Welcome, everybody. Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Tonight Show. You're here. You're making a thing for watching at home. Well, guys, last night here in New York City, Tim Walls and JD Vance faced off in the first and only vice presidential debate. Yep, it was the craziest debate yet. They actually talked about policy. Yeah, this debate turned out to be polite, friendly, and intimate. It was jarring. Basically, people were expecting a horror movie, but instead they got a Hallmark movie. They go, "Are they falling in love? What's happening?" Most people felt that JD Vance had a solid debate. Republicans saw that and were like, "Hey, can we pull a Biden and just go with this guy?" That's right. Most polls found that JD Vance won the debate. However, all those polls were taken out of Sephora. Tim Walls also did well, but people thought he seemed nervous at the start. He felt like the father of the bride who left his speech in the hotel room and just had to wing it. Meanwhile, TV ratings from last night just came in and they were down 12 million viewers from the VP debate in 2020. But keep in mind, 2020 didn't have a brand new episode of Real Housewives of New York, which was awesome. Some more political news. His former President Trump broke a 50-year tradition for presidential candidates after he backed out of his scheduled interview with 60 Minutes because he was worried they'd fact-check him. So if you're keeping track, Trump says he'll stand up to the President of China, but Leslie Stahl is a little too scary. That's right. Trump just backed out of 60 Minutes interview, but I think CBS is trying to lure him back. Check out this opening that's going to air on Sunday. I'm Leslie Stahl. I'm Bill Whitaker. I'm Sean Hannity. You're the Emin the Predegist. I'm Hannibal Lecter. Those stories in more tonight on 60 Minutes. You're the time that they're trying. Well, switching gears to some business news. CBS just announced that they're laying off nearly 3,000 workers in an effort to cut costs. Now every CBS pharmacy will just have a pumpkin bucket filled with pills and the sign is, "Please take one." That's interesting. You guys hear this? California just announced that they're banning sell-by and best-before food labels. Yeah, they prefer everyone to use the more scientific method of going up to your spouse and saying, "Does this smell right to you?" Well, get this, "The Canadian Speed Eater" set a world record by using a paper straw to drink a Capri Sun in 21 seconds. One second of that was drinking. The other 20 was trying to get the straw into the pouch. [ Laughter and applause ] It's impossible. Why? Why? There's other ways to do it. And finally, I saw that Miriam Webster just added new Gen Z phrases like "Touchgrass" and "Nepo Baby" to the dictionary. Although, "Nepo Baby" only got in 'cause it's Dad is famous.
