Now, what is fluff or nutter? Well, it was created in Somerville, Massachusetts around 1917. Basically, whip marshmallows. Now, instead of putting jelly on your peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, yeah, they use peanut butter and fluff or nutter. Now, I guess you don't have to have grown up back east to be a new Englander. You know, try some fluff or nutter today. Give it a shot. Who knows? Maybe it'll be a fluff or nutter area. All right, let's see it happen in entertainment on October the 8th. Let's back to 1987. Number one album was Bad by Michael Jackson. All right, what happened on October the 8th? It's today in 1871. It was a really bad day for fires in the United States. In northeastern Wisconsin, they had the deadliest fire in US history. It's called the Pestigo Fire. A small fire was set to clear some land for railroad construction. The area had been going through a drought all summer. Then a front came through and that wind just whipped that small fire into a firestorm. Pestigo and 12 towns that surrounded it all burnt to the ground. The fire burnt 1,875 square miles. That's bigger than the state of Rhode Island. Now they know for a fact that between 1,500 and 2,500 people died, but they don't know for sure exactly how many though, because all the records saying who was living in the area at that time, yeah, they all burnt up in the fire. Now you would think that the deadliest fire in the United States history would be a lot more popular. Well, no, see that same day, the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It burned 3 1/2 square miles of Chicago to the ground. 300 people died, 300,000 people were left homeless. 17,450 buildings burnt to the ground. Now that's a lot closer to the population, a lot more media, so you hear a lot more about that than up in Wisconsin. Now the initial story was that a cow kicked over a land and it misses a Larry's barn. Yeah, that was just made up. It was a reporter wrote that. It was pretty, yep, fake news. No one knows what started that damn thing. 1906, over in London, England, Carl Nestler, he invented the first machine that was able to put waves and curls in women's hair. He demonstrated it today and the women, they wore a dozen brass curlers. Each curler weighed two pounds. Then they had to sit there for six hours. World War I in 1918, United States soldier private Alvin York, he became a legend. York and his fellow soldiers, they were behind enemy lines when the German machine got opened, fired on him. Immediately six US soldiers were killed. All the rest of the people, the soldiers, they dove for cover and started to care for the wounded. York, he single handedly charged that machine gun, killed 25 German soldiers and six more charged him with bayonets when they thought he was out of ammo. He just pulled out his pistol and took those six out. Now the German officers in charge, he ran out of ammo shooting at York, so he just surrendered himself and all his men. So then York, he just marched that 132 German prisoners back to the American lines. Private Alvin York was now a war here at Sergeant York. 1945, Piercy Spencer, he patented the microwave oven. Yeah, with six feet tall, weighed 750 pounds and cost five grand. Not a lot in college dormers probably. 1962, North Korea, they reported a 100% election turnout. What's miraculous about that though, is the entire 100% all voted for the same guy. 1978 in Australia, Ken Warby, he got his jetboat up to 317.59 miles an hour. That's still the fastest, anyone's gone on water. Since then, 13 people have tried to break that record, seven of them died, no one's even actually gotten close. ♪ Go, go, go, go, go, go, go ♪ ♪ Go, go, go, go, go ♪ ♪ We gon' party like this shiver ♪ ♪ We gon' sit in the car like this shiver ♪ ♪ And you know we don't give up ♪ ♪ 'Cause that's your birthday ♪ - So, we wanna know who was born in October 8th.
