Bears and Panthers, our coverage starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning and all day. On Sunday, right here on the home of the Bears, ESPN 1000, as the Bears look to go three and two on the season. And Cap, so, you know, what is interesting to me is Caleb Williams as the quarterback for the Chicago Bears and how he is perceived. People believe on one side that Caleb Williams is learning on the job like any number one pick or any rookie, he's learning on the job to try to get to become a better quarterback. On the other side, some look at this and say, you know, he's struggling too much through four games. He's not getting it. And what I would say is that these games coming up, Carolina, Jacksonville, some of the drags of the NFL, there's an opportunity for this office, not just Caleb Williams, but for the offense to really start going here and getting a rhythm as they go into the buy. This is a huge opportunity, huge. First of all, you're playing a team you're better than. There's no doubt about it talent-wise, regardless of what happens Sunday, you're in a better place than they are. That's just the fact. Their number one overall pick, a quarterback's been benched. Some are saying he's done in Carolina. I think the sore man in there absolutely believes Bryce Young is done as a starter in this league. You do not say? - Yeah, I do. - Okay, so that puts the Bears in a different position 'cause we believe Caleb is the guy at this point. Again, that could all change. They're banged up. I think they had 19 guys on their injury report. 19, where the Bears had nine guys listed, and it doesn't look like any of their key guys are gonna miss the game. Keenan Allen's not even on the report anymore. That's awesome. This is a game you have to have. Again, must win that statement thing. Must win means your season's basically over, or is over. Like last night was a must win for the Brewers, and sorry Brewers, see you later. But this is a game you gotta take care of business by hook or by crook, find a way. And it's also, in my opinion, a game that the offense needs to step up. What is your identity? Is your identity what we saw two weeks ago, where you're gonna run a lot of stuff to the outside zone runs? Or is it, hey, we're putting three tight ends. There's Komet, Lewis, Everett. Oh, and that's Doug Kramer in the backfield. We're gonna punch you in the mouth till you stop it. What is that identity? And then could Caleb hit some of the deep throws that he's missed on? It's time to go. It is. It is time for the Chicago Bears, and he's, maybe I'm crazy. I just think that against these opponents, Carolina and Jacksonville, and I'm not trying to skip past Carolina. I'm not doing that, Cap. What I'm saying is that you know where those two teams are in the NFL, in the hierarchy of the NFL. They are struggling. Andy Dalton is a proud veteran quarterback for Carolina, fine. But you know that the Bears have more weaponry, offensively. So the Bears should be able to have not just one drive that we marvel at. Hey, you see that drive in a third court? No, we're talking about multiple drives where they're eating up clock, where Caleb is comfortable, where the offensive line works as an iron gate to be able to protect Caleb Williams, and that way Caleb can be able to connect to his receivers down the field. And I'll say this, and we'd have him talk about this this week, Cap. The offense has to be more than swing passes to De'Andre Swift. Swift is not here to be able to do the job of Roma Dunezay and DJ Moore and Cole Comette. Oh, no, no. It was easy pitching catch because he took the wins, as we say, right in football. He took the, there's a win. A wide open De'Andre Swift five yards away from you. Take that so you can get some run after the catch. But I want him to connect more to Roma Dunezay more than just one reception against the Rams. More than DJ Moore just getting three, more than Kean Allen just getting three. I want him to be able to run the football, but also connect to his receivers. So there's a rhythm there. This is all about rhythm between now and the time that they are done with the Jacksonville Jaguars. I want to see this offense be able to be more than just putting up a zero in the first quarter and then coming alive late. No, no, throughout the game, get that rhythm going. Is there ever going to be perfect? But the point is though, you have to be a competent offense if you really want to be a playoff team around here. Yeah, I don't have problems with the swing passes because I thought that showed incredible growth from Caleb Williams to not force the football down the field and throw like he did where Rome was double covered and he hit him in the right in the chest. But he's got two guys hands there and the ball bounces up picked off in Indy or the interception that he threw on the sideline when he tried to instead of check it down to whoever that is. I'm gonna try and make a play here on the lap. That's long gone. He's lucky he wasn't a pick six but they lost the football game. So I don't have a problem when he checks it down because DeAndre Swift's really good in space. I don't remember at Georgia if he was, you would if he was that good in space catching the football. I know he was a really good running back at Georgia. But again, there's a big difference having five all-American five stars at Georgia and all-American tight end and all-American quarterback, another all-American running back who's your backup and you're playing at Vanderbilt. That's different. All I'm telling you is that what I saw in the Rams game from DeAndre Swift, all the all-purpose yards, the seven receptions, the 16 carries, that's fine. But that can't be commonplace for the Chicago Bears offense. It has to be part of it. But what I'm saying is that as I just said, I don't mind him taking the wins. However, it has to be more than that for this offense. It's got to be able to run the football. That's paramount. That's number one. It's not my opinion. That's Ebert Flus' opinion. It's not our opinion. It's like he says you got to run the football. However, these weapons were put in place to do something more than just block down field. That's all I'm saying. And as we move forward throughout the season, I expect Caleb Williams to be more and more comfortable with all his weapons. - Well, great. - I mean, you've got, I know that it was Chris Long because we played it yesterday. Chris Long thinks, oh, making fun of the Bears saying, oh, you know, they have all these weapons. You know, they has more weapons than any rookie should ever have. No, yeah, they do have all those weapons and they will be utilized. As far as I could tell, he's making it seem like, well, it's all these weapons and all, you know, the Bears are supposed to be, you know, four no at this point. It takes time. But I expect for the next couple of games, maybe I'm crazy, for Caleb Williams to really come out and have a better game than he had against the Rams, better game than he had to his whole NFL season, his own NFL career. That's what I expect. - Yeah, he's got to continue to develop. Got to continue to develop. Look, at the end of the year, if this team is eight nine, I think there's a coaching change coming. Like, I think he has to win nine or more football games to keep his gig. And I think that's entirely fair. That's not me being a hater. That's not me trash talk in Eberfluze. I think that's fair. Skit paid millions of dollars. He's a great defensive coordinator, outstanding at his job. And they've given him the talent to execute his defense to the best of their ability. But if this team does not get where we think they should get, at least show progress to nine or more wins, look, you're in a great division. Great. I still think there's regression coming from Minnesota. I do. But we live in this first take world. - Oh my God, Jayden Daniels is a better player. - Okay. - You want that opinion, have at it. - It's four games. - Can we stop? - You know what I want, Cap? I just want for the Chicago Bears to have exciting games like we saw last night on Thursday Night Football. That kind of thing. Where you put the quarterback puts a team on his back. You know, this whole MVB thing that we talked about with, you know, on our five burning questions is starting to permeate throughout the station. I'm going to be on with Pat, the designer, talking about that same topic later on today about most valuable bear. Where we're scratching and clawing and we're just like him and in harm. Like, who's the cornerstone? Who's the most valuable bear? Is it Brisker? Is it, you know, Jalen Johnson? Is it, the whole thing is that it should be Caleb at some point, the most valuable bear. It's not now, but at some point, hopefully he will be the most valuable bear. - No question. - We could point at him. It's like, that's the guy. That's the guy that makes this whole thing work. - No doubt, but it's not going to happen after four games. - I'm sure. - In my opinion. - You know what I'm saying? - Yeah. - At some point. - Totally agree. - Yeah. - And then you have to spend significant capital upgrade your offensive line when we get to the off season. Like, I'd like to say, I don't know how to look up who is the best offensive lineman that's going to be a free agent. And then you got three picks in the top 50. Carolina's second, your second, and your first. I want two of those on offensive lineman. I'm always big on take the best player on the board. So maybe it's a defensive lineman. You need help there as well. But I want the best freaking guys on the board. And hopefully it fills a need that I have. - I'm just excited about Sunday. I'm excited about the future of the Chicago Bears team. - I'm excited for every game we get to watch. - I'm excited. And the reason why I'm excited is because looking at this defense for years, we've said, defense is going to be fine. Defense is going to be opportunistic. Defense will be able to get a pick six. And again, we're blessed with such a great secondary cap. But I'm excited about in the rumbling of what the offense could be. - Yeah. - All I've ever asked for is a Bears fan is balanced. That's all I've ever asked for is balance. And to get into the tournament, to be in the mix in the playoffs. That's all I've ever asked for. - Consistently though. - Yeah. - It is. - As a Mark Silverman pop-up. - Yes. That's what I've been looking forward to. And when I watch other games, I go, you know what? I think that the Bears offense could be as good as, like what we saw last night, crazy offense on both sides with Atlanta and Tampa. That's what I get excited about is about the future. And I don't mean the future like in a couple of years or my 20, 32 White Sox. I'm talking about like the future this season. To my this year, game after game where Caleb is getting better incrementally, every game, there's a lead throw. Every game, there's a touchdown comes out of nowhere. Every game, the running game is working. That's the hope. That's the hope. - Totally agree. - So, let's see. We'll see where this whole thing goes. You can only get to one and all this week. And then they're gonna leave. I think early Tuesday morning, maybe late Monday night, they're gonna get on that jet and head to London. You wanna get to London three and two. By hook or by crook, by dominant or whatever, you better be three and two. - Moving Shane Waldron aside, moving the offensive line aside, moving the weapons aside, let's just focus in and hone in on Caleb Williams, the quarterback of the Chicago Bears. Bears fans and Shayla's over the phone lines, three, one, two, three, two ESPN, three, three, two, three, seven, seven, six, right now through the first four games, based on what you've seen. Again, he's a number one pick. He's gonna be the quarterback for the Bears for quite some time. Thumbs up, thumbs down, thumbs in the middle when it comes to Caleb Williams as a quarterback of the Chicago Bears. As you're driving along or listening to the show, you already have an opinion. Let's hear it. We'll hear from Shane Waldron, the offensive coordinator for the Bears and your phone calls as we move forward here, as we get ready for the Bears in the Carolina Panthers. One thing for sure is that you wish that you could be able to bottle that kind of enthusiasm in those moments through 162, but you just can't. He's given the Mets a three to two lead. They all pour out of the dugout. Lanzo on his way to home plate, they're waiting for him. He hits the plate, he is first congratulated by Nimmo. Hug by Lindor, there are a dozen Mets waiting for him outside the dugout. Peter Lanzo keeps this fairytale season going with the fairytale swing of his career, three to two New York. How he rose on the Mets' right work. That's one of the best calls I've ever heard. Now that's, you know what that is, that's a Mets fan. That's a Mets fan, that's a Mets fan that's been there forever. And I want a fan in, like, your socks guy. When Hawk was going on, like, that was a socks guy. Yeah. Like, it bothered me when they beat the Cubs, like, whoever hit the homer, I want a fan of my teams in that booth. Like, I know that Joni acts a Bears fan. Yeah. Like, I get excited. It's a Hall of Fame call there by Howie Rose. He's awesome. And then-- Well, New York. Oh, god. Down, they did it. And the crew will have it in. Uh-oh. So long, you. Back to the boat. 3-1-2-3-3-2-ESPS, 3-3-2-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our phone number. As we talk to you about the Bears, let's go to Royal, who's in Oak Park. He was the first one to call us on Cap and Jay Hood. All right, Royal, good morning. Good morning, hello. What's up? Rick. Royal. What's up? I've been a long-term pal. I used to call you when you were on TV. You always call me Royal Flush. That's right, my guy Flush. What's going on, man? Listen, man, look, I love you guys. I just wanted to make a point this morning. We always-- we talk about the real problem, which I feel is the coach. But we were in a close game that we should have warned. And we sort of forget about it. I think that Coach missed on offensive rhyming, but he best way he didn't hire a coach when he was getting catered. Because for the three years that even Flush has been there, if you watch the game, he's always our coach. It seemed like he's still learning on the job. I mean, I think he had great defensive coordinator. We need to accept that. I think we need to cut our losses, whether we make the playoffs or not. Because when you watch these other teams around the league and Atlanta and Tampa Bay going up and down the field, well, Coach C, Mooney looked like somebody we didn't even know. But they've never used them right here. I mean, I think it's just time that we get a coach, like you said, about the Cubs. They need it mad to get them to the World Series. I don't see even Flush taking the barriers to a Super Bowl. Well, this is what I was saying in the off-season, Royal, is that I think that if you upgrade your wide receiver position, you're trying to upgrade other positions on the field. Why don't you upgrade the head coach? But Ryan Pulse feels strongly about Matt Eber Flush. And here's the thing. You may get your wish. If the Bears underachieve, you may get your wish. I thought it should have been a year early. But here's where we are right now. So you have to move forward. So he did not extend him. So as much as I agree with your premise, that Ryan Pulse feels a certain way about Matt Eber Flush. Matt Eber Flush has one year left on his deal after this season. You cannot tell me that if this team goes 7 to 10, 8, 9, or even 9 and 8, the offense doesn't look like it should look by the end of the year. You cannot tell me that he's not going to make a change. Because then you start to come at your standing. Hey, man, OK, you put all these pieces in place. It's something's not working here. What is it? I would think that unless they have a really good year-- I'm not telling you I'm going to win a Super Bowl or get to the NFC title game-- they've got to win significant number of games. Or I think there will be a change. I think that's fair. Matt would tell you that. Yeah, I think that's fair. It's fair enough. It's about results, man. I mean, this is not tiddly winks or preschool. It's about business. Look, David Ross won 83 games. Get up. Right? Yeah. Ricky Renteria was there with the Cubs. Not the Sox, with the Cubs. That thing started to turn north in 2014. The last seven, eight weeks, you're like, well, that looks like a different team, all these kids, Addison Russell and Bryant and all these guys are going to be coming. And you go, oh, better. Get out, Joe Madden's available. My hockey hero, my hockey hero, number 18, Dennis Savard. Get out. You're going to commit to the Indian. You're not going to commit to the Indian. We're going to take you upstairs and get you out of here. No, you're out of here. Go on. Sorry, Savard. Guess what? Joel Quenville's coming in, a winner. Yes. And then he did it to Renteria again on the South side. Hey, Ricky, we appreciate everything. Get out. There comes Tony. Yeah, that was a bad hire, but the premise still stands. There's A to B coaches everywhere. Yeah. And so I just-- Well, we will see what this season brings. That's all I can say. The Bulls. The Doug. Yeah. Whatever that whole story ever is, they got rid of Doug who went, what, to the Eastern Conference final. Get out, Phil. - Step it. - It happens, so Royal, you may get your wish. We understand. - He may get flushed. - No question. - 3-1-2-3-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-3-2-3-7, 7-6-R phone number. In Lyle, here's Lewis on Cap and J-hood. Lewis, good morning. - What's up, Lewis? - Guys, just first off on all pod yesterday, you caught me at a very bad time, where someone has that call was going on, someone absolutely needed my help in an emergency situation. But that's okay, next time we'll call you at a more convenient time, Lewis. (laughing) - That's on me. That's on me. Well, I just gotta say, I think I, hey, I'm some sideways or angled up for Caleb, because as I've said every time I've called in, Caleb has gotten better. Every single game, we're not seeing any regression. I mean, you can see it in instead, you can see it in his passorating everything. Now, with regards to what I think we need to do, I mean, really the offensive line, I think we have some pieces there. I don't know why Donald Wright has a aggressive way he is, but I think he's a mauler. I mean, we saw what he did in college, we saw what he could do last year. Maybe move, I don't think Nate Davis should be in that line up. And I think everyone can agree with that. You can move Kevin Jenkins to Wright Guard, that's where he's more natural now that we don't have Nate Davis in that line up, acting like a prima Dona lineman, saying that he'll only play Wright Guard. He then put Kevin Jenkins back to his more comfortable position at Wright Guard. Move Matt prior to left guard once he's back, or not Matt prior to Ryan Bates, sorry. And honestly, from there, I think your running game is going to get a whole lot, but I know that you have Kevin Jenkins, and you're probably your biggest mauler at Wright Guard. And Donald Wright, your biggest pack, or your best run blocking tackle, you can run behind those two. And honestly, in the passing game, Taylor just got to like bring his throws down a little bit, or bring his throws back. It seems like he's consistently overthrowing him, which that's correctable. As long as it's precise and consistent, that's an easy correction. It's not like he misses hard left, misses hard right, misses short, misses long. He's always missing long. That's something that he can correct. And I have 100% believe that this is something that will be corrected. And you know what, I will, everybody saying Jake Daniels is better? He's not better. He's playing in a simplified system that Cliff King's very designed for a rookie quarterback that I'm willing to bet. I'm a lot about $20 right now. And I will actually value this if I'm wrong, that come mid-season or by the end of the season, teams will have figured it out. And Jake Daniels will be, or will show signs of being a rookie. He's not gonna look like this by all. - Well, here's the thing, Louis, isn't you don't have to root against him. You have to root against him. Let him, let him live his life as a rookie. I don't compare Caleb Williams to Jake and Daniels or any other rookie. I compare Caleb Williams to the previous quarterbacks that we've had. That's like, let Jane Daniels let him be if he's gonna be a rookie of the year, whatever. That doesn't, Jane Daniels' career has other to do with Caleb Williams. And maybe he does regress to the mean, but the point is though is that he's off to a really good start. As I've been saying this recently, Cap, I think you've heard me say that I'm not a jealous fan. I'm not, I only care about my teams and the teams that I have energy for. And why do I care about what's happening with the Washington commanders until we play them? Correct. So I don't care about what's on the other side. Well, they've got that and welcome, we don't have that and we don't. I'm not a jealous fan. I just care about how our teams get better. Just keep getting better every day, man. Let's go. That's all I'm saying, right, Yuke? Well, they are down, they did it. And the crew. (audience groans) We'll have it in. And Proor's Baseball brought to you by Gruber Law Offices. Gruber Law! As the Proor's lose against the match. Devon William, blown save. Oh, that taste. Well, New York. (laughs) Down, they did it. And Proor's. By using this. My Delta Dental. Yes. For your team, then your gums Delta Dental. Sanding. Hearing my vlogging. On the Proor's. Radio network. I'm 90. (laughs) Sad. More of your phone calls are the Bears. Three, one, two, three, two, three, two, three, three, three, seven, seven, six is our telephone number. Are you thumbs up? Thumbs down are thumbs in the middle when it comes to Caleb Williams. Do four games. What do you think? Let's talk about it. Oh, no shot at eight o'clock. All part of the mix on Captain Jhood. Checkmate, one, six land here. Suppression on target. That's why I see him in my shot. Shot. Or no shot. With Captain Jhood on ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago app. That's why I see him in my shot. Good morning. And welcome in to the Captain Jhood Morning Show on ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. Courtney Cronin on the Bears in 835. She's awesome. The picks coming up next. We got attacks from the Jayhawk as you have appropriately nicknamed him. Yes. That would be Danny Zetterman, our boss. And Danny Zetterman weighing in, he's listening to the show as he always does. Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is huge for little league attorneys. We just had a call from Pigeon Forge if you missed it. He said, my son Avery's team is going next summer and we are staying at Dollywood. That's correct. How cool is that? No, you said you visited. Did you ever stay there at Dollywood? No. No, what I told you was is that I saw a special on ET about Dollywood. I've never been in your fortune. Okay. Absolutely. Yeah, you go to do these games like at Jackson, Mississippi and Jacksonville, Alabama. I don't know. That might be the next spot for Missouri Valley. I could see that way. Some things, the way things are going. Pigeon Forge State. Dollywood surprised me. So these places I got to go this season. But nonetheless, no, it's something I saw and I thought, wow, that's interesting. You know, kind of out of the way in Tennessee and go see Dolly Parton. All of the great parts of Dolly Parton. Every bit of it. A couple of great parts. Yeah. Two in particular. Yeah. Her hair and her eyes. We turn now to a shot and no shot with Shayne Orling. Shayne. Good morning on a Bears Friday. How are we feeling? We're good, man. We're good. We're not drunk like you from last night. Oh, yeah, from the whistle last night. You have more of these-- The whistle and Oakland. These more of these appearances you'll be doing. You're actually pressing the flesh for the people, apparently. Yeah, it's been fun. So Oakland last night, the whistle, it was great Monday night next week. We will be at almost home in Wrigleyville with the Bud Light Football Toss contest, an opportunity to join myself, Carmen and Yerko on the Windy City takeover. Get yourself qualified to win a trip to San Francisco. See the Bears play the Niners, December 8th. Lot of fun. Go ahead and say it, Cap. I'm going to say it. Say it. What do you want to say, Cap? Why would you just say I've got to the say and then you say it? I'm not going to say it. I'm not going to-- How are you going? See how that works? Like how that would go down. Here's Shayne Orling, Shayne. And the wonderful partner that is Bud Light takes care of me. [MUSIC PLAYING] See, we get like-- Oh, you get a day of training, Cam. Where's that? Lake Forest. Oh, OK. Nope, let him enjoy. Hey. Fine. Let him enjoy. It's going to be great. San Francisco, right? Yep. Taking a Don's game while you're there. See Bill Cartwright. There you go. Here is Shayne Orling, Shayne. Is he in coach there? Now, I called a game there. You did? Oh, yeah. UIC played San Francisco. I was there. And I was good to you, everybody. Welcome to the whatever the convention center, the War Memorial, I think it was. That's how old that building. What in the War Memorial? Oh, God. Here is San Francisco. And Bill Cartwright, as I'm sitting there, he bumps my chair while I'm doing the broadcast just to say hello. That was his way of saying hello, just bumps my chair, just-- Hey, what's up? Hey, I love you. It's like Bill bumps my chair right in the middle of broadcast. San Francisco. Absolutely. All right, Shayne, you have a good time there, buddy. What would you say we'll say from what? Tenderloin. Oh, so what to meet? No, that's the area in San Francisco you don't want to visit. Oh, shit. I lived there for five years, so. Shayne, why don't you give us a report from Tenderloin? Maybe I will. So now that you said that, you know-- I'll wear the old English D. I'll be safe. You know what? Now you said that, J-more. Now he's going to go. He's going to go now. Good job, J-more. I'm in Tenderloin. I should take-- Oh, God. I'll bring Carmen with me. No shot. No shot. That carm. Carm is not true. Absolutely not. Old carm, maybe. Old carm? This carm, no shot. Here is the great Shayne Orley now, drunk, from last night in Oakland, but still made it in today. As he wets his whistle, we'll shot a no shot. For the Bears, blink. And this NFC North might pass you by. The NFC North currently has the best combined record in the NFL by some distance, with all four teams at or above 500 and the Vikings and Lions showing no signs of slowing down. So shot or no shot. The strength of this division makes Sunday against Carolina a must-win game for the Bears. There's a dude in a Panthers hat walking by the studio right now. Right now. Yes. Get him. It's important. [LAUGHTER] That's the second round. We can fly while I listen to the ABC7 studio. Sickle, sickle, boy. Hey, let's not attack-- hold on a second cab. Let's not attack Panther fans. If you see the old man walking down, don't attack him. Please. He was an older gentleman. He's an older gentleman. Look, that hat looked like the Lomera. It did. It looked like a little hat. Yes. So let's leave that man alone. So I would say, look, I said earlier in the show, must-win is when, like, you're the Brewers. And fortunately, you didn't win. But the-- Right. Yeah. Take that, you. Well, no. [LAUGHTER] It's not must, but it's super freakin' important. You need to find a way to get on that plane to London three and two. Not a must-win, but it's a game that you just want to improve in. Improving what you had last week, Cap. It's not a must-win. No, that's a no-shot. But you've got to be able to win. And, Shay, it's what we've been saying all week. You have to look better offensively, even how you look against the Rams. I still think you have to get some of the wide receivers involved into it. I do. And I just think that Williams and DJ Moore, for whatever reason, is a storyline at House Hall. Are you guys on the same page? You get along all this nonsense. Amen. I just want them to be able to just work and work at getting better. That's all. You have to be a viable, as you mentioned, contender in the north and have a good offense. Your defense is set, but your offense has to look adult-like. Shay. All right, speaking of the offense, this week has been a lot about the connection between DJ Moore and Kayla Williams. Pretty much been the theme of the week. These two, for whatever reason, can't get on the same page. They did finally connect for a touchdown in the second half last week after a sideline conversation. So, shot or no shot. DJ Moore will have his biggest game of the season so far with Kayla on Sunday against the Panthers. That's a no-shot. That's a no-shot. Why? You might get a lot of targets, but I don't know if it's going to be his biggest game since they've been together. What's his biggest output this year? How many? Four yards. He caught a nine-yard touchdown last week. Yeah. He catches for 78 yards against the Colts, but no touchdown. That was his most productive yardage day. It was last week 3 for 22 with a touchdown. Yeah, this will be his most productive game. He will have at least 80 yards in receiving and a tuddy. Let's go. He gets double team. Roma Dunes, he has a big day. OK. He's on my fantasy team. I'm good with that. Yeah. I'm saying is, there's no rush. You don't have to be able to force feed DJ Moore time and time again, because, again, when you start focusing and locking down a one receiver, you could get picked, especially when you're a rookie quarterback. It doesn't have to be that for me. I'll say it's a shot, but it doesn't have to. He doesn't have to just hone in on DJ Moore just because of their conversation on the sidelines about how they could be on the same page. It's more than DJ Moore. That's my whole point of this cap. The offense is more than DJ Moore. No doubt. But with Keenan Allen now, they're not even on the entry report anymore and Cole and Roma Dunes. Yeah. Let's go. I think he has his best day of his season so far. I would agree, but I think he could spread the wealth. If you think that we know about the storyline of DJ Moore and Caleb Williams, need the Panthers now? Of course they know. They know. That it might be an emphasis on DJ Moore and that opens it up for other people. Who knows? Let's get it done. Shane? Yeah, I know. I'd actually prefer they don't force feed DJ Moore because I think that's when you run into problems as an offense. I'm not saying force feed, but he's good enough and there's enough weaponry around to attract attention that he'll make place. He'll open it up for others though, Cap. That's what I see. You don't want a Josh Allen step on dig scenario. That's all I'm saying. And I say that's who DJ Moore is from a personality standpoint, but you don't want that from a production standpoint, like, how come I'm not getting the ball? I'm the guy. I come. I'm not getting the ball. I got. I'm the guy with the fresh contract. It's more than DJ Moore, man. And polls made it that way to make sure I wasn't just one guy. He's gone through enough with the Chicago Bears by being the guy, not getting the ball under Justin Fields. That's why you got these other guys. I wanted to be able to run the football and others be able to eat. Not just one guy, Cap. It's not a one-dimensional offense anymore. Shane Norley. Last night, the Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers behind a three-run home run in the top of the ninth off the bat of one Pete Alonzo. Alonzo, we know, is appending free agent this offseason and has been rumored as a player the Cubs like in the past. So shot or no shot, the Cubs should sign Pete Alonzo this offseason. Williams says, here's the pitch, swinging a fly ball to right field pretty well. He had to feel it back at the wall. He jumps. It's gone. He did it. He did it. He did it. Pete Alonzo with the most memorable home run of his career pumps his fist as he rounds second. It's a three-run homer. He's given the Mets a three to two lead. They all pour out of the dugout. Alonzo won his way to home plate. They're waiting for him. He has to play. His first congratulated by Nemo. Hug by Lindor, there it goes and it's waiting for him outside the dugout. Pete Alonzo keeps this fairytale season going with the fairytale swing of his career. Three to two New York. Shot. So good. Shot. Shot. Jed could sole play that stuff all he wants in his press conference. Well, and Perlin's got to come internal. Guess what? You're going to spend money because you see your mortality as a team president. It's no doubt, like if you're Tom Rick, it's Jed a good dude. He's a smart guy. But guess what? If they don't make the playoffs next year, there's change in coming. It ain't Jed's money. They're going to be in there. Now if he gets some godfather offer from Steve Cohen, you pivot and move to the next guy. But they're absolutely going to be involved. Okay. Shane, should I tell him or should you tell him? I just, I think it's so funny that Cap thinks the seven war from match happen was not worth it. But the two and a half from Alonzo. Go get him. Brother. Because your guy was all about defense. His offensive numbers were pedestrian. They're okay. His office. Defense. No question. Very, very good. I can't wait till you sign Alonzo and he booths a ball at first base and you come in next morning with your head in the roof of this building. Because like Billy Bean said, money ball. The defense at first does not matter. That's what he said to Art Howe. Right there. It goes, he doesn't know how to play for it. It does not matter. He gets on base and he could drive in runs period. Take that. How many championships are Billy Bean? So here's a thing. He runs pretty good. You're about to talk about it. That's my point. That's my point. Twins just won again. In the division series. This will be a quoting Billy Bean because he's a smartest guy in baseball. He's just unbelievable. Hot movie makes him a genius. He's not cap. He's not. He wouldn't even be in your top five of great general managers or front office guys. He might have a philosophy, but it wasn't winning. And by the way, if you ran the front office of the Cubs, you'd be hitting the roof every year. They don't have any money. They spend nothing. They got a pathetic ballpark and that dude makes them respectable. Come on. The A's? You tried running that thing on a shoestring. I wouldn't. Horrible. Well, I'd be at least I could be as good as Tampa. I could do that. They're not even as good as Tampa had been over the years under Madden and cash. No shot cab. Peter Lonzo. That's the topic. You sure that's what you want? Almost on the wrong side of 30 now. Almost. I'm just saying. You're trying to win next year. I've had enough of this nonsense cap. That guy has been lousy, lousy in the second half, unclutch. You sure you want that? He had one big moment, the Mets, then that whole rally for the Mets in the second half. A lot of it is not on a Lonzo. It's about pitching and also that Buick they had on the mound yesterday. Yeah, the Buick hung in there. He did. Buick hung in there. I'm not a Buick fan. Yeah. Okay. And Tana, but Pete Alonzo, let's see here. Pete Alonzo had an OPS plus of 123. Here you go. He's 134 for his career. He hit what? 34 bombs and that's a down year for him. You know that that's an owner that's going to overspend in New York, he does give him a godfather offer. We'll pivot. What was this OPS plus 123? Oh, pedestrian Matt Chapman was 125. That's interesting. Yeah. He's a pedestrian. He's a pedestrian player, Matt Chapman. He had a nice year. He did. I'm not going to tell you he didn't. You're not a. You're basically like dating Matt Chapman. Matt Chapman is an average player. You're not gonna pee the lawns away from getting to the playoffs, by the way. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. I need a closer. home runs at Riggly next year and I'll beat your ass. I don't think so. Cap, I don't think so. I think you could do better than that. You don't want to give him the haul and then for him to be an underachiever as he was. Big moment last night and there's no question. But where has he been all season? Do not just be just stargazing at the numbers and think what he could be at the cub. You don't want that to go badly on you. The big moment with the Mets, you sure you could do that with the cubs? You sure? Not so sure. Like Matt Chapman has been 100, 116, 107 prior to this year where he had a better year. And the pass. Well, we'll have it in. Thank you, you. We have around the NFL with the pics. That's next on Cap and Jhood. You're listening to Cap and Jhood. Follow the show on Instagram @thecatman and @ijjhood. This is ESPN Chicago, Chicago's home for sports. And now it's time for the pics. Here on the Cap and Jhood Morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app, College and Pro. Here's Shane Norley. Shane? Yeah, we get started with college football. I'll give you the standings quickly. Cap in first. J more in second. Hoodie, you and I are pulling up the rear. We start today. Missouri at Texas A&M. Texas A&M, a two and a half point favorite against top 10 ranked Missouri at Kyle Field in college station. Hoodie, you take it off. Yeah, Texas A&M won four straight games since the season opening loss against Notre Dame, including a 21-17 win against Arkansas. Missouri is going on the roll for the first time this season, after just getting past Vanderbilt. I love Texas A&M minus two and a half against the Jack McGrath's. Yeah, the AI version of Jack tells me that this Missouri team with coach Eli Drinkowitz. Is it Drinkowitz or Drinkowitz? Drinkowitz. Is in a good place right now. He did some data. He had the battery power charged up and he tells me to take the Missouri Tigers getting the two and a half. Shane, line just looks wacky and mizzou so far looks fake. I was willing to write off the Boston College as a weird spot. What you can't do is go to overtime and should have lost to wait for it Vanderbilt at home the following week. I'll take A&M. I'm rolling with hoodie and Shay. I'm rolling with Texas A&M. Next, 10 Win Deanna, the fight and current signetis, go to the lakefront. They're 13 and a half point road favorites at Northwestern hoodie. Wish my Saturday was open. I'd like to see that game cap. Just want to see the lakefront, the new kind of uh, make it up stadium there for uh, Northwestern. I like Northwestern and keep it close. They will not win the ball game because Indiana, but I like it a little closer than the experts think. Give me Northwestern plus 13 and a half. Yeah, when you roll into that pop up stadium along the lake, beautiful. It's gorgeous. But it is a different experience. So while Indiana may win the football game, we'll see. I've taken the 13 and a half. Give me the Northwestern wildcats and gave that a lose by 12. Go ahead, go ahead, Shay. Cordy Cronin joins us in about 10 minutes. She's an IU alum. Go Hoosiers. 10 Win Deanna goes up, blows out Northwestern. Indiana, it'd be close though. All right. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Indiana be close. So who are you taking, Jay Moore? I'm taking Indiana. So you're laying the 13 and a half? Yeah, I think it'd be close. I think it'd be a close game. I'm not going to take the points though. He's the first half second half guy. Wow. That's the late touchdown. He's looking for the back door cover late. But you know, Kurt Signetty wants to make money for his alumni. He respects gamblers. He'll blow it open. All right. Michigan at Washington National title rematch and the Huskies against number 10 Michigan are laying two and a half, buddy. Michigan has won each of its last 27 games against conference opponents. Nine of Washington's last 10 games have gone under the points line. So I'll probably look under for this game, but I will. I'll take Michigan plus the two and a half on the road. I think Michigan's going to win the game outright. I do. I think they're going to try and run the football. Washington still searching a little bit for their identity. They lost a ton, Pennics and Roma doomsday and others from last year's National runner up. Give me the Michigan Wolverine. I'm taking Washington, I think Michigan without a pass offense to speak of having to go east coast to west coast for a night game and one of the most hostile environments in the country against a defense that has passed tests against rushing offenses. Not a great spot. Plus Michigan is unbelievably banged up after the Minnesota game and the line looks just bizarre. I'm going to go Huskies. I'm going Michigan plus two and a half. These guys did it. These guys did it. I did, man. Under the NFL, jets and Vikings kick it off Sunday morning in London, Vikings two and a half point favorite, so I think the Vikings continue to roll. I just think that what's happening with the offense. It's not broken in the in New York, but I think that there's a disconnect there with Wilson, the offensive line and Aaron Rodgers. I believe the Vikings will continue. Give me the Vikings minus two and a half in London. Yeah, I look at this game and I think the Vikings are good. You're obviously off to a solid start. This is a big game for the Jets. I think they get back on track and run the football into the teeth of a blitzing defensive corner who I like a lot. Brian Flores, give me my guy Aaron and the Jets. Last week was weird for the Jets. Breeze Hall was terrible. They couldn't find anything in the ground game against Denver. I think that will change against the Vikings. And if you ask me what quarterback I want against a Brian Flores blitz, it's Aaron Rodgers pre snap getting the ball out faster than anybody. I'll take the New York football jets. We're gonna go with the Vikings. They will go five and all. All right, my friend. Raven's laying two and a half points on the road and Cincinnati hoodie. All right, we'll pass. Go ahead. Nope. Not allowed. This is a tight one here, man. It's a tight one. What does calm tell you? Inner division dogs love mustard and onions from nonsense. Take the points on the intra division game. Okay. I don't even know if that's a real fact. It's just something he says. And he says when he says at the when the home team is getting the point, he says that what profundity doesn't mean it's true. Give me the Ravens minus two and a half against the Bengals. Yep. I'm going anti-carman. This one and I usually follow the Carms advice. You do? Give me the Ravens. I am not going that way. Check that out. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. He gets that from someplace else. Division of home dogs right there. Good. Right, boys? Can you look that for me? Put it up, please. Can you go back after this? I believe Carmen de Falco when he says take the divisional home dog and I will Joe Burrow quietly playing incredible football since the loss to New England. The defense just has to get right. Bengals need this worse than the Ravens. I'll take since it. But then the Ravens won't be the best team in the NFL. Go ahead. Right. Thought you had love for the Ravens, Shay. I was down on them this year. I have under 11 wins. According to you last year, it was the best team in the history of the sport. That's correct. I'll take the Ravens and the points. Are you sure, Jay Moore? This one is a question mark. It's interesting. They do a number on the bills last week. So I like how they look. So you'll lay the two and a half with the Ravens? Absolutely. I love it. Speaking of the bills, they are a straight pick on for our purposes on the road in Houston, honey. Give me the bills. I picked the bills over the Texans. I'd like to, by the way, off to the side, like for you to tell me how the public money is gone and whether or not there's going to be a favorite at some point between now and Sunday. It's a pick up now, but I'd like to know by the time we get to Sunday, I feel like the bills one and a half. I think that could be something. I think that could be the number, right? What's the cap line? Pretty much a split ticket as far as the bet. I think it's going to be on Buffalo, hoodie. I would think it's going to be Buffalo minus one by Sunday. But you say split ticket, right? Split ticket on the bets, but Buffalo's getting most of the money. All right. Kaplan? The bills are going to win this game by probably a touchdown or so, maybe six. Give me the Buffalo bills. All in agreement so far, I will take Buffalo as well. Same here, bills. Packers laying two and a half on the road at SoFi, taking on the Rams, SOTY. Packers have an NFL leading 12 takeaways. They've intercepted eight passes to Minnesota, uh, uh, that passes Minnesota for the league league. Packers have won four straight over the Rams. And I feel like that's going to continue. Give me the Packers minus two and a half against the Rams in Los Angeles, Matthew Stafford versus Jordan Love. And while love is a little bit banged up on the knee, the long trip makes it a little stiff. Uh, thank you very much, Jim Moore, give me the ram and hold cap. I'm with you. Matthew Stafford's been awesome this year, even without his top receivers. They've just gotten bogged down in the red zone, Packer defense takeaways are great, but the rest of it hasn't impressed me. I'll take the Rams. I think the Packers will win the game, but I don't bet the pack. So I'm going with the Rams. We love it. Next Cowboys to more in there. He is stealth, man. That guy just stealth and he's good. Cowboys that stealers stealers laying two and a half, hoodie. Steelers are dedicated to running the football. Even though they haven't been proficient at it very, it has been efficient at it very much lately. You know, Pittsburgh's 138 rushing attempts are tied for the tops of the NFL. Yet the Steelers are averaging this 3.7 yards to carry. So they can't run the football. They can't pass the football. Give me the Cowboys plus two and a half in Pittsburgh. Yeah, I will roll with big D. I think that's a good game. Thank you, Jay Moore. The Dallas Cowboys roll into the steel city. Put a beating on the Steelers. I will roll with the Cowboys. What's going on in there? Get the Steelers. Steelers at home, that defense. Cowboys offense looks awful down to down. Success rates not good. I think Steelers win. It's a deck. I'm going to go with the Cowboys, man. Well, I'm on an island on a lot of these games today. Saints at Chiefs, Chiefs laying five and a half, hoodie. I'll never bet against the Chiefs again. Give me the Chiefs minus five and a half. I follow hoodie on this. Give me the Chiefs. I'm taking the Saints. Patrick Mahomes north of a field goal. Oh, stop. Prime time. This is a Harrison butker wins at late spot. Give me the Saints to cover the five. What the hell? I'm taking the Chiefs. What is going on? God, he's the best in the freaking NFL. No. Fade him. Fade him. Fade him. And then he holds up another Lombardi. That's fine. I will never bet against him when he's getting points ever again, but he does not do well north of a field goal historically against the number. Whatever. In prime time, that's a butker field goal spot. We've seen it like four times this year already. This is Monday night football or Sunday night football. Monday night. Okay. Do we have two Monday night games again? No, thank God. Oh, that's fine. I love too many of that final game of the slate. Panthers at bears bears laying three and a half. Jim, were you like the Chiefs? Yeah, yeah, Chiefs. I got my bad, Jim. The like caps up. The bears minus three and a half against the Panthers. The pair should roll. Yeah, this one, I believe the bears will roll. I did not make it a top player or best bet in the Sun Times column. Sylvie and I do with Mark potash. I do think they win, but would you if what I be shocked if Cairo Santos bangs through a field goal? That wouldn't shock me, but I do think the bears covered the number close. Like I'm not like all in on it, but I'm going to pick the bears. I'm leaning with the bears as well. Panthers top defensive players will not play. They're really injured. I like the bears to just blow them off the field on Sunday afternoon. Actually, you're right. Bears all day. All right. And those are the picks. There's a pause in it. Watch this. Watch the Watch the radio pal. The picks. That's how you do it. It's a pregnant those are the pick. There you go. Good job, Howard. There you go. All right, coming up. So now we turn to Courtney Cronet with the latest on the Chicago bears. The array tick on the Carolina Panthers. Captain Jay Hood weekday morning seven to ten.
