[MUSIC] >> We're here with John Cooper of Skillet at Rage Against No. No, rescue the Republic. We're right yesterday, still, I'm so used to saying that. John, I have the same story as the last guy, grew up on your music, all the different phases and everything. It's amazing to see you get into more of the political side. And speak out, because it seems like we have a lack of people, especially in the Christian community that's willing to put their name on that. What drove you over the edge to that? >> You know what drove me over was this. I've always been passionate about telling people about my faith. Passionate about bringing people together. I don't care who you are, what you believe, who you vote for. Rock and roll brings people together and it's a great chance for me to say, hey, my testimony is this, I was in a dark place, I had no hope. Jesus gave me hope, that's my whole message. That began to change as Western civilization is on the brink. I began to see people promoting, even Christian people, unfortunately, promoting things that I might, wait a minute, I think that's actually evil. You cannot promote all these things under the banner of Christianity. What's going on? 2020 is what changed it for me. I never wanted to be speaking about politics, I do not want that. >> Me neither. >> I want to be playing rock and roll. I want to tell people about my faith. But we're in a place that if we don't, I seriously believe not in an alarmist way, I believe we are going to lose core values. And the effect of that is going to be so bad. I keep telling Christian people, and I know everybody watching this Christian is fine. But I keep telling Christian people because a lot of Christians say, John, you got to stop talking about politics, that's not what life is about. And I keep saying to them, do you know how close we are before your freedom of religion to speak what you believe on, that's already happened on social media. That happened in 2020, we saw that. Some of the things I said was taken off of Facebook, taken all down from YouTube, just speaking the truth. Do you know how close we are to that? Do you think the world is better or worse without free speech? Free speech. >> I thought we were stopping racism though, like all the white supremacy. >> Exactly. They're fine to speak about all of that, but not about things that are actually going to change everyone's life for the worse. So that's what it is to me. The Bible says we are supposed to stand up for those being led to slaughter. We are supposed to stand against tyranny. The book of Revelation, Christians are praised for standing against the beast. They would not bow down to the beast. Well, what is the beast? I'm not getting into eschatology. But all throughout the Bible, the beast, their reverence is to beast. They're usually governments that have become status. They're dictators that want to enslave people and be a culture of death. We got to stand against it. That's why skill is here, actually. >> Thank you so much for being here, man.
