-This is AP News. I'm Rita Folle. -Oppenheimer is the best picture at the Oscars. It won seven awards in all. Christopher Nolan, best director. -Starting with the release of the film in July, the response from people around the world far exceeded anything that I'd imagine possible. And, you know, winning this recognition from my peers is just, I mean, the icing on the cake. -Best actor, Killian Murphy. How would he feel if he were known forever for Oppenheimer? -Very content. I mean, you know, you've got to move forward, but this has been a huge, huge moment for me. The movie is so special to me. -The most closely watched contest of the Academy Awards went to Emma Stone, who won best actress for her performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Some states in the Northeast are going to see more of those strong wins today. The AP's Julie Walker with the severe weather that hit another part of the nation over the weekend. -Emergency responders had to help people escape high waters from flooding in Charleston, South Carolina, Saturday after the National Weather Service reported record rain, senior meteorologist Brian Adams. -That record amount was 3.63 inches at the calendar day, and that beat the old record of 1.43 set in 1948. -He also says high wins were an issue as well, blowing out windows and ripping off roofing at at least three businesses. The Charleston Fire Department says it responded to at least a dozen incidents where vehicles were sinking. I'm Julie Walker. -In Britain now, where Kate, the Princess of Wales, is apologizing for what she calls confusion caused by her editing of a family photo released by the palace. Five major news agencies, including the Associated Press, withdrew the image over concerns about digital manipulation. In Switzerland, five skiers have been found dead along a high alpine ridge. This is AP News. Now to a tragedy in Missouri, the AP's Jackie Quinn. -A man in the St. Louis area who's charged with shooting and killing his mother says it was a mistake. According to the attorney for 25-year-old Jaylen Johnson, he hasn't stopped crying since the shooting at their home in Olivet, Missouri. The lawyer tells local media Johnson believed his mother was an intruder, as she tried to come in through a back door of the home at 7.30 in the morning, Thursday. Johnson called 911 right away, and his girlfriend tried to help 56-year-old Monica McNichols Johnson, but she died at the scene. Johnson, a former college football player, is charged with manslaughter and armed criminal action. The lawyer said he kept a gun because he had been previously robbed.
