You know, I think everybody is hoping, look, we all know everybody is hoping, 24, Nick Chub, this miraculous return, injured week two Monday night football against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But now at least we have the first reality is Nick Chub will be out until at least October so no. So the rates, no 15th, they don't have 22nd, no 29th, or at least Nick Chub would be able to be returned, would be a week five. So you know, to Nick, you know, hopefully the process continues going smoothly, continues, you know, going without incident, Nick is obviously been putting in a ton, a ton of work towards all of this. So we're really, really looking forward to when Nick does the return to this team. But it's going to be a bit, I know there were, you know, questions about his contract. Some people kind of jumped the gun. But you know, it was leaked out today that the contract was structured differently this year for this season for Nick with the understanding of the rehab process and with the understanding that he was probably somebody that was not going to be returning for the beginning of the season. Browns planned for this, appeased at one of their, you know, best players, one of the guys who was represented, the franchise, the best way possible in his tenure here with the Cleveland Browns. Nick Chub plays 12 games that Nick Chub gets every dime of his 12 point, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, really, really nice move and gesture by the Cleveland Browns. And you know, you do things like that, that takes notice, certainly within your building, but that certainly has players eyes open, ears open around the league. Players are a bunch of high schoolers, they gab, they text, they talk. Everybody knows how every franchise treats their players. Players who don't play for said franchise know how that franchise treats their players. The gesture of what the Cleveland Browns did as far as, you know, structuring and manipulating Nick Chub's contract certainly goes a long way for the people in that building and for future people who will one day be going into that building. The Heem Hines, and it's not really been much on the Heem Hines as far as when, you know, it's just, he's not off the list yet. Don't know exactly where it all is and you know, he's well, well over a full calendar year, you know, from his, you know, knee injury, which happened, you know, certainly jet skiing, again, you know, I mean, he's a little bit, you know, it's right in that, you know, Nick Chub, as far as age and experience time in the league, you have your questions about, you know, how much of a workload would these guys have, again, the aspirations right now for every NFL team is that you were playing a minimum 20 games. You do really well in your 17 regular season games, you get a buy to playoff games, you win a ball to get the Super Bowl. That should be the goal of the expectation in every one of the 32 NFL locker rooms currently. How many of them logistically have a chance? That is a different story. But for the Cleveland Browns coming off an 11 win season, that is what you're shooting for, you want to go out there, you want to win the AFC North, and you want to be able to host a playoff game, possibly two, and then make your way down to New Orleans and represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. It's what it works. It's what you want. So where are you looking right now? And even it is still interesting because, you know, Jerome Ford, we know of right now in well health, Jerome's good, appears ready to go. Yes, for Dante Foreman, currently nursing a rib injury for Pierre Strong, currently nursing a rib injury. So when this final cuts down to happen, you know, the Browns will have Jerome Ford to running back position. And then most likely two other running backs who currently are dealing with rib injuries, you don't know, no Heem Hines maybe it could be tomorrow, maybe it could be Thursday, you know, maybe it could be Tuesday and it could be ready to participate in some way, somehow shape or form against the Dallas Cowboys. But for right now, we have no idea what the timetable is for Nehem Hines. So certainly our ideas and, you know, concerns right now it's running back from the consist of three players, you know, fall back with the speak, you know, they let go of Giorici. Is that something they're going to revise that role again, once again with Nick Harris? Who knows how this all works out to the Browns be in for the market for a running back? I would not be stunned. Could the Browns be in the market for a tight end? I'd be stunned if they weren't. I got to stay true to myself, obviously I've been calling for a tight end for a very, very long time now. So certainly, you know, something else to consider there moving here off with the offensive line. You know, you hear about some other guys that we still haven't heard of where Michael done. I don't even know what's going on, Michael done. But what I do know right now is that Wyatt Teller has started pre-season games as a right guard. He has started pre-season games as a left guard. So Wyatt Teller, for all intents and purposes, has probably surpassed Michael Dunn even if Michael Dunn returned to practice tomorrow, thirds, whatever. Wyatt Teller-- I mean, sorry, Zach Sinter is your future, you know, next guy who's going to be a starter for this Cleveland Browns, whether it is not Wyatt Teller or whether it is not Joe Batonio, the future is Zach Sinter at one of these offensive guard positions. They really, really like JV and Cohen and they would like to continue that work relationship going. So I think JV and Cohen is going to be a guy that makes that roster. So it really makes you wonder where they are with Michael Dunn and it, you know, certainly difficult to trade somebody right now who's injured and who knows maybe Tennessee would have some interest. But it would all depend on, you know, how healthy Michael Dunn is, and then, you know, Kenny Pess physical and get on the field ASAP because nobody's going to have interest in a player that can do nothing for them currently right now. Hudson is supposed to return to practice this week as well, and then JV certainly is still going to be a while, but there's a lot, you know, going on here, you know, as the Browns look, moving, manipulating, you know, with the sights on the Dallas Cowboys, certainly got to be some positive air in that building right now, you know, Greg Newsom obviously got his tweet out, you know, certainly a little, you know, little, you know, getting a little kid gift, knowing that, you know, getting back out there and, you know, everybody misses the guys. It's always difficult to be the injured guy, you know, whether it's right or wrong, you're usually treated a little different, you usually reacted to a little different. It's just the way it happens. And, you know, Greg, you know, for what turned out to be still really strong year for him, you know, turned out, you know, and found a way to really, really contribute on the inside, certainly got us a chance to play on the outside injuries here, injuries there. But Greg Newsom was a really, really big part of this 2023 team. Now with his fifth year picks up, fifth year option picked up for 2025 can just go on out here and hopefully just ball out for this team in 2024, his team, you know, really needs him. They need that strength of those top three corners that they have in Denzel and MJ Emerson. All the talk that keeps going out there. Look, we're all aware that Denzel Ward has had the issues with his head. Yeah, I don't like accounts that put it out there. Just, you know, look, everybody knows, but what are you putting in out there for, you know, it's not like I'm saying it's airing somebody's dirty laundry. But this is, you know, look, I mean, whether or not, and you know, who knows how serious this is, you know, for Denzel to make these decisions, it's a really big spot in his life. I mean, there's a lot going on as far as his career that could be related to, you know, what goes on to his post-playing career. I know a lot of people are wondering about, you know, whether or not he is going to, you know, wear the helmet apparatus in games. I think all it's going to take for that to happen is it's going to take for a couple players to wear it. Nobody wants to be the first, essentially, to wear that. But once other people start to do the normalness of it, the, you know, that'll probably that stigmatism, stigmatism of it, that'll all kind of drop. So if Denzel wants to be bold and look, we all know he's got the, you know, certainly got his charity and, you know, he has no problem about you helping either your others and trying to be, you know, don't feel like you're different. Be yourself. And so you wouldn't be surprised me if maybe Denzel does go that route, you know, he's had a ridiculously good career to this point, still one of the absolute top five best corner backs in the NFL. I just, you know, it just seems unjust for, you know, people to be, you know, basically trying to monetize, certainly that's just disgusting, but also trying to gain attention to their accounts by bringing up something that, you know, you know, tons of purposes. It's a pretty serious thing when you're talking about one's health the way we do when we talk about number 21, can't wait to see him, MJ, Gee, do getting excited, certainly getting excited and kind of all got a slower, you know, all got a slower enthusiasm just a sad bit. You've heard us talk a lot about Fandall America's number one sports book. Well, we have something a little different for you now through September 22nd. All Fandall customers can bet $5 and get a three week free trial of NFL Sunday ticket from YouTube and YouTube TV. Then with a YouTube TV based plan, you'll be able to watch every regular season Sunday afternoon out of market game. All you need is a Google account and a current form of payment. And you can cancel any time for that $5 bet. You could look at an NFL future. Everyone wants to be a number one receiver who will lead all wide receivers in yards. Fandall has three players without nine to one or shorter. Fandall has Tyree kill the favorite to lead the league in receiving at plus 650 CD lamb right behind him. Doesn't have a contract plus 750. And then Justin Jefferson checks in at nine to one. Interestingly enough, but I'm on Ross St. Brown and Jamar Chase have 11 to one odds. And I like both of those a lot. So I'm going to say Brown in particular on that one visit fainter.com/lockdown to download America's number one sports book. Are you watching Fox sports or ESPN on your TV all day? Old friend coming back to the roster, due to Smith Schuster returns to the roster was actually out of practice. LRC gave up his number so that he could have old number nine back, which I appreciate because I like seeing that it's something that's been rumored. We've been talking about it for a bit. I think we both had comments on it in the past. Even something that I was anticipating down the line because of the way last few weeks have gone with the emergence of Justin Ross like playing better and we were talking about maybe they need to keep seven wide receivers now and all kinds of stuff. He comes back for one reason. He's got Patrick Warholms trust. He's produced for this team even when he was hurting in the past. I think they're just doubling down on history. Do you see something else? To decide earlier, in 2022 when he was here with Patrick Mahomes, he was tied for 20th and the league in first downs at a wide receiver position. That to me tells you everything that you need to know about what the signing is about. He has Patrick Mahomes's trust and he is able to confer first downs. Is he going to be a different receiver than he was when he was here in 2022? I would imagine so. I don't think that he's going to get near the snaps that they were expecting or that he got obviously in 2022. He is still dealing with the knee injury and I think that's going to hamper what he's able to do. But I do think that this has value. This gives them a possession type guy that they can trust that they know knows the system and can step in and kind of take over. In case something happens to a guy like Rashid Rice, you don't really have another type of those wide receivers on this roster. Watson can do a lot but he's still not juju when it comes to possession. I do think that that's probably where they're going to use him. Yeah, that makes sense and I'm glad that you bring that up because I do see that this has changed since his time here. I don't know that you can call him a threat to go down field anymore. He can still do some of the deep crossers. I took a quick look at some of the Patriots film. It wasn't the greatest season for him but he was out there. At this point, like you said, he's always been a physical guy, he's built pretty thick. I don't see that as a replacement for Rashid Rice in case Rashid gets hurt or if that suspension comes down whenever it comes down. To me, he looks like mostly for this offense going to be more of a possession underneath receiver that can play off of Rashid and off of Travis Kelsey. You see it differently than I do? I'm just saying I think that he can step in and kind of do some of the stuff that Rashid does. He's going to replace Rice. I'm just saying that he gives him a type of wide receiver to kind of back up Rice that they don't really have right now. He doesn't have the explosiveness but he is going to raise the floor on this receiver room and I think that's what's important. Then you look at the contract. We don't know what the amount that he signed for was but an educated guest says it's league minimum because he's still getting paid like $7 million from the Patriots and I'm guessing they have an offset. At this point I'm guessing they're only paying him league minimum for the year and he's going to make the balance from the Patriots and that's a great deal for Kansas City and you bring in a guy that can do what he used to do for the Chiefs and step in and if you have an injury it's another guy that knows what's going on. Yeah, I think that makes sense. Obviously going to take a little bit of time to get back into the flow of it and some things have changed but when you look at what he was able to produce I think it was more a function of the quarterbacking and the team that he was on in this last offense. He had for the Chiefs put up 12 yards per reception and three touchdowns on that season right during the regular season. Last year drops back down to nine just above his career lows in Pittsburgh of 8.6 and 8.6 in 20 and 21. So we've seen he's been able to jump back off of that once he gets into the Reed offense. I kind of expect to bounce back there too. I don't know if the volume is going to be there. Like seven targets for 78 catches for the Chiefs in 2022. I can't see that being a volume share that he's going to get but I do think he should be a 10 plus reception a 10 yard per reception guy. I think his his average depth of target is going to expand again and maybe that's the key to making him more productive. Well and that's possible. I would say that you look at this situation and depending on how healthy is and that's the thing we don't know right now we know he's able to play but can he be healthy enough to actually be able to get separation like he used to and be able to sit down in zones and be effective that way. So does he walk in and is the fourth best wide receiver on this roster? Skill wise he was better than Justin Watson and there's no real comparison there. So if he can step in and be that fourth wide receiver then you're in a situation where even when he's on the field he doesn't have to be the first or second target. He can still be the third or fourth target and he's going to go up against lesser competition and that is a win for this organization because that gives you somebody that you think can go in there and take advantage of those guys that aren't going to be a strong he's going to be going up against on a regular basis. The Dallas Cowboys made some big roster moves on Tuesday including signing a certain all-pro wide receiver. You are locked on Cowboys. Your daily Dallas Cowboys podcast. Landon and you and I we waited all off season for the Cowboys to have any type of movement any kind of roster movement to cover on the show and nothing crickets and then on the day that they need to start cutting some players they go ahead and sign CD land to one of the biggest non wide receiver or non quarterback contracts in NFL history. What are your thoughts on the sign? I mean deadlines make deals man it's like this was probably you know you and I were it's funny you and I were having a conversation about trying to plan and schedule things out for for this week and went to record and time of timing of everything and you and I both targeted that hey it's it's got to be in the next 24 to 48 hours right because this is right around the time when you can get a deal done get CD lamb in with while you have this extra week right and then the week after this you have game week right it's so you don't want him going through a kind of a ramp up period during game week so I think this was kind of the last day of getting a deal done in time for him to have you know full well not a full week but like four days basically to get in here kind of ramp up his conditioning I mean I'm sure he's in an incredible shape and he looks just the videos we see in his incredible shape but to get him to that next level to get him ready for a game that he's got a full four days and then you get him you know folded into the office and and start working for for Cleveland next the following week I have so many thoughts here the first is I'm happy that it's done I'm happy that it's done now so at least he gets what two full weeks of practice probably more like a week I think this is probably going to be a lot of conditioning and then he's ready to go for the gameplay and next week I'm glad it happened the money part of it it seemed like it was so obvious I mean we talked about it like the day Justin Jefferson signed Justin Jefferson got 35 million a year we felt like CD was going to get something close to that number I think on that show we predicted 34 million a year and that's exactly what it came out to so why was there such a I understand why CD wanted to wait but why was there such a pause from the Cowboys or hesitancy from the Cowboys to do this deal when I think everybody knew what the numbers were going to be. I think that I think that the length of the of the contract was still up in the air until probably you know the last week and I think that that's you know I think there's been a lot of talk about the reporting of of like you know the numbers and I think James Slater came out and kind of gave a summary of basically the negotiating and the numbers and everything but but I do think that the the years are ultimately where the final kind of hurdle to get over outside of all of obviously the I.U. situation still not being settled in that kind of throwing some turmoil into this but you know look I mean this was a situation with Dak the last contract right is that Dak wanted a shorter deal than the Joneses wanted to offer because they like and and it's it's either or right it's like they want to have the option to either have a lower guaranteed amount or they want to have that extra year on the deal in order to kind of move things around cap flexibility right that's just the way that the Joneses operate for good or for or bad right and and you know ultimately the problem is is that these these last few big name contracts these ages have been willing to haven't been willing to to kind of play ball at that well it's and it's not just the Cowboys it seems like across the league you're seeing a lot of these shorter deals because Justin Jefferson got a four year before your deal I believe AJ Brown got a three year extension so it's really like a four year deal I think a Monroe say Brown was the same jail in wattle was the same it seems like these agents are really pushing for hey we'll we'll settle for a lower amount of money right like I'm not really a lower amount 136 but you know in the past with the Cowboys would give out some of these big deals whether it was yeah to Zeke or Terence deal or even like Trayvon digs and they would try to get it to five or six years or the Tyran Smith deal like a decade ago which was a 10 year deal right like I just think those days are over yeah absolutely and I think that's the look and the Cowboys aren't the only team that kind of operate in this manner they may be the the headlining team that operates in this manner but but they're not the only team that has been operating this manner and unfortunately for all the teams that have been operating like this there clearly has been a concerted effort and I what I think it is is that you're seeing more kind of even even short term but still like decent size contract for 30 plus year old wide receivers and so what it is is that these guys are trying to get opportunities for third contracts opportunity that they never got that the guys in the generation beforehand never got even though they were still in their prime well into their 30s because they signed these six year extensions or five year extensions after serving a four or five year rookie contract so I think it's it's what it does is given the agents the thought hey not only can my guy get an extra payday but we can get an extra payday and out of these out of these careers if we can just shorten that initial first contract out of their rookie deals by a year or two and look at CD-LAM so he he played four years already in the NFL he's got the four year extension plus this year the fifth year option so Dallas has them under control for five more years right if he plays out this contract I think he'll be 29 when he hits free agency or would be eligible to hit free agency and if you just kind of per you know project forward let's say he continues to put up similar numbers and the wide receiver market continues to go up could he be looking at 45 million a year 47 million a year by the time he gets to that part of his contract it's possible I mean it's it's going to be interesting to see where the wide receiver market is at this point in four or five years right it feels like there is a crazy kind of hollowing out in a lot of ways of the wide receiver market it's like you have these top-end guys who are getting contracts that are just going up and up and up and up and up and if you're an elite elite guy you're going to get paid and you're going to get paid a lot of money but the but the middle class of the wide receiver core is kind of being hollowed out by the fact that all these talented wide receivers are coming out of college and they're ready to play in a way that that you know didn't necessarily happen 10 or 15 years ago so it is going to be interesting to see how that whole you know market continues to change especially as the game you know may or may not kind of continue down you know it was definitely a trend way towards passing passing passing I'm wondering if we aren't starting to see that sort of comeback around a little bit starting this year I wonder if that is going to have an effect on the wide receiver market in the next two three four years last couple things on CD lamb I'm really glad that they locked him out because for a million different reasons he's one of your best players he's been very durable knock on wood man I feel like I have to do this a lot after some of the latest jinxes I've had right yeah there you go thank you um and it seems like he does everything the right way and you want to reward those players right yeah when you draft a guy in the first round and he becomes everything you would hope and more that he would be right when the Cowboys drafted CD lamb at 17 I'm sure they thought he could be a pro bowl receiver did they think he could be an all pro receiver that put up the kind of numbers that we saw last year I don't know those are the types of players you want to reward it's a little frustrating that had to drag out this long it would have been better if he would have been in camp early in August but ultimately if he could stay healthy there's no lower body you know soft tissue injuries I think everybody's going to forget about this by the time we get to week two week three yeah I mean that's kind of what we've been saying for a while now right is that like and ultimately that's why you know this is a story for for you know the the national media and for like a bunch of folks out there but for Cowboys fans it's more just like when is this gonna get done we know it's gonna get done we know what the number is the skin yeah it's just like I'd leave like see them on the field and ultimately you know it got done when it had to get done which is you know kind of the way that these deals get done I just want to throw in this too I agree I think that CD not only deserves this but this is a guy that you know if you've been watching football or you know anything about high school recruiting or anything like that this is a guy who has been highly regarded for his entire career since high school early on in high school through college and has never not delivered at any level has always exceeded expectations despite expectations being high yeah those are the guys you give a lot of money because guess what south carolina in the twenty twenty four season you are locked on gamecocks your daily podcast on the south carolina gamecocks part of the locked on podcast network your team every day talk about south carolina and specifically the norissellers he's named the starting quarterback about a week ago what is the ceiling for la norissellers this year because there's some people that think that he could have you know a potentially like crazy first year as a starter I don't know if I necessarily see that but I feel like he's going to be a good starting quarterback in the league good starting quarterback in the league in consistency probably a little rollercoaster because with a talent like that it's kind of like nico at tennessee i think nico will have a better year because he's got a better supporting cast but with those guys that have the high high end potential you know you're going to get flashes that just make you go like whoa right um but it's also the inconsistency and decision making and whatnot so it's like it's like buying a lamborghini for a 16 year old and watching them drive it that's kind of like the the performance level of these elite quarterbacks so that's not a bad thing he just is a thing the second part is the way I choose to do this with teams that aren't loaded to the gills with five star talent is I'm going to predict inconsistency and if you prove me wrong you prove me wrong but what I'm not going to do is hype you up and get proven wrong by a true freshman playing inconsistent football that's going to be the expectation level and anything above and beyond that is I'm fully willing to tip my cap that I rarely wear it to the guy but I think you'll see a raw talent level that backs up everything folks inside South Carolina said they thought they had right I also think there'll be times where South Carolina maybe they even drop a game or maybe in a tight win the number one topic on all those message boards is this is life with a first-year starter quarterback yeah agreed also that cap thing I'm glad you brought that up it's been a a point of contention with some of the audience in our youtube about me not wearing a hat for most of the preseason but so it was a similar question I'm picking backing up that because I think you're spot on with with the seller saying I do also want to circle back at some point to what your first car was because I feel like we had some similar some similar stories there but no like the ceiling in the floor for South Carolina doesn't always feel like it's super far apart and in this year I've just been a huge proponent of the fact that I think that they can be a little bit like an Auburn in some ways in terms of they're at their best when like they're under the radar going into a season and that no one really outside of Columbia expects anything over four to five wins what do you think the the ceiling is for the team this year did you say eight wins or no no I said I think that people have brought up four to five wins I think seven is is like probably realistically where where it can be okay so that I wanted to make sure that I wasn't over shooting you so seven and five I mean it's just like a stud man if he if he really does exceed all expectations there's eight and four there but seven and five eight and four I would say a ceiling and then the basement's pretty much the same as it always is I mean and also the thing about basement we do it on our show all the time and I struggle like should we consider devastating injury as being part of worst case well of course it technically is but if you projected that I mean there you could go like two and ten if you don't have a backup quarterback so it's not realistic to be predicting that so a healthy Lenore Sellers all year the basement what would we say four and eight I think that's like the basement basement yeah I mean so that's where I'd go four and eight to eight and four let's go four and eight to eight and four okay um all right so the other part of this too is I think that one of the big proponents that no one's talking about about this team because everyone wants to talk about I think the two biggest story lines about this team going in the season where the fake beam or hot seat Lenore's who's going to be the quarterback and like the quarterback you know competition was going on all the fall camp a lot of people wanting to see if Nick Harper has come along like far enough to where he's going to make a difference or be a starter I think the thing that no one's talking enough about is the defense and where do you think this defense can be ranked in the SEC because I think we've seen you know like your buddy Cole Cube like I want to say your buddy not mine because we have some differences with the Yankees right now but um you know he thinks that the that something I might have one of the top five D lines in uh in the conference and I think that that might not be the strongest unit on that defense it's got to be a defense oriented team actually that's how they have to win um I know a lot of talk being around the quarterback position does not lead one to picture a team that way but that that look Oklahoma should be the same way by the way Oklahoma and South Carolina are both teams where a majority of the talk is O line quarterback over there same with South Carolina actually and so okay that's great and you hope you fill those buckets but South Carolina should be able to win a 16 to 13 game if the situation calls on it Oklahoma same way so um I do sometimes voluntarily sometimes regrettably talk to Kubelik and I can tell you it hasn't just been front facing it hasn't been a show he has talked my ear off about the kind of respect he has especially for how like underrated their defensive front is not necessarily like comparing to the top unit in the country right but everyone's talking about Ohio State no one's talking about South Carolina so I do agree and look the other the other part of that is like down at LSU right now you've got questions about Garrett Nussmeyer you also have questions about the defense though so the question I have is is he going to have to win like a couple of shootouts in the first month of the season well the South Carolina is what we think they are defensively at least that should buy your quarterback in your offense a little more runway to find their legs and not have to go hang 35 to win in the first few weeks of the season hopefully yeah I will say this last question I have about South Carolina we'll move on to a little bit the SEC and then obviously Twisters I am just very big on the fact that every year we go into the offseason or we're in the offseason going into a season we think we know what we know right and people across with the confirmation bias of what we think and blah blah you've already had to delete tweets that sucks it's terrible I've never seen you do that before I've seen you recommend it to me a lot even earlier today but no I think that like going into this year one of the things I keep looking at is the schedule everyone talks about how hard the schedules are South Carolina every single year you got Mizzou A&M Ole Miss and LSU all on this schedule but they're all games at home and I've done the deep dive all-off season about like what those teams look like on the road and for the most part it's pretty bad like Mizzou was good on the road in a neutral site last year but before that it was abysmal and then you know like Ole Miss has won win in a true road game in the last two years it gets a team that finished the winning record LSU eight and eleven over the last couple years of those four teams and real quick Mizzou in this game is going to be coming off a game against Oklahoma which I think that is the biggest one that you're gonna have circled so out of those four games what is the biggest opportunity and chance for South Carolina to win and pull an upset um the Ole Miss game stands out to me yeah because you mentioned Ole Miss on the road is funny Ole Miss at South Carolina is being totally overlooked Oklahoma at Ole Miss is being totally overlooked I got folks out there with a straight face trying to tell me Ole Miss has got a two-game season at LSU and against Georgia and it's like look I think they're good too but I mean this this vibe of just assuming wins for Ole Miss this is not Alabama Georgia so I don't just do that so think about what we were talking about with the defensive front think about the timing and rhythm think about disrupting flow up front for Ole Miss and the crowbar and the bicycle spokes that could be Bama's done it to Kiffin repeatedly that one year where they ran it up over Knoxford but like last year Ole Miss comes in their scores early stone the rest of the game well it's because you've got big bodies up front they can do that sort of thing Georgia they had no shot against Georgia same reason South Carolina's not the caliber of those teams South Carolina's got some players that would start for those teams right so if you could do that that would be a big deal I also think I'm pulling the schedule back up here I also think having a buy before A&M comes in there and it's it's what early November yeah I love that like I love I think that's going to be a good team by the way and you're getting I mean you're getting them not rested you're getting them off a game against LSU and you're rested so that's another one two very very foreseeable like conceivable spots to spring an upset and that's not even to mention the other games that you know point spread wise they'd have a better shot in yeah agreed um okay give me give me real quick and we'll just catch out after two questions and I appreciate you again man for for joining us here very short notice here's the other notice I or those you don't know tell them what the notice was tell them I'm sure what the notice was I we are recording this at 143 or 243 in the afternoon eastern time yep I texted paint at roughly 212 and he was like I could do it now and I was like yeah I'll do it now sorry um no I appreciate you joining us man and so here's the thing you've been talking about off season story lines for like there's no off season you you bring this up all the time but we've been talking about for the last nine months like again what we think we know and and all other stuff I'm tired of talking about texting Uncle Home in the SEC and and all the thing like you know Bama's got to replace Avon what's a storyline that we are not talking nearly enough about me SEC elko mike elko it takes a saying um elko walked in and got totally overshadowed by aboard Alabama uh Kaitlyn the board inherits a wonderful situation yeah I mean the thing that you always look at when a guy walks in is what is he inheriting so most coaches when they take over a program are taking over because the previous guy got fired right it's it's very rare that you're taking over for the greatest of all time and he stepped down in his prime and handed you the keys to a car with no problems it's like it's still running at peak efficiency well because that happened in Alabama folks don't realize it kind of happened over at Texas A&M as well but here's the here's the added bonus for mike elko he's not taking over for the greatest of all time he's taking over for jumbo fisher right so at Alabama you have baked in that you should compete for a title every year and if you don't win it people ask what what's wrong at Texas A&M the expectation level is not that but mike elko by my estimation our internal numbers here inherited the number seven roster in the country so he walks into a place with limitless resources right a place that doesn't have sky high expectation he's got a roster he can win with and a quarterback he can win with immediately and he brings all the structure and organizational aspects that that place lat from when he took over at duke it was immediate your one year to immediate there's nine wins right your one they were way better and it's because the right guy walks in and if you got decent pieces there the right guy can immediately upgrade it doesn't take two or three years they've got the right pieces they got enough of the right pieces there they will immediately be a really good football team this year and they play a really really big marquee game in week one and truthfully dude i think half the country doesn't even know elko got that job they will learn oh the a and m's the a and m's coach's name's what elko oh the oh the dude from dew wanted to be cleansing last year yeah that oh uh look he's up on Notre Dame in the fourth quarter right wow that flips index finger let me flip through my magazine let me learn about him that right america's indoctrination indoctrination to mike elko this year it's good i tell you what's weird about that game two men specifically i was talking to Jim Dunaway about this last night on the show and and he brought this up and it's like when you look at national brands like like bammo high estate Notre Dame but especially Notre Dame that line opened at one it's up to two and a half and you know that public money is going to be all over Notre Dame so i wonder what the actual line um is probably looking like it like because i think that they probably had that baked in a little bit too you've heard us talk a lot about fandell america's number one sports book well we have something a amazon fire tv channels app part of the locked on podcast network your team every day decisions decisions wait a minute are you still looking for cars on carvana yeah decisions decisions when i use carvana i found the exact car i was looking for in minutes bought it on the spot electric or full diesel decision come on you've been at it for weeks just buy it already you're right crossover it is decisions decided whether you know exactly what you want or like to take your time buy your car the convenient way with carvana the burning question is how close of a deal is this from being announced well as we sit here uh monday night um i think the latest step was uh big 12 presidents getting a similar uh presentation that the athletic directors did about a week and a half ago um uh it kind of a presentation of maybe uh ukhan's value what they would bring uh particulars on the proposal uh that has been negotiated already um you know it's been many months of uh negotiations between the big 12 uh i would say that uh conference officials um and uh in ukhan administrators um for a few months it's gotten to the level last couple weeks of that uh in-person presentation happened um we can have go to ad's and like i said the president's got uh something similar uh i think all monday so now the next step uh you would think is uh possibility for a vote of some sort um you know the big 12 would need 12 of uh the 16 members a super majority uh for any expansion and um you know that that hasn't happened yet yeah there wasn't a vote there wasn't expected to be a vote on uh on monday um but you would think uh at some point this courtship will uh which is now many months old uh will end in either a vote for ukhan to enter the league or no vote called at all which would tell you they don't have the votes to have ukhan interleague let me ask you a question on the vote so it so because i mean i if anyone is a political science major you know when they're voting on laws you know sometimes they hammer it out all night until they figure it out or there's deadlines is there really a deadline with this is there you do you think that there's some members of the big 12 that are going to try to hold out because they're waiting to see what happens with the ACC and there's some faction that want ukhan badly and in kind of is there any way to kind of meet in the middle is is that kind of what we're looking at right now you know i don't i don't know if there's a specific deadline placed on anybody i'm guessing that ukhan would would want to know as soon as possible you know one way or the other um i'm guessing that big 12 administrators would want to either um after because it's been so many months get this over with right um either one way or the other uh but i don't know if there's any set deadline um you know i i think that uh when you when you look at you mention the ACC and that is the uncertainty around the ACC and the uncertainty around uh future realignment conference realignment is something that i think is driving many big 12 administrators to to believe that this is not necessarily the right time to to add add membership i think that is one thing you uncertainty is probably working a not in favor of this happening um you know i think i think there's um a lot of folks that just feel like there's so much um murkiness out there like you know that's kind of weight um so to speak but i don't yeah i don't think there's any deadline um yeah i i would guess you would think in the next couple weeks something would have to be decided one way or the other either either you take a vote and in support of it or you put conversations off and delay it many more months yeah for sure i think that's i think that's kind of the million dollar question i think for me uh my source was talking about this potentially being imminent um the the story broke yours and others uh so we felt kind of indicated in that respect uh but as far as i'm sure and i'm sure you get this too knowing something is knowing a story is about to break and chasing down the answers that are about to happen are two different animals so um you know we're gonna talk about the pros and cons of eukon and the big 12 the pros and the cons for both eukon and the big 12 coming up after this all right we're back on lockdown eukon rostelinger yahoo sports uh national college football writer so you've even talking about this for a long period of time my my question to you is what are the pros won't be the pros immediately for the big 12 if any like i'm curious from your side um well yeah from the big 12 side i think eukon's men's and women's basketball brand is is obviously huge i i i think you would be absorbing or adding the arguably the best you know in the last 20 years that the best basketball brand and in college hoops especially when you combine the two men and women i think overall just the brand so there's that and that is that is important i think it's important to bring your mark the big 12 commissioner because i think he does want to um separate the next tv deal i think he wants to separate football and men's basketball and do two separate tv deals uh which we've seen before but it's not often done and i think adding eukon would certainly add plenty of value to the basketball portion and make it worth it maybe splitting the two um so there's there's that uh part of it um you know uh people talk about the getting in the northeast quadrant um the uh you know new yorkish area yeah you might you might grow grow the brand of the big 12 up there that there's a a positive or a thought um as well so those are i would guess those are the biggest positive but but the basketball brand is is probably far in a way that why you would do this what about the thoughts of football thresholds that's something that i think hasn't really been leaked um i know there's been a few things like attendance uh different investments that the that the athletic department would have to make and the organization would have to make uh on the eukon side what does that look like if there's a delay if this all happens and there's a delay to 2031 what what are the football thresholds that eukon can can look to try to kind of create or or or get to well i think it's um you know it's it's all about probably uh spending um it really goes back to to spending uh a budget and how much you've spent and where uh where your spending ranks among the others in the in the league i believe there will be a threshold of you you have to start spending x amount um on football uh in order to that that would be like kind of the threshold um you know it's different though because first of all i mean that that's under the current proposal you know i think is like i don't remember what the the terms are exactly but it's it's somewhere in like the mid bottom third or something of the league they have to get to resource wise investment in football uh and it's probably based on a percentage maybe of their other budget uh you know because obviously the budgets are so different distribution so different um so i don't know the particulars exactly around that but it'll be mainly based around how much you you're investing how much you're spending on on football and you know a lot of leagues with the house settlement the revenue sharing coming or are discussing uh putting floors uh what they call floors on spending per sport so you have to spend x amount at least on this sport in order to uh keep continue operating in sanctioning it in the in the conference and that would be something i'm sure that would happen with um within the big 12 or in in something new con would have to do is meet that floor let me ask you a question maybe no one's asked you if you're a ucon do you do this um yeah that's uh you know everybody is um everybody's chasing the dollars uh these days right and there's there's look there's more money um in the big 12 in the future the big 12 just like there's more money and really any power for conference because of the the uh revenue generating giant of of football and uh you don't have that obviously in the big east and you don't have that in the big east distribution money uh you don't have that with the tv money um and so everybody's driving and chasing more money especially now with the the fact that you have to share that money um with athletes to be competitive uh probably in recruiting in the field a competitive team so i i do understand it from the point of um wanting to financially uh improve your position and i'm sure that's a big reason uh that you would you would do it but you know there's another reason here too and that's there's a lot of big basketball brands in the in the big 12 i mean it's arguably the strongest basketball league in the country right up there with ACC and Big East um and you know look at the Kansas and Houston and and you can see that uh they would you know even you know of course Arizona um you could see that um Baylor i mean go on right you know they have a lot of historically successful uh programs in those emerging as well so there's that there's that too is to join a basketball league that's just as good if not better really um than the one you're in yeah and i think i think i mean this isn't a question i think this is mostly from the ucon side i can say that our fans are torn clearly and it's uh it's a tough pill to swallow coming off of a back-to-back national championship where we're kind of picking our you know picking our ball and going to play in another conference i think that's i think that's what it really boils down to is i think people see the immediate success so there's a question behind this it's try to explain it to a wouldn't say irrational but an emotional ucon fan that's like i don't want to leave the Big East i've never i've never been a football fan our football team has been up and down we had we had a great run in the Big East we were in a Fiesta Bowl in 2010 so it's been done before i'll use that in quotes um but you know long term why does this make sense other than money other than money other than money what does this make sense well i mean long term uh in a world where you're sharing revenue with with athletes in so much um is uh is being driven by by football um you you need to position yourself um you know in in a conference in one of the four four conferences that generate and make the football money um that's if you can just position yourself in there it probably would help in whatever is coming next uh because there's going to be something coming next um you know the revenue share will not stop at this house settlement revenue share um there will be if there's not some major other realignment conference realignment on a national level where you have the football programs grouped together or something like that or football gets split out or you hear the talk of the super league stuff athlete employment to collect a bargaining like there's going to be something next and the schools that are involved and that's something um it's going to be in order to determine who makes kind of that cut so to speak it is going to be driven by football and it's going to be driven by money and and so i think um you talk to any administrator and they will tell you that if you are in if you are not in those top four leagues and you have a chance to get in those top four leagues you do it game time makes get into the ballpark even faster and easier prices on the game time obviously trying to control the narrative still it this is the pettiest thing i've seen this governing body do and they've done a lot of petty ridiculous things to other teams but like they end even to michigan with the whole burger gate of it all lots of petty lots of just you know animus all of that kind of stuff uh but i think it's uh i i think it's funny the timing like that this clear like we need to get out of the documentary especially given that you know they they know that they are they of themselves are going to be on camera so i'm curious to to hear if they say anything in the aftermath about all of this but anyway there was a there's a lot of rumors out there coming from the usual suspects uh they're on social media the ones with the big reaches that love to just spout nonsense you know who i'm talking about multiple uh different fan bases out there that actually the reason why there wasn't a leak this time is because the information in there is so much worse than the draft that's not how it works the draft is here is what we have the actual noa is we're gonna we're gonna whittle some of this down it's not now just three weeks later we found some explosive new details that we were able to prove uh-uh sorry that's just not how it works love your zeal very cool it's very wrong but it's very cool um so uh nothing new there's a you know some say uh that there's still a lot of the same stuff if not pretty much all of the same stuff it doesn't sound like there's any additions i think uh when it comes to the sharon more and the text i think that's the silliest thing because they're not charging sharon more for conspiring with conner to engage in this elaborate scheme and fast network and all of this stuff no they're not doing what they're doing there is like you deleted your text you gave them to us and we couldn't find anything it but the fact that you deleted them like how backwards is that like okay like he learns that there's an investigation going on through the media reacts uh harshly spontaneously to delete his text messages which i've been assured have nothing in them otherwise you would know what they did because it would be like the deleted some text inhibiting the investigation because there was actually a crucial information within said text messages that would be like there would be a level one number one number two it would just be it would be the headline of the story no instead it's he deleted the text and then he gave it to him and it it's it's just absolutely absurd on its face uh so uh i think one of the fun parts that came out of this though was uh conner stallings as lawyers uh brad beckworth and uh nathan hall with the statement provided the athletic this investigation has been a witch hunt from day one intended to besmirch michigan and coach jim harbaugh conner is a scapegoat in the nc double a's ongoing quest to show that it has purpose in today's sports world that away says conner's friends and family sent him film from the games that they uh sorry looking at the text messages message there games they attended with tickets conner purchased but there is no rule against that lawyers went on to say that only scouting that took place in this case happened on michigan's campus from behind conner's computer so here here's where we get with all of this the the nc double a bylaw 1161 it prohibits in-person scouting uh stallions as lawyers are uh they're they're contending that there was no in-person scouting by the staff members that hey there there was video taken maybe maybe not uh and uh if that was the case like it got sent to conner and like he scouted that way that therefore he was not in person and so to me that's a very letter of the law argument the problem as i've said before is that the nc double a's judge jury and executioner so they can do whatever they want with their own bylaws interpret them however they want i don't know if it ended up going to a federal court not many of you have asked me in the aftermath of this being released yesterday would conner stallions fight this it is my belief that yes 100 percent he's going to they would they would not just let the nc double a like you know no more college football ever no more college football for five years and him be like oh all right well i guess i'll go do something else no i don't think that they're just going to let that let that go um and it would be interesting to see how the uh the legal system would interpret these things so um i just think it's really ridiculous timing it's uh to be expected given what the nc double a's done it just shows you the pettiness of them because it in like we didn't see the no a from uh from burger gate i don't believe until like let's let let me look this up i want to i want to make sure i'm not speaking out of both sides here so the n0 way for burger gate i mean i guess it did still come pretty fast because we're talking uh we're talking back at uh the turn of the month into august and that was that all took place mostly like the investigating back in like 2020 and all of this and um and they uh we find out at the beginning of the 2022 season 2023 2023 yes that they were investigating this so we're talking in january was when it was when we learned this right after the college football playoff and uh we get an n0 way a year and a half later and then they start investigating this whole kind of stallions of it all in the fall of last year and somehow this is a much more complex situation and yet this investigation time-wise has been significantly truncated i think that's very interesting especially considering another side is going to be spoken about now that is the thing that i think that i want you to be aware of in this documentary now i do find it to be very balanced in its storytelling but we had only really heard one side of the story except run shows like this except for on sites like the wolverine or mason blue review on rich isin show it wasn't major national media outlets that were pushing back on this michigan wasn't pushing back on this the nc double a's narrative has been able to go mostly unchecked up into this point save for partisan hacks like myself so uh i think that it's uh interesting the timing because i think without this documentary we're maybe getting this a little bit further down the pike than we actually are but anyway i hope you all wake up at three a.m or stay up till three a.m can be like me and try to go to bed around three a.m. yesterday only to get woken up by a dog that wanted to go outside and play for some reason at five thirty in the morning yes that's me complaining at the end need some five-hour energy for sure a prime members you can listen to this locked on
