[MUSIC] They're loving life in Washington, Frankie Louvoo with the game ball Dan Quinn. Remember when Dan Quinn got the job. They felt like second choice, they wanted Ben Johnson, they wanted Mike McDonald. Is it really an inspiring hire? Are they really going to be any better? Cliff Kingsbury is the offense coordinator. Oh, God. Give me a break and five games in. And the culture thing. Jason Garrett was talking about that last night and there's a clip from one of the guys on the team and I can't remember who it is talking about having a great culture that he's been there and they never had a culture. They never had one. One way there. What a shock it was. Sam caused me. What a shock under Dan Snyder's ownership. They had no culture. I guess no culture is better than horrific culture. But regardless they have a good culture now and they're four and one. I don't know how they got beaten so badly week one by the Buccaneers when you see what they're doing now and they keep getting better and better and they just absolutely manhandled and mauled the Browns yesterday. No. No question. I mean really a dominant game that you go was really over at halftime. Let's be serious. They're definitely one of the greatest stories of the NFL season at this point. I mean you said it right. I mean Dan Quinn that's surprising. Their defense and all the one two year contracts and not necessarily some big splash names or whatever. They play well. They hustle to the culture point. Dan Quinn's been the head coach of the Falcons and Super Bowl team. He was the decordinator of a Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl team. They've seen the type of energy and the type of way you have to act on a day to day basis. So they got to go and they got some mojo going and I think between that and the culture and then you have a quarterback that's special like the stars online for everybody to start believing in the organization and they start to go wait no matter who we play no matter what the situation. Damn we got a chance. This guy's really good and you could see that everybody is believing in that stadium and on the football team. When you watch him run it looks like he's got a higher gear. When I talked to him yesterday I said do you have a higher gear? He said yes. I don't think he had to really turn it on full speed. I haven't seen one. The touchdown today on me Brown. It was great. The story that I kind of stumbled into last night with the FaceTime that we did that he was on the sideline after a run and he said to Cliff Kingsbury we got single coverage on the outside. Let's take him deep. He was like okay. That's awesome. And that's why people like Cliff Kingsbury too. Yeah I mean the best coaches listen to their players because you know there's always the discussion about like offense coordinator do you stand on the sideline do you go up to the booth. Well you know what if you're on the field you really know what's going on yeah I might see it better up at the booth but I don't see it any better than on the field and if somebody who's on the field comes and tells me something you factor that in and it empowers the players it makes the team better and it elevates Jayden Daniels. He is yes what Sean Watson was seven years ago that's why I thought yesterday's game is so compelling right and he what the way they're winning and the way he's playing and we were talking earlier about one seat if the commander's end up with a one seat in the NFC he's going to be in the conversation for MVP yeah right now he's in that conversation and it's not premature no he's in that discussion they are four in one yeah they are not far away from laying claim to the one seat in the NFC if they are the one seat in the NFC it's going to be him or whoever the quarterback of the one seat is in the AFC unless somebody goes crazy and sets the single season receiving record a single season rushing record or comes damn close to it like Adrian Peterson did in 2012 he's doing special things and he got to do one of those special things on a national stage on the Thursday night against a bangle so everybody got to see that and that kind of got the the firestorm brewing of whoa this guy's doing great stuff then he goes out to Arizona last week and just dominates the Arizona Cardinals a team that beat the 49ers yesterday and then it's oh at home the Browns they're desperate and they get it going it's a tough defense and he's just got all the answers he really does he's smart with the football he's accurate with the football he doesn't do dumb things as far as just chucking it up or throwing in the coverage you blitz them and you don't take the right angle he runs around the edge for 30 you blitz them and you play one on one he throws a bomb down the field and puts it right on the money on target they got everything going as far as the offense is concerned and yeah that was a bud will be they put on the Cleveland Browns yesterday it was literally over at halftime and because Cleveland's offense thinks and I know we'll talk about that too here in a second but the second half was a little bit just hey let's be conservative let's control the clock let's just kind of slowly put them you know put them to bed for the night and they did that but they didn't even have to put their foot on the gas pedal in the second half the good news this week is they make a very short road trip the bad news is they're facing the original Cleveland Browns franchise Miles Simmons always gets a different point out that truth the Baltimore Ravens the team that was the Browns that moved to Baltimore left the name behind the successors to the Cleveland Browns and we just spent a lot of time talking about the Ravens that all of a sudden yeah one o'clock Eastern right next week right that's one of the games of the week yeah I mean that that's going to be phenomenal I mean that really is and never would have thought we'd be talking about commanders Ravens week six is being the the game the showcase or show but you know back to your original point we're watching one guy go like this and go to superstardom and we're watching another guy who once was up there in superstardom and now he should be on the bench I mean period it's it's I don't even know what to say they're offense stinks he doesn't see the field that well he doesn't throw the ball that well he doesn't look as fast he makes no plays off schedule he watches the rush a lot he misses throws like this he turns the ball over he doesn't do any of the things that we just talked about and you just gave Jaden Daniels praise for for his football team he does none of that for Cleveland and the ownership and the front office are going to double down because they made a mistake so they're going to go we want to make sure we screw everybody in Cleveland over because we made the mistake and that's what it looks like right now and look here's the key the Browns have a lot of issues right now yeah are those issues something that flows from the fact that the guys on the field have no faith overall because they're stuck with a quarterback who isn't who he used to be and what do you do when a team has a lot of issues how do you shake a team up you change out the quarterback if he did not have that contract that will pay him another ninety two million dollars fully guaranteed beyond this year he would already be benched this is one of the Sean patents sayings and I'm sure he got it from Bill Parcells when you make a mistake and this is true in any walk of life in anything that you do folks apply this to your own lives when you've made a decision that is a mistake the worst thing you can do is allow your pride your ego and your vanity to force you to double down on your mistake to justify your mistake because then you make it worse and you're miserable along the way that's what the Browns are facing now are they a functional football team that will say you know what I don't care that we own ninety two million dollars we have to pay him we don't have to play him a fully guaranteed contract doesn't guarantee playing time and yet it looks bad and yeah we're gonna have a harder time putting a team out there because we're giving him so much money but we can either put him out there and give him all that money or put somebody else out there who's going to be better and give him all that money and that doesn't mean cut him because you still have to pay him Jason Garrett's got the right way it's a two way decision it's not a one way decision you sit him down you get a spark from somebody else try to salvage this season you still have to Sean Watson and maybe by next year he'll be better who knows who knows and if it goes south then so be it but at a certain point you gotta make decisions we have this all the time best interest of the team is it in the best interest of the Cleveland Browns to have to Sean Watson playing quarterback right now no it's in the best interest of those who would be said man what a dumb freaking decision you made to give him two hundred thirty million dollars fully guaranteed and give up all those draft picks look how dumb you are you're admitting it now good you're admitting it well you're making it worse by not admitting it because everybody already knows yeah yeah everybody knows agreed agreed no no now it does it looks stubborn it looks you know the politics of football look like they're getting involved everything there you feel bad and the average fan said to think folks I'm talking to you what's his name Paulie Podesta chief strategy officer of the Cleveland Browns I'm telling you something there's a small nucleus of people who know and understand why you're doing what you're doing to the average fan they think you guys have lost your minds the average fan doesn't understand that they're politically tied to the Sean Watson they just think they're they're sticking with this guy who's not any good anymore right right and yeah I you know you said it right hey it was an owner it was a front office decision they messed it up with Baker Mayfield and I feel bad for Kevin Stefanski because I think his hands are tied in the situation I don't think he has the power to even bench to Sean Watson you're right and J.C. Aaron said well this is what the coach should do yeah if the coach is allowed to do I don't think so I tried to bring him up last night on football night in America I said can he really do that I don't know I know because we know the analytics department is that has a big say in that team and then of course the owner has a say and he was a big part of why they got this all done so I don't know where it goes but either what I do think James Winston would help their team he would be better for their team give us part it would be good and spot on Watson let him sit on the sideline a little bit let him take a deep breath let him reconfigurate his life and and what's going on in the football field and see if he can calm down you know what he's thinking and seeing up up on the field and if he's got a problem with it guess what it's his problem yeah because it's deserved at this point let's have a listen to Kevin Stefanski and to Sean Watson from yesterday after the loss to the commanders yeah we're not changing quarterbacks we need to play better I need to coach better and that's really what it is got to continue to tell you what the defense give us you know at the end of the day you know so I'm rocking with whatever the culture decision is like I said we don't listen to the outside world regardless of what it is so you know that's all I can do is worry about what I can control we don't listen to the outside world sometimes you need to listen to the outside world sometimes you come off as delusional and out of touch if you don't listen to the outside world because you know why the outside world are the ones that buy the tickets the outside world are the ones that show up for the games or don't show up for the games the outside worlds are the ones who watch the games or just check out and say when does basketball season start yeah when does hockey we don't have a hockey team in Cleveland maybe we should have a hockey team let's go let's find some minor league hockey team let's go to pro wrestling let's go watch a movie we're done with this that's what happens and Stefanski's answer we're not changing quarterbacks yeah because he it's just the way that it comes out the organization isn't he's got no say no I don't know he's got no say no I he's got to be frustrated I really feel for him that way it's horrible their offense sucks I'm sorry there's no other way to say it and it starts with him I mean look what they did yesterday six play ten yard drive field gold whoop he do let's throw a parade six play 17 yard drive in the third quarter field gold after a turnover they still get Jerry Judy that was one of their bright moments of the day Watson did throw a ball that should have been a touchdown and Jerry Judy dropped it I mean they don't score a touchdown a part of drive together until the game is 34 to 6 and Washington has got backups in and the emotions of the game are over I mean that says it all the fact that you have to keep in your forty five million dollar quarterback at that point to go hey let's get some confidence going and something positive in the game that says it all so they need to trade every asset they can this year and stockpile draft picks because if they're going to be hamstrung by the Deshawn Watson contract for 2025 and 2026 and they will be they need cheap young talent to balance that out and that is the lifeblood of an NFL organization the draft picks the rookie weight scale the controlled salaries that's how you put a team around a veteran who's getting more money than he deserves whether you're going to be stubborn and play him or whether you're going to put him on the bench and you still have to pay him this is why anytime the issue of guaranteed contracts comes up folks if there was fully guaranteed contracts for everyone in the NFL you would never see a five year contract you wouldn't see a three year contract maybe three for the superstars because you need flexibility and it's not fair think about this it's not fair to the players on the Browns who actually will be playing well when you have ninety two million dollars that is tied up in a guy who isn't earning it right but they're stuck yeah they're stuck unless it was only four weeks ago it's amazing it seems like it flies by but it seems like forever it was four weeks ago the Deshawn Watson was sued again remember that yes right and the lawyer representing the new accuser Tony Busby who did all those other cases in Houston the alleged victim is going to cooperate with the NFL you know that's gone crickets that's got radio silent I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he settled that because he's got ninety two million riding on it if he gets suspended for that and he hadn't disclosed that when in writing to the Browns they could void the guarantees and we've heard nothing about it in more than three weeks so that's the only way out of this they're stuck with the ninety two million and they just need to at some point you have to ask yourself we're paying him ninety two million anyway it's some cost we were paying it anyway does that mean we put a guy out there who may not be our best option right now let's just see what James Winston can do yeah I agree I'm going to be that spark and he's a guy I have to I'm not saying that I agree with it morally or ethically but I accept that that's what football teams do he's got an injury Deshawn Watson's injured so you're not benching you hate to shine John you know if you're worried about appearances or your name your hamstrings hurt your knees hurt whatever and does and James Winston plays do whatever you have to do to get James Winston out there and see what he can do yeah I don't I don't I don't disagree there either way the team and the locker room they gotta all be looking at their side I go and is the organization you do the right thing and put the guy that gives us the best chance to win the game on the field or are we going to worry about all the other BS we talked about we'll see where they go I think they're going to go another week with all the BS we talked about and Stefanski's hands will be tied and they'll play Deshawn Watson one more game and we'll see where that goes dysfunction within any sports organization or really any organization starts at the top and it trickles down and it's the decisions made the policies implemented and the recommendation is given because the thing is the people who work for the folks in charge are always looking for the cues and they want to do the thing that makes the person in charge happy so if the person at the very top is making bad decisions it all flows downhill and that's what's been going on for the Browns ever since I'm sorry Jimmy I'm sorry it's a truth and think about how much better the Browns would be if they hadn't done that Watson deal if they had kept the draft picks and kept the money with that team that we saw last year that you said had a Super Bowl gleam to them yeah if they had those picks coming into their own this year and money that they could have spent on other free agents so you know we all find ourselves in situations where we can feel a little bit nervous sometimes from me standing in a studio the lights get a little hot the anxiety runs a little high as I wonder whether or not the words are going to that and eco Collins gets injured hamstring on the long touchdown doesn't play again that day bills have a chance to get back into it they almost did but my god Josh Allen one of the pft writer said it was the first time since 1992 stand gill ball where a guy through 30 or more passes and completed fewer than 10 hey that that is uh Texans won great job that is the stat of the game right right there Josh Allen is arguably the greatest thrower in football he yes can be a little reckless with decisions at times i know that but damn he's actually got great control of the ball and he's very accurate that right there speaks to a way bigger problem with their football team and all the problems we always talk about with them this is it it's gotten back i don't believe in the bills i think they're a fugazi i think they're well coached but it goes back to it's still Josh Allen and i don't know what else they got on offense they got a good old line i don't know if there's anybody you can depend on in the past game to be a real threat they got no guy that really scares you or separates you their defense i feel the same way and Don Miller's not playing right now anyways and he's certainly not the star he once was uh the the bills kind of beat up on the poor early on in the year i think it's fair to say that okay beat Arizona we know they know how to play Miami Jacksonville struggling right but then it gets to hey a different class of football team whoa Baltimore our office doesn't look good whoa Houston whoa our office doesn't look good i know they scored 20 points but as we unpack that it won't be an impressive 20 as we talk about it so yeah i'm worried about them big picture with all the same crap we always talk about with Buffalo the last few years well i was calling the magenta tower last year and they finally got it together there was that hit piece from Tyler Dunns go along td.com that really galvanized the team i had Russell Douglas tell me that during the season Josh Allen told us that at the Super Bowl they're gonna need some organic natural thing to pull them together and get them out of this and should they be in the Devontae Adams conversation yeah i think they should be in it especially if he's going to the jets potentially i i keep it from the jets and you get him for yourself and you need him you need him if you can get him they definitely need and they got that second round pick floating around that they got first of all on digs they don't have anybody on their offense that makes you think or change your game plan at all they're offensive lines better Joe Brady the offensive coordinators made them tougher and we know James Cook is pretty good the tight ends are all solid concade is showing that he's real good definitely i get it right but there's no receiver that you look out on the edge and go oh wow we got a double team hammer do that there's nobody on the defense you look at to go oh wow we got to change our game plan because of them we don't you know it's it's gonna be the same old story and even with Devontae Adams i just don't know if there's enough there like something might galvanize them but what galvanize them to just get in the playoffs again they're they're missing upper crust top quality football player they were the two seed last year i get it right i understand they had a chance to beat the chiefs yes yeah but they really got dominated by the chiefs i mean the chiefs controlled the football game i i get that it was a down year for the chiefs i mean it wasn't even a special year they got hot right there it was yeah the AFC burrow got heard some things fell the right way to where they got to be the two seed i get that but still even being the two seed last year how did they get there i mean josh allen went crazy the last eight games of the year i mean that that's what it basically come in and offensive coordinator change after that embarrassing monday night to the guys on the field for a field goal attempt right and and it again it was the thing and it happened naturally you can't contrive it it was the hit piece on shawm McDermott that brought everyone together yeah it did uh but but you know you look at and you break down yesterday and we'll talk about the Texans too but they have three you know three drives or three drives in the second half one of them was a big pass a big run and an unnecessary roughness penalty that that was the whole drive that's how they got down there and they score it the next one was got the ball in good field position it's fourth and five we just throw a hitch route out to the left to get the first down and keon colman made somebody miss and ran for a touchdown but i don't get those that stuff doesn't give me confidence to go oh this is a well-functioning you can't stop this machine so far if you really go back and watch the bills on offense throughout the year it's not as much as surgical destroying as you think the Jacksonville game yes but the games other than that were a little bit of like oh the demons got to turn over josh allen made a big play right oh they did this josh allen scrambled made a big play boom oh now the other teams down and that's how they kind of started out three and oh but i don't know if that's sustainable like we talked about with some other teams to play the upper top quality football teams you can't win that way whether it's a mari coop or devante Adam something they need to be low yeah i i think so receive 100 and they can't and it's just like it's the same idea as cleveland don't be stubborn don't be stubborn oh we spent all the off-season talking about how we don't need a number one receiver so what you got a chance to go get one go get one you can talk your way into whatever reality you have to make you feel good about it right but if you can change your reality for the better forget about all the stuff you said and go do what makes your team better definitely definitely and you know they're gonna fight i think they are well coached on the defensive side of the ball mcderman always has good game plans they certainly benefited to your point with niko collins being out of the game that took a lot of pressure off them right they did make a few plays on defense but again too against the quality teams c_j_ sprout hey tarell bernard he made a great interception when they were driving on the fridge red zone there and kind of controlling the game you thought oh they're gonna put the bills in a tough spot right c_j_ sprout thumbles with a guy just sticking his hand out when they're backed up that gives him the short field field goal to tie the game 20 to 20 again i the plays they're great i get that but that's not the type of things where i go oh that team looks dominant they're really doing some things that the other team has real issues with and all of that um you know they're fighting they're good i get that they're a playoff caliber football team but still miss things that make me ever saying they have any chance of being a super bowl caliber football team and let me address one thing that happened in the fourth quarter of last night's game yesterday afternoons game between the bills and the Texans because it was a strange moment and we have these happen from time to time where player goes down player either gets hit in the head or head hits the turf yeah right player is gone for a little while player comes back like nothing happened which is fine there's a process in place to clear players who possibly have suffered a head injury and that process did get activated here and for good reason we see him hit the ground we see the aftermath of it they're not checking his ankle they're not checking his leg they're not checking anything other than are you okay yeah and we've watched enough football that that sends up the red flag and it did because as allen said after the game he rolled his ankle on the hit while he was in the blue medical tent he was told that they need to check him for a concussion and they did and they cleared him and that's fine they have an apparatus for checking and clearing guys in real time now there've been other instances in the past that we look at and this is where medical science and common sense sometimes aren't necessarily the same yeah okay and he missed one play he missed one offensive play he missed like five total plays he missed a punt he missed four Texans plays and he missed one more play and rushed out onto the field two minutes and 30 seconds of game time six minutes and six seconds of actual time Pete Demolitis clocked it last night from the moment his head hit the turf to the moment his foot touched the field six minutes and six seconds and again the NFL's created the apparatus the NFL had to create the apparatus because the commissioner and Demorris Smith got called to congress 15 years ago this month to say what the hell are you guys doing with head injuries and then all of a sudden we got the return to play and there's all these new procedures and that's good that's good sometimes outside pressure forces good change sure but it's hard not to look at a situation like that with our eyes our lying eyes and say hey man yeah I hear you to his back injury right JJ watch showing up with sunglasses at night like he's Corey Hart right before your time you know oh he's got a shit why's he got a shaded visor on light sensitivity is one of the primary symptoms of concussion he's not an advocate got any past all protocols all right he just has a dark visor on stop asking so how are we not I mean we're failing in our jobs if we don't express some degree of okay if that's what you say that's hey you're in charge of the process the rest of us are allowed to use our eyes yeah I'm not a doctor but I can use my eyes yeah no I think all of us were sitting there yesterday in the NBC viewing room we all saw the replay we all saw how hard he hit the foot hit the ground and the reaction the reaction eyes closed rolled over like oh man that was a tough one I'm seeing three Mick right it was I mean it was that kind of that kind of reaction certainly Josh Allen I know just like a lot of the great quarterback is tough he's stubborn and he probably right away it was like ah my ankle hurts right because that's what I would have done I don't give a damn I want to play soon that time and again so yes right now these and the good players are definitely smart enough in that moment to know wait don't let me grab my head and show anything like that eyes were told that story all the time grab his knee let me say something else at first so it doesn't become the concussion protocol and all that and players again yes they're wise enough to do that type of stuff and and look there has been a cultural shift but it hasn't completely eradicated the fact no talking about human beings who are incredibly competitive right that remember when Joe burrow said it when we were going through the two and stuff two years ago this is what we signed up for yeah and and it is what they signed up for I mean we're talking about clearing two to come back what's gonna happen he may get another concussion because you know what they happen you get hit in the head guardian caps wise guardian caps a hot topic because when you get hit in the head they're thinking it's gonna give you less right of an impact right and less of a potential for a brain injury and and again the pride it wasn't a spot check the cushion evaluation procedure was activated yep why was it activated because of what we saw and when it takes only six minutes and six seconds of real time for the guy to be back on the field and it only takes two minutes and 30 seconds of clock time and he misses only one offensive play it's going to make people and just look at social media it's going to make people say yeah I don't know about this yeah and to his back injury and TJ Watts 10 advisor and nothing to see here and and that's a problem I go back to which Super Bowl was it when Edelman Seahawks see yeah when they came back from the 10 point deficit it's like yeah he got yeah but yeah because here's the challenge the worst thing they can do in their mind is take a guy out for a full-blown in the locker room I remember Julian Bales telling me this years ago he's the one of the doctors it was involved in the whole epiphany of CTE the only way to do it right isn't in the blue medical tent the right way to do it is take them in to the locker room shoulder pads off have some Gatorade sit there and collect yourself and then let's check you out yeah but the worst thing they can do in their mind I believe is take a guy out for 15 minutes of real time a key player in a key moment of a game sure and then oh he's fine he was fine all along he never should have even been in here for these 15 minutes that's what they're trying to avoid yeah I hear you it's it's it's always gonna be a struggle it's gonna be a tough a tough thing everybody on that sideline and doctors included feel the pressure of that they feel Josh Outland's pressure they we they know he wants to get on the field they know how important he is to that team when he is on the field it's it's a delicate balance there certainly but yeah it definitely looked like he hit his head pretty hard yesterday and uh glad he got back in the game and mounted the comeback but yeah remember to us concussion from Christmas day two years ago nobody even knew he was he had an issue until he came in the next day and they're like yeah two is not right right so and that could happen today with Josh Allen or he may or he may have to do his best if he and again we're not saying it's right but we're we're we're also not morons well we are but we're not morons on this we know the culture and we know that Josh Allen is not going to want to miss next Monday night's game against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets definitely not all right let's take a break when we return here we go hey baby here we go I like that sweatshirt though I was that's pretty cool I actually paid for this you did pay for that one hey that's time you paid for something that clip probably should come with a warning because it could cause like seizures and photosensitivity you know you see that all the time now I mean my god you had to be ready for that oh my god oh my god especially got just just nine weeks removed from severe vertigo it may come back after watching that so that was you yesterday was a bad day if you pick games just it was a bad day because games that we were fairly confident about like 49ers Cardinals we'll talk about that coming up but I was fairly confident about the Seahawks yeah but one caveat I raised because we both picked the Giants to cover right the Giants had the extended Thursday to Sunday right and the Seahawks had the hard fought Monday night game on the road and that may have been a factor in this one yeah I yeah I do think it's a factor let alone the Seahawks right short week already a beat up football team and having to deal with that I think one of the things I said when we broke down the game last week I said I think the Giants can move the ball I just don't think they're gonna win the shootout or whatever well they won the shootout you know I know we're doing superlatives here and my superlatives is am I high am I high well I don't know well it could be according to what time of the day it is and I'm not right now okay I'm totally sober and ready to go but 420 they got 420 yards and they were in Seattle you know where it's a little grungy I was trying to tie it all together maybe not that funny okay good no it's not bad all right all right all right but yes the answer I just would assume if you asked me that question at any given time yes and I'm I know yeah but no I know my life I know it's offense right now you know what I'm not being accurate I know when you're high yeah when happy Chris shows up that's right I know happy right now I know I know there's a different what there's a different happy Chris that's right here I'm happy Chris no gee man but uh it was a great performance by their offense first off I think you got to understand how the game started the fact that they went right down the football field and in the most giant's dysfunctional way we can imagine fumble on a play that looks like we might have scored but there was no great angle to really see the ball fumble the Seahawks pick it up and return it 100 yards to retouch and so that's how the day started and you were like oh my gosh the Giants is it just going to be this kind of year where it's just we're always going to mess up and trip over our own feet and all that but after that man the gee man dominated this football game they controlled the football game there was a late surge by the Seahawks I know that and I couldn't even believe it that they were lining up to tie the game late in the football game that was amazing but Daniel Jones played great they ran the ball really well all right and you see Daniel Jones again it's not going to be wow it's not going to be Lamar Jackson or Holmes I get it but he is a pretty good decision maker intermediate throws he's a very good thrower of the football in those situations and we saw yesterday him throw the deep ball better which sometimes comes under scrutiny here in New York so that was good to see certainly he was good it was a good complete team effort their defense was very impressive throughout and the one thing I'll say about the Giants they do have a defensive front that can cause some problems for teams and to do without Malik neighbors exactly and it's concerning because he had that concussion the Thursday night of week four right missed the week five game usually we see guys get back for the next game and everyone's different but it's his first NFL concussion so it's something to pay attention to because it really wasn't I remember like watching yeah it wasn't that egregious I usually you see like Josh Allen falling down hitting his head on the ground you see the thing that makes you say now I know why the guy has a concussion all right uh I'm gonna go with and this is a nod to the fact that seven years ago are you moving to the next game or are you still going to the Giants okay okay I wasn't sure if you were about to come up with so what we said nothing about the Giants one thing too we talk about the Giants next we do have to give Isaiah Simmons incredible props for the block field and all these Seahawks fans are like that's illegal it's only illegal if he touches the guy you're allowed to jump over right and he did you're allowed to jump over and you're allowed to jump over right from when you're lined up on the line of scrimmage you can't take a running start and jump over he did everything right way you need to be a freak show to do what you did what Isaiah Simmons did there let me stand there over a guard who's a 320 pound human being and let me do a 40 inch vertical over him not touch him then hit the ground real quick and jump up again to block the field goal and then blow up the kicker right phenomenal play I mean it really was and uh what great job by Isaiah Simmons yeah so the Giants move to two and three and they will face the Bengals on Sunday night football okay so this is a nod to the fact that seven years ago when we first were doing this Sam Darnold was the hot quarterback coming into the college football season the presumptive number one overall pick even would end up being Baker Mayfield and you constantly called him Sam Darnell Darnell I'm going to call him Sam Darnell yes and here's why here's why this is why I will be cautiously optimistic that this 5 and 0 start is different from 26 okay three games now three times out of five yeah multi scored lead becomes a one score lead in the fourth quarter okay and when that happened right every game they Darnell settles it down right and leads him on a scoring right and in the first two games against the 49ers in the Packers he made it a two score game again what did you yesterday he made a three point game a six point game yeah forcing the Jets to have to try to score a touchdown and they couldn't they could have gotten the field goal yeah but they couldn't get the touchdown wait wait maybe so and the offense was I mean without Aaron Jones and I'm told he'll be fine for week seven against the Lions okay without Aaron Jones that offense wasn't the same wait are you telling me you believe I I I was I'm still I'm telling you right now I'm telling you right now I'll pick the news when you probably bump the Vikings down the spot and the power ragging that's worse oh that's right that's right I can't be happy that they're damn good this year now I gotta they gotta beat everybody bad better it is it is amazing that they did what they did to Aaron Rodgers who came into the game with a 57 to 8 touchdown interception ratio against them it's the best ratio since the merger at least against one team I didn't know that that's him yeah I didn't know that it first and through two interceptions in the first quarter including his sixth career pick six which ties him for 170th on the all-time list with Sam Darno yep so and that Van Ginkle I talked to Van Ginkle gosh the game you know it's funny when they they they don't want to share the secret sauce but they kind of let it out right this the film study and they they did the rope adobe yeah they they showed Blitz right and they broke their own tendency and he dropped back and Aaron and Aaron Rodgers threw it right to him right I mean listen Aaron Rodgers can still throw the ball you're seeing the highlights here I mean come on that's vintage Aaron Rodgers that's certainly special and all that but there's still problems here with the giant the the Jets overall and Aaron Rodgers on their attack you see the interception here here's the third interception and Mike it goes to your point predictability predictability everywhere on the Jets offense and it is because of Aaron Rodgers he doesn't want shifts he doesn't want motions how many times have you heard me make fun of Aaron Rodgers and his love for the slant route or the three-yard route right you you know me you hear me over the last few weeks the Broncos game the game yesterday I know what Aaron Rodgers is about to audible to and do in certain situations I've watched him so much throughout the year so you don't think Brian Flores who's sitting there in front of a film in front of the tv screen 20 hours a day watching it they weren't ready for that crap right that's that's the problem there's got to be more to that offense they can't just line up and go oh we think Aaron'll just get us in the right play right right there's an old saying of like you never blitz Peyton Manning you don't blitz Tom Brady they've seen it all Aaron Rodgers he's seen every defense ever throw that and he'll know it yeah but his answers to that all the defenses have seen all that basic bull crap before too and that's Aaron Rodgers bull crap that he wants to do that's the problem they don't bring any new angle that scares defenses away from doing what they normally do because they're go wait if we blitz we kind of know what he'll do if we don't blitz we kind of know what he'll do and and then his inability to hold the ball and throw the ball down the field and do any of that and them having to throw the ball that many times 50 not 54 times or 244 come on that's not sustainable with the Jets that was not good yesterday their defense played good enough to win it their offense stunk it up the other thing too that amazes me especially because we know how sensitive Aaron Rodgers is and we know how careful he is with his words like anytime somebody asks him a question you can see that he's running it through almost like when you get a attachment to an email and it has a virus scan like he has every question run through his own personal virus scan what's the trap in here what are they trying to get that's an interesting question like all these little things to like what are you trying to do to me here yeah and for somebody who is that sensitive to appearances man he had bad body language and demeanor he definitely don't know what cameras on them from the start for I mean and I'm surprised they turned that into a game and that's the biggest concern I have at the Vikings is special teams their special teams has screwed them multiple times this year it it allowed the Packers back into the game last week with the what the hell was that Jalen Naylor trying to feel yeah catch the balls of sun right and up and there was a roughing the kicker penalty yesterday and almost a disaster early where a guy got blocked into the to Brandon Powell but the ball hit the Jets player first their special teams needs to get ironed up except for their field goal kicker but Aaron Rodgers looked like a beaten man looked like he just was disinterested he looked like he didn't want to be there and I mean this is the product of years like 90 years between the two of us of watching games and you see the quarterback on the field you see the guy who's not bothered you see the guy who's always smiling like Jaden Daniels Dak Prescott the guy who's unaffected yeah right and then you see Aaron Rodgers who just looks like he's sour and dour and wants to go home yeah and that's what he looked like yesterday he looked old he and I mean that's okay I'm old but I look old he looked old he leaves an old 40 yeah I mean we're talking about that early yeah he just looks weathered and worn out right and not the guy that he was a few years ago I don't disagree you know and again you miss a year of football you get a year older right it's like you lose a little skills that you're like wait I could do this two years ago but I'm not quite as fast you have an injury on top of that right my big thing about him coming in the year was can Aaron Rodgers play the way Aaron Rodgers thinks he can play and my answer through five weeks is no he cannot they need to change the what they do on the offensive side of the ball they can't just empower him to go oh run it and just do whatever you do Aaron he's not the kind of guy that's just going to carry the team anymore he's not that type of talent at the age of 40 and he's not willing to like like the great quarterbacks who carry the team oh let me dodge a guy in the pocket pocket let me sit here a little longer and wait for a guy down the field to come open his is wait is the guy wide open if he's not let me throw it short real quick because I don't want to get hit I don't want anything to happen there you can't win the Super Bowl that way you might be able to get in the playoffs with this football team certainly because they're talented we know that but you're not going to beat the quality football teams in this game with that conservative passing approach that they had and it's got to change up to make some defenses think a little bit I mean it's it's either jam a ball five yards over the middle on a slant or some little stick route or it's throw a little swing route to Garrett Wilson over here or it's a one-on-one fade back shoulder it's the only three things they do on offense really and it's Aaron freaking Rogers who has a great arm and it's being wasted because he doesn't want to push the ball down the field can we block it up and let Garrett Wilson run down the field and run a deep out a deep comeback do something like that they're they're frustrating to watch and and a lot of it is because of Rogers and this is the offense he wants to run I'm a firm believer that for me personally yeah I'd rather be wrong in something I did than in something I didn't do right and so I respect the fact that Aaron Rogers decided when the writing was on the wall that it was done for him in green bay to not just walk away to try something different right there's nothing wrong with that this is an occasion to say I told you so but I think the fair assessment a year and a half in is probably should have just walked off into the sunset and I wonder how much of his darkness retreat fueled decision-making was I want to stick it to the Packers yeah right and if you remove that from the equation yeah what do you still be playing what do you still be playing yeah I hear you there I hear you there I do think the Packers situation a little fire on them I want to prove them wrong I'm going to show them do that and is that the right reasons I don't know we'll see where it goes it's still early on in the football season certainly oh yeah it can look it can change but you're not going to there's no ponce dillione out there no there's no fountain of youth he's going to stumble into this it's it's only going to get worse because what happened he came into the game with the sore knee they they added Adrian Martinez from the practice squad to have an extra quarterback around right because they're concerned they always do that spontaneously they hadn't done it all year and then he had that moment where he looked like he was messed up and he's got a low ankle spring right and they turn around and play on Monday night this becomes cumulative it's a lot of wear and tear for a guy who had four snaps of meaningful football from January of 2023 until less than a month ago he's played five games in less than a month yes this this is not it's not sustainable with what's going on as much as he's being hit and that's why I also say they got to readjust with what they want to do and how they want to play they do they're gonna he's getting beat up too much and like I said with the way he wants the offense run and the protections and the routes they run teams are going to be all over this stuff and he's going to put himself in harm's way and positions like this that are scary so I hope they can find some new wrinkles and some new ways to attack on the offensive side of the ball because him and the shotgun throwing it 54 times and it just dinking dunk in it ain't going to do anything as far as getting the Jets fans and that Jets organization where they want to go you know when it's all said and done and they got some work to do on that offense because their defense was the first defense that gave the Vikings offense a problem this year their defense is on a different level even than the Texans and even the 49ers the Jets defense is incredibly talented they really are but the offense has got to start showing up and helping them out a little bit should they pull the trigger on Devontae Adams oh I would say I mean I think it helps right now but I don't know if it helps them big picture wise and I do think there could be problems on the horizon I mean Garris Wilson spouted on the horizon yeah because that's what I said last week yeah you've got Garrett Wilson, Alan Zart and Mike Williams somebody's the odd man out it's either going to be Wilson or Williams because it ain't going to be BFF number two BFF one is coming through the door and Adams BFF two isn't going anywhere Garrett Wilson I think if you get Devontae Adams has a chance to just lose his shit yeah I'm sorry because he's gonna go what like what I'm your first round pick I'm your top 10 pick I mean I've been waiting for an offense and you to feature me and now we're gonna trade for this guy and all I do is run slants and flat routes and now you're gonna give Devontae Adams all the throws and I think you're you're asking for problems there and and of course you're mortgaging the future and according to what you might have to pay for out of the still right all right let's take a break when we return Kyler Murray helped the Cardinals deliver one of the biggest upsets of week five that's next on PFT life Kyler Murray brought pretty first pick versus last pick and the first pick got the win yesterday had a great run early oh my god shot out of a can they started the game on a 2.75 dollar drive right unbelievable yeah unbelievable he is he runs like a slot receiver I mean here it is there it is he threw a big pass to Trey McBride the tight end and they keep it on the edge he throws his hand up 40 yards down the field throws his hands up 40 yards from the end zone with three guys around him that's what's unbelievable yeah he knew he was gone and that's where he is special there's no doubt his acceleration I would there it is there with anybody in this board he gets the corner and the hand is up and there's and he knows you're not gonna catch me yeah pretty incredible really big game for them certainly a big game a game that I will say felt like they shouldn't have won a game where you felt like the 49ers outplayed them right 49ers moved the ball did some good things there but moments twice telling the division I know and I think in both games it's moments where wait we have a chance here to really put that team in a tough spot and control the game and maybe go up three scores and do all that and then they kind of find a way to mess that up and let the team hang around and all of a sudden they lose and that's what happened to the in the Rams game that's what happened in the Cardinals game and then here's the other big issue with the 49ers right now they can't score touchdowns in the red zone they're settling for field goals more than ever before that I can remember in San Francisco so then you're settling for field goals and then you lose your field goal kicker to a high ankle sprain and then they get down there and field goal range and have to go for it on a fourth and 24 on the 27 yard line because they can't do that a little bit bad luck there certainly but not capitalizing in the big moments the stomp teams out and kind of control games letting them hang around and we know how that works out in the NFL it's amazing to me how every team doesn't have another guy on the roster who they know can kick or they find a guy who might have a shade of ability and they spend the time developing him just in case because even though it's a small chance you're gonna lose that guy if you do you better have somebody else who can do it like a Justin Reed yeah I hear you have somebody else position guy there we go he can kick somebody who loves it somebody room exactly right they've got the Seahawks on a short week and Nick Bosa and others said we're glad because this gives us a chance to try to you know wipe the nasty taste out of our mouths they go to Seattle they got the Chiefs after that at home they got the Cowboys and they got a buy and when are they gonna get Christian McCaffrey back yeah the windows open for him to return he's not reportedly coming back this week they they could use him for Kansas City or Dallas and at the latest if they don't have him back after the buy then that's when you start wondering is he just not playing at all this it's concerning and you know like I said last night a little bit during our football night in America thing do they miss him of course they do but he adds a whole different element to their to their offense if you talk to a defensive coordinator who's preparing for the 49ers they will tell you if Christian McCaffrey is not playing it's a totally different call sheet because of all the things they can do with him in the passing game it changes how you have to approach them let alone the point we make where hey Jordan Mason's a really damn good back I mean he's showing he's a starting caliber running back but he's still that Christian McCaffrey and some of these runs he breaks out and you go oh that's a nice 20 yard run I go well McCaffrey is another gear that that goes 60 to the house right so there's been that there are beat up football team to a degree they're certainly in my opinion the best two and three football team in the league but red zone struggles in opportune turnovers just like we saw in this one it's 23 to 10 they got the ball to start the third quarter tip pass interception you know the Cardinals close the gap late in the game they drive right down the field toss sweep to Jordan Mason they're inside what the 15 yard line he fumbles lets the Cardinals have a chance to get back in the game and win it so not putting teams away like we saw and yeah that's where Hufunga being injured Javan Hargrave injured no Dre Greenlaw beat up people on the offense and McCaffrey all I've heard the 49ers right now and 0 and 2 in the division 0 and 3 in the conference that's not good for tie breakers as they scramble to try to get the postseason all right Packers Rams Packers back on the right track to get the win 24 19 at LA Rams are a team where you can't overlook them they're capable of beating you but more often than not you're going to find a way to do it and the Packers did they just fight they clawed the Rams I mean you never count MacVay and Stafford out they kind of once they figure out how they attack you they become a pain in the butt and they start to like surgically destroy you the problem is is just after they figure out how to attack you the other team goes wait this is what they're doing to us and then they don't have any more answers for you but man I mean they had the Packers on the ropes a little bit another team leading in the in the in the third quarter in the fumble by Kyron Williams really kind of changed the game around yeah we we actually have to take a breath oh I think we still have three more segments and jamming not two usually it's two way to go Packers will be right back so we can say we'll be right back we'll be right back we'll be right back three more wins for the rookie quarterback yesterday Chris I'll tell you this whole fact five weeks that's the second most since the merger and the record was 1987 when everyone was a rookie during the strike right so that's an aberration right right right listen it's impressive and I think it's something that we're going to continue to see all right we have to go back to break because we still have two segments to do well done we'll be right back we told you we'll be right back oh we had no Jaguars highlights last night on the extended edition of football night in America the fill the hour and a half we did and I've been accused of being responsible for it because they say I hate Jacksville. I love Jacksville. I love Jacksville. You talk crap about Jacksville all the time. That's not Jacksville. I've been to Jacksville multiple times. I love Jacksville. It's good to see them get off this night. They still got a lot of work to do two games now in London. They could win them both. They got the Bears and the Patriots going up. They definitely could. It was Trevor Lawrence was phenomenal. Yes. Of all the questions we had and problems he was on fire yesterday and tank big league. Frankly tank. He's the man right now. He is a good front raven Walker. We'll see if they can continue this little momentum. We'll wrap things up right after this. Saints and Chiefs tonight. I'm looking forward to this. I am too. You got the Saints. I do. I got the Chiefs. Yes you do. Yeah. You got them I think covering nonetheless. I got the Saints covering with the Chiefs. But I think the Saints are going to pose some problems for this Kansas City football. I thought the Saints were going to win it so I realized the game wasn't being played in New Orleans. It took me a few days last week to realize. I'm glad I figured it out. It's week five Monday night. All right. All right. This will be fun. Enjoy the game and we'll see everybody on Tuesday. Not tomorrow. We'll see him next Monday. Sasquatch. Sasquatch out. The five dollar meal deal at McDonald's means you get to pick between them a double or a chicken.
