And gold over America is coming here tomorrow night presented by Athleida and Aaron, our producer, a graduate of Point Park University. Our next guest is also a Point Park dance grad. I believe Mark Swan, heart joins us who is the writer and producer of this incredible show. Mark, welcome to KDKA. Hi Larry, thanks for having me on. Yeah, our own Aaron is a dancer as well and you've spent your career doing a lot of cool stuff, man, coming out of near Johnstown near Evansburg in a little tiny town. What's the name of your birthplace? Actually, I think it's the village of Vinco, which even sounds tinier. But yeah, it's called the village of Vinco Pennsylvania near Evanburg, Evanburg PA. So how does a guy from the village get to do all this really cool stuff? Good question. I actually started dancing early on, my parents forced me in because when Swan was taking dance classes for the Pittsburgh Steelers, little did they know I wouldn't get any bigger. I wouldn't be playing professional football, but I would carry on a dance career. But that's how I started. I started out taking dance for sports. And so this incredible show and obviously you have so many stars coming, but I have to be honest, Simone Biles, you hear that word people just stop and she is one of the most incredible athletes of all time. Yeah, the goat, right? She's she's one of those. She is the greatest of all time. And you this is kind of a once in a lifetime experience, right? If I'm going to see some see something like that, like I said, we've got, we've got Jordan Childs. We've got Jade Carey, we've got the main team, Bernie Malone, Paul, we've got Frederick. Yeah, to come to the goat, it really is electric when you're in that arena. Mark Paul Rasmussen here. I'm curious to know how this all came together. Yeah. So it was back. Oh, gosh. What was it? The last Olympics, Tokyo Olympics, right for that Olympics, we approached Simone and my producing partner, Lynn Magic Space Entertainment, and Lou and the Dorma. And we approached Simone saying, Hey, we want to do something different because a lot of times you brought in a sea gymnastics meet, and no offense to gymnastics meets, but they can be a little sterile. It feels a little bit like on the doctor's office. All the lights are on. It's a little bit bright in there. And we wanted to say, Hey, you're doing some incredible feats here. We want to treat it. So we pitched to her basically a more pop concert field. We've got big LED screen. We've got theatrical mites. It's going to feel like a Taylor Swift type of concert. And Simone said, let's go. She went out and called some of the athletes that she knew, some of the greatest gymnasts. And we went out and did it with an all female cast. So this time we're going out with the men and the women. And really, it feels like a big rock concert that you'll have music anywhere from Beyonce to ACDC to Len Kravitz to Taylor Swift in the show. So it's a completely different feel with that dancers in the show also. And this is happening tomorrow night at PPG paints. And I would imagine it's a very hot ticket. Yeah, we're doing quite well. But the first go around during COVID time, this time is a much different story. We've sold out, gosh, I think we've sold out eight to 10 arenas. It's looking really great for tomorrow night. I'm super excited to see it with family and friends tomorrow. I think we're at 730. Mark, you said you're going to watch it with family and friends. That means that you'll actually be in the audience instead of backstage? Yeah, yeah, I mean, I normally when I direct shows, I like to say with the first three shows. Like if I'm there any longer than that, then I've done something wrong. I try to stick around and fix it. So I think the first three shows and then came back to Pittsburgh to see it here with my girlfriend. I found myself a meringue girl. And so we're going to see that with her and her family, the Mike News and then my family's coming in from Evansburg and Finkel area. Yeah. What's crazy is Mark's girlfriend, Ally, reached out to me. She's the daughter of Blaine, her dad, and I went to Clarian University together and she goes, "Hey, my dad said, would you be interested to talk to the gentleman who wrote and directed this gold over America?" I'm like, "Yeah." And then I found out, "Yeah." So Mark, it's so cool that you'll have family members here in town tomorrow night. So what time does the show start? The show starts at 7.30, I think doors open probably an hour before that. You can get your ticket master, you can go to goldoveramericatur.com. There's packages there that I think that are, I mean, you can get an indoor for $35. That's what's great. To come see the show, obviously, there's more expensive tickets that are a little closer to the floor. We have a ticket where, if you have kids, they can come down and actually be a part of the show at the very end and come up on stage and they actually get to dance in the very last number. It's a super cool show. If you're a fan of sports, if you're a fan of snow, if you're just a fan of entertainment in general, it's a really cool night out. And you mentioned children in the audience, so that brings up the question for a lot of parents. How long is the performance? Yeah, you've got a 45 minutes first up and then you've got a 20 minute intermission and then you have a 45 minute second action. You're out of there about 9.29, pretty. Yeah, but well worth staying up a little later if the young kids don't mind. My youngest daughter, Emma, a gymnast, her oldest daughter, Georgia, a gymnast. I've spent a lot of time at those gymnastic events and I know what you mean. That one song they play when they're doing the floor routine, that's the same song all the time. I'm glad you're changing. You're changing all the music, Mark. I appreciate that. Yeah, trust me. My dad had to go to a lot of dance competitions when I was a kid. So I try to write shows that I know my dad would like. So you've got a wide range of music and things and I promise you, you will be well. And just to be in front of some of these athletes, you don't realize the skill until you're in front of it and I say it's like for me as a director, it's been like driving a Ferrari. Like these are some incredible, incredible athletes. That's amazing. And just so you know, you're safe here in Pittsburgh. We have a backup artist for you, Aaron Faragoni, our producer, a dancer from Point Park University, just in case. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. And, you know, if you want to jump in there too, Larry, you wouldn't want to see that. No. No. Meantime, please tell me Simone is as nice as she seems in person. She very much is. I think she's at the place to, you know, where she's really, she has nothing left to prove right? So she's very supportive of all the cast. She's the person that you can go to if you need some, you know, if you're feeling those shitters, but really this, this is the show for her that's really just going out to celebrate and she gets to perform, right? So all the pressure is off and you can see it. You can see it down on the floor, but yeah, she is as nice as it is. What do you think she could be? Well, that's great to hear and I had her in the studio here when they did the last tour and she was lovely then and looking her now. It's gold over America tomorrow night of PPG paints and we're so fortunate to have the man who wrote it and producing and directing you do all that stuff. And thanks for taking time, Mark. Appreciate you. Amen. Always like to support the local people who have done well for themselves like you. Enjoy your family, too. Thanks so much, Larry. Thanks for having me. Thanks, Paul. All right.
