How Imagineers came up with this classic design!

Hi everyone, the classic EPCOT logo. Five intertwined rings surrounding a design of spaceship Earth being gently embraced by a star. Just how did Imagineers come up with this classic icon? Seeing the EPCOT logo is something that can bring a whirlwind of emotions, from chills to excitement. The design has become known as the flower. Without any text at all, guests know exactly what park it's for when they see it. When Imagineers were cooking up ideas for what the logo would be before park opening, initial designs included the text EPCOT or EPCOT center, often stylized in a kind of word art. The overall goal among all of the designs was that it had to be appropriately futuristic. Designer Norm Inoue was the person who came up with something amazing for the logo. Five connected rings, representing information, technology, environment, education, and entertainment. The pillars that EPCOT was striving to achieve. His design initially had the five rings surrounding a central star, without spaceship Earth. Then, after some modifications, it became the EPCOT logo we know today. The five rings surrounding spaceship Earth showed unity among the park, and how it was the central icon among the other pavilions surrounding it. This is distinguished from the individual pavilion logos, which you'll find only consist of one ring in their designs. These pavilion logos were also designed by Inoue. He created hundreds of logos and different styles to get a sense of what Imagineers were looking for, ultimately landing on contemporary shapes and designs. Through the changes over the years in both the pavilions and the park as a whole, the logos withstand the test of time and continue with EPCOT's contemporary aesthetic. Disney legend Marty Sklar summarized the symbolism of the logo. The EPCOT Center logo symbolizes unity, fellowship, and harmony around the world. Five outer rings are linked to form the shape of a flower, a celebration of life. The heart of the logo is the Earth embraced by a star, symbolizing hope that with imagination, commitment, and dedication, we can create a better tomorrow. [Music]
