll do right by you in loyal mercy. She lowered them out of the window with the rope, because her house was on the city wall. Run for the hill so your pursuers won't find you. Hide out for three days, give your pursuers time to return, then get on your way. The men told her, in order to keep this oath, you made us swear, here's what you must do. Hang this red rope out of the window, which I talked about earlier, window that plays a big part in the story, through which you let us down and gather your entire family with you in your house. Father, mother, brothers and sisters, anyone who goes out the doors of your house into the street and is killed, it's his own fault. We aren't responsible, but for everyone within the house, we take full responsibility. If anyone lays a hand on one of them, it's our fault. But if you tell anyone of our business here, the oath you made us swear, is canceled, we're no longer responsible. She said, if that's what you say, that's the way it is. Instead of them off, they left and she hung the red rope out of the window. The men headed back, they came out of the hills, crossed the river, returned to Joshua, reported all their experiences, they told Joshua, yes, God has given the whole country to us, everyone there is in a state of panic because of us. I love this story, it's so impactful. Because you see this woman who, who, who showed such, such, such fate. And she did that, it, it, it, it's just amazing. She's a prophetic voice. She knows they're gonna occupy that land. But she trusting God. Are you trusting in God today? Are you giving everything you need to God? I tell you, I struggle with that at times. I'll let my mind go in many different places. But I'll tell you what, I want you to think about Ray Ab, in what she was risking, because of fate. Think about Ray Ab, and what she was risking. You see, Ray Ab would go on to be in the lineage of Christ. If you go in Matthew, you'll see the lineage, and you'll see Ray Ab. See, God had plans for Ray Ab. Nothing happens for happenstance, right? Everything happens because God tends for that. Paul would write about Ray Ab in Hebrew. He would say, she's a hero. She's listed amongst the heroes of the Bible. This little prostitute, in her mind she was just a prostitute, played such an impactful role. And would go on to do great. We don't read much more about her. But this story makes an impact for the future. Some of you right now feel like Ray Ab. Feel like life is in and out, in and out, revolving doors. You can stop that door right now. You can stop. You can trust in God. You can have faith. Let's pray. Dear God, I pray for each one listening. I lift them up to you, God. I pray for faith, that we have faith, that we have courage to do what Ray Ab did. In the face of trial, Lord, I pray, God, that we see what you need us to do, because you intend for us to do what is right. And Lord, thank you, God, for each listening. And I pray for this week for them, that they're blessed, that they're lifted up, and that if they're struggling and they're feeling down, that they'll teach you. Thank you, Lord. Amen. My name is Brad, and that was your weekly call. ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪
